Review Baia Seafood Restaurant - Cape Town Central

NJ Tomlinson
I booked this table before my trip to Cape Town after reading reviews and seeing the menu, I also requested a nice table with a view! The V&A waterfront is such a lovely place! The staff at Baia took note of our request for a nice table and did just that! Can’t thank them enough! The food was delicious! The staff were so friendly! I’m so glad we chose this as our ‘Holiday Date Night’! If you’re thinking of booking, please don’t hesitate!

This was such a special dining experience that ended with me hugging our waiter 😂♥️ Cal is so good at what he does. In one of the busiest restaurants, he made us feel like his one and only guests. Thank you for honouring our request for “the best seat in the house”. The food was impeccable, with even better views!

One of the best seafood meals I ate while in Cape Town! The fresh grilled sardines and the whole grilled linefish were cooked wonderfully - flavorful and clearly very fresh! The view from the seating area was fantastic as well — there’s something special about eating fresh seafood while looking out at the sea. The service was fantastic — easily 5 stars! The staff was incredibly accommodating. Hard not to go back during my time visiting Cape Town, but alas, I wanted to try some other places too.

An amazing dining experience! The food was exceptional, bursting with delightful flavors that perfectly matched the recommendations from the attentive waitress. The restaurant exuded a fantastic atmosphere, complemented by top-notch service. I'll definitely be returning for more.

Just perfect, loved it. Everything was great, delicious food, great service and wonderful views. I had the salmon and lobster, 5*. And the chocolate tart, which was the perfect ending for our dinner. Thank you for offering good food quality and service, to have a memorable dining experience.

Omg !!! This restaurant is a must do book early! I did a tour with Globus Tours, and this was a restaurant they had for one of our dinners. Despite the cab strikes that were happening in the city, the food was a 10/10 . That calamari and that sauce was cooked to perfection. The sea Bass had me lacking my fingers the cheese came was divine. I had the white white wine white, and it was great for me. This is a definite must visit!!!

Had the king flip, cray fish tail, langoustine. King flip was very tasty with a unique texture, it was our first time and we really love it. Crayfish tail was ok. Langoustine was also another highlight, sweet and flavorful. Waiter service was ok, it started off well and he needed to serve other tables and kind of slowed down to clear up our’s, another waiter had to tend to us. He also forgot our items as it was kept in the restaurant’s counter. Utensils were not replaced after each meal, even when it was left on the plate. But overall friendly and clean. Love the atmosphere, very well set up restaurant that is considered semi fine dining(just don’t expect explanations in regards to your food). Will return!

Best quality and freshest fish and seafood with amazing service. Excellent wine selection with reasonable prices. One of the best restaurants in Cape Town

Awesome food and great service ( Andy looked after us ) and coupled with an exceptional view ! Wow. Thot that the price of the food was very fair to the quality that was served. We only ate seafood and all were so fresh. Longing to go again soon !

Celebrated a 90th Birthday. Service was really great, thanks Billy. The food is on another level. All dishes were served piping hot and the freshest fish ever. All dishes were subtly spiced, and the spices used complimented the different dishes. Keep up the fantastic standard. We shall be back!

It was the first restaurant I went to in SA and was blown away by the quality of their kingklip and salmon sashimi. It was incredibly fresh and had a delicious flavour that was accentuated by the expertly cut sashimi and with sesame oil it was clear that the restaurant takes great care in selecting only the highest quality fish for their customers.

Great restaurant excellent service Food excellent quality little on the expensive side but portions are generous which you don’t see these days. Location excellent.

Dinner was exceptional! We were a group of 12 and they were very accommodating! Our waitress was superb! Grilled calamari was so delicious - we had it the traditional menu version as well as a lighter version with just lemon and oil. The salmon sashimi was exceptional! We tried a variety of menu items for dinner as well. The whole baby kingklip was WONDERFUL! The shellfish platter was huge and very delicious. We had a small cheesecake and espresso martini for dessert, perfect ending!

The restaurant is really beautiful with indoor and covered outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the Waterfront and Table Mountain. I ordered the fish platter (Line fish, chips, rice, prawn, calamari, langoustines and lobster) and wife had the salmon and lobster. All the seafood was cooked to perfection and so delicious. The sauces really complimented the food. The service at this restaurant is out of this world. It's a definite must visit for any seafood lover.

Probably my favourite restaurant along the V&A Waterfront. The decor is classic and perhaps a little bit outdated but the food and service is excellent, the seats and tables are comfortable (with linen tablecloths and napkins) and the views are stunning (overlooking Table Mountain). The seafood and fish are always fresh and beautifully prepared. Price/Quality is better than most other places along the waterfont that tend to be overpriced and/or lacking good quality. Try the calamari starter and the trio of fish.

Love it!! A real treat! Amazing service and seafood!

We went with high expectations. I still suggested the venue as I was a fairly regular at Baia. The last time I was there I received bad service, however I gave them the benefit of the doubt but this time the service was even worse. We waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food. The waiter was absent most of the time. The manager Carlos was called and explained the delay but this was not adequate he really was not worried as the restaurant was packed. So clearly our bad service carried no merit. Our waiter was more concerned with his other table. We called him a few times just to bring sparkling water waited 15 minutes for coke. We had mussels and was not offered a spoon we once again tried to get hold of waiter whom just gave us a hand. I am use to good service and he didn't even offer a complimentary drink or water for the inconvenience. I will never recommend anyone again and would much rather recommend Piguile "s whom is consistent with their service and food.

Haven't been there in a while but I had a dinner nightmare at one of the other seafood restaurants in the V&A Waterfront tonight and it just reminded me of how good Baia actually is.<br/><br/>They are always a pleasure and their food is always top class.<br/><br/>I will definitely be back there soon.

Weeknight dinner at Baia, was actually quite busy. We were quite a large team. Vegetarian options very limited except for salad or soup. They did however accommodate me with a coconut haloumi and vegetable curry. Definitely not the best curry I have had. The desert of individual baked Lindt chocolate cake with ice cream was hands down the best dessert I have had in a while. Also tried the lemon butter sauce which was really yummy. The rest of the team enjoyed the seafood.

Baia is a very classy but reasonably priced restaurant. We started with lovely oysters and my main course was 3 game: ostrich, springbok and kudu - an excellent introduction to new (to us) dishes. The kudu was especially delicious. Service was attentive and informative and the bill was a pleasant surprise. Highly recommended.

The location is excellent with stunning views of the V&A Waterfront. The baby lobster tails were recommended by the waiter and was absolutely amazing. The calamari was delicious, all the food was exceptional and a highly recommended restaurant to visit

It’s not very often I go to a place where I can’t fault a single thing. Baia was just superb. From the hostess who was so friendly and scored me a window seat without a reservation, to my bubbly waitress that gave really good recommendations and the food...wow! <br/><br/>I started off with the scallops. Insanely good! Highly recommended. Moved on to the linefish of the day with langoustines. The fish was served on top of the smoothest, buttery mash. The fish itself was cooked to perfection and the langoustines (although smaller than I expected), were delicious and sweet. For dessert I had the Lindt choc pudding - gorgeous! <br/><br/>Loved the complimentary warm dinner rolls served before the meal. Adored the little cookies that came with the bill. This place is super pricey, but so worth it. I would definitely return.
MinionMan
This is a busy restaurant. It is, like most restaurants at the Waterfront, pricey, but the seafood is indeed fresh, tasty and excellent The food is ‘Portuguese influenced’ (their description). The service is friendly. Well worth a visit.

We found the ambiance somewhat unrelaxing. Whilst some of our party really enjoyed their food, my wife was put off what she initially wanted to order, by the waiter, and so didn’t fully enjoy the alternative. Perhaps a more relaxed approach by the waiter would have suited us better.
Zelmarie Beselaar
An excellent evening with exceptional seafood! From the accommodating and very knowledgeable staff, who made great suggestions, to the extensive wine list - everything was sublime.<br/>We all had variations of the line fish - tre pesca, standard, papillote and nacional - and everyone was impressed.<br/><br/>The portions are adequate, the dishes composed thoughtfully and executed well. A view across the waterfront and the Cape Ferris Wheel completes it perfectly. Would definitely come here again.<br/><br/>Book in advance as it is quite popular.

First time that I’ve been to this legendary establishment. Great atmosphere and good food. Had the seafood bisque which was rich and creamy. Would have liked a few prawns in the bisque, but good nonetheless. <br/>For mains I had the kingklip which was cooked perfectly. My partner had the prawns which I must say were exceptional and cooked perfectly.

Last Saturday night my boyfriend (now fiancé) proposed to me.<br/><br/>Keeping in mind we are from Johannesburg. The whole weekend was a suprise. On Sunday he treated me to lunch at Baia to celebrate. Upon arrival we were greeted by your amazing front of house staff and we were taken to our table. Which overlooked the Waterfront.<br/><br/>Our waiter (I can't remember his name unfortunately), was polite and attentive.<br/><br/>He explained the menu to us and what he suggested we have... now for the food. Oh My God! What an experience.<br/><br/>From the warm rolls served at the beginning to the last little bit of dessert.<br/><br/>To start I had the lobster tails in the lemon, butter and chilli sauce, there are no words I could use to describe the dish other than heaven, the meat pulled off the shells beautifully, it was buttery, super tender and super more-ish.<br/><br/>He had the calamari lobster starter, I had a tiny taste of it, the best, most tender calamari I have everything tasted. There was just enough chilli to give it a good kick.<br/><br/>Now for the mains, this was one of the most difficult decisions, the menu is so vast and every sounds out of this world.<br/><br/>We both eventually decided on the line fish and langoustine.<br/>He had the sea bass and I had the cape salmon. Both severed over potato puree, with veggies and a champagne sauce. My fiancé is not a vegetable eating person, he ate some of my veggies off my plate. Both pieces of fish were perfectly prepared. The langoustines were also to die for. I had them once before about 15-20 years ago and hadn't had before.<br/><br/>They tasted exactly as I remember, buttery, delicious and slightly sweet and as for him, I think the Johannesburg supply of langoustines needs to watch out.<br/><br/>Onto dessert, he had a Kahlua Dom Pedro and I had the trio of creme brulee. Again just wow. Perfect way to end a perfect meal. The lemon one was my favourite.<br/><br/>Thank you for making the end to our special weekend perfect. We cannot wait to come back.

We had a lovely evening. The food was AMAZING and the service was top notch! Will definitely recommend them for delicious seafood! Its a shame im not from Cape Town otherwise it would be one of my favorite spots :) <br/>

Busy restaurant, fantastic service and food, best grilled prawns and langoustine that I ever had. Deserts also very good, one of the best seafood restaurants that I have visited.
Nicola Bursnall
A colleague took us out for dinner here recently and I can confirm it’s well worth the price. <br/><br/>I had the lamb cutlets - amazing! <br/><br/>The others all raves about their seafood dishes. <br/><br/>Definitely worth a visit.

Great place to start your vacation in Cape Town! The place is huge and has an amazing view over the waterfront. Food portion is very generous! The sea food is so yummy, we tried their lobster, oysters and prawns!! I recommend trying their Lindt chocolate pudding! It is to die for!

Great view good prices hostess not so welcoming... but overall pleasant experience. It is located a bit further away from all the action but worth the walk.<br/>

An Outstanding evening at Baia. A real treat. Prawns an absolute must. Magical view of table mountain made a very romantic dinner. Won’t be forgotten quickly.

Waterfront da iyi deniz mahsulu restoranlarindan. Kingklip adinda lezzetli bir kayabaligi cesidi var. Oldukca buyuk. Ortam guzel. Servis iyi. Ortalama 40 usd civari kisibasi diyebiliriz.
Nicole
Loved this place. Seafood was amazing, especially there prawns WoW.. Prawns is a definite must order at this restaurant.. what surprised me though was even though they are a seafood restaurant there beef fillet was extremely good aswell. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and always went the extra mile. The view, especially at night was unbelievable, as you have table Mountain as a backdrop😍Would recommend this to friends and family and no doubt about returning here really soon. 👍🏼

Definitely worth a visit. It doesn't look like much but arguably some of the best seafood I've had in ages. Very attentive waiters and a great view of the harbour. Not the cheapest place around but I have paid more for worse seafood in the past.
Dave
Fantastic seafood experience.<br/>Excellent service<br/>Great ambiance <br/>Fabulous food<br/>Good wine and champagne selection<br/>Beautiful sea views<br/>Definitely recommend when is Cape Town and looking for seafood

Had a lovely dining experience. They have the best service. The best seafood platter I've ever had. A stunning view of the V&A waterfront. Had an amazing non-alcoholic cocktail "Purple Passion", would be better if it's served with crush ice. Only thing I was unhappy about was they charged us for bottled water which seemed to be tap water in a reusable glass bottle. Worth visiting again though.
Richard
First experience of Baia was disappointing although about 5 years ago. Wow, have they improved! Eaten there twice in recent months with great enjoyment; good selection of choices , excellent food, amazing and friendly, professional service, good location. Can be a bit pricey if one is not careful...
Marius Del Carme
The food tasted great, well plated too. The ambiance was exactly what I wanted. We were seated at a nice intimate dinner table for 2 at the window overlooking the V&A Waterfront. On our left we had a group of Japanese all men tourist group that toasted every 2 minutes. It was such a festive yet intimate setting.<br/>@nolinepetesen

The food and service here have always been amazing - I go there often to eat and have never been disappointed. one thing to mention - it is not a good idea to sit on the balcony in winter or when windy. they have heaters and a wind shield but it does not often help in the Cape Town weather. I would highly recommend the fillet, but seafood is a MUST when there.

One of the best dining experiences I have ever had.<br/><br/>Excellent food and the service was beyond exceptional. The server would be with us as soon as eye-contact was made.<br/><br/>He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and made excellent recommendations throughout.<br/><br/>Slightly higher prices than some of the other seafood restaurants in the surrounds, but the service and quality of food makes this a must at least once whilst in Cape Town.

Being at this restaurant was by chance as we were running late and every other restaurant closed at 10.<br/><br/>And it was an incredible experience. My cousins couldn't stop fawning about the steak they had ordered (along with the creamy mushroom sauce) and I enjoyed my baby chicken too. I just wish there was a nice peri peri sauce that could compliment well with the chicken instead of the really spicy and rather tasteless sauce (even though the waiter was gracious enough to warn me beforehand)<br/><br/>The waiter was incredible. Had great knowledge about the food and was very friendly and approachable. The starter I ordered was a rump trinchado and I honestly have never had a better trinchado in my life! <br/><br/>We had a chat with the Mozambican chef too and that was great! All in all a great experience! Wish the next time you offer other grilled whole fish too apart from Kingclip!

Having dinner here was really a treat. The service was impeccable and our server was very knowledgeable about the menu. The decor was classy and the ambiance was relaxing. I had the grilled line fish with squid and prawn tails which really tasty. For dessert we went all out trying out at least four desserts, from pecan nut pie and trio of crème brûlée to the baked vanilla pod infused cheesecake and the Lindt chocolate pudding. The pecan nut pie was amazing and everyone's favourite. The desserts were overpriced though for their portions. Other than that I had really good time. Worth another visit.

Great food...terrible service. The last time I visited this restaurant was in 2012 and I had a pleasant experience. Booked a dinner table for one. Arrived at the restaurant was seated in the lovely outside area with a beautiful view but it was just too cold for me. I had to call the front desk to ask for someone to come and assist me with a table change as the last time I was attended to by a waiter was when I was seated. Someone was sent over to my table and it seemed as though I was asking them to move mountains by asking for a table change. 10 minutes later which was now 20 minutes since i walked into the restaurant I was moved to an inside table and hadn't been offered anything drink....SHOCKER!!! I ate and drank as fast as I could and made my way out. One of the worst dining experiences I've had. The langoustines were delicious but the experience was not worth it and doesn't deserve another visit.
Nicole Van Der Watt
All I can say is over priced and incredibly mediocre. Will not be going back anytime soon. Presentation of food is not existent looks chucked on. The seafood soup wasn't too bad just overly salted. Steaks not cooked correctly mashed potato lumpy. All I can say is not impressed especially for the price tag that comes with it.
Fleur Naughton
I took a tour group here last night, the food was delicious however the service from our waiter was not up to standard. We were rushed (asking about the bill whilst eating our mains) and the napkins were removed from our lap while we were sitting there. It was a shame as I think if we had a different waiter we would've had better service.

Exquisite Service with an astonishing view of table mountain whilst indulging in wonderful fresh seafood, this restaurant is really one for the books :)

Top notch seafood at extravagant prices. This is how I would sum up Baia. It's a special occasion restaurant and at the waterfront prices are geared towards the tourists. Having said that you will never be disappointed with then food here. Service is slick and waiters well versed in the menu. They are also very good at remembering you on return visits which adds a personal touch.<br/>On this occasion I had the crab and apple salad which was out of this world, a concoction of flavors that sparked the taste buds into life with ginger, chili, fresh salad leaves, rocket and the sweet crab meat. Not only did it taste sensational but looked spectacular as well. We had a variety of starters and mains/platters. The crab main was messy but I sucked every morcel of meat out of those claws. The sauce that accompanies all the mains is the perfect match for any seafood, but they still won't give me the recipe!!! Will visit again and again.

We have heard wonderful things about this restaurant with a magnificent view of the Cape Wheel and Table Mountain. <br/><br/>Service here is of most importance and the care taken to give each table the attention and guidance needed. We were helped without a booking and told if we were out before the time the table was booked for we were more than welcome to come in! I must say I appreciate that a lot may restaurants actually send you away or just ignore you if you don't have a booking. <br/><br/>On to the food... I tried the New style sashimi as I wasn't too hungry and I must say wow heavily disappointed doesn't even do it justice. The worth vs quantity and even quality is shocking. Had much much better salmon in a much greater portion for half of the price. Sad to say this has put me off this place abit. But luckily I had my partner there and he went with the platter for one. The worth and value there came though as the crayfish was the biggest I have seen and was extremely meaty and had a great flavor as well as the langoustines and prawns were a great size.. Mmmm delish! My mom tried the mussels in white wine sauce. The sauce was creamy and thick and there were a ton of muscles. Very tasty! Must try for a starter. <br/><br/>All and all I just won't try sushi here again not value for money but I am amped to try another dish.<br/>

Attended a business dinner and it was my first time even though I've had heard good reviews from colleagues, family and friends.<br/><br/>What a magnificent view in a comfortable venue. The view captures the essence of Cape Town with Table Mountain as it's main focus and I beamed with pride with our foreign visitor at our how beautiful our city is.<br/><br/>Back to Baia.....service was impeccable. Attentive, friendly, informative but not intrusive. Our waitrons, Patrick and Richard need an award for dealing with our large table as they were on point and no delay in anything we ordered.<br/><br/>To the food....although the seafood is good and fresh I really do feel that for what we got was definitely over, over, over priced (no typo on the 'over'....just want to over emphasise the expensive menu).<br/><br/>I had a seafood bisque...not the best but good....not the rich reduced flavours of shellfish that I expected and the token prawn was overcooked. My grilled kinglip and crayfish thermidor was lovely but they neglected to bring my salad in replacement of the rice. I do find Baia to be a bit inflexible to changes on their menu which unfortunately comes from management. Now I don't often have dessert but I couldn't miss the opportunity of baked pear and preserved ginger tart. What a disappointment....it was a pear pudding (more like a cake) and ginger was non existent and overly sweet. Two spoons later I pushed it aside.<br/><br/>Overall a pleasant experience and I'll probably return with some visitors to Cape Town because of the view but otherwise as a local definitely better quality, taste and value out there.<br/><br/>

Baia is the favorite restaurant of my mate Deon. For years I've felt it's designed for tourists, and expensive. However our latest visit was so successful it's back as an option when we want quality seafood, and are prepared to pay up. <br/><br/>16th birthday, with the birthday boy dead keen on having Crayfish. We debated the merits of east coast lobster vs west coast, as well as the various platters offering combinations of lobster, langoustines, prawns, Clamato, and fish. Ultimately the boys went with 3 baby east coast lobsters, while the gal settled on a bargain combo of lobster, langoustines, and prawns. <br/><br/>Verdict was full marks for the east coast lobsters, while west coast was deemed a little dry. Langoustines got full marks. However the killer dish was a last minute order of two perlemoen starters on a large plate. Both youngsters hadn't had perlemoen before, and they moved so quickly after the first taste, that the adults got very little. It felt like watching feeding Gannets!<br/><br/>Wine by the glass, no desserts, and we were out of there with a rather large bill, but a very happy son
Cynthia
I'm a huge seafood lover, and this place does it well, fresh and perfectly prepared, with their great selection its an absolute winner. I recommend Baia to anyone who enjoys good food.

Its been a while since we were here but absolutely loved being back! The restaurant is quite big and does get its crowd. The outdoor section can get a bit chilly though. Our waiter was an absolute pleasure and food was great. The meals are presented well and taste great. We opted for chicken livers, calamari and a lobster tail starter. All delicious. Mains were the fish platter, crayfish kingklip thermodore and peri peri chicken. The freshness and quality of the seafood was amazing. Thumbs up on the yummy tomoto rice. We were too stuffed for desserts. This place is pricey and borders on fine dining but lacks the sofistication due to size and placement. The wine selection is also impressive. All in all still a favourite of mine!
Kashma
Delish food at a restaurant with an amazing view. <br/>Food is pricey but worth every cent. The quality of food is of fine dining standard. Highly recommend this restaurant when at the V&A! <br/>
The Authentic Girl
I will never forget how succulent and delicious the calamari was that I ordered at Baia Seafood restaurant. Quite a fine dining experience, the service was excellent and the waitrons was attentive. The views overlooking Cape Town is magnificent.<br/><br/>But back to the food, the calamari was soft and tender! Seasoned correctly, with the herb and lemon flavours coming through. Oh what a marriage in food heaven, paired with a glass of Chardonnay.<br/><br/>I would highly recommend this restaurant for a fine dining experience, in the Waterfront (it doesn't feel like you in the Waterfront though) with your date!

One of the best seafood experiences you can have in cape town, the freshness of the ingredients and the manner in which they are prepared always leave me feeling satisfied. on my most recent trip i had the baby king clip and it was cooked to perfection. the accompanying vegetables were a tad bland but the fish was the main event and it duly delivered spectacularly. a true summer treat with a great atmosphere. for dessert i had the creme caramel which was all kinds of yummy.

As we are fast approaching season I will list all my favourite spots in and around Cape Town, the ones a have been at, and the ones I will go back to and also a heads up to those to avoid. BAIA is stunning, silver service, top notch venue and exceptional food. A tourists hot spot.
Deee
Baia had been on my bookmark list for almost a year and I am so glad that I can finally tick it off. For our starter we ordered the calamari to share (the pesto and chilli option) and for our main meals we both ordered the langoustines. The freshness of the ingredients, the size of the langoustines and the flavour in the meals blew us away. Overall, this was one of the best seafood experiences I've had in Cape Town. I will definitely be back here soon.

Really great place. Very big and spacious. But the view is just to die for. The crab salad was so tasty with apple pieces, just divine. Then the lobster platter was painfully good to eat. Was full but kept going. The chocolate fondant, wow ... Thats all I will say. Great place.
Natalie21j
I've been more than once and the food NEVER disappoints. It is pricey but well worth it. Although the wait staff is professional it wouldn't hurt for them to be a little nicer. I would like to recommend something but everything is delicious.
Chetna Black
Spectacular restaurant at the Waterfront , with incredible service. Specialized in seafood, but I enjoy the meat dishes as well. The view is gorgeous and the restaurant spacious. The food is good, but it is overpriced - I just feel that there is nothing special in terms of how the dishes are prepared. But everything is fresh and portion sizes are good too. Worth a visit for the setting and the service as well as good food.
Kyle Dunn
We went for dinner at Baia for a birthday celebrations.<br/>The service was good; very welcoming and attentive.<br/>The food seemed to lack something. I had the salmon, prepared medium. It was good but not amazing. The sauce seems a bit sloppy and runny. Definitely not worth the price it was. However, when dessert came, it saved my meal. I had the trio of creme brûlée, which was up my alley.<br/>Overall, average. Prepare to fork out quite a bit to feel a bit underwhelmed.
Candicevietri
Great service and awesome food. Worth every cent. We had the trinchado for starters, east coast sole and baby kingklip for mains, and we shared the Lindt chocolate cake and pear and ginger tart for dessert.
Miguel Dos Santos
Baia is situated right on the waterfront so it comes with a really nice atmosphere. I found the service to be a bit slow so the gap between starters and mains was quite long meaning a loss of appetite. I found the food overpriced for what you get. The portions are really small compared to the price. My prawns tasted really great although a bit chewy. The prawn curry at our table was a big hit. The Lindt chocolate dessert was a winner for me
Noemi Dos Santos
Was invited by friends to eat at this restaurant. The views were great, could see out onto the waterfront. Food was good but not what I expected for the price, plating not that creative. We had prawn curry, seafood platter, trinchado. Found the service was a bit slow. Thought it a bit overpriced overall.but perhaps it's because it's on the waterfront and one is paying for the view?
Annie Hodes
Right on the water's edge, such a treat and the perfect place for lunch. Love the panoramic harbour views, the food is delish, the service attentive, the wine list fab and the fresh sea air intoxicating
Olivia Jones
Visited Baia a while ago for a family do, I was blown away with the platter I ordered, the crayfish was top notch, the flavours just tantalize your tastebuds. The cocktails are divine and manager was on top form that night, service was fantastic. Very impressed!
Jamie Jacobs
The photo does not do it justice, but their trio of creme brulee is magnificent. I have yet to try their specialty: seafood, but I intend on trying a meal there very soon. The trio of creme brulee comes in three unique flavours: chocolate, coffee, and orange. These combinations may not sound appetizing but they were delicious! I would recommend going here for great service and equally great food. Definitely have to return to this place.
Waseem Dawood
baia is one of the best restaurants i've been to, in cape town. the service was really good and attentive. we had the Chateaubriand, snails, creme brulee and some beautiful chocolate dessert that i cant recall the name of. the only reason that they dont have a perfect score is because of their virgin cocktails which i found watery and lacked flavour. In the top two steaks i have ever had.
Kazeka Talisa Angelica Mbekeni
I went there with my family and friends this weekend. I ordered seafood from the menu (as this a seafood restaurant) and it was so good. The service was so amazing! Our waitress was always there when we needed her and she gave very good advice on what to have on the menu. It was a great experience and I will definitely be going back in the near future. (:
Bonnie Stuchbury
We went here for our anniversary dinner and the food was great. The service is flawless and the views breath taking. It is expensive but worth it for a spoil. <br/><br/>Our patters were large and tasty. I love the langostines!
Li Yanni
The seafood soup is not nice . The seafood is average . Service is outstanding. View is spectacular . Expensive than average as well . Got nothing else to say , but is has to be 140 characters .
Tiyaarah Cloete
Baia has always been a favorite of mine. It's an absolutely beautiful restaurant. They specialize in seafood but their chateaubriand is to die for. It's really one of cape town's best restaurants and worth every single penny. (Oh and their trio of creme brûlée- bloody excellent is an understatement)
Toinette Tobias
The food is beyond devine at Baia. What is so great is how fresh and full of flavour each dish is. Staff are friendly and service is wonderful. The venue is beautiful and is truly a great place to treat yourself.
Jay
Maybe we went on a bad day but we really didn't enjoy our food at all. We had the calamari lobster starter, both calamari and lobster was rubbery and tasteless. My bf had the peppercorn steak for mains, also bland. I had the linefish, squid tubes and prawns for mains; was honestly one of the worst seafood dishes I've ever eaten. Was very disappointed, the only nice things was the view and our funny waiter
Nick Bizos
An above standard sea food spot at the waterfront. Normally we are hesitant to eat out at Waterfront as these are often "tourist traps", but Baia definitely exceeded expectations. <br/><br/>The seafood was fresh, with the platters standing out. The calamari main was tasty, and the rice and roast vegetable sides were good. Dessert was world class, with the semifreddo and Lindt chocolate pudding being truly delicious. <br/><br/>The waiter was attentive and helpful, although he did forget a coffee order. All in all, a slightly expensive but worthwhile visit to a high quality seafood restaurant.

Visited Baia for dinner a few weeks ago.. the restaurant captures the most picturesque views of the famous table mountain lit by a gorgeous sunset. As a newbie to seafood, I enjoyed the prawn platter which was bursting with flavour with vegetable rice and hot chips. My friend and I were kindly accommodated without a reservation which was very lucky as this restaurant is always fully booked. Great dinner place.<br/><br/>My second visit to Baia did not disappoint. Went for a lunch with couple of friends. The restaurant was semi packed in the area which we were seated at with only what seemed like one waitress to serve and attend to us all. That was the only disappointment otherwise the service was great as the waitress was very friendly. The food as always was divine, we tried the squid plate for starters as they were out of mussels unfortunately. For mains we shared the prawn platter, tiger prawns and the Portuguese styled chicken which we definitely enjoyed. I would definitely recommend the prawn platter. The desserts were definitely amazing, we shared the chocolate fondant which was a little too rich but still delicious; creme caramel and pecan nut pie that were amazing.<br/>

The food was absolutely fantastic ! It's expensive but worth it! Good sized portions and attention to detail made this a good overall experience. Pity though the service wasn't up to the same level as the food

Great dining experience altogether. It can get a bit cramped during lunch time though but other than that I have no complaints. The food was of a great quality (it should be if you're charging such extravagant prices), the seafood was fresh and tasty. The portions are relatively small unless you're ordering starters , mains and dessert. You HAVE to try the Lindt Chocolate pudding for dessert, my life was changed after that!!! <br/>The waiters are fantastic, always topping up glasses and uber polite. I just feel they give too much information at a time, they should wait until<br/>the customer asks about specials rather than jumping right into it (but that's my opinion anyway!).

When it comes to location and setting then this restaurant has it all. Easy to access with great food options. The staff is professional and really make you feel at home. Excellent food and wine menu and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back as it was some of the best seafood we enjoyed.

Had a dinner last night. Don't get me wrong the food was good, but the waiter was overplaying it. Recommended a wine that was not particularly so good and explained the menu in a way that was difficult to understand. In my opinion harbor house had better food and more service personal. Would not go back, much better options available in Cape Town

It doesn't get better than this. Best place to eat in the entire world. Classy beyond believe. Extensive menu. Superb service. Great views. Decent pricing.

Great seafood. Love their langoustines, and crayfish combo. Bit pricey but the quality of the food and service is second to none. Service can be slow at times.

I have no words to describe how amazing my first time at Baia was. From the food to the service all round fabulous!!!! You would think they are quite expensive, but I'd pay over and over as the value and quality of the food was incredible. Delicious from starter to dessert.

Love Baia for me this is the best stop for Sea food in Cape Town. The waiters are excellent and on a beautiful day sitting outside over looking the harbor with that fresh sea smell just adds to the experience. I almost always have the Langoustines but love it when they have Alaskan king crab and Walvis bay oyster on the menu. They also boast an amazing wine list

What can I say? Oh what a meal...it was the best on this stay! For start King Crab Leg...fresh and sweet, the main was a first...Lobster with butter on oven with the best French fries and lagostines. For last the sweet...trio creme Brule.... Just Amazing! Will I get back? Definitely!

This has got to be one of Cape Town's top restaurants. Top class food, location and service every time. <br/><br/>Today's lunch was amazing: for starters I had the calamari lobster which has great heat from the chilli dressing and a cool refreshing salad on the side. It was my first time trying it, and definitely a winner. <br/><br/>For mains I decided to keep it small, so instead of ordering a big platter I opted for the langoustine gratin. It's langoustines with cream spinach and Thermidor sauce yumminess all on a big field mushroom. Always a winner. <br/><br/>And for my favourite course I went for the trio of creme brûlée - a trio of chocolate/coffee, vanilla and orange brûlée. I was not too keen on the orange, but was pleasantly surprised when I tried it. The best part of the dessert has to be the size - just the right amount.

Definitely the best seafood I have had! I had the baby langoustines on line fish with saffron sauce, which was out of this world, while the rest of the table all had fish platters that were massive with crayfish, prawns, langoustines, calamari and line fish. The food is expensive, but totally worth it for a special occasion.

Incomparable. Simply incomparable! 💜🌴🌍😇<br/><br/>This is hands down the BEST high-end #seafood emporium in Cape Town...and the #Trinchado starter is legendary...le-gen-WAIT-for-it..DARY!! 🙌🙌🙌<br/><br/>Service can be spotty and a TAD...arrogant...but this is not always the case. The views are stunning and the energy v upbeat and vibey...so DEF @jamescapetown FAVE! 😇🌴🌍💜

Top seafood restaurant. Very fancy. The lobsters, langoustines and prawns are superb. Kingklip is also good. If you dining during the day make sure to get a table in the outside area... beautiful view of tablemountain. The service wasn't excellent but average.... perhaps because I looked young and was not a hoity toity foreigner...? Im afraid they get a 4 for that.

Beautifully situated, with views of the V and A harbour. the food is consistently good and fresh. Wine list is standard and of a high quality. No craft beer is offered, a pity as would complement the high quality seafood. Slight downside are the basic levels of service; basics are missed but otherwise acceptable. Service level is 3 out of 5.

Dinner at this fine restaurant met my expectations. From the superb location to the enticing ambience, this made for the start of an experience. Fresh seafood, well seasoned and spiced left my tastebuds alive. Very friendly and efficient staff. A must if you are at the waterfront

Baia is a family favourite of ours, the food never disappoints and neither does the service. The views from the restaurant are spectacular when dining late afternoon/evening, perfect for a date😍<br/><br/>I always order the prawns as they are my favourite. The menu has a wide range of foods, from seafood to poultry to the different meats. Definitely choices for everyone.

Honestly quite a disappointing dinner. Their reputation as well as their exorbitant prices suggested that our experience would be otherwise. The ambience and view, as well as our waitress were all fantastic though. Our party had a range of beef, fish, shellfish and vegetarian dishes. The kingklip was the stand out meal of the evening -perfectly cooked and so delicious! The most prominent disappointments were the steaks. They were not cooked to order and the 'exotic mushroom' side only comprised of button mushrooms. Various vegetables on the dishes were undercooked and under seasoned. We were all expecting a better quality of food. We won't be hurrying back!

Excellent will be returning soon great views over the harbour , will be taking the family and using the venue for corp functions rated high on my list

Amazing restaurant. The waiter was very attentive. I had the special languistine starter, followed by the trio of game and the chocolate fondant. The food was all really great with a beautiful view. (Quite pricey)

Went there a good few years ago had amazing fresh seafood but the piece de resistance for me was the chocolate fondant maybe because it was the very first one I had, I measure all the fondants to that memory, not sure if they still make it.

One of my favourite restaurants around hands down! The food is always consistently delicious and I am yet to be disappointed. Besides the beautiful decor and wonderful views (if seated at the enclosed terrace), the service is phenomenal. Waiters are always polite, accommodating and go the extra mile. Managers and owners are always visible ensuring that everything is running smoothly. The entire dining experience is worth every penny.

We often go to Baia ..Best seafood Restuarant in Cape Town. Staff are super friendly , king klip fillet is delicious. My kids love the king klip.
Cape Town Foodies
A great seafood restaurant where I had one of the most delicious soles!!  It's at the Waterfront so can get busy but it is upstairs so there is a lovely view over the harbour and of Table Mountain.  When we went the smoking section was on the window side with the best views, but perhaps this has changed.

Great place. Good views if put on the terrace. Waiter (Sean) was never far away! We had the shellfish platter and the calamari. Very yummy dishes. To add - Saronsberg Viognier - amazing wine.<br/>For dessert, cheesecake and crepes .. The cheesecake was ordinary but tasty, the crepes were amazing!!!
Frankie Bangles Ben
This is the best Seafood in Cape Town (in my opinion). Unless you're eating seafood on the West Coast this is as fresh as it gets. Atmosphere is great, a little fancy for my taste but the food and service was great! The langoustines are other-worldy!
Phoebe Kondylis
Really one of the most excellent sea food restaurants. It is always full and not hard to see why. The service is amazing, the food is always fresh and tasty, and the setting is superb with breathtaking views of the mountain and harbour.
Bronwyn Coltman
Definitely one of the more decadent seafood restaurants out there! Their seafood is spectacular and I would recommend you have a dish that includes some kind of shellfish like the langoustine or lobster as it really is their specialty! The waiters are so well informed and give you educated suggestions if you're not sure what to pick from their vast menu.
Peet Langeveldt
Service and food always good. Massive in size, don't have any idea how many tables they have(a lot), but they know how to make it run smoothly.<br/>One of the best places in CT for seafood.
Grant & Sam
Always a winner. The seafood platter is always good. The mushroom-lobster gratin starter sounds better than it is, and we recommend that you skip it. Service is consistently good too.

First things first.<br/>The place is about the most expensive restaurant I have dined at in Cape Town.Dinner for two has not come in under R1500 before.<br/>however I must stress that there are certain things here that have made the experience more pleasant than others.<br/><br/>The standard of service is excellent. Not going to fault that.<br/>The wine we ordered whilst very expensive, was to become our new favourite (for when we can afford it) and the range of seafood is superb.<br/><br/>These people must go through more lobster and crayfish than just about anyone in town. So they know what they are doing. You will most likely be dining in and around a good deal of foreign guests and tourists here to try our fancy shellfish etc.<br/><br/>the meal is lovely. the view is superb. but I can't help but feel that I am not supposed to be there. It feels like its for politicians and tourists who speak german first and english second.<br/><br/>that is not a criticism. Just an understanding that I would probably feel more at home elsewhere.   If you want a fancy meal. fine.<br/>if you want to impress a date...fine<br/>if you want to eat as well as this elsewhere....not a problem.  There are countless places in town that will give you a standard of food as good as it....but just not with the same level of "oh look Table Mountain and a german man in a khaki photographers vest"The average age of the guests is probably around 65.  Its the kind of place you go to once you have retired and cashed in some investments.<br/><br/>Food gets 3 stars <br/>But the service get 4.5<br/>

I've eaten here several times and am yet to have anything close to a bad experience. I highly recommend this restaurant - delicious food, great service and awesome location.

Upmarket? I beg to differ, they should have a sign outside saying they'll only cater to you if you're foreign or much older. My best friend and I decided to go to Baia for my 21st birthday, it was the worst experience ever. We were seated right by the door, and after we were seated it took more than ten minutes for a waiter to approach us to take our order, however, two other tables of people who were seated after us was seen to promptly and even had their food brought to them before we did. After we placed our order, we waited almost 45 minutes before our food was brought to us. I was highly disappointed with the service at this so called up market, fine dining restaurant. All your customers should be treated equally regardless of age or nationality, they wouldn't be at your restaurant if they could not afford to eat there.

Went for my Auntie Linda's 60th birthday. Her favourite place when she is over from the UK. Never disappoints to be honest. I had the starter chicken livers which were lovely. No main as I was late to join. Oh, fantastic service by the way. Always. I had the ginger sponge with custard and honeycomb ice cream for dessert. Yum! See pic ;)

If I can put a 10/10 rating I would .My partner and I have gone there once ,loved it .service is of 5 star quality hence the 5 star pricing .I recommend this place for first dates ,for romantic dinners ,anniversaries in fact for any romantic evening .Has a great sea view .

Amazing view over Cape Town harbour, professional service, exceptional quality of food. Probably the best seafood in the world giving Pigalle a real run for their money. Wine prices are heavy and up to 6x that of estate prices. Surely catering for overseas visitors who pays in dollars or euro's. Thus, making it unaffordible for the middle-class guy from around Cape Town. Nevertheless a fantastic experience!
Big Al
Good professional service, good cuisine - prices high but matched with good quality and service. Wine selection excellent but matching high prices. Not the place for a quick bite. Venue very pleasant with views onto the harbour.
