Review Nobu - Cape Town Central

María Soto Gomez
We went to Nobu to celebrate our anniversary as a special treat. The whole experience was perfect. From begging to end, Sky, the waiter explain everything about the set menu that we decided to go for and he was very professional and charming. He also brought us an anniversary dessert dish. We would highly recommend this place. The music was great and the decor.

The atmosphere is amazing. The ambiance is really nice. With views of the waterfront, the dining is amazing. A reservation is highly recommended to avoid disappointment. I had the lobster tucos. The portion was small, and the taste was decent. For my main, I had the lobster and chicken skewers. These were absolutely Devine. The portion size was decent, and the flavours were distinctive. They provide chop sticks, so dining with these was quite interesting, but you get the hang of it, and if not, they will provide cutlery. As it was a birthday, they also provided a celebratory dessert. I would definitely return.

I made a reservation for a special dinner to celebrate my partner's birthday. The restaurant's main floor was absolutely stunning and classy. As guests entered the restaurant, the staff welcomed and greeted them in Japanese. We started with lobster wasabi sour creams. It was a small, cold dish. It wasn't my favorite, although that was more of a personal preference than anything else, as my partner appreciated it. We split two dishes for our main course because we had a heavy lunch earlier that day: lobster spicy garlic and chicken anticucho. The lobster dish comprised thick and juicy lobster tails that were cooked to perfection and smothered in aromatic butter. It was served on a bed of Japanese vegetables and came with this exotic-tasting sauce that was ideal for dipping the lobster in. The chicken dish featured succulent chicken cubes on skewers, accompanied by interesting sauces and vegetables. These two meals were delicious. The wait staff was exceptionally attentive and helpful. They noticed that I was struggling to use my chopsticks as a novice to East Asian cuisine and supported me by providing "training wheels" for my chopsticks. This was quite innovative, and it allowed me to get acquainted with an authentic way of eating. For my partner's birthday, the staff prepared a delicious dessert, which we greatly appreciated. We didn't spend much time at Nobu because we were pretty full from our previous outing, but we will definitely spend more time there the next time we visit Cape Town.

We went on a Friday, there's live music from 5pm. It's worth going there before your reservation at Nobu to enjoy a drink at the bar, live music, and a view. We paid R600 to reserve a table. It's worth going through their menu before getting there, unless you're familiar with Japanese food. The portions were small for the price, and our waitress did her best to help us choose our meals.

NOBU situated in the One&Only in Cape Town near the V&A Waterfront. Exceeding standards in service and taste. All guests are greetings are in Japanese by the staff as new guests arrive. Food is innovative, colourful and delicious, however the truffle rice was stodgy and rich.

The most decent sushi in town but still doesn’t really compare to any omakase experiences in Japan. We loved the sake and a few dishes were tasty. It’s rather expensive here but expect no salmon roses and mayonnaise on your food.

Was visiting Cape town on a trip with some friends in March. We went to Nobu for a friends birthday. The first table we got was small so I asked to move which the staff obliged. We went upstairs which was more private and interment which suited us better. The food and drinks were nice and we enjoyed ourselves. We ordered different foods which we shared among ourselves. The waiter was very attentive (Can not remember his name). There was parking underground at the restaurant which was free.

I always enjoy a japanese food and this place wasn’t disappointed me !!. The atmosphere of this place is very glam. The quality and taste of sushi and sashimi is very fresh and yummy. also it was very cute with the african-clerk said Irasshaimase (welcome in Japanese).🥰

One of the best dining experience so far. Not only the food was outstanding but the crew and the place was also amazing. High quality on all levels!

Nobu is a culinary experience that everyone should try at least once! Authentic, fresh Japanese cuisine that is bursting with flavour, is presented well, and in my opinion, is worth the price tag it comes with. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu and also thought that the service was impeccable.

n the first and only African outpost in his eponymous global empire, world-renowned master chef Nobuyuki 'Nobu' Matsuhisa infuses his innovative Japanese cuisine with flavour and spices unique to South Africa. No stranger to international culinary influences, Nobu gives classical Japanese cuisine a contemporary twist with a Peruvian influence. Diners can indulge in fresh South African seafood and indigenous spices in mesmerising dishes such as Sake Roast Whitefish with Jalapeno or the Chocolate Bento Box; a dark chocolate fondant with green tea ice cream and a sesame seed tuile. A sweeping fan-like staircase leads to the 104 seat dining area and sushi counter, which is framed by a textured, translucent origami light that glides along the ceiling. The upper-level Nobu Lounge features a selection of Sakes including Japanese beer and Shochu based cocktails.

Went to Nobu on Friday Evening and the entire experience was spectacular. This is my second time and it has never disappointed. <br/><br/>Firstly, if you have dietary requirements such as myself (long list of allergies) they will cater for you without any hassle. <br/><br/>I had the chef’s special omakase (8courses) which showcased a range of meals from sashimi, black cod and wagyu beef. It was honestly delicious and each dish showed finesse. I highly recommend the omakase to get a good range of meals, sensations and an overall feel of the menu. It may seem pricy but the food quality is definitely worth every penny! <br/><br/>The service was attentive and always friendly and professional.

We were advised this was a must do while staying at the hotel. Restaurant is beautiful and staff were fabulous. Entree was tempura scallops, prawn and mixed vegetables. Tempura batter was too thick and impacted on the flavours of the dish. I had the most amazing lobster on a watermelon salad which was phenomenal. The lamb main was also good. Lovely place which was very expensive and slightly underwhelming.

Amazing Asian cuisine .For Vegetarians, Veg Tacos and vegetable Sushi were the best.Nobu Cheesecake is a must try.Thankyou for the wonderful service.

Lovely setting. Attentive service. Great variation of food. One cannot try everything at one sitting so have to come to back. Try the Japanese alcoholic beverages and relax before or after dinner. 😋

First time at Nobu. Celebrating a birthday. Not the best of experiences. Prices are really high for simple sushi dishes. ordered 7-course chef special but waiter confused us both and made it seem that it was the same price as the vegetarian one for R700 whereas it was R1500. So when bill came both of us were very surprised. We paid it but it put a sour taste as to the experience in a big way. Would have raised it with management but had to rush off for another appointment. Until then we were having a decent experience even if the food wasn’t spectacular. Good atmosphere and decor. Really makes you feel you are in Asia. If you do go don’t let the waiters confuse u and you end up paying more than expected.

For a platter of sushi that costs R400 I don't think I've had such mediocre sushi as this. Willoughby sushi is exponentially better and I've had a platter of sushi for R60 that was way more delicious. So disappointing. The pasta likewise lacked flavour and was not worth the price, despite the generous portion of prawns

This is not up to Nobu standard. I’ve been to many Nobu around the world and unfortunately this one is just not up to expectations. Unfortunate as the setting in the hotel is beautiful.

I had the restaurant week dining with the stars menu at Nobu last night. It was awesome. We ordered the oysters as an addition, and oh my word!! It was so delicious. I could eat 100 of those. Then we had the tuna tartar with crispy rice, prawn and mushrooms followed by Langoustine bisque, the tempura sushi, beef tobanyaki and we ended off with malva pudding... The entire meal was absolutely delicious. For drinks we had white wine, beer and I had to try one of the sake cocktails. Lovely. Service was brilliant. Grant was so attentive and kind. Ended off the evening under the stars outside and got to catch the blood moon. What an awesome evening!

An extremely excellent dining service. My rating of the food was initially 4 out of 5 but the extra point comes from the service we had almost everything on the menu dribs and drabs of everything, what I really loved was that we came to the restaurant clueless on what to order and our waiter (Mthetwa) took the lead and decided on what food we would like and he was accurate on all of the options. Really enjoyed my dining experience here, I recommend coming with a group of friends or family and letting the chef decide on what you’ll eat or asking the waiter what he/she would recommend .

Really good service, amazing food and amazing atmosphere.<br/>Definitely a place to return, just loved it.<br/>Everything was 5 stars, just perfect.<br/>

Fantastic service from beginning to end with impeccable staff. Food shines through with amazing Japanese flavour and exquisite tastes if yuzu and ponzu. You do pay for all if this and if I have to be honest everything a maybe a tad overpriced. But overall a really fantastic experience.

A quality dining experience! Good food, good wine and dessert to die for. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely love to go back and try more on the menu!

Warning: this may be a very lengthy review. <br/><br/>Booked dinner here as part of restaurant week; arrived slightly before the dinner seating and waited upstairs near the bar area. Whilst waiting, the staff were having their team meeting. It was probably one of the most positive team meetings I’ve ever listened in on. Happy staff usually make for very good service and that just set the tone for the evening. After the team meeting wrapped up and the restaurant opened for dinner, the hostess warmly greeted me and somehow knew my name. It’s like she memorized the entire reservation list for the evening. Impressive!<br/><br/>The hostess promptly seated me and the waiter immediately came to introduce himself (sadly I forgot his name). The evening started with a hot towel to cleanse your hands – loved this touch! Very soon thereafter I received my aperitif, the Nobu Bellini. Now I am not a cocktail girl. Probably the only cocktail I may drink is a Moscow Mule out of a real copper cup, but cocktails are just not my thing. This Bellini though, may have just changed my view on cocktails. <br/><br/>And then the marathon of all dinners started; gluttonous me decided to do a full-on 7 course dinner. First course were these gorgeous salmon tartar tacos. Wow! I could eat those all night! Next up was the prawn Caesar salad with potato croutons, shitake mushrooms and this stunning dressing. The dressing had hints of truffle (and citrus I think) plus a few other components I can’t quite put my finger on – but so flavoursome and all worked amazingly well together. <br/><br/>The third course was a miso soup served alongside a full serving of prawn & salmon futomaki roll. It was good, but perhaps I expected more of their sushi. After this course, I was edging on feeling stuffed. The rice killed me and I still had 4 more courses to go! Then the chef brought out a surprise complimentary dish! This seared salmon sashimi with an oil & soy based dressing and chives. Very very lovely, would recommend this dish especially if you’re not a fan of raw fish. <br/><br/>My waiter, bless his soul, worried that I was without a drink (I had one too many glasses of bubbly at the spa before dinner and didn’t want to continue drinking), brought out a virgin cocktail on the house for me! <br/><br/>Soon thereafter came the fourth course, which was the grilled linefish (kingklip) served with some wasabi sauce and I don't recall what the pink sauce on top of the fish was (some fish roe and mayo concoction). The fish was a bit dry and I wasn't a fan of the sauce. I took one bite and decided to leave some much needed space for the rest of the dishes. <br/><br/>Next up was the truffle lobster & prawn quinoa risotto with poached egg. Next to the tacos and salad, this was probably my fave dish. But after finishing this dish, I was ready to curl up on the sofa for a very long snooze. <br/><br/>The sixth course was sliced beef fillet with some spicy (I think South American influenced) sauce, served on top of pan fried exotic mushrooms. Took one bite and asked for the rest to be placed in a take away for me. The sauce was not my fave, but those mushrooms were gorgeous. <br/><br/>Last dish of the evening, which I polished (dessert goes to a different stomach), was the Malva Pudding served with a pouring Crème anglaise custard. Although lovely, I am more of a warm choc dessert kind of girl. <br/><br/>Nobu is very very pricey. But this was not a tasting menu, rather full on courses and thus so worth the price tag! The service is impeccable! Even my waiter addressed me by name – it’s just those little things that make the world of difference. Dishes come out in precision. Waiters assist each other’s tables and you never feel unattended to, but it’s not intrusive where they are hovering over your table. <br/><br/>I would highly recommend trying out Nobu at least once. The restaurant week special was a fraction of the cost of the normal price, so would recommend looking out for them during next season’s restaurant week. <br/><br/>Loved every moment of my experience here.

Came here for a birthday celebration. Loved the setting and the atmosphere. When you enter, the hostess initiates a Japanese greeting that the whole staff joins in on. Very welcoming. Whilst the food was high quality and had oodles of flavour, there was just too little of it. We had the tacos, mushroom hot plate and veg sushi. For the price and residual hunger we felt after the meal, I don't think it's worth it. Nice to say we've been but we won't be going back.

I don’t think that Nobu SA lives up to the Nobu name and for the very high price point I was very disappointed. (R2000 for 3) Our sushi rolls fell apart and the sushi rice was very mediocre, lacking the texture and slight vinegary sweetness that compliments fish so well. Also the tamago was not at all what I expected! More like sponge cake. The roe is pretty much the same that you’d find anywhere else. Mushrooms also. I think for a restaurant of this stature i expect more quality sourcing and ingredients. Sorry for leaving bad review I know everyone works very hard but the flavor and excellence is not quite there.
Chiara Crystal
Overall the food was delicious, service was great. Our host for the evening was incredible, she was very informative and polite, making us laugh all evening. We had many courses, the sushi melted in your mouth, and the cod was TO DIE FOR. The desserts were also out of this world, loved the green tea ice cream and the sesame seed snaps. The menu is not easy to understand as there is very little English, so we kind of just chose whatever sounded interesting, also be prepared to take out a small loan as the prices are extortionate for the portion sizes, but I suppose you are indeed paying for an experience.

My fave restaurant in Cape Town. Love the depth of quality and Japanese flavors. Had such a wonderful time here and enjoyed the bento box with the lamb chops being a hit. The sashimi was so fresh and delicious.

We just finished dinner at Nobu - the ambience is nice .. the service though was horrible .. very slow and they forgot half the order .. not to mention making us wait for 30 minutes although we had a reservation ..
Nqobile Msibi
Came here and tried out the omakase with some friends. The food wasn't as exceptional as I expected considering the price but one of my guests seemed quite taken and being able to show someone a good time is always a win :). The decor was gorg was and I loved that they have a coat room so I didn't have to sit with my coat in an awkward position. I will be back to give this place another review just to see if I really was not as impressed as I thought. I gave such a generous rating because of the amazing service experienced.

This was probably the biggest treat ever! From the deep fried prawns to the sushi to the chocolate balls for dessert this was nothing short of AMAZING! Pics and recommendations will be to follow this post!

As soon as you walk in you are pleasantly welcomed with a cheer from the staff. Everything is so well synchronised. As expected the waitress knew the menu very well, and provided us with an endless amount of dishes to dazzle our tasbuds, and boy were they dazzled! So much flavour, from the simplest dish as the yellowtail starter, to the prawns, to the sea bass - my golly even the vegetables were the best I've personally ever had at a restaurant. The cheesecake was perfect-not too sweet. Eating here is definitely an experience, I recommend doing the meal sharing option so you get a taste of a little of everything as opposed to ordering your own full plate of food.

I will concede I walked into the lobby of the Nobu with a preconceived notion of what it would be<br/><br/>like. I was pleasantly surprised to find a warm, inviting and relaxed space, with a staff compliment<br/><br/>just as warm and inviting.<br/><br/>I don’t consider myself a Japanese food aficionado but like everyone else I have been to my fair<br/><br/>share of Japanese establishments. Wait... no nori, no rice; nothing rolled, shaped and moulded on<br/><br/>the menu was my retort. What followed though was a culinary journey bordering the sublime and a<br/><br/>range of wines perfectly matched and complimentary.<br/><br/>Louis Strydom (Winemaker and MD at Ernie Els Wines) struck a chord with his opening salvo when<br/><br/>he said something to the effect that wine and enjoying wine is such a subjective thing and that you<br/><br/>either like the taste or not, irrespective of the price tag. Feeling quietly vindicated I was ready to<br/><br/>immerse myself into this experience<br/><br/>If I had to be asked to describe the pairing for the first course, it would be “Fresh”. Tuna Hot Miso<br/><br/>Tacos paired with the Ernie Els Sauvignon Blanc, light and crisp slightly citrusy, cubed tuna in crispy<br/><br/>taco shells.<br/><br/>Our second course was the Salmon Karashi miso mustard like condiment used in Japanese dishes)<br/><br/>and Yellowtail Mango Salsa .This unassuming and seemingly simple dish served up one of the<br/><br/>surprises of the evening. A delightful berry, no bigger in size than an olive and similar in look and<br/><br/>texture called Yamamono (Japanese mountain peach). Slightly tart and sweet simultaneously, this<br/><br/>little gem is often used as a palate cleanser and proved to be quite the topic Accompanied by the<br/><br/>Ernie Els Chenin Blanc, a familiar easy drinking wine<br/><br/>The next course was the Beef Tataki with ponzu. Very delicately seared beef, cut into slivers similar<br/><br/>to sashimi accompanied with ponzu which is a soya based sauce with slight citrusy undertones. To<br/><br/>say this beef was soft and tender and literally would melt in your mouth is an understatement. The<br/><br/>Ernie Els Rose 2016 was used as accompaniment, slightly sweet for my personal taste but ably<br/><br/>managed to counter balance the soy/citrus ponzu.<br/><br/>What came next was the Beef fillet with the balsamic teriyaki. Any” Real” South African will find this<br/><br/>dish hard to fault, well prepared beef with a full-bodied, bold Cabernet Sauvignon …all the essential<br/><br/>food groups covered.<br/><br/>I unashamedly love pork belly to death, so it is with bated breath that I waited patiently for this<br/><br/>course to arrive and boy was it worth the wait. Fulfilling all the essential requirements, a crispy rind<br/><br/>with tender and soft flesh that dissipated as soon as it landed in your mouth, accompanied by the<br/><br/>star of the show for me, the Ernie Els Proprietors Syrah. Masterfully made with only the best fruit,<br/><br/>handpicked, as it should be.<br/><br/>The evening was closed off with a Suntory Cappuccino dessert, a delicate combination of cappuccino<br/><br/>mousse and Suntory Whisky. Suntory, A Japanese brewing and distillery company established in<br/><br/>1899 one of the oldest in Japan. I attempted to illicit the recipe from the chef, but he responded<br/><br/>with a toothy grin…I don’t think I’ll be getting it.<br/><br/>In conclusion, an amazing evening with even more amazing dishes. One would be hard –pressed to<br/><br/>find fault, if only to make an excuse just to do it all over again.

Beautiful restaurant understated Japanese touches, set within the beautiful One&Only hotel. Service was exceptional & the food was delicious! Bit pricey, but worth it!

Wow, wow!!!! We had the most amazing experience at Nobu. Our waiter, made the night extra special, he made excellent recommendations! The prices are so good for the amount and quality of food you get. Amazing food amazing evening, I can highly recommend Nobu!
Sameera Kaddoura
I've been there twice, the ambiance was amazing and great service. The food was incredible the first time, we had to go back. However the second time we got off tasting soft shell crab. Overall a great experience, but only good enough for 2 visits! I highly recommend the octopus, black cod and lobster!
Patience
Had my birthday dinner there yesterday along with my friends bday too. The place is just awesome, from the friendly hostess who called me during the afternoon to confirm about my allergy to seaweed her name was Emma I think right down to Sylvian our waiter who was very attentive and knew the perfect dishes to suggest to us seeing as it was our first time there. Service was very fast and the food delicious. The ambience is very relaxed and it's the perfect spot for great food and drinks. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't been as I certainly will be going back soon.

Everything about it was just as it's been described. World class service from booking, to follow ups. I walked in and they knew who I was and accommodated me. The time and effort to remember the little things was incredible. I loved being served like a queen. The food was obviously a jam! Had the Nobu 5.0 cocktail and wished I could take the recipe with me, exquisite mix! Virgin cocktails tend to be sweet, however that one was the right mix! <br/>Favorite part of the night was definitely dessert time! I had the chocolate bento box 😋😋😋, sensational! The fondant was the right amount of chocolate! The presentation was lovely. <br/>I absolutely enjoyed myself and will definitely be coming back when I'm in CT again. <br/><br/>Thanks Nobu for the commitment to excellence

Definetly my favourite restaurant in Cape Town! We had the yellow tail with jalapeños, tacos, crispy rice, edamame beans, spinach salad, and my very favourite Black Cod Fish! ❤ the service was excellent and it was lovely and warm inside. I will definetly recommend it to every one
Irina
Seriously the best sushi I've ever had in my life! Very classy place and beautiful interior. Staff are obviously well trained as service was phenomenal- would definitely recommend this place for any special occasion or date night!

I have been planning on trying nobu for years now but somehow something always comes up. This year when the restaurant appeared on the list of establishments which were taking part in restaurant week I grabbed the opportunity with two hands. As I booked through restaurant week I was expecting the five course meal stipulated on the websites but when we got there I was delighted to find out that I could increase that to an eight course meal at an extra cost. I obviously chose the right course meal. I have to give a shout out to our waiter tapiwa who gave us the best service we have ever experienced nobu is lucky to have him. Now for the food every course was perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious but my favorite was the spinach salad, mind blown. It is worth every penny even at full price I have to return soon.

I just don't get it! Reading the rave reviews on Nobu I can't help but wonder if I visited on an off night. I was so excited to go to Nobu, it was one of my prebirthday treats. But sadly, I found it overrated and overpriced. We had the spicy endamame, tempura calamari, tempura scallops, rock shrimp tempura, seafood toban yaki and beef tenderloin. Nothing stood out as great @to me. In fact, the seafood toban yaki felt like it was a mix of leftovers from other dishes. Dry and bland...all of one shrimp and two pieces of calamari.... very disappointing! The Bento Box was great and the cocktails were decent... we lost our waiter's interest midway through...so all in all...I will not go back in a hurry!
Nic Hern
One of the best finning experiences I've had in Cape Town! We went for restraunt week and had an amazing evening👍🏻 The tempura kingklip was a firm favorite and the sake cocktails were surprising delicious 🍶 The fact that the service in such a large restaurant was beyond amazing just added to the experience! I can highly recommend Nobu!

What a beautiful first time experience. <br/>Food & Service was PHENOMENAL ! <br/>Honestly, one of the best dates I've had in a very long time. <br/>We tried so many items on menu, YOU have to try them all ! <br/>Absolute favourite item was the NASU MISO. <br/>It's a sweet miso glazed eggplant. <br/>See you again soon !! <br/><br/>

Nobu - A modern twist to Asian fine dining ,From the booking to the service to the food and staff. The decor is stylish and smart , the food looks and tastes great. We were served and talked through each dish that we ordered. We also received a complimentary dessert due to a celebration. An impeccable restaurant and a significant experience overall. 👌🏻❤️

Exceptional food and service at Nobu. The dishes are well presented and well thought -out. Service was really impeccable - nothing short of 5 stars. I asked our waiter for a drink that was no longer on the menu and they designed a new version for me, no problem. The new style sashimi was so delicious, as was everything else.  Highly recommend the seafood Toban Yaki as a hot main dish. Food is prepared quickly. Cocktails are different and delightful. Will definitely be back in the near future.

Lovely restaurant, good service when you do get it. The food exceptional. Ordered the Black Cod NYC style it was delicious. We also ordered the Beef Teriyaki...outstanding.

I have been to 3 different Nobu Resturant around the world. This is by far my least favorite. The ambiance is great, service is fantastic but the food quality is not up to Nobu's standards. <br/><br/>The oysters were fresh so was the sashimi. The brown rice, edamame, and maki were poor.
Kayla Liversage
Great food and lovely staff! A MUST for anyone looking for an exceptional night of fine dining! Will definitely recommend to anyone who loves & appreciates good food. :)
Joana Batista
Terrible...<br/>The staff is great, the área os beautiful but that's just that.<br/>We tried the sushi and it worst experience ever... Very expensive and bad. If you want good sushi, that's not the place. Except if you like wasabi.<br/>Never again...
Direshan Pillay
Excellent food, excellent service, great ambience<br/><br/>Visited for my birthday and was treated to the Chef's and standard set menu without wine pairings.<br/>The food is eaten in tapas style with each dish shared. Awesome sushi (if you like sashimi), the black cod was to die for, the fried rice and soft shelled crab was divine a must to try.<br/><br/>They are a bit pricey but definitely worth it to try it once.
Morgan Lehy
I genuinely have no criticism. Incredible food, staff, cocktails and ambiance. The new style sashimi and either one of the tacos, both are amazing, will have you hooked. The meals are worth every cent, and I would even consider selling my kidney if it means that I could get an endless supply of the soft shell crab rolls.
Jack Gorton
Wow. Amazing dinner, amazing service and ambience. I went with my lovely wife on the eve of my birthday and all I can say is phenomenal!<br/>We had the shiitake mushroom salad which was off the chain, the deep fried garlic and sesame seeds made the dish. The cauliflower jalepeno was just insanely good. The Peruvian style beef skewer, the meat was cooked to perfection, the sauce was one of the most delicious sauces I have ever tasted and the veg were delicious. I had lobster taco, the lobster was sweet, and delicious. The spicy vegetables were also very good. The only dish that was normal was the tempura prawn sushi. We are going back this week. Era Ace

Amazing food and dining experience. I can really say that my dinner at Nobu was special, the food the service...all exceptional.<br/><br/>The platters and desserts are all amazing! <br/><br/>Great venue as well
Ravi Govender
On the food front, exceptional. Yellowtail with Jalapeño, new style salmon sashimi were wonderful starters and the spinach salad was worth the effort of getting the booking on its own with the most remarkable combination of flavors. Blackened Cod was all it's cracked up to be as was the tempura. Only quibble was horrible music played way too loud...if you need the music volume to ensure that diners don't eavesdrop on each other, you've gotten something wrong in your restaurant design surely? Still, great experience

Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, famously known as Nobu, is a Japanese master chef, and his restaurant was our first ever experience at a Michelin-starred establishment. Now let met tell you, for amazing quality you will need to bring your filled wallet because Nobu is not cheap in any sense of the word. Even their greeting felt expensive. As we were being led to our table by the hostess she screamed something in Japanese (I’m assuming) at the kitchen and the entire kitchen screamed something back.
Mcebisi
Nobu made my 30th birthday a gastronomical orgasm . The knowledge of the menu by waiters. The flow of the service. The styling of the service. The foooood!!! If you are in cape town looking for an experience. This is it!!!

Worldly renowned brand in fusion Japanese cuisine, one would expect the greatest amount of attention to detail, and immaculate execution and presentation of the dish. We opted for the signature 8 course set menu. Starting with the 3 variation of sashimi - yellow tail, salmon and a white fish. 10/10<br/>Second dish was a seared tuna, 10/10. Although we had to correct the waiter as they presented it as seared salmon. Third dish was the tempura shrimp salad, mind blowing 10/10. Fourth dish was the sushi, in flavor fantastic, but the wrapping lacked precision 7/10. Fifth dish was the black cod, wrapped in banana leaves, the best for the night10/10. Six dish - beef teriyaki, with mash and veg, we found it out of place and too heavy 6/10. Seven dish - miso soup, as traditional in ending a Japanese meal 8/10. For desert they served the chocolate fondant, accompanied with macha ice cream, it was decadent and perfect in texture 10/10. <br/>The presentation was amazing, but we felt the meals were coming out too fast, we didn't even have time to discuss and appreciate the dish before the next dish was served. Service and hospitality was lacking, even though you get the grand Japanese greeting by all when you come down into the dining area, the warmth quickly wears off with the waiters. One would expect world renowned service, to accompany the brand unfortunately they failed last night on that point, and not all dishes were perfectly executed, which is why they scored a 3 with me.

Nobu is somewhere you go when you want to treat yourself. The food is excellent - the sushi is super fresh and the beef teriyaki was done to perfection. I highly recommend the beef tenderloin set dinner.<br/><br/>The real winner is dessert. We had the chocolate bento box and the chocolate tart. Amazing! The chocolate tart is more of an experience but the chocolate bento box is definitely the tastier of the two.<br/><br/>Our waitress was super friendly but quite scarce. We had to keep getting her attention throughout the night, but a really great dining experience overall!

Nobu is one of those special places you should go out of your way to get to. Really had an amazing experience, our senses were stimulated across all ranges of flavour and texture. Sweet, sour, spicy, rich, fresh, crunchy, velvety. They have it all. The staff are extremely professional and competent, but not uncomfortably so - they make you feel like family yet keep an air of respectfulness, a combination which is hard to pull off. I highly recommend the Australian wagyu beef toban yaki, and the crispy rice dish (although you are fine ordering anything, as it is all sublime). Exquisite wines to enhance the experience. Definitely a memorable experience.

Nobu is situated inside Sol Kertzner`s One and Only hotel as you enter the V&A waterfront. This is a top notch evening venue in my opinion at least and an experience of a lifetime. Here you will get 6  star food and 2 star service unfortunately and loads of pretentious people enjoying a night out. Book in advance.

The greeting alone puts you in the best Mood. They welcome you with a loud & traditional Japanese cheer, which echoes through the restaurant. It's lovely! <br/>I am personally obsessed with their Spinach salad, I highly recommend anyone that enjoys their greens to try this superb dish. <br/>Another super healthy & tasty veggie dish was the Steamed broccoli with chili Salsa, WOW! The chili salsa was phenomenal. Along with these super veggies I had chicken teriyaki which was perfectly seasoned & left me speechless. <br/>I'll definitely be back for more.

The minute you walk into this Japanese haven, all the waiters welcome you by shouting a traditional greeting to make you feel special, which you hear throughout the night as each guest walks in. We wanted to try as much as we could stomach so we started off with the Baby spinach salad with dried miso as well as the tempura prawns. The waiter recommended them as their most popular dishes & I understand why. They were both very tasty. We also had the squid pasta, miso soup, pork belly, sushi, which also pleasantly good. Lastly we had the tenderloin of beef teriyaki with wasabi pepper sauce. This was by far the best dish out of all them. Never had such tender meat in my life! Definetly met my standards.

Cold night in Cape Town and decided to try Nobu for a change of pace. The restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere and the staff very welcoming. The menu was pretty extensive and I took ages to figure out what to have. I started with the lobster tacos (interesting), went on to prawn tempura (amazing with the 3 sauces) and had the omakase dessert (collection of 4 small desserts) of which the malva pudding was my favorite. Of course - I had to have sake (Kinpaku) which was very good. <br/><br/>Overall - it was an awesome experience and would definitely go back for a special occasion or business deal.

Great place for a really fancy dinner. Wonderful ambience and all round fabulous experience. I tried the sushi for starters and the kingklip ponzu as a main. I was accommodated well in that the kingklip was battered in Soda water and not beer. Extremely helpful wait staff who know their menu inside out.<br/>Worth a try. But only after payday 😉

Had Nobu Room Service while staying at the One & Only Hotel, and was blown away by the service and quality. I'm not used to such a high standard for a room-service facility.<br/>Will definitely dine-in at the restaurant next time I'm there!

We were a party of six last night and it was a good experience overall but theres much to be said about the service. Drinks took forever to come and when i ordered a bottle of wine it took them 10 minutes to check if they have the wine, only to come back with the wrong bottle. And when i told the waitress her response was "Really?!". <br/><br/>Tried a sake cocktail but it was made super strong ito the alcohol ratio.<br/><br/>Food was excellent! The menu is super confusing though. The waitress went through her explanation so quickly i literally ordered things i managed to hear clearly. <br/><br/>Baby spinach salad is really good. So is the tuna tataki but at R240 for a starter portion i would say do the crispy rice or beef tataki instead. Had the shrimp and lobster salad but the prawns were overcooked and the lettuce leaves are way too big to eat with chopsticks so i ended up eating it with my hand. <br/><br/>Fish and chips looked good and apparently tasted good too. So was the pork belly, duck with chilli miso and duck with orange miso.<br/><br/>I had the wing rib for mains which was nice and spicy. Cauliflower jalapeno and spicy broccoli on the side at almost R100 each with abovementioned bottle of wine at triple the retail price. <br/><br/>Hubby did an asparagus side which was R195 😳<br/><br/>Dessert was ok. Coconut ice cream was refreshing. <br/><br/>Add some San Pellegrino at R85 bottle and some java at R30 a pop and you're done.

When you dine at Nobu you expect the Nobu experience: finest Japanese cuisine served in a modern and tasteful setting and, of course, outstanding service. International standards, no compromise. Sadly, the Cape Town Nobu experience failed to deliver.<br/><br/>Our group of seven friends dined there on Saturday night. We ordered a wide variety of the mouthwatering selection of dishes and shared them. They were generally delicious although some were cold. <br/><br/>Dessert was a mixed bag. The chocolate tart was delectable and impressively presented, but the fruit niwa was little more than a bog-standard breakfast fruit salad. The malva pudding was an ungenerous portion.<br/><br/>That said, the food scores a solid 4/5.<br/><br/>The service was quite simply abysmal. Our waitron was inattentive, leaving us for long periods. When we occasionally managed to flag down one of his colleagues, they were little better. Basic training and etiquette seems to have been overlooked (in the usual Cape Town restaurant tradition). We became so frustrated that I phoned the Nobu booking line from our table, in an effort to gain attention. Needless to say, my call was answered by a recorded message, providing no relief whatsoever. It is noteworthy that our table was never visited by the manager to inquire about the quality of our experience. Strange, when one considers that the restaurant was half empty. <br/><br/>Service scores 1/5, merely in recognition of the fact that food and drink was eventually served at our table.<br/><br/>The restaurant is a stylish, sensitively lit and decorated, triple volume space with a huge dining area. However, the incessant beat of the dance music, which played throughout dinner, was jarring and out of kilter with a sophisticated dining experience. Ambience scores 3/5.<br/><br/>At R650 a head this was a disappointing dining experience, and not one which I would recommend or repeat.

Nobu is one of the very few places in Cape Town that has a diverse range sushi, I'm talking sushi with scallop, sea urchin, eal and a few more. Took my wife there for her birthday. We had oysters so fresh it tasted like an ocean breeze. The sushi was extraordinary, each and every piece was considered in presentation and quality. The service was great, so was the ambience given the size of the venue.

Finding a Nobu if there is one in every major city we visit is always on our list of restaurants to try out. The only one in South Africa is housed in the famous One & Only in Cape Town. <br/><br/>I am always reminded as to why we love Nobu. Last night we popped in rather late for some snacks (and Sake, actually mostly Sake) after a function next door.<br/><br/>Service was friendly and efficient as always. I let the chef choose dishes for our party of 7 at his discretion and he didn't fail us once. For the newbies to Nobu, they were totally converted. Black Cod is still the hero dish on the menu.<br/><br/>Their YK35 sake is the one to go for...

You can't go wrong in Nobu. My favorite of course is Black cod miso which is amazing. Everything we ordered was delicious: tuna tataki with ponzu, shrimp tempura with three kinds of sauces and so on. Going back very soon. The restaurant was full on Friday night. Great local wines available

Been dying to go to Nobu and finally got a reservation. It's a must try to come when you in Cape Town. It is situated in the stunning One and Only Hotel near the Waterfront. Great views all around. Decor inside the restaurant is stunning. I had the tasting menu which comprised of 8 courses so I had the chance to try a bit of everything. Service was quick and efficient. Waiters very friendly. No complaints with the food I enjoyed it. It's a must try to come and visit! Try the apple martini it was delicious!
LuluFromJozi
For the price, you would expect exceptional food, but the fact is, its just above average. Most of their fish is on the SASSI orange or even endangered list, which is a big negative for me. Decor is truly unique though and the loud greeting as you enter does bring a cool, new kind of atmosphere, but the service is really not great. Our waitress didn't smile once and we had to wait a lot to get her or another's attention.
The Foodie Corner
Since we were totally put off Reuben's after our disastrous experience at the Robertson Small Hotel, we decided to give Nobu a try. With a Japanese / Peruvian inspired menu, we had absolutely no idea what half of the food was, let alone what it would taste like. In fact, we were quite anxious about eating here not only because we didn't know what to order, but also because we had heard that it was totally overpriced for food that wasn't all that great. <br/><br/>But we were pleasantly surprised! Upon arriving, we were taking to a table upstairs, which turned out to be quite nice because it was very private and situated away from the busy main section of the restaurant downstairs. We told our waitress that we had absolutely no idea what we wanted to eat and she was more than happy to assist us, patiently explaining each item on the menu and giving her own recommendations.<br/><br/>At the end of the day, I couldn't decide what to order because every dish sounded amazing, so I opted for the 8 course tasting menu. What makes this option unique is that it changes every day according to what the chef decided he wants to dish up today. And the food you get can't be ordered from the menu - it's totally unique. It consisted of 3 cold dishes, 4 hot dishes, plus dessert. I started with a sort of scallop mousse - absolutely devine and a perfect combination of taste and texture. This was followed by a tuna sashimi salad, which was by far the standout dish of the night! The tuna was melt in your mouth soft and the sauce was perfection! I could literally have finished a whole bowl of that sauce! Next was some sushi - 3 pieces of nigiri and 3 california rolls. I must say, it was a bit tasteless and it was probably the least enjoyable dish of the night. I then moved onto the warm dishes - beef fillet, duck with orange and white linefish. All 3 of these dishes were amazing. The fish had a wonderfully crispy skin, the fillet was soft and tender. The duck was by far my favorite warm dish. Finally, I was served a tomato based tofu soup. Or more of a broth, which tasted alright, but personally I don't like broths, so I didn't quite enjoy it. But I'm glad I had the opportunity to taste it. For dessert, I had a delicious berry nougat ice cream served with a berry compote and caramelized mango. Delicious!<br/><br/>I also tasted Nobu's fish and chips and the Lintt chocolate dessert, both of which were devine! <br/><br/>Overall, service was great, food was great and atmosphere was 5/5! Even for such great food, I still think it's overpriced, but for a special evening it was well worth it!<br/><br/>Top tips: Bring your own wine! The wine on their menu is ridiculously expensive! If you're ordering for the menu, the fish and chips comes highly recommended - definitely a standout dish! If you're a couple going out for a romantic dinner, request a table upstairs. Do indulge in the 8 course tasting menu - it's well worth it's weight in gold!

Restaurace primo v hotelu. Snidanove menu ustrice, vlastni pekarna, hromady orisku vsech druhu, cerstve oboce i dzusy. Uvedomely a vstricny personal. Jo a skvely omelety !

So we have all heard about this for years and finally got to try it. The restaurant itself lives up to its name and reputation but it's good is a bit disappointing. The taco's needed flavour and the crab was a very small portion. A lovely evening though with knowledgeable friendly waiters.

Started well, valet parking professional. Hotel is stunning. Expecting a flawless experience within such an establishment, our party of 6 left however bemused and hungry. Decor is sophisticated but service not. Only dish suggested was seafood platter for 4 (note we were 6). Assured that the platter was more than sufficient we ordered it. It wasnt. Barely enough for 2..and having pointed out we were 6..we received 2 more crayfish and 2 more langoustine. Bewildered..more food ordered. One order was forgotten. Service was bog standard from a team clearly not aware of what was expected of them at such a vaunted venue. Souless ambience. Forgettable evening but hotel is somewhere to return to for a crack at Reubens or just sundowners at a bar that will have your jaw drop.

Sophisticated and fancy is what you should expect at Nobu. Having been to the ones in the USA and Dubai which I loved I was very keen to try one in my city. <br/><br/>We ordered the creamy spicy prawn tempura for starters which were divine and for mains I ordered the chicken teriyaki which comes with rice and miso soup and my boyfriend had the salmon teriyaki which comes with the same. Both were great however the portions are small so if you are big eater some sushi as a side dish would be a good idea. <br/><br/>The service is welcoming and extremely attentive. I love the setting, it is perfect for evening dinners with a partner or family. The food is great, however the portions should be slightly bigger other than that Nobu is a great choice.

I was quite exited about going to Nobu for the first time. The staff really make you feel welcome and they were very helpful in deciding what to order. We had some of the sushi of which the spicy tuna was the best. The crispy rice was also very yummy as well as the pork belly and the rock shrimp. Everything was very good but I was expecting the food to be of a higher quality especially due to the prices.

A nice place to go for a "fancy" night out. <br/>The food was fresh and tasty. <br/>The servers were a bit pushy and somehow got us to try the chefs special. It was incredibly expensive and we were so full half way through that we couldn't finish. What we did have we enjoyed. <br/>Would go back as I am sure the menu changes frequently and will be more cautious about the servers "suggestions".

Authentic Japanese flavors in an upmarket package. I ate at Nobu while at the One and Only, and was pleasantly surprised. I have eaten at many Japanese restaurants in South Africa but none have captured the flavors I experienced in Japan until nobu. The miso soup is spot on, the sushi is excellent, the lobster ramen amazing, and the tempura prawns with three dipping sauces had me smiling. <br/><br/>The menu has a diverse range Japanese style food and drinks, with imported Japanese beer, a wide range of sake, and a few good Japanese whiskeys just to make sure. The waitress was polite and attentive, happy to explain the menu and make recommendations. <br/><br/>Prices are high, ramen in Tokyo is about R20 whereas at nobu it was R250, but we are not in Tokyo, and nobu is aware of that fact. Despite the price I will definitely be going back to Nobu soon.

The pace is really the definition of modern contemporary Japanese cuisine. In fact the menu is unique for all Nobu outlets. The desserts are definitely a must have. The coffees were a bit disappointing. The cocktails are quite unique with specialized names ie. "Nobu 5.0" but so worth it. The kind and well trained staff do not fail in any aspect and deserve a thumbs up. The place is really high end so be sure to dress up. Most of all, enthrall your tastebuds with unique tastes.
Shamen Raja
We had a pleasant enough dinner though overall Nobu did not live up to its reputation. Service was "ok"..a bit unpolished. There were a few good dishes but nothing memorable that justified the price we paid. Left feeling disappointed.
William Hillock
Another standard place to go when you feel like getting dressed up! Having been to multiple Nobu's around the world, I can safely say this is the best in my experience. Super fresh ingredients and really great service make the high prices worthwhile.

Nobu was an average restaurant and definitely downgraded from my past experience. The chef malaise menu was disappointing as ever dish seemed to be lacking a flavour one would somewhat anticipate. The obento was a good combination, the kingklip nuggets was perfection. The sushi was done very well, I must admit for the sashimi prices, it is very competitive pricing and very good! Thumbs up for the sushi chef. I wouldn't visit anytime soon unless it is for simple sushi and sashimi. <br/><br/>The waitering staff needs to be trained to enhance the overall experience.
The Cape Town Glutton
I really enjoyed going to Nobu. It was not as great as the hype everyone made it out to be and the menu was very confusing but the food was tasty and they have delicious chocolate filled doughnuts which were worth the trip to Nobu. Unfortunately the sushi was not the highlight for me.

Nobu at the One & Only Hotel is a posh Japanese restaurant that is part of a global chain. Nobu is a famous restaurant that has outlets all across the world. It is known for its quality and excellent food. <br/><br/>While the food was without a doubt stunning, specially my beef teriyaki main course, it is the service at this restaurant which I find appalling. They were very indifferent, there was a mix up with the reservation and it really is the tone and way people approach a situation, they didn't seem particularly sorry about the mix up. We were a table of 9 and yes it can get confusing and tiresome taking orders and pandering to so many different wants but that really is the job.<br/><br/>Thankfully, the food was superb and everyone enjoyed everything from the Edamame beans, mushroom salad, beef mains ( two different ones which I can't particularly rem ) and of course lots of sushi and sashimi.<br/><br/>Would I go back ? to this particular one, probably not but to another Nobu absolutely ! The only reason I've given it a 4 star rating is for their food. Which made me forget about the lackluster service for a bit.

I have every Nobu book ever written so I was overly excited to finally get to try the dishes. We went with our best friends so the company was deliceous.<br/><br/>Fortunately we weren't hungry so we could savour the food. Our budget does not allow for hunger. We shared for the Lobster Ceviche, shitake Salad, Lobster Salad, Rock Shrimp Temura, chicken and Wagyu. <br/><br/>Although we thoroughly enjoyed the experience even though the food did not match my imagination and with so many places to try in Cape Town don't think we would hurry back

The famous nobu in a fantastic new hotel 'one and only' in Cape Town. Tried the chef special 7 course dinner with wine pairing. It was total food orgasm. Loved every dish. Superb presentation. Fantastic taste. Has spoiled me for wannabe sushi places in india. Service was not over the top But attentive. Ambience perfect rich yet relaxing. Could not walk to my room after all that wine and sushi. :).

Nobu is incredible! Our waiter, Charlton, was divine and the food was some of the best I've eaten. I had two different cocktails and both were superb - really great quality ingredients. <br/><br/>Reading the poor reviews confuses me, it was honestly one of my best dining experiences.

I am a massive fan of Nobu! My first choice for sushi when in the mother city. I highly recommend sitting at the sushi bar and letting the sushi chef get creative with your plate of sushi!

Great vibe, great service, great food. A little on the pricey side but the experience totally makes up for it. I will go back one day knowing my finances are in check

The food and service we received were exceptional. Make sure you try the Desert Omakase, a selection of Nobu classics. Was an excellent end to an amazing evening.

Lovely location, waiters were on point, the food came to our table almost instantly & when it came the food was nothing short of amazing! A great place to have tickled mine & my family taste buds.

Unfortunately I had a much better experience at Nobu Dubai. These aren't the standards of food/atmosphere I remember.<br/>The food is obviously expensive but the quality doesn't have the wow factor
Jonathan Layton-Nel
I went to Nobu for the first time in March 2014 and regrettably again in August. The first experience was mediocre and the second was abysmal. The service was as expected and the ambiance was smart but pretentious. <br/><br/>The food.... For a restaurant that has an international reputation, I was horribly disappointed by what I received. The food was common and unexceptional. It was something I would expect from a Westernised "Asian" canteen. THE BILL - when I saw it I was even more horrified. The best thing of the night was the Rupert and Rothschild Chardonnay that allowed to palate cleanse, after each dreary course. <br/><br/>At this stage let me say, that I have no problem paying money for good food at a top restaurant.... needless to say, this is not a 'top restaurant' it is a waste of time and money. If you are planning on taking friends or family here for a fab time, hmmmm.....i would perhaps do a little more research.

Just as you would expect, this dining room is impressive- high ceilings, plush carpets and glamorous lighting. The menu is extensive, and covers all styles of Japanese food - Nobu is about so much more than just sushi. I love Oshinko (traditional pickled vegetables) and the Oshinko dish at Nobu was the best I've ever had. Miso glazed black cod was just as expected for the signature dish- beatutiful. The new-style tuna sushi was just too delicious, it's a pity we had to share it! <br/>The prices are steep, and this is definitely a 'special occasion' restaurant, but Nobu will deliver a dining experience to remember. <br/>The only down side was that our service was generally good, but not nearly 5 Star standard to stand up next to the sensational food.
Verushka Bhagaloo
I went to Nobu a few years ago when I was in CT ... and shared the 7 course meal with a friend (the cost of it being much too high) ... it was a tasting menu and so full of flavour ... the fish was fresh and just amazing flavours ... what stands out for me was the chocolate fondant and green tea ice cream. It was my first experiment with fondant ... and have not since tasted fondant as good as that ...<br/><br/>Nobu is a highly elite place to eat ... go only if you have enough money available, and maybe for very special occasions ... but definitely go :)
