Review Haiku - Cape Town Central

Keith M
The tuna tacos omg they were so good! Sushi is good too and I have yet to try the Chinese cuisine. But the tapas and atmosphere is great for date night or corporate functions. Very nice dark muted Japanese look and feel to the place. Definitely one of my favorites in Cape Town.

Visited this restaurant on a Saturday at 6.30pm. I did reserve a table but it was not busy at this time. Drinks: Ordered 2 espresso martinis and 2 Awara Elixir cocktails which were both tasty!! Food: Steamed dim sum - Chicken Siu mai and beef Xiao long Bao. These were okay where the beef Xiao long Bao did not have that oozing sauce that comes out when you bite into it. Fried Dim Sum - Prawn Avo Tempura with spicy mayonnaise. This was delicious! Be careful as it was piping hot! Mains: Thai Penang Rib eye and Rendang Duck with 2 bowls of steamed rice. Dessert: Cheese Cake and 2 scoops of ice cream (Mango and Vanilla with choc chips) Total price: around 1850 Rand where we paid 2100 with tip. Overall experience: staff were very attentive, great ambience where the lights did flicker at a certain time but staff came over to explain why it did that due to the generators and to save energy. Wasn’t too keen on the steam dim sum as much (probably cos I’m being biased) but would definitely visit again cos of the fantastic experience we had!

The most amazing evening with the most delicious food. The service is next level and the attention to detail from the staff is excellent!

Ate here for the first time and was blown away. We ordered sushi and sashimi which was good but the highlight was the mains. The crisoy fried broccoli on salad and crisoy fried veg was nothing like we had ever eaten before. It was AMAZING. Then came the delicious stir fried rice and delicious crispy spicy lamb with veg. The combo was so delicious that we ate ourselves into a stupor. Wow. We have eaten all over the world and very seldom get sooo impressed. Haiku, you have outdone yourself. 🙌🏽👏🏽👍🏽🙏

Delicious, delicious, delicious. If you visit be sure you have their signature dish, Peking Duck. It is worth every 5 star review. So much flavour in the sauces. This ia our second visit, we went back for the Cheesecake is the most fantastic one ever tried. Service was top notch.

Loved it. The quality of food was wonderful and fresh, every bite was tasty and well presented. Service was very good and attentive, we enjoyed the ambiance which is romantic and comfortable lighting. We ordered tapas style to try as much as we can and we’re were pleasantly surprised every time. Food kept coming and it was wonderful.

Our waiter "Washington" was just splendid. He could share ample information on meals, the ingredients and how it's prepared. The Hors d'oeuvres was also a unique experience, never quite experienced those flavours before. Great start to what followed - bbq duck springroll, Spicy Lamb Pot Sticker, Chilli Chicken (With schezwan peppercorns, hot.) So deliiiish

What a taste explosion. Beautifully presented food, unique taste. I loved every bit and the waitress was extremely knowledgeable.

Fantastic evening. I mean, to try fault, this gem of a restaurant would be impossible! Every time I go back, I have such great memories that keep me going back. Thank you to the staff from management, kitchen, and the amazing waitrons who bring joy to the table with such etiquette and love. #haiku .... 10/10 🌟 MUST HAVE: TUNA TACO 🌮 😋

What a fantastic experience. Arriving late after an underwhel experience in the Waterfront. We were accommodated without rush., super friendly and warm service. The atmosphere is outstanding, cozy, warm, jazzy and just an overall warm feeling. Fantastic food, sizzling hot with impressive cocktails. Our new little, hidden gem. You can feel the vibe, and every patron looked happy. Thanks guys 💖❤️

Excellent Asian food, in particular I’ve appreciated the Chicken Curry, very well prepared and tasty. I recommend to everyone who visit Cape Town to give this restaurant a try.

Great service, amazing food. I had the red curry fish, absolutely divine. Nice wine selection too. Edit: recently went to the reopened Haiku, service and quality of food is still excellent, but I preferred the old menu.

This place!!! Haiku is definitely my happy place.... their preparation of food is an art. It will literally transport your taste buds to a magical place. I personally prefer their tapas than mains because you get to try a range of different things and they portion sizes are still decent for tapas. The Tom yum soup is exquisite! So is their Lamb Xiu Jao (excuse the spelling) and the prawn toast! I've so really enjoyed the mushroom and lamb potstickers.... everyone needs to try this place at least once.

Interior was moody. Staff were helpful. Food was good and spicy. Was an overall good once off experience 👌

WOW🤩! This place has been making the best food for many years, I have been going here since 2007. It has always been brilliant. But recently I went and the food was just not as good as it always was. So Haiku if you see this we would just like to point this fact out to you! Maybe it was a once-off but we hope it won’t happen again👍! Here are some food items I recommend; Prawn Toast, Haku Noodles and try the lime Mojito! Thanks😁!!!

A great place too share amazing food. Each dish is authentic and full of flavour. When we ordered champagne and wine, none of our first choices on the menu were in stock, but it didn't turn out to be a huge problem. I suggest taking a bunch of friends and sharing a few dishes to make sure you get s taste of everything.

If I could give this place 10 stars - I absolutely would! Every single bite of food was sensational!! ✨ The service was excellent too. An absolute treat and love love LOVED the food. Highly recommend. ✨✨✨
Mercia Solomons
Beautiful place with an eclectic style. Food amazing. My standout was the Peking duck. Prawn toasts and tuna tacos. The tastes of each item was uniquely different and unexpected. The service was top notch. I wish I could have eaten more and tried more dishes. But I could eat only so much. I willl definitely come back to try more dishes. What an awesome experience. Thank you 😊

We came through the wooden door on Saturday night past, and it was absolutely amazing. Love the decor, loved the relaxed atmosphere. We didn't even get to the Wok section of the menu because frankly the dim sum sections are enough to go to whatever your idea of heaven. The foodies might have something more delicate to say but all we can utter is that it was delicious... delicious, mouth-watering-recallingly, delicious. Combined with stellar service provided by Washington, we left with a night we'll remember. You'll be seeing us again Haiku.

Got spoiled for Mothersday!!! Mom wanted asian food and that's what she got. BUT we got more than just asain food. We got best waiter - Talent. Mr Talent gave his suggestions for tbe best meals as we were new to this asian foodie thing. AND we loved it - cant wait to take our friends there. One of my favs. Tx Haiku Tapas for making our time so special.... see u soon
Lindsey Caine
Amazing Sushi, best I have ever had, lovely waiter. Definitely recommend.
Brian Louis
The standard of cuisine is kept at a high standard and dining is memorable especially upon a first visit. For a regular diner since the opening of the establishment the decor is tired and old and the entrance unimpressive. The food is still good but portions very sparse for the high price. It has lost its elegance and charm and subsided into the status of being just another Restuarant.
Erica Wicomb
The food was really amazing but the service was terrible. For such a high end establishment you would expect better service. We waited at least 10 min for someone to notice we had no menu’s, ordered drinks which came out piecemeal - had to ask 3 times for our sparking water. Asked for coffee was told soeey the barman makes that too so u going to wait a long time maybe just a bad night for them!

Delicious food. Service great. Well done. We loves this place

Top! One of the best asian food I ever had!

Asian food done right. Cannot wait to go back and eat more.

Best ever prawn toast and prawn popcorn... I go back for the same dishes once a month

One of my FAVOURITE restaurants in CT

I had a truly horrible experience at Haiku recently. We booked for dinner and were told that the restaurant was fully booked and that because of this, we would have our table for about an hour and half and would have to vacate the table thereafter. Only to find many empty tables during the full trajectory of our meal and after (long after the said hour and half!) We then apparently had the temerity to query the price of something on our bill. And were subjected to the joys of one Greg Randell, a person who is apparently part of 'management' but has zero ability to manage any sort of basic public relations interaction. He came over and proceeded from the outset to talk to us in a patronizing, rude manner. I mean, how dare we question prices in an establishment such as this?! At one point, I wanted to relay the disappointment at being told that we would need to leave early due to the fact that the restaurant was full only to find that it was empty. He point blank refused to listen to this 'additional' story. And here's the thing - if he had respectfully and politely given us the very same explanation about the matter we were querying, there would have been no issue. But to spend good money on a much longed for night out and to be treated in way that made us feel inferior, was both unnecessary and unacceptable. A big thank you to Oliver, who tried so hard to appease and to hear the narrative of what had been so deeply insulting.

Amazing! Not just good but a whole dining experience!

Best restaurant in Cape Town, if not South Africa!
Petrus Steyn
The best...

Cockroaches on ones dinner table ! ! and blaze when told about it ... exact reply from management "these things happen" health hazard and unhygienic is what it is ...

The whole experience was less that desirable or ideal. The waiter had no idea what was going on with the menu we had to explain certain things to him. They then had the audacity to tell us the above picture is rocket and not lettuce I mean WHAT????<br/><br/>They took one look at us and decided we are some blacks that have no idea about food and all plants are the same to us, this nuance continued when they presented a Korean steak that was so over cooked it would have been better to eat cardboard. <br/><br/>I highly urge anyone that is looking for good food and service not to go to this restaurant.
Amit Bhana
What a great place!<br/>Anniversary treat where we had prawn toast, delicious and ordered the spicy szechan chicken which was really spicy but good with some egg fried rice.<br/><br/>Dessert was the fried noodles with mango ice cream. Delicious.<br/><br/>All in all what a great place with great selection and great service. There is too much to choose from so we will definitely be back.
Amey Kaval
Yonela was one amazing server! He ensured we have the most authentic and delicious meal in Cape town. The food was amazing especially the 'Fish in black bean' and the ' lamb dumplings in chilly oil'. A must must must have in Cape town! 😁☺
Nic Primich
Food was great.. I mean everything.. from the calamari to the sizzling veg, boa and prawn toast.. looking forward to going again and trying a few more dishes 🙌🏻
Rita Matias
Very friendly staff, best dim sum I have ever had. Beautiful decoration mixed with good music and warm atmosphere. Loved it and hope to get back soon!

What a wonderful restaurant! The ambience is dark and sensual hi lighting the food beautifully. The service is amazing and the food expertly crafted. The food is well priced and aesthetically pleasing. A taste sensation, well worth it!

We usually make an effort to visit Haiku to get our Asian fix when visiting Cape Town. Slightly disappointing on this occasion with some of the best dishes not available such as Black Cod, scallops, wagu beef and our sparking of choice...thankfully the prawn toast was available and as good as ever. I hope next time will be better
Saabirah Hare
Okay. So this place was probably not my type of place because I personally did not like it. My boyfriend did but I didn't. I ordered noodles which was probably a mistake. Whereas my boyfriend ordered a hot pot which was actually not too bad. I do however think that this place is very overpriced. Going here was an experience I won't forget. But to be honest I don't think I will be going back as the food is too overpriced and extremely bland for me.
Burton Allen
This establishment is somewhat unique in that it has 4 kitchens all preparing different regional Asian fare labeled as "tapas". The food was very good and the server was very attentive (perhaps over attentive as she recommended so many options to the point of near confusion). The space is dimly lit and Feels very intimate for the large size of the dining room area. The menu has a broad selection of east and Southeast Asian dishes prepared as shares and some mains. The price was somewhat high but the quality was good.

My favorite restaurant in Cape Town without a doubt and it’s halal friendly so there’s many options to choose from. This establishment serves Asian cuisine and I absolutely love their dishes, the Thai green curry with coconut rice is superb as well as their prawn yunan dish.I’ve also enjoyed their prawn popcorn and dim sum on another occasion. The service is excellent and the ambience is amazing..great spot for dinner!
Danika
Haiku is expensive, but worth it. The service was fantastic. We tried a variety of dishes, but my favourite was the spicy lamb potstickers, peking duck (I don't usually like duck, but this was served with a yummy dipping sauce and mini pancakes) and the pad thai with prawn (this is served with chilli and nuts on the side and was delish!). I would definitely recommend this restaurant to those who enjoy asian-style cuisine.
Dahowlett
Insanely expensive but so worth it. Top notch food and wine with service that keeps your meal ticking over. We arrived at a busy time but that didn’t matter. Food came quickly and was properly flavoured. Dig deep but dig often. We had meals there twice in a few days. Yum.
Seema Kahn
What was meant to be a cosy dinner for two turned into a nightmare of poor service and bad attitude by a very unprofessional and angry waiter. Would not expect this from a fine dining restaurant. Would never go back.
Sandy Salerno
Food is great. Service makes it even better. Great selection of Japanese and Chinese classical food. We had a rainbow roll, har gow, hot pot lamb and of course edamame. Our server Ivan made sure everything was perfect. If we lived here this would be a go to restaurant for sure.
Faranaaz Brown
Food we eventually chose was excellent. However we were extremely disappointed that the robata and grill items were not available as the chef who attends to those aspects of the menu was not on duty! What a let down.
Anke Van Dyk
I am a little disappointed by this place, but I guess with a menu like this that makes ALL kinds of Asian food you don’t really make an effort to be great at any particular one of them. I had the Xiao Long Bao (I was really looking for a place around Cape Town that makes soup dumpling) but was very disappointed with it. Hardly any soupiness in the dumpling and the dough was slightly hard. The waiter also kept pronouncing it ‘Beef Long Bow’ and didn’t know what I was asking for at first. <br/><br/>The rest was alright - prawn popcorn, peking duck was good. I did enjoy the dessert tremendously - chocolate fondant was gooey and extra chocolatey. <br/><br/>Also, when I asked for rice for the table I was expecting the short grain steamed rice which would be appropriate given the food but they instead gave what I think was Jasmin rice. <br/><br/>It is incredibly expensive here for what you get in my honest opinion. Next time I’d rather just stick to a place that does one type of Asian cuisine.

This was a spur of the moment decision to eat at Haiku as most of the highly rated restaurants in Cape Town were fully booked ! I have had a few meals at Haiku but this one was satisfactory. Perhaps it is the dark inside and emptiness which detracts from what should be a good dining experience ( as other reviews state).<br/>The crispy soft shell crab was described by a fellow diner as “chicken nuggets” The crispy beef and the peking duck were delicious. The Thai Green curry was overpowered by the fish sauce and was too salty.<br/>Yes on another day may be a good idea to pop into Haiku and try some dim sum and susuhi<br/>Mikaela
Nikita
Wow wow wow ! This place is great! <br/><br/>The food is incredible. <br/><br/>Their dim sum were to DIE for and the sashimi was delicious and beautifully prepared. I was reminded of the amazing sushi I encountered in Los Angeles. <br/><br/>The service was 10/10 ! <br/><br/>I would recommend this place over and over again! I only wish I could have tried more of their dishes!
Kim Jayde “KimJayde” Robinson
Our waitress was so rude and had such an attitude. I truly was upset and we paid so much for the amazing food. It's so sad the service ruined it.

Absolutely love this place. I have been there twice, second time for my birthday. Pricey but lovely for a treat and if you like Asian food. Recommend you call to make a book as they have varied dinner seatings (well when I was last there).
Paul_broome
Food: This was about my fifth time at Haiku. I went out for a light dim sum lunch. Like all the times before my food was delicious. Haiku seems to consistently whip out Asian food taken to the next level. <br/><br/>Service: The service at Haiku is as you would expect, friendly and attentive. <br/><br/>Atmosphere: The restaurant's modern interior is quite dark inside which sets an ambiance for the perfect dinner but not quite the lunch with a view kinda place. <br/><br/>Overall this is the best Asian food I have tried and is definitely a place I will continue dining at.
Irfaan
Very unassuming as you enter. The restaurant is very dark with decor to match. Don't let this deter you though. With a huge menu, go with a huge appetite. With 4 different kitchen areas preparing 4 distinct tastes your pallete will feel as though it's on an Asian tour. The sauces/condiments that come with the meals are exceptional. Each adding it's own unique flavour to the dish. We tried a variety of dishes, all delicious. Stuffed, I had to give the cheesecake a try as it came highly recommended - odd texture but divine. The service is on point, pleasant and friendly. Was a great dining experience. Make sure to book as it does fill up.
Neil Smith
I was very impressed with this foodie find. The four kitchens offer an impressive selection of beautifully presented asian cuisine and the setting was very trendy. Service is super, the menu suggestions were very welcome. If you are ever in the area try the duck spring rolls and the crunchy salmon roses! A feast for the taste buds.

Cape Town is so much better because of you!! The food .. the service.. it's an experience full of yum!! My fav being the tuna tacos, prawn toasts, crispy crab and the coconut rice! I make a habit of visiting this establishment every time I visit the mother city! Please open one in Johannesburg!!
Ecstutor
The food was of an excelent quality, service was superb and the attention to detail was fantastic. I would definitely go back for the dimsum.
Soraya - Adventurous Foodie
Great dim sum, sashimi and woks, service is quick and very welcoming and friendly. Really enjoyed our lunch, will definitely be back again. Thank you :)

Phoned last minute on a Sat night and got a table for 8pm. And in middle of long weekend! Lucky! <br/>It was a great meal. The food comes from four kitchens which makes for a big and complicated menu but the staff were extremely helpful. Finally settled on grilled wagu beef fillet - which was good as a starter and then a red curry fish hot pot with coconut rice - a fantastic combo! And big enough to share. Be warned - the curry was hot!<br/>Loved the amuse-bouche- cucumber in toasted sesame oil and bean sprouts and carrots. <br/>They were out of our first choice of wine - Radford Dale Black Rock. Second choice - Bouchard Finlayson pinot noir didn't go brilliantly with the food.
Raphael Bueno
The food was actually good and very complementary of the Japanese cuisine. However the service was what put me off. The waitress had such an attitude and couldn't provide any feedback on their own menu. <br/><br/>We were sitting close to the kitchen and it was possible to see that our food was ready standing on the counter and she passed up and down for about five minutes before bringing it to the table.<br/><br/>But, I'd definitely try it again
Uressa Chetty
One of my favourite Asian restaurants! The food is always amazing. The best thing to have is the Thai rice bowl, it's delicious. The Thai stir fry chicken is a win too. We also had the pot stickers which were really tasty! Don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu though.

ONE WORD "AMAZING" Great tasting food, really taking you on a journey to the Far East. Had the Penang curry we swapped the lamb for fish so Devine. Also had the salted peppered calamari was really nice and the TOM YuM soup was great hot but not unpalatable.
Cory
I live dining out in Cape Town. Seems like good chefs want to live there. Haiku has great ambience and easy location. Waitstaff is snappy, and the food is just excellent. Will be back. Often.
Chevalier Noir
Very good Asian cuisine option, good service, dimmed lighting, good service. Singapore noodles were very good. Dessert are okay but not delicate.<br/>Agree with the moderate quality/price ratio. Good bottles of wine are R300+, good woks are R180+.<br/>But but if you have the financial means, this remains one of the best options in town.
Gray Handcock
Food was spectacular, presentation was elegant. Comfortable environment for amazing asian food.<br/><br/>If I have to nitpick, I would say the menu text was a bit small for those with old eyes (bring your reading glasses) and there was some fan noise. To be fair, they have multiple kitchens for the various asian food styles and each likely has an extractor fan.<br/><br/>Would I go back? Definitely!!<br/><br/>So back 18 months later. New menu ! Food still stunning. My partner had a Sesame Salmon meal and I opted for sushi: Green Mamba and Salmon Roses which were almost too beautiful to eat. Environment as good as before but fans seemed less intrusive. Meal was finished off by caramel cheese cake and coffee. I heartily recommend Haiku.
Markus Feurle
Best japanese tapas restaurant for me in cape town ! Try ginger beef fillet and shezwan prawns! It costs a little bit more but it's worth it.
Tania
What an amazing experience! Had the Haiku tasting menu, was a great selection from each kitchen and a lot of food! The waiters we friendly and created a great atmosphere. Thanx
Thandi Mpanza
Loved loved Haiku, from the bar service whilst waiting for a table to the actual restaurant. The lighting was a tad dark for me, I like to see my food. However, I'd still go back there again and have certainly recommended it to a few friends. The food was just amazing.
Siya
Great food here and very tasty. Awesome and cosy setting. Great value for money. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about food and they create a good experience

We had the best sushi and dim sum at Haiku! As it was our first time we were really well introduced to the concept by out waitress. We definitely recommend this restaurant for sushi lovers!
Mbaki Wotho
the setting is really amazing (minimalist yet exquisite). it gets a bit loud but i really enjoy how the lighting and the colours offer an authentic asian feel, even the outer casings of the menus are reminiscent of the haramaki worn by the samurai.<br/><br/>our waitron Asisipho was of really great help - offering wonderful suggestions as well as always being available when needed without being overbearing. <br/><br/>i was a bit disappointed with the portion size given not only the price but also the suggestion that these are ‘sharing’ portions. that being said, the chicken yakitori was very flavourful and the spicy mayo it comes with was packs an awesome kick. i wouldn’t recommend one gets sushi here as i think that it’s just okay. i had the black cod as the mains while my partner had the peking duck; both were sublime and i’ve not had fish so well cooked for some time - thoroughly enjoyable. it’s worth mentioning that the rice was also delightful, i’m a big fan of asian style rice and this was among the best.<br/><br/>i will definitely be back
Era Ace
An amazing atmosphere with exquisite Food! <br/>My companion & I absolutely love Haiku. The mint lamb chops, the Korean Chili chicken, the dim sum, & the list goes on! Those are a few of our favorite dishes. <br/>You can never go wrong with any selection off the menu. <br/>If you love Asian food this is definitely a MUST! <br/>
Murray Lovemore
Food was beyond amazing... Very well run restaurant. The only tiny downside was the height of the lights above the table - kind of felt like it was in my face, but nonetheless, definitely worth a visit. I had the Peking Duck and Soparro (I think I spelt it right but it's a Japanese beer)
Melissa Marengo
delicious!!! the dim sum are tasty and paired with exquisite sauces, I recommend the Haiku sushi (it's a platter style with tasters of all the sushi), perfect amount and offers variety. the crispy beef is also a must have! just all round fresh ingredients, superb taste and great friendly service
Asi Peretz
Absolutely stunning. The vibe and the food are amazing. We ate the dim sum, sushi platter, crispy beef. All were superb. Chocolate fondant desert is out of this world. A real treat! I will be back. Again and Again, and again.
Tiffany Lara Elliott
Wow! What an amazing experience. <br/><br/>Came here as a party of 4 plus a toddler. They were very welcoming of the toddler, even though the vibe is quite fancy. <br/><br/>The food was absolutely divine and the service was great too. <br/><br/>I would recommend the pekking duck as well as the spinach and feta dim sum. <br/><br/>This restaurant was a bit on the pricey side though!
Shannon Van Wyk
Haiku proves just how slick well run CBD restaurants in Cape Town are. The decor is cosy but minimalist and clean and the service is impeccable but still warm and friendly. Our table of 5 ordered a variety of Dim Sum For starters and I ordered the Orange Duck which I ended up sharing with the table because everyone went crazy for it. The food is beautifully presented and the portions are just perfect and surprisingly filling. When dessert came around I went for the Litchi ice cream to keep it light but after tasting the cheese cake I knew I'd made a mistake.
Lukeconorbolton
I have been here twice. The food never disappoints. The menu is huge and really hard to choose if you aren't very familiar with Asian cuisine but the waiter guided us perfectly and was really helpful. The food was adventurous, exciting and exploding with flavor. The restaurant doesn't have the best vibe. It was lowly lit (they definitely intended this) and wasn't properly full but still an all round best Asian restaurant in Cape Town that I've been to. <br/><br/>Lekker lekker b
Rebecca Shiel
Haiku has some amazing dim sum, sushi and Asian fusion dishes. The service is always fast and the waitrons display impressive comprehensive knowledge on both menus, providing lots of help and suggestions. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat out in Cape Town.
Fatima Kamrudin Mamod
What a fabulous place..the atmosphere, setting and food absolutely loved it..had the chilli prawn dim sum and steak dim sum as a starter yum yum yum one of thee best dim sum iv had..for mains i had the sizzling steak and vegetable noodles absolutely mouthwatering delicious..was dissapointed as i wanted chicolate fondant for dessert but they were sold out so i had the chocolate spring roll which were OK hence the 4.5 rating instead of 5
Atara Jaffe
Sat at the bar. Disappointed in the quality of the food. Also wait staff seemed confused but was attentive. Exceptionally nice atmosphere. Very beautiful
Simone Naicker
What a gem! Was referred to Haiku by the concierge at the One And Only after finding out that Nobu was fully booked. Had a wonderful experience- definite value for money. The pecking duck and the chocolate fondant is a must try. Would have been nice if they had reserved parking space.
Aparajita
The haiku rolls were a great sampling of the sushi rolls on offer and each was uniformly good. The scallop suimai, spicy prawn hargau and prawn and asparagus cheung fun were translucent and tender - just as God meant dimsums to be. The Singapore chilli prawns wok with vegetable egg fried rice rounded out our meal perfectly. Service was attentive and quick.

Haiku is an experience for the senses! From the dimly lit, intimate and exotic asian decor, to the absolutely fantastic food, this restaurant is a gem.<br/><br/>I visited Haiku for my birthday supper. I loved the fact that it is halaal-friendly, as it provides so many more options for me. The dishes are tapas, which means that they are relatively 'small' and are, in fact, made so that the table can order a variety of dishes to be shared amongst the guests at the table. The prices are pretty steep, so you would be forgiven for thinking that the portions are sizeable, hence the heads up. However, the presentation and flavours of each dish are worth the price. <br/><br/>If you're looking for a treat that incorporates a sensory experience, visit Haiku.
Veronica Saha
A wonderful decor, that's what mesmerises one's mind just after entering this restaurant,a luxury, very seating arrangements, with proper amount of lights, very well behaved staffs, authentic dishes, loved the thai stir fry chicken, the tempuras, the dim sums to the noodles and the dish, everything was delighted!!!!
Aalia
Probably my favorite food in Cape Town. Best thing is that it's halaal! So my favorite dish was the chicken lettuce wrap. Cooked to perfection, with the perfect blend of spices! I loved the crispy salmon roses and tuna tacos- the quality of the fish was excellent! The black cod and salmon fashion sandwich were good too. I only didn't really love the chili prawns and the cheesecake- but others seemed to like it. Overall, wow! Must visit!
WonderGuest
I had three different experiences at Haiku as my first was so good I had to come back for more.<br/><br/>My first and third night there I was served by Levona - a wonderful and attentive waitress who had great suggestions and took care of me throughout my dinners. She went beyond the call of duty, when I asked for some ice to take back to my hotel room. When I left she handed me over a huge BOX of ice, which was far too much, but I appreciated the overkill.<br/><br/>The food was great on all three occasions; fresh, delicious, and visually appealing. The sushi was good - if not a little expensive - and their sizzling beef was outstanding. <br/><br/>My second night was not so good. The service was slow and when I complained to Jean-Paul he seemed a little disinterested in this. Which was little disappointing.<br/><br/>I will be back.<br/><br/>(My only major gripe is how little internet one can get on one's phone. Plus there is no wifi as an alternative. I suggest they fix that)
Tiffany
The food at Haiku is absolutely unreal. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Worth every penny. Especially the dumplings! And chocolate spring rolls for dessert. Mojito was great too!
Tracey Smorenburg
Good meal but not as good as past experiences in this restaurant- I think they are trying to do to much and not specializing in a cuisine. The sizzling beef was really good.
Paul Spagnoletti
Great evening, food and service was simply fantastic. Been there a few times, but this time was just at another level. Highly recommended if you like the tapas vibe. We also just asked the waiter to bring his best, so that might have helped ☺️
Ilyaas A. Mayet
Very disappointed in the new menu. The tapas items have now been reduced to smaller sizes while the prices have been increased. The food was on the whole underwhelming. The Peking duck was very good but did little to save an otherwise disappointing evening.
Carin
Haiku service is absolutely amazing. Waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable on menu. The food was superb. We had a variety of dishes as we were 4 people so ordered at least about 15 different meals.
Raeesa Naik
This is a gorgeous dining option to satiate your Asian food cravings. Situated in a more modest section of the bustling CBD, you will definitely enjoy an evening out at Haiku.<br/><br/>The waiter was knowledgable about the menu and rather enthusiastic. I can not stress enough how important it is that you try the salt and pepper squid and duck with orange sauce. Absolutely divine! It was quite difficult to make a choice from the menu, because it is very extensive and detailed. Me and my party ended up throwing caution to the wind and ordering like 10 dishes and sharing them all. Not a bad idea if you are going in groups.<br/><br/>Be sure to bookmark this one if you haven't paid Haiku a visit already. :)
Nishela Ramgoolam
Haiku has been a favourite for a couple of years. The menu has changed but the food is still full of flavour. Favorites include the Peking duck, sizzling beef and coconut rice.
Bronwyn Esterhuizen
Authentic, delicious, full of flavour, hot and fresh. Loved our experience here. Highly recommend the Peking duck, Thai chicken stir fry, crispy beef, and coconut rice. Will be back.

Amongst the best Jap cuisine in SA. Interesting combos, fiery hot sauces and attentive staff make for a wonderful experience.<br/>The spinach dumplings are a must. The tapenyake fish also amongst the best. Looking forward to visiting again :)

What a fantastic evening! It was my third visit to Haiku and as always the experience was nothing short of spectacular!👍🏻 The food is always brilliant and the service is efficient and very friendly! It has been a struggle to find a good Japanese Restraunt but I think in the case of Haiku I have found exactly what I'm looking for👍🏻 The food is a bit pricy but it is still most certainly worth the price! I highly recommend Haiku to anyone looking for some really tasty Japanese food!

Haiku - Asian Tapas and an Attempted Fleecing <br/><br/>I have been a regular diner at Haiku since they opened in Cape Town in 2005 and a staunch supporter of the Bukhara Group over many years .<br/> <br/>I will not be be back !<br/> <br/>Celebrated a birthday dinner with a table of 5 last night . The food was everything one expects from the Group ; good, innovative, stylish, not cheap and accompanied by slick and attentive service .<br/> <br/>My issue came with the presentation of the bill. A ten percent service charge was added (not disclosed on the menu) and “ hidden “ above the sub total line . I have no problem with this practice in itself but personally prefer a tip to be discretionary based on the overall dining and service experience (in this instance it would have been more than the obligatory ten percent) and do not really feel mandatory service charges are warranted on small tables .<br/> <br/>But by far my bigger problem was a fraudulent and dishonest attempt to encourage a further and additional tip, by the Waiter highlighting a second tip line ( after the bill had been totaled with the mandatory tip included )and the and the construct of the bill, which encouraged further tipping over and above the mandatory charge already pre printed and billed . In addition, the waiter failed to disclose that a tip had been included and the unsuspecting would simply have tipped twice , encouraged by the highlighting of the secondary vacant tip line .<br/> <br/>When challenged on the issue the Waiter advised that “ the senior Waiters had told him to do it “ . I took the issue up with the Manager who advised me, with an air of indifference that it was simply “the way the till slips were printed and there was nothing he could do”. I did say that a disclosure by the Waiter and control by Management on what was hand written on the bill may be a partial solution to their apparent printing issues .<br/> <br/>I expressed my displeasure and left a business card with an invitation for someone to contact me.

Awesome asian food, very trendy.. Service was excellent, me and bf ordered different plates and shared, so got to try a few dishes, highly reccomend the prawn toast- sounds wierd but really great and something different.... I especially liked the variety of dim sum.😋

On Valentine's Day my friend and I ordered Bukhara and Haiku for take-outs after a heavy night out! Our order was confused, and when we drove back we were served free champagne in our car while we waited for the food and too top it off the food was free! Thank you Haiku!<br/>Love Gabi and Aimee <br/>Xxx

Fantastic restaurant. The service was incredible, thank you Angelo. Food was spectacular, perfect place for date night as ambience was lovely. We will be back.

Brilliant food.  Comfortable, den like atmosphere.  It is in my top 3 restaurants in the cbd. I usually eat as many dumplings as possible, a bit of yakitori and some duck if I'm feeling extra gluttonous.

This is one of the best places I have ever dined at! In the last 2 months of my stay at Cape Town I have come to this place numerous times; and the best part is that the food is consistently excellent - no matter which dish you try. Absolutely top notch. The service, the ambience and the behavior of the staff also goes with the quality of food - high class!<br/>Be it the Wagyu beef, of the Black Cod or any other dish on the menu, all are exquisite!

This review is of the Haiku at the V&A waterfront. My wife and I visit Haiku every single time we come to Cape Town as the CBD restaurant is amazing and has never ever disappointed us. The experience at the V&A store was poor. The entrée of cucumbers and sprouts weren't brought to our table. We ordered our usual potstickers and dumplings however the quality and flavor were not if the standard of the city store. Our mains were not bad but still not if the quality we have become accustomed to at Haiku. If you go visit their city restaurant which is still excellent.

This is a beautiful restaurant with a great energy and ambience. It was extremely hot inside and I had to keep walking outside to cool down! The Dim Sum was very good as was the salmon sashimi. I also had the sizzling beef with noodles and vegetables- this was very average. I was shocked that the noodles were R84 😳 On the whole this is a great place but also very over priced. If you are going for the food then I would not recommend it as you can get better food at better prices and therefore much better value at many other places.

Haiku has been a firm favourite of ours, we visit the restaurant at least once every time we visit Cape Town.<br/><br/>The food is consistently delicious and of excellent quality but the service leaves much to be desired and quite truthfully makes me question whether we would visit Haiku again.<br/><br/>For a restaurant that prides itself on being the best (and one of the most expensive) restaurants in Cape Town, the service definitely doesn't live up to the price tag!

I really enjoy the Asian tapas idea it's unique. The tom yum soup was really flavorful and so was the dim sum. It's refreshing to find good dim sum that is halaal friendly as well. Will be returning when the dim sum craving rears it's head

This is a personal favourite. Decor is beautiful, with a great ambiance - everything from the lighting to the music is well thought out. The menu is extensive, and everything is worth trying. The tuna tacos are my favourite though. Service is above average but not perfect, but who really cares when the rest of the experience is so good? Don't even think of going anywhere else for asian fusion for a special occasion. R1200 for two people.

Wow, where to start. This place has me hooked on tuna tacos! I crave them, which is a difficult craving to satisfy when you live in Jozi.<br/><br/>The decor, the dark, broody atmosphere, I really don't mind. But the low hanging lights drive me nuts and I am so short it technically shouldn't bother me, but alas it does. A few centimetres high and well.....<br/><br/>The food, here is spectacular! My favourite, you might have guessed are the tuna tacos. I must make clear I don't usually<br/>Iike tuna, raw or cooked. So when first asked to try this dish, it was pretty out there for me. Tuna, crispy tacos, salsa and sauces, I was hooked on first bite! My recent visit resulted in me ordering an entire plate for myself, happiness:)<br/><br/>But there was more yum to come. The prawn toast and peking duck also spectacular in taste. The black bean fish, in a league of its own.<br/><br/>I envy anyone who can just pop by Haiku for tuna tacos or black bean fish. I have to wait until a trip to the Mother City:(<br/><br/>My only gripe with this restaurant, CLEAN your toilets. <br/>Hand wash is so vital in the industry you are in!!!! It's a matter I raised with the manager on a previous visit and on this trip last week. I want to go to a clean loo, with hand wash and something to wipe my hands on. Loo paper lying about, stuff smell and NO hand wash is unacceptable! <br/><br/>I got through the Haiku poor hygiene episode, cause I keep antibacterial hand wipes in my handbag. But seriously, what type of top notch restaurant doesn't pay attention to this stuff, it's part of the full customer journey.

Excellent service (Zee is fantastic), food never disappoints and just one of those restaurants in Cape Town you always have to go back to! Big Fat Italian

Haiku must be the best kept South African secret, it's been 10 years that I have been coming and never ever have I been disappointed, the prawn toast is a must, the the fillet is exquisite and the Peking duck is to die for. An absolute must every time I am in Cape Town plus the service is exemplary.

My boyfriend and I visited Haiku last night as a result of about 10 recommendations from different people and we were not disappointed. The ambiance is so romantic and the perfect venue for a date night or even a business dinner. <br/><br/>We started off with the Spinach and Cream cheese dimsum and it was like an explosion of flavor. Not at all too rich. Then we proceeded to have the prawn popcorn as recommended by our waitor which was absolutely amazing. For our main courses I had the Peking Duck which definitely deserves the award of the best Peking duck in Cape Town. The hoisin sauce was home made and not too sweet or salty. Very well balanced. My boyfriend ordered the lamb chops which were seasoned well, my only critique was that they were a tad dry. <br/><br/>For desert we had the Mango and Green tea ice cream which was a home run and then ordered the cheesecake as well. I am going to have dreams about that cheesecake. It was perfect. The caramel sauce was not too sweet. With a good wine selection and amazing staff I will be back sooner rather than later! Major recommendations!

Got taken to Haiku on date night, and wow what a lovely evening filled with amazing food and wine. I am definitely a girl who likes being wined and dined so Haiku saw to that very well. We ordered basically the whole menu, but my favourites were the prawn popcorn and the Thai stir fry chicken. With the dessert I had the chocolate spring rolls which were crispy and oozed with chocolate. They were amazing. The service was great, our waiter was very friendly and always guided us with our choices. Haiku is definitely one of the best restaurants in Cape Town.

Haiku has always been on my list of Cape Town favourites. The service and food at Haiku is consistently phenomenal, and last night was no exception!<br/><br/>For starters we had the dim sum, which is to die for! Packed with flavor and steamed to perfection. A must try is the spicy lamb pot sticker. The mains were equally impressive!<br/><br/>Haiku is an incredible dining experience. I would suggest ordering a variety of tapas for the table and sharing!

Ever since Dr Sabi Sabharwal opened the first Bukhara in the Cape Town cbd in the nineties his group's foodie endeavours have kept regulars coming back for more year after year.<br/>HAIKU is a particular delight to frequent...<br/>The dim sum selection, mint lamb chops, sizzling grills, orange duck, tempura prawn & tempura veges are must-order staples at this unique Asian Tapas gem

Went to this place after a full day's work. I wasn't sure what to Expect when going there. We then met #Zee the amazing service extraordinaire. What #Zee did was making eat at this place an experience. It wasn't only about the food, it was an experience. If you ever get a chance to go there, Tell #Zee I sent you and she will give you an experience of a lifetime. Number 1 Place to ever eat at in Cape Town. Amazing.

If you are looking for tasty tapas Haiku is the place to go. Their crispy duck is really something. They have three kitchens that serve different menus. I was keen on tapas so I asked the waitress what she would recommend. Everything she recommended was delicious. It's warm and I loved the ambiance. Prawn tempura there was the best I have ever tasted. I know with tapas prices an easily add up so I was happy to see that their prices are good. Can't wait to go back.

I've always been a fan and it has been a while. I prefer the space for couples as the acoustics aren't great (we sat in the far corner and the music was often overruled by what sounded like a motorbike revving outside - I think it was one of the air vents) but I enjoy the slick interiors and the intimacy of sharing dishes. <br/><br/>They were out of stock of the Muldebosch Chenic Blanc so we settled on a Kanu (either a chenin or viognier - it went well with our meal). Unfortunately I wasn't very hungry so we asked our waitress for her recommendation. She suggested some tapas to share. We ordered two Robata (salmon and a fillet shitake mushroom) and an avo and prawn tempura. Some of the staff were photographing their new menu (it launched the next day) and we sampled a basil and tamarind prawn - which turned out to be the best of everything we tasted. <br/><br/>We had a lovely, chilled eve - I'd like to try the sister restaurant at the V&A.

Definitely for those who like spicy food. A large tapas based menu of the best dishes from the East. The setting and ambience is smart, elegant, and subdued, but not stiff or stuckup. As an added treat the various chefs can be seen practicing their arts through the glass walls of their individual kitchens. Good service from vigilant waiters. A huge wine menu. You have to try the Mango Icecream for dessert, it is sublime. Top dining in Cape Town.

Wow! One of the best restaurant experiences I've had. I have nothing bad to say about this place. The food is exquisite and your tastebuds are in for a real treat. Pricey but so worth it. Gotta spoil yourself every once in a while right? ;)
Ifeedmyboyfriend
Absolutely stunning and out of the box - great place for date night (as we did) or even for a group as all the food is "tapas" style and therfore great to share with friends. Everything we had, from the sushi to the dim sum, was well made and beautifully presented! I would definitely recommend the Spicy Lamb Pot Sticker - best dim sum I am ever had.

What an absolutely stunning evening! Despite the struggle to locate this tucked away little goldmine, we were eventually welcomed through doors of the mysterious and authentically set up Haikui.<br/><br/>Our Waiter, Andy, was on the ball, extremely patient and well informed when it came to explaining how the tappas menu works and recommending the "must-try" meals. We love dim sum. Even more so, we love GREAT DIM SUM. Which is exactly what Haiku gave us. We went for a combo of the spicy prawn, normal prawn and kingklip which were absolutely heavenly! Served fresh and piping hot, it was honestly the best dim sum I have ever tasted🙌🏽 <br/><br/>After a long deliberation over a seriously long menu, our main meal choices were the Thai chicken stir fry, Sizzling Ostrich Fillet, Ginger Beef Fillet and I ordered the Chilli Chicken Stir Fry. My Mistake was not asking how the chicken was prepared because I was presented with a bowl of fried chicken... And I don't eat fried food. However, our waiter was all too happy to replace it with a different dish and I asked for the Thai Chicken Stir Fry which my mum had ordered for herself. <br/><br/>The rest of our meals arrived together and the combinations of Thai spices and Asian aromas that floated around our table was exquisite. We barely spoke to each other while collecting mouthfuls between our chopsticks, a clear indication of how freaking amazing our food was.<br/><br/>Everything was absolutely delicious and my meal was particularly stunning. I love dishes that offer a combination of flavours and this is something that Haiku are definitely getting right. From my first experience, I really think that they are mastering the art of Thai cuisine and I can't wait to go back and try something different!

Best tasting tuna Tacos in South Africa. Sizzling dishes are great too.

Haiku definitely has the best range of Asian tapas in Cape Town- their tuna tacos were incredible, as well as the spinach and cream cheese dim sum.

I've had the privilege of dining at Haiku as a guest on three separate occasions. Each experience has been identical - good service, intimate atmosphere and SUPERB (albeit pricey) food! Nothing that I've tried has been poor, with the Lamb Chops, Prawn Popcorn and Banana Crepes being highlights which I repeat each time I visit. Their reputation is deserved and well-earned.
The Cape Town Glutton
On Saturday night we had some Really delicious Asian style tapas at Haiku. The menu is quite large so we had a lot to choose from, we decided to order a couple of things, which were all delicious, we especially loved the beef and miso pot stickers and the water dumplings! The restaurant is very romantic and the service is wonderful, we would recommend this place for a celebration more than an everyday kind of place, but we loved it nevertheless!
Klara Aizupitis
Perfect date night spot. Definitely out of my price range, but that's why I say date night spot (just kidding... or am I? Holler at me boys). Our waiter was kind of awkward (he kept basically hurrying us along but in a weird way), but it was unintentionally hilarious, so we couldn't even be mad. The food is good, even though I'm not the biggest fan of tapas (sharing is not my strong suit).
Sapna Naik
This restaurant never disappoints. The food is always excellent, full of flavour and the service excellent. A good place to go for a treat as it can get quite pricey especially if you order a big variety.

Been there a few times, good for the variety.<br/>Food is good, but very much overpriced.<br/>Quality of waiting staff are not on par with prices charged.<br/><br/><br/>

We are here tonight on the 31 st July ... This food is the best I've eaten in Asian cuisine ever in South Africa ! The like chili prawns and crispy beef with the prawn dim sum and chicken dim sum was totally totally 10 star! Highly recommended! Excellent service !
Foodhunter
Absolutely love this place. The food is exceptional and has been consistent over the years. Don't get better than the dim sum her whilst the salmon robata & Peking duck are on a level of their own!

I had dinner at Haiku on Saturday with my boyfriend and it was amazing.<br/><br/>We had ordered several dishes including prawn toast, spinach and cream dim sum, lamb pot stickers (fried dumplings) and angry duck with pancakes. Each dish had flavour, was served when ready and shared and thoroughly enjoyed by us. To end off the meal I had the cheesecake with caramel which was very rich and sweet, I think it should be served with something like cream to lighten the richness of it.<br/><br/>The meal goes perfectly with wine and there's a wide range of wines to choose from including blends. We had a bottle of Thelema Merlot which I would suggest if you want an easy drinking wine.<br/><br/>The service was very good as we had a friendly and efficient waiter.<br/><br/>I highly recommend Haiku if you looking for a luxury dining experience with delicious Japanese food and I loved the tapa style of serving.
