I love and would recommend everything about this place - the Casablanca themed Ricks cafe is my go to ! Rick’s has the most delicious food with a menu that caters for everyone. They have great ambience and an extensive wine list too. The vibey staff are always friendly and attentive, very well managed by Robert ! All in all, a great restaurant look forward to going back soon!
The most important thing is that the food and service is excellent. The second most important thing is that the kitchen closes later than other establishments in the area. We Found it by chance whilst walking around when other places had closed their kitchens. However, this chance encounter led to our best food experience in Cape Town. Highly recommended.

Honestly one of the best places I've been at in a long time , the whole environment is great , friendly and helpful staff with excellent food at great prices. They just won me over from another restaurant down the street which has also great food but bad service. Ricks cafe keep up the good work and see you soon :-)
Working on a prestigious cruise line cruising around the globe and tasting dishes served locally, I must say Ricks in CapeTown has rather left me a very impressive remarks from the staff welcoming us at the front door, cocktails served at the cozy bar and followed by delicious tasty food. Excellent selection of food in the menu by the way. It was awesome!

Very, very good food!! The setting and theme is cosy and warm on a winters night, prices are a bit high for the average person, but will definitely be back and recommend that people go there.

Found this restaurant after a long evening of trying to get into any place on kloof's nek. As someone with a severe gluten allergy, I did not expect much. However, the hostess (with short blonde hair) was so sweet and accommodating that she made sure there was an option available to me and ensured the correct cooking procedures were followed so that I did not have an allergic reaction when she could have simply turned me away given all the hassle. Our waitress was comical and very polite and added to the overall experience. The decor is eclectic and warm adding to an intimate feel. Ultimately, this was an outstanding hidden gem!

This place I can't say enough about it. The Chicken and fig tagine is what dreams are made of. Beyond delicious. Service was incredible, they went above and beyond. Virgin pina colada was outstanding.

The food is OMG good. Serious portions with bang-on flavour. Everything is locally sourced and of the highest quality but still gives you that rustic plateful experience. The menu is expansive so there's something for everyone. We shared a tapas platter and I can honestly say it was the best tapas platter I've ever seen. Lamb, chicken, calamari, a selection of dips and sauces, deep fried taste bombs, fresh greens, it just had it all! And it was delicious!
This is a wonderful choice for a warm summer's day or a cold winter night. Whatever the occasion, Rick's is the location for you.
It's a little pricey, but flying to Morocco to get the same experience is even more expensive so go try it out, feast like a king and spread the Rick's Café vibe to your tribe.
Sadly I arrived here not feeling great, but my date proclaimed this to be the best burger he's ever had. We also had the feta parcels which were amazing. Will definitely try this place again.
I absolutely love Rick's. Amazing decor and excellent service. I've tried several of the dishes and they've all been extremely delicious. Great cocktails too and the red wine is very nice. The atmosphere is completely transporting. Visiting is always a real delight.

The atmosphere is super chilled, somewhere you really feel like you could spend long afternoons indulging in their delicious mojitos.
The food is really good. I haven’t had the pleasure of trying a burger just yet, but by the look of it, they are amazing. The bitterballen is a winner and so are he fish cakes!
Their drinks menu is probably one of the most extensive I have ever seen.

Drinks were great, food was wonderful- had the middle eastern salad and it was massive, filling, fresh and full of flavor-, the ambience and decor is wonderful (fire places are always a win on a windy and rainy day), and most of all the service was by far some of the best I've experience in Cape Town! It was a birthday and a reasonably larger party. The service was excellent, all the orders were spot on, nothing was forgotten, everything was fast. Everyone tried something different and all of it was amazing. Well worth a visit if you have some coin to splurge.

Rick's is consistently a go-to spot for us. If the weather is good, be sure to book on the balcony. Indoors, be prepared to smoke even if you're a non-smoker as the partition between isn't great. However, the food is good. The steaks are unbelievably tender and flavourful. Presentation was beautiful and service was excellent. I highly recommend the gorgonzola sauce although the basting jus is good enough to be a sauce in itself. There were 6 of us. The ceasar salad was a little disappointing and the fried pastries were bland. Desserts: the bread and butter pudding and cheesecake were yummy. Lots of great beers and a startlingly good hot milk with Lindt chocolate made up a really fun lunch with awesome atmosphere. Eat here.
Rick's is always a treat! The Staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home. I've patronised Rick's a number of times and the managers were happy to help me plan a memorable surprise party for my best friend.

Been to Rick's a few times for drinks but I had the opportunity to try the food for the first time this past weekend. Had the pork neck burger. Flavours were very interesting but think I would have preferred a vegetarian dish.
Service was good, as usual. The staff are really friendly, from the bartenders to the waiters. I'd like to think it's thanks to the awesome manager. There's few places you'd find such an attentive, friendly manager, personally checking on almost every patron in the restaurant.
Really really enjoyed my meal tonight! Been here before for cocktails, but never for dinner! We had a super cool waiter JP who was very efficient! We shared a number of tapas, the meze platter was outstanding for me! We all had a cocktail, super delicious and they were on special! The decor is amazing, really sets a nice atmosphere for dining!

Nice restaurant, very chilled, had a few drinks and ordered the Chilli Poppers. Rick's is not the cheapest in terms of food and drink but it is quite a nice place 2 just chill out. Our waiter was average but all in all a good experience. The Chilli Poppers were super hot.
Wanted some vegiterian food. Had the Falafel Pita with couscous. Was really tasty! Probably some of the better vegetarian food I've had on a while. Simple, but good. Also had an Old-Fashioned. That wasn't very good at all. It's supposed to have just a hint of sugar. Well it tasted like the person making it had added about 6 tablespoons. There was a gooey layer of sugar at the bottom. I've had this drink in many parts of the world and it's never been anything like this. Not good. On the up-side my friends Bikini Martini was pleasant.
Been here a few times, both as a member of a dinner club as well as with other friends. Drinks are mixed well and service is impeccable. Every time. Not to mention the food. Really really happy to recommend this place to visitors and locals alike.

Really a pretty darn good veggie burger. I believe the veg tagine is great too. There's a vast list of happy hour cocktails, not all of them delicious, and there's some good beer on tap. It can be a bit dark inside in summer, but there are nice outdoor spaces too. I'm not too sure about the Casablanca theme, nor the somewhat derogatory posters in the ladies bathroom. But it's a good place to meet up with friends or watch the game.
Popped in for a quick bite last night. Had to make the most of their cocktail happy hour - strawberry daiquiri's were refreshing. Also had their beer battered fish and chips, which was yummy and generous. Really nice tartare sauce, fresh chips and 2 nice size pieces of crispy battered bake that was moist and firm on the inside. Service was quick and friendly. We sat on the deck and they have a nice vibe going there - I will be back
I remember Rick's as an institution - one of Cape Town's landmarks. Earlier visits years back were among my favourite dining experiences in the city. I was surprised to get a table as a walk-in on a Saturday night - and even more surprised to see Rick's less than full - a rarity in years gone by. Whilst not offensive, the experience wasn't remarkable in any way. Tapas ranged from excellent to average. Whilst one could do far worse, Rick's seems to have been eclipsed by the many newer establishments in Cape Town.
Firstly outstanding food and Very friendly service
We ordered the traditional cheese burger , honey riblets and ravioli, the ravioli definitely stood out and the burger was just a normal good tasting burger (maybe cause we expected me)
The riblets were marinated really well I couldn't get enough of them!
The margaritas we ordered were way too sour :( the waiter did let us know they only have one flavour though (lemon/lime) so we couldn't complain much. We are huge margarita fans and honestly didn't enjoy this one.
But an awesome experience overall , we definitely would go back ( just buy different drinks that's all 😊)
First time at Rick's Cafe Americain, and it definitely won't be my last. Decided on a last minute dinner with a few friends, so no reservation. They were completely full when we got there, but the hostess quickly arranged a table for us to have a few drinks at before another spot opened up.
Really good menu, ranging from tapas to burgers to seafood. I had the BMB burger, which had all my favourite toppings. A bit spoilt for choice with their drinks menu - they have everything! Cocktails, beers, grappas, sherry, wine... You name it, they've got it!
Staff are super efficient and friendly too.
Definitely make a reservation before going. Also opt to sit in the upstairs area, or outside in the front.
A Moroccan themed restaurant with 'Rick' in the title can allude to one thing only - Casablanca! The ambience of the restaurant literally feels like Rick's in the movie and a bunch of the dishes are themed on aspects of the movie too (Bogart's Burger etc.)
I ordered the burgar with pineapple which was juicy and flavorful. Portion sizes are incredibly large so come hungry (I couldn't finish the whole thing)
The waitrons are very friendly and the service is really good overall.

Been to Ricks a few times. Love the upstairs seating as it's cosy yet also allows you to let your hair down with that roof top vibe. I've had the chili poppers and the Turkish lamb kofta burger. Enjoyed the poppers and the burger. They also have really nice drinks specials. Service is also really friendly and efficient.

I’m a major cinephile and the old Hollywood classics have always amazed me. One of the many classics I have watched numerous times is Casablanca, and, given my thorough enjoyment of the film, it is little wonder that I thoroughly enjoy Rick’s Cafe Americain, named after and based on this timeless film (for those that aren’t familiar with the film, I urge you all to watch it – it’s great, in true classic Hollywood style, and it’ll definitely make you appreciate Rick’s more).

I noticed this restaurant some time back on one of my scarce trips into Gardens, and just loved the quaint character of the converted old house and made a mental note to try it sometime. Last night was that "sometime". We received a professional, warm welcome from the hostess. Loving old character buildings, I was delighted to see that this restaurant's interior has kept it's old world charm with upbeat decor. The food presentation was stunning! I ordered 2 tapas dishes, Moroccan cheese phyllo parcel's and pork ribs, which I was assured would be equivalent to 1 main dish. In fact I had to ask for a "doggy bag", because I don't eat much at night, so the helping was very generous. The parcels were simply delicious, and the flavor was enhanced with toasted almonds and sesame seeds. The ribs were done to perfection. . My husband ordered the springbok tagine. He loved it. I also tasted it, and not being a fan of game, this was the best springbok I've ever tasted, with dates, honey, cous-cous, it was superb and certainly not sweet at all. All in all, the ambiance was warm and beautiful, the food excellent and well presented. The only let down for us was the service. Our waiter was not attentive, disappeared on several occasions causing us to having to flag another waiter for service which we could instantly see that the other waiters were agitated with our waiter as he has probably done this to them on too many occasions, and although he had a good sense of humor, our waiter had too many other things on his mind.
Rick's is always enjoyable for dinner and drinks and I really enjoy their tapas menu. Their chilli poppers are very spicy but enjoyable and their phyllo wrapped cheese parcels are delicious too. Overall a nice atmosphere and great place to hang out with friends.

This is one of my new favourites! Perfect for a dinner with friends and drinks afterwards! The tapas menu is so diverse and choosing one is impossible - I'd recommend trying at least two or three. Beware of the Chilli poppers! I've never had any so hot before, I think I lost a couple of taste buds! But the phyllo cheese parcels are delicious!
Cosy spot tucked into the heart of town, certainly worth a visit (but make reservations!). Busy-ness adds to the vibe, and lends toward drinks and laughter after dinner! Tapas platter was really good and well worth it, giving you a unique taste of the restaurant itself, and comfortably shared between 2. The riblets were also lovely. I didn't eat the steak or burger, but according to those that did: "Steak was melting in my mouth", "Burger a little dry, but good with the extra sauce"... Drinks and cocktails also slightly pricey, but still good. The only dessert we had was the "Chocolate Samoosa", and this was excellent! All in all a very pleasant evening! I would like to try the tagine just to be adventurous the next time I go!
Rick's Cafe is undoubtedly one of the best places to drink, eat, laugh, and unwind (with the help of their amazing drinks!). I always feel like going to Rick's Cafe is a treat in itself, and I have never had a bad experience. Their vegetarian burger is a delight, and their berry mojito is sublime! An all round great place that needs to be frequented....by everyone.
This was our second visit to Rick's. Love dinning near the fireplace by the bar. The ambiance provides comfort on a cold winters night in C.T.

I adore this restaurant! It's also a stunning venue- the rooftop seats are my favourite. The service is always great and the menu is fantastic! There's a huge selection, also to note that vegetarians also have many options!! This makes it a fantastic place to have a get together or function. Inviting and warm atmosphere, coupled with great food and service. Ambient lighting and unobtrusive music add to a very relaxing vibe. Furthermore, smokers are treated as proper partrons and are accommodated too. What's not to love!? We'll be back many more times!
Thoroughly enjoyed my evening at ricks cafe. They have a large variety of food options to choose from. Although I was in a burger mood, I tried the jalapeño poppers as well from one of my friends, definitely worth trying out. The staff is friendly and the service is great. The ambience of upstairs is sort of vintage, which ties in nicely with the old school American theme. Definitely worth a visit! Great for date night of dinner with friends.

Wow!! This Ricks Cafe Americain was amazing!!! The food was so delious best food I have ever had for a long time... Everyone one ordered different kinds of starters and we sheared them around our table. My burger I ordered was out of this world!! ...This place is such an unique gem in Cape Town ... Differently would love to go back again!... The theme of the restaurant is amazing and it creates a cozy, relaxed atmosphere ... We were all very impressed, had such a positive experience there, the service was helpful, friendly and informative.
Rick's never disappoints. Had a lovely meal with friends last night and as always, we left more than happy. The restaurant is very cozy with a great atmosphere. We tried the butternut and halloumi salad, risotto and some chili poppers that were all very tasty. This is the perfect spot for a nice dinner with friends, catch-up drinks or even a romantic night out!

The hostess seemed very lackluster and not very friendly, cheerful or helpful. One of our waiters who served our food was very uncheerful. However, service from our other waiter and the barman was phenomenal. What was even better was the manager checking on us and the other patrons.

Location is just off kloof street which can make parking tough, but there is parking in the centre. Very jazzy, an island Casablanca feel with lots of woods, lights, reds and greens.

AMAZING. They have a great selection of dishes on the menu including tapas, a vegetarian section, salads, burgers, seafood and various tagines. I usually eat a vegan diet except for when I go out to eat - however I am excited to try their vegetarian selection which is more in line with my diet and far more inclusive for non-meat/dairy eaters.
We ordered the cheese parcels and fishcakes as a starter and they were the best I've had. The cheese parcels are phyllo pastry, sesame seeds, a honey glaze and a mixture of cheese. The fish cakes were served with a tomato and cucumber pickle on the bottom. My boyfriend ordered the BMB burger and really enjoyed it. I ordered their signature lamb shank which came with mash and carrots. It was phenomenal- fell off the bone. However, be careful - their portion sizes are huge, I only managed 3 bites and had to get the rest as a takeaway. We finished off the meal with the baked Moroccan lime cheesecake, which again was absolutely delicious
Highly recommend and will be back soon!
This place is probably the pinnacle of Cape Town's 'bars that everybody keeps thinking is a restaurant for some reason.' I mean yes, they have a kitchen or whatever, but all that means is that this is a drinks place - decent martinis but skip the olives - with a longer-than-average snacks menu.
P.S. Don't watch Casablanca before coming here because a) your makeup will be ruined and b) you will be disappointed at being neither Bogart nor beloved of Bogart.

I've been here a few times and good old Rick's never fail to disappoint. It's not a fancy, hipster place, but you're assured of good service and tasty food whenever you go there. Their lunch special is good value for money, their happy hour is just that, their deck is perfect for a hot summer day and the Tapas plate is phenomenal. I had it for lunch today for the second time and loved it again. Share it with a friend, you won't regret it.
Ricks is definitely one of my all time favorite places in Cape Town. The entire restaurant has warm, welcoming decor and a great atmosphere. Sitting upstairs is an absolute treat-heaters in winter and sprinklers in summer, as well as a lounge-type area that's great for big groups.
Besides the extensive tequila menu which I love, their food menu is equally impressive. Very unique food and options for meat lovers and vegetarians. A must try are the Moroccan cheese parcels! The platters and pita's are also some of my favs.

The best things about Ricks for me, is that they have a large variety of food for vegetarians. We went here a few nights ago and were a large table of 15. Our waiter accommodated us well except for that he didn't want to turn on a heater for us despite the chilly wind on the top deck.
The wine list offers a nice variety to pick from. What I really enjoyed was the hot chocolate which actually comes with a slab of Lindt chocolate and a shot of tequila. Definitely a must try. The cocktails were found to be average.
On this most recent visit we started with tapas and the chilli poppers and cheese parcels were my favourites. The salads were also really good.
Overall it was a good evening out despite the chilly weather. Will definitely be going back to try the veg burger.
Ricks is one of my favourites! Over the years I've spent many evenings with wine and tapas on their upstairs deck but last night was the first time I had a proper meal.
A group of my friends and I had an end of year dinner together - it was fab! The staff are friendly and knowledgable and were very patient when the tequila started flowing.
I had the ostrich burger and was blown away by it - the spices and flavours in the patty were sublime. It was served with a huge portion of chips and a sorbet spoon of coleslaw. I hate coleslaw in general but everything else was absolutely perfect.
Will be back in no time :)

I have to been Rick's a few times, but the other day was the first time I tried their burger, and wow! My sister, as well as my mother, whom are not really burger people absolutely loved theirs as well. I dragged my boyfriend there the very next day and he absolutely fell in love.

We tried various tapas and all of which was delicious especially the duck and vegetable spring rolls and the chili poppers but the giblets and the beef prime rib steak was average. For dessert, I had the chocolate samosas which was absolutely delicious.
The service was slow but then again we were a table of 12. But otherwise, the waiters were friendly.

One of the best places to eat in Cape Town! I went there for their burgers that I have heard so much about. They are huge and will satisfy your hunger for sure. The chips were nice and crispy just the way I like it.
The only think I didn't like was the smell of whatever they use to clean their wooden floors. I think I came in after they just cleaned or something. I could at least identify the smell so I stayed for my meal. I'm sure those who were sitting outside had a lovely time.
What a great vibe, the decor and lighting make for quite the ambience. Thoroughly enjoyed the tapas platter I ordered. Very generous serving best to order to share. The tapas - flavor filled! Sooooo delicious. Also must try the chocolate samoosas.
What a delight! Great atmosphere and a huge selection for vegetarians. We had the Chilli poppers for starters, which were decent. And I had the Lentil & Aubergine bake for mains. I also sampled the Falafel Pita (delivers perfectly) and the Mushroom & butternut risotto (creamy goodness). Portions are huge- small eaters should consider sharing. Such a vibey restaurant just off of Kloof street. There are a lot of tables and every night seems that every seat get filled! Great tapas, salads, burgers and steaks.
I’m a major cinephile and the old Hollywood classics have always amazed me. One of the many classics I have watched numerous times is Casablanca, and, given my thorough enjoyment of the film, it is little wonder that I thoroughly enjoy Rick’s Cafe Americain, named after and based on this timeless film (for those that aren’t familiar with the film, I urge you all to watch it – it’s great, in true classic Hollywood style, and it’ll definitely make you appreciate Rick’s more).

The service was great and friendly. We ordered 4 tapas to share and I woul recommend this to anyone. Mains are so last year! All of the tapas were great but the ribs... Oh my fark they were incredible! I'd get 4 of those next time
Went out for an intimate dinner last night and everything was perfect. The food was juicy and satisfying, the wine was crisp, elegant & fresh and the service was outstanding. Overall a great night👌🏻.
Had a celebratory dinner at Ricks and had an amazing evening. The place was packed but the service was still great. All the people at the table really enjoyed themselves and everyone said their food was amazing. There was a huge variety on the menu and everything I tastes was divine. Will be back whether it's for a quite intimate dinner or some drinks with friends
It was my second visit to Ricks Cafe. Nice vibe, we were hosted in the upstairs lounge room for a hen party and the service was great. They run awesome happy hour specials on cocktails and cocktail jugs which are great for big groups. Food wise, I had a lamb kofta burger, not the best burger I've ever had but their portions are huge so definitely get your money's worth. Will defs be back but mostly for the happy hour 😁
Great food, great atmosphere on a Friday night. One of my favorite restaurants in the cbd. I tend to go with the tajines, they're usually excellent. Good option if you plan on heading out after dinner.
Best Lamb Shank ever! Lovely vibe, nice & cozy. Friendly staff. Been back a couple times because it just is that good. The cosmos are a winner over here too. Perfect for those winter evenings when you don't feel like cooking.
We received great service from the moment we arrived. We didn't have a reservation, but were given multiple great seating options. I recommend the rooftop with mountain views. The food and drinks were also great, my ostrich burger was perfectly done and came in a generous portion.
We were a group of 40 people on the rooftop section and the service I received was excellent, from our arrival, and the waiter keeping me up-to-date with what was happening in the kitchen with our foods, to the bill payment at the end of the day, all was excellent. Even when we had to vacate our table for the next booking, it was done respectfully and we were guided to the couches close by where we could continue our "kuier". Enjoyed the food (we ordered platters), making the booking was easy, the ambience was perfect and of course the view of the mountain was stunning.
Will definitely go again, and will recommend peeps there.
The rooftop seating area is a vibrant spot to host a larger table setting, with views of two large TVs in the event there's an important game on. The staff at Rick's are incredibly efficient and friendly and cope so well with managing a large table setting where there's constant drinks and food orders.
I highly recommend their burgers!

Ricks Cafe Americain is a place that you must definitely visit. The decor, the staff the atmosphere is one to experience.
We had the mojito's on arrival and sticked to it as it was sooo good.
We had the tapas platter, an amazing presentation of the platter, and the taste of the food complimented the presentation.
The top deck is definitely the place to be to experience Table Mountain and Lions Head.
The waitrons were well groomed, and the service was good.
Please do pop in at Rick's Cafe,they will see us again.

An old time favorite of mine for many years! Delicious food not overly priced. So many different & cool little spots to choose to sit. Closed on Mondays! But delightful throughout all seasons. A great winter spot to cosy up and sit by the fireplace drinking hot chocolate
An absolutely amazing vibes, highly recommend their grilled fish of the day it was superb 🤌🏾 the mussels and the cocktail drinks were a definite 5/5

I had one incident where a waiter immediately dismissed us when he realised we were only having cocktails and then proceeded to completely ignore us for the rest of our visit - serving people directly around us when my partner's glass had been empty for about ten minutes. Definitely don't want to be served by him again but otherwise I have only had positive experiences!!
The food was very very tasty. The tagine is highly recommended. The flavours, the layout of the plate etc... Everything was right. The portions are large. Another dish that was good: the shrimp and the steak. Inside you are very cozy and there is a homely atmosphere. You can sit nice and warm by the stove. (this is nice when it's a bit colder outside) the service is very nice and helpful.

We love this place for a chilled lunch in town with spectacular views of Table Mountain. On a warm, sunny day the roof top is the place to be and you can sit down and enjoy some cocktails while being right in the middle of trendy Kloof Street.
They offer daily lunch specials which you can check out on their website beforehand. I always order a burger which comes with onion rings, slaw and an optional side salad or chips. It's really delicious and filling and you won't go home hungry. Whenever we have lunch there, I always order a Virgin Mojito for just R32!!!! It tastes and looks like its big alcoholic brother and is a great alcohol-free alternative during the day.
Until you reach the roof top, you have to climb quite a few stairs, but it's absolutely worth it and we highly recommend that place. Super friendly staff all inclusive!
My fiancé took me here as a surprise because I love the movie Casablanca. It really was amazing! Our waiter Allan took such good care of us and the food was amazing. 10/10
Great location. It can be so busy making it difficult to get hold of your waiter at times but the service is still good. I had the ribeye and roasted veggies with jalapeño & garlic butter sauce and it was divine. The burgers are also juicy and tasty. Balcony is nice and cozy. Will try out the rooftop next time.
Awesome vibe sitting upstairs, breathtaking views of the mountain and city. Food was delicious and service was friendly and delightful. The menu is Moroccan style, with a little bit of everything for everyone (I even ordered a side of humus for my baby☺️). Recommend the tapas platter to start. The middle level has an authentic Moroccan feel, luxurious and warm, and the downstairs bar area has a warm cigar lounge atmosphere. I'd definitely recommend💓

I tried the seafood Tajine but it was very disappointing, R295 one of the most expensive item on the menu but came out salty, overcooked prawns and very fishy.
All the other food I had there were really good!
I have been going to Rick’s regularly, and I have never been disappointed. Food is simple but always very good and tasty. I do recommend the beef fillet with couscous, my favorite 🤩. Chef always nails the cooking of the meat. The staff is professional and friendly, they will make sure you having a great evening. The only thing that could be improved if I had mention one would be the wine menu. Would be nice to have rarer or more original wines.
