Review Meloncino - Cape Town Central

S Bopela
This is a nice place, to take a date or a friend. Not too pricey. Nice view of the port, the mountain and all that good stuff at the V&A. Its quite a big space and also has outside seating. The food was good, but for some reason the waiter was not very pleasant. Small things could've improved our experience and his tip (because we're nice people and we tip anyway, but he needs to do betteršŸ˜’).

This place had the most delicious wood oven pizza base Iā€™ve ever had (the thin base is ā€œroman styleā€). They do have R99 pizza and pasta options which I highly recommend taking advantage of; and all their cocktails are half price everyday between 4pm and 7pm. You can also opt for a thick crust with a thin base for an extra R10, ā€œneapolitan styleā€, which I definitely recommend with the (v) Melonchino Napoletana pizza- R99. Iā€™m not a fan of mint but their ā€œfrozen jackā€ cocktail was surprisingly tasty and refreshing. Its an upstairs restaurant with a decent view of the V&A Waterfront, I recommend sitting outside, though their indoor decor seemed inviting. Their food comes out really quickly when itā€™s not busy, I visited on a Sunday at around 4pm which was really relaxing. I have absolutely no complaints, the owner (Iā€™m guessing) greeted us at the door, the manager was so friendly and reassuring and our waiter, Tafadzwa served us well. I will have a video review on my Tiktok and Instagram so watch out for those (@pashieb)

Fine dining experience. The manager checked up on us more than 3 times. Menu has lots of Italian words but the waiter Unique explained everything to us very well. The best dish was the fagotinni di pollo (stuffed chicken breast) and sorbet.

Everything about them is fantastic. The view, the food, the cocktails... But best of all thr service and friendly staff. It was my first time there tonight and I will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful experience

We are fans of Melocino and we have never had a bad meal in the 3 years that we've eaten there! I think their pasta dishes are by far the best in Cape Town! But we also thoroughly enjoy their seafood and pizza options. There's a great cocktail list too! Menu has a wonderful variety and at affordable prices. If the weather is chilly, you are provided blankets.

Good food, good cocktails (and a GREAT selection at that!) Prices are good esp when using the Entertainer! My pizza was great and reminded me of my time in Rome. One star subtracted for the general atmosphere. could do with a liiiitle more decor!

Great Italian restaurant situated on the upper floor of the Waterfront - boasting views of table mountain and the cape wheel. Seating both indoors and outdoors. However, be sure to book in advance, especially over weekends. Food is absolutely delicious. Certainly recommend their pizza and pasta - the ravioli specifically. Prices are more than usual - catering more for tourists of course. However, their bottled water is ridiculously expensive - R40 for a bottle of still water for two people.

Fabulous vibe and food. Great views, attentive waitrons. Menu has a good variety of Italian food. Portions are generous and well presented. Indoor and outdoor seating. Authentic Italian. Excellent choice for date nights.

Amazing food and service! The view was stunning and this was truly a memorable evening. Make sure to book a table

Stunning authentic Italian food in a beautiful setting. While the menu is large and accommodates many tastes, the pasta and pizza is really special and distinguishes Meloncino from other pretenders. Cocktails are a bit hit and miss, but the brandy cocktail I had last time was phenomenal.
Ibrahim Alsakran
one of the top restaurant as far as the taste and the quality they have a lot of choices to select between food and drinks their menu is very diversity and they have a lot of good options the test is excellent the cleaning is high the surface is outstanding it is highly recommended to try and enjoy the setting
Sandeep Singh
Food was good but the service was excellent and great views while enjoying your meal. Only the pizza felt very tomatoey on the base.
Catherine Kannemeyer
Great venue for sundowners. The view from the deck is something else. Their cocktails are decent. Their wine list is excellent and I always enjoy their pizza.
Riana Viljoen
We had such a great time. The food and cocktails has a little bit of a wait. But completely work it. The pasta, pizza and cocktails was excellent. We decided to try the tiramisu was to die for!!! Highly recommended!

Meloncino did not disappoint. The menu is a bit difficult to get through and decide. The waiters did help with understanding the menu. Great place to have healthy meals, cooked authentically with a good flavour profile. The kids enjoyed the pizzas. Main meals are a good size. Would recommend the seafood meals.

Good service, busy terrace area with views and you can sit inside, excellent food

I just want to say thank you for the the amazing food and service, i did Date night last night at Meloncino and i cant tell you how much we enjoyed our dinner, our service was impeccable, and the food O my gosh, I've been to Italy, the food at Meloncino took me straight back, from the fresh pizza dough to the fresh made pasta, paired with incredible wine, it was a night i will do over at this restaurant over and over again.<br/><br/>Again you guys made date night memorable.

I had high expectations but they were not met at meloncino. We ordered the buccatini pasta with pancetta and the funghi porcini pizza. I have to say the food was just bland. We asked for the sides of parmesan, garlic and chilli which helped to save the pasta. The pizza crust was the best part of the pizza but the Italian sausage on top looked like it was boiled and put on top. I wanted better Italian food than I cook at home and that just didn't happen unfortunately šŸ˜”

Went here for a quick late night dinner. Food was extremely disappointing. Calamari was too salty and the veal scallops were bland, too say the very least. Only positive I can mention is friendly management and extensive wine listing. Basically don't bother.
Ingrid Carter
food was amazing first of allšŸ‘Œ compliments to the chef !!!!! but however when we got to the restaurant we stood at the door with no one to give us menus and give us. table, the waiters and waitresses where standing at the other door so we had to just pic any table because it wasnā€™t busy. The manager as we assumed was helping other customers sit down told us he will be back with menus which he never did, after 5 minutes a guy came and helped us, to be honest the vibe in this restaurant is unprofessional, unpleasant and itā€™s as if no one enjoys their work except the chef because the food was insanely good well l came for food anyway but, front staff must go back for training no one wanted to help they would look and continue standing next to the bar

My first visit to Cape Town and my first lunch was at this place. A restaurant with a view you would love. The lady I believe she owns the place was very sweet to host us. The food was amazing especially the muscles.
SerenityIsMe
What a great Italian restaurant at the V&A! <br/>Food: We ordered the compagnola pizza and a carciofi salad. As promised on the menu the pizza base was thin and crispy just the way we like our pizza. The aubergine and capers lent itself to a flavourful combination perfect for the thin-based pizza. <br/>The salad was great too. We loved the homemade sundried tomatoes. All ingredients made for a perfectly balanced tasty salad. <br/>The food looked visually appealing and we couldnā€™t wait to tuck in. <br/><br/>Service: Was excellent. We were greeted at the door by the manager who assisted us with all the dietary questions we had. He ensured he consulted with the chef to make certain our requirements would be met. Service was prompt however we had beat the dinner rush. <br/><br/>Ambience: Wow! Who can beat the view of the waterfront with Table Mountain as the backdrop!<br/><br/>Cost: approx. R300-350 which is kind of pricey for pizza and a salad but so worth it. We had no qualms spending on it. <br/><br/>All in all, loved the food, great service, amazing views and well worth the price paid. <br/>And by the time we were leaving the restaurant was filling up šŸ˜Š<br/>

We decided to check out Drinks on the Deck at Meloncino. The Waitrons made us feel very welcome, the service was amazing and the food absolutely delicious. The view of course is an added bonus.
Munch Malone
Great service but unfortunately an incredibly overpriced menu. The food is tasty - pasta dish was very meager for the money, however. Desserts are a total disappointment - Panna cotta is advertised as being flavoured with vanilla pod, but tastes plain and bland. Unfortunately it seems this store is capitalizing on tourist money and its location, and while the service is 5-star, the product simply is not quality, and at that price, a rip off.
Amit Bhana
What an awesome place. I have been wanting to go for the longest time and droped in for cocktails. They were AMAZING. Great service as well. Thanks very much. I will be back!

My girlfriend and I had a dinner add-on from Waterfront charters at Meloncino. This was a 3 course dinner and we enjoyed every minute of it.<br/>Amazing atmosphere and friendly staff.<br/><br/>The starters were amazing, my girlfriend hates soups but couldn't get enough of it. The mains were fantastic a perfect steak, perfect pasta and a perfect itallian red blend to compliment the dishes. To top it all of delicious deserts followed.<br/><br/>I highly recommend this place to any food lover out there meloncino is the place to dine.

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant for our anniversary and everything about it was special. We had a lovely waiter who was very attentive. The cocktails were delicious and the food was incredible! I had the seafood pasta and my boyfriend had the chicken and pesto pasta. We loved our dinner here and will definitely be back.

Food from Kitchen extremely slow, waited almost 45 minutes for orders to come out. Myself and friend had ordered the Fritto Misto . It was more oily batter than seafood, calamari was like dried up leather. My husband had the Pizza Rustic which was very nice and another person at our table had the Flan cioccolato which was also very nice.

My friend and I decided to go to Museum night at the V&A, but after spotting the snaking-long queues at the Zeitz Mocaa Museum, we opted to have an early dinner instead. I had been dreaming about pizza for weeks now and she had a pasta craving, so Meloncino seemed fitting.<br/><br/>Warmly greeted at the door by the hostess, we were seated and soon thereafter attended to by our assigned waiter.Ā <br/><br/>After asking our waiter 21 Qs about their menu I decided on the Napoletana Funghi Porcini Pizza (Porcini Mushrooms & Italian sausage pizza) and my friend had theĀ  Tagliolini Con Pesto Di Basilico e Pollo (Chicken and Basil Pesto Tagliatelle).Ā <br/><br/>I was warned by the waiter that the pizza I chose was the thicker base. I was somewhat concerned that I may not like it, since I usually opt for thin crispy base pizzas. But wow! Just wow! Absolutely loved it! The base is thin, but the crust thick and doughy - I am a bread and carb fan, so this was just perfect. The centre does tend to get soggy, but not unpleasant soggy and works well with the doughy crust. The pizza had all the right flavours - the flavours are simple and subtle, but by no means bland. If you've traveled to Italy, you'll appreciate the authenticity of this pizza. Also as locals, we're fed either a version of American or Roman styled pizza - so anything different to the norm, we're quick to critique - so read some of the reviews here with that in mind.<br/><br/>My friend absolutely adored her pasta; so much so that she is returning this weekend with her family. I stole a bite (or two) off her dish ... it was lovely... perhaps too rich/creamy and too little pesto - but that's a personal preference.Ā <br/><br/>In terms of the portion sizing, the pizza was super filling and the pasta looked like just the right portion size. I must also commend their wine list; it's extremely extensive, including a few imported Italian Chiantis. However, the prices are quite exorbitant (my glass of wine cost more than my whole pizza!). I also suggest coming here before 7pm for their R99 any pizza or pasta Winter deal - super worth it!<br/><br/>My score is solely based on my gorgeous pizza and the amazing service received from both our waiter and the hostess with the mostest!<br/><br/>Update: returned for dinner with a friend. She had the margherita pizza Napoletana style, while I had the truffle steak with potatoes. <br/><br/>The truffle sauce is just simple amazing!! Lapped it all up. But I wouldā€™ve liked the steak to be served whole instead of being cut into strips. <br/><br/>The margherita pizza! Wow!!!! Hands down the best Iā€™ve had in SA! <br/><br/>We then had these fried donuts filled with cream cheese and served with Nutella for dessert. Wow!!! So so good. <br/><br/>I think Iā€™ll stick to pizza and desserts when dining here.

I've been waiting a while to visit Meloncino and could finally do so on Sunday 3 June 2018. We were greated in a very friendly manner when we arrived and shown to a table which was great. The service is excellent.Ā <br/><br/>However, we find that the pizza menu is somewhat limited with not a lot of toppings on offer. In saying that, the base was thin & crispy with a great taste! Something different. Made from scratch with a perfect tomato base, it was delicious. Would have been even better with more pizza variety such as something with avo for instance. Great nonetheless.<br/><br/>We also ordered a pasta (the chicken, pesto, mascarpone, tomato, baby spinach one). This is where I was slightly unhappy. Priced at R159 there was a very small amount of pesto in there, so much so that it was almost not even tasted, as well as a vey small amount of chicken. The pasta needed salt and any sort of flavour really and one couldnt tell that it was homemade, it tasted and looked like bought pasta.<br/><br/>The food was well presented, but not something I would like to pay that price for again as it was not spectacular at all.
Claire
Nice Italian restaurant, but nothing special. The service isnā€™t fantastic but it has a really nice atmosphere. Not sure if itā€™ll be on my go-to list but itā€™s worth a visit if youā€™re at the waterfront and feel like Italian.
Emma Divaris
My favourite place to go for Happy Hour! The cocktails here are just as amazing as the prices between 16.00 and 18.00. Try the Pomme Berry Martini and the Meloncino. The restaurant has a beautiful setting and the service is great. However, both times I have eaten there, I found the food to be quite mediocre - especially for an Italian restaurant.
Annemi Brand
Amazing food, great service. Had a lovely time and will recommend this restaurant for a romantic night out. Go hungry, their meal portions are huge
Jennifer Botha
After reading a few negative reviews we went to Meloncino on Friday night for dinner, we were not sure what to expect, we were however pleasantly surprised. Our meal was delicious service was great, all round pleasant evening plus they are on the entertainer app. Will definitely go back.
Vincent Knight
Following recent poor reviews we were expecting a below par experience. Well not so. The service was excellent, the food above average and the price using ā€œentertainerā€ app was reasonable. Well done Meloncino. <br/>We all have the odd off day and need second chances.

Last night I made a booking for my husbands birthday and I have regretted it ever since. There were three of us booked for 7pm. We were greeted and escorted to our table - that was the best service we received all evening. I assume it was our waiter that came over with no introduction, however we had several different gentlemen serve us - all of whom I had to signal to get their attention in and our orders taken.Ā <br/><br/>My husband and I both are both studied and trained in hospitality. My husband is the GM of a prominent 5-star Waterfront hotel and we know the service and restaurant industry very very well.Ā <br/><br/>After advising that a third person, my husbands best friend and godfather of our son to be - would be joining us - the waiter removed his setting - never to be replaced. Not to mention we had two pepper shakers.Ā <br/><br/>I ordered the charcuterie platter to share as a starter - it was a disgrace! Apart from waiting endlessly for a R125 of nothing (not even a slice of focaccia cut in half) basically a crouton and three thumbnails of cheese and a few pathetic slices of meats - it was almost impossible to eat - as the portions were miniscule. None of us have ever experienced such shocking value for money. I had to order extra bread to at least look like less of a fool and have something to put the few slices of meat on - the bread on the platter was that small. Honestly it was a joke - more of a cheese and meat tasting - you would expect to accompany a wine tasting.Ā <br/><br/>Eventually, I managed to get another waiters attention to order mains. The pizzas arrived cold and the cheese was basically congealed, plates were ice cold and the extra avocado topping was hardly existent. The gnocchi was tasteless and cold. There was some form of deep fried or crumbed mushroom - which was bitter and inedible.Ā <br/><br/>I table looked like a dog breakfasts - nothing was being cleared. We were offered a refill of drinks once and water was never topped up.Ā <br/><br/>We didn't even consider desert, although because I had asked my husband received a birthday plate - again would have better off not having this.Ā <br/><br/>I actually cannot believe I left a tip, but a bill of R900 - which wasn't worth a cent - was officially the biggest waste of money I have ever spent and definitely my worst dining experience in Cape Town to date. Apart from the view - which I guess SPUR even has - we will not be returning ever again. I would normally never write a review nor have I ever written a negative one - but there was NOTHING at all I was happy with and feel totally robbed!

Delicious pesto pizza, bolognaise and creamy pastas!<br/>We used the Entertainer here both times and we enjoyed it.<br/>will be back to try something else
Whalen Kimathi Kadji
Very nice and professional service. The waiter was calm and patient. The food was great and for a meat guy like me it was just what I needed. <br/><br/>
Leanne Kimmings
Terrible ecperience. The waitress couldn't understand what we were asking her. The drinks and food took forever to get to us. When we did eventually get the food it was cold. Sent it back and took forever to warm up so we asked to pay for our drinks and leave. Not worth it at all and DEFINITELY would NOT go back ever again!
Lennit H Max
Very beautiful place for a get together or a date. Food is done to perfection. Had a pizza and had the best base I've had in a long time. However, for students it's a bit pricey but if you feel like treating yourself or your significant other, worth it. View is very beautiful, on top of all of that.
Beni Kabuluku
I had dinner with my mates here and the venue was fit for the evening. Great service, great food, and we were even treated to live opera singers. oh btw, they have this cheesecake with a light, fluffy and chocolate biscuit base and creamy topping and could quite honestly be the best in the city.
Marcia Swart
Always good. Great food and great service. Haven't been here in a while but still one of my favourite places in Waterfront. Relaxed and friendly. Thank you.
Justine McEvoy
Delicious pizza with a great view. Their pizza is rather pricey but can definitely say I wasnt disappointed. They have a special that runs until 7p.m. where you buy one pizza and get 50% off another. Would definitely go back !
Gareth Wever
Very beautifully setting, not convinced that it is a value for money option. Food was OK. Water at R56 a bottle and some overpriced good wine.<br/>Service was average, especially when they are not even half full. Hostess was lovely and friendly.
Shiraz Davidz
An excellent dining experience with top class service with a very extensive wine list. <br/>The winter specials also makes this an attractive desitination for a cosy dinner should you be more budget conscious.
Nikita Cloete
Ate here for the first time and I was not blown away. In fact I had expected more from the pretentious setting to the overpriced menu. The service, however, was exceptional from both my waitress and the manager. My meal was enjoyable, but had no sauce with my pasta as specified on the menu.
Geetanjali Rai
Great food...everything we ordered was delicious. Service was great but then it was a lazy Sunday afternoon so not sure if what it would be on busy evenings.
Rayne Alexander
I've been to Meloncino a few times and have always had a great experience. I would say the gnocchi and Nutella dessert are some of the best I have ever had. And their brandy cocktails are the only instance that I will ever drink brandy!!
Subramanian
Good food, service not too wonderful. The upside is that if you are to sit outside for a dinner, the view makes up for any shortcomings in the meal.
John Haggarty
After excellent memorable experiences, our last and final meal left a sour taste, starting with a condescending unpleasant greeting from the young manager. Whilst the standard of the food was not up to previous standards, our evening was ruined as we left the restaurant, where I was challenged by the manager to explain my comments on the review questionnaire, which I had completed in the presence of the charming, professional waiter. Nothing more to say.
Natalie Hunter
Dined as a table of 7. Gorgeous views. Food a huge let down. Would not recommend to anyone. Ordered a seafood pizza which arrived with mostly tomato and two tiny prawns and a huge price tag. Fellow diner's pizza was burnt and anothers pasta bland. Generally skimpy portions especially for the price tag.
Glenn Muller
Popped in at Meloncino for some carbo-loading in prepartion for the Cape Peninsula marathon the next day. Opted for the seafood pizza which was okay - crispy, thin-based, although the toppings were somewhat sparse. I've had worse, I've had better- which makes this one pretty ordinary.
Nicol Miller
Unfortunately, I am quite disappointed in this restaurant. We made a reservation for six people for dinner last night. We arrived and were taken to the table. Unfortunately it was positioned next to a bigger table, which was slightly loud. We asked to move due to the fact that we wanted a more intimate, private setting. The manager came over to find out the problem, and said unfortunately we couldnt do so( which is strange as the restaurant wasn't full at all). So we decided to try put up with it. As people were coming in, they continously bumped us and it made it unpleasant coupled with the fact that the music playing in the restaurant was distinctively loud as well. So this review is based solely on the customer service and ambience of the restaurant. We eventually left, as there was no way we were going to pay a hefty sum of money, and bite our tongue through everything else.
Robin Mahlangu
The outside seating area has a nice view of the harbour, even more dazzling at night. Wasn't too impressed with their outside seating area, the food was good but not breath taking, but to be fair I did order a dish which basically was mashed potato and chicken.
Maxine
While looking for a restaurant for New Years we popped past Meloncinos. They were busy but were still able to seat us. I had the Risotto Campagnola which was absolutely delicious. My mom had the chicken salad, she said gen chicken was a little tough and my fiancƩ had a pizza with Parma ham - he said it was good and tasted. Definitely a nice place for a dinner however it is quiet hot inside and definitely could use a bit of ventilation.
Ronel Hewett
Had supper at Meloncino last night to celebrate a 30th! We were a table of 6. The food was excellent, all 6 plates!! Pastas, beef fillet, prawns.... The wine list is extensive and we found a bottle of Piekenierskloof Grenache. All I can say is: WOW!!! Stunning vino! <br/>A very special desert plate was presented to the birthday boy ---- on the house! Thank you for a memorable evening.@Barrie Barnard

Food was ok- average, service was extremely poor, nice ambience, dirty tables, there's really alot more Italian restaurants which are better, with better service
Carlo Aka Lil C
Thought it would have been worth the time but it wasn't at all, this place was as hot as a oven and people walking and bumping pass your seat while you trying to eat as well as terrible live Oprah singing, I was absolutely shocked. The food wasn't all that great either so yeah it was a first and a last for me.
Sarita Kerber
The lovely entertainer app gave me the opportunity to come eat her for supper and boy was it delicious. For starters we shared the smoked salmon wrapped in a mozzarella. It was light and refreshing. For mains I had the salmon steak with Mash. The salmon was grilled medium to rare it was perfect. My mom had the seafood pasta and they unwrapped it from plastic wrapping and then into the dish it was a unique was of serving it.
Mbaki Wotho
I wish I wrote this review while the experience was still fresh in my mind. We ordered pasta during the 2 for 1 special but somehow our waiter had logged our orders wrong and they ended up being full price, normally I wouldn't mind but the food was really bland. The cocktails are delicious however.
Lindsey Napoleon
I've been to Ā this restaurant twice but the last time was August of 2015, so quite a while ago. I don't know if things changed Ā but both times were lovely. I loved the pizza and the gnocchi. I really want to visit again soon. It's a great authentic Italian food restaurant but it is a bit pricey for me.
MinionMan
Nice view. Friendly service. Very slow for food to arrive at the table (they weren't busy while we were there). The pizzas had a nice thin base, but were tasteless. The pastas were insipid and mediocre. Quite disappointing.
Mikaela
I visited Meloncino's to try their winter special. The decor was a bit off-putting but the view more than made up for it!<br/><br/>My friend and I both had pizzas which were really great, but quite standard. In every Italian restaurant, Parmesan and garlic are staples on every table, but at Meloncino's you have to pay extra for them. If you're at the Waterfront and craving Italian, definitely give Meloncino's a visit, but otherwise I would suggest going elsewhere.
Nici Martin
Their pizza's are really good and so are their cocktails. Unfortunately the most recent evening we were there the service wasn't fantastic, but we have been on other occasions when our waitron was very attentive. We will definitely continue to visit this restaurant!
Chetna Black
Enjoyed a fabulous lunch here yesterday. The weather was less than ideal, but the view really is spectacular from this Italian restaurant. For drinks I had vodka martini's, which were actually prepared so well , and then the Pesto pizza for mains . Pizza was delicious - beautiful base and fresh toppings. Tasted a few other dishes that everyone with me ordered and enjoyed everything. Fantastic service! Our waiter was attentive and informative and we didn't wait long at all for our drinks and food. The meloncino cocktail I tasted was also really nice. they have a few mocktails on the menu as well, and they cater really well for vegetarians. Great place.
Nel
Decor is appealing and the view is to die as they say however I did not really enjoy the pizza I had. Maybe I'm just really picky when it comes to my pizza toppings but I honestly struggled to find something I liked and I felt limited by the options I had as extras that I could put on my pizza. Yeah wasn't the most comfortable experience I had when it came to eating. But I'm certain someone else might have a better experience there! Try it out and see for yourself!

Close your eyes and you could be in Rome! A restaurant that brings Italian flavours to our shores. This authentic Italian restaurant with its cosmopolitan atmosphere is perfectly located in the V&A Waterfront. A gorgeous view of Table Mountain creates a beautiful backdrop with a great view overlooking the harbour. Perfect place for a romantic dining experience. <br/><br/>The menu is quite extensive with a superb wine selection - enough to suit a mixture of tastes and appetites. Mains for me was a choice of home-made tagliolini pasta cooked with smoked salmon, cognac, radicchio (Italian red chicory) and speck tossed in a light creamy sauce. A taste sensation with so much flavour and absolutely delicious. Hubby opted for Gnocchi tossed in a creamy gorgonzola cheese and chive sauce. The Gnocchi was like pillows of love - so fresh and light and is made the traditional way as in Rome. <br/><br/>Dessert was a chocolate sensation - baked cream pasticciera and white chocolate on a milk chocolate biscuit base, topped with Lindt chocolate sauce infused with Cointreau liqeur. Hubby's choice was a decadent chocolate souffle served with a sorbet for a refreshing touch. <br/><br/>This is a place where great food is made with fresh, quality ingredients...and love! Salute!!<br/>

We had been here a couple of times over the years and first time I wasn't happy with the service and the food but on a recent experience, that changed for me. So we arrived and you get this lovely view of the V & A Waterfront. The decor is nice and modern. There were a few large tables with tourist but it wasn't noisy at all. <br/><br/>The wine list is rather good with many options to choose from. For starters we opted for bread for 2 but I found the butter to be too hard which is a pet peeve of mine.<br/><br/>For mains, we ordered the gnocchi with creamy Gorgonzola cheese and chive sauce. It was devine, the gnocchi was home made and light and fluffy. <br/>We also had the tagliolini with smoked salmon, smoked ham, cognac in a creamy sauce and that was very good and I'm not a massive salmon fan.<br/><br/>For dessert we had the 3 chocolate tart and chocolate fondant. Both very good and an excellent end to the evening.<br/><br/>Service was very good and attentive even though there were several large tables. Great experience.

Update: after my last bad experience at meloncino I decided to give it a try again. The restaurant was full inside and so we sat outside with the stunning view of the mountain as a backdrop to our meal. I decided to try out a pasta, surprisingly they do not make any pizzas or pastas with chicken. I went for a basic pasta with a red wine and tomato sauce, red onion and parmaham. It was quite average. My friends got the pizza and veal ravioli. After requesting that we would like the thin based pizza we were given the thick base and charged for it. The service was once again a problem with our waiter disappearing for about 30-40 minutes till our food was ready. Not a fan. <br/><br/><br/>Really average experience at meloncino. The food was cold when it got to the table, and was really bland. When we complained the waiter told us that he would be back, we waited for 30 mins before he could come back to sort things out. I just paid and left. You really don't expect this sort of service from the waterfront at all!!!
Lindie White
A friend invited me to lunch here recently. It's a favourite venue because of the view and quick service. I wanted something light and opted for a salad while she had a pasta. While my bowl was huge, it was filled mostly with leaves, but I wasn't particularly hungry so I didn't mind. She was starving, however, so when I saw the size of her portion I thought she'd drawn the short straw. She was gracious about it, but we decided not to stay for dessert. Next time we'll select our meals more carefully.
Bronwyn Coltman
This is a nice place to go if you're looking for a good meal at the waterfront. Definitely one of the higher priced restaurants, but with The Entertainer 2 for 1 main meals, it's worth it. The pasta is good and they have an extensive wine menu.

Iman Bawa and I decided to try meloncino. I'd visited their sister restaurant, city grill on several occasions and thought it would be fitting to try them. <br/>We decided to go for iftaar which is conveniently situated within their specials hours. They have a 50% off pasta, pizzas and cocktails from 11am-7pm Monday to Sunday during winter. <br/>I arrived slightly earlier than Iman and ordered the food, the gnocchi and seafood risotto (decided on one safe dish, just in case) the gnocchi was good, no bold flavours but I was given what was expected. The risotto, started off good but became overwhelming due to the amount of seafood. I was disappointed that I wasn't offered any bread, I know it's pedantic but I just feel it's a norm. The virgin cosmos were good, no complaints. <br/>The restaurant has a stunning view of the harbour, I rate it would be a good restaurant for a date or something like that.
Iman Bawa
Meloncino offers a 50% special on all pizza, pasta and cocktails. We thought we would try it out as the reviews looked really promising <br/><br/>We ordered the gnocchi and the seafood risotto. Both of the dishes were of a considerable size and neither of us could finish our meals to really good value for money. The seafood risottos seafood to rice ratio was off, too much seafood too little rice. Some might think that's it's weird to complain about too much seafood but I feel that the excess seafood overpowered the dish. The risotto was also a bit chalky, not inedible but not cooked to perfection. The gnocchi flavour were good, can never go wrong with a blue cheese gnocchi.<br/><br/>One major problem for me was that when you ask for fries, which is a must for us, you receive a bowl of something that resembles crisps and at R25 for that tiny bowl I was extremely disappointed. The virgin cosmos we had were really good though so give that a try.<br/><br/>Service was excellent and that probably the reason I haven't scored lower. Very friendly and very attentive. Our food also arrived promptly. All in all not a bad experience

Happened to stop by for dinner since we were at the mall. I ordered the ravioli with prosciutto and I was surprised to see that there were quite a few pieces. The ravioli sheets were a tad too thick for my liking but overall a decent meal. And this is my last meal in South Africa. Goodbye!

I was pleasantly surprised by how delightful Meloncino was! Had their tuna carpaccio for starters, which was okay, but had their fillet with mushroom sauce and mash for mains, which was absolutely amazing!!! The place is a little expensive, as Waterfront restaurants generally are, but the food was beautifully yummy. Plus, they're on the Entertainer, so diners can enjoy 2-for-1 deals (which is what I did).

Okay food. Good service. They made our anniversary very special! Gave us an aperitif and special desert. Enjoy the appetizer very much.

I reckon Meloncino is one of the best and most authentic restaurants at the V&A Waterfront. Loved the melanzana alla parmiggiana and ravioloni di burrata! And our waiter, Evidence, was amazingly knowledgeable and friendly.

Good food with an elegant setting. Can be quite expensive, however look out for the winter specials, can often get 50% of pizza and pastas before 7pm.

My fiance and I were hesitant to go to Meloncino because so many of the restaurants at the V&A are overrated and targeted at tourists, but now we'll definitely be back! The food was delicious and our waiter, Evidence, was so knowledgeable (especially impressive since he was new). I can't wait to try out the rest of their menu.

An upmarket Italian restaurant situated in the V&A waterfront. The service is top class and the food certainly falls under the category of fine dining. I tried the ravioloni filled with two cheeses and paired with a burnt butter and sage sauce. The first few mouthfuls were quite rich, but once I got to the third pasta pocket I could truly appreciate the complex flavour combinations in this simple dish. My partner had the salmon with pomme puree which looked perfectly prepared. Although the meals are quite pricey, it's worth visiting if you'd like to try something new.

Great Italian restaurant, however it's been a while since I was last there and I've heard one or two bad reviews since my last visit. However, my bruschetta and pasta tasted really good and I loved taking in a view of the V & A Waterfront harbour while enjoying my meal. The waiters were great in that they were efficient and helpful at all times. It can be a bit pricey for something you could get at a more affordable Italian restaurant so that would be the only downfall.

Meloncino has an excellent location and great service however the meals are very overpriced. It is a great place to have a sophisticated dinner. The restaurant attracts many foreigners and your groups who seem to love the place and food! I however, find the food quite average and bland. I have dined at the restaurant a few times and have tried their vegetarian pizzas, gnocchi and chicken. The food is presented well and fresh. Overall it is a lovely restaurant to wine and dine.

I am a sucker for good Italian food so I really wanted to try this place and they did not disappoint. <br/>The pizzas were divine and I would recommend anything with Buffalo Mozzarella on it! <br/>The service was good however, I did not feel like the waiter understood what was really on the menu and his knowledge of the ingredients was not very good. <br/>Closest I've come to pizza in Cape Town tasting like it's come from Italy. Beautiful view of the waterfront and table mountain with a great ambience.

Nice setting being at the waterfront, and decent selection of cocktails...Unfortunately that's it. For 3 drinks bill was R200 and took over 15 minutes to get a simple cocktail (cranberry and vodka) - only 3 tables occupied so no reason for delay. Overpriced and not good value for money, many other better options around.

Amazing view from the deck and fabulous pasta and great service.<br/>A bit expensive but then it is the Waterfront <br/>I had the linguine with calamari in white wine sauce... It was delicious

The venue for a lovely Valentines Lunch after a flip on the Helicopter. Set menu, but the mussels was great for starters and the veal for mains amazing. The ravioli wasn't bad at all either... Don't forget to wash it down with some bubbly

Good Italian food. Slightly overpriced and limited vegetarian options. But taste, presentation and ambience is good. Good collection of wines.

Find meloncino to be rather average to say the least. Went 3 times and all 3 meals were just over priced and lacked quality as well as taste. It's quite disappointing that such an average restaurant gets to be at the VNA. <br/><br/>On my first visit I had a pizza which lacked flavour and toppings. On my second visit I ordered the lamb chops which came out bland and over cooked. My third visit (don't know why I bothered going back) was the same lamb chops and again quite unappetizing. I definitely don't recommend a visit here as their food is not worth the price you pay and the service is also pathetic.

If I could give less than 1 then I would.<br/>A nastier me would send them a dictionary with the words "service" and "attitude" clearly defined.<br/>Perhaps I expect too much from a prime tourist-situated spot at the Waterfront but the service was so shoddy and i could have knocked down a wall by throwing the ravioli they serve at it.<br/>The "canapƩs" were tiny squares of cheap brown bread with a minuscule amount of cream cheese and a quarter of a cherry tomato on.<br/>They charge R50 corkage but you have to fill your own glasses each time and run to the bar of you need any other drinks because the waiters aren't a interested

So I went there with my boyfriend for our anniversary. We walk in and get greeted with such a friendly hostess who says to us that they have a private function that evening and all their other tables are full but if we want we can wait and she sat us down at the bar. I had some water and my bf had a beer. She comes back and says there isn't a table available yet but as soon as one becomes available they'll come get us. So we wait and wait for about 30-45 minutes. Eventually this waiter comes and fetches us to go sit down at the table. We walk outside and then they sat someone else at the table. Apparently the people were waiting outside (which they weren't because we thought of sitting outside but the wind was too bad and I distinctively noticed that there was no-one on the couch) then they sat us down on the couch. I feel there is disrespect coming through because these people were older than us and the place is quite upper class. Either they thought we weren't going to be able to pay. Or they made a big mistake my putting those people there and by covering their bum they said they were there before us. Then we left. Because first of all, you let someone know if there is someone else waiting outside instead of making them think they're the only people waiting and then afterwards treating us badly because I said that we were there first. Just rude man.

Incredible food and such a lovely atmosphere. The waiters are so well-mannered and their service is great. Would definitely come back again!

WOW the food soooo tasty. Steak huge and the herbs gives it a fantastic taste. Ravioli was al dente and also had lovely seasoning. No need to add salt or cheese. The view. The food. The menu. The waiter. Every mouthful delicious. Thanks! Dessert was fabulous.

we wait 30 min to seat (but because they forget us). After 1 hours we received the pasta but they forgot the starter and also to give us the cutlery. BUT the best: when we asked for a napkin, the waiter give to my girlfriend an dirty one that he used to clean the table in front of us.<br/>Pasta: ravioli were fine, the tagliolini FULL of cream were not italian...and I'm Italian.<br/>I'll give another chance..only because was the 2th of Jan and was crazy busy day.

We decided to go to Meloncino for an early dinner to miss the city traffic on the way back to the suburbs from the Waterfront. Our initial drinks order took a crazily long time to arrive but once they did the service really picked up and we had a very enjoyable experience. We shared a simple pizza which was satisfying as a meal for two. The pizza was delicious -one of the best we've had in Cape Town. Views are stunning too. Pity about the tacky paper menus. Otherwise, a really lovely spot! Can't wait to go back.

What could be better on a sunny Sunday afternoon.. Beautiful, relaxed setting with excellent service and of course, yummy yummy food. I had the Raviolini which has me craving it several weeks later, from across the country.

I visited this restaurant for the first time during restaurant week. It is authentic Italian with the highest quality of Italian imported ingredients and also serves very Italian liqueurs and wines which are difficult to find in South Africa. The food was delicious and offered real Italian flavors. The service and management were very attentive and out waitress was very knowledgable!! I will return!

Last Friday, I was spoilt by a feast for the senses with a decadent 3 course lunch experienced at 3 decidedly different restaurants owned and run by the Protoulis family. Established in 1992, each restaurant based at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, in Cape Town are completely uniqueĀ with their individualĀ dĆ©cor, menu, wine list and view of the harbour and Table Mountain.

Loved this place more<br/>Such an amazing and welcoming atmosphere<br/>We had mains and desserts here<br/>Was really amazing I loved it<br/>The view was great and it wasn't crowded like most restaurants, our waiter was very friendly and the service was quick<br/>Very relaxed and laid back feeling to it<br/>But over all it was great<br/>I'd definitely go back

Hmmm love at first bite!!!<br/><br/>I swear they have the best steak ever! And their pizza's are to die for! The service is excellent and I've never waited long for food. Prices are reasonable I'd recommend Meloncino's for the perfect date night the setting and view is magnificent it sets the tone for a relaxing and romantic evening! <br/><br/>Definitely 5/5 from mešŸ‘

His name was David. I prefer calling him waterfronts best waiter! Very conversational at the right times. Communicated the specials as we sat down. We ended up spending the whole day drinking half price cocktails and eating half prize pizza. <br/><br/>The seafood pizza is to die for. Not everyday that u get to see actual prawns in a pizza. In most places u only read about them on the menu and never ever see them except on your bill.<br/><br/>We ended up sitting at the bar and watching the rugby and the bar man was also equally amazing.<br/><br/>Great food. Well priced and fresh ingredients. Not an every day occurrence but somehow Meloncino gets it right everytime.

I've only had 1 drink a sangria which was very tasty, but it just needed some ice. I will definately be back for the sangria and some food too of cause.

Meloncino caught my eye because of the 2 for 1 pizza special. Unfortunately the pizza just wasn't that great. The seafood pizza was almost as though there were tinned mussels covered in tomato sauce on it. Lovely restaurant and very nice staff just unfortunately the food was not good. Was very happy it was 2 for 1 .

Meloncino is a romantic, up market restaurant and with it being our anniversary I thought it was the perfect chose to celebrate. Being situated on the upper level at the waterfront, it offers splendid views of the harbour below and I can only imagine the view of Table mountain during the day.<br/><br/>I had the oven cooked fillet steak which is served with italian roasted potatoes and a dijon mustard and fig sauce. The flavours were exquisite and my steak was done perfectly. My boyfriend had a seafood dish which consisted of deep fried calamari, prawns, linefish and mussels. I tasted one of the prawns and it was well seasoned and tender. For dessert I had a frozen Nutella chocolate mousse. The texture was something unusual, but the sweetest just right.<br/><br/>Our waiter was well trained and the service throughout the evening was great. We were treated with an opera song from two very talented gentlemen and it just made the evening extra special.<br/>

Have heard such great things about Meloncino and was pretty excited when my friend and I popped in for a bite to eat and catch up last nightā€¦ Iā€™m afraid it didnā€™t live up to the rave reviews for me. Nothing was terrible but nothing was amazing either. <br/><br/>We ordered pizzas (Half price ā€“ thank you winter special) ā€“ Mine was the Parma (mozzarella, rocket, prosciutto and parmesan) and Mā€™s was the Funghi porcini (mozzarella, meat sausage, porcini mushrooms and basil) - both were tasty but the bases were a bit too soggy (and tough which was weird) for me. I much prefer a thin base to be light and crispy. <br/><br/>I loved the space, dĆ©cor and location but the prices and food left me a little underwhelmed. <br/><br/>The pastas coming out of the kitchen looked incredible so that will be our next order for sure!<br/><br/>Hereā€™s hoping it was an off night and that round 2 will knock our socks off ;)

Lovely view if at an outside table and great atmosphere inside. Have been there twice and enjoyed the food both times. Service is prompt and friendly. Management does seem to hover a bit though.

Not amazing but not bad. Had the Pesto pizza which was good but didn't have nearly enough toppings. Felt like I hadn't eaten anything after we finished it. It also only had about 4 pine nuts on it :'(

Beautiful view of harbour and table mountain with good food and friendly service! We've visited Melonchino a couple of times now and have never been disappointed.

You would think that this is just another commercial restaurant, but when you walk in and the owner greets you and says that you were missed it make a big difference and stands out above any other establishment in the V&A Waterfront. I can recommend Meloncino to anyone. Such a great place with a magnificent view, friendly sufficient staff and the food is out of this world. Italian and they treat you like family.
Lucinda Fisher
Received great, friendly service from our waiter who recommended the best bottle of wine and the food was excellent. We would definitely go back.

Aubrey Turner and I decided to go out for dinner. Not sure where to go but ended up at Meloncino, Italian Restaurant. We don't have any complaints everything was great from the arrival to dessert! We sat outside and had a beautiful view of the V&A Harbour! I had pasta and Aubrey had fish! We loved it and will definitely return!

Had the Funghi Porcini pizza, quite lovely I must say. Hadn't had the buffalo mozzarella so was excited to taste that and I quite enjoyed it, something different. The cocktails were good, great service. Overall very tasty food, would definitely go again to try out their pastas this time. Lovely ambience too, just wish I went there in the Summer.

My boyfriend treated me to a night out at Meloncino and what a treat it was!!! We arrived a little earlier than our booking was made for and this was no problem for the very attentive and friendly staff. We ordered cocktails and foccacia bread to start with, which were enjoyed by the two of us. Next up I had the most delicious Ravioli I have ever had the pleasure of eating and my boyfriend had a fillet steak which was cooked to absolute perfection. I was pleasantly full but couldn't resist ordering the sorbet for dessert which was fantastic.....The perfect way to end off a great meal šŸ˜Š This could possibly be one of the best meals I've had in Cape Town so far! I will definitely be back.
