South Africa is known for braai and meat particularly. One of the things I longed for but never had the opportunity to during the safari trip to Kenya and Tanzania in 2013 was trying game meats. They just weren't offered at the places we went. There's a few places offering such things in Cape Town - Arnold's, Mama Africa, Karibu, Mama Africa, Gold, Marco's seem to be the names I found online.
I always enjoyed Arnold's, chilled vibe, friendly staff and reasonable prices, the eggs benedict is a favourite, i was abit disappointed when i saw little pepper grinders on the tables instead of their larger than life one
Breakfast institution - consistant and always get what you expect. Great food, great service, and a lovely smoking area. Never dissapoints!
I had the croissant with scrambled eggs and spicey mince, which was perfect. My partner had the banting breakfast, with smoked salmon, which he loved. *4
I have been coming to Arnold’s for their before 7am breakfast special for years. It’s such a bargain - we paid R90 for 2 breakfasts and 2 coffees.
The deal comes with 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, 2 ostrich or pork mini sausages, slice of tomato and 2 slices of toast (either brown or rye). The veggie option (which I had this morning) replaces the meat with mushrooms and fries. The fries used to be sautéed potatoes, so I’m a bit sad that they now give fries instead.
It’s still an amazing breakfast, at a steal of a price, with the friendliest waitrons in town and awesome views of the mountain.
every one is so nice here and there is real value for money!
Love Arnold's!
Food is always delicious!
What I have had here: breakfast, burgers
3 words to describe the place: vibey, eccentric, delicious
Recommendation: breky
Rating: AWESOME

Food was lovely. Love the concept of an all day breakfast. However, your Mike's breakfast is far less food than the Chef's breakfast and it is priced higher. Makes zero sense.
I have been wanting to try out Arnold’s for a while. Decided to pop in for lunch and see what it was all about. Before coming in I had a look at the menu and was immediately drawn to the fudge Picasso because there are so few places that stock this awesomeness! I planned on having the basket and a slice of wonder afterwards. To my disappointment big items don’t exist on the menu. Update your menu on the app.
Ended up having a Strawberry milkshake which was good with real strawberries, the chocolate one is equally as good.
I opted for the stuffed burger as a main meal. The presentation of the burger is impressive. A few things I would suggest is having honey glazed crispy bacon considering how crisp the bacon is served. The actual meat in the burger needs a bit more seasoning - without the cheese and the jalapeños the patty is bland.
Calamari tentacle special - flour not seasoned so it tastes very one note - missed opportunity to create something unique flavor wise here. Tatar sauce was to thick to be a sauce and could be confused as a mini coleslaw.
I do feel like the place needs a bit of an update decor wise considering the trendy vibes that are happening along Kloof Street
A homegrown brand - Arnold’s is very popular! The locality with table Mountain View brings exclusivity to the place. The ostrich sausages are delicious and juicy and their big breakfast is enough for two. The shirt stack pancakes with golden syrup is to die for! Super fluffy and delicious! I loved their service and the hidden gem is a must visit for anybody going to Cape Town!
African Delight
Not the traditional style of African cuisine, however the contempory twist works. My starter of West Coast muscles was delicious, one of the nicest I have tasted in awhile. The Linefish main to be honest was not that great. A bland piece of perfectly cooked fish is all it is. Dont think I went for the right option and would like to try something else on the menu another time.
We really enjoyed our meal here. It was clean, the music was pleasant and the service was above average. We had an ostrich burger which was well presented and felt healthy and fresh. I'd have it again and the chips were delish.
Went on a spontaneous mission to Arnold's the other day as I felt like Eggs Benedict cos I'm new on that scene, and oh my hat! Did not disappoint at all. Will definitely be back to have it again. Thank you 😊
Decided to try out Arnold's for breakfast today! I had the Mike's breakfast and was a little bit underwhelmed by the presentation! The poached eggs were a bit watery, but other than that it was nice! I love the casual and relaxed vibe here and our waitress was very helpful! Will definitely come back and give this place another try😁
Me and my sister tried out Arnold's breakfast today, was a bit disappointed with the portion size of mikes breakfast but was an enjoyable meal! I had the flapjack stack that was very tasty and a good balance of banana and bacon!
The staff are very friendly and welcoming, cool vibe and decor. Definitely a place to try out!
It is a good place I love it. I been there many times and everytime it is great. The manager is always there and available. I go there have coffee at the morning peacefully and happy.
Ostrich steak and the vegetables were delicious, service was super quick and our waiter was very polite and friendly. A nice homely ambiance.
Tried Arnold's this past week for breakfast. Pretty average experience, was definitely expecting a bit more. Overall things were okay but I felt like portions were small. Service was good and vibe was decent.
I had breakfast at Arnold's recently and the first things that I noticed when we looked at the menu is that it very reasonably priced. The ambience is warm and welcoming, the service was friendly. They have a nice menu with a variety of options.
The coffee was good. I had scrambled eggs on an English muffin with a basil pesto - it was enjoyable but they didn't put much pesto on it. My friend had a spinach eggs Benedict which he loved!
Overall, a great spot to have breakfast at in Gardens. It's very easy to walk past because it doesn't have modern flashy signage, but definitely worth a try.
Arnolds is quite a household name amongst Cape Tonians, as it's been around for a while. Waiters are friendly and accommodating but service was slightly slow. I opted for a single Mike's breakfast, the standard eggs and bacon and a cappuccino. Food took slightly long to arrive but tasted great. Ask your waiter for some pepper...they will arrive with a GIANT peppercorn cracker...it's quite amusing. Other than that, I feel like the interior needs abit of updating, just to keep up with the new, upcoming restaurants along Kloof Street.
Delicious food. Super friendly, efficient staff. Breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner. This place never disappoints. A real Cape Town institution.
Don't have much into say about the setting or the service per se. It's up Kloof.
But I'm really really chuffed at this breakfast.
It's great value for money
I had the French toast with a side order of perfectly scrambled eggs and it was so satisfying. My company had the Pancake stack and was equally pleased.
Try them for a good breakfast.
Breakfast at Arnold's kloof street was amazing, we settle for a 3egg omelette with your regular toppings and the chefs breakfast. The food was great and their service was good, probably one of the best breakfast I've had in a while. I will definitely be back here soon!!!
Had a 3hr break between lectures so I decided to get some work done on my laptop in town & Arnold's was the prime spot for exactly that (Shoutout to the Zomato mobile office collection).
There's a gorgeous mountain view if you sit outside close to the sidewalk.
My cappuccino was great - served at the right temperature with the perfect ratio of micro-textured milk to milk froth. They also have a great cake special - R45 for a slice of cake and a cappuccino.
Will definitely come back to try some of their food.
Arnold's gives you the impression that everyone there has been there many times and have become regulars. The breakfasts are nice and simple. They are delicious, you get exactly what you're expecting to get.
I went by Arnold 's on an early Saturday morning with my partner. It seemed rather busy so make a reservation if you can to avoid disappointment.
The menu is packed for choice. I had the Chefs special and it was yummy! Also very very well priced. I loved the service here too.
Overall very lovely place that I'd go back to anytime!
Great breakfasts, especially if you had a rough night the night before and the service is always great! Can get quite busy on the weekends but well worth the wait.
My regular favourite watering hole when I still stayed in CT and what a pleasant surprise to see most of the old faces again. Hugs and handshakes all round with still the same wonderful buzzy cosmopolitan crowd and regulars from various corners of the world swopping stories and travel tips from the locals etc. Perfect when you're on a budget so my reunion was over happy hour(s) with great prices for drinks as well as a good old fashion carb-unfriedly toasted cheese and tomato!
Love the breakfasts at Arnolds and it's great for some beers with friends, it looks neat and clean, the breakfasts are well priced and the staff hive great service not a big fan of their burgers.
Arnolds is a great breakfast spot in Cape Town. Their eggs benedict is awesome and full of flavour. I've never tried any of the other meals but they all look tasty.
We popped in at this eaterie well-known for its double-up breakfast (that's right: 4 eggs!) but opted for their Eggs Florentine and my partner had the standard English version. The service was quick, the food tasty and a hearty portion. The atmosphere is intimate (if conversation at your table is lacking, you can easily eavesdrop on other more interesting discussions about family politics or you could just read the newspaper and sip your cuppacino) and the decor unpretentious. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't claim our Entertainer 2for1 benefit, but then we should've asked the waitress when placing our order. Even so, it was still a good deal and we'll make sure to return.
Went to Arnold's a little while ago and went for their early bird breakfast specials. My friend and I got there just before 7am and we had a lovely breakfast and coffee while watching the sun come up outside. Service was good too!!
Located opposite the Mount Nelson Hotel, they have an outdoor seating area as well as a dining area inside. Here you will find almost the full spectrum of the city with intriguing people popping in for a cup of coffee or a bite to eat. It has a very laid-back, hip but vibey atmosphere.
There are some interesting items on their menu such as crocodile ribs, warthog ribs and other game dishes. My order of the day was a fillet steak on a bed of mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms, topped with feta, rocket, sundried tomato and basil pesto. The fillet steak was tender and juicy with fresh ingredients complimented the steak.
Prices are within reason. Food is tasty and generous. Staff is friendly and efficient. For sure worth the visit.
Arnold's is one of those places where you can go, enjoy a meal and chill with friends. We decided to go has it was Saturday brunch and we had an Entertainer voucher.
When we arrived the place was 3/4 full. We enquired about the voucher and where told it was for lunch and dinner dishes but they wet happy to give us a lunch menu.
I had the burger and my partner had the steak. Both were cooked well and to our liking.
The decor is a true indication of the age of resturant and has the homey touch to it.
Service is good, friendly, professional but you can tell the staff know what they need to do.
A good experience had by all.
What a delightful place. The breakfast was well priced and we could not complain about anything. The bacon was crispy, eggs was just as we wanted it. Would highly recommend Arnolds.
Free wifi..Good Food...R20 before 7 breakfast special. ..loyalty card available. Will definitely recommend this place to others..open before actual opening hours.
Great for breakfast. Fast and unpretentious. Wonderful waiting staff. Free range eggs. No soya milk. Solid with good food. Great spot for watching Kloof Street walk by.
We went there for tasting the famous special dish and our expectations were satisfied. we had the "4 game" dish and all the choice were very good! the staff is also very friendly. we suggest to go there and taste this restaurant. also the creme brulee!
Amazing restaurant! It has such an unpretentious and good vibe about it. We sat outside and the waiter who served us was fun and definitely added to the atmosphere. I would recommend Arnold's to anyone who loves meat.
Not a bad spot for breakfast, the food was decent and good portions size, though the service was a bit slow due to the restaurant being so busy.
Nothing to really rant and rave about when it comes to the food, however If you want a great vibe and good social environment, this is the place to go.
Why would you tell people that this is a restaurant? This is a bar with an unusually extensive snack menu. Everything about this screams a place where you drink and smoke with friends. I scream that, and then I get asked to leave. And I do. But only once they admit they're a quite-good bar, instead of a mediocre restaurant.
Arnold's is easily in my top 5 places to eat breakfast in Cape Town!
Great food at very decent prices and the service is always really good and their coffee is delicious.
My favourite breakfast here is (and probably always will be) the croissant with Brie, bacon and peppadews.
Had a great breakfast, excellent poached eggs and very good value for money! Had very poor service but the breakfast was yumm which made up for it...
The service was terribly slow and inefficient but fortunately their food really made up for it. Had a breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed the modest setting and user-friendly menu. If you're an impatient person, this place isn't for you. If you're on holiday and looking for a well priced breakfast and don't mind waiting, then I really recommend Arnold's.
The food is brilliant and the service is great. We ordered sirloin steak and chicken burgers. The waiter, Eddie (see photo attached) was very professional.
I can recommend Arnolds anyday.
We will definitely be paying Arnolds a visit again.
Super early morning breakfast special - ridiculously welk-priced, good spot for coffee and efficient service. A popular spot for locals. Open from before 7 a m, which was excefor us early birds.
We had supper here on a Friday night. We had the warthog ribs and the calamari steak with linefish. Both portions we're sufficient and well cooked. The ribs were good and came with wedges and vegetables. The only weird thing is that the fish comes with couscous which didn't really complement it. I would have preferred a bigger portion of the vegetables, which were very good.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Arnolds, what can I say besides how great it is! I am there nearly every weekend, or at least wish I could be.
Their chef's special is such a winner, R55 for a plate of egg, bacon, tomato, wedges, ostrich sausage, baked beans and a tower of toast. But there's more, you get a cappuccino, juice or bucks fizz (if feeling ready for that in the morning) included.
The only thing i can say, is the food comes out so quickly, sometimes before our drinks even (is this even really a complaint!)
They also have an awesome daily early bird breakfast option if you get there before 7am.
Do yourself a favour and visit this Kloof Street gem
Arnolds is my nr.1 place to go to for breakfast in Cape Town. I've been there numerous times and never had any problems. There's no excessive waiting on food or drinks, their staff is friendly and helpful. Their breakfast is delicious and very cheap.
On my last visit, the waiter made some mistakes on our order and I was amazed at how quickly they recovered and how staff worked together to make it right, despite the fact that they were particularly busy. I never got to thank them properly, so here am I doing it. Thanks, guys.
The eggs benedict on their homemade (i think) muffin bread. need i say more.
One of my favourite places for breakfast. The location is great and the establishment is light and airy, perfect for a fresh feeling morning breakfast. The bright colours keep you feeling warm and fussy into the evening along with their delicious South African styled meals.
Great breakfast spot in the heart of Cape Town. Great coffee and great food at really good rates. Usually the perfect place to go if it was a rough night and you need that extra something special to get you through the day.
I had the most delicious breakfast here. I can see why this is a popular hotspot - the menu is appealing and the food is delicious. I would recommend booking - especially for a weekend breakfast.
Awesome coffee shop to have the best breakfast and great coffee. Been there numerous times when they were jam-packed, yet the service didn't suffer because of it. Loved it.
Arnolds is a reliable place that has great breakfasts for next to nothing and delicious dinners. The two times I have been to Cape Town I have always visited Arnolds multiple times.
Not sure if this is normal for the area but they don't have high chairs (this time visiting with a toddler) but they were so welcoming to her and even whipped up a babycino as a surprise.
There are vouchers out there that will get you a free bottle of wine for your table, not sure what the quality of the wine will be as I am yet to use it. If you are staying at a nearby hotel/hostel have a look for the coupons.
Wow! What service! Unable to get to Arnold's because my car was broken down, they sent a vehicle to pick me up so that I wouldn't not miss my Friday breakfast.
And what a great breakfast it is.
We have been dying to try Arnolds after many of our friends have raved about the breakfast. We figured we'd give it a try for lunch and got the burger. I had the beef burger with bacon, melted cheese and avocado, while the mister got the beef burger with biltong, blue cheese and peri peri mayo. Both also came with lettuce, tomato and carmelised onions. Pros: the patties were delicious and flavourful (200g each). The burger was easy to eat and the add ons were nice. Cons: we felt that the meal could come come with a few more wedges. Also, with the add ons, the burger costs R90...while this burger was certainly good, it isn't R90 good. We would rather skip the ad ons and spend R65 for the meal. Overall this isn't our top burger spot, but the atmosphere is chill and the service was good. We will be back to try the breakfast.
Now excuse me when I say this but this place is my savior after I've had a rough night out. They make the most incredible eggs Benedict oh my gash. Service is astounding and I love this place so much.
Want to start your day off on a great note - stop by here for their R20 breakfast and great coffee and a little catch up with the colleagues. We used to do work brekkies here every Monday just to start our Monday's off on a fabulous note. Great spot, very accessible and the food and service is really great too. I have been here for evening drinks a couple times too and the vibe is awesome
Been going to Arnold's on kloof for years great food, breakfast always the best. lunch burger ostrich style hit the spot will be back soon..
What can one say about Arnold 's. The early bird breakfast is definitely a winner and the staff are always willing to tend to your needs. The game platter is a definite must yet my personal favourite are the warthog ribs. If you lucky enough to get hold of a voucher you can enjoy your order with a nice bottle of wine to which is always a good thing.

Always a viby Sunday breakfast stop. Early cappuccino only R10. Reasonably priced breakfast, and tasty. I can personally recommend the flapjacks and the eggs benedict. Service can be slow, and order that second cup of coffee well in advance, you tend to wait a bit. New manager is a long time employee, he is fabulous, and well worth taking a moment to chat.
Arnold's is one of our regular haunts. For a cheap and cheerful breakfast you can't go far wrong. Lunches are more on the pricey side but sometimes there are some good deals on the specials board. Today it was chefs breakfast all round. Pity you can't choose how you would like your eggs done, and also a pity that my coffee tasted a little burnt. Service was slower than we're used to. Go for: cheap breakfast while watching Kloof street hipsters stroll past. Don't go if : you want poached eggs with your chefs breakfast ;)
Their Chef's Breakfast special is the best value for money breakfast in Cape Town. Combine that with great service, friendly staff and a cheerful atmosphere
Arnolds is your typical local weekday supper restaurant. There is nothing fancy, romantic or fun about this restaurant...BUT perfect for a quick bite to eat in the week. The food really is good and something different to the usual menus you see in Cape Town. They offer game meat, which you don't often see. I had the wartog ribs, and it was awesome, really juicy and not too salty. I love the stir fry vegetables they offer with the food and big potatoe wedges instead of the average chips.
I enjoyed the friendly service and I can see the helpfulness between staff, it always makes for a great experience.
The bathrooms do need some attention though, very cheap pink hand wash and a little dirty all round ; (
Otherwise, I think I'll be back for a week day dinner.
Arnolds is always a winner for a weekend breakfast with the crew. There is always a vibe and crowds of mates coming together. The service was a bit slow but granted we were a table of 10. The breakfasts are well priced but if you opt for an omelette the extras will quickly add up.
Nice breakfast spot. Reasonably priced. Gets quite busy. It looked much better after they have done the renovations. The staff are not always that friendly though.
Awesome vibe and friendly competent staff. Good for lazy breakfast/brunch after a big night out with friends. Coffee is good too. Had dinner once, but while it was good was a bit pricey for amounts
Arnolds is well known for the early bird special and that's what drew me back. That, and being the only place in town open before 7am. The special is R18 for two eggs, toast, tomatoes and an ostrich chipolata. The food came quickly on a hot plate, service was friendly and they had Rye bread at no extra cost. I washed it down with a R20 coffee (average) and all-in-all, it was a pleasant experience that I would repeat if need be.
A great breakfast spot, though everyone in CPT surely knows that. We went round for an early morning weekend breakfast. I had the salmon eggs Floretine, which, for R70, was a very generous portion. It was not streaming warm, but that can be forgiven, as it was a chilly morning. I also had two hot chocolates (it was so nice that I had to have two).
This place is highly recommended
One of our newlywed traditions that we started is to always stop here for breakfast when we are in CT... Great vibe, and love to watch the CT creatives having chilled meetings over coffee.
One place that will always consistently give amazing quality and great tasting food every time! And so well priced too. One of my favorites ❤️
My first time at Arnold's. A place I have often walked past in kloof street but never stopped to go inside. What a pleasant experience . Had the most delicious Cheesecake and a cappuccino & the staff were friendly and very efficient. Look forward to trying more on their menu.
Easily one of my top 3 favorite places to have breakfast in Cape Town.
Arnold's is also home to one of cape town's best eggs Benedicts - second only to Manna Epicure in my opinion! (Plus they're pretty cheap!)
It's a great spot to meet for brunch, grab a table outside and people watch as passers by rush up and down Kloof Street.
Be sure to order a Red Latte and ask for extra honey! You won't be sorry!
Hands down, my favourite breakfast place in town. The breakfast special is always tasty and well priced. Wonderful staff, cool vaab. Go there, go now!
Always my choice of breakfast with a hang over, a double special and their orange juice normally does the job, great value for money and always tasty, good coffee too for after you stuff your face
Had drinks and snacks with the Twitter crew tonight. Managed to be there for happy hour. Drinks are good and snack basket was good too. Good value for money. Next time I will try some of the game meat on the menu.
Food was good but a bit pricey being a student. Service was exceptional and food and drinks came out quickly. Great experience. Great spot for tourists.
Reliably consistent food quality and service. Good range of game dishes and all day breakfasts make Arnold's worth a visit. Catering to tourists looking for a taste of SA and locals alike.
The old breakfast favourite.
They do things well, friendly and the food is always of a good to high standard.
Never managed to make it for the early bird breakfast specials. But the value is good anytime.
Very good service on offer, we were offered two complimentary wines with the diner which was a 1st! I totally enjoyed the funky chicken dish & am keen to return for more..
Tried the strawberry and passion fruit mojito and wow did they make it so strong, I could barely finish it. The seats are quite uncomfortable, the benches being too close to the actual table, causing you to hunch over all the time. But nonetheless the food was lovely. Tasty and fresh. Especially the chicken wings. The snack basket has a great variety

Arnold's is the place to be on a Saturday or Sunday morning! With great breakfast to choose from and yummy coffee's! Best thing after a Lions Head Hike! Aubrey Turner
Great stop early in the morning. Business breakfast with a colleague.
Large coffee is really large and excellent quality. The breakfast options are quite varied, we had the morning special with ostrich sausage and we'll prepared eggs! The little bowl of jam is a nice touch. I will come back and recommend this establishment to friends and family. Good spot on Kloof Street !
Lovely spot for breakfast. Had a light meal: bacon, camembert and spring onion croissant with an iced coffee. Food and Service was good, need to work on the iced coffee. Does get busy, so recommend booking a table.
Amazing place for breakfast and dinner.
The food is really good and the people very nice.
100% recommended
Excellent breakfast! One of the waitresses is super nice, the other one not so much. I'll definitely return despite the unwelcoming waitress.
I love this place. Their food is so delicious, on this day I had their classic burger (I forgot to take a picture of the burger), carrot cake with ice cream for dessert and their strawberry daiquiri was amazing! The space is really nice and aesthetically pleasing I must admit. Definitely worth it!
Went there three nights in a row on my three days in Cape Town. Food was delicious. Nice evening view of Table Mountain and Devil's Peak at the sun was setting.
Great restaurant, with several South African meat types that are really good. Kudu is above all, highly recommend
Kelvin was so kind and accommodating, despite me coming right as they opened
Had the perfect cup of coffee to start my day and a beautiful stack of pancakes
Beautiful, peaceful atmosphere, and would totally come back to try some of their other items
GREAT service
This place is my new go-to spot for a Sunday brekkie. Breakfast is served all day, the food is impeccable and the staff is very friendly. The prices are reasonable and the vibe is great. Will highly recommend this place.
What a nice find. We really enjoyed our dining experience at Arnolds. The food was prepared with care and very tasteful. I will definately return to have the Cesar salad again and again. Special thanks to the manager for the Koelenhof.
