Review The Butcher Shop And Grill - Cape Town Central

Pa Lin
Baby wanted a steak ..and when Baby wants a steak- Baby gets a steak🥩🤣. My love was craving a steak dinner- after a quick search it was decided that we would try the Butcher Shop & Grill. We didn't have a reservation, so we were seated at the family style table, which was great because we met an awesome new friend. The space is impeccable, every thing was so well crafted from the exquisite leather stools, to the leather apron which my husband loves. The lighting was perfect, made for a nice intimate setting to dine alone, with friends/family, or with a good book as one patron did- he was definitely a return guest. The shop had carefully selected items and pairings for said items- love the oyster tank, it is such a cleaver idea. My husband had the ribeye- medium rare with pepper sauce, and I had the grilled pork chops with pineapple and a sweet potato. It was man against steak and man won- he enjoyed every bite. My pork chops were overcooked and dry, but still flavorful. I didn't try the potato as it was also overdone. The critics: My meal was not great- pork has to be handled carefully or else you get sawdust. Our server accidentally poured water in my husband's whisky and charged for a replacement- we didn't catch it until days later and after we left Cape Town. Overall we had an amazing experience and lovely service which made up for the shortcomings. We will absolutely return and I will try something else. Overall a 5 star experience.

I thought they just do grill foods only. So when I went and I found out they had variety on the menu, I was pleasantly surprised. I had an oxtail, and it was really good. My partner had a steak, and he highly rated it - said best steak he ever had. I only had a glass of the house wine - chardonnay, but it was so good. Great on the palate. Service was great. Most importantly, it is kid friendly.

Ok, this place is in South Africa. The atmosphere is inviting, good vibes nice layout. Unique display items. The service as it should be was top notch. Now the steak was done to order the sides were on point. The bartender got down with the mojito. Very good 👍🏾

Now I can say for certain that wherever you are you can get a proper steak. Johannesburg or Cape Town, you can go to the Butchery Shop and get the cut you want cooked to perfection, wether it be Kobe, Wagyu or a simple Sirloin or Rib Eye. Amazing decoration and atmosphere with wine all around you apparently they do not have a wine storage or its too small for the huge wine list they have! Very good service. Food is amazing, whatever you chose on the menu.

We pitched up for a traditional South African meal and were served, steak, pap and creamed spinach on the side, malva pudding for desert and Rock Shandy to wash the lot down. Boy what can I say? The food was DELICIOUS! Steak (we opted for ribeye, medium to well) was perfectly done. Moreover they didn't just fill our stomachs, but also our hearts too!!! ♥️

Such a beautiful and romantic restaurant. Food was great, steaks were cooked to perfection. The only downfall is that the tables are placed way too close to one another, you can't have a conversation with the person sitting across from you and not hear what the people next to you are talking about. Not only that, One would think that you would have a more quiet atmosphere considering the place but there was a table that was so loud and just made it hard to speak to the person sitting across from you. But other than that it was okay. George was a fantastic waiter- thank you for keeping my wine glass full 😄

An incredible restaurant. A definite must visit if you are ever in Cape Town. Great selection of steak 🥩 and wine🍷. The staff are super friendly and very helpful. If you are like me who can’t really make up my mind when presented with several equally amazing options then you will definitely need the staff here. Ask for the game of the day or describe your taste to them and they’ll definitely recommend something great to have and an equally amazing wine to accompany with. To get an even better experience, try at least to reserve a table in advance because it gets busy sometimes and a walk in won’t guarantee you those amazing seats with a view of the sunset. When the weather is nice, you can seat outside which makes the experience even more magical. An impeccable place to enjoy great steak, wine and conversation with a friend or family. This review doesn’t fully describe just how much of a great experience we had. Wholeheartedly recommend it.

Awesome experience and amazing meat dishes. One small negative were that the waiters were not really paying attention to us. We were in two for a date and were sitting at a 4 seater and the waiter didn’t clear the other unused glasses and plates to allow us a little more space. When we asked for it to be cleared we got told “hold on I’m busy” and later came back to clear the table. Drink order was taken late and arrived 25min after we ordered it. When we eventually ordered our food and the waiter realised we ordered an SQ item he was on our table checking up on us every 5 minutes. Our drinks got refilled super quickly and he made conversation with us asking and ensuring everything was ok. Now this isn’t a bad thing, but it would be nice to know that everyone gets treated equally despite how much money they are spending. Felt a little shallow to only get good service if you spend a lot of money or order an SQ item…

For an everyday steakhouse, their meat is delicious and cooked perfectly. Although I prefer grass fed beef, their grain fed meats are soft and tender (i think its mostly Karen beef). The side salad and chips could be improved. Mash is tops. Sit downstairs for the crowd. Had the deconstructed apple crumble for dessert- will skip it next time as its more of a muesli with cooked apple

A solid steak house chain in a good neighborhood, but noisy and with many oddly placed tables. Ask for a window table. Wagyu is sensationally priced and worth the investment. Good wine selection. Service ok.

I invited an overseas guest who craved red meat. The staff suggested that he chooses from butchery. Although he loved the food the bill was R650 for his steak alone! A complete ripoff. Left me at complete quandary.. Did not want to embarrass my friend but left feeling completely robbed. Took away my joy. How can any restaurant justify that price tag for a dish?? Absolutely shocking

Celebratory dinner for my good friend Jess. The staff were A class just like their steak. I dined like a king.

I had the privilege of attending a birthday dinner here and I was stunned. Service was on point. We took a look at the wine cellar and the butchery too. The rib eye is a must!

What a lovely dinner we had at The Butcher Shop & Grill! We were welcomed warmly and the friendly staff gave us an exclusive tour of the restaurant, their wine selection and different cuts of meat.

The Calamari Salad Starter was my absolute favourite! For main, I had slow-roasted lamb, cooked to perfection. The meals are extremely generous portions, therefore I struggled even thinking about ordering dessert. However, when the sorbet was on the table it was the perfect pallet cleanser and delicious way to end off a spectacular dinner.

Thank you The Butcher Shop & Grill!

We had an absolutely amazing experience at Butcher Shop & Grill in Cape Town, from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The tour of the butchery and wine cellar allowed us to pick our cuts of meat and bottles from the vast selection which made it that much more memorable. We were so impressed by the attention to detail and customer service. Highly recommend the snails as a starter as well as the malva pudding dessert. Thank you for making my birthday one to never be forgotten! We will be back very soon.
Omar Ghabrawi
The most miserable restaurant experience in Cape Town. Waiters have a very negative attitude- they asked us to leave the place after finishing our food, claiming that the place was reserved. The steak was burnt and tasted awful. Bottom line, avoid the place!

Celebrated my birthday here with my family. And none of us were disappointed. Decent service. Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Just a few extra opinions: Best avocado prawn cocktail I’ve tasted. I’m not a big lemon meringue fan but the one here has given me something to think about and the steaks are quality. I must admit that it is on the pricey side. But if you have an opportunity to spoil yourself. I would recommend this place.
James McMillan
Great food, although maybe not worth the price. The stunning location makes up for this though, especially if you can sit outside when the wind isn't blowing. Service is very friendly and efficient.
Sybrand Lintvelt
Select your own meat and how big you want it, it can get expensive but with there quality, service and taste worth every cent of it. The staff is great and know there food and there wine. The selection and view is just what you want for a nice quiet lunch or dinner with a loved one.
Nicola Bursnall
We were really impressed. It’s another franchise that meets the expectations.

It is situated across from the beach. The set up of the restaurant is great and well the food was top class.

I would definitely go back the next time I am in CT!

Wonderful ambience on arrival. Went upstairs. Everything was grand and comfortable. Everything was going well and waiters were excellent. Food started arriving. R80 asparagus starter was disgusting and tasteless. We had two bottles of still and one bottle of sparkling water. We were charged for 4 bottles which we only saw the next day. Fillet steak was very good. Lamb chops were excellent. Lamb curry was good. Baby kingklip on the bone was a bit overdone and dry but quite tasty. Creme brûlée was not good. Halva ice cream was very average. Lemon butter sauce was made with a type of cream or mayonnaise. Asked for plain basic lemon butter sauce. Came the same way again. Third time they got it right. Very very expensive place and food was not worth the price. There were 6 of us and we only had one bottle of wine and the bill came to R3000.
The ambience was very nice but for that price we doubt we will go back there. 1 star rating given as they charged us for something which we did not have. Food is good, not great. But both times I’ve been here and ordered “medium- rare” steak. It arrived almost raw inside. So if you are going to order “rare” it may arrive, moo’ing. I don’t like the atmosphere and service. Drink orders often arrive wrong. I was not consuming alcohol at the time for health reasons and ordered a “Mocktail” straight from the menu. But was given a normal Mojito. I don’t make a scene or send things back. So I just left it to the side. Afterwards I ordered a normal Sprite Zero but was given a Sprite. I won’t be visiting again, I’m sure I could visit a better steak place instead.

Best steak house experience I’ve had in as long as I can remember. Laid back venue on the beachfront. Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Personal recommendation from the butcher for best suitable cut for your taste. All the food was excellent
Nelly Makhathini
Went there yesterday and the service was brilliant. The staff was friendly and we even had our meals prepared rather quickly. Added to that, the restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing. The ambience was just fantastic! The food couldn't be faulted either! An all round winner!!
Clare Ford
An upmarket steakhouse overlooking the beach. The restaurant is attached to an artisan butchery which means that you can select cuts of meat to be prepared for your meal. Great service, lovely food and a full wine list with a selection of cocktails.

Went here on a whim and had the beef ribs. They were amazing! Succulent, sweet and soft. BEST ribs in town! (They also do steak). I'd definitely recommend this restaurant. The service is also very professional and friendly
Richard
Good steakhouse although a little short of being "great". Good wine selection although getting stale, choices could do with a make over. Steaks good, professional but needs some innovation to get into 4s scoring.

We were met by smiling staff when we arrived on a busy night. The furnishings and decor were comfortable, upmarket and uncluttered.

The menu offered a good selection without being overwhelming, and the selection of meat at the butcher is impressive; the tasty biltong bites and the ability to select a cut of meat were a winner too.

The food and the service were both good without being exceptional or pretentious.
It was an enjoyable evening and we will surely return for more.

The only down side to the evening was that dining here doesn't come cheap.
Elle Mbadaliga
The service was not so great at first because our waiter was also serving another big table. The decor is fantastic and the ambiance is warm and intimate. I had by far the best ribs I've had in a long time. They were able to offer healthy sides as well so overall the experience was good and I will be going back

We came here twice while in Cape Town because the steak is sooo good. Tender and flavorful. We've had the Ribeye and Filet (only salted), both cooked to perfection. We had the oysters (vinegar/shallot dressing was a perfect compliment), Carpaccio minus the Jalapeño (excellent!), and those mashed potatoes! Beautiful sunset view too. Being from America, one of our favorite steakhouses is Ruth's Chris. This place reminds us a lot of Ruth's Chris but for half the price. Highly recommended!
Lukeconorbolton
The entire experience as a whole was absolutely fantastic. From the booking to the table and waiters, the service can't be faulted. The menu is broad and caters for anyone. We ordered the rump and ribeye, with very high expectations of the standards, the rump was what you would expect at a good restaurant but nothing to write home about but the rib eye was beautifully marbled, succulent and delicious. One of the best steaks I've ever had. The deserts were also top notch with the brownie coming out on top. The chocolate mousse was dense and decadent and a great way to end the night. Would definitely recommend it if you want a great experience and have the budget.

Lekker lekker.

Nice location, very good tenderloin and if you like your meal you can buy the product to take home and make it yourself, which we did. Staff friendly. A bit pricey but what isn't these days. Restaurant was a bit hot.
Vanessa Armstrong
Wonderful service from Simba, professional, knowledgeable. The wine recommendation Delaire Graff, Botmanskloof 2015 was so good and complimented our Meal. The fillet with bernaise and the rib-eye with mushroom sauce, accompanied by pumpkin, spinach and crispy onion rings was so delicious and highly recommended. We will certainly be back, thank you for unpretentious, yet superior dinning experience.
Diederik Van 't Hof
Very nice atmosphere, and you have to look at the ceiling fans!

Awesome selection of meat on the menu. Had the local Prime Rib. Was cooked as ordered, but was not as tender or as "aged" as expected. A very, very good meal, but it needs something more to be spectacular.
KL Ligtenberg
Absolutely love the steak, baked in pepper absolutely divine.
Kids always have a good time and the location is great.
Bit of a challenge to find parking but overall a must to go.

A friend of mine was having her birthday dinner here, upon arrival we were quickly taken to our seats. The restaurant was busy but the service was great and we were well taken care of. The food arrived and it all looked amazing, I had a chicken dish which was also delightful.
Niel Du Toit
Had a fantastic experience. The service was very good, with the waiter knowing the menu very well. The waiter was very interactive and recommended menu items and with his assistance selected the perfect steak. We had prawn starters which were some of the best I've ever tasted. The main meal was exquisite and very well prepared and we enjoyed the experience.

On the 25th February 2017, as in many other occasions, my wife, myself and our son went to the Butcher Grill to have an early great dinner with great food and great wine. All in order. We are regulars and we love the place. Not anymore, unfortunately, due to the aggressive and disturbing behavior of Neil, the so-called General Manager, who aggressively kicked me, my wife and my son out of the restaurant in the rudest way possible because, he said, our table was booked for 8pm (it was 8h30pm when the incident took place, and half the restaurant was empty).

Considering we have been loyal patrons for 2 years, spending on a regular basis R1400, including tip, for 2 adults and a child, I find extremely disturbing that we are removed from our table in such an aggressive way, considering that, at 20h30, half the restaurant was empty, including the window tables where we were sitting (empty, all of them, what the hell!).

Neil, the so-called general manager, after I pointed out how unnecessary his aggressive attitude was, threaten me to be literally kicked out of the restaurant, just like that, regardless of being regular clients, regardless of spending more than a R1000 each time in food and wine, regardless of trying to bring common sense to Neil, the Manager, who has no common sense. It is true that I said his attitude was bullshit. But after being pushed to the limits as patrons, I couldn´t find a better word to describe Neil's attitude.

Neil's, the so-called General Manager, attitude is unacceptable and, therefore, after this shockingly unpleasant experience suffered by this character, we will make sure that we will never go back there again, and we will report this to all the expat community so that they are aware of such a disturbing character.

I am happy to discuss this matter to any relevant person from the restaurant management, outside Neil, the so-called General Manager, who treated me and my family in such a way.

Should we don´t get a formal response and apology for such an unprecedented and disturbing response and behaviour from this Neil, I will make sure this incident spreads through the relevant business and personal channels we are involved in.

Decor very smart. Meat incredible. (Eso lamb shanks and ribs) Vegetables and starches disappointing. Service so so. And R200 pp minimum charge unsavoury.
Adrian Kaplan
Slick service, tastefully done decor and oh my, absolutely delicious beef ribs! There is only a option for a 1kg portion but that's okay. .I have food for days. Friendly attentive service and a helpful manager when we realised that we didn't book for enough ppl in our party. Interesting to note that there is a R200 minimum charge per person.
Liesl Van Wyk Lotter
The food is fantastic 💚
The steak - sirloin on the bone is phenomenal 💜
The ribs were delicious 💙
The kiddies food is great 💛

BUT the service we got was unbelievably crap
We waited 10min for service 💔
When we did get service, it was always in passing by, never focused on us 💔
We poured our own wine - unlike the other tables 💔
The waiter didn't know the details of the menu 💔
We were never asked how is our meal by the manager unlike the other tables 💔
At the end we realized there was complimentary bread which would have been great for the kids 💔
Eventually asked the waiter, is our money different to the other tables or if we paying different prices, he confirmed no, and said the service will improve - IT DIDN'T.
Eventually asked the manager for the bill just to get a snooty reply that the waiter will bring it - He missed the point completely

So, we are coming back, only for the food, and hopefully the service will be better - if not, well....

Went to try the fillet , we ordered 300grams , was very average flavour but nice and tender , the service left alot to be desired , waiter was inattentive and forgot items requested. When Bill came a surprise , we were billed for 350gram fillets and they state @R780 per kg , that is pretty pricey , had better steaks for less

Wow wow wow. What a night. What an experience. What a place. Incredible!! Went there for a boys night and wow (once again). Food TOP NOTCH...setting TOP NOTCH...staff TOP NOTCH. All over TOP NOTCH. The prices are quite steep, but totally worth it. We had a few special requests, and the staff where just terrific in the execution thereof. Thank you so so much. Kate, Ryan you and all the staff made us feel like kings!!
Ayodele Ogunnoiki
I really like the food here. The service is very good, the waiters are polite and cheerful. The waiting time for your food feels nonexistent.

First time I was here I had the lamb shank , It was very tender & tasty. It was paired with a glass of Merlot

My second time I had their pork ribs , it was amazing. I may be tempted to have them again the next time I'm here.

For desert I decided to try something new so I had the Halva ice cream , it's very rich and creamy with a lot of nuts ,so if you aren't big on having a variety of things in your ice cream I'd say skip this.

One of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town left me recently disappointed. The food was superb as usual but it was the attitude of the waiter and floor manager that dulled my experience. The waiter was miserable and uncommunicative, not the norm usually experienced here. The managers attitude to the 2 of us (ladies) wanting us to share a large portion of ribs was met with a statement of "I don't care how you spend your money just make sure it's R200 each"!
Not impressed to say the least.
Jill Nudelman
It's all here: slick service; good ambience; and complementary bread and boerie slices but the fillet steak was sinewy and raw. The manager came to apologize and a new cut was quickly served up. Too quickly it seems because now, although the quality was superb, the replacement was ice cold in the middle. And maybe you shouldn't order fish in a steakhouse but my kingklip was too salty and slightly underdone. The side salad was boring. The prices seemed higher than equivalent steakhouses. Will I be back? Probably. It's good enough. The wine: Keet First Verse 2012 - fabulous.

We had an early dinner here recently. The ambience and setting is opulent; the staff immaculately attired, friendly & welcoming. The tables are perfectly laid on crisp white linen. There is a deli selling interesting goodies; a butcher offering exquisite cuts of meat at good prices and a wine cellar.

The menu boasts a wide variety of meat dishes but seafood too. Our starters were a caesar salad which was a small portion and lacked egg; pork riblets which were well basted, smokey & delicious. Our main courses were lamb loin on a bed of veggies &: cauliflower puree. The loin was tough but the puree was tasty & smooth. Hubby had the burger. The patty was moist & flavourful but the cheese topping was cold and somewhat solidified after melting. The onion rings were ordered did not materialise.

Will we be back? Yes, to the deli.
Natalie21j
Great steaks. Comfortable seating and usually good, friendly but also efficient service. It's good quality food with a view and calming ambience.
Jemal
Absolutely outstanding food and service!!! You have to experience it for yourself. Quite a classy restaurant so it's nice to dress up a little.
I Love Foodies
It’s the end of the year, so we might as well go out in a bit of style. And what better way to do that than with a fancy dinner? The lucky restaurant to be featured on this last day of 2014 is The Butcher Shop and Grill, a relative newbie to the Mouille Point beachfront, but definitely no stranger to the art of good food.
Vumi
I really like this place. The staff remembered my face from the first time I was there and are always very friendly, helpful, attentive (but don't pry). The steaks always make me so happy! I love the decor and how you can actually feel like you're having a private meal with someone. Great place.
Dalton Lester
I really enjoyed the food and vibe of the restaurant, prices are also good for fine dinning in Cape Town and I would suggest to try them out.

I just want to say that Iv been to the butcher shop before and I genuinely enjoy their food, but this was possibly the worst experience Iv had there. The food was good but the service was not up to standard. Our waiter took forever to clear out table up between all meals, he did not check on us at all, we had to keep calling different waiters to order our drinks and meals, and had to keep asking them to clear our table. Was not impressed at all. I think it was just the experience with that one waiter because we've never had this issue before.
The oxtail and cream spinach are definitely my favorite! The snails were tasty, the halloumi was a bit too oily.. The best meat for me is definitely the weygu steak, must try👌🏽
Vuyo Renene
I really thought that I would have a better dining experience here but I found myself having quite an average meal and receiving average service. I had the oysters as a starter and I must say they tasted white fresh and I enjoyed them.
For a main, I had the sirloin steak (off the bone) and it wasn't really that good, I asked for it to be medium rare but it tasted more medium/well done. As usual I had the mash potatoes mixed with mushroom sauce as a side. My friend had the oxtail and she said that it's very good, my friends enjoyed their meals but felt that they could've had a better dining experience.
Our waiter was a bit slow and took a lot of time to clear up our table and gather our orders. Overall, I was quite disappointed.
Talia Lee Cohen
Over the top decor. Very slow to bring the meals despite an empty restaurant. The food was good but they really should have a bit of fun adding some cool vegetarian/vegan dishes... Quite dull. Also, be aware of bring birthday cakes, they charge... Cool flaunty wine bottles all over the place and neat bathrooms. Think it's better when it's full with a vibe. Not sure it suits it's location either... Enjoyed the bread and peri peri sauce though👌

Popped in for dinner tonight and it was a great experience. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our seats.
The staff were attentive but not intrusive. Sipho and Bail (spelling) were knowledgeable and friendly. I had baby kingklip and the rest of the table had steaks. Food is well priced and wine is excessively priced. Overall we had a great time!
Chloe
When you Google 'best steak in Cape Town', why does this place not come up?! As my fiancé loves steak, we have tested many a steak from the 'best' restaurants and they didn't come near this. I had the local ribeye with mushroom sauce and a side of sweet potato which were all cooked to perfection. It is definately a stand out meal for me. The whole experience was great as well. The presentation was great, our waiter was excellent, friendly and efficient. The complimentary bread was served with delicious pieces of boerewors. I had their chocolate brownie for dessert which was massive and really tasty. I will definately be returning!

I didn't actually eat here, but I had all the intentions of doing so. We called and booked a table here last night for 5 of us. My wife wasn't particularly hungry so she decided on having a starter, and one of her cousins was just joining us for company and decided to have a dessert. The rest of us were going order mains and drinks.

When the waiter came to take our orders, starting with my wife who asked for a starter, he advised that there is a minimum charge of R200 per head for adults. Never ever heard of this at a restaurant before. Firstly they were not busy at all with at least 10 free tables, so they weren't fighting off a crowd outside. Secondly, if this was the policy, the management could have just said that normally on a busy night this was not allowed and allowed us to order a meal.

Anyway we got up and walked out the restaurant, it actually disgusts me that such an establishment would allow customers to actually get up and leave without even an attempt to rectify the situation. Even if the food is good here, with a mentality like this I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I'm very fussy with steak and usually don't order it when I go to restaurants. Someone told me, if I wanted to eat steak this is the place to eat it. At first I was a bit reluctant, but after taking one bite of the steak I couldn't stop. It was fantastic! I got spinach as a side dish which complemented the steak really well. The ambiance was lovely and the service was excellent. We ordered a chocolate brownie with ice cream to round of the night. The warm, fudgy, chocolatey brownie with the ice cream just melted in my mouth. Despite being stuffed after the steak, I just had to make some space for this decadent dessert.

Zomato was the reason for heading there in the first place.. 4 star is an accurate rating, I've been at better steakhouses but I'll struggle to name them right now. My only complaint is that the portions are not at all sized the way its advertised on the menu.. Other than that its epic! Good setting, good vibe.. Great steaks.

I went to the Butchers Grill for a Sunday lunch for 3 people. I must admit that the price of the steaks was very steep at R780 per kg, however it was definitely made up with the taste. Had some of the best onion rings that I have tasted too with my meal. If you don't mind forking over about 350 per person. Then I would highly recommend this as a must visit restaurant.

I've been wanting to try The Butcher Shop & Grill for the longest time now, and I finally got to try it last night.

Firstly, I love the setting, vibe and ambiance. It's way bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside (love the levels) and I love that it's a butcher shop and resturant, an experience most other steakhouses don't offer.

I also love that their meat is halaal, which gives us (Muslims) another option when deciding where to eat lol. I was assured that the meat is 100% halaal and that there are separate grills in the kitchen for pork products.

Overall, the food was very good. My black mushroom gratin was amazing and the perfect size. My beef fillet was super soft, even though I defeat the purpose and order it 'well done' lol. Their black pepper sauce is also one of the best I've tasted. Lastly their lemon meringue pie dessert was very good, but I felt the portion was too big for how insanely sweet it was (and I have a serious sweet tooth).

My only criticism is the service... my waiter was very lackluster and practically threw everything on our table. He was also not very helpful with explaining anything or very enthusiastic to help us.

I wish I could have eaten more because the food was really, really good. Despite the shitty service, I would like to pop by again to try more dishes, and hope that the service let-down was an isolated incident.

Lovely ambience and unique decor. Loved the steak cut explanations and viewing. Excellent service staff right from the hostess to the wait staff and this place could have gotten a higher if the meat was better or rather it was not the best I've had and based on reviews I expected it to be. The oysters on the other hand were !!! Plump, fresh and best ever. I had the fillet and my partner had the rump steak. Even though we went with the recommendation or medium rare both meats were a little chewy and is not quite hit the high notes.

We knew we wanted AMAZING steak and wanted to try somewhere new. We wandered into the Butcher shop and grill and were greeted by a polite hostess, charming waiter, sophisticated but 'steakhouse' feel decor and a slightly cramped leather chaired table (I do prefer not to hear my table neighbors chatting). We started with the boerewors taster (lovely), a Roquefort salad to share (tasty but not spectacular) and a lovely bottle of Springfield (the wine list is well constructed with great variety). The fillet and rib eye were both good; well basted, cooked as we ordered, and, quite tender (not the best steak I've had in Cape Town but a solid 8/10). The mushroom sauce was disappointing but redeemed by the delicious pumpkin and spinach (definitely recommended!). I was disappointed by the side potato (literally a baked potato with no flare) and would prefer vegetables to be included as a standard side. The restaurant is expensive, and definitely aimed more at the tourist exchange rate (R1000 for the 2 of us with no dessert or coffee). I would recommend this grill house... to tourists.

Terrific Saturday lunch at The Butcher's Grill. Top notch steaks. Party of six all thoroughly enjoyed - ribeye, fillet, rumps and ribs - their respective steaks. Wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Will definitely return!

Absolutely wonderful evening! While the decor has the typical classic grill house/ steak house feel, the experience is beyond extraordinary! The waiters are extremely well informed and attentive! From the starters to the mains(the food was so good that it was impossible to save space for dessert) the quality of food just seemed to improve! The Haloumi starter was a bit flavorless, but that was possibly the only down side to the evening as a whole. The Boerre wors starters were such a hit, that we ordered another round, on top of the Haloumi, Riblets and Calamari starters! My boyfriend and I made the best decision by ordering the pork ribs in BBQ basting, because it was utterly divine!!! I definitely over ate that night, simply because the food is far too tasty to deny yourself more! There was an excellent vibe and the room was filled with laughter!I will definitely be going back for a second visit!!

Steak night!! Decided that the butcher's shop & grill will be my first steak place review of CT. The place was packed but the friendly hostess found a place for me outside. Ordered the rib eye (medium rare of course) with sweet potatoes side. Both were cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed the meal and the friendl unless of the staff. Very satisfying meal while overlooking the lighthouse.

Great steakhouse with very decent prices. We had prime rib steaks 500g with the bone in and the meat was fantastic. I liked also the bacon and avocado garden salad. The service was a bit on a slow side but friendly. In my opinion this place is not on the level of Belthazar. they have sommelier and 2 wine cellars but I found him average. All in all good value for money but not top in CapeTown

A really beautifully designed restaurant. The butchery and retail side of the store is very impressive and prices are very reasonable for the product you receive.

The restaurant itself is let down by the service. Often having to look for a waiter and with, what must have been at least 4 managers on duty, not really acceptable. For a shop that carries such a good name, my expectations were high and I was very surprised at the low standards of the side dishes. Frozen chips, especially, really have no place in a steakhouse.

We stumbled into this restaurant (looking for another restaurant recommended by a friend). The butcher was a great find, its aesthetically pleasing and ask for MK if you want great service ( yes ask for MK)... I'm very big on service and he killed it (that's a good thing by the way).
@I had a sirloin with mushroom source and my date #baby had a lamb curry and both meals were out of this world.

While the mains were being prepared we were given the most amazing bread yoooooooh my tongue was in bread heaven.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. #greatservice #goodfood #goodwine

They managed really well to create an upmarket atmosphere in an stylish setting. The quality of the food is exceptional and the service is attentive and informed. The Tiramisu is worth skipping aan starter for.

The service is impeccable and not even to mention the meat. I love the Argentinean meat and the Wagyu is always a spoil. The wine list always keeps me pondering on a choice. Love the little deli shop. This is the best place for proper meat in CPT

The Butcher Shop & Grill has a very awesome vibe. The decor is great, giving it a proper butcher house vibe with the massive Nguni above the bar and the window with the hanging meat cuts. We got here at about 18:30 and it was very quiet but by the time we left at 22:30 it was pumping! They have a very extensive wine list but it is rather expensive. I had the lamb chops which was a rather generous portion but they were a bit fatty for my liking. The grilled halloumi was a great starter but I probably wouldn't get it again as it was just a bit too much cheese. The cheesecake however was melt in your mouth delicious.

I had the kabeljou fantastic the best i ever had. Atmosphere was vert vibrant. Service was excellent. Staff very friendly. Will definately return.

The Izibambu Izimvu is very hard to beat as a Starter or Main. The Sirloin on the Bone is to write home about. Sitting outside in the evening was fresh after a scorching Cape Town day. The waiter did not measure up to the Mandela Square standard.

Came here awhile ago and wow such great fillet steaks. Abit pricy but oh so worth it...buttery soft fillet! What's also great it that they have a deli when you can buy all types of meats and products.

Very nice ambience, and good location, but meat selection wasn't that much of a choice. They do seafood and other meats as well, and 2 vegetarian options. An attached deli/ butchershop in the premises. I do prefer Carne better though! In terms of meat selection and knowledge from Carne's waiters, top notch! This, to me, is just another Cattle Baron's... Price is slightly above Cattle Baron, and on par with Carne, you decide 😉.

Really delicious meal and fun evening! Such great meat paired with excellent wine 👌🏼 super friendly and helpful waiter. Everyone in our party had a happy experience. Love the little deli at the front of the restaurant too!

There was nothing wrong with the food. Service was fine too. However, the prices are ridiculous. One of the guys had a mushroom starter... Two Black mushrooms with a bit of cheese for R80! It's very easy to find as good for half the cost.
Tam Mc Fadden
We really enjoyed our meal and the wine, but found it extremely disappointing when you waiter knocks over your glass of wine, and doesn't replace it. It then becomes very expensive.

The meat is excellent, service attentive and the venue has a definite air of grandeur.
It would have been nice to have more composed meals and the chef's ideas and palate reflected on the menu as opposed the "build-it-yourself" model they seem to have implemented.

The location and view are exceptional. The decor relaxed but posh.

The boerie appetiser seemed a little strange, luke warm and overcooked. If this was someone first introduction to the traditional boer sausage they could be put off for life!

I ordered the sirloin steak with pepper sauce and fries. The steak was presented perfectly to temperature and the seasoning was to my liking. The pepper sauce, nicely balance and not over starchy from any thickener. Well done.

The fries, however, were disgusting. Typical dry "frozen" chips. Not what I expect from a gourmet restaurant. They should be using fresh potato and teaching staff how to fry them properly.

In fact, this brings me yo one of my pet hates. Most restaurant use frozen chops of the McCain variety and it is an insult to the foodie. Frozen chips deliver a crisp but hollow and tasteless piece of food that can only try badly to impersonate a proper, fried chopped potato. In a number of restaurants I have consulted I have put frozen and fresh chips side by side in a blind tasting and the dress are unanimously selected. So why do restaurants persist. They are not even saving money using frozen! It's die right lazy.

Waiting staff were friendly and helpful if a little slow but could be seen as s negative.

Overall the boerie and the chips knocked the score. I'll try gem again in a while when I don't feel so indignant about paying gourmet prices for cheap frozen chips.

Was intrigued by the complimentary bread & boerie grouping. Blown away by the matured steak and lamb shank. The spinach is to die for! Would def go back.

I always get Ribeye. It was good (but wasn't cooked perfectly... I asked for medium and half of my steak was very raw). The mash potatoes and onion rings were delicious. Iv had better steak elsewhere in Cape Town (Balthazar or Nelsons Eye). Service was good. They have a very impressive wine list but it isn't cheap.

What a fabulous night which proved not all steakhouses are created equal. The decor is great, it's comfortable and the acoustics mean conversations at neighbouring tables are not intrusive. It lost half a point only because the sirloin wasn't as good as expected, but the Argentinean rib eye was superb. We loved the little extras on the side, especially the crispy fat. Service is brilliant - Deon is one of the best waiters in Cape Town.

We had the most wonderful date at The Butcher Shop & Grill. We popped in during load shedding after our own dinner plans at home were ruined and they immediately made a plan for us, despite being fully
booked. Our waiter Adrian was perfect: honest, knowledgable, and on it.

We had the izimvambu (I hope I'm spelling that right) : basically the most amazing riblets you've ever tasted! And then the Kobe Beef and the Argentinean RibEye. We paired the meat with the Pick's Pick Gold Pinotage (delicious, and versatile but not too heavy - from The Kanonkop Estate). We took the white and dark chocolate mousse home with us (with yet another bottle of wine) and enjoyed every bite! Though I am not a desert person, I could definitely add that to my regular diet!

Decor is a lovely touch of modern encased with "throw-back". The actual butcher, where one can go up and select ones meat and size, is perfect for the ambiance. High ceilings (awesome old-school ceiling fans which actually work), tall leather booths, and a warm feeling make it a perfect winter dining spot.

My experience at The Butcher Shop & Grill was absolutely amazing. Beautiful interior decor, friendly helpful service, and a fantastic selection to choose from on the menu. I had the Rump steak with a Béarnaise sauce which was delicious and perfectly cooked. On the pricey side, but not unreasonable. A nice place to treat yourself.

Went for lunch today. Great setting and staff very attentive. Steaks were really good albeit a little on the expensive side. For a special occasion will definitely go back

Amazing food! Had the mussels to start, they were very creamy and tasty. The steak was absolutely delicious, it was very tender, juicy and perfectly done. Decided on the apple berry crumble for dessert, as recommended by our waiter, and I must say he was spot on! Excellent service from our waiter, very helpful with recommendations and always made sure we were taken care of. The set up and atmosphere of the restaurant is impressive as well.

This is definitely the place where I would bring family/friends visiting from overseas to have a great steak.

First time dining here. Awesome food and service. The argantinian steak was mouth watering. Chocolate mouse was amazing. Will definitely go back.
Bella Italia
I had a wonderful meal here last night with my husband and two of our friends. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. She was willing to do whatever it took to accommodate us. I had the pork ribs which were delicious! The Creme brûlée was also beautifully made. My friend had the lemon meringue which she said was, 'the best she had ever had'! Friendly staff, great service and guaranteed a good night!

This is one of my new favourite spots in the Mother City. The food is absolutely delicious, the wine list is fantastic and the service is very respectable. If you're looking for a great piece of meat and a lovely glass of red wine, head down and experience this place!

Remember to buy some meat from the butchery on the way out :)

I absolutely love this place. The food is great and there is a wide range of options to choose from, but not to be outdone by exceptional service from the staff. The prices are reasonable for the great quality of food and service on offer. I highly recommend it for anyone who looking for a meat paradise.👌👌
Took a client there and really enjoyed the ambience, service and food was delicious.

I think the pricing is fair for the standard of the restaurant. I think they offer good value especially because their meat portions are bigger than average.

I had the beef fillet, salt and peppered with bbq sauce separately and as a side dish I chose the creamy spinach and fries. Also try their condiments of chilli and mustard seed sauce. It really compliments the meal.

If you're wanting custom cuts they have a butcher who can provide anything your heart desires.

My guests had prime rib which they both enjoyed as well.

I will definitely return.

Enjoyed going somewhere new in CT, but not at all cheap at R450 pp. Starters around R80. Our steaks were lovely but both R184. A lot to pay for a steak I think. Awesome decor and they have craft beer on tap which is always a winner. You can see the meat and get a tour of the butchery section which is cool. A great night and awesome service, but for the price I think you can get much more bang for your buck elsewhere in CT. Happy I went though.
Really awesome decor, great food and friendly waiters. Highly recommend the Rib eye with Blue Cheese sauce and chocolate brownie for dessert if you still have some space.
Andrew Clare
A very disappointing lunch. Service average at best. In fact the best part of our visit was the view to Green Point lighthouse. One to be missed. Newport, next door would be a better option

I can only say good thing about this superb restaurant! The ambience and atmosphere was spot on, the fish and steak was cooked to perfection and the side order of roast butternut, chips and salad were all delicious! I highly recommend one spoils themself at this divine restaurant but be sure to have a heavy wallet because with good R310 Baden Powell
7600 Stellenbosch, Western Cape quality comes expense.

When you walk in you can feel that this is it. Typical Butcher's Grill decor ...

The waiters are very friendly and very willing to advise on the menu ...

I ordered a 500g fillet .. medium rare .. what else? Meat dishes and especially steaks are their claim to fame. A starch come with the dish so I ordered a baked potato and creamy spinach which was an extra.

Excellent service and food. Far better than Butchers Jhb. Had excellent sardines to start. Bbq chichen breaststroke as main. Its a must when in CT

Finally they've came to CT. Without hesitation, one of the best places to eat meat in town. They really look after the meat, they don't do funny things (excessive basting, sauces, etc...), and the result is excellent.
The sole problem i see is that the tables upstairs can be a bit noisy during the evenings.

Jackie Rimer Yutar
Food was great, very smart restaurant. Was completely ruined by having to wait 45 minutes for dessert. Also charged for extras we weren't aware of. Wouldn't go again!

Wow wow wow!!!! Went with the family tonight for dinner and had the most amazing meal! Service is excellent the staff are well informed of everything. Great wine selection. If you are a meat lover or a tourist here I would recommend this place

I had never heard of the butchers shop and grill before so decided to give it a go.

The staff were super friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

We were a party of 3 and decided to order starters, I hade the carpaccio with had lovely truffle and the meat was soft and flavorsome.

For mains I ordered the rib eye with a pepper rub, at no extra charge. The meat meat cooked perfectly medium rate and the baked potato was a real treat as I haven't had one in years.

My girlfriend order the T-bone steak and unfortunately was over cooked, but the waiter apologized and brought her a new new steak cooked perfectly with an extra side of spinach.

It was a great meal and the staff and management really were on top form. I will defiantly return and order a specialty steak from the butcher next time.
