Review Sevruga Restaurant - Cape Town Central

Mpumelelo Ndaba
Came here for dinner with my colleagues, unfortunately I don’t eat seafood nor am I a fan of red meat, so I had the vegan pasta and dessert (I forgot the name but the picture is attached). The food was okay but the service was great. I also forgot our waitress’s name but she was amazing and managed to handle a group of 17 people really well.

We went here for our company team lunch yesterday (08 Dec 2023). The food was absolutely amazing. Everyone enjoyed their meals, no complaints. The portions are very generous. The restaurant is beautiful and has some great anesthetics. The only issue I had was that it was quite packed, very loud. But that doesn't take away from the great time we had. I would definitely recommend this restaurant 👌🏾

Sevruga in the bay area serves up fresh seafood and sushi with a nice view of the marina. The atmosphere is classy, but the prices are high and service can be hit-or-miss. Great for a special occasion if you're focusing on the food and the scenery. The sushi is excellent, offering a fresh and creative selection that is served beautifully, alongside an impressive wine list that caters to various palates. However, the steak misses the mark, lacking in flavor and texture, which can be a letdown considering the price point. While the seafood and sushi are the stars here, steak lovers might find their experience falling short of expectations. The menu includes an extensive wine selection that highlights South Africa’s renowned vineyards, featuring both well-known labels and hidden gems. Guests particularly appreciate the local Cape Winelands offerings, allowing for perfect pairings with sushi and seafood specialties.

Excellent! Top quality food! I ordered a sirloin steak and it is one of the first places where they served it perfectly medium-well. My husband had Hake-filet and it was very well seasoned and tender. Dessert was excellent! A very tasty chocolate fondant. Service was espectacular! Our waiter, Prince, was very kind and friendly. He recommended us the best red wine we ever had: De Grendal. Very recommendable!

So fresh and so good! Same owner and similar menu as Grand Pavilion (in Sea Point). Loved the ceviche and the beef carpaccio! Server was also very attentive. Highly recommend if you’re in the V&A waterfront area

The waiter was super friendly, explained quite well the menu. They have happy hour free cocktails when you buy one you pay half price. I quite enjoyed their 3 course winter special. But the prices were different from the one's on their website. I really loved the atmosphere, where I was seated I could easily see the Signal hill and the harbour.

A great spot facing the harbour with well prepared food. Only small criticism was although it was relatively quiet when we visited the food took a while but that could be a sign it’s being prepared from fresh. We had mozambique prawns and creamy seafood linguini. Both fresh and cooked perfectly - very enjoyable while watching the boats in the harbour.

The food was excellent and the service too, once we got in. It was frustrating being asked to wait while other customers without a reservation for tables because they happened to speak with a different member of staff. It was very noisy at times because of a few customers but still a pleasant environment for a meal.

This restaurant is absolutely superb, the food is amazing, the service is delightful and the location is perfect, our waiter was Maon who is a bliss and does his job with passion, the restaurant is clean, upmarket, really 5star, so much so that we went back the very next day for dinner and Chris was now our waiter also a delightful person who took great care of us, if you are in Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront make sure to visit this gem of a place.

Airy! Right by the water’s edge! You sit in air conditioned luxury while you observe the hustle and bustle of boats and seals pass you by. A true hidden gem! Get the carpaccio starter!! The chefs put so much attention into plating their meals! Looks like a work of art and tastes like it’s been prepared with love 💚 Definitely worth the value!

Nice place for tourists who wish to have a meal with a view. Good service, waiters knows their job well. The only thing I didn’t like is that the music was loud adding the number of customers, we had to eat quickly and leave.
Sergius Barretto
One of the best restaurants I've eaten at, worldwide, fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked. Expensive. The seafood platter and sushi platter were super ! Panna Cotta infused with amaretto is also an absolute must have

From the moment I arrived, the attentive and friendly staff made me feel welcomed and well taken care of. Sevruga's menu offered a range of tantalizing options, and I opted for a three-course meal. While the starter fell short of my expectations, the main course was a standout. The perfectly cooked sirloin, bursting with flavor and accompanied by expertly crafted side dishes, was a true delight. To conclude the meal, the dessert provided a sweet and satisfying finish. The overall quality of the ingredients and the skillful preparation showcased the culinary excellence of the restaurant. Beyond the delectable cuisine, Sevruga Restaurant boasts panoramic views that are simply breathtaking. The picturesque scenery adds an extra layer of elegance to the dining experience, making it a feast for both the taste buds and the eyes. I highly recommend!

Sevruga for the win!!! We visited on Sunday for 7th wedding anniversary and we loved the Asian Oysters so much that we had to go back on Monday, for my husband's birthday. Ilunze was too sweet when we surprised my husband with a birthday treat. Well done

We went for a late lunch on a Monday - restaurant was rather empty. Good sushi as a starter and great seafood linguine with lots of seafood. The restaurant is decorated in a clean and simple style and is directly on the waterfront. Service was friendly. Wine prices seemed a bit high.
Princess Niritika
The food is presented well, the kitchen/chef does accommodate special requests if you are vegan/vegetarian
The service is great, perhaps more of a selection is needed for vegans and lacto vegetarians. Overall a wonderful experience with great service !

Table of 5 had dinner here on 16th Feb 2020. 2 of us had Salmon sashimi - one in a salad and one in a platter. In the early hours of Monday morning we were both violently ill. Other members of the party who sampled small pieces of the salmon complained of stomach cramps. While we can’t be certain, it is highly likely that Sevruga gave us food poisoning.

Hands down the worst service I have ever received.

Reservation was made for 18:15 for 12 people.
Tables were not ready when we arrived, so we had to wait. Then they tried to fit 12 people into a table for 8, we had to ask for an extra table to be added.

After sitting at the table for 15 minutes we finally managed to get the attention of a waiter to order some drinks.

Was more than 30 minutes after being seated that we were given menus to look at.

After ordering (only mains - 11 of which were fish dishes) we were finally served our food at 20:00. One of these was incorrect and had be returned and redone (another 15 min wait).

Not once were we asked if our food was satisfactory or if we would like our drinks refilled.

When we finally left at 20:30 we had been there over 2 hours for 1 round of drinks and a main course (no starters, no dessert).

I feel I could have gone out to sea, caught, returned and prepared all the meals faster than that.

Safe to say that none of us will ever be back.

Monday night dinner with the team brought us to Sevruga. The starter of gnocchi with basil cream and roasted tomato is the best gnocchi I have had. The vegetarian sushi was average with the exception of the tofu boats. Dessert of creme brûlée was yummy. Limited vegetarian options.

Arriving for dinner with friends we were welcomed by elegant decor with a fresh feel and relaxing music. Our server was not the best but good enough. Our food was tasty. Overall a good experience.
IG Blogger: @sexual_tongue
Food Place: @sevruga_restaurant
Patrons: @lyrad_lauxes, @angelzowie
My Order:
- Baby Calamari
- Black 'Sushi' Plate

You are definitely paying for the location, service and presentation at this restaurant. Sitting by VA Waterfront in Cape Town, I had a pleasant experience here. I was recommended to try the sushi here, however I have tried many, many sushi places and this does not live up to authenticity and flavor that I have already tasted. You have a lot of competition out there!

I also took advantage of the seafood and ordered 'BABY CALAMARI' as a starter which was my favourite. Crispy and Salty! Yummy! Overall, the service here is A+. I just think all Cape Town people are friendly - in my experience.
Damian
Situated along the Harbour, being seated outside in summer is a real treat. Good view of the Harbour. Relatively quiet too compared to the typical business of the rest of the waterfront. Service is great. Waiters are friendly and very helpful. Food is great. Both delicious and presented well. Decent drinks menu. Something for everyone. Good value for money.

Absolutely delicious.
Greeted in such a welcomed manner.
Seated in a very neat, clean and classy restaurant.
Loved the interior.
The service was outstanding.

And the the food, top class sushi, mouthwatering calamari and quality cappuccino.

Well done, it was remarkable.
Have not eaten here as yet but I did love the ambience.

The cocktails we had were absolutely amazing! Definately not only for fine dining if chilling with a drink is what you're after.

service was great as well, will definately return :)

The Lamb Fillet is so sooo good! The sushi is superior quality and fresh, complimented with a good variety of wine and amazing service, a must do when in V&A!

Really love this place!! If you're a sushi fan.. you cannot go wrong here! Super fresh, well prepared, well plated.. Really really lovely!

Only downfall was that some of our scallops were just not crisped enough.. and lacked that caramelized crust.. but the rest was amazing!

The deserts are definitely going straight to the hips though.. because you'll want to eat each and every single one.. every day.. for breakfast, lunch and dinner😍

Good job guys 👏

This used to be one of my favourite Sushi places but the last few time i feel that their sushi isn't the same. A month ago they got the sushi wrong, and i don't know what they thought was a bambam roll but what i got was not it. What tipped the boat for me was yesterday's visit. I definitely wont be back. I witnessed one of the waiters pick his nose in the public area while people were seated. The restaurant was very empty and i just happened to be looking at him. Anyway, very gross. thankfully he wasn't my waiter!!

The location of this restaurant couldn’t be better. It was easy to find, not too far from the action and still manages to have a fantastic view. The hostesses are lovely and efficient. We began with a drink at their bar, great decor and comfortable seating. Then we moved to our table that I had booked using the Dineplan app - it was fantastic. We shared the scallops starter and loved it. The plating was exceptional. For our main we shared the Platinum sushi plate, also enjoyable. My only critiques are that the bar and toilet areas smelt strongly of paint or thinners. This made us feel a bit lightheaded before our meal. Additionally, I feel like our waiter could’ve paid more attention to us. For such a busy restaurant, there should be enough staff members working a shift so that customer-waiter relations can be built. Other than that it was still fantastic!

Great service and delicious meals.
The staff are well trained and although we arrived during peak serving time, the kitchen sent out our meals sooner than expected. I’d certainly recommend their White Chocolate Martini.
David
Spent 30 minutes trying to flag down a waiter to order drinks. Eventually gave up and walked out. Second worst dining experience in CT, behind their main restaurant Beluga.
Robin Edwards
I love sevrugas sushi, its really tasty and delicious!!!!!

I would recommend this place for couples fine dining, the atmosphere is romantic as well
Zelmarie Beselaar
Wonderful sushi and an amazing view of the Waterfront. The sushi is innovative and executed well - from the dragon roll to their sashimi, it's faultless.

Great service on multiple occasions and booking in advance does guarantee a better table (regarding the view).
Nkosinathi Majika
Good location and setup. Service is above average and the food is okay, nothing special. Not worth the price considering what you can get elsewhere in Cape Town within close proximity.
Kelly Tameryn Heroldt
After hearing such great things about Sevruga, I was very excited to finally try it out! The food was good , service was good but I can’t say I was blown out the water by the food. I can’t fault it. But I don’t think it lived up to the hype . I personally thing there are places in Cape Town that exceed food expectation at half the price
Nicholle Kruger
I enjoyed the fresh and crisp setting with the use of white decor in the 'outdoor' seating area. I enjoyed the restaurant's atmosphere on a sunny day, overlooking the harbour and watching the crowds stroll past. The service and food was good. I highly recommend their sushi and cocktail special.
Na'ilah Mohidin
I went to this place for my anniversary with high expectations as it was recommended by nearly the entire Cape Town sushi eating population, however, as recommended by the restaurant I had to make a reservation which I did and EVEN called the day before to check if they had it down still.

As you can guess we turn up 5 minutes before our reservation and I present myself and they tell me they cannot find any reservation under that name.

I was extremely upset as this place is always busy, I told the hostess to check again and she comes back saying I was put down for a different time. We had to wait ages before we were seated again.

The sushi was nice but as it was busy it took ages to arrive.

The poor managerial skills just put us completely off from our night. So if you are looking to come here call an hour before your reservation time to ensure your booking also take down the hostesses name that arranges your reservation. It'll help you a lot.

Really lovely place and a super great atmosphere. Our waiter was efficient and really nice. Food is super good and comes out timeously. Definitely worth it.
Cape Foodie
An old faithful at the V&A. Sister restaurant to Beluga in Greenpoint, we are fans of their sushi and dimsum. However there is something for everyone, and all prepared well. We decided to be adventurous and try their sevruga signature sushi platter. It was something different, not bad in taste, but perhaps venison, passion fruit cucumber and beef tartare are better suited to other dishes. Excellent attentive service, the crisp white table cloths give an air of elegance and the location outside of the mall is great. Also look out for their seasonal set menus as these tend to be good value for money.
Warren Manipersad
Absolutely the best affordable sushi in town during , well that’s when you get it half price between 12pm and 6pm👍🏼 I definitely recommend going here if you want great sushi that won’t put too much strain on your wallet
Lauren Laa Hebbs
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but not so much anymore. The service was okay and they have changed their menu. Although the salmon roses may look good the salmon was a bit chewy and the rice had hard pieces and stuck to the back of my throat. The service was good, however I would rather go else where for sushi when at the Waterfront.

This place is great, food amazing!! Views and location superb. Try the muscles for a starter you won’t regret it! The guy looking after us was very knowledgeable and engaging loved it his name is Tash..

Was pleasantly surprised that my experience at Sevruga matched my experience from Beluga. Usually one is always somewhat better than the other. Definitely enjoyed my meal , the fresh sushi was outstanding!
It's a beautiful airy venue with a wide variety and great service considering the restaurant was packed! Lovely location and ambience! The view and vibe makes it even more worthy picking this spot!

😕We have a love/hate relationship with Sevruga... on one hand we have known it for more than 6 years and have frequented it for all manner of events... from birthday dinners to Sunday afternoon sushi to reunions with friends over drinks and on the other hand there have been numerous rude waitrons and hostesses, mixed up reservations and overpriced but underwhelming dishes...

It falls short of its sibling restaurant Beluga (read our review of Beluga 📖) and perhaps it's still open because of the 'half price' sushi - which is actually the normal price of sushi elsewhere 👀, and the fact that it's at the waterfront and easy to go to after a long day of shopping and frequented by a number of tourists.

It's not to say the food isn't great, we've enjoyed the black plate (🍣), deep fried wontons 🍤🍤, their de-boned beef ribs🍖 , their line fish, their dim sum ⛩ and so many more

Indeed their drinks too are good, especially their cocktails (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) ... and for dinner their expansive wine selection... HOWEVER in the myriad of restaurant options at the V&A waterfront (and there is an ever growing number of them) we never think of it as an option , unless it's the most convenient place to go to or someone we are with insists on going...

Very happy with what was received here... Good food and good wine. Service was acceptable. Pricing more focused on foreigners though. Good experience though

It was my first time at Sevruga and will definitely be my last. We took oversea's clients for dinner as we had heard great things about Sevruga. The overall service was good but the food was terrible.

I have nothing against paying a premium for a meal, but then it needs to be of a certain standard. This was most certainly not the case.

I ordered a Fillet and Prawn special and asked for the fillet to be medium. It was completely overdone and actually burnt on the outside, the manager agreed and even remarked that it looked burnt. They prepared me a new fillet which was better cooked but looked almost like it had been flattened with a tenderizing hammer and then folded over. The prawns had absolutely not taste.

My colleague ordered the Chicken Steamed Bun, As per the attached photo it had paper underneath with a description. Showing it obviously was a pre-bought bun that was just steamed and not made fresh. The Dim Sum was not good.

The Sushi was basically a blob of rice encased in seaweed. The fish size was inconsistent and it was overcooked to the point it had the texture of biltong. The potato cake underneath the fish was completely burnt.

In general we left disappointed, the food was terrible, something you wouldn't expect from restaurant with such a good reputation.

My family and I decided to come here for my dad's birthday dinner and it was a great decision! The waiter (his name Western) was attentive and hard working. Once we were seated he placed our napkins onto our laps and then brought complimentary bread and water to our table. The bread was warm with a cakey crumb but crisp crust.
Everything is very sophisticated and there is a warm vibe with the dim lighting inside the restaurant.
My mom and brother ordered the beef fillet while my dad had the kingklip. Both my dad and brother said that they will never be able to eat steak or fish anywhere but sevruga ever again because nothing has ever tasted so amazing. My brother especially loved the truffle mash. I ordered the ostrich with veggies and the ostrich was cooked to absolute perfection. I didn't see the point of adding the wilted lettuce leaves to the plate but once again, the ostrich was amazing! My sister ordered the first course baby calamari as she wasn't very hungry when we ordered but after her first bite she said she had wished she had gone for the main course because she wanted more of the deliciousness. We ordered chips for the table and they were chunky, with a crisp outside and mushy inside. I personally prefer skinny fries but these were still tasty. For my dad's birthday dessert they brought date pudding served with chocolate ice cream and a crumble thing. My dad said it was moist and not too rich and he thought that the crumble added that extra crunch element which elevated the dish from good to great.

Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for a fancy night out as it is a fantastic place to indulge in some luxury dining and absolutely scrumptious food!

I had been to Sevruga 3 years or so last. The quality of food and service has always been impeccable. Tonight’s experience was horrendous. The food was dry and terribly prepared. My husband and my food. The waitress was in her own zone and mainly absent. I could write a lengthy review, but wouldn’t know where to start. We quickly rushed over to Haagen Daaz afterwards to get the terrible tastes out of our mouths!
Nandi Dominique Mncwango
Worth your buck in my opinion. Wait staff were very professional, and despite it having been Christmas day, I couldn't feel the 'rush'. Had the Scallops as a starter (loved it), and the Salmon and risotto for mains - the risotto is quite a heavy portion considering how creamy it is, but tasty nonetheless. Creme brulee for dessert, was rather underwhelmed. Enjoyed my overall experience

We were looking forward to a great experience but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The waitress (a white lady named “Thandi” who went to great lengths to let us know that was her real name) treated us like second class customers, was condescending, and was basically rude. She only started being nice when it was towards time for us to pay, which says a lot. Not impressed & definitely won’t be going back there.
Lauren Niekerk
We booked for Christmas lunch at Sevruga. The reservation process wasn't the most efficient as there was a lot of back and forth and delays. However, they definitely made up for it on the day and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

The restaurant, cleverly situated along the strip near the big wheel, is trendy and sophisticated with elegant white tablecloths and refined wood finishes. When one of SA's top comedians also shows up to have lunch here, it's very clear that Sevruga is a place to be and be seen!

The 3 course set menu provided a great selection as there was a meat, fish and vegetarian option for the mains and starters. We all opted for the popcorn coated spicy calamari starter with peanut sauce in the shape of a Christmas tree (nice touch!) Literally THE best calamari I've ever eaten: tender, perfectly coated crunchy exterior and a lovely dipping sauce! For mains we had linefish - perfectly cooked with a yummy veloute. The chives potato cake was good but there were big peppercorns inside and biting into them was unpleasant. The pickled carrot and buttered cabbage were good but could have been less on the plate. The meat dish was amazing - the lamb was juicy and tender and the Malala mash was perfectly spiced. The pickled cabbage was a miss though and the mint sauce tasted more like yoghurt. For dessert, I LOVED the popcorn infused vanilla creme brûlée! The elements worked perfectly together and were delicious. Two fellow diners found the mango jelly and passion fruit sorbet too sour for their personal tastes. The miso sticky toffee pudding was good but our fellow diner found it to be slightly dry. But these are all minor critiques that can be fixed. The portion sizes were perfect for most of us at the table.

Service was great on the whole. Shoutout to our waiter, Papi, who was welcoming and struck the perfect balance of being attentive without overly in our faces. The managers were quick to assist and kept checking in with us to see if we were fine.

I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant out, especially when you want to seriously impress on a special occasion!
Joash Narainsamy
Sevruga is a lovely dining experience. Overlooking the waterfront right next to where tourist boats leave, the area is constantly buzzing, making it the perfect spot for lunching while you people watch.

Their food is great! On several occasions I've had sushi, which is always fresh and flavorful.

Their dim sum is bright and delish, a modern, South African twist on the Asian tradition.

I'd highly recommend this place!
Carien Van Der Walt
Great ambience and service! Unfortunately my seared tuna was not done according to my request and was completely overdone. However the manager had it quickly fixed and it was handled very well. My friend had the ostrich fillet and found it to be very well spiced and seasoned and it comes highly recommended. Great wine selection and a fair amount of great wines sold by the glass.

Came here for my birthday dinner this evening with my wife. We arrived at 7 and the restaurant filled up quite quick.

For starters we ordered a portion of the chicken and of the prawn deep fried wontons which we shared. They were really good and the sauce given with them is really amazing.

For mains I had the salmon on a bed of risotto. Wife had the tuna with dried tomato puree and quail eggs. We agreed to eat half our meals and then swop, but to be honest after tasting my salmon and risotto I really didn't want to. The tuna was really good but that salmon and risotto was out of this world.

I was too full for dessert but my wife ordered the crème brulé. She insisted I try some and I was blown away. The smooths and lightest brulé I have ever had. And the most intense sorbet to accompany it. The 2 flavours just balance each other so well.

The service was top notch. Our waiter Cedric was brilliant. And the little extra birthday touch from management really made my day.

Thank you for a memorable evening.
Katie Hughes
Disappointing - below average for both the dim sum and sushi. The bao were just dumplings - not the fluffy buns I’m used to, although the duck filling was delicious. The pot stickers had too thick pasty casings and were overstuffed with filling - resulting in a chewy, dry, dense dumplings.

The sushi had disappointingly overworked rice - it was not even able to soak up the soy sauce and was rubbery to chew. The fish seemed fresh enough though and the flavour combinations were ok.

The edamame were over cooked and the prawn tempura were not that at all! Just deep fried breaded prawns! The prawns themselves were cooked well and were tasty and juicy, but there was nothing classic Japanese tempura about it at all.

I get that this is a ‘fusion’ restaurant - but you can’t get sushi and dumpling basics like this that wrong and still call them that. We had better food at the street market.

The lack of napkins/serviettes on the tables was also very weird and not really aligned with a ‘classy looking’ tablecloth restaurant.

Overall not worth the money.
I recently had 4 overseas work colleagues that arrived in Cape Town on the 8/11/17. There flight landed at 19h30 and were staying in Stellenbosch. I thought given the time of there arrival it would be great for them to have dinner at Sevruga's . I made the booking for 5 pax @ 20:00 and arrived there assuming that we could get a fantastic meal and leave the restaurant at around 22h30. Too their and my surprise we waited for about two hours before we received our meal. I do understand that there were 2/3 huge tables filled for a function but this should have been mentioned when I booked. The waiter kept saying he's pushing the kitchen but no indication of actual time when our food was to be brought. This was a quite and embarrassing moment as its the first time these colleagues visited Cape Town South Africa . Never the less I arrived in Stellenbosch at 24h00 that evening.

Although the food is good, but credibility and honesty are very important especially when I am a tourist and coming for my honeymoon.
So other than we had a 15min gap where no one passed my our table and we had to stand from our seat and call someone,
We ordered the sevruga seafood grilled. It was supposed to have king crab and many other items, but we received a tiny piece of crab so I asked the waiter who was surprised so he took the shell and went inside to investigate, then the manager came to tell me yes we serve 50g of crab. I was like really? But the menu says king crab like all other items there is no weight. Then she tell me yes that's it. Do you want more crab?
Since I am not begging I told her it is fine.
Not only the manager took me for a fool by telling me but also she didn't even try to correct their misleading menu.
Mariya Hajjar menu says king crab like all other items there is no weight. Then she tell me yes that's it. Do you want more crab?
Since I am not begging I told her it is fine.
Not only the manager took me for a fool by telling me but also she didn't even try to correct their misleading menu.
@mariy

I was looking forward to this experience, as it is not everyday one can enjoy a menu prepared Michelin Star Chef RIKKU Ó’DONNCHÜ, who has worked with such renowned chefs as Marco Pierre White.

Trying to get a booking proved to be a bit of a challenge. It took an entire day of texting before it was finally confirmed. Understandably, the chef had other commitments so he is not always available, maybe allow yourself some lead time to ensure you are not disappointed if you are interested in booking.

The venue is stylish and modern and the service was excellent. The 5 Course Taster Menu was as follows

SALT

This course consisted of scallops, miso, salted cucumber, chili and roe, beautifully plated.

The scallops were Wow! so fresh, you could almost taste the ocean. The chili combined with the saltiness was lovely and refreshing.

BITTER

The next course was Chocolate Venison tartare, smoked quail eggs, parmesan, sesame seeds and coriander oil. I was surprised by this course as I expected the gaminess of the venison to dominate but it was lovely and silky, maybe attributable to the influence of the dark chocolate. This was my favourite and again aesthetically a beautiful plate.

SOUR

Swordfish ceviche wasabi gel pomegranate and charcoal emulsion. This course was such a surprise, sometimes one gets the feeling that culinary boundaries are pushed purely for the sake of trying to be innovative or clever, sometimes even at the expense of the dish. However, the charcoal emulsion in this course proved to be a revelation adding a different, smoky dimension to this ceviche. The texture wasn’t at all invasive or gritty as I had anticipated.

UMAMI

Roast sirloin, pear, and blue cheese, butternut, balsamic and nuts. This “umami” or savoury course reminded me of one of my favourite treats and I loved the combinations. If I had to criticise, the chef would later explain, it would be that there was remanence of a paprika rub that was fiery strong on the sirloin which tarnished this course somewhat for me. The combination worked so well though.

SWEET

Yogurt baked custard, chocolate, raspberry, white chocolate, mint oil and dehydrated mint leaves. This course was amazing, sometimes the dessert course is treated as an afterthought and doesn’t necessarily receive the same care and attention as its predecessors, bit I can assure you this most certainly was not the case. It was fresh and fruity and tart as a result of the dehydrated raspberry powder. I’m not one for sweet desserts so I really enjoyed this course tremendously. The raspberry powder is the best thing since sliced bread as far as I’m concerned.

In conclusion, I sometimes get the sense that there is a very fine line between the delivery of culinary artistic wizardry and quite frankly just being gimmicky. In this case one could easily be excused for running out of superlatives in describing just how good this meal was overall. It was fresh, carefully thought out and sophisticated and definitely worth the effort.

Lovely atmosphere and elegant decor. Reservation is a must. We were looked after really well from the moment we walked through the door. The food was delicious and exquisitely plated. Dessert was a good balance and mix of flavours. We will definitely be returning.
Nikita
This place did not live up to expectations.
Their menu is out of date on Zomato, so when we arrived half the things we were hoping to have no longer existed on the menu.
It was dark & dreary inside.
We did have delicious oysters though.
Katy Pea
Freakin' delicious meal. Tried it all, from the sushi and dim sum, to the melt-in-the-mouth beef short ribs and the showstopping beetroot-six-ways dessert. Just wonderful. I feared it would be just another overpriced tourist trap at the V&A but I was very pleasantly surprised. Rikku and his chefs deliver!
Maphophea
my sister and i walked into @sevruga based on zomato ratings, it didn't disappoint. we didn't have a booking and just took a chance, next time we'll definitely make a booking for that outside seating area. the food was amazing, i couldn't get over my calamari starter and the seafood platter main. definitely coming back here again!

The restaurant looks quite upmarket. It was clean & tidy. They cook all their meats using the sous vide method which locks in flavour and moisture. To be honest my steak did not have any more flavour this way that it would have just being grilled. It did however taste like a fresh, good quality piece of meat. My steak was also to underdone as what I requested. My pepper sauce was also very, very thin and not ‘peppery’ enough. The service was good but not great. There were a few occasions where I did feel unwelcome and in the waiter’s way. The food I had definately was not worth the high rating they currently have.

An elegant restaurant with a great view of the close to the habour at the V&A. This place is great for sushi (they usually have year long sushi specials - I love the Green Plate) and cocktails. The Seafood is also highly recommended. Outside seating is open and airy, booking is essential if you want a good table, especially in summer or in great weather. The service is good but below 5 Star, can get bad during busy hours.

This was truly a fine dining experience! Firstly our waitress Asanda, from the moment we sat down, was absolutely outstanding. Definitely a 5 star waitress who gave excellent service. On to the food side of things. Just incredible. I had the crab stick salad to start, it was delicious! For my mains I had the Ostrich fillet, all I can say is it was cooked to perfection! Their creme brule was fantastic. Servruga is definitely the place to go for a great meal and great service

Right on the Waterfront's harbour, Sevruga offers an extensive sushi menu as well as a la carte menu. I've only ever had good experiences here. The all-day sushi special platters are great and the cocktail list is extensive. Generally good service. Recommended that you book.

Beautiful setting, but the food is average, had the ocean plate main, the prawns were not very tasty, mussels were laughable and the fish urgh. The sushi was even worse. Really disappointing.
Sara Lohmaier
Average service, Average sushi, Average cocktails, Big bill. Won't be back.

The food took forever to arrive, the sushi was small, tasted meh and even with their "special price" I didn't think the plates were worth it, and my pinacolada tasted of waaaaaay too much coconut syrup or whatever they put into those synthetic tasting cocktails.

Came here for half price sushi on Sunday. The sushi was great as usual the ambience was good too. Service was quite slow because it was very busy. Otherwise our waiter was very friendly and attentive.
Colleen Samuels
Left a very good taste in my mouth. Excellent service. Impeccable meals. Salmon was done to perfection. Ambience was on point. Great experience overall. Well done

Sevruga is the bomb dot com. I came here for dinner with a friend, Phila Goduka, and got 5 star treatment from an amazing service team. These guy are underrated in my opinion especially compared to their sister restaurant, Beluga. Their stunning location, excellent food (I'm coming for that new menu made by a Michelin-starred chef), great ambiance and outstanding staff makes any meal here an absolute pleasure. I recommend that everyone try this place out at least once.

What a terrible experience. 😡 Went for Sunday lunch, firstly we had a reservation and had to wait 15 minutes in the waiting area. Then finally we were seated at our table. Our waiter comes and take our order and to save time we give him our drinks and food order together. A hour passes and not even the starter has arrived. The manager comes over to our table and apologizes that our order was sent to another table but it would be with us shortly. After 15 minutes we decided to get up and leave and after all the inconvenience the manager makes a dumbest comment that he would've done the same. He wasn't even prepared to compensate us for the water. Such a waste of a nice sunny day with such pathetic service. Would never return again!!!
Sultan Mehairi
Amazing food overall especially the dim sum and the grilled calamari the negative thing is we had to wait 15-20 mins for them to get the bill.

My wife and I occasionally frequent the Sevruga and Beluga restaurants.

We used our entertainer at sevruga on the main menu sushi before without any issues. Tonight we went there, had exactly the same sushi meal but were only notified on payment that the entertainer is NO LONGER valid on sushi.

Now I do not wish to make a mountain of a molehill. I feel this is a principle that is completely unacceptable for a number of reasons:

1. We had the sushi on the entertainer a few months before without any problem.
2. We were never notified by the Restaurant or waitress of any changes.
3. Nowhere did it state on the main menu that the entertainer was no longer valid.
4. The sushi menu is still on the entertainer app.

Now apart from the arrogant manager that handled this matter with complete inexperience and an utter disregard for customer service. He insisted that we paid full price! The food simply is not worth paying full price for. It is sad that a restaurant like this is willing to put people off ever supporting them again for a R175 saving.

Take your money and go spend it at a great sushi restaurant like Willoughby &co.

I will not put foot in any of the two restaurants again.

Rude manager

unacceptable change of terms and conditions that customers are not aware of

sub- par food!

Thank you!
Went there for lunch today. Our waitress Faith was awesome. We had oysters and calamari for starters... 10/10. Had fillet steak for mains... the fillet was 9/10, the cut was great but we couldn't really taste the difference between the chimchurri vs. Xo basting. The manager Emiraat was great and engaged with us. It's our first steak in CT after a month holiday in Asia, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Really good sushi and at such a good price (half price when you get there before 7pm or all day on Sunday). My favourite is the seared tuna salad! The accompanying sauce and the loads of avo makes it a go-to order whenever I am here.

Love the seasonal menus too, but their sister restaurant (Beluga) does the main dishes and desserts better in my opinion. Their dim sum is also not too authentic. Stick to the sushi here.

Update: returned today for lunch and opted for the sashimi salad with a side of sushi rice, as I was not sure whether I wanted salmon or my go-to seared tuna salad. The salad has shrunk in size and I’m not sure if it’s because I ordered the sashimi one... 😢. My friend ordered the red plate with all salmon and thoroughly enjoyed her dish though.

My boyfriend and I went on a lunch date here on a sunny Saturday. We were very happy with our meals. The complimentary bread was divine. He had the truffle fillet which comes with cannelloni, one of his favorites, although his portion of fillet was generous, normally there are 2 cannellonis and potato crisps and this time only 1 cannelloni and no potatoes, perhaps they changed the menu a bit. I had the Norwegian salmon with roast veg and a side of chips, wow it was delicious! Cooked perfectly with a yummy herb crust. It was not too full and the waiter and staff were friendly. Will definitely go back.

The sushi and the calamari dishes were delicious !! From the presentation to the taste of the food , it was really worth every cent. The service did lack a bit , I waited for a while before getting my food . But other than that , the food was really good and Sevruga is such a warm and cosy restaurant that mainly seafood lovers can enjoy.

What a bad experience!

Entertaining colleagues from around the country and taking them to Sevruga was a bad choice.

2 hour wait for your food, Cold food, over charged, exceptionally rude manager and what you order is not what you get. Walking out feeling unwelcome and a waste of a Dinner out.
Marcel Malherbe
Came here with high expectations. Badly disappointed. 2 hour wait on food .. poor excuses from management.

Tuna was good. Everything else poor. Avoid this tourist trap at all costs

It was my birthday last week Friday so we went to Sevruga for dinner. It was a warm inviting experience and my Truffle fillet was amazing! I would recommend this place to anyone!
Siyavuyamakubalo2
Amazing service from the minute you walk in.

I ordered the lamb shank and it was absolutely divine and would recommend it to anyone who loves food like I do.
The Chowing Bunnies
I've eaten here many a time, mainly for the sushi and cocktail special.

Every day, 12 to 6pm, dim-sum, sushi and cocktails are half price! The dim sum are great and the Bellini cocktail is amazing! The sushi is okay, not mind blowing, but given the beautiful setting and good price during half price hours, I'd definitely recommend Sevruga!

Attentive waiter - nice ambiance - good fusion of fine but casual dining. No complaints from the party of 4 - ps yummy yummy dim sum (my kryptonite!!) Will definitely be back.

Today I went to Sevruga with my family for lunch and it was a pleasant experience. Service was good and once we placed our orders we had to wait +- 15 minutes for our food to arrive. The waitress was helping and friendly towards us. The food was delicious. I ordered the baby calamari. The only reason I scored them down in my raring is because my dad's meal was slightly undercooked and had to send it back. Other than that I recommend Sevruga as a good place for lunch!
Carmen Abrahams
Fantastic service. Excellent food. Perfect views, great place to celebrate. Not cheap, but definitely worth every penny. A wonderful dinning experience, that one can easily return to again and again.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, obviously a special night. When we got there, they seated us on a table next to a super busy and tight passage as well as next to where the waiters and waitresses get cutlery etc. I told the hostess, and she told me she would try and make a plan. I would be OK with this because the restaurant was busy, BUT I specifically booked for outside a week in advance and confirmed the day before. After trying to get someone else to move us to another table whilst waiting half an hour for our drinks, they finally seated us outside. We took the 2-course set menu - it was OK. Great location, but not going back.

A Japanese love affair

By far one of my all time favorites. I have frequented Sevruga roughly for 6 years and I can honestly say that they never disappoint.

Staff here are exceptionally well trained, skilled, knowledgeable, and well presented.

My favorite dishes are the duck, honey, ginger
potstickers, the lamb and XO sauce potstickers, the salmon crunch, salmon roses, spicy salmon california rolls and salmon sashimi.
The food is always fresh, bursting with flavor, and it is delivered within record time. Their cosmopolitans, pina colada, bellini passion fruit, caipirinha, lets not even START on the white chocolate martini, WOW, are some of the best that you will find and the most important aspect of this is that their sushi, dimsum and cocktails are on 50% discount between 12h00 and 19h00 Monday to Saturday and 12h00 to close on Sunday. So you get quality food at half the price. It's a no brainer, book Sevruga for your next luncheon!

Overview:

- Great view of waterfront
- Exceptionally well trained, well groomed, knowledgeable staff
- Seating area for business and pleasure
- Great for functions and group catch ups
- Quality food
- Value for money
- Specials that are a steal
- Consistency

Beautiful restaurant all round. The prices were reasonable, although they were doing special prices at the time. We had sushi, and the portion sizes were so good that we both could only finish half of what we were given. Good atmosphere, nice decor, the only reason I'm taking off a point is because the other diners were rather loud and we could hear the manager shouting orders at the staff... she runs a tight ship and it shows
Upasna Maharaj
A friend and I went out for half-price sushi. We were not disappointed. Greeted by friendly, attentive staff, elegant decor and mindblowingly scrumptious sushi, we ate until we could eat no more. I highly recommend this lovely restaurant to sushi lovers!

I had my birthday dinner here and I must say I was really impressed. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and really looked after us as we were a table of 10. Our food was on time, even though we were a large group, the cocktails were very tasty and not forgetting the sushi🙂🙂 Definitely one of my favorite restaurants, anything from Sushi to grills to desserts, they can pull off anything💯

Sevruga is the Capetonian favorite for sushi, dumplings and cocktails. The service is decent and so is the food. Nothing exceptional but worth the money.
Elodie Bonnefon
Excellent location, amazing food and good service. We had crayfish, fillet and Argentinian prawns. It was delicious. Desserts were a bit disappointed, too sweet.
Samantha Taylor
We enjoy going here, sushi is good but the portions of the food is very small.. although it's a pretty setting and view. I would go again but not in a hurry

Sevruga really went over and above what was expected of them today! Apart from the delicious food, cocktails and excellent service - they overheard it was my sisters birthday and brought her a desert and a complimentary bottle of wine. Customer service at its best :)
Chuma Khumalo
Been here a number of times. Food is always amazing. Found today's waiter a bit less attentive than usual even though it wasn't that busy but overall we had a great lunch
Gustav Neethling
Just had lunch here. Service is sharp and ambiance soulful. Had sushi for starter and was good. Treated us to some tuna and kingklip for mains - both very enjoyable. Will come back for the deconstructed key lime pie #NoSpace

The service here was great!!!

For Starters I tried the Calamari with Peanut sauce and it was different, yet very nice.
Main I had the deboned ribs which I was not impressed with at all, it was fatty and there was a blob of something beneath the ribs that left a horrible texture in my mouth, the basting was decent. Way to many onion rings in the plate also.

Their deserts were amazing! I tasted the lemon meringue, mousse and Vanilla brûlée and all of it was delicious.

The Chocolate Mousse was very rich yet it got everyone making the foodgasm sounds.

My boyfriend and I are regulars at Sevruga but sadly after today, we won't be back. They've hired a new chef and the quality of the food has taken a bit of a dive. My boyfriend always orders the sashimi salad which used to be shredded cucumber, lettuce, carrot and lots of sashimi. Now they literally take a massive ball of iceberg lettuce and drape shredded cucumber over it with a few skimpy pieces of sashimi and charge R95. Dressing also did not arrive with the salad. I ordered bam bam rolls, the cucumber around it was so thick I had to cut some away in order to eat it. When we asked the manager what was going on, she proceeded to try and blame my boyfriend for not reading the menu when the menu doesn't describe the above. Then she tries to say that he should have then checked the picture in the menu, basically trying to shift the blame onto us. Completely unacceptable! So disappointed...

This place surprised me, it looked fancy but a typical touristy Waterfront hangout. I ordered a sushi roll as an appetizer and the Kingklip fish as my main. Both items were extremely delicious. The service was also on point.

I had a great experience at Sevruga the other evening.
Great selection of food considering its more known for its sushi.

Fantastic fresh bread while we waited.

Great selection of interesting cocktails during happy hour special. Had the wild berry Brumble and the blood orange coconut mojito

Ordered the Tandoori ostrich fillet. Slightly@ disappointed with the size but was an extremely tasty and succulent steak. Very impressed

Will definitely be back.

A friend and I enjoyed their sushi and dim sum special one hot afternoon and I can highly recommend it! The service is fantastic, the dim sum was flawless and the sushi much enjoyed.
Great value for money and a nice spot looking into the water.
Suchismita Simhadri
Beautiful ambience..busy place in V&A Waterfront. They have their sushi specials everyday. Loved the quality of the sushi and the sashimi. also the risotto balls were really delicious. Will definitely go again in my next trip to CT.
Tracy-lee Splinter
I ordered a salmon handroll, the prawn and coriander wonton and the spicy peanut and chicken pot stickers. The handroll was not as crispy as I like it and the pot sticker lacked flavour. The wonton on the other hand was delicious.
I ordered the summer cooler cocktail which was so refreshing!
The staff at sevruga are so friendly and it is such a pretty restaurant.

The half price sushi, cocktails and dim sum special is
really such a treat, however they are already quite expensive on the menu and you end up paying what you would normally pay for good sushi and cocktails

Went out for our post-Valentine's Dinner and had some Really amazing sushi 🍣🍙 a lovely night out! The service was a bit slow but the food made up for it in the end 🥂
Simira
We had a lovely Valentine's Day dinner here! The food was great and our waiter was very helpful and always tried to go the extra mile (thanks Greg)!! We had dim sum and sushi for starters- I especially recommend the Lamb and XO! The sushi is, in my opinion, too bland, but nonetheless tasty! Our mains had an intense WOW factor from the first bite! And the chocolate fondant is to for! We topped it with some tea and coffee martinis! An evening WELL spent! Thank you!

Great service, great food, great atmosphere.

I know that I stared this review off in a rather cliche way, however, those works honestly describe my experience at Sevruga.
Sitting down at a beautifully white table, overlooking the harbour, and seeing the occasional boat come past, is such an amazing atmosphere in which to enjoy a nice lunch. I was greeted by friendly staff, and our waitress was amazing, she was there whenever we needed something, and she made sure we were taken care of, both in terms of our food, and our overall enjoyment!
Now let's get to the amazing part - the SUSHI! Honestly, wow! I had sushi that had tempered prawn, and was tempered again afterwards, but just enough, so it wasn't too crunchy - it was just right, and I would go back just for this one dish.
We only ordered sushi, but looking around, I saw some amazing meals go past, to neighbouring tables, and would definitely want to try these in the near future!
Sevruga, well done!

One of the best resturants in the Waterfront. Warm welcome by host firstly promptly followed by the waiter.Food is top notch.I had the Snow Dragon Sushi roll which is wonderful and previously ate the Spicey Prawn reloaded roll and chicken Cha Siu Baau equally as good. The meat/ steak is well prepared according to your preferance.
At times the wait can be a bit long for your order but the atmosphere of the resturant makes up for it.
Waiters are professional, polite and attentive. They know the menu very well and their recommendations are usually spot on. The also offer takeaways if you in a rush. Half price sushi in the week aswell.

Great environment!

Loved the waiter and the food!
Will definitely return!
Plus is near a great Shopping Mall and Leisure!

Definitely one must visit restaurant!

Note: The opinion above was inserted when I finished the meal and drinks but before I leave something happened. A big rat showed up between the bottles of wine that were surrounding us a part of decoration. That was disappointing and created some concerns about the food.

I love the setting of Sevruga at the waterfront when I have been able to sit outside which looks onto the harbour. I always enjoy their sushi and the fresh bread they bring to your table is delicious with some balsamic vinegar, olive oil and salt. They run specials on their sushi which makes it very affordable at certain times which is great for such an exclusive location.
Tiyaarah Cloete
Sevruga is decent. Expensive if you don't use the entertainer, I don't think the food is that great. They still have the sushi and dim sum special. I had their new Karan beef - it wasn't as great as described.
Resh Nel
Always great service.
Great setting overlooking the harbor.
Well worth it during their 'half price' sushi, dimsum and cocktail special times.
Sashimi salad is by far the best thing on the menu unlike anything else you can find in Cape Town.
Lamb XO pot stickers are delicious too.

So we decided to go to this well known and popular fine dinning restaurant to treat ourselves . Ordered Kingklip and Langoustines as one main course. And then the truffle fillet as the second main. We were so disappointed. Ordered the fillet medium rare( asked for more on rare side) it Came completely over cooked. Even though you could smell the truffle, the dish was lacking in flavor. The langoustines were so small, almost size of an Argentinian prawn. They told us that they have been struggling to get langoustine for a while now. Honestly i feel they are catering for tourists and is over rated. Food was a complete let down. Also the food was served VERY fast. Like within 7minutes of placing the order..Almost as if they have some plates prepared? Would rather try the sushi next time.
Sam Wood
We came here simply for the dim sum, which were amazing. The service was great and I felt we got good value for our money. The noble nomad red wine is also great, and very affordable.
