Review Kloof Street House - Cape Town Central

We were 6 without a reservation, we waited about 15 minutes and it was totally worth it. Delicious dinner, amazing drinks and excellent service. Seth was amazing and very forthcoming, he definitely made our experience memorable. Thanks!

The setting is truly unique and really a dining experience to remember, both outside in the garden and especially inside in the library. Service is interesting, but professional. Star is the food, absolutely stunning. Delicious.

This place seems to be nice for a group. As solo traveller, I made a booking in advance for dinner. The table was (unfortunately) right next to the entrance where you have less visibility on beautiful decorations. So I recommend to go as a group, more than 4 ppl. Had burger, very juicy patty, and a pint of beer. Will definitely try cocktails later. Oh, the dessert was actually Crème de la crème, dark chocolate fondant with burnt marshmallows and vanilla ice cream. You should try it. Yum!

An absolute gem in every context. The decorations and overall atmosphere are close to perfect. Service is friendly and great. But the highlight is of course the food. An ideal selection, not too much, not too little, of high quality, incredibly tastefully prepared meals. Highly recommend the oysters as a starter and and ostrich main. Overall, a must visit for tourists and an incredible treat for locals.

Wonderful ambiance, highly attentive service, delicious wine menu and unique ostrich main made this place positively exquisite. The garden is nicely decorated for evening meals outside and the we finished with cocktails in the bar which was equally stunning. Can’t recommend the ostrich enough— easily one of the best meals I’ve had in South Africa!

Kloof Street House is an incredible restaurant with a bustling atmosphere and a constant flow of people. The food is top-notch and the hospitality of Forrest is truly exceptional. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with warmth and kindness, making you feel like a valued guest. The overall experience at Kloof Street House is nothing short of amazing and I cannot recommend it enough.

This was the best place we ate at in South Africa. My friend and I are both seasoned traveler with 50+ countries each and have eaten all over the world. This was one of the best restaurants we’ve been to. The atmosphere was amazing like a cozy living room. The service was great. Our waitress came over regularly to check up on us and have us good recommendations. The lamb was one of the best I’ve had but the stand out was the ostrich steak it was the best ostrich I’ve ever had by a mile. The chili grilled prawns was also really really good. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely time at Kloof street house. The food was delicious and there was a vast drinks menu to chose from. The ambience is cool and provides some good photo opportunities. We did find the reservation process behind the times by having to email and also confirm the day before to email to avoid losing the reservation. It was also a cold evening and we couldn’t swap our outside reservation to inside but other than that would recommend.

Kloof Street House is a must-visit! With exceptional food, outstanding service, and a lively crowd, this restaurant truly stands out. Every dish was a delight, the staff were attentive and efficient, and the atmosphere was vibrant and inviting. Highly recommend for a memorable dining experience.

Ooh lah lah!!!! What an amazing place with an amazing vibe! It is quite pricey but worth the money. The waitresses are stunning and the staff helpful. Victorian-style restaurant with unique decor. Perfect place for drinks with friends or a romantic date night.

It saddens me to give you this review. We visited your establishment yesterday for lunch, what a terrible experience it was. This was a business lunch, a party of 7 guests. Our waitress (Tatenda), i think has possibly confused the level of service required when serving your patrons and should never ever work front of house at any restaurant. Problems experienced: Tatenda paid very little attention to detail or our table for that matter. The steaks which we ordered were served on a grey slate. Your staff need to inform patrons that the steak is served on a hot slate as this will always continue to cook the meat. I am pretty sure that your chefs are competent enough to cook steaks according to preference and for reason it tells me that our heated plates stood on a heated server for some time before arriving at our table as the steaks (all 5 of them were already grey in colour and rubber like in texture). These were Rib Eye steaks and should never be like that. The food was taken back by the manager who did apologise, but not before Tatender proceeded in picking up my Colleagues plate which had already had the steak cut into by him and decided to instruct me to take his plate with a different side on it as it was more to what i had ordered. I refused and the steaks were then recooked. Tatenda also mixed the up the drink orderl, but we opted to just leave that as is. Our bill ended up R3749.62. tip included of R416.62. In a scenario like this, your waitress did not deserve a cent of that tip. We often visit your restaurant, both in a personal and business capacity and have always enjoyed the food and service. I also transport tourists and very often refer my customers to your restaurant based on service and food quality. I'm always boasting about your review / rating and the fact that everyone raves about your food. There are some serious issues which need addressing. It seems that your day time staff don't quite match up to the evening staff when the restaurant is pumping with people. the staff look slow and not really interested in being there and this rubs off and really creates a negative experience for your patrons. I hope you will take on board what has been raised here and I pray that the next visit i make to your restaurant will once again be a positive one. Thank You

I hurts me to give a bad comment if the place look amazing. Where do I star! We had dinner there and what a let down. There was 9 of us. There wasn’t enough space for us to all sit comfortably. To say that we have made a booking. The food wasn’t great for what you pay for! This was shocking to say. We had desert and that was also a very big let down. The only good thing was the Coffee that the guy that makes the coffee gave it to us and our waitress wasn’t hardly at the table. This is very shocking and won’t be back at all. Very sad as it looks like an amazing place and it’s not. I really don’t mind paying for a dinner where is will for 400 per person and the food in amazing! But this didn’t happen. Very sad.

Our waiter Kelvin was charming and within minutes of arriving our bottle of chilled Sauvignon Blanc was served and our orders taken. Both starters were fantastic and we both had the steak as a main which was very tender and cooked just as we wanted it. The dessert was just as good. The restaurant is an amazing conversion of an old Cape townhouse and the old black and photographs on the walls are worth a visit just on their own. A very pleasant experience eating off the Specials Menu for R195 each for 3 courses and the bill including tip was R620 for an excellent and oft to be repeated experience. A lovely lunch and thanks to our waiter Kelvin....

Had the most amazing food & decor experience at Kloof Street House. We sat outside in the garden and it was magical. There were enough heaters to ensure we were comfortable, although we picked a perfect evening weather-wise. The service was a little slow - but once we received our cocktails and food - definitely worth the wait. My only "concern" were the loos: only one cubicle operation for ladies - so there was a looooong wait and the strong urine smell made it very unpleasant.
Gwen Johnson
Quirky and unusual, excellent table overlooking the outside area. We had the cauliflower soup with Roquefort to start, rich, creamy and very tasty. Fairly large portions. This was followed by the lamb, not quite what I expected but very tasty. Service - attentive but not sure how they would cope if very full, it was a Saturday lunchtime and the restaurants was busy but not at capacity Excellent wine list and really enjoyable experience. Will return and happy to recommend based on our experience

Kloof Street House is eccentric and incentive in style and taste! We were recommended this by our airbnb host and wnded up coming back the next night! You feel like you're in a museum, with endless decorative details to study inside and outside. An upscale yet quirky dinner spot for many occasions. Highly recommend!

Super cool vibey spot with delicious food!
I visited Kloof street house expecting a low key venue to spend with friend on their birthday. From the street, it is easy to pass this place if you haven't heard of it before.

On nearing the entrance, the unique vibrant ambiance sets the scene for the wonders waiting inside. We were expecting a traditional set menu with courses, but were instead blown away by the fusion inspired menu with great portions. The food was on point and served to allow us to sample across the menu in its many delights. The seating area were on consisted of comfortable sofas with coffee tables as the food rests. Thanks for a great evening.

Perhaps potentially my preferred spot in all of Cape town, stylistic layout was out of this timeframe. Go there for dates with some unique, have the mixed drinks at the bar they're sublime. The outside garde concealed from the city and is a phenomenal setting for a gourmet supper.

Whilst visiting Cape Town, I went to KSH for dinner and wow oh wow what an amazing and gastronomic and pleasurable experience! Since arriving until the end. I can see why this place is so popular. Had Prosecco to start, seafood done to perfection and absolutely delicious! Ended off with the salted caramel cheesecake ... a must! The decor and ambiance of this restaurant is so funky and bohemian, colorful, warm and amazing. The service and staff exceptional and efficient.
Can’t wait to return.
Aurora Marcopoulos
Best dessert in Cape Town - salted caramel cheese cake with caramel popcorn. This is also one of my favorite dinner venues in Cape Town! So beautiful and also vibey. My favorite main is the salmon and I love the arancini and thick crispy fries.

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary and everything about this restaurant is just impeccable..The staff are all very friendlyThe setting is gorgeous and romantic Plus their food is just delish!Defs going there again soon.

Still, such a magical place, wonderful interior, and no better garden to have an evening drink. Unfortunately, we had to find a waiter to serve us drinks. The kitchen too was having an off day. The arancini were so dry, not enough sauce could have saved it, my Rib Eye had an overwhelming smokey flavour and the cheesecake was a fridge cake, not baked. Not sure if its just end of season blues. Was will clients so had to grin an bear it. Please don't let your standards slip any further.

Was extremely disappointed in the overall experience.

Started with getting told the place is fully booked (yet there were lots of empty tables) even before I could tell them I had a reservation.

Got completely ignored once seated ( the waiter GEOFF preferred to help everyone else around me) so I had to flag someone else to take my order. My "waiter" still ignored me even whe putting the steak knife on my table.

I ordered the Steak (med well) and the Squash as a side dish. The steak was undercooked and the fries were cold. The best thing at the table was the squash.

(Note- the table next to me also had Steak and the guy left 80% of it un touched because it was raw)

The food was so underrated that I didnt even bother to select a dessert.

A 2nd server attended me, until it came time to get the bill. She had to remind my waiter twice before he brought it. (He then stands around as if expecting a tip)

Ah, Kloof St..... you need to get your house in order.
Haven't been to a fine dining place better than this before. They are mostly on wait list hence please book before you go. I had ordered ostrich for myself, loved it. The staff was very professional and courteous.

Book in advance to get the table's outside.
Great service
Delicious fresh meals
The place is beautiful, trendy and such a good vibe.
I had the salmon and I'll definitely be back for that.

I dined here on my last day during a short visit to Cape Town. What a lovely venue with nice decor and cozy garden! Dynamic atmosphere and absolutely delicious dishes. Expect a huge crowd so better book in advance and be on time for your booking. Parking is a bit of a challenge, unless they allow you to park behind the restaurant.
Sarah Herrington
I had really high expectations of this place - while not all of them were met, I did still have a very enjoyable meal. We opted for the summer lunch special. For starters, we had the salmon gravlax and the calamari - both were delicious, and the calamari sauce in particular was spicy and flavorful. Our mains were slightly disappointing - the batter of the kingklip goujons was quite soggy, and I found the gnocchi a tad too rich. Dessert was by far the best course - absolutely loved the crème brûlée and ice cream! Would definitely come back just for that. The service was efficient and friendly, and I absolutely love the décor inside.

Completely underwhelming

Food: I had a burger (thinking that you can't really go wrong), little did I know how wrong I would be: tasteless stale bun, overcooked patty. One person at our table was so excited to order the quinoa moussaka, only to be told that the restaurant only had 10 portions... seriously? The risotto was crunchy, undercooked, and had a bitter aftertaste.

Ambience: Although it is a pretty good setting, the music was loud and not really conducive to dinnertime (almost felt like we were in some sort of dance club). And oh yes, the smokers... boggles my mind that a restaurant will let people smoke in an enclosed area - really offputting.

Service: It felt like we were cattle being herded around, made to sit and eat, and then leave. There was no warmth or hospitality - just business.

In the end, it was so average that we finished our mains and went elsewhere for dessert (not something that I would ever normally do). And to think that I booked this way in advance...
Tomasovicova.monika
Excellent food. Really surprising that it is not usual piece of food with chips and mayo, but really well thought menu. Good service. Nice ambiente - although it reminds me the posh style late nineties in New York, including the outfit of the waitresses 😀

Kloof street house is a total vibe however the food wasn’t all the great I had the vegan risotto it had no taste it was super bland the rice itself wasn’t cooked perhaps I was just unfortunate as they were busy.

I can't fault the food at all.
Everything is great from food, drinks, decor and staff.
Had the best ostrich fillet here. Also had the salmon and it was beautiful. Will always come back here

Good lunch spot in the summer-especially on the weekend. The main meals are well portioned and have great flavours.

I would recommend going on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. They usually have a live band too

I absolutely love this restaurant, the setting is absolutely beautiful during the day, food is delicious and they provide good service. Will definitely be back soon for more food and to see the setting in the evening. Recommended to all

I travel 6-8 times a year to Cape Town and have never had a good experience at Kloof street house
This evening we attempted it once more. I phoned around 19h30 to make a reservation and was told “we don’t take bookings during peak season” . We arrived there around 20h45 and were told by the hostess that you were fully booked and we could wait in the bar if we wanted but she suggested we try one or two restaurants down the road which will probably be better and easier to get into - wow you guys must be printing so much money that you just turn potential patrons away. Let me add that there were 2 empty tables outside.
The previous time we went to Kloof house we were told to expect shocking service as they were short of staff.... and wow was the service shocking or what !!! We waited one and a half hours for our sub standard food to arrive
Previously we were told that the restaurant cannot cope with the crowds so are not allowing any more tables - what a load of crap!!! Such bad management
Before that , soooo many items on the menu were unavailable as the restaurant had a shortage of stock
The amount of times we have been turned away is crazy, only God knows why we think it will improve the next time , but sadly not
There is NO management presence. Disgusting and unacceptable
Kloof street house has past its sell by date purely due to disgusting management. It needs to be replaced with a new establishment with a great operator !!!! Don’t waste your time going there
We will definitely not be going back!

Super lovely environment and food was great. Had the seafood pasta and the best porn star martini I’ve ever had. The service is a bit slow but waiters are super friendly and food didn’t take too long.
Definitely a must try gem in the city.

Amazing food and service. Excellent atmosphere. The most killer cocktails and tasteful decor. Highly recommend this place for a Sunday spoil or midday treat. Blown away by the food and drink menu. We had the summer lunch special which was great value for money!!

1. My husband and I went to Kloof Street House to celebrate our anniversary. I had made the booking 3 weeks in advance to ensure that we had a good spot. When we arrived the hostess had informed us that they had given our table to another couple earlier in the evening and they were not finished by the time we arrived. The restaurant was full and our alternative was to sit at a table for two which seemed squeezed in between a two seater on the one side and a 6 seater on the other side. I was bumped continuously as people walk past our table. We would expect a better experience in this regard since I confirmed twice on the day

2. During the day I called the restaurant enquiring about corkage for wine. They informed me that we could not bring our own wine, but that I should not be concerned because their wines are affordable. When we had a look at the menu (and being from Stellenbosch wine valley) the cheapest bottle of wine (which on average costs R80 in stores) was R250 - and this is the cheapest. I understand there is a mark-up, but being local we felt exploited. This is not my understanding of affordable.

3. We had the calamari starter which was great. It tasted delicious. This set expectations high for the main meal. We both ordered the rib-eye steak. I received a rib-eye but my husband received a sirloin steak. If we are to pay premium prices for the meals then we expect to receive the correct order.

In conclusion, the overall experience was disappointing. The ratings are high for Kloof Street House but we unfortunately did not experience it as such. We will probably not be back.

Honestly some of the best food I have eaten my entire life. Not so many vegetarian options, but anything they have is truly delicious. Prices are high but worth it. They also have a great drinks menu.

SETTING is absolutely stunning. A lot of thought put into it and definitely something different.
FOOD was tasteful however plating could have had a bit more thought-ostrich fillet portion was also really small. Dessert cheesecake was divine!!
SERVICE- was average our waiter was not attentive we constantly had to ask for him. What was also a MAJOR TURNOFF went to bathroom and staff getting ready for their shift had taken over whole bathroom completely... changing and washing their feet. I could not even get to the sink to wash my hands.

I regularly look for restaurants I have not heard of before and thankfully discovered this gem. A massive indoor/outdoor eating area with eclectic decor! We had a great evening with excellent service, great food and superb wine in a fantastic atmosphere. A blend of young and old, casual and less casual creating a buzz. And the food was pretty good too. The sauce on the starter chilli and garlic prawns was the best ever and the Harissa calamari was excellent. Our 4 main courses were the Osso Bucco, Roasted chicken, Lamb rack and rib eye steak. (Slightly different menu from on this site) All dishes were good, tasty and tender and well cooked. A really good find and worth returning to!

Cape Town is best known for its good food and wines. I love both so I believe the statement is true. I wanted to go somewhere I haven’t been and didn’t realize Capetonians go out on Tuesday nights (Joburg, you need to catch up 😁). This place is... I have no words. All I can say is I will definitely come back - for the good service, good food, value for money, interesting decor and close proximity to tourist locations

What an eclectic place. I’d recommend it for date night as the outside is covered in these hanging plants and fairy lights, so it’s romantic and fun. They have blankets and heaters for a cold night, and I found it was warm enough even in the middle of winter. I’d definitely recommend booking, especially if you’d like to go on the weekend. We had the gnocchi and an ostrich steak, with shared polenta chips. The chips just melt in your mouth. The flavour combination for the ostrich was so interesting but worked really beautifully together. I loved the gnocchi, which is decadent and flavoursome. I see they have a great lunch special for a 2 course meal- if you’re passing by during lunch I’d recommend stopping in and giving it a try :)!

Kloof Street House
Gardens - Cape Town

Saturday Lunch with a good friend. With a bit of chilli in the air, we were seated in a warm sunny spot surrounded by a collection of interesting rooms and spaces, each bursting with a character of its own and our waiter Bukhasa welcomed us and explained to us the Winter Special (2 courses for R170pp/3 courses for R195pp).

So with some bubbles ordered, we started with our Starters: My dish was the Pan-fried Patagonian calamari, aioli & harissa. Which was really tasty and the harissa was nice and spicy, A really good balance with the calamari. My friend had the Gorgonzola & wild mushroom arancini with aioli & napolitana. I had a bit and the arancini were perfectly cooked and really delicious.

Main course: My dish was the Beer battered kingklip goujons with rustic cut chips and mushy peas. Lovely fresh kingklip with the perfect beer batter served with fresh tartar sauce was perfectly prepared.
My friend had the Grilled Chalmar sirloin with rustic cut chips and bearnaise sauce and a pan of Seasonal Greens. Looked and smelled amazing. Loved the seasonal greens with the toasted coconut and almonds.

Then Dangerous Desserts (for the price you just can't miss out): Mine was the Sticky malva pudding served with vanilla ice cream, grilled pineapple and pistachio. Soft and juicy slice of malva and creamy ice cream was way too much for me but I still managed to finish it. My friend had the Vanilla creme brulee, homemade shortbread, orange ice cream and berry compote. Stunning creme brulee and the orange ice cream was delicious.

I would love to come back here for dinner and to experience the venue when it buzzing and live jazz is playing.

Well worth the experience. A definite must try. Kloof Street House’s Teeth rating:
Food: 8 "teeth" out of 10
Service and Staff: 8 "teeth" out of 10
Ambience: 9 "teeth" out of 10
Overall: 25 "teeth" out of 30.

I absolutely love Kloof Street House, so much so that I decided to book my birthday lunch there, 7 of us, on a Sunday Afternoon to enjoy the jazz. I booked via email specifying the date and received confirmation thereof via email and text, only to arrive and not have a reservation. Although the hostess got us a table, not even an apology was offered. Nonetheless I enjoyed the day, the jazz was superb and the ambience was fantastic as always. Sadly the food wasn’t on point as it usually is, and service a tad slow and I can only assume that’s due to the busyness of the day? However I will return and put this instance down to an “offish day”

excellent service... good and fast food delivery they have in their hands... this place has the best fried rice and chicken rolls..... best recommentation of mine
Mike Honiball
The food was average to good. However, the waiter, in front of my 3 guests, shamelessly (and loudly) asked for an additional 3% tip on a R2,000 bill, despite his slow and underwhelming service throughout the evening. I have never seen such openly tacky service from a waiter at this sort of restaurant and will never visit again. A restaurant that charges premioum prices, but hires waitstaff who cannot comprehend the basics of good service (the customer experience is everything), shouldn't deserve your patronage.
Lia CPT
Jazzy Sunday's. Beautiful food. The camembert starter is a favourite of ours to share. And we love the ostrich steak. Wash it all down with a good bottle of Pinotage while smooth jazz is playing in the background and you've got a perfect end to the weekend. Love KSH. Just love it.

The hidden gem in Cape Town. Cosy and comfortable for groups or close friends. Good service and excellent food. Definitely my two weekly dinner spot!
Joburg Lawyer
The decor, the old fashioned double volume pressed ceilings, comfy couches, cheers like bar and knowledgeable waiters and staff make this restaurant a “must go there” restaurant. It’s brilliant and the food is very good although the prices are on the steep side. Also it would be a mistake to pass on the decadent desserts.
Lesedi Ramonyane
It’s difficult for things to go wrong here. Great for lunch in the courtyard, dinner or late night drinks in the library. Dinner inside can get a bit noisy though with the music + guests combined but there is definitely a solid vibe. The prawns and arancini are my favourite starts while the Chalmar beef and gnocchi are my go-to for mains. You can never go wrong with a Chocolate fondant which is what I end the evening with usually. They also have a great wine list with some usual suspects but also quite a few gems that arent as common at other restuarants. The price point is also reasonable considering the service, food and the ambience.
Hangry In Dubai
Excellent all around. Tried several dishes but the standouts for me were the arancini and ostrich medallions (both were not photographed because they were not photogenic:))

Drinks were generous and service was quick and friendly even though the place was packed.

Definitely worth the visit!

Incredible ambience at Kloof Street House and the garden setup is lovely, the service isn’t too bad either.I opted for the Norwegian salmon, which was cooked to perfection and I also tried the gnocchi but didn’t enjoy it as much.
Great experience overall and would definitely visit again.
Edjane Ferreira
Pleasantly surprised. Vintage decoration with all the details. The staff is very welcoming.
We had the special winter menu ... delicious and for a good price (starters, main course and dessert). All dishes very well made.
The service was a little slow but it was not a problem for me.
I strongly recommend the restaurant.

Fantastic vibe, beautiful venue, awesome food and wine selection with impressive bar and great service. Without a doubt a must when visiting Cape Town.

OMG! Love this place. The is definitely a little gem. We started with drinks in their library area and then moved to a table outdoors. A very interesting menu. The food is delicious, and staff very professional and attentive. This was a perfect night out!

This restaurant's deco is beautiful and unique. I have tried their gnocchi - I cannot say I liked it but I suppose I made the wrong choice. It does tend to get rather loud in the evening time, so I would not recommend this place for making conversations.
Adam Hunter
Kloof street house makes a great evening out with friends and loved ones, especially special date nights. Be sure to book weeks in advance and try to take a table inside to avoid the smokers in the garden area (if you don’t like secondary smoke that is). My all time favorite is the salmon and for the best dessert ever, the chocolate fondant, amazing!

Food was lovely however the communication between kitchen and staff is below average- meal timing off- as one person received there food another had already finished there meal.
But best cheese cake I have ever tasted!!

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5
Ambiance: 5/5
I have been here 5 or 6 times and every time I have had time of my life. I have however had an encounter with a hostess ( I forgot her name, but remember her face) who was (is) rude and not professional.
I have tried a few dishes on their menu and was never disappointed: Slow roasted lamb shoulder and I would give it a 8/10 well cooked with balanced flavours. Osso Buco ( 9/10 ), my all time favourite, a soulful and fulfilling dish. Ostrich fillet ( 10/10), soft and delightful. From their summer lunch special menu, I enjoyed the pan fried Patagonian calamari (8/10) for a starter and for mains I had their blackened tuna ( 6/10). I thoroughly enjoy their Sunday live jazz. Drinks menu is varied.
This is a venue for every occasion, a spectacular lunch venue with a beautiful garden that transcends into a dreamy dinner spot. it is enigmatic yet intimate. it has character and is my spot of choice. I love it here and hope you would too...
Supervundu
Surprisingly affordable when you compare to others in the same league. Service was a little hit and miss - not the wait staff or management, but the more blasé approach from the hostesses was a little unbecoming.

That aside, the decor and atmosphere is great. The place was packed packed packed on a Wednesday night.

The food. Yum. Shared the burrata (special) and the arancini. My rib eye steak with bernaise was one of the best I'd ever had as my wife destroyed her osso buco. For afters we shared the salted-caramel cheesecake with popcorn ice cream - it's enough for four people.

Great experience. Would love to go back.

After seeing all of the raving reviews, I was disappointed when I visited. The garden setting is pretty, but unfortunately we were not served until we had managed to stop one of the waiters, 20 minutes after arriving. I ordered a hot chocolate and was disappointed that it was the sweet, powdered version- not authentic cocoa powder, or hot running chocolate that one may expect from a high-end restaurant. Waiters were not ready with change when we tried to pay using cash. Our table enjoyed the food and the manager was great, but I unfortunately wouldn't return.

My experience at Kloof street house was great!
the service was good. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The ambiance of the restaurant was relaxing and you feel like you at home eating in a beautiful garden.
The food was good. Great flavours, rustic and easy type of plating.
My friend and I left feeling relaxed and satisfied.
Really enjoyed ourselves! Can't wait to go back.

Kloof Street House was certainly one of the more trendy places that we went to whilst in Cape Town. As you walk in they have a terrace with mix and match furniture where people can have a drink and as you walk through the restaurant the eclectic and quirky theme continues. The restaurant has a buzz to it with the sound of laughter, conversations and the whoosh of waiters rushing up and down the restaurant. It was fun!
Amit Govind
Victorian styles gem of a restaurant that is styled in arty vintage decor with a quint garden feature. The Menu is a well thought-out eclectic choices which would fancy anyone’s palette.

Tried the veg platter option for starters made up of fresh veggies, humus and bread slices. For mains went for their ostrich portion which was a delectable lunch as everything was purposefully conjured up in this dish. For Desert tried their caramel coated popcorn, ice cream and cheese cake ensemble. Sounds and tasted delicious after a much deserved sweet indulgence post Cape Town Cycle Tour.

A really nice spot which I’m hoping to visit again!!
Gabriella
Coming back here years later & still just as impressed as my first visit here! Opted for the 2 course lunch special which is definitely well worth it at only R170 (there is a R195 offer for 3 courses). I had the Caesar salad starter & my boyfriend had the Calamari starter - both were so delicious we ended up sharing. Then for mains we both had the Tuna which was just as delicious (secretly happy we both got the same cause I wasn’t sharing - it was that good). Stunning day out celebrating a belated Valentine’s Day together - thank you Kloof Street House!

Great in the day or evening, even a Sunday afternoon while there is a live jazz performance 🎷

Excellent for a sultry evening dinner with your significant other.

The food is good and has a wide variety for all dietary preferences. They’re always willing to change things up for your specific taste where possible. While not vegetarian we love their artichoke loaf which you must try when there next 🤤❤️

secret garden-esque surroundings placed around a historical building converted into this gem. The venue is neatly tucked away in the hustle and bustle of Kloof Street🚙🚕🚗 but once inside the venue, you hear nothing at all!

We LOVE that the kitchen stays open until 11pm (that’s rare in lazy and laid back Cape Town🏝).

TIP: ALWAYS make a booking though sometimes it's almost futile on a busy night (even if you arrived on time for your reservation)... ☎️

the quality of service depends on how busy they are unfortunately... and sometimes it appears the staff are overwhelmed and panic-struck by the sheer numbers of people with and without reservations - once you're seated however, it feels like the calm after the storm

generally the staff are okay and can be helpful if you’re well mannered (which you must always be, of course) 😊

A great selection and ambiance. There is an amazing selection of drinks and the constantly changing menu means that you can always find something new and delicious to eat. Great for dates if your budget is right.

For my birthday my girlfriend decided to take me out for lunch somewhere we had both never been, Kloof Street House (which ironically even though I work up the road from it, I had never actually been inside).

Immediately I fell in love with the shabby-chic decor and feel of the place. There was a warm friendly atmosphere right from the offset and you have your choice of seating in either the beautiful front garden area or the interior (which is tastefully filled but not at all gaudy).

Service was very helpful and friendly, albeit slightly slow. Nonetheless we had our drinks, a passion fruit cocktail for her and a craft beer for me, both of which were delicious, though personally I would have added slightly less syrup to the cocktail as I felt it was rather sweet.

For our food, we had the lunch time 2 course meal, starting off with a broccoli, parmesan and crouton salad. This was delicious and I just loved the dressing, though in future perhaps ask if guests want the dressing separate, as whilst I am not, alot of Cape townians are somewhat fussy about that kind of thing.

For mains, my girlfriend had the sliders (A. MAZING) and I had the rib eye steak. Both were cooked to perfection and don't be fooled by what looks like small portions, the food is filling and loaded with flavour.

All in all, a birthday meal very well spent. And I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, food and experience of the place as a whole and definitely a must see for anyone travelling through upper CBD

Very pretty setting. Little stuffy inside. Book in advance to try an get a table outside. Tables are close together (especially the smaller tables) so forget about private conversations. Food was good. Nothing special though - I had the lamb... Meh. My partner had the a steak. Probably won't be back.

Last year, I would have never believed such low rating given to Kloof street house, never mind giving it myself. Yet, our last visit wasn't just disappointing, it was embarrassing.

Our friends were coming to Cape Town from France over the Christmas holiday and asked us to book a good restaurant for all of us to celebrate New Year's eve.
Having known KSH for a while, we made a reservation there. Important to note that the price per person was 130 euro for a 5 course menu. This is equivalent to a tasting menu in a 2* Michelin restaurant almost anywhere in Europe.

Well, KSH did not deliver anything faintly close to Michelin. Moreover, we may have as well gone to mcdonalds.
The alarm bells should have started ringing when the appetiser arrived: 3 fishcakes, 3 wraps and 3 tomato skewers for a table of 4. Never mind the math, the quality made us think that the appetisers came directly from the Spar next door.
While we were still waiting for our friends, the waitress arrived, put 4 complementary glasses of sparkling wine on the table and disappeared. You can easily imagine that the sparkle in the wine was long gone 10 min later when our friends came in.
Getting any attention from staff was like speaking sign language with the blind.
We came at 8.30; 30 min before midnight we received our main course. I wish it hasn't been delivered to us at all to avoid the embarrassment in front of my friend who ordered lamb. She searched and searched for a single piece of meat on her plate and all she could discover was 300g of fat. The sight was so pathetic and disgusting that she just covered her plate with a napkin for the sake of other guests.

We then asked for a bottle of champagne to toast the approaching midnight. At about 12.20 I had to go and search for anyone to bring us our drinks. The last 2 dishes of the 5 course menu were also happily forgotten about by the staff.

Of course, after my multiple complaints everything arrived at once - deserts, all drinks that were missing throughout the night, cheese platter from the menu - consisting yet again of 3 pieces of cheese. All in all, pathetic, pathetic. I don't even want to go deeper into the quality of deserts. All food was just unacceptable for the price that was charged.

In summary, dear management of KSH, if you want to charge the prices you did on NYE, please make sure you deliver. Asking your customers to pay 130 euro per person, be it NYE or not, you put yourself into the range of internationally acclaimed restaurants. You are not. Moreover, our last experience showed that you have fallen even further behind.
I am deeply saddened and feel embarrassed that this is what we offered our friends as their first Cape Town food experience.

With best regards
Irina Brouwer

Great place. Even better food. Had a lovely waitress named Megan or recommended great food. Also had lovely live jazz music for an awesome Sunday afternoon!!!

A must visit on every Cape Town trip! The setting is incredibly cool and laid back with the attractive staff making the experience even sweeter. The menu is small and the food excellent. Their desserts are out of this world. Service is friendly and efficient.

Kloof street house is definitely one of the best spots for an intimate dinner date. The decor is very vintage and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. We had the gorgonzola and wild mushroom arancini which was absolutely divine! We had the butter chicken and the king clip for main. The mains were flavourful and elegantly presented. We then shared a delicious crème brûlée with a shortbread and berry compote. This is absolutely a must for all the foodies in Cape Town. We can’t wait to go there again!

Food: 4/5
Service: 5/5
Ambiance: 5/5

This place is an amazing place with great service, if you want a nice hangout with friends with a great atmosphere go there and sit outside.
Very nice ambience and decor. The service is excellent and the people are friendly. The food was good, but could have been better if the chef paid a bit more attention to detail. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Cape Town.

Nice ambience and decor.Below average food. Long waiting time for food, more than an hour. Alchohol is overpriced...........................

This place has a nice ambiance and is great for hosting events. The service was friendly and the decor nice. I found the food to be slightly wanting which takes away from my rating. The highlight of everything I tasted was oil and it tasted as if everything was cooked in the same oil e.g. fries that taste like meat or, as some fellow diners experienced, fish that tastes like meat. This is a rookie error that I wouldn't expect from a place that classifies itself as fine dining.

Aside from being a little bit heavy on the pocket this is a really great experience! From the porn star martini to the salted caramel cheesecake! The lamb done to perfection and fish dish also amazing! Quite romantic, upmarket, vibey great for couples or friends having drinks!

Have a bottle of crisp white wine on a balmy Summer night on the outside patio, under the fairy lights. Menu changes often, but dependably good food. Good locale for a date!

Best setting. It's definitely a gem in cape town. Very good service and such amazing food. My boyfriend had the salmon but I would highly recommend the lamb shoulder. So much food, could not even finish it. Pudding and starters was also delicious!

Went to Kloof Street House with my family and we had an amazing time!

We were seated promptly and attended to shortly afterwards. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and provided excellent recommendations.

The food was tasty and the ambience just right.
I'll definitely be headed back for more!
I've been dying to visit Kloof Street house as I've heard a lot about it from mates and it has a great Zomato rating. Decided to pop in on a warm Saturday afternoon.

Vibe/ atmosphere- I enjoyed the scenery and the decor, photos don't do it justice. It's really beautiful. The vibe that afternoon was very mature. Families with kids and some elderly folk. Definitely the youngest there, I'm 22. So if you're looking for a calm, quiet vibe this is definitely the spot. Super cute and perfect for a date night! Would advise to go during the day or late afternoon to maximize this photo op.

Cleanliness - I was slightly disappointed by the attention to detail in terms of cleanliness. I found a mysterious little something floating in my water and the menus and tables were still dirty and sticky from previous patrons.

Service- Acceptable. I Was not spectacular wowed. The Waitress gave the bare minimum effort. Not offensive at all but also not impressive. Positively though, everything we ordered came in a timely fashion.

Food/Drink- I did not eat in this particular day. I did however indulge in a few of their cocktails, namely the 'Soul Happiness', 'Camissa' and the 'Raffle's Singapore Sling'. All were amazingly delicious. Some of the best cocktails I've ever had!!! My personal favorite is the 'Soul Happiness', very refreshing and tasty passion fruit drink. Loved it.

Overall the positives definitely outweigh the negatives, I had a look at their menu and will certainly be returning for some food.

Beautiful lighting and decoration, lovely garden for outside seatings on a non-rainy day! Food is very delicious and creative. Unfortunately cocktails are below average as well as the creme brûlée which is firm like baked cheese cake😂. Don’t recommend. Chocolate fondant taste great but don’t expect the chocolate pouring out from the centre as is a firmed cake again.
Sameera Kaddoura
By far one of favorites! Every time we visit Cape Town this a MUST! The ambience is great, friendly staff and satisfying food. Personally the lamb is my favorite, and the salted caramel cheesecake is to die for.

Today I went my friend to this restaurant. The food was good not bad just expensive but I had a different problem.the waiter was hitting on my girl Lol. WTH.
I didn't like at all and i really was pissed didn't want to punch him on his face and let it go but honestly wasn't nice at all. I didn't pay 700 rands to get pissed.
His name is Daniel I dunno what up.!!

I love coming here on Friday evenings. Decor is amazing with a Victorian home feel. Service is great with friendly waiters. Great vibe and relaxed atmosphere. Food is also really good and great care is taken in its unique presentation. One of my favorite spots.

Needed to find a good spot for an anniversary lunch and after some searching Kloof Street House seemed to be the winner...with good reason! The decor and design of the place was really impressive! It's located in a Victorian style "House" with dim lighting and really comfortable seating areas giving off a relaxed "homey" vibe to the place.

We visited during their Winter Lunch Special (R160pp for 2 course or R195pp for 3 course) so we opted for a starter and a main. We decided to go with the Pan fried calamari as a starter and the Beef slider board and Chimichurri Ribeye for mains. All 3 were really tasty! The Calamari had a really great seasoning sprinkled over it and the beef sliders had good combinations of the different fillings.

The service started off well with our first waiter being very friendly and recommending a few cocktails. Our second waiter however, was not the friendliest and service towards us changed after we decided not to order drinks and opted for just water with lemon.

Overall though, besides the service, it's a really great spot hidden on Kloof street! Great food, amazing atmosphere and perfect for a romantic lunch or dinner. Definitely recommend a visit!

- with Daniel Frier

This place took my breath away. As soon as I walked in I felt at home, such a warm and welcoming place, just like walking into a friend's home with awesome decor and a kick-ass bar. The service was excellent and the staff are so friendly and to top it all off the food was just sensational at a price that won't leave your wallet drained.

Just everything has left me wanting more and best believe I'll be back for more.

Thank you Kloof Street House for such a wonderful experience, I left a very happy person.

Everything about this place is AMAZING. The food😍, the cute waiters😍, the amazing aesthetic 😍.

I was in love from the first time I stepped in. Decided to have the 3 meal option and I left so full I needed to get take-away (which hardly happens).

The wifi is a major let down, but the place and feel are so amazing that you forget about it completely.

I cannot believe it took me so long to visit Kloof Street House. Getting a table was the hardest. I called in to book a table about 4hrs before and they were fully booked. Decided we'll sit at the bar but magically a table opened up before we were seated. I suggest you book a day in advance inorder to get a nice table. The waiters were very warm and friendly. The decor is to die for.

When it comes to food any place that serves cauliflower mash/pureè gets a bonus point from me. Another thing that stood out was the spinach.

I will go back on a sunny Sunday and enjoy the sun outside

I was very lucky to attend an event hosted at Kloof Street House and got to taste a huge selection of their menu (for free!). The food is beyond amazing and delicious!! I personally adored their fresh, grilled calamari and their risotto balls.

The location is beyond gorgeous both decoratively and in set up. It has a sophisticated, yet rustic feel that really transports you to another place!

I highly recommend to all.

Had heard good reviews about this place and decided to make a dinner reservation. The booking was confirmed on WhatsApp on the day but our names were surprisingly not on the booking list on arrival. We then had to wait at the bar for availability of a table. The manager was so apologetic and fast tracked us to a table. The rest of the evening went on smoothly though. I had the slow roasted lamb shoulder with flatbread whilst my partner had the ostrich fillet butternut purée meal. The servings were just enough. The setting was romantic. Definitely a place we'd go back to. Parking is a bit difficult to find, we managed to park at the Mc Donald's down the road.

Never ever ever ever seems to disappoint my taste buds nor my drinking buds which are many 😂.... it's actually insane !! Beautiful decor and atmosphere the best little gem Cape Town has to offer on any occasion by far... thanks KSH!! 🙏🏻

Update: it’s taken me many months to return to this fine establishment, but boy am I glad I did. This time around, seated outside on a very lovely evening, I ordered the ostrich steak with butternut purée. Yum!! The dish was sublime and service impeccable. I was attentively looked after and food served in under 10min! Amazing! Sad that I didn’t have room for dessert. I guess this is a good reason to come back soon. Can’t wait!

Review 1: I love the ambience of this place, the presentation of the food and the service. I had the lamb and unfortunately the flavors were not too well balanced. The dish itself was very rich and served lukewarm... the rest of my table however was raving about their food. My friend had the steak and my other friend opted for two seafood starters. Will definitely return to taste what all the fuss was about.

What a cool, quirky, classy place. I loved the vibe and the eccentricity, coupled with great service and beautifully presented food. The cocktails were delicious and the food was pretty tasty, although on the vegetarian option the portion could have been slightly more generous. Definitely a place I'll visit again!

Heaving, busy, vibey! Communication from booking to seating excellent. They go out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. Food was fabulous. Sharp and too the point menu.

I've been to Kloof Street House twice and I've been very impressed both times.

It makes for a perfect place to celebrate, as although the menu is simple, there's always something for everyone.

It's beautifully decorated and always full, so the ambiance is fantastic. The prices aren't bad for the quality of food that you get.

I'd definitely recommend this restaurant.

This place is so busy, that you have to wait long even for waiter to bring a menu. When you are ready to order, you are sitting long again trying to catch the waiter. Even if you tell him you are ready to order, he will not come soon. Food is good, when you finally got it.

Absolutely loved it.

Really nice atmosphere and great menu to go with it.

Food was pretty well prepared and the staff very friendly. Really nice tables outside when the weather plays along.

A romantic spot for a date. Don't expect it to be a quiet resturant though as it was full of people and bustling with conversations on a Monday evening. The menu is limited, but the food is delicious and the presentation is top notch - we had the ostrich and kingklip. The service was friendly, but never recieved our water that we ordered.

Had a fantastic dinner with friends last night. The service was good, the food was great, the atmosphere was relaxed. Perfect Saturday night dinner spot for a cold Winter's evening. The restaurant was warm and cosy.

We've only had drinks here and would highly recommend it to anyone who'd like to sit in a beautiful fairytale like garden. Very whimsical and elegant. They have a good wine selection with normal prices, not low not high but sort of mid range.

We're coming back for your vegetarian mains soon!

[update] we loved your cocktails too! But your service was sub standard. we waited ages to be served and a few more ages before receiving our drinks. Our actual waitress was very friendly and fun but she was just very slow, seems like you may be a little understaffed.
Francis
The garden is the perfect spot in summer to enjoy a drink. The interior design is really warm and comfortable. Food is good and there is a nice selection of drinks

What a vibey place! Love the decor - inside and outside. The food was delicious. I had the Patagonian calamari, which was the perfect size for a starter, without feeling skimpy. Main was the osso bucco. First time having it, so didn't know what to expect. The meat was absolutely wonderful - tender and flavoursome - but I don't know if it's a dish traditionally served with mashed potatoes? If it is, fine, but if it's not, I think a different side would've done the dish more justice. Polenta, for example, flavoured with Parmesan maybe?
The hero of the day was the cheesecake. I have not tasted a better cheesecake in Cape Town, and every cheesecake after has been a disappointment. Masterful!

Best place to have an anniversary dinner for sure. The barmen were top notch and so accommodating. The cocktails were sublime! Highly recommend the "soul happiness" if you like passion fruit. The food was world class and came quick out the kitchen. The gorgonzola and mushroom starter - 10/10. We had the ostrich fillet and gnocchi for mains. For dessert we ordered the chocolate fondant and cheese plate. The fondant was absolutely magical and the cheese plate for one was more than enough for two of us! The restaurant is so chic and the detailed interior makes the experience even more unique. However, the service was subpar as the hostess and waitress were incredibly cold, it seemed as if they wanted us in and out as quickly as possible. None the less, it was a great dining experience!

Managed to get a last minute reservation when in town on business. I can see why this place is so popular. The outdoor setup is pretty neat. It's almost as though you enter wonderland once you walk through the gates. We had a table outside with heaters to keep us comfortable on a chilly evening. Our waiter was great, friendly and quite chirpy as it seems to be with all working here which adds positively to atmosphere. The bread appetizer was amazing. You don't often get bread that delicious at a restaurant and makes for a great start for what's to follow. The mussel starter covered in pastry was absolutely divine. Had the bouillabasse (hope that's correct) for mains and could not be more thankful for the waiters recommendations. Had the KSH salad while we waited for mains as well which shows the class of the place with fresh high quality ingredients. Unfortunately that left no place for desert. Made for a great evening dinner.
Kloof Street House is a beautiful little place hidden in the hustle and bustle of the busy Kloof Street.

While it may look like an ordinary restaurant on the outside , once you step in you feel as though you have been transported to a secret magical garden.

The fairy lights and the lush greenery makes for the perfect urban escape. The restaurant decor is sultry and Victorian old school with a touch of Bohemian chic .

While the restaurant does not really cater for vegetarians , I had the potato gnocchi with roasted butternut , gorgonzola cream and toasted walnuts which was absolutely divine and left my taste buds tantalizing paired with a glass of Pinot Noir we ended off the meal with a dark chocolate fondant and marshmallow ice cream dessert.

We left this place with a tummy full of happiness 😊🍷
Made a very last minute decision to pop into this place for a coffee! We were greeted warmly and looked after even though they were fully booked! There was live jazz which set a very relaxed mood.

*update*
I came here for the summer lunch 3 course special and had my socks knocked off! Absolutely delicious, every course! I had the calamari for starters, the best I’ve had, ribeye steak and chips for main and the mango sorbet for dessert! Everything was 5 stars! We had cocktails as well which were great! Setting is spectacular we lounged on the couches for ages after we ate relaxing! Service was slow though, and the waitress was forgetful!

Even though we just had a cup of coffee, I have to give it 5/5! They were fully booked but they were still able to accommodate us, we sat outside on two chairs by the path, the waiters are very good! Friendly and welcoming! Absolutely love the vibe and the decor of this place! The live jazz just tops it off! Loved every moment.
Can't wait to go back and bring my friends and family and have a feast!
