Review Saigon Vietnamese Restaurant - Cape Town Central

Elzette van Tonder
What a fabulous place with good food and service. Thank you to our Waiter, Christian for serving us in such a professional manner and explaining in detail what we asked him. He suggested dishes and we absolutely loved everything. Thank you so much for a good experience!!! 5⭐️ service!!!

HOLY F One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Cape Town!! Service was slow but the tasty food made up for it. The drinks are very reasonably priced and the food is incredible. I ordered the crispy ginger fish, GET IT. It’s one of the best things on the menu. We also ordered the lamb dumplings, Tom yum soup and the basil chicken without rice. Definitely recommend getting the basil chicken with rice because it’s very saucy but super tasty. I had a margarita as my drink and it was okay the food was the highlight. The dumplings were so nice and the Tom yum soup the best I’ve had in Cape Town. I will 200% be back. Didn’t take many pictures of the interior but managed to get some shots of the food. We had the fried banana as dessert and it was 8/10. Highly recommend Saigon

Saigon Restaurant truly impressed me with its exceptional dining experience. The pho-bo soup and sushi rolls were delicious. The attentive service provided by the waiter further enhanced my meal, making it a memorable and delightful dinner..

Delicious food, great service. I enjoyed the vast menu and the different tastes. It was an overall great experience

Had wonderful taste like home 🏡 💕 my friends and I really really enjoyed the food, we had pho traditional, eel sushi was the best 👌, bao, calamari for starter, fried bananas with ice cream for dessert.

What a feast. There is so much delicious food to choose and so many things to try. Your mouth salivates as you read the menu. So order with the size of your stomach in mind, not with your eyes. Our waiter Bongani was amazing. He handled a big group with attention to detail, always accurate and fast service. Impressive. The food was delicious. The Pho Bo was my favourite. I ordered the “Western” portion which is half of the Asian portion which is a full portion. Both these were big. I also had dim sum, calamari, prawns and salmon. But they have an array of mean proteins like lamb and pork and also offer sushi. Even when the lights went off? Dinner continued. Just in a more cozier setting.

Another great visit .. still renovating the place but the food was still amazing . Had the fillet in soy .. so tender and juicy . Friends had great prawns and fish .
Happy Space
One of the best Asian restaurants in Cape Town!! Make reservations as the place gets busy. The food is very authentic and delicious and the quantity is very generous. Especially the individual serving of soup comes in a bowl that is good enough for two people. We had miso soup, chicken with basil and chicken in yellow curry and vegetables in yellow curry. All delicious! Service may be a little slow…but this is what we noticed in general in Cape town. Highly recommend this place.

Thoroughly enjoy them every single time! Friendly parking assistant, with more than enough parking allocated to Saigon, amazing staff and beautiful food!
Gideon Rademeyer
Not sure how authentic it is,but food was fairly good. Good service. Bit on the pricey side but that is to be expected in Town. The deep fried ice cream with nuts and honey is one of the best deserts I have every had.
Michelene Arendse
Saigon certainly did not disappoint! We were very lucky to be able to get a table as it's very busy lunchtime. The sushi was delicious! The beef fried noodle was packed with flavour.
Simona Marinkova
Excellent and friendly service, delicious food. Definitely recommend!

Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Great for lunches. Had a lunch date with my siblings and sat for about four hours. Our waiter was kind and very prompt.
Monique Meder
A meal at Saigon is always delicious. I always try something new for a starter but one main dish keeps bringing me back! The service is great - and quite speedy. I tried sushi here for the first time - it was fresh and the portions were generous, as they are for all the other dishes. I can't wait to go back for the ginger prawns again

A delightful find in Cape Town. We were looking for any Vietnamese restaurant and our hope was low. We arrived late with three kitchen closing in less than 10 minutes. The restaurant was still crowded. The service was super. Most importantly the food was delicious, fresh, and flavorful. We ordered Beef sizzling and steamed fish. We decided to come back the second time while we still have time in Cape Town. This time wee ordered the mushroom salad, steamed fish again, the crispy ginger fish. Our waiter was super friendly and responsive. The salad was a balanced mix and fresh. The crispy ginger fish was another great choice. Overall we'd definitely come here again.

Always wanted to try out but haven't had opportunity until now. Food was great. So many options it's hard to commit. Starter and main course were amazing. Table of 9 and everyone was happy with their food. Worked out a bit on the pricey side so not a regular spot but definitely worth the try.

Amazing Vietnamese restaurant with a great tasting Pho. I highly recommend it. The pork belly was so well made and everything was just perfect. Staff was friendly and food was quick. Ambience is awesome and lots of food to choose from. The only down side is that rice needs to be ordered as an extra but it should be included in the meals. There is a designated parking for the restaurant so that’s always a plus. Definite recommend.

What a pleasure to finally have dinner at this iconic restaurant. It was busy so booking is strongly recommended. Per the waiter’s recommendation, we ordered a couple of starters to share and then proceeded to share some of the mains as well. Almost everyone finished off with the deep-fried ice-cream. The food was really delicious and the service top-notch. Can’t wait to come again.

This place keeps us coming back. On a cold and rainy Friday evening in October we visited one of our favorite eateries in Cape Town. The service was fast and efficient even despite the place being packed. The menu at first glance may not seem extensive but you’ll soon find yourself lost in a world of choice. Don’t worry though your waiter will be able to guide you on this culinary quest and dare I say you can almost pick anything at random and enjoy a great meal. The wine list is not extensive but carters for the majority of tastes and compliments the food. The menu has everything you can hope to find and your choices starters and mains are abundant. The dessert menu is limited and although I do not have a bad thing to say about it, I would not have any since I ate my fill completely on the other two courses. I would implore anyone with a fancy or Love for Asian cuisine to come to this place as you will be amazed at the mastery of flavor and taste.

The food at Saigon is incredibly flavorsome and the service is always exceptional. I eat from the restaurant regularly and will continue to return for a long time to come. Highly recommend it!
Monique Swart
We always have the best meals here. Such flavoursome, delicious food with attentive service! One of my favourites. Try the oxtail- out of this world!
Monarda Ackermann
...service a bit slow yesterday afternoon and we where told they have no pork belly because it was sold out the previous day...but an hour later a group op 8 people came to sit and was served pork belly...also a bit expensive, but the food was great!!!
Ann-Christine Baetge
I went to Saigon about a month ago and it was just great. The food was amazing. From the starter to the desert! The staff was friendly too and very attentive and didn't mind making recommendations. Will definitely come again.
Cheryl Sadie
Very good variety of food, quality was superb. Attended a private party on the roof, and the service was excellent.
Beverley Fischer
Yes I am biased and have eaten there consistently for 19 years and I can honestly say it is my favourite restaurant. Chef My is creative and a brilliant Chef.

Great food & ambience . I love Saigon I've visited the Joburg one many times & it's always a treat
Jackie Pool Thompson
Exceptional food and service! I'll be back on my next visit to Cape Town in April.
Katherine Forsythe
Bad service, underwhemling food, over priced. Won't be back.
Kate Jones
 That meal Gorgeous

Being a vegetarian options are limited but nonetheless those items are tasty and quick service. Would come back for sure on my next trip to Cape Town.
Lisa Schröder
Delicious food and excellent service
Tanja Engelbrecht
Amazing food, cocktails, service!!! Will be back soon!
Neels Van Rooyen
Excellent Asian cuisine, great service. Highly recommended.

Love, love, love this restaurant! Even though the menu is slightly reduced during lockdown, we had no trouble finding delightful dishes to tantalise our tastebuds. Will definitely be back

SAIGON CAN DO NO WRONG IN MY EYES 😍 firstly, don’t even try go there without ordering the spinach cream cheese har gau they are life changing! Everything from their stir fry and curry to their sushi is perfection and I’ve never ever had a bad experience... would happily eat there everyday for the rest of my life
Micaela Beaumont
I seldom sit in this restaurant, but the times that I have has always been a pleasure. The food is amazing! They’re not shy with their portions. Perfect for a date night!

One of the best Thai restaurants in Cape Town. Decor. Beautiful.
Staff. Amazing
Cocktails. Really good.
Food. Amazing!
Really enjoyed the fried ice cream. Lots of options on the menu
Solovjanovdennis
Had absolutely great meals. The ginger prawns and chilli cashew prawns were amazing. Just order the mild if you not a fan of the heat. 😉.

Professional, friendly waiters and the runners are amazing, always keeping the tables clear, neat, clean and presentable throughout the evening.

For good stir fry, this is the place to be in Town. Just be prepared for a lively and fun evening as it’s not the quietest place if that’s what you are looking for. All in highly recommended.
Ilyaas A. Mayet
I enjoy eating here when I’m in Cape Town. The staff are friendly and helpful and very attentive.

The prawn toast is good as well as the sizzling beef and chicken and basil stir fry. I would recommend ordering two portions of noodles for two people as it isn’t too much for one person as they try and tell you.
Francois De Beer
First time here. The space made me wonder about how we are going to be seated, but was seated on nice out of the way table. Now the menu is good looking but boy the prices are a bit steep for the local okes. But .....the food Omw was so worth the bit extra in price. Portion size looked small but side dishes of very flavourful egg fried rice and noodles, satisfied completely! Flavours were incredible! I will consider it for a next visit. Great wine list btw

Ate there with the family last night. Enjoyed their delicious food. Their wok-fried calamari was a winner. Also had prawn dumpling, trio of mushroom crystal roll served in peanut sauce and spring rolls which were good. For main course, we had the beef chilli hot plate and bbq duck which didn't disappoint - loved every morsel. Also nice was their duck fried rice. Could still work more or be creative on the dessert selection. We had deep fried ice cream, vietnamese coconut flan and deep fried banana which most asian restaurants already serve. Our waiter was attentive, helpful and friendly. It was a lovely experience altogether.
Phoebe Kondylis
One of the best Thai restaurants in Cape Town. There is a reason it has been around for so long. The menu is large and full of options and the food never disappoints. The staff are friendly and always accommodating.
Gabriel Hair
One of the best Asian restaurants in Cape Town! It has an extensive menu, curry and sushi to die for! Nice for special occasions or casual dinners! Generally free parking outside but be sure to book on the weekends!
Zee
Went to Saigon for my anniversary and really enjoyed the veg spring rolls! It was delish. My boyfriend had the beef basil chilli with garlic fried rice and he loved it. I had the chicken noodles and I didn’t really like the chicken, tasted a bit strange to me. I think my boyfriend had more of my food than I did. I would def go back and try out more dishes, just not chicken this time.

Second time at Saigon. This time we tried it out in the evening. Beautiful ambience. Good acoustics. We had booked a corner table so we had a perfect & private view of the restaurant. We decided to try a range of dishes knowing that Vietnamese fusions are a treat. The speciality crystal rolls with trio mushroom & prawn.. super fresh & the peanut dipping sauce is heavenly. The wok fried calamari with chilli garlic sauce was the ultimate favourite, with the prawn toast coming a close second. The egg rice and chicken skewers were tasty but not anything special and the tempura veg was also nothing to write home about - the soy dip is needed otherwise quite bland in flavour. If you are not a fan of fish sauce DO NOT order the caramelised pepper pork. It is exceptionally pungent & unexpectedly "fishy" in flavour & fragrance. We ended up sending it back as it was unappetising to an unprepared pork expectant pallet. The experience was handled well though & it was removed from our bill. We ordered the crispy duck spring rolls instead which were pleasant. The hoisin sauce is sticky, rich & tasty. All in all a good experience. Staff are very attentive & friendly and we will be back for the crystal rolls, the wok calamari and the prawn toast for sure.

Brilliant service followed with amazing Vietnamese styled dishes, I can definitely recommend the spring rolls. All round a great evening at Saigon !
Emily Boolsen
The atmosphere is pretty good and it’s always packed. Attentive and friendly waiter. However, the food differs from actual food one gets in Vietnam but it’s the closest you’ll get to authentic Vietnamese food in Cape Town 👍
Our starters arrived at different times, my boyfriends starter arrived around ten minutes after everyone else’s but they did give it to us for free in the end so it’s all good 💅
Yajna Gold
The ambience here is lovely and so are he martinis! I recommend the glass noodle with tofu and veg. For starters go for the prawn toast which is very nice so is the wok fried calamari
Morgan
One of those old school classics in Cape Town. Really good dim sum and fried rice. The tofu dishes are also delicious! You can definitely find better sushi elsewhere and it’s a bit of an older crowd but good food nonetheless!
Yi Yuan Syer
Very average dining experience, they are definitely not bad but......sort of disappointed. Must had higher hope. The pho is.....errr, the soup is okay but there is too much sugar in it which is not necessary, also the rice noodle, they break when picking up. Skewers are okay but average, got quite a lot of stuff come with it like rice noddles and veggies. The basil cocktail is very odd, it’s like a strawberry daiquiri mixed with basil with a leaf floating on top. This restaurant is definitely NOT wheelchair friendly, very small entrance followed with two steps. Very very small rest rooms. It is.....trying to be exotic but not authentic. The decor is also very average, it looks a bit dated not sure when was the last revamp. Rooms to improve.

Finally made it to Saigon after a whole year of driving past it! Love the interior, it’s cosy and inviting and the view of table mountain is amazing! The service was splendid, our waiter answered about 50 questions on every menu item because we’d never eaten Vietnamese food!
I wasn’t too hungry so I had the prawn and veggie rice paper rolls with a peanut dipping sauce! My word it was so simple but delicious! My friend had the lamb dim sum which was also incredible! Can’t wait to go back and try the pho bowls and that peanut dipping sauce again.
Samantha Dos Santos
Delicious food! And Great service! Driven past this so many times and at last got to taste. Restaurant was packed and we were attended to nicely. At first they made a fuss about adding an extra person to our table but we squeezed! Pricing is slightly expensive but had a good tine!
Chanel Fivaz
This is by far my favourite Asian resturant in terms of Authenticity In flavour. The fresh Ingredients and generous portions makes for a delicious feast. If the food wasn't good enough, our table had a clear view of Table Mountain! The staff are welcoming and efficient, our waiter was honest with recommendations and took the time to explain our meals. Definitely one of Cape Town top resturants.
Sineadnataliebyrne
Wonderful food. Prompt service. Amiable waiter. Lovely atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for something a little out of the ordinary .
Catharina
I was told before that Saigon can get quite expensive and my friends didn’t lie. However, all the food on our big table was utterly delicious. The tom yum prawn soup was a hit and the pho was lovely (the medium pho is actually big enough for a main meal).
I had the Colony beef and it was fantastic! The very angry duck was hot but not too angry if you’re into hot food.
If you’re into Asian food it’s definitely worth a visit but make sure you have enough money at the end of your month.
Service was good and a great view of the mountain too.
Giorea1984
Fish was really good and that’s the only reason for the 3. Rest of the meal really average and service not attentive at all. Considering the prices I was expecting more
Cpreller02
I have never had a bad meal at Saigon. The food is extremely tasty. Service is generally very good. I usually have the box calamari with cilantro sauce - amazing starter & Chef Mi’s pork ribs - they are my favorite ribs in Cape Town glazed with ginger & lime. Other dishes to try is their Pho Soup & crispy ginger fish.
Bianca
Food was absolutely delicious and the ambience was great. Service was excellent. Only critique would be that soft music in the background was missing and would have added a nice element to the evening.
Chelyn De Graaf
Been told it's amazing?? I need to choose new friends it seems?? 😂 went more than a hand full of times to really try see what people are seeing here?? Food more than below average .. order a tuna salad get the ENTIRE lettuce farm and play spot the tuna ... was like a game 🙈😂 also every time it's like the chefs forget to use seasoning and replace the taste with copious amount of oil?? Cocktails?? You mean juice and alcohol right?

Update: returned on a hot summers day for Asian ‘tapas’. Ordered salmon maki rolls, fresh prawn salad rolls and steamed pork&prawn dim sum.

The sushi is good, not amazing though (but I already have my favourite sushi places in CPT which are hard to beat). The prawn salad rolls were delish and the satay peanut sauce served with it was absolutely gorgeous. The star of the meal was definitely the dim sum. Oh my sweet Canton!!! Definitely on par with what I’ve had in Asia.

There’s so many items on this menu that I want to try out and will definitely be returning for more!

Review 1: It was cold, I was craving pho bo, and there's no better place to go than to Saigon! Served with fresh herbs, like the Vietnamese traditionally do. So so close to the real deal!!
Gabi
This was my second time at Saigon after I enjoyed the first so much. The spring rolls, spinach dumplings and pork potstickers were all amazing. I was a little disappointed with the main after I asked if it was possible for it to be made without chili and then had it arrive too spicy for me to eat. Other than that, the service was great and my partner really enjoyed his main.
Umai
I had a wonderful dining experience from the warm service to the scrumptious dishes.Their vegetarian options were so delicious and thought out . I Would definitely go there again.

What was meant to be a really nice dinner between myself and the girlfriend didn't turn out that nice... She ordered sushi and I ordered colony beef, a table of 8 had placed their mains order after we did. What would you know the sushi arrived and was told my meal would come soon, then said table of 8 received all their food but still nothing for me. Some time goes by and still no food, the girlfriend proceeds to eat as she is starving eventually finishes her food to the point where she is stuffed. At this point still no food... In summary we both ate but got to twirl our thumbs while watching the other eat their food, yay what a fun dinner!

I was let down by the staff as a whole tonight.
Troy Horrell
Really enjoyed what the Chef cooked us. Delightful ambience! Dim Sum was spectacular and the sweet and sour prawns was one of the best seafood dishes I have ever eaten shall definitely be returning!
Trancat57
We order Pho a traditional Vietnamese soup, we rate 2/5. Only 1 kind of meat, no coriander, no basilic, soup is too dark any taste of Pho, it was not authentic Vietnamese. Resto clean, nice Service is great.

Living right around the corner from Saigon is going to be an issue in the future. Being the ultimate Asian food lover, having Saigon so close means constant cravings.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is very welcoming, particularly thanks to the staff. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and dimly-lit, which I really like.

We started with potstickers, which were incredible. I love how simple and full of flavor they are.

For mains, I had the basil chili beef (a firm favourite) and it was delicious! The rest of the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The food is so brilliantly prepared and extremely authentic. I actually cannot wait to try more of the menu.

They say third time lucky trying this place... How this place has an average of 4.1 rating blows my brain cells away 😂 do Saigon secretly pay people to review their poor excuse for food ?? One stop shop at the blind .. order a tuna and avo ...salad get a mountain of horrible lettuce I wouldn't feed to a homeless vegetarian , with a hint of avo if you blink you will miss it ... the reason chopsticks are presented on the table was to use them to play games as to who can spot the avo.. 😂 if you catch my drift the tuna also hasn't drifted in a while it was as old and my grandmothers socks 🤦🏼‍♀️ 😂 thank god for the trusted yummy le motte red wine to ease the pain of my journey I had tonight 💁🏼👌🏻

I've been to Saigon every time I landed in Cape Town. Their menu is big enough to never seem boring. Each plate delivers taste and freshness of ingredients. You can never go wrong with their fresh crystal rolls or their crispy ginger fish. But even ribs and stake makis are not to miss. Ending dinner with two quenelle of white and dark chocolate makes it a coronation of a very good dinner.
Jill Casserley
Excellent food, I've eaten at the one in Johannesburg and the other sister Restuarants they are all good. Worth every penny. Authentic dishes full of flavour. Service is great.
Talia Lee Cohen
I haven't been here for a few years, but damn it has gotten good! The dumplings are light and well balanced flavours with their compliments! The sushi is quite spectacular! And I must mention the fantastic service, our host is a regular and I can see why! 👌 I'll upload the photos later
Francois Theron
Our dinner at Saigon did not live up to the restaurants good reputation unfortunately. Firstly, the cutlery placed onto the table had not been washed properly and still had leftover bits of food on the spoon.
The chicken cashew nut dish did not taste like chicken at all and was quite tasteless. Disappointing!
Karl-Luke Steinhagen
Though I have driven past Saigon many times and always thought that it's sign's design was similar to that of an exotic porno I was desperate for sushi in the immediate vicinity.

Turns out the food was stunning with the sushi having its own original style and taste, and the stir fry cashew was equally unreal. Our waiter was also a legend which always improves the all-round experience.

The food was SENSATIONAL ! The best Vietnamese restaurant by far! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was vibrant and extremely comfortable. The vegetable spring rolls are a "must try" from their starters and they make for a very interactive eating experience. The flavours and textures were so well-balanced and it is definitely a favourite. For main my boyfriend and I shared the ginger prawns, peppered prawns and a side of noodles. WOW, what a stunning meal it was that we came back for it not even a week later. Please please open up a Saigon in Pretoria 😍💛😩

From the outside you can't imagine what you are about to eat.
Very cozy environment, with a very Good service. The waiter explains you every option you want.
The dumplings are so tasty. The duck also! And If you don't want spring rolls because it is a "safe" choice, think again - very very Good!
Elle Mbadaliga
We managed to get a table last minute. I was really impressed by the quick service considering it was busy. We didn't have to sit around waiting to be attended to.

The food was amazing, best duck I've ever had. I have nothing bad to say. Keep up the good work. I will be going back soon

Saigon is top notch. Some people don’t like trying a pan-Asian restaurant because they feel it is neither here nor there but believe me – this place is here and there!

I’ve been here a couple of times and I think you should focus on the starters. Get five-six to share between two of you and you’re golden. The mains are also good but the entrée’s just blow be away every time. Such a delicious burst of flavour in every bite.

We had the golden chicken springrolls, the char-grilled chicken skewers and the lamb dumplings. We shared one main course which was the miso aubergine dish. Everything was cooked to perfection and all this while looking over our beautiful Table Mountain; what more could a foodie ask for?
Gabriel Stein
Wow, came here at 9pm and lucked out with finding a table. Kitchen was very quick in preparing our food, maybe because it was near closing time, but it was still amazing.

Chicken cashew was great and so was ALL the sushi and other food.

I highly recommend coming here.
Liezle Obermeyer
We didn't book a table, but they did tell us that they can help with a table, but we will have to be done by a certain time, so the booked table can have their table. I appreciated this, rather than being rushed along. We chose to sit upstairs instead, with no time limit. View is beautiful over the mountain. Cocktails and food was really good, really fresh, and was served within minutes. We then had the trio sorbet for dessert, yum. As vegans it is always amazing to find so many options for us on a normal menu. Service wasn't bad, but cannot compare it to the rest of the experience. Our waiter was an order taker, not once engaging or suggesting anything. Specials wasn't mentioned to us, not that we would be able to eat them anyway, but he didn't know that. I was listening to one waiter serving the table next to us, he was part of their experience, explaining, suggesting, and interacting. Nonetheless, we had a good evening

Saigon, while a bit more expensive than other Asian restaurants has a great selection of delicious dishes.
For starters, you have to try what they call the vegetable wrap sensation - it's quite fun to make and even more phenomenal to eat. Their wok beef is excellent, and if you still have room for dessert, try their decadent deep fried ice-cream.
Scarlett
One of best sushi I've tasted in a long time! Definitely a recommendation for an eat out or a take away.

A bit pricey though and the service was a bit long but otherwise if you enjoy sushi, get there now!
Karthik R (The OmegA Man)
Situated in the heart of Kloof street, this is the best Asian cuisine in the city. The angry duck is legendary, make sure to have it 'very angry' if you're feeling brave! The service and setting, needless to say, are excellent
Shauny D Foodie
Looove Saigon on Kloof. It really never goes old. Love the duck spring rolls for a starter and then the angry duck for main. It is the best vietnamese meal ever. So much taste and spices but so amazing. Slightly hot but you can ask for it to be done mild.
Conrad Jonck
The best spring rolls in town! Our dinner was amazing, the flavours were clean and fresh and well presented. The chocolate duo for dessert should not be missed.

My uncle was in town this weekend n gave me the task of picking the resturant.ive always wanted to try PHO the vietnamese noodle soup that saigon was the obvious choice.made a reservation during the week n come sunday my tastebuds were treated to an amazing experience.can i just say i tasted everything on the table n there were 4 of us.the rssturant is beautiful,a little on the fancy side but also very relaxed.i had the pho as a starter (medium bowl) n sushi as my main.the pho is so hearty n satisfying i cant even explain,i had 2 pieces of my sushi because i was so stuffed.has to be the freshest sushi ive had so far.my sister ordered the lamb dumplings for starters n porkchops for mains(the pork chop is huge,n it was cooked perfectly).my uncles date had the angry duck which for me was the best main at the table.soooooo much flavour!n my uncle had the steamed fish which wasnt all that exciting for me.but he liked it.the service left a lot to be desired we waited a long time for the food but it was worth it.all in all ill be back saigon!

Had a lovely dinner tonight at Saigon. The crispy ginger fish and the chicken chili ginger was to die for. We had garlic egg fried rice on the side. Would definitely recommend those two dishes. Service on the other end was quite disappointing. Our waiter seemed very disinterested and never checked on us once after serving us our food. When I requested a serviette I had to get another waiters attention. The only time we saw our waiter was at the end of the night when he served us the bill.

Walked in here looking to satisfy a food craving. My family and I were visiting and staying in More Quarters so Saigon was a natural choice.

We got off on the wrong foot as the Host refused to give us a table by the window because she says they were all reserved. The restaurant was only a quarter occupied and plenty of space by the windows for my party of 3. Not wanting to argue, we settled for a table in the back. She dropped the menus at our table and left without saying another word. We thought it was very rude and considered walking out but figured maybe she's just having a bad day. So we stayed.

Food itself: good selection of asian dishes. As an asian person i can say this place is more a mix of Asian food highlights. Dimsum is Chinese. sushi is japanese. Tom Yum is Thai. Some of The truly vietnamese things here are the crystal rolls and the pho. We found the food to be good enough and portioned alright. we ordered:

Tom yum - just ok
Crystal Roll Prawn veggie - ok
Tuna Avocado Salad - YUM!! Must order!
saigon beef cubes - a bit too peppery for my dad's taste but for me I found this to be good
Saigon fish - decent
Banana fritters - YuM!!

What also dampened our meal apart from the sour Hostess was the length of service. Our dessert took about 15mins to serve. This was mildly irritating. We were informed the kitchen was busy with a big takeout order. Oh. Sorry.

Way to make us feel special. I guess it's a busy night.
But wait. the window tables are still vacant....
Saigon is a great spot for date night 😀 I would recommend going at night because the lights are dim and its just a cozy atmosphere. They have great Vietnamese food and dim sum. I personally like the beef chilli hot plate and the spicy lamb potstickers.

One of my favourite restaurants all all time. Been coming here since I was a child and over the years the restaurant has gotten better, but still has the classic 'Saigon' feel . The menu is mainly Vietnamese, but has other Asian dishes as well, including a great sushi menu. The ambiance is brilliant, and the service is fabulous. Has the feel of a semi-formal restaurant if that makes sense, so you can pop by after work for a delicious dinner, or dress up on a saturday night and make it a more snazzy affair. The food is great, the prices are just right, and the venue is fab. They also do great martinis!
Maria Elvira Mariola
Superb meal, service and ambiance! Been here twice and not disappointed ❤️ Recommended for large and small groups or romantic outing. Coming back for surr!

Their Vegetable Wrap Sensation is still my favourite starter of all times. It could be the interactive aspect or the prospect of having bites of different combinations of flavours (you take a spinach leaf and fill it with varying quantities of peanuts, coconut flakes, crispy onion, ginger, chilli, lemon, bamboo, lemon grass and sweet & sticky chef's secret syrup, roll it and pop it in your mouth) that literally explode in your mouth, but either way I'll have it any day.

We've been for dinner a few times and always found it full. We also had to book to reserve a window tavle for a business lunch.

The restaurant decor and layout has an airiness to it which is complemented by the large windows overlooking the street with the spectacular mountain towering in the back.

Service ia always efficient and I remember having an in-seat neck massage while waiting for our food to arrive a couple of years ago!

The menu includes Vietnamese and other Asian dishes which are well priced for their flavours. We have never been disappointed.

I really enjoyed the food at Saigon. The dishes were fresh and delicious, and spicy as requested. I love sticky rice and really appreciated that you could order it as a side. The dishes are a bit pricey but are well worth it and portion size is decent. The dim sum are also really good and the dipping sauce pairs well. I found myself craving more and will definitely be back to try more on the menu.

One of my personal favourites but I am a fan of Vietnamese food 😀 Sleek interior located on the busty Kloof Street. There's an option of sushi. My favourite is the sizzling beef and cashew nut chicken- very tasty. Don't forget to add a side of rice or noodles. Service is good- never had a problem.

Went here last night for dinner for the first time - and what a treat! From start to finish, the service was impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was presented beautifully. To start, my partner and I each had miso soup and we shared the pork & prawn spring rolls. Interesting combination but delectable, light, and totally devoid of the fatty oil and flavours spring rolls are often known for. For my mains, I had the prawn chilli cashew nut with noodles - medium heat. It was sublime, although next time I'm eager to try the dish as 'hot' as the medium was rather mild. My partner had the angry duck with rice which he has had numerous times before, and which has never disappointed.

Oh my word- the speciality crystal rolls with peanut dipping sauce!! It is absolutely to die for! And if you like playing with your food (I do), order the pho bo soup. You assemble the soup yourself and it keeps you busy for a long time! The restaurant itself won't be winning any decor awards, so just focus on the food!

Was a bit disappointed in Saigon. Service was average and the duck was a let down - fatty and bloody. I did enjoy the beef and prawn dim sum and the cocktail. The parking space is easy but I wont go back in a hurry.

Saigon was lovely. The wife really wanted Pho, and so she did. It was my first time having it so it left me satisfied. We started off with duck spring rolls and siu mai. The spring rolls ended in 5 seconds they were so good. The siu mai was pretty dry, probably over steamed. The pho was delicious, however, I've had better since, now I have sonething to bench mark it against. The service was a tad bit slow, Saigon had a full house that evening. The decor by the kitchen looked pretty cool.

Overall, great place for causal dining, so-so Vietnamese experience.

I've been searching for some good Pho bo for what seems like ages. I've tried many places and they just didn't cut it! But guys, this is the place! THIS IS THE PHO! You've gotta try it.
This was my second time to Saigon and again I was so impressed with the service and the food.
Both times I went, it was really crowded but the waiters were always making sure you're okay and got everything on time.

Saigon is my regular go-to for pick-me-up Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine. I am completely taken by their crispy tempura vegetables, prawn toast and sushi platters. They make other amazing seafood and vegetable dishes, and everything I've tasted at Saigon is to die for!

An additional comfort thrown in when dining here is that there is designated parking for customers. It may cost an arm and a leg (well, R40 when I went there last), but everybody with a car understands the struggle to find secure parking on Kloof street! Also, service is always inviting and attentive. Make sure to try the sizzling fried banana or ice cream before you leave! Saigon policy is strict about lunch and dinner time, so book a table in advance to avoid being turned away at the door :)

Great restaurant. 'Build your own meal' pretty cool if you like wrapping food up in leaves. The beef dishes are pretty frikken insane. Haven't tasted beef like that in a long time

Today was a rare day - a day I dined at a near perfect restaurant. I love Asian food, so it should be no surprise that Saigon, the well established Vietnamese restaurant, would get a high result. I ordered one of my favourite dishes - sweet and sour pork. After waiting for a little while, both the chicken and pork sweet and sour dishes, which my table ordered, arrived. It was delicious with the rice I ordered. Both the chicken and pork was cooked well, and the sweet and sour sauce was full of flavour. After the friendly and enthusiastic staff cleared the table, I ordered deep fried banana with ice cream and honey - a very good decision I might add. This was a delicious dish I wish I had more of. The only downside to this place may be that it is often booked up and it is a bit pricey, but it is definitely well worth it. I insist you try this place - A+.

- With Kiara Beilinsohn

I recently went to Saigon for dinner and was blown away by the array of flavours that I experienced. The food was definitely some of the best Asian cuisine I have had so far in Cape Town. My friends and I were starving and went straight to the main meals which included: crispy ginger fish and...

I order exactly the same thing every single time I go to Saigon. I start with the prawn & vegetable crystal salad rolls. It's the most refreshing thing you can put in your mouth. Next I have the Colony beef with smokey beef noodles. The fillet melts in your mouth & the vegetables make you want to stay at the table until you've finished them. Sublime. And finally I have the Indochine Mousse. It's good to share because it's almost impossible to finish but the perfect texture & taste will complete the most amazing meal.

The service at Saigon is probably the best in Cape Town. You'll never feel crowded but they are available & efficient.

Went to Saigon last night, and had the best eating out experience I've had in a log time. We had a lovely seat right by the window with such a great view of the mountain. The service was flawless, friendly and so quick. The food was amazing and also so quick, we had edamame beans to share as a starter, they were perfectly steamed and seasoned. For mains we had BBQ duck breast which was beautiful and crispy with all the right flavors, my 500g pork chop was stunning tender and accompanied by 3 perfect squares of pork belly that honestly were the best I've ever had. Overall I was highly satisfied with Saigon and will definitely be back 👍🏼

We had a lovely meal. Good atmosphere in restaurant, friendly staff. Saigon Speciality Crystal Rolls with Peanut dipping sauce (Avo, rocket, shiitake mushrooms with prawns) was excellent! A definate must! The Angry Duck and Ginger Prawns was also bursting with flavour and taste.

This was the first time I had ever tried Vietnamese cuisine and I really enjoyed it. Very similar to Thai food, but not as tasty. For starters, we had vegetarian crystal spring rolls; these were very light and had a refreshing taste because of the mint. I wasn't too impressed with the battered vegetables, but the wok fried noodles were quite good - I just prefer a lot more flavor in my food. On the whole, the food was satisfying and the restaurant itself is very classy. Mikhil Valjee

1- three kind of cuisine...all good in the same place
2- dim sum superior and pork also...big portion, nice price
3- waiter with....HUGE memory, never take a note
4- never tested the Sashimi...looks like really nice, I'll back soon!!

Got a take-away for the first time in a while from Saigon. Apart from the crystal rolls, salty and terrible. The "crispy" pork tasted off, so we threw it away. Peanut sauce was pretty good though.

One time I tried to break up with somebody at Saigon, but then the food was really good and I wanted to share a platter with them, which meant that I couldn't conclude a relationship that had run its course without also seeming like a monster. Saigon's food is so good that it extended a toxic coupling far beyond its natural life-span. Granted, that wasn't without its negative consequences, but that's not Saigon's fault. Try the wood-ear mushroom salad.

We went to Saigon on a Friday night, which meant it was really busy. Service was a bit slow, and the waiters not very attentive, but the food was delicious. The restaurant has great views, but it is also quite loud, and a strange operatic song seemed to be playing on repeat in the background. I'm keen to go back on a less busy evening nonetheless.

Asian food at its best. This restaurant has never disappointed my wife and I over the past 6 years. Vibe is always great and always busy. Attention to food quality and Taste is impressive which makes this our favorite Asian restaurant in the City.

Saigon is a lovely restaurant in Gardens. They have a bunch of interesting Vietnamese dishes, but I enjoy their sushi most of all. They're a little pricy but their sushi is of exceptional quality, and I highly recommend their Rainbow Rolls. It's lovely sitting in the main dining area - a very charming space - but there's also a more private upstairs area that offers lovely iews.

We were treated to a Sunday night supper here recently and it was lovely!
I have been here before ( many years ago) and it feels like Saigon hasn't lost its charm. Service was super friendly and our waiter very knowledgable about the menu.
I had the pho bo for the first time and all I can say is YUM! How delicious!!
We will be back again for sure!

An impromptu decision led a group of us to Saigon for a late dinner. The staff were extremely accommodating and the service was really great.

We ordered a selection of dishes to share, but the favorites were definitely Crispy Ginger Fish and Half Roast Duck. I'd also give the steamed pork and water chestnut dumplings a go, they're amazing!

After living in Vietnam, this was by far the closest I could find to Vietnamese cuisine in South Africa - and I'll have you know it was damn close at that! Wow all the flavors, as well as the authentic Vietnamese chefs make this one special place that I would most certainly recommend, and if your budget doesn't allow you to travel the world then why not take your palate on an adventure!

I have never had a disappointing meal from Saigon. They serve Vietnamese/Asain food and also do sushi. Their steamed pork dumplings are fantastic, as are most of their starters. The sweet and sour chicken, ginger fish and basil and cashew nut are firm favourites when I dine there. Good service, and a nice ambiance, as restaurant slightly more expensive than the usual 'spur' meal, it's completely worth it. Trust me about the dumplings.

Food was very flavorful and unique in Cape Town. It was my first time here, and I would suggest to share some starters and I realize now you can order two mains for 3 people with some rice and noodles on the side (as this has to be ordered separately too) and the main portions are big enough. This restaurant is a bit on the pricy side, but worth a try. The service was also excellent.

In my humble opinion, one of the best restaurants in Cape Town: consistently incredible food with mind-blowing flavours, great service and comfortable vibe. If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese flavours/food, this is the perfect place to go. (Especially on dates)

What a mission to find parking... luckily the great food and awesome service made up for this unpleasant start to a great evening. Loved everything and a view to add a romantic touch to the evening.

Really tasty food but quite pricey. I ordered the honey ribs which were divine... Service was good and the food came quickly. Decent ambiance as well.

Edit. Their rice rolls and spring rolls are not tasty at all! Avoid at all cost.

After drinks at Asoka (across the street) we were starving and popped in! Restaurant was fairly full for a Tuesday eve but we were seated asap. Really fast service, hardly had a sip if wine when our food arrived, Sweet and Sour pork (deliciously tender, but a bit too sweet for me, with a light batter), and Saigon wok beef for Charlie, also lovely and tender. All round good meal although I should have stuck to my original order of Caramelized Pepper Pork and not have been swayed by the waiters recommendation! Open interior and good vibe!

Very fancy place is great food. Service was excellent. The portions are quite large but some of the items are rather pricey... also its not that expensive to put together a green curry or sweet and sour pork so when its over a 100 bucks it raises a few eyebrows.
There were a few business types around, and loads of the older generation so that sets the scene a little. Also the place was boiling after an hour or 2 - not sure why they let it get so hot.
So basically, good food but Simply Asia is just as good. And sushi you could try out Sevruga (much better venue) or Andy's Sushi.

Delicious food. In my opinion this is where the best dim-sum is in Cape Town. Service is excellent too. Be sure to book otherwise you won't get a table.

Arrived at Saigon on a busy Saturday night. Service was brisk and attentive. We settled down opened a bottle of wine and ordered starters from an extensive selection. I had prawn dim sum my wife had a tofu salad. The dim sum was warm, juicy and succulent and full of flavour.
For mains we both had the crispy ginger and chili fish. Delicious with rice and noodles. Oh I could have eaten another 3 portions it was that good.
You may have to wait a little while for your food but it's well worth it.
Asian cuisine at its best.
Be prepared to struggle to find parking.

It's a bit pricier than some other restaurants in the area, but the BBQ duck is life-changing. Everything we ordered was very delicious and the service was great.

proberly the worst meal I have had in my life. The chilli and ginger cocktail was tasteless, the waitress said they did not have chilli in stock and had ommited to put ginger as well, so we sent them back. The meal was so mediocre; the green curry prawn dish had too many lichies and sadly lacked enough prawns the few that we found and the were were floury and tasteless. The green curry sauce was thickend with flour or maizena making the sauce thick and almost slimy and to top it all the noodles were greasy. I complained to the manager at the front desk; he shrugged his shoulders and did not even bother to come apologise at our table! The bill for 3 people came to R1400!!! Most dissapointing
The decor was quite cozy but did not make up for a rather expensive meal. Would I go back...never!

Food was good, but definitely not worth the price. Staff were snooty and hardly waited on us after they found out we were sharing a meal (still cost us R100 each). Probably won't go back...

Had a lovely meal with my family, first visit to this restaurant in a long time. We got excellent service and wonderful food from start to finish. Thanks for a great experience.

I'm giving Saigon a 5 / 5 because it is my style of food and they do it perfectly. It is a restaurant where I could eat everything on the menu and know it will be absolutely delicious.

I enjoyed the steamed fish in ginger and soya sauce with fresh vegetables, but everyone's meals were fabulous. It is definitely the type of restaurant to order a range of starters to share, so you can experience the different flavours. For example, they serve the most delicious fried calamari with coriander sauce!!

The wine list is awesome, really good selection that will go well with the type of food served.

The service is always good, even though the restaurant was full we were well looked after. The manager/owner is awesome, always friendly and cracks a few jokes ;)

One of my favorite Asian spots in town, the sushi is good but in the expensive side so I usually stick with the other Asian dishes. The crystal rolls with mushroom, rocket & avo and that peanut dipping sauce is so good. And the calamari is so soft and literally melts in your mouth. Although I don't eat meat my partner has the angry duck every time we go and has yet to choose a different meal as its that good.
Kelly Rae Gifford
My word was that meal delish! We shared a bit of everything between 3 of us and trust me, if I had had my way, I probably would have eaten it all and licked the plate! What a great spread! my personal favourites were the prawn crystal salad rolls and the angry duck..All of this deliciousness was paired with a (couple) bottles of De Grendel Rose. I think I am going to have to go back...

I have been to most restaurants in Cape Town and there is no other restaurant that I will rate as 5, but Saigon deserves it. We have visited there numerous times over the past 8 years and have never been disappointed. We are welcomed by name and both the food and service has been impeccable on every occasion. We have tried a variety of dishes and although we have our favourites (Mekong Starter and Wok Beef), their food is consistently good both throughout the menu and over time.
