Review Manna Epicure - Cape Town Central

Patrick Hartmann
I always come back here for the eggs benedict. I just love them and they are so delicious! I added avo as an extra. And to drink I had a freshly pressed orange juice and a cappuccino. Can‘t go wrong with that one either!

Really great restaurant. Been there two days in a row Probably the best food we had in South Africa
Jamila Malik-Kusi (Dogmumtoskyler)
This was a trip down memory lane as my last visit was about 4 years ago. In not sure if the restaurant has new owners, but it seems to have lost some of its vibe and luster. It was virtually empty when I arrived at 8, with only three tables occupied in the whole restaurant. The door leading into the restaurant was stuck and the open sign on it was a badly hand written one. The food was good, and portion size was OK.

This is one of our favourite Cape Town restaurants. Beautifully decorated and spacious, attentive staff and lovely food ... what more could you ask? Just don't order the potato skins before your meal - they are completely delicious and will fill you up before you start! I usually order the mussels and they never disappoint. The dessert menu is small but delicious ... difficult to choose between the creme brulee and the chocolate fondant- order both and share them! Not perhaps the cheapest of CT restaurants, but excellent value for what they offer.

One of the best restaurants we had dinner at while in cape town! The service was outstanding. The food was amazing from starter to dessert. All vegetarian (but there are meat/ fish options available). We will be back!

Met some work friends for dinner. The restaurant wasn't busy, but it was Tuesday evening before payday. The waitress was attentive and friendly. She recommended the spare ribs as being very tasty and fall off the bone tender. She was spot on. The beers were ice cold. The coffee was decent. Our party of 4 had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. This venue is suitable for romantic dinners with your other half.

We love this little gem of a restaurant so much. We have been going to Manna Epicure for breakfast for years and they just keep getting better. The space is tastefully decorated and the food is tasty. The staff are the best in all of CT in my opinion. Attentive, welcoming and friendly. In the past 6 years we have not had a single bad experience. Highly recommend!

A group of friends & I decided on this place in Burnside Road, Tamboerskloof for a get together. What a great venue, love the interior & it's totally on point, well done. We placed our orders and were blown away by the presentation, quality & taste. If you're looking for that special place to share with great friends, look no further this is it. To the management & staff, thank you for a great experience. Kind regards Ferdie Liebenberg

We just happened to see this place passing by. Oh my hat! What a time we had. Great food, coffee and service. Especially loved the MCC served by the glass 😁. We are planning to make a turn real soon again.

First time at Manna Epicure but certainly not the last! Delicious Salmon Eggs Benny with a cappuccino. Lovely way to start the day and a great deal at 50% off the breakfast menu before 9am each day. Highly recommend this cosy, inviting spot in upper Kloof Street.

Very nice. Good service. We ordered salmon bruschetta and beer beef stew. The salmon bruschetta was a bit average and very little salmon in there. Expected more taste. The beef was good.

Love this restaurant! Staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Perfect in winter as they have a fireplace. Menu changes seasonal and the food and wine are always to die for. 11/10 would recommend for any meal.
Luke Mckend
Had the roast beef sandwich which was served open style with horseradish which was excellent. Rest of the family all enjoyed their brunch including the waffle and poached eggs. Would definitely be back.

Don't miss out on eating breakfast at this awesome restaurant. Tasty, fresh home baked food and very stylish, french chic.

The location is beautiful and the food is delicious. The Florentine Croissant is my favorite if they are not out of Croissants. The waiters are often a bit confused and mix up orders. Especially when you are vegan it can be a hassle. You might want to make a reservation. Parking in front possible.
Alexandra de Swart
This is a very simple yet lovely restaurant. The staff here were absolutely lovely and the food was good. I had oats with a brulé topping which was very creative, making a meal as simple as oats all that more delicious. Overall, I think this is a very nice place.

This was quite an experience for many reasons. We were delivered by Uber to the wrong address which meant a very long walk to the restaurant from Kloof Street, but that is hardly the fault of the restaurant. They understood when I explained we would be arriving a little later than booked. It was a birthday celebration for a friend and they made the right kind of fuss to make her feel special. Not too much and not too little, just right. The hostess/owner? was very gracious. We knew our meal would take longer because of what we ordered, and were advised of such immediately, so no fuss there. We had the fillet prepared for 3 and it was superb and snacked on bread and various flavoured butters beforehand. None of us are great drinkers so we opted for a beer each, which actually complemented the meal well. I asked for a glass of water but got three, no problem there except those chunky glasses. I really don't like them but perhaps they're trendy. Perhaps because of the new venue, not sure, but it wasn't particularly busy for a Friday night. In that sense the older venue in Kloof Street was probably better in that the table we requested near the fire (it was cold and raining that night in August) would have been cosier. The new restaurant is more spacious and I do wish them well. The chef prepared everything fabulously and the menu is well presented, offering just the right choices. The drama for the night wasn't over yet. As we bid our farewells and left to meet the Uber as instructed by Uber, there was a mixup. He didn't have his regular car so the number plate was different. That was a palava and a half but one can't too cautious in a City like Cape Town. We got home safely after a fabulous night out.

We had a delightfully delicious meal, with amazing wine recommendations. The new location is lovely too. Strongly recommended!

NOT A TYPICAL REVIEW: The very first time I went to Manna Epicure I ordered one of the more unusual/unique items off the menu for breakfast - it was a waffle of some sort (can't remember exactly). Shahad loved her food so much and adored the place. Me, however... I tell you, I was so disappointed with the food and the experience, that I told my fiance that I'd never go there again. Couple of months went by and she dragged me along for our second visit. I decided that this time I'm going to play it safe and order something that was more 'typical' of a breakfast type meal. I ordered the minute steak breakfast with an extra piece of coconut bread (toasted) because I remembered that the coconut bread was awesome. Let me tell you something... It's one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! It was so good that we decided to book the next day and we had the exact same breakfast. And let me not even start with the coffee... wow, wow, wow! If you love coffee try their flat white - insanely good. We even had the flat white with an additional shot of espresso our second time and it's just coffee perfection. So... Manna Epicure, I love you. I think I obviously ordered the wrong meal the first time around and it put me off. It's a lesson well learned. Don't let one meal put you off a restaurant, try something else and then make a judgement. Final words... I HIGHLY recommend Manna Epicure!

Best rastaurant and best food I have ever had anywhere in the world! Small, cosy place but don't let it fool you! Staff are so polite and knowledgeable about the food! Manna Epicure have smashed it!

Very disappointed in the menu change. Your breakfast in a bowl - offering potatoes as an alternative to the mainly bread and croissant pairings - was a great choice for those, like myself, with an allergy to gluten. Simply being offered the option to omit the toast without any alternative, as there are no gluten free breads and the potatoes are not prepped, is inadequate. Sorry to say that my boyfriend and I, who live around the corner and have come often, will have to look elsewhere until your menu again becomes friendly and considerate to the estimated 10% of the population with gluten allergies.

Impeccable service, outstanding food, beautiful decor. Have always loved this restaurant - it's one that I keep going back to time and again as the great level of everything is a constant. Noteworthy things: their amazing coconut bread, their delicious green juice and their wonderful manager, Tatenda.
Gordon Ray
The food is consistently good. But I was horrified when I made a trip to the bathroom. Filthy. I posted some pics on Facebook. Seriously, there is shabby chic and then there is dirty. This is just plain unhygienic. Spoiled what was otherwise an enjoyable meal.

Wonderful laid back Sunday breakfast. Good meal and service
Eline Voarick
best breakfast in de world:) and i love their rooibos cappuccino <3
Neels Van Rooyen
Generally good food. On my last visit here, probably 6 months ago, I left without having breakfast after waiting in vain for 30 minutes with no attention from the waiting staff or explanation for the delay. Haven't bothered going back to check whether there has been an improvement.

Friendly staff...excellent breaksfat. ..i like the place on Kloof Street. ..
Elmi Marais
Good food and nice atmosphere, but we were seated at a table in the corner next to the kitchen and there was quite a few flies which wasn't nice. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict (with the spinach, sorry, can't remember the name) and swopped his croissant for ciabatta - unfortunately he was only given one small slice of bread, not nearly the size of my croissant, and left still feeling hungry. Perhaps the waiters should inform you of that in future, especially when it's charged at almost R100...
Nicky Maguire
Delicious food, great service and super restaurant. I’ll definitely be back
Lynda Tickner Schenck
Company was exceptional but service and attitude was disgusting. Food was average. If tip wasn't compulsory because we were a table of 6, we would have left nothing. Not sure I will ever be back
Daniel Halama
WOW! Tolles Restaurant mit einem ausgezeichnetem Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis. Besondes zu empfehlen ist das 2- und 3-Gang Menü welches zwischen 17 und 19 Uhr angeboten wird. Unbedingt reservieren!

Superb breakfast, great ambience and staff

A small restaurant on the popular and busy (especially in tourist season) Kloof street. Subdued decor, good acoustics and comfortable seating make for a pleasant and relaxing experience. The service is on par with much more highly rated establishments - our waiter never missed a beat and was unexpectedly professional. There is a wide selection of meals to suit every taste including vegetarians. Everything is delicious, expertly prepared and plated by the chef. The wine selection covers every possible preference with some good blends that won't break the bank, though be warned the single varietals are some of the highest rated (and expensive) local labels. Corkage is allowed.
I had the lamb shank off the specials board and it was the heartiest meal I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Literally can’t fault anything I’ve had from Manna. Went for a group lunch and everyone enjoyed it. Friendly staff and good food. Recommended

Incredible food as well as service...
My eggs were poached to perfection and the coconut bread is a must have!
I love the decor of this cafe, it has a Parisian feel to it and the dishes were beautifully plated whilst the service was exceptional...worth a try
Matthew Donet
Incredible service with amazing, genuine people. Tatenda went out of his way to accommodate me with kind actions, even though i didn't eat... Will be back definitely for food!

Manna accommodated is last minute. The se vice was ok, food is good. French toast delicious. Croissants are fresh and not oily. Coffee was bitter though and a bit disappointing.
Sarah Thatcher
Delicious brunch spot in Gardens. Ordered the cook up with poached eggs, mushrooms, bacon, sausage, tomato and pecan nut and raisin rye which is delicious. They also offer a coconut bread on top of all the other breads to have with your breakie. Delicious fresh juices and yummy cakes. Always a good breakfast at Manna Epicure.
Jan-Hendrik Vermaak
Cozy and nice..
Very comfortable and easy going vibe, the waiters are friendly and helpful. The food was good and the coffee is okay but not great. Would give it a 4 but the coffee was really not great..

Great quality food. We went here for breakfast, and it was delicious. Also if you get there between 8 and 9 am, the breakfasts are half-price! Excellent value! I had eggs Florentine, which was basically an Eggs Benedict, but served on a croissant with trout/salmon, and it was so tasty. I also tasted their coconut breakfast, which was 2 eggs done your way served with trout/salmon, avo and coconut bread. The coconut bread was way too sweet for my liking, it tasted more like a dessert, but I guess some people might like the sweet and savory contrast. The avo that was served didn't look very appetizing (it was just starting to get black), but I personally didn't mind that because sometimes freshly cut avo's look like that. Also tried the fruit platter, which was a great snack to have before the 'real' breakfasts, although it was a bit too small and lacking in variety (maybe 4-5 small pieces/slices of fruit). Their freshly made juices are great ! I love that they not too stingy with the amount of ginger they add (if you choose it), as it gives a real kick. Will definitely be back here again for breakfast, and maybe even try out their lunch/dinner menu soon.

This is an amazing spot. So good on the eye! The plating of the food is beautiful, I didn’t even want to touch my food because it looked too beautiful. The food itself was equally impressive. Service was good. Definitely a place to check out

Cute little breakfast spot in the heart of Cape Town. I had the french toast croissant and it’s was amazing. I was expecting it to be quite sweet but it was the perfect balance of savory and sweet. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to have a quick coffee and bite to eat! The staff are great and please do yourself a favor and order a slice of their coconut bread!
Sarah Mcghie
I came here for the weekly early dinner special! We had the 2 course option which was filling and delicious! I had the roast chicken breast with veg for mains, it was fabulously plated, the chicken was tender and the sauce was delicious! Others had the beef schnitzel and battered hake and chips! Everyone enjoyed their mains and were satisfied! For dessert I had the ice-cream (chocolate and vanilla) which was perfect as the evening was hot! I loved the ice cream and tasted the baked cheesecake and creme brûlée and they were amazing! Tatenda was a great host and our waiter was super nice and attentive!
Lucy McGhie
Wow! Great service and great food! The waiter was excellent looked after us very well and the manager, Tatenda was very friendly and welcoming. Had an awesome evening here and would recommend going there for a good tasty dinner !

I just had the worst experience here today.

A waiter, who already had an attitude, served us and when asked for condiments, blatantly ignores me!

I spoke to the manager, did not see any reprimanding and when he came to my table, what was suppose to be an apology was lacking in EVERY aspect!

CUSTOMERS ARE THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR BUSINESS AND BECAUSE OF THIS I WILL NOT COME BACK!!!!!!!!
Kay-Lee Franco
We arrived here on Sunday at 7.54am and it was raining. When we were outside the small gate was locked so we called the manager who told us we only open at 8am (so 6 minutes after our arrival). We said no problem and just asked if we can wait under the cover on the outside part of their restaurant as we were standing in the rain on the street. His reply was that it would be a big problem for him. We then said but we just want to not be in the rain, you open in 5 minutes and he said well it would just be too much of a problem for him for us to wait there and we can’t come in. Pity when such a nice restaurant has such a useless and rude manager which makes it that loyal customers like ourselves will never go back. ( we didn’t catch his name but he had gelled back dark Hair with an accent).

Update: returned for their 3 course dinner special at only R185!

Service here is superb! Attentive, warm and friendly waiters. Food is served very quickly. Absolutely cannot fault the service here.

Had the calamari for starters, mussels for mains and the cheesecake for dessert. The calamari was super yummy and a massive portion that could easily pass for a main. The mussels were not my fave, lacked seasoning and I’m generally not a fan of mussels in butter sauce. But the cheesecake was amazing!

Judging by the menu and the orders from surrounding tables, I think meat may be their forte and looking forward to return for an awesome steak.

Review 1: Came here for a quick breakfast. Still dreaming about that coconut bread! It is definitely the star of the show. Wonder if they sell the bread by the loaf... I'd go back just for that!

We decided to have our Fathers Day breakfast at Manna Epicure. First time here. The atmosphere was pleasant, decor modern & trendy, although you wouldn't notice this from the road. The tables outside are quite basic. We reserved a table inside for 10. I was told over the phone that we had an hour & a half & then had to leave. I wasn't too phased about that. In the end it wasn't actually busy, so I don't understand the limitation? Our waitress was lovely & very friendly & really made an effort to make our experience a good one. We had to wait for our food for a while though, we were forgiving, considering our big table. The food however was average, but not bad either. You could see that it had been sitting for a few minutes before it came to the table. And then... one of the male waiters assisting our waitress who brought our food to us, showed how irritated he was when we misunderstood him and had to ask him to repeat the order a few times, until we realized what he meant. We were friendly & giggled, but he wasn't impressed. So, that's the first star removed. Then, unfortunately the bathrooms were not very nice. They have taken rustic to a whole new level. And haven't bothered maintaining the basin & floors. It looked dirty, but actually it just needed a fresh coat of paint. Over all, we enjoyed our breakfast, but due to unfriendly waiter and dodgy bathroom, we won't rush back.

It was my dad's birthday on Saturday so we decided to treat him to a fabulous breakfast. Manna Epicure keeps popping up as the ultimate place to have breakfast so naturally this was the chosen one. I'm sad I went with such high expectations as it really disappointed. I called at 8am, was told no need to make a reservation just come, arrived only to be told it's full and they always recommend making a reservation at Manna. A couple was getting ready to leave so luckily there was a table but can you imagine the disappointment !? On my fathers birthday ! Why didn't you take my d*$m reservation ?? Anyway. Yes it was early, yes it was raining, but that is no excuse for the waiter to match the weather. His service was seriously lacking ! And when he spoke he spoke so softly we had to ask him to repeat himself twice, so you can imagine the added annoyance. The food arrived and it was average. My poached eggs I asked for soft and runny, it came medium. My sister wanted hers hard, it came like bricks. The bacon was fried until it was dead. The noises from the kitchen are so loud and in your face it's best not to talk much. We were not happy at all, that much I can say. Guess this is why everyone goes for the half price breakfast instead of the full price. The coconut bread everyone raves about is good though, great for the cold weather. Also, it is a beautiful restaurant. Everything else, no. Perhaps I just chose the wrong day to go.

We've been here a couple times for their breakfast special. Well worth it. Coffee, breakfast, and service are all very good. Next time we'll try the dinner menu!
Keri
Always have good meals here - generally here for breakfast. Service is a bit slow but the food is always on point so makes up for it. They're also always accommodating if you want to change your meal up a bit.

Breakfast and brunch was amazing

Need to taste dinners and ambiance :)

The wine list looks quite good but pending to taste..

Service is awesome

Beautiful restaurant. Very busy for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Friendly staff. They took a while to prepare our breakfast but it was worth the wait. Poached eggs were perfection personified.
My Rooibos tea was served in a beautiful cup. Would definitely go there again. The whole experience made up for the expensive breakfast.
Claudia Penny
I can't believe I didn't know about their breakfast special earlier! All breakfasts are half price between 8am and 9am daily during the week.

The venue is very pretty, it's open and light and airy and on the road which makes for excellent people-watching. We came here last week and we're the first table in the restaurant. The service was quick and efficient and special kudos to the waiter who made double-sure that we were happy to wait as they got their hollandaise just perfect.

-and they did! This was probably in my top 3 eggs Benedict in Cape Town so far so yay!

I also had a chai latte and my boyfriend had a cappuccino. Both were delicious. I can't wait to make some kind of excuse to go back.
Sam
Beautiful restaurant situated in gardens. The decor is pretty with a lovely ambience for a date.

The menu is very limited, would have loved to try the mussels starter but they were out of stock - something that should be mentioned upfront not after you decide to order it.

I had the pan fried chicken breast with a mushroom sauce which was yummy with a little too much salt in the sauce.

Fiancé enjoyed his battered hake with mushy peas which just needed a little salt. Prob the best fish and chips we ate on this trip, beat the horrible ones we at at Kalky's in Kalk Bay.

The eggplant dish and the calamari was also a hit.

I love the watermelon martini I tried but not the mai tai that much.

Overall lovely little restaurant with delicious food.
Kavana Anand
We went for breakfast and ordered 3 eggs omelet with toast. Added mushrooms to it. It was yum and quite a big portion.
The ambiance was good to look at but there were one or two houseflies buzzing around. They must adapt some efficient methods to get rid of them, otherwise good start to the day with delicious breakfast.
Karin Steenkamp
I arrived there with friends. The drinks took a bit long but the food was great. The food portions was big and great value.I would say that the only criticism i have is that they need a bigger variety of ciders.

Manna epicure is a fine dining restaurant situated high up on Kloof street in GARDENS this little gem is serving , breakfast , lunch and dinner …offering a south african and french cuisine with a new argentinian twist ! the place is neat and the service is one notch above my usual “cafes” i would say .
Saf1
Again Tiyaarah dragged us here as apparently breakfast before 9am is half price. Yippee seeing that daddy has to keep paying. Had fresh fruit platter and muesli. Then onto the eggs benedict which was nice Service was friendly. And thanks for half price guys. Need to save some bucks....junk status may affect me in big way

I booked at Manna Epicure for a family reunion with 8 incredibly fussy individuals with peculiar food requirements... and everyone loved their meal! The waiter was wonderful, the food was outstanding and the only downside to the whole evening was that we had to fight over the last kingklip available. Everything from the beef carpaccio, to the tuna steaks, to the ribeye was cooked to perfection and I even had someone claiming they ate the most delicious broccoli they had ever eaten. We will definitely be back and I am surprised the restaurant wasn't busier.
Janice Stipp De Faria
Manna epicure was the pick of the month for our once a month dinner date with our best friends. (spot no. 37 #37monthsofdinnersinanrow)
What a gorgeous little spot. Our waiter Jaun gave us such great service. Starters were good; calamari was amazing; ribs main meal was fall of the bone tender. And the males pudding and citrus tart 👐. Overall experience was good; and would definately recommend
What a quaint setting! I cannot believe it was my first time here since they've opened. The all white, minimal interior is nearly as welcoming as the staff that work here. They were attentive, polite and friendly. I had a great (yet strong) flat white, and the salmon scramble with rye toast. It was filled with salmon, which was great to see. The setting, food and service are three great reasons to come for breakfast. You won't be disappointed!
Jackie Platt
This is the best eggs Benedict in cape town. The first 2 times i have been this was fantastic. However the last time we went and asked for soft eggs , they came hard and really ruined the dish
Coffee is very good and juices fresh.
Leila Rossouw
My cousin recommended I try this place as she loves it so much. I like the set up, cute and intimate. I had the ginger and apple juice (the ginger was quite potent and asked to have more apple added), I had the florentine and it quite yummy. The fruit platter wasn't the best but anyways. The honey hazelnut latte was good too.
Tiyaarah Cloete
Still one of the best breakfast places in Cape Town. This hidden little gem is a breakfast lovers dream. They have the best coconut bread around. I've been here on several occasions and have not once been disappointed. It's especially worth it, to get up early and have their half priced breakfasts between 8-9am.
Zanenkululeko Belot
Quaint, with a great view of the street and life passing you by. I opted for a latte and their French Toast Croissant, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Staff was far more attentive this tine around
Georgia Blueberrii
Most amazing breakfasts. Best Egg's Benedict in Cape Town. Don't leave without trying the coconut bread (which is quite cake like) but warning, you will need to come back for more
Robin Mahlangu
They have a lovely breakfast special between 08:00 and 09:00. Delightful place to have breakfast, with seating overlooking the sidewalk. They do the small things right and pay attention to detail. Just a wonderful experience overall.
Marentia Van Kasterop
We went into Manna just because of the smell of freshly baked bread. They are definitely one of the above average venues in Kloof street.

The presentation of the food was really nice and it was equally tasty.

Very friendly helpful staff.

Do give them a try 😁😁

Marlon Alcock
Yum yum FN yum... read about this place on various platforms & had to give it a go. Easy Sunday from our neck of the woods to Gardens & 1st thing that struck me was the easy nature of the place. Served me with good coffee, which is always my benchmark for small independent places. I've had bad experiences with rib eye & this would've been my swan-song on it if it we're to be as k*k as the others. But it didn't disappoint this time. Mrs had poached egg something(safe) but that too was done very very well. It's a perfect getaway from the hustle & bustle of CBD & offers a good sit down & chat spot.
Greg Christy
Parking can be a mission - but on saying that it has the friendliest car guard in Cape Town who works this stretch. Visited for lunch . Service was very friendly but a bit slow and the restuarant was not that busy so no excuse .
I had the chicken burger which was really very tasty and a good choice My wife had the Patagonia calamari Panko . We were expecting the small tubes typical of patagonica squid but instead crumbed strips were presented . The calamari was tasteless and I suspect that it was Argentinian Illex .
Cappuccino and a slice of coconut bread to share finished the meal of nicely .
Would I go back . Sure but breakfasts are better ,
Jakub Vanek
We Love this place. Great breakfast - I always go for anything with their Coconut bread. If we go for dinner we have chateaubriand - the best in town!
Raeesa Naik
Absolutely loved this quaint little café and I adored the wonderful service! The chai latte is awesome, and it is accompanied by a buttery biscuit that makes my heart melt. If you're on the health buzz, you can choose your own mix of freshly squeezed fruit juices.
I tried one with Apple, pear, ginger, cucumber & orange - this was refreshing and I recommend it! Hand cut fries are incredibly delicious, and cakes are decadent. Well worth a visit!
Anja Immelman
Although the restaurant is set in an old building that's has a very authentic Cape look to it, this restaurant feels like it would've been a higher end restaurant in the 90's. The way the food is presented, the flavors, the type of waiters, the music, etc.

Strolling by, the sunlit stoep seemed nice and cozy, so we went for a light lunch. Would like to see what type of ambience the place has at night.

I’ve lived a few blocks from Manna Epicure since before it opened and finally pulled in on Sunday. Had the most amazing breakfast. I've got a lot of catching up to do!
Adriana Holzmann
A beautiful little restaurant with an excellent menu, friendly entertaining staff and a world class fillet and a lemon meringue cake to die for.
Jami Priessnitz
Eggs Benedict, fruit platter, toasted croissant and lattes at this beautiful little gem. White table service, beautiful decor and friendly staff. A bit expensive for the portion size but very yummy 🍳🍳Elizabeth Ridgway Justin Hill Amber Kneisel #thebreakfastclub

So they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, what a true statement this is when you step into manna epicure for a good brekkie/brunch!

Around the table, orders consisted of the coconut breakfast, calamari salad, minute steak breakfast and scrambled eggs with smoked trout. When the plates arrive the food looks very little, but trust me as you get stuck in you will struggle to finish it. Top favourites definitely consisted of the coconut bread and the calamari salad is out of this world!!

They not shy to charge on the alcohol side but food prices are definitely worth it!
Service was top notch, with completely attentive waiters. I will definitely be back again!!

Have a new favourite breakfast spot in Cape Town. Manna Epicure is such a stunning spot on Kloof. Staff are friendly, great value for money, the food is to die for and ordering a latte turns out to be super fun! :)
Nic Shackle
I really enjoy this place. Set menu is a winner - R150 for the three course option. They also have a great breakfast special between 8 and 9 (if I remember correctly).
Gabriela Limberis
Mana Epicure has a very tranquil and rustic vibe. The decor makes you feel very relaxed yet you still know that you are at a higher end restaurant.
We both had the fish of the day, it was overcooked. The smashed potatoes were delish.
I wouldn't recommend it if you're on kloof street for dinner perhaps it's more of a breakfast spot!
Kerissa Naidoo
Decided to go to Manna Epicure after a hike this morning for a quick breakfast. I've had breakfast here before but didn't think much of it but the coconut breakfast this morning was amazing! Can't wait to go back and have it again.
Jessica Stromin
I had breakfast here on Sunday, a real treat! We had a couple of friendly, on-the-ball waiters who made sure we were always happy. We started off with a cappuccino, latte (with came as a cup of steamed milk and an espresso on the side - very cute!) and juice (Orange, Apple and carrot). The coffees were creamy and rich, and the juice was fresh! The food was delicious, although the portion sizes were inconsistent. I had the Parma Style breakfast which was great, but quite small, and my friend had the Eggs Benedict Croissant which was huge! All in all, a scrumptious and pleasant morning spent at Manna!
Celeste Tsang
Lovely restaurant. Interior is average. The fillet steak was superb!! Portions are small but you are paying for quality and not quantity. Was a bit disappointed in the creme brule as the consistency was just to thick. Would definitely go back for the fillet.
TerryCPT
My absolute favorite spot in the Mother City for #breakfast. Their coconut bread rocks my world and their flap jacks won't disappoint. But I frequent for the pouched eggs - truly well done! An absolute must try
Nic Hern
I'd heard quite a bit about Manna before giving it a try and I must say it didn't quite live up to my expectations😊 The food was good but not amazing and the service was a bit below standard😔 all that being said after all the hype I'm sure I'll give it another try😊

Went for breakfast last week. I had somewhat of an eggs Royal but instead of an English muffin I had their coconut bread which I highly recommend. I love the atmosphere and they weren't terribly busy so you were still able to have a good conversation. We went a bit later on in the morning so we missed out on the breakfast special but I hear it's great value for money so I'll be trying that next time

First visit here for a while and my experience was a very mixed one. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but it certainly lacked the wow factor that it used to have. Of the starters only the flavors of the buffalo mozzarella really stood out. The calamari and Camembert were actually very bland. The Chateaubriand for mains was ok, but for chalmar beef it really wasn't up to their usual quality. Otherwise the flavors were there. The fish of the day was a real disappointment for one of our guests. She absolutely loves fish and wasn't impressed at all. I hope Manna can pick itself back up to the standards we know it for, and I will be back.

Had a Sunday breakfast after hearing about this spot on Kloof. Food was great, had a basic 2 eggs on toast but the poached free range eggs were delicious and creamy done perfectly and the toast I chose was pecan and raisin rye which was different but went down well. The coconut toast is also a winner and with it's sweet taste gives the savoury a taste explosion as does the balsamic reduction they put on the side of the plate.
Not sure what coffee they use but it's good, and strong.
Only negative was that the service was a bit slow. The waiters were attentive when they came around but maybe slow because it was busy.

@allright like so many Cpt cafes, good food but small portions at a hefty price..if you like to believe you are trendy then thats the place for you, service can be slow..some of the waiters looked red eyed babbelas...maybe that was just me...
Debbie Christy
Came for a late breakfast with my daughter. Lovely white decor with hanging plants and quirky chandeliers. I ordered the "classic " and my daughter ordered the croissant eggs Benedict. Delicious and perfect poached eggs, and the coconut bread is to die for!! Bacon was nice and crispy, pork sausage great. Actually I cannot find fault with anything! We will be back often. Next time I want to try the lunch menu X

I'd give the food 4.5 but service gets 2.5. Slow slow slow . Calamari amazing, fillet delish, mussles really tasty. Side of artichokes, sundried tomato, anchovies and potato was a winner

Great breakfast. Love the décor!! Service was a little slow on the day I went - but they were very busy so its understandable. Really nice menu.

One of the best meals I have had, service was good and setting was nice and cozy, great for a dinner treat with friends, I had a T-Bone, the first time I have ever ordered that at a restaurant based on the waiters recommendation and it was phenomenal, best steak I have ever had.

I popped in there on Wednesday afternoon at about 17h00. We were only 3 customers at 2 tables, and there were 3 waiters on duty. No manager was on duty. The owner walked through the restaurant with her daughter on her way home, and we had a social chat, but she did not check how the service was. I wanted to order the calamari starter, but was worried about the Szechuan pepper being too strong. I asked the waiter about it, and he said that it is mixed into the Panko Crumbs. He assured me that it was not too strong in taste. Based on that information, I asked if they could just do a test strip for me, so that I did not have to return the whole dish if it was too strong. He went to check with the kitchen. As I was sitting closest to the kitchen, I heard his request to the chef, who looked at me as if I had lost it. I chatted to him, and it turns out that the pepper is in fact added afterwards, which meant that the waiter had not been properly trained as to the dish ingredients. I asked the waiter how long he had worked there, and he said a 'long time', which was one month when I asked him more specifically! When I asked for the bill, he wanted to clear the table first, and the same happened when I asked him to bring my change! There was no goodbye or thanks expressed when I left. The poor service and attitude of the staff does not match its food, usually being of a good quality.

I'm in love!
Their coconut breakfast was amazing.
Salmon, Avo, eggs and yummy coconut bread.
All the flavors worked, all the yumminess on one plate.
Great service as well.

Popped into Manne Epicure for a quick bite this afternoon.

The Resturant wasn't too busy, probably because the weather was showing off and everyone was on the beach. The service was good, our waiter very energetic and the food satisfying. I landed up having the mushroom risotto which, if I had a bigger stomach I would have finished. I also had a fresh and tasty wild rocket and Parmesan salad - light and simple.

So the reason why we actually visited Manne was because they've recently started offering halaal certified meat. I didn't have the meat myself, but I hear it's good. So worth a try.

Overall a decent lunch or dinner spot with good food. And from the reviews I've read, I'm yet to try them for breakfast.

Brilliant breakfast menu. The omelette was beautifully stuffed with quality prepared fillings such as roasted tomatoes and mushrooms. The coffee was expertly made which always adds generously to my rating. Would definitely go again - need to try lunch next time .

Just had a salad and it was world class........great location for lazy arvie's. Good service and very accommodating.

Mains looked slim on veg options but sure they would have whipped up something should the need have arisen.

Def worth a visit

I've only ever been here for breakfast and a green juice. The most perfect poached egg I've ever had!

Will update this review after I've tried the day and dinner menu's.

I simply love Manna Epicure, been quite a few a times and the food and service never disappoints! Their breakfast is my favourite. I usually have the classic which includes bacon, eggs (the essentials😜) but sometimes I go for the waffle with golden syrup which is also divine! I have ordered lunch once which was the epicure burger, if you're feeling ravenous it's the best choice!
My boyfriend swears by the coconut breakfast which includes eggs, salmon and avocado on coconut bread.
The setting is lovely, one of my favourite places in Cape Town!

This fresh and crisp venue is on the right end of Kloof street with food also on the right end of the scale.

The menu is great - nothing boring. They've paid attention to creating some tasty masterpieces. We visited for lunch and the place was bustling with yummy mummies and business folk. Good atmosphere which rounded off the experience.

Service was attentive and management was in the ground rather than hiding in the back.

Two words: Soooo goooood

Had the beef spare ribs which was falling off the bone. Also they have bacon and cheese chips, do I need to say more?!

This is not a place for vegetarians. The options that are available are average at best. It's a nice enough setting, and there's decent service, but those are secondary to the food. Unfortunately I am not their target market.
Sandile Shangase
Our waiter was a little over eager and changed the drinks we wanted. I think can pick my own drink my Chief. They messed up my sister in-laws order which was an #EpicFail. I had the Sticky Pork Ribs which like everything in Cape Town tastes awesome. If you like great food and are forgiving of below average service come here. #LoveFood

The steaks were excellent. We tried the fillet and the ribeye, and they were right up there with the best steaks we've had in Cape Town. The sides were also good; we went for the sautéed mushroom with spinach and onions, and the cauliflower and broccoli with roasted garlic and almonds slivers.

We did try a starter (prawns; well cooked but a small portion) and dessert (red velvet cheesecake, not very flavourful and oddly coated in fondant); would recommend skipping these and focusing on the steaks. Which we will be doing again soon.

I went to Manna for a late Saturday lunch with some friends. We enjoyed chilled pink champagne and I, after having such a heavy week of eating, opted for the caprese salad. It was lovely and green, just what I wanted. The fresh mozzarella was awesome dressed in some balsamic. After I finished my salad, I "helped" my friend Natalie with her chips. Although I don't eat mussels, I dipped the chips in the sauce and it was very, very tasty.
I've also been to Manna before, with my husband. I can highly recommend the côte de boeuf for two. Mmmm béarnaise.
I've yet to try out the breakfast, but I'll be back.

Becoming a firm favourite of mine. Solid good feel food in a calm setting. Watch Kloof Street go by sitting on the roadside. The Peacan and Raisin bread is only rivaled by the slice of coconut bread from heaven. #goodness right there

Manna Epicure was recommended to me on Twitter after I asked my followers where they would go for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I was specific about wanting to try restaurants in Kloof Street, but recommendations came fast and furious and not only limited to Kloof Street. After a little help from Google, I settled on Manna Epicure. When I sent a tweet to a friend saying she won, I have decided on her choice, she sent me back a message saying ,“Corrections, you WON” and was she was right.

I liked the restaurant from the moment I walked in. It’s cosy but the tables are not too close together, so you can have some privacy. I liked our waiter. He was friendly and knew the menu well. He even said he didn’t like how the pulled pork turned out. I sat there thinking should he say that? The answer is yes. It simple means that he wouldn’t serve anything less than perfect. I was quite impressed by that.

I ordered my chicken ceaser sandwich at ease because I knew it would look and taste great. My friend couldn’t resist sirloin which came with chips. She didn’t leave a piece on her plate. The food was delicious. I made a mistake of not reading all the stuff that was on my sandwich and unfortunately there was bacon. Taking the bacon off was no trouble and the waiter even apologized for that, twice. I just cannot fault Manna Epicure at all.

I would go back any day.

This is the perfect breakfast/lunch spot for just a quick bite to eat or to celebrate a special occasion! Whatever it is you won't be disappointed! The food is great, with a good selection of breakfast and lunch dishes that are perfectly portioned! The atmosphere is inviting, warm and the service is brilliant! There are breakfast/lunch/dinner specials too! Half price breakfasts before 9am! Hello! Their freshly pressed juices are delicious too - try the beetroot, ginger and apple!

Beautiful atmosphere perfect spot for breakfast or brunch. Manna is always really busy and service is good! Most recently I went with friends and had the breakfast croissant which was fresh and delicious, the make your own omelette and French toast croissant looked really good too!

My first time here and hopefully the first of many visits. Outstanding food and service, and I tasted other dishes (fish, steak and risotto) which were all superb.

The vibe is a mix of cosy, smart, upmarket yet chilled.

Perfecting the art of breakfast! Mana has fantastic scrambled eggs and bacon and an even better eggs Benedict. I was thrilled with their winter special which offered half price before 9am as some of their breakfasts are quite pricey. Definitely a regular breakfast spot :)

BREAKFAST: Good. Eggs Benedict is delicious. Coffee and fresh juices are good. Prices reasonable.

LUNCH: not great and overpriced. Had the Patagonia calamari. It was very rich and way too oily. Also too salty and drenched in a rich mayo sauce. I could not taste the actual calamari, only the oily bread crumbs it was caked in. You have to order and pay for your sides separately which makes the lunch cost close to R200, excluding drinks. Not a good experience especially for what you pay! Will not be back for lunch.

SERVICE & AMBIENCE: The restaurant is clean. Great location. The service is friendly and they are very attentive.

What an amazing night at Manna tonight! I was the ditzy and forgetful wife who forgot to book hee husbands birthday dinner and they accommodated me when i called this morning! Also had a guest drop her burger on the floor and they graciously comped another! Amazing food. ..and absolutely beautiful setting and a warm and inviting atmosphere. Love . love love thjs place! What excellent service

We went here for a lazy Sunday morning brunch and it certainly didn't disappoint. Poached eggs are the best I've had so far. My boyfriend swears by the honey and nut latte and after having a sip of it, I can attest to its deliciousness. The service was attentive as always. Go if : you fancy a cup of good coffee to wake you up and a somewhat more artisan breakfast. Don't go if : you're keeping it cheap and cheerful. Don't miss : the pecan nut and raisin bread is to die for. They also currently have a half price @special on their dinners from 5-7pm!

Had breakfast there and it was amazing, service was a bit slow, but it was a lazy Saturday morning and I was in no hurry. I loved the freshly baked coconut bread. Will definately go back for a lunch or dinner, the menu looked incredible I had to concentrate to stop myself from salivating while reading through it.

My brother told me about this ages ago, went with him again for a second time. I had a great 3 egg low carb breakie. Good coffee, usually have the flat white. The healthy breakie my brother had looked good but I would recommend they chop up the fruit in future. Easier to mix and eat. Some great decor and all white which gives that super clean feel. Will definitely pop in again. I would recommend you try it.

A casual little restaurant nestled on the upper end of Kloof street. At first it doesn't catch the eye, but once you go inside you are mesmerised by their various chandeliers and cakes, lots of cakes. Some of these cakes are even gluten free (cue health people). As a big cheese fan, their baked camembert starter is mouthwateringly delectable, even though it is simple. The mussel pot is highly recommended, even to share around the table. The overall vibe is great and is always a pleasure.

Possibly the best calamari I've ever had! Such a nice atmosphere, service and food. Always a great time when I go there and the calamari never disappoints!!
Chad Michael Henson
Best chicken breast I have ever eaten - and I eat whole lot of chicken. It's a really nice place to go for date night, or for dinner with your family. They have nice wine, it's well priced and the service is good. Their breakfasts are also cool, and it's a just generally a really nice spot on kloof street. Dominique Andrea Vieira

I absolutely love this breakfast spot. I love how it is decorated and they have the tastiest coconut bread. The waiters are always very friendly. Breakfast is half price everyday between 8am-9am.

This place is super yum! Love the decor and the food and the location is super central too. Pop by for some home baked bread and some healthy freshly squeezed juices.

I must admit I was quite impressed with the place.
The girlfriend loves it. She always has whatever fish dish is going. Me? I have been here three times now and it always seems well prepared and tasty.

I recently had the winter menu curry, and of the meals there so far, it was for me the most disappointing. I am not saying it was enjoyable.. Just not as much as the missus' meal. It has nice decor...all clean and white and we felt that we had the place almost to ourselves when we arrived.. (The rain outside was soo sooo heavy) but it filled up quickly.

Service was good. One of the better choices when we are going out for a meal.
Melissa Sanderson
Enjoyed a fabulous breakfast here. The lunch and dinner menus make me keen to return at another time of day!
The space is intimate and cosy, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food is art on a plate. Truly a character-filled venue.
Plus added bonus: breakfast is half price before 9am! I'm not sure if this special is on weekdays only so please check before taking my word!
Linda
What a lovely breakfast at Manna Epicure ! I just love the simple layout, white decor & arty finishes. That wooden light (love)!! Our waitress was very friendly and super efficient . We also happen to make it in time for their breakfast special (50% off between 8am-9am), which was an added bonus. Food was delicious & their portion of bacon is proper!! All round great time, yet to have a bad experience at this lovely little place on kloof street .

Absolutely delicious breakfast menu. Both traditional and alternative options - all very simple, well presented and perfected paired foods. Fresh juices and freshly baked goods are definitely an attraction and very welcomed aromas.Super friendly and pleasant service. Also, very quick service - so good for a quick breakfast pop-in or if preferred, a slowly Sunday morning outing.Beautiful, pristine setup and location. Perfect sunny morning breakfast spot.

My favourite place for a good clean slap up breakfast. Lovely bread and sandwiches. During Loadshedding can still get a hot breakfast. This made me very happy today.
William Hillock
This place is just the best. Go there often but my recent experience was during load-shedding. They are FULLY prepared for it, serving everything except coffee (which wasn't a problem - we brought our own from home and they did not mind). Amazing breakfast - all fresh and tasty. Everyone is friendly and happy. Super clean. Definitely my #1 breakfast spot in Cape Town.
Extremely good service, great vibes and waiters that show an interest in their service. The cocktails are real quality and the food is fantastic. Try the Rose Crush cocktail!

We would like to start off by saying that the red meat is halal at this restaurant. Given that we had to try it. The meat was incredible and so was all the amazing freshly baked desserts. Another winner is the amazing fish burger on freshly baked bread.Read our full review on our blog. We would definitely fo back to this little gem.
