Review Villa 47 - Cape Town Central

We had a beautiful evening upstairs tonight. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Our waiter was smiling and so attentive throughout the whole dinner. If you are looking for a place to go on a romantic date - upstairs is great If you are looking for a more of a vibe 🎶 then downstairs is a good idea 🥰 Thank you for a wonderful evening and excellent service - you really provide an experience for customers and it doesn’t go unnoticed 🫶

We had a small family gathering & we choose this restaurant, an absolutely unknown venue. Well what a pleasant surprise, as you walk into this venue you are greeted by such friendly staff. The ambiance of this restaurant is something to experience it's Italy in Cape Town. The interior is on point & it just works so well. It give you that fuzzy welcome feeling, well done guys. We placed our orders & were blown away by the presentation & taste. I had the pork belly & loved ever morsal. Loved the menu will be back to try other dishes. If you are in Cape Town looking for authentic Italian cooking, this is your place. To the management and staff thank you for a great experience & for providing an exquisite Locanda. Kind regards Ferdie Liebenberg

Excellent food. Pricey, but so very tasty. Service was excellent. They were very helpful with placing a ramp for my friend’s mother’s wheelchair. Acoustics not great. Very loud. So not good for romantic whispers.

The service was good. Food was good and delicious. Although it was busy, the wait to receive food was short. They have a wide selection of fine wine to choose from. Would definitely recommend.

I went there in the week for supper. First of all it is a fine dining place so be prepared to spend approximately R400 up. The atmosphere and decor was great. The menu on my part was limited since I don’t eat beef or pork. They had 6 pastas in total with only a beef, seafood and veggies options. They had your mains which mostly wasn’t Italian so I opted for the pasta. On the night they did have a special on the board of starters and pastas that weren’t on the menu and for a slightly cheaper price. Glasses of wines ranged from R75 and up and cocktails were R80 and up. The service was great as our waiter always checked up on us and the food came out quickly. Our waiter was friendly but seemed to be quite young so when we asked for wine recommendations he was unsure but asked his manager. The portions sizes were decent and another waiter came by with a block of Parmesan to grate on-top of your food which was awesome. The dessert was yummy. I’m all for my veggies main, wine and dessert my bill came to R440 with tip. It wasn’t a mind blowing experience as compared to the delicious food seen on insta. But it was a good experience regardless

Definitely recommend one of the best restaurants I’ve visited now while in Cape Town, the server i guess his name was kanisu super helpful and polite, he knew we dont eat anything thats not halal and help us out with ordering. Such an amazing experience must vist.

The food was decent, service good, nice location and atmosphere as well. I found the prawns a tad bland, aside from that it was good

Great for breakfast. Friendly staff. They make awesome hot drinks as well.

The food was unbelievable, the best pasta I have ever had. This is a very upmarket and stylish restaurant with amazing service and really great Italian food. It is situated on the very popular Bree Street in Cape Town cbd. It is a very popular place and this is not surprising ! Highly recommended

We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Villa 47 and highly recommend it to anyone around. It provides excellent Italian taste abroad! My photos do not convey the full richness of the food. The server Trésor was extremely polite and made us feel at home!

Great Italian food - the pasta is incredible. Which I find rare in this day and age. Prices are towards the high side of things, but they always have alot of specials on. Really nice atmosphere in the courtyard, and it's especially nice for cocktails. Can also highly recommend the chocolate fondant!!

Great food and atmosphere (as per usual). However upon settlement of the bill while we were still drinking our bottle of wine, we were asked to move tables (I had booked our table) in order for other guests to utilize our table. A great evening with a bit of a bitter ending.

Villa 47. ordered spagetti carbonara yesterday. the egg was overcooked and became scrambled. when i notified the manager i was told that is the the way it is made. spagetti with scrambled egg. did not finish the meal. i could not decide if it was the meal or the arrogance that upset me most.
johann van der vyver

My past experiences at Villa 47 were great, which is why I was so disappointed this evening after receiving terrible service.

When I phoned to make a dinner reservation, I asked to sit in the courtyard area, as that is where I have eaten before. I had specifically mentioned to the guy on the phone that we were coming for dinner. When we arrived, we were seated but it wasn't until about 45 min later that we were told we can't order from the main menu in the courtyard area, only in the main restaurant.

On top of that, the waiters ignored us for most of the evening, we weren't attended to and we struggled to get anyone's attention if we needed anything. They took forever to serve us and bring us our food and drinks. To say the service was pathetic is an understatement.

We asked for our left over pasta to be packed in a takeaway box. It was wrapped in foil, and put in a paper bag. Really strange for the caliber of restaurant!

Overall, a really disappointing and frustrating experience.

Lovely ambiance, great food and prompt service. Their pastas are all delicious and the food came out surprisingly quickly. Followed with a marvelous pavlova for dessert, is definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in the city

After a disappointing experience at Hemelhuijs we walked across & walked into Villa 47 with no booking. The service was excellent, the waiter was attentive and pleasant. We definitely will be back! Thank you!

The steak with truffle fries is really good. The meat is well cooked and flavored and I could’ve eaten 4 or 5 portions of the fries easily. They’re that good. The service is a bit slow but the food makes up for it.

I had not made a booking ( it was a Monday night) and was offered a table in the courtyard which has comfortable sets, it’s own bar and gas heaters . Food was ok ( good but not brilliant) but Mel was rather spoiled by the arrival of a large rat - it must have been 8 or 9 inches long and stopped under my table before ambling off behind the bar - staff seemed quite casual about it all .... put my right off my meal

I've been wanting to try Villa 47 for really long, as per a friend's recommendation. I had been before, but only for tapas, this time I went to the full menu part of the restaurant. I really enjoyed my dinner, apparently the Seared Tuna dish is quite popular there so that's what I opted for, I was not disappointed at all. It was a little more on the raw side than I had expected, but still very good nonetheless.
We had a very friendly waitress, however, our service did drop quite substantially once the restaurant got full so that was the only downfall. I do think that there is small room for improvement with regards to the plating and presentation of the food.

Overall, a nice experience and I'll definitely be back!

What a great evening. The delightful waiter really made our night! Home made pasta really cooked to perfection. Pricey but worth it I’d say.

Went to Pieroni Penatti. Lovely experience. Attentive service...polite, friendly and polished staff who knew the menu and drinks.
Food was excellent, in good time and prepped with much attention to detail with immaculate presentation.
Perfect for a special or quieter exclusive dining experience.
Villa 47 is a gem in the centre of town. It is quite pricey but food is good and so is the service. Personal favourite is the seared tuna - usually on the board.

Food: 3
Service: 2
Ambiance: 3

Just a normal average Italian restaurant nothing special. Food is good so won’t be disappointed. Try the desserts that’s worth the wait!

One of my favourite restaurants. The Villa 47 Tortellini is absolutely delicious and worth trying (if it’s not your go-to already). Highly recommended for lunch or dinner.
Foodlover
Great ambience. Before our meals arrived, we nibbled on a variety of delicious breads from the baskets on the table, delicious. Had pasta for main meal, not particularly exciting or flavorful. We shared a cheese platter, and the cheeses were exceptional. Service friendly and efficient. Would recommend this restaurant for a shared cheese platter

I often walked passed the terrace area and saw a beautiful wood interior with high delicate hanging lights. The most attention paid to small detail here from service to food toppings and side servings.i ordered the Villa salad with a poached egg. The complimentary bread filled me up but the salad was lovely (artichoke lettuce, edamame beans, parmesan) . Don't over do the dressing like I did.

Great spot for drinks and dessert. Apart from the food, the service is very attentive which I enjoyed.

I’ve only yet to experience ‘Locanda’ which is on the lowest level out of the three. Always opting for the pasta and risotto options, I recently tried the seared tuna upon our waiter’s recommendation and I was not disappointed. The lamb chops are also perfection.

If you’re ordering starters, you better be starving because the portions are big enough to share among 2 people.

Their wine list is definitely better than the usual and I took a while to decide because so many of my favourites were on the list. The cocktails are magnificent too, the ‘My Lady’ which is gin-based is one of my favourites.

If you have friends in town or want a really lovely spot for a date night, this spot is in my top 10.

Awesome lunch spot overlooking the happenings of Bree Street. Enjoyed an ice cold bottle of sparkling water and delicious Caesar Salad of the perfect portion. The chicken livers were a delicious combination of Italian flavours and South African food. Beautiful spot and so suited for trendy Bree Street.

🇮🇹Villa 47 is an Italian gastronomic imperium located in a three storey building that houses 3 different restaurants under one roof 🏠🍴 one of the restaurants (Pierino Penati) is run by Michelin-star chef👨🏽‍🍳... if that doesn't speak to the quality of food one is to except, then we don't know what will...

Villa 47 is arguably the more affordable of the 3 restaurants, and we would still consider it quite pricey👀: we must concede however that while that is the case, the food is delicious 👌🏾 we have been for numerous breakfasts, brunches and lunches... never dinner but we've been impressed each time.

We've also stopped by for cocktails (Aperol Spritz to be specific 🍹) and dessert on an off-chance afternoon 🍮 for the wine lovers, they have annin-house sommelier to assist you in pairing your food to some incredible local 🇿🇦 and international 🌍 wines 🍷🍷🍷

*TIP: make sure to make a reservation because it tends to get full, especially for breakfast on the weekend, lunches all week and dinner ☎️

The service was great and I loved the ambiance and decor. Starters were fresh and really quick despite the full restaurant - we shared the villa 47 salad and carpaccio. I had the prawn pasta which was a bit dry and unsatisfactory, but my fiancé had the Villa 47 tortellini which was amazing! I would definitely be back to try something else on the menu, and will definitely try the sister restaurants upstairs!

Crazy. Four of us ordered Kingklip and Yellow Tail meal was served without informing us that they ran out of kingklip. So Disappointed. The owner tried as much to avoid us and manager tried his best but it was a horrible experience.

Apart from the food and dessert being amazing, what stood out to me the most was the service. From outside the resturant right through to being seated and served, it was a breath of fresh air. Our waiter definitely added to our experience, he was attentive and efficient.

We dined on the first level and opted to sit in the courtyard which was really nice. I love the overall look and feel of the resturant from a decor perspective. It’s modern and contemporary with an undercurrent of Italian culture - but in the most refined was possible.

The food arrived at our table literally minutes after placing our order. The ravioli I ordered was super light and delicious. I loved the addition of chili which really made the dish.

For dessert I opted for the creme catalan which came recommended by the waiter. It was beautiful, super silky and creamy. It’s very rich / on the sweet side so best you share.

Amazing service, even better food. Great vibe and amazing manager Rosslyn looked after us from start to finish. Would DEFINITELY recommend this tk anyone in the area. I had the most amazing veal dish. While my husband and best friend had incredible and flavourful pasta dishes!

Some time ago I attended a dinner party through the uKitchen app. Seated at the table with wine makers, one of the wine maker's wives told me about this place and how life changing the chicken liver dish was. And since then I've been wanting to pay this restaurant a visit.

Since the chicken liver dish is a starter, and I didn't want a massive lunch; I decided to order two starters instead of a starter and a main. My second starter was the villa salad.

Let's start with those livers... I sat with an empty plate till the end, refusing them to clear it from the table; simply because I wanted to lap up all that delicious sauce with that gorgeous complementary bread until there was not a drop left. That wine maker's wife knows what she's talking about.

The salad was equally as gorgeous! Massive portion and by no means a starter (unless you're sharing). Loved the way the toasted pine nuts worked with the edamame. Sublime!

Definitely returning! I saw a few gorgeous pasta dishes served to surrounding tables that I'm dying to try.

Update: returned for breakfast. Croissants are amazing! Scrambled eggs so creamy. Chorizo full of flavour! Huge portions that I couldn’t finish. I get why this is such a popular weekend brunch spot.

Villa 47 is definitely worth visiting. We sat out at the courtyard which really added to the great ambiance. The portions were sizeable, and the food did not disappoint :)

i had been before but yesterday we went for a 21st so we had a set menu . The restaurant is super lovely and the service is on par. I had the salmon which was lovely while my friends had lamb which was nice and tender!:) The bread and butter was also a win. Truly enjoyed the experience

This restaurant has built up a good reputation and i’m glad it lived up to my expectations. Service is my first priority and Villa 47 did not disappoint, out waiter was always available and prompt. As this is an Italian restaurant i had to try out the beef tortellini and it was marvelous! I’ll definitely be returning to try out more items from their menu.

Feel and look: Villa has a great ambience. It was busy and bustling. It has a nice modern, romantic feel with dim lighting. The tables for two inside are nice and big so you don't end up feeling like there isn't enough space for all the plates and glassware.

Service: Top notch! Our waiter was extremely attentive, friendly and polite. The manager also popped by a few times to check on us. Our wine and sparkling water was topped up all the time, and the food came out quickly.

Food: We had the seared tuna and the seafood pasta. The tuna was amazing! Cooked to perfection with delicious sides which included crispy vegetables and sweet potato. The seafood pasta was good, but not great. There was very little seafood in the dish, but the dish was tasty.

This pretty and quaint spot in town is so lovely and I didn't regret coming for a second. If you're looking for a p r o p e r Italian meal, this is the perfect place to go. The menu has a very good variety of meals and if anything, you will be left spoiled for choice. The dim lighting is perfect for a romantic dinner with a significant other or just quiet dinner with the girls. The pastas we ordered were absolutely divine and we couldn't help but stuff our faces cause of how good they were. I will definitely never hesitate to come her next time I'm in Cape Town.

Bree street is filled with wonders and this is one of them! The restaurant has 3 different dining levels, the top being fine dining, middle section tapas and the ground floor the bistro. The first time I ate here, I ate at the bistro section and I didn't enjoy my meal however my second visit here has redeemed the place for me. This time I ate at the tapas section and it was absolutely divine! Beautiful flavors in the dishes with every bite. We were 3 and ordered from the sharing section of the menu (amazeballs meatballs, pork shoulder and the hake). Tapas section is also great in that it is not as busy and feels more cosy. It's only right that the next time I visit, I try the fine dining section.

Villa 47 Upstairs is great for drinks and tapas or light meals. Cocktails are great with interesting presentation. There’s a fireplace with some seating next to it that’s great in the winter.

Awesome, vibey place for lunch or dinner. I loved the atmosphere. The food and cocktails were amazing and the service is very good too, even though they were crazy busy

On the night we sat in the upstairs area. The room was dimly lit and there was deep house playing in the background which gives a more relaxed feeling for dinner.

Our group decided to order from the tapas menu. We had the calamari, beetroot croquetas and a platter to share. I each dish was teeming with flavour, so much so that we ordered the same of everything.

Lovely place for a relaxed meal and drinks during the middle of the week.

This was my first time at Villa 47 (a few weeks back we had an awesome experience at the upstairs place).

Things started out well, Jesse our waiter seemed extremely on the ball, he had passion for days about the menu and it was infectious.

Our meal, however, was not great, not terrible, just very disappointing. The steak was sinewy and tough and the past was okay at best - not bad enough to complain, but not good enough to finish. Here's where things started to go wrong:

- The waiter that takes your order doesn't bring your food.

- Nobody came to ask us if we were enjoying our meal

- We sat with half eaten plates for at least 20 minutes before they were cleared. A different waiter asked if we were done (our knives and forks were closed) not if we enjoyed it or if anything was wrong.

- 10 minutes later when my wife was going to the toilet our waiter asked her if she enjoyed the meal, she said no, not really, he thought she was joking, she asked if he saw our half-eaten plates.

- 15 minutes after that he asked us if we wanted dessert - now I was a waiter, and my family owned a restaurant. If a customer is unhappy, you address it. Weren't upset, just disappointed, we didn't want a freebie or anything, just some acknowledgement.

- By now though I was frustrated, I asked why he hadn't come to ask us if we were enjoying our meal, he didn't answer. I asked why he didn't come to the after he knew we were upset. I asked why nobody came by to see if we had wanted coffees until over half an hour after we had finished our food. He simply said, "I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your meal", and walked off - still no coffee :|

- Then we asked for the bill

- Then they overcharged us R200

- By now, to be honest, I was irritated. I could see the manager and the waiter that cleared our plates looking at us and talking about us, but they didn't come over.

- I started to address this with Jesse as we were leaving, I said that all we would have needed to turn the whole thing around was a simple acknowledgement. The manager was watching me talking to Jesse but still not coming over. Only when I started pointing at him and saying. "Look at this guy, he doesn't **** * ****" He's just standing there watching me get upset with you.", did he come over.

- Then he apologised, I asked why he didn't come over when he found out that we didn't enjoy our meal, he replied that he wanted to get the facts. I said to him that there were no facts, we just didn't like it, and that that was nearly an hour before.

- He had nothing. I told him that his problem was that he didn't care (I know, a bit crappy, but by now I was really frustrated).

- And then we left.

I really do believe that the problem with this place is quite Cape Tonian, the genuinely believe that they are superior to their patrons and they don't simply don't care if you're unhappy - you must just be an uncultured swine that does not appreciate their brilliance.

The sad thing is that< I believe, under the guidance of a manager that promotes a good attitude with his staff, encourages them to check on their tables, visits the tables themselves, he could be brilliant. However, when the manager clearly doesn't care, the junior simply doesn't stand a chance. Somewhere decent needs to poach this guy so he can thrive.

So very disappointing :(

Villa 47 has an incredible energy in the air. It's vibrant the inter decor is eclectic.

I Attended the place with a large group and we had various meals off the mains menu and the Controfilletto stood out. It was well prepared and beautifully served.
Bryan Vally
Villa 47 was solid - not spectacular. We tried their three course special, with mixed results. Nothing was bad in any way, some dishes were just better than others. Service was generally accessible. We ate upstairs, which is more a bar/tapas vibe and very trendy. Worth a visit on a Friday night if you're in the area.

This restaurant has got to be one of my favourite restaurants in South Africa. The service is impeccable, the waiters are very professional and I received a warm welcome upon entry and this wasn't even the best part. The food was to die for! I ate the kingklip which was on special and it arrived in record time. Paired with the Beaumont Chenin Blanc, it was truly an experience. Villa 47 is the perfect place to grab a bite with a partner or if you want to impress the in-laws and it's child friendly.

I must give the chef, manger and waiters at Villa 47 a round of applause. They are doing a great job! I can't wait to return
Azure Canister
I enjoyed my food but it doesn't have that Italian authenticity I was expecting

I will definitely go back because the service was good and the restaurant is beautiful
Kristen George
Service has definitely improved since they opened. The waiter was attentive and the service was excellent. I had the seared tuna and it was one of the best meals I've ever had.

Great venue for business lunches.
Aimee
Good wholesome food. Generous food portions made like mamma would, with some added flair. We will be back again and again. Keep an eye out for the recommended meals of the day
Alexandra Krajewski
Wonderful ambience, especially on a stormy day. The row of windows lets a lot of good light in.
All of the servers were very attentive.
The duck special with artichoke mash was simply superb. Great tiramisu. Delicious panna cotta.
The meat of the steak was a little off to my taste. We were told that it's the style of the aged meat. Regardless, it was over-cooked, as it was asked to be medium rare.
Overall, a delicious experience and I'm sure to return.

Hadn't heard of this place before this weekend and must say I was really impressed.
There are a few different seating areas, each with a different look and atmosphere. We had a table in the back, and although I was slightly worried that I might freeze out there , they have loads of little heaters to ward off the winter chills.
I ordered the recommended tortellini and absolutely loved it! The delicious food, paired with their professional and fast service made for a very enjoyable evening.
Nice for a date or even a large group of friends. Smart without feeling up tight 👌🏼
Simone Naicker
Lovely set-up. Perfect for mimosas. The tortellini is perfect for a breezy morning, make sure you have an appetite. We finished off with the bread pudding - the accompanying ice cream was nice but didn't enjoy the brown garnish it was placed on.
Pia Harris
These guys seriously know what they are doing. If you want a dining experience with slick service, friendly atmosphere, delicious food with a menu that offers something for everyone, this is the place to take your guests!

Their wine list is good, offering something for everyone and always served perfectly.
There charcuterie board is absolutely delicious - I don't think I've had better any where else?
Their Seared Tuna from the Specials board is always exceptional.

Have been many times and can't fault anything!
Helga De Vasconcelos Sarria
Stunning !

Gorgeous setting ( in the back of the restaurant ) . Seared Tuna is off the charts!!! That's the dish to order. Good service . Ravioli was nice.
Nadia Joubert
Probably one of the best meals I've ever had. Lunch in the sun on the deck with a glass of white wine added to the experience. The staff are all from around the world and they were very friendly and interesting. The food was delicate and bursting with flavor.
Pusm
It's a pleasant restaurant. Very nice atmosphere, decor , lights, maybe the chairs on the deck could be more comfortable. Staff friendly and responsive. The food is good too, enjoyable. Not exactly faithful to traditional Italian but also not too revolutionized either. It's nice to enjoy a simple antipasto dish with prosciutto and cheese cuts. Pastas and meat are good also, as well as desserts. It's a good addition to Bree Street, I'll go back again.
Shaun Watson
Food was amazing, possibly the best sirloin steak I've had! Great wine selection, beautiful restaurant, central location, but service was average.
Alexandra May Barry
Fantastic! Food was impeccable, service and staff wonderful!
We had a few different pastas, and the hake (since the yellowtail had sold out-apparently a must-try!). We finished off with the creme brûlée and bread and butter pudding.
The pineapple cocktail is a must! Arrives in a large pineapple-shaped cup/jug.
Some of the portion sizes are slightly on the small side but other than that the whole experience was great!
Mark Coumbes
Making Bree street great! Always nice when you can count on a restaurant to be open on a holiday and on Sunday. The food is always tasty Italian bistro style. Well done! The service is amazing!
Anja Immelman
Wanted to try this place out for a while and finally got around to it. Ambience and location is good, service very good. We had a cheese board for starters to share and it was nice but not superb. My husband had the veal and I tried the tortellini. All in all solid food but since it's Cape Town it's tough since there are SO many super restaurants to choose from with more to offer.
Iryna Bilyk
Negatives: don't sit in the courtyard on a hot day. It was pretty stuffy, humid and smelled of chlorine. Once we managed to change to a table in the front of the restaurant, the experience was amazing.

Lovely service, amazing food, the best chicken livers of my entire life. The atmosphere is perfect and is great for a romantic evening. Not too noisy.

Highly recommended
Chuma Bubu
Love, love, love this restaurant. I've been here twice and cannot fault them on anything.
On my first visit I had the sirloin steak and the creme brûlée for dessert. Yummy! I especially enjoyed the creme brûlée 😍.
The second time, I had the beef carpaccio for starters, lamb chops for mains and the creme brûlée once against for dessert. All three courses were scrumptious!

The service was also great. On both times our waiters were very friendly and attentive.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the prices - expected to pay a lot more than I did. But honestly without alcohol one can really get a good meal without breaking the bank.

Looking forward to my next visit. Maybe next time I'll try the pastas.
Susan Searle
An unbelievable vibe, setting, great service. The tuna is my favourite and have also had thae pasta special of the day. Really consistent with a great fusion of Fine tastes.
James Hickman
I found this place under the Hot New Spots in Cape Town
article. Checked it out on Zomato and liked what I saw. We ate at the down
stairs area and not the fine dining upstairs. In Summary, the food was ok to
good, ambiance was ok, service was average and price was high.

We both had carpaccio as a starter. The beef was good but
the octopus was crying out for more acid and became one of those dishes that
you really enjoy the first few bites but it soon becomes monotone. I didn’t
finish it.

For mains, we had the seared Tuna with peppercorn sauce and
the Saltimbocca with white wine sauce. The Tuna was delicious and I had serious
food envy. The pairing with the peppercorn sauce was unusual and worked
brilliantly! The Saltimbocca was not great and needed something to lift it.
This little bit of spinach and polenta chips just added more planeness to
another monotone dish, I didn’t finish it. I am a firm believer that if a
restaurant charging R190 a dish ventures down the road of something like
polenta chips then make them special, do something that the customer will not
expect, add some zing but don’t just cook polenta and deep-fry it.

The ambiance is ok, nothing different from the many other
Bree street restaurants, nice enough.

Service was average and we didn’t see out waiter for most of
the evening. Our food was delivered to the table next to us, we had to top up
our own water, we had to ask the manager for the bill after searching for our
waiter and my first glass of white wine was served warm, pet hate. When I
informed that waiter that his service was not great he argued with me and
explained that in fact he had given us very good at which point I stopped
giving feedback.

Price. If all our meals where at the standard of the Tuna
and the service was great I would have been ok with the price. But they weren’t
and R960 for two people, 2 starters, 2 mains and 4 glasses of wine feels
expensive to me. You can get away with the same price at Chefs Warehouse and
have a significantly better dining experience.

Will I be back, probably not.

Awesome from beginning to end. International quality food, decor and service. All dishes were sensational. We ate at the top floor restaurant which is beautifully decorated in modern chic tones. Kingklip and lamb cutlets were delightful. Highly recommended.
Jessy Lipperts
Delicious springbok tartare, one of the plats de jour. My friend ordered the burger which was massive. The bread was a bit hard. Manager handled it very good simply brought a new bun. We were seated at a high table which was very uncomfortable or maynr our bums too big LOL. The place is gorgeous and service is good. Good ambiance. Nice evening.

We sat upstairs on a weeknight for a birthday dinner recently. I found the acoustics quite poor; it's hard to hear a conversation above the noise of surrounding diners. We had some sharing plates to start, which were yum, and I ordered a delicious green salad with shaved Parmesan. It's a bit pricey, and a little dark, but it was a pleasant experience overall.

Early dinner tonight at Villa 47. Lovely vibe when we arrived, settled in for a few drinks before ordering mains. Two of the party had the Seared Tuna, done with a Madagascar pepper sauce..which looked delicious and Grant said it's probably his best tuna dish to date. He is a fussy eater. I had a seafood meal..prawns and calamari with a spicy mayo..also tasty..deserts next..a good Panna cotta is always a good test of the kitchen. Stay tuned..

Couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate my 28th birthday! From the decor to the staff to the food to the ambience 🙌🏻🍴🍷
We decided not to have starters as we saw some of the mains pass by (mouth watering) & the portions were quite substantial so we didn't want to ruin our appetites so we decided on just a main which was recommend by our waitress & is also now very highly recommended by myself! •• The Seared Tuna •• absolute perfection - from presentation to taste, could not fault this dish at all!
Can't wait to go back to try out some of their other dishes.

The service was terrible. The food full of pepper. I will not return.

There are far better restaurants in Cape Town.

Rather go to la colombe.

The selection of cheeses and cured meats on their antipasti platter is very good. One of the few places to get pata negra in Cape Town.

Ask to see their cold room - and enjoy the olfactory pleasure.

Villa 47 -Locanda is the most fantastic restaurant! Best dinner I have experienced in Cape Town in the last 3 weeks. The atmosphere is casual, the food is superb and the staff are exceptional.

Not impressed at all. We went to the tapas lounge upstairs, great vibe and all but the food was honestly so average - nothing I expected at all based on the rating and reviews. I understand it’s tapas centre but the portions were also ridiculously small , for example, the octopus dish right at the top is actually a "sharing plate" for R180, it really would have been a mess if I hadn't ordered something else on top of what my partner ordered.
Definitely would not go back, I'm a huge fan of tapas restaurants and I can honestly go to a place where there's much more value for money .

This restaurant is a class act. It ticks the boxes with great service, vibey atmosphere and excellent food. We had their Caesar salad which must be one of the best I've had anywhere followed by delicious pasta. The menu offers far more than that though and I look forward to going back to explore further. For those who have a shallow alter ego like me, a sexy good looking crowd appear to frequent.

My partner and I came across Villa 47 by chance on this cold Cape Town morning- the staff were super friendly as we entered and the restaurants ambience was perfect. My breakfast included the tastiest scrambled eggs (made with lots of butter as it should be and seasoned perfectly) , spicy chorizo and ciabatta. I added a chocolate croissant and 2 cups of americano to end off this great breakfast experience. Will be back to try their "The Italian Happy Hour" and breakfast ofcause!

We had a drink at the bar in the middle which was good, and then dinner at the restaurant on the ground floor which was very good. One of the best burgers I've eaten! Good service and nice vibe. Will return...

Service: good. Waiters were friendly and attentive. Food: the classic Italian salad was fresh and light. The fillet with truffle sauce is absolutely delicious! Went twice in one week just to have it. Panini was ok. Pasta is a better choice! All in all a good experience

Villa 47 is such a lovely spot to visit, especially for a girls night out. The atmosphere is vibey and puts you in a great mood. The staff were very helpful in making our reservation and seating us. We were seated in the tapas lounge on the second floor. We started off by relaxing on the couched with a bottle of Beyerskloof pinotage and then moved to the tables where we ordered a variety of tapas. We ordered the chicken liver bruschettas, the prawn skewer and a vegetarian bruschetta. All dishes were tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. Even though the dishes seemed small, they were quite filling. I definitely recommend a visit to Villa 47.

Villa 47 is a beauty inside out. The interior is charming which got me. We were invited to a friends birthday so there were quite a few of us. We all started off with drinks. I had the pineapple fresca. Something different, slightly sweet but very enjoyable. It also comes in a attractive pineapple 😉. Their tapas are great , Sashen and I shared the calamari and the risotto balls with pancetta. The calamari is a definite must have. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the night.

Best controfilletto (sirloin) ever! 300g for R 195. Done perfectly. Almost didn't want to "spoil" it with the truffle sauce. Worth going back for.

Girls night! And funilly enough a sure way to run into some potential blessors if you're into that sort of thing. No judgies. The food was great, I had the beef carpaccio for starters, and the lamb shank for mains. The waiter was very helpful in decoding the items on the menu for a layman. Haha....

in a word - wow!

honestly the best risotto i've had in months, it didn't look like much but it was delicious and the consistency was perfect. my company had something unmemorable with polenta chips that didn't really compliment the meal well either.

we finished our meals off with crème brûlée and a trio of sorbets, absolutely NO regrets. worth adding we had a really great waiter, a slightly elder gentleman. he was so great that we opted to remain in his section rather than get a seat outside on what was a truly lovely day.

Had a great evening...food was excellent...service great...definitely will be back....what a great location and when you step into the restaurant even better than expected

The best starters ever! Had the chicken livers and beef carpaccio. Then proceeded to have pasta & veal, and then the desserts. The food was really lovely and the waiters are definitely trained so well. Best service iv experienced in a while! Overall, a delightful experience...Can't wait to try out the other the two floors.

Star struck by D-List celebs, we slammed breaks and headed to a buzzing Villa 47. If you're looking for dinner and want to be surrounded by beautiful people, you have arrived. The drinks are standard Cape Town prices and the vibe will make you want to stick around for a bit. Definitely a keeper.

Do not eat here! This is me straight after eating toxic tuna for lunch. I got scombiod which is a type of food poisoning from tuna that isn't refrigerated properly. Owner won't even cover my hospital bill but has offered me a free meal. I don't think I will eat there again. Please be careful!

A bit of mixed feelings here. My dish, the Tortellini 47, was absolutely phenomenal - and I'd go back for it - but I just feel like the pricing is completely over the top and they're trying to force this image of exclusiveness which comes off as pretentious. It has potential and I hope to be back though cause my dish really was sensational!

Best risotto I have had this year! The flavours were outstanding, and constantly have cravings for it now 😬

I look the ambiance of the restaurant, very trendy yet comfortable. I love that they asked one of the Italian chefs to come and explain which pasta options to try, it made the experience so much more exciting.

As a tip, order some cheese as a starter, wow wow wow! Great way to start the night.

Mixed feelings really after having been there more than 5 times. On the one hand the food is prepared and presented really well and this is a baseline expectation. Ambience and warmth of the place needs to be worked on. The reception that one receive is important for me and sets the tone for the dining experience...its lacking at Villa 47.
Price wise, I concur with the other reviews that it is quite pricey but for me this is offset by the quality of the ingredients selected and what is presented in front of me.

RECOMMENDATION:
1. Train some of your waiters and your hosts when it comes to making a customer feel welcomed
2. Include a chocolate dessert on your menu: Chocolate Fondant would be a hit
3. The music selection and high volume needs to be adjusted

Lovely restaurant with a great and classy vibe. The food is unique and delicious, it was a great experience. The food and service were of a high standard, will be coming again!

We were invited to eat here for dinner with friends before we went through to the Artscape. Our lovely waiter understood that we were in a hurry and did what he could to get our food out swiftly. The menu is interesting, although I felt it was somewhat overpriced... Especially the drinks. I was very disappointed that they don't have many beer and cider options and what they did have was imported and expensive. R45 for a cider is pretty steep. I was incredibly keen to try their creme brûlée but decided to give it a miss at R65 for a little dessert. All in all the food was good but for those prices I would expect a fine dining experience, not a quick bite to eat.

Honestly one of the best dinners I've had in Cape Town! The food was absolutely amazing with the Tortellini 47 being my stand out dish👍🏻 The service was average which was unfortunate as the table next to us had a fantastic waiter whereas ours was nothing to write home about. The only fault I could find in Villa 47 was that their wine list lacked variety. All in all an amazing experience and I'll definitely be back🙌🏻

Villa 47 is new and it is doing it right. The decor is modern and chic and you can sense immediately that you are in for something special. Initially there was a mess up with the booking and the hostess was unnecessarily rude and confrontational which had the possibility to set a bad tone for the night but we quickly go over that. The service was attentive and thorough and knew the menu well and the different components that go into the dish. We had the special on the night of the seared tuna which was mouth wateringly tender with a delicious dressing and I had the rump with truffle dressing. The sauce was easily the best streak sauce I have ever tasted, really couldn't get enough. I would definitely recommend it as a restaurant for a special evening with a vibe. It is quite pricy but worth it.

First time eating here. Modern & upmarket interior. Nice vibe but very loud. Superb service. Nice menu with food choices. I found the prices a bit high but not out of the ball park. Easy parking outside. You must book if you wish to eat here. I will definitely be back.

Villa 47 is divided in two. The upstairs hosts a upscale bar & tapas vibe while the downstairs is a full blown Restaurant. We went to the upstairs area and had a variety of tapas. The food was delicious. Full of flavor. I had prosecco and others had some wine. Quite pricey but well worth it. Highly recommend this place although it gets very loud.

I've been here twice now - once just after they opened and again some weeks later. At the first go, you could see that they were trying really hard. The food was good, but the plating really lacked good execution. So when I went back the second time, I was happy to see that they'd really improved on that. I've got no major complaints about the food, except for the Fritto Misto which came with only two or three prawns and I felt it was really overpriced for what you got. Apart from that, the beef carpaccio is wonderful, and they have really delicious desserts. The octupus carpaccio is not really my thing, but many people at my table ordered that and were very chuffed with it. The mushroom risotto was excellent, although I felt that the prawns that were placed on top were very overpowering and unnecessary. (They could've used those for the Fritto Misto rather). I've enjoyed their panna cotta and affogato (both REALLY yum), and other guests at the table had the bread pudding and pavlova. The service is always great (the waiters are friendly and knowledgeable). They were also very willing to adapt a dish for one of my guests who is vegetarian, since the menu doesn't really cater for vegetarians.
I'll probably visit Villa 47 again.

Not sure exactly how I feel about this place yet - need to give it another go. I ordered the Steak with Truffle sauce and my food was so delicious and well portioned. But my friends seem to have gotten such small portions of pasta for their main meal. I tasted the Octopus starter and it was incredible. And I loved my steak dish, but the pasta portions are really small and it not gonna leave you fulfilled at all. Busy and trendy new restaurant, but quite pricey for what they offer.

Absolutely adore this little restaurant. Amazing food and great service. I ordered a pasta and Wow! I couldnt even finish it. Definitely coming back here again.

Stylish spot on Bree street with lovely breakfasts. Decor is great, service is top notch- great for a business lunch. A personal favourite for breakfast is the Croissant with Scrambled Egg and Italian Pancetta.

Villa 47 is a good restaurant. The concept confuses the hell out of me though. Why would you import ingredients from abroad to cook cuisines (Italian and Japanese) that are famous for using fresh produce? Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed Locanda. But is it authentically Italian, or a showcase for Rialto products, or just another trendy Bree Street eatery?
Lauren Jaclyn Goldman
First off, the food was delicious - for that they earn the 4. BUT would I go back? The place as a whole reminded me of a piece of Milan in Cape Town, and I love Milan, but Villa 47 just seems very "Bree Street". While there are many amazing restaurants in Bree Street, I start questioning the authenticity of them as more and more pop up - are they really good or just trendy? Villa 47 strikes me as both - it's really good and trendy - but there are a lot of really good (authentic) Italian restaurants in Cape Town that have passed the "trendy" test... so let's see what happens with Locanda.

I woke up this morning with the sole intention of having breakfast at Villa 47. I had never been there before but I had been meaning to visit the restaurant for weeks now. I had heard so many great things about this place and couldn't wait to experience it for myself.

Unfortunately, I was greatly disappointment and left the restaurant upset and hungry. I am a big foodie and have learned a thing or two about dining space. I believe it is the waiter and the hostess's job to pay equal attention and high regard to all the customers that come through their doors. What I experienced at Villa 47 was totally different to what I am used to.There was no warmth in the atmosphere and the service was very poor towards me in the very least. I am a very observant person and I noticed how certain tables were given much attention and happy chappy smiles and I was left to my own devices until I actively calledout to the waiter.

First thing I did, after I sat down of course, was to ask if they had a milk alternative (for allergy purposes) before I ordered my coffee. After the waiter went to the kitchen and made an inquiry I was told that they was not. So I ordered an americano which was really good. I had initially ordered breakfast the minute I ordered my coffee. 15 minutes later and after realizing that other diners who had arrived after me had gotten their orders I asked how long my breakfast would take. The second waiter apologized (who was much nicer) and said there was a misunderstanding and that my order hadn't been put through to the kitchen. I appreciated the fact that he had apologized and corrected the situation.

Once my food was brought to me (croissant filled with fluffy scrambled eggs and salty pancetta) all was well in my books. Till I found a piece of hair in my food. I was immediately put off and could not continue eating-at all. Listen I am not the type of person to create a scene in a restaurant and be all fussy about the little things. But when I was approached by I am assuming the manager (or maybe he was the second hostess) and he asked me whether everything was alright, I was at my last straw. I politely said that I could not continue eating because I had found a piece of hair in my food and immediately asked for my bill. He looked at me, said okay, took the plate and attended to his other customers. I was appalled. No apology. No "excuse me ma'am while I sort this out with the kitchen staff". I felt disregarded as an individual and quite frankly disrespected as a paying customer nogal! I have never had such an experience and it really dampened the rest of my day.

The bit of the food I had was delicious but the service....well my review says it all!

We ate at the Stuzzico section. The high chairs and tables (for tables of 4) make for some awkward dining, but if you order the tapas in relays it doesn't present too many problems. The food is very tasty with a good variety for a smallish menu. It was a Friday night so the buzz was high, which made it a little difficult to hear conversations around the table without straining. Overall the flavour in the food and the efficient service trumps the minor negatives! Will definitely go back!

We went for a team business lunch today, and happy to say that this is a fantastic little spot! Service, drinks, food, everything great! I had the seared tuna (not on the menu), with green peppercorn sauce, cucumber and sweet potato. Devine! Most ordered the steak and fries (with white truffle sauce), and everybody's was prepared exactly to their liking.

Quite a nice vibe over lunch time as place was packed. Upstairs though is a bar type vibe which I think would be perfect for after work drinks. Upstairs is not open during lunch time though.

Anyway, will definitely be back with some friends!

Met for a business lunch . The ambience was very pleasant and a very pleasant and well informed waiter explained the menu and specials got us . I had the Octopus cappachio as a starter . The best Octopus dish I have eaten since I was last in Galicia . It was awesome!! For Mains I had the seared tuna which was fresh and seared to perfection . A good bottle of wine from an extensive wine list and the meal finished of with an expresso and grappa !
Definitely worth a visit

Myself and two girlfriends booked at Villa 47 for dinner last week for a girls night. From the time we arrived to the time we left, we could not fault anything in terms of the service and food. Going for traditional Italian, we ordered two penne pasta dishes and one risotto dish to taste and share. The flavours and portions were plentiful. The starter bread/breadsticks were light and absolutely delicious. We did not realise that the restaurant had 3 sections, front, back and upstairs. We sat in the back courtyard which provided a nice ambiance. The only frustrating part was the size of the round tables, with bread basket, wine, water, place settings and the menu all together, it was hard to keep everything on the table without either a menu, cutlery or something falling off. But functionality aside, the place could not be faulted.

I was here last week for a girls dinner and had heard plenty about the place. There many was enticing but a little over priced, I personally think. The wine list was lovely, and the bread sticks and snacks they bring for the table are a winner. I tried a pea and prosciutto risotto which was cooked perfectly. Our waiter let us down, sadly, as two of us at the table had to ask three ones for our glasses of wine.

This was my first time at Villa 47.

*The staff were very welcoming and attentive.

*The Champaign served was on point 💯

*Mains included The Sirloin steak and Veal which was mouth watering 😍 their string fries 🍟 were out of this world!

*I am very fussy when it comes to my steaks and have to say they got the ratio spot on💯

*Red wine that was served was perfect 😜

*We rounded it off with the panacotta and the Tiramisu cake and I just have to add, that Tiramisu though 😍😍😍😍 out of this world!!!

All in all it was totally worth it and definitely worthy of a return! Thanks again to the staff and a special thank you to the manager Peter, whom made this night so much more spectacular!

Went to Villa 47 for a Monday lunch and walked in to a full restaurant. The hostess was friendly and helped up get a nice seat. The venue is open and light with beautiful modern finishes. We enjoyed the tasty foods and wine. Looking forward to going back for dinner this time.
