Review Origin Coffee Roasting - Cape Town Central

Buyisiwe Shongwe
Really cool moody spot. Great for breakfast and brunch. Trendy yet family friendly. Fantastic coffee!! Best BLAT bagel and “corrected coffees”! Although the staff is pleasant, the service is pretty average.
Marija Koteva
Might be one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Although simple and unpretentious - eggs classics, it is close to perfect. The bread is fresh out of the oven, thick cut with so much flavour, soft with crunchy crust easy to cut through... The bagels, also fresh out of the oven, are just amazing. The ladies doing the service are great, the guy managing the seating was a bit rude and nosy, but not important enough to lower the 5star rating for this place.

Wow! What a great café. The roasts are extra ordinary. And the food is really well made. I would recommend this place to any specialty coffee lover.

Great place to have coffee. Vibes are amazing. Had a coffee and croissant while I was in the area. Service was quick, food was good. An incentive to visit again with a bigger group. Would recommend to all caffeine lovers Edit: Went there again on a morning last weekend, ground floor for busy hence made myself comfortable on the first floor table which also is a workplace for the roasters, packaging staff etc. Tried their Vaccum pour V60/64 which smelled strong but tasted mild with mostly fruity notes, I loved it and it is something that two people can easily share. Also had plain omelet with sourdough bread, it was one of the most delicious breakfast I had, not sure what went into the preparation for the Omelet but I would definitely recommend you try it whenever you're here for breakfast. Again a wonderful experience, I'm revising my rating from 4 to 5 stars as it has been an overall amazing experience in the couple of visits I've been here.

This spot in Cape Town is truly one of my favourites for coffee. It has a fantastic ambience and cosy seating, making it perfect for students and laptop users. I wholeheartedly recommend it. My go-to drinks are Americano and V60, and they're delicious. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming. I had the pleasure of meeting Fiki, one of the staff members, and we instantly became friends. Her professionalism stood out as she guided me through some excellent coffee grinder options to buy for home use.

Great place for coffee and brunch. + the almond croissant was delicious. My boyfriend had the mushroom toast and it is now one of his favorite breakfast/brunch dishes + coffee was really good + the place looks nice and cozy and the waiters were very friendly Note: it took a bit longer to get the food compared to other brunch places in Cape Town. About 25 minutes I think so it was really ok, but probably not the best if you are in a hurry. Note: if you want to work from here, their policy recommends to keep the laptop time under 60 minutes. Not a clue if they enforce this somehow, but just something to keep in mind maybe.

Good coffee, amazing breakfast and brunch. I tried several things, they were all so good! My favorite so far were the Turkish eggs, but the Shakshuka and the omelette are also very good. I love the location and the staff, always so kind!
Richard Morris
Great architecture and ambiance between old architectural building and modern coffee shop. I love popping here usually for a takeaway but it so worth taking in the aromas and hanging around indoors to take in the ambiance of this trendy Coffee joint.
Jorge GD
Great place for coffee and brunch. They have v60s with different types of beans (went for Ethiopia and didn't regret it). The architecture of the building is cool too

My boyfriend and I did the three hour barista class with Winston! It was such an amazing coffee experience! We loved it so much and highly recommend it: great venue, friendly staff, beautiful design, delicious coffee, fantastic trainer, free coffee perks, good learning, fun morning and we left with some serious coffee accessory envy :) Well done Origin and Winston! We might come back for the one on one full day course :)
Maria Sivak
Wonderful coffee, great service! I bought a few types of beans online, and they are superb! Balanced, clean cup! All the questions I asked about the roasting were answered professionally and to the point! Thank you so much! I am, definitely, your new customer :)

Best Coffee in Cape Town by Far, the Baristas are great, the food is great and the Vibe is Dope Definitely the coffee shop for true coffee lovers!

Origin is Coffee. Any and every type of coffee brewing methods is to be found here. Well except for instant! On arrival I was greeted by the familiar smell of caffeine and the sounds of all different types of machines whirring, bzzzz-ing and brrrrrrr-ing. The selection was wide and varied and I ended up having a Turkish Coffee, as explained by the cashier; a traditional slow drip Turkish brew. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. It looked like a regular double espresso except it had a brown coating on top. Turns out that top layer is gritty bits of insoluble coffee. I was fine with a little bit of grit because 'Hey it's traditional!' However it turned out that a 3rd of the cup was filled with this gritty coffee bit stuff. It was like drinking a cup of French Press that doesn't have a plunger. I'm not sure if that's how it's meant to be but I guess these guys know what they're doing so I trust that they adhere to the exact traditional methodology. So I guess we can blame the Turks then for producing such dank coffee with bits in. Overall a lovely experience and would recommend it to anyone that thinks they're a bedroom barista.

Amazing selection of coffee, great service with so much knowledge about coffe, great place to sit and relax.
Kristina Oleinik
It doesn't matter that your coffee was good, guys, I anyway will put 1 star because your waiter with dreadlocks was harassing me today. He told he will come to my home and other silly crap and I was trying to run away from there quickly after I got my coffee because he was continue so being In rush and stress after that I dropped my coffee when got outside. Yeap. And he said:" oh you have a ring that's why...". No, I would say "no" even if I wouldn't have ring because it was very unprofessional, because I went there just to buy a coffee. He probably thought that I am a foreigner and will never come back there that's why he behaved this way, but i am your loyal customer and go to Origin minimum twice a week and never seen something like that. I am so upset. now will be always afraid to go there alone...

Een van die beste koffie ervarings wat ek nog in Kaapstad gehad het. Ek het 'n review van Origin geskryf by baardbekkoffie co za! Awesome gechat met Zakhele wat my koffie gemaak het. Top Klas!

Every time an expirience! Love it!

Very rexaled enviroment, good value for money. Excellent service. Staff very friendly. I will be returning. Thank you it's really lived up to my expectations.

Best coffee joint in Cape Town. Wish they started in Copenhagen.

Love the atmosphere at Origin, and the lighting. Had a wonderful Manager handling our short brunch. I ordered the Mushrooms on Toast which was beautifully flavorful however the brioche was a bit too soggy from the cream and the dish was cold (so I gathered it had been sitting a while before served). Would visit again for the coffee.

Cosy ambiance. Friendly staff. Great location. Second time back @ Origin. First time I had the eggs benedict when they served it on spinach & big brown mushrooms. Delicious but sadly no longer on the menu. Opted to try the Vietnamese Pork Noodle Bowl.. and was absolutely blown away. The flavour fusion was spot on. One of the tastiest meals I've had out in a while. Hubby was also blown away. We will be back.

Food: 3
Ambiance: 4
Service: 2

Coffee done right!!! Great morning hangout spot... toasted bagel with a thick smear of cream cheese hit the spot and fortina cheese sandwich ain’t so bad either...

stoked to be sitting Origin Coffee Roasting today, it was my very first time . I always wanted to go ,but the place is always packed. I managed to get in today ,super worth the wait. I experienced one good morning. totally friendly crowd and everything was just wonderful. I enjoyed the food and my matcha cuppa. Amazing to see how coffee was being brewed and how many different choices I had. wow!! super worth the wait. I can't wait to try out your other foods and coffee soon. very soon.

THE SERVICE IS SUCH A LETDOWN

I’ve never had such putrid service from a coffee shop.

When I arrived, I was approached by the waiter and asked if I wanted to order anything. Because I was waiting for someone to join I opted to wait for them to arrive. About 5min later they arrived and the waiter came to take our order...

He then told us we couldn’t order anything from the kitchen as it was closed and closes 1hr before actual closing. Uhm, why not tell me that when I arrived? I would have gone elsewhere. Nevertheless, we just ordered croissants from the bakery section.

I then tried to order an iced coffee and wanted it with crushed ice - only to be met with another excuse of how the ice crushing machine was at the Biscuit Mill that day. Really!?

Our waiter was way more invested in his hair and waving it around than he was actually doing his job. No help.

The cherry on the top was when our bill was just thrown on the table and a different waiter standing next to our table with a card machine, when we hadn’t even asked for it! We were literally mid-conversation, and we looked up and asked if we must pay the bill now. We weren’t even finished! The waiter then said they wanted to close. Is this how they treat customers? I looked at him and told him how rude he was being, to which he sighed and just walked off.

Staff were sweeping around us, literally watching us and wanting us to leave. The waiter came a second time for the bill to be paid, this time the rush was that they wanted to cash up.

The whole experience was tragic. The staff have a lot to learn about customer service. Just some advice: your restaurant / bar / bakery or whatever you have closes when the last customer leaves. The customer’s experience should be the same regardless of when they are visiting your establishment, 5min after opening or 10min before closing.

Now I'll always love this place because this is where I met my partner, I remember choosing a loose leaf tea and then waiting for the timer for it to "soak", the smell of coffee, the cuteness of the place :)
Zahraacachalia
Lovely setting with really delicious wholesome food.
I had a Vietnamese Coffee and fried eggs with croissants and it was delicious.
Service was a bit slow but it was a public holiday and extremely full so I suppose that's an exception.
Recommend for a good breakfast/Brunch.
Giorea1984
Love the deco, service sometimes is up and down but croissants are good and if you manage to find the right blend with the proper extraction method coffee is really good. They probably offer the widest options on coffees all over ct
Carmen Katz
Not only did they get both orders wrong, but we were not checked on once and they forgot about fixing the second meal. Good food origin, but not great when it’s cold. We only received a very half hearted apology when we received the bill. Disappointing :(
Karabo Mokgoko
A good insight into coffee roasting and different types of coffees around the world. The tasting was a good experience. Not only taste but smell, sight and insight. They have the best coffee and pastries!
Zakariyya Gardee
Staff really knows their stuff. Very friendly, and and they make an excellent cup of coffee. Well worth a visit. There's a reason some of SA's top Baristas work here
Richard
Well done you guys. For what you are trying to do I can't fault you. Great coffee, interesting, tasty and innovative menu and great service. And all quite affordable. One of my favorites and not only because it's close to where we live...
Aletha Jeftha
This place does a mean breakfast! I can understand why it's close to impossible to find a table on weekend mornings (be sure to book!). Along with my breakfast I ordered a Siphon coffee - I was looking for something strong to wake me up. It was good coffee, but the brew was way too strong for me. Their teas are also beautifully presented and they have quite a large variety that one normally only finds at tea houses or high-teas. Will definitely return.
Christoffel Goosen
GEM OF A SPOT. Definitely best breakfast I have ever had in my life. It was spicy but the PERFECT kind of spicy. Spicy enough to be called spicy but does not kill your mouth. It was so much food I had to take away, because of this I would recommend having portion options (maybe a smaller sized option and then keeping the current portion for people who eat huge breakfasts).

They seem to give their coffee a lot of focus, and waiter advised us well on which one to pick (since there were so many options). The waiter explained which beans go best with which filtering methods and how it affects the flavours. I'm not much of a coffee connoisseur so I can't comment on the coffee much. However as someone who never has black coffee, I had it here and loved it.

The service is very good, waiters are always alert and very friendly.

I would definitely recommend this as my favourite breakfast spot.

Will be back for some lunch and update this post.

Aahh. What more would you ever need regarding coffee. Fantastic and very well trained staff. Brilliant coffee and a great atmosphere. We didn't have any of the lovely sweet treats they sell, but the brownies looked like they would make me feel much better about myself.
Bebz H
They offer delicious freshly squeezed juices. The eggs Benedict was very good (bacon was crispy, eggs were cooked to perfection, hollandaise sauce was one of the best iv ever tasted). Their freshly baked goods (such as croissants) are great too! Great breakfast spot!
Pusm
One of the best coffee in Cape Town. Cool and spaceful interior. I met the owner who's passionate and very knowledgeable on what quality coffee should be. It was actually a learning experience to have a chat with him. Their teas are also very good. Perfect for a break or a quick breakfast to start the day with quality coffee.
Josh Rosenberg
Understaffed and VERY limited stock. Had to go for my 3rd choice breakfast. First time here, very disappointed. Will not be returning. Waste of time and money
Ayrton Da Silva
Poor service, long waits and staff who don't have a clue. Falling apart when it gets busy 😔 was excited to visit. Left disappointed. Long waits for drinks, orders etc.
Ecstutor
The coffee is outstanding, but service was poor yesterday. We waited for a very long time for our very basic order and the one item was forgotten completely. After reminding the waiter, he eventually brought our cake; by which time our coffee and bagels were finished.
Chris Rafael
First impressions, I didn't know there was so much to know about coffee. The coffee menu is extensive and covers every method of coffee preparation out there and there is a vast selection of types of coffee. I decided to leave my flat white up to the professionals. I will have to come back and educate myself with a tour ! Besides coffee there is also a wide selection of loose leaf teas which is just fantastic. When my flat white arrived it was strong and had a wonderful honey aroma. The micro foam needs a bit of work as it started to break up even before I could get a picture.

As always if there is Eggs Benedict on the menu so you got to know I'll be ordering it. The eggs were perfectly poached (big well done) and the ample hollandaise sauce was full of flavor and I liked the lemon in there. What would make this particular Benedict shine is if it was on an English muffin instead of the brioche bun and if there was some rocket just to get some of that pepper punch.

Decided I needed sweet things in my life after breakfast and ended up having the lemon yogurt cake. It was just wonderful. Not too sweet, perfectly baked and the tart lemon to sweet ratio is just spot on. Yum

Overall a great experience. The service was fast and the waiters extremely friendly and always ready to offer advice on the range of coffees they make. The setting is slick and minimal take on industrial chic. I'm particularly a fan of the wood and steel tables.
Barend Jakobus Van Wyk
Called one of the best coffee roasters in the country for a very good reason...! Love the vibe... the interior is awesome... the people are amazing... everything that goes good with coffee... they have covered!
Abdusamad Sidar
Great coffee. Very nice vibe at the main store. Even completed an introduction to coffee course a ew years back.

The variety of coffees are diverse and preparation is spot on every time. My definition of well prepared is that I can drink it immediately and it's at the perfect temperature, full rich taste with no burn.
Sara
We tried the coffee trio tasting board today and we're not really that impressed. First off it took about 30 minutes to make (I've never waited this long for coffee) and the coffee shop was only about 1/3 full. It also took very long to catch the waiters attention for some milk and we ended up going to the counter to ask for it ourselves. Our waiter was friendly though. The coffee itself was very strong for our tasting but we really enjoyed the cappuccino.
Riani Deacon
One if the best coffees I had, vibrant vibe and delicious well prepared breakfast! It was busy on the Sunday morning but we never felt neglected by the waiter, but the service could improve.
Luke Simmonds
Never seem to be disappointed here. Coffee is probably one of the top in the Western Cape.
Service is quick, staff always friendly.
For a roastery, the food is a huge surprise. Thoroughly enjoy every visit. Otto Bam

Still the best coffee in Cape Town and their menu is great too.

Their eggs Benedict is always a winner.

Service can be a little slow sometimes and the venue itself is a little dark, but other than that it's a great café
Nevan
Terrible service Origin Team, this will second time I visited your establishment and walked out due to lack of service. Had to ask to be seated, still waiting for a menu.
Rita Van Eck
After years I finally made it to Origin and it was such a cool experience.
Our waitress was so friendly and helpful, she even took us on a tour of the roastery.

The staff all know a lot about coffee, they have unbridled passion for it, and the coffee’s good. It’s real good.
Different brewing processes make Origin a must-visit for any coffee enthusiast. I’ll be back soon!
Jager Sisters
Origin have a great coffee selection and their baristas really know their craft. I really enjoyed the Colombian naturally processed coffee we had as syphon. Also tasted and enjoyed a pour over made with a Guatemalan bean. Their breakfasts are also really tasty and they serve hearty, but not too big, portions. The hollandaise on the eggs benedict was really good. It's a bustling restaurant with friendly staff and definitely worth a visit.
Jacques
Love the coffee! Very trendy little coffee shop. I enjoy to meet friends here or to just have a cup of coffee on my own. The food is also good.
Gabriella
My score is purely based on the coffee which one can't fault due to the many flavours & methods they offer.
When visiting there for breakfast one morning being a vegetarian the only option for me was the health breakfast which on the day wasn't something I really felt like so I had a look through the menu & found the "decadent grilled cheese sandwich" however it was the part of the menu that was only served after 11:30. So I called the waiter over & explained that I only could have one option (being vegetarian that doesn't eat eggs) on the breakfast menu so would it possible to order from the "lunch" menu. He went off to speak to the manager & came back saying no sorry they can't make that "you know how chefs are" (umm no I don't) which I was shocked about but what shocked me even more is when he said why don't I just do the DIY breakfast using the EXACT same ingredients as the "decadent grilled cheese sandwich" which when broken down by price worked out to over R10 more. Needless to say we finished our coffee & went & had breakfast somewhere else.
Raz Siphelele Mseleku
Sadly a very disappointing experience. Went on a busy morning on the weekend which we'd expect a bit of backlog. However the coffees was mediocre after taking a while and never had I waited that long for food in my life. Breakfast took over an hour to come and was way below satisfactory. Thus we returned the food and had to leave after having wasted more than an hour and a half of our morning. Maybe it was once off but was 1st and last time, haven't been back since then 2 years ago.
Jacky&Lisa
Origin coffee is a great artisanal coffee shop located in the heart of Cape Town. They roast their coffee on site and even provide tours through to their roasters.
They have a wide selection of coffee beans to choose from and an overwhelming number of brewing methods to accompany them.
On arrival we took a seat at the communal table and we were soon greeted with a bottle of water and two glasses. We both started with a simple latte, which were served in gigantic mugs. The coffee shots were well pulled and the milk perfectly steamed. The latte was on the milky side, which is to be expected when served in such big mugs.
We then followed it up with two poppy seed bagels with smoked salmon. The bagels were fresh and were served with a generous amount of smoked salmon. The cream cheese was not very evenly spread throughout the bagel which was a slight let down.
For a place which puts so much attention to detail to their amazing coffees, you'd expect the same from the food. All in all, Origin Coffee is a nice place to enjoy some coffee with a simple menu for a light meal.
Heidi Arenstein
Terrible service and attitude - place smelt of burned baking - extraction non existent/ more waiters than customers and service still bad - food we ordered never actually came - won't be back anytime soon..
Ling
Terrible lackluster service. Decided to leave as not worth the poor attitude. A true let down in the mother city because of uninspired staff.
Jamie Roller
Best coffee in the CBD, with loads of options. Food is hit-and-miss; sometimes you can get the best eggs Benedict and other times you'll be disappointed. Service is also sketchy... because it's so busy, sometimes the waiters seem to forget you are there. Otherwise, it's a great setting and always busy.
Suitcases And Lattes
Coffee selection here is great and the menu options are good too. The reason for the average rating is the really terrible service I received earlier today. I asked for Ice water for the table and the waiter brought us tap water in a bottle that was not cold. I then asked for ice and he said that the restaurant doesn't have ice. I was confused and asked how the iced coffee is made then and he just looked at me and said they have no ice and if I wanted ice cold water I must order the still water. So after being a bit annoyed at this point I said I'll have the still water. The still water was the same temperature as the tap water. I was already annoyed at this point because how can a restaurant not have ice and then send out still water that is not cold. I couldn't take the waiters attitude anymore after ordering coffee and just moved to another table with the hope that I could enjoy the service of another waiter. When the bill came they erroneously charged me for 2 cups of coffee over the coffee I ordered. I told them that we did order 2 coffees at the previous table but they only brought the coffees out to the new table I was seated at and that they couldn't charge me twice because it was one coffee. Anyway, that was sorted out and I left feeling cheated of cold ice water and frustrated at the poor service we received. It's sad that one waiter with a bad attitude can just bring the whole customer experience down.
Gabriel Stein
Finally made it to the Famous Origin Coffee and was not disappointed.

I hate the apple and cinnamon muffin which was great, granted it was baked earlier that day so not 100% fresh, but tasted really great given the fact it was a few hours old. I do know however that they bake fresh everyday, but due to how busy they are, sell out of their treats super quickly.

Their choice of coffees is enough to make one very confused and you feel as if you're wasting the opportunity if you have a normal cup of coffee, so I reckon im gonna make it a thing to try something different each time.

The staff were very friendly and super attentive, but they were actually more than friendly, it was a joy to be waited on by them.

I'll definitely up my rating once I've had proper food here.

Francesca Favero
I am a big fan of Origin coffee. Incidentally, it was my mother who first took me there many years ago before it was a household name and had its current hype. And from the first time I visited, I was incredibly impressed by the coffee knowledge of the baristas working there. It hardly needs to be said, but I will anyway: Obviously the coffee is amazing. I'm a flat white kinda gal, but I hear that anything you order coffee wise will be great.
Have had a pastry here once and it was not fantastic, but the coffee more than makes up for this.
Have heard friends rave about the Shakshuka so I must make a special plan to go for breakfast and try it myself!
JotterJo
The first thing that bowls you over here is the superior service and attentiveness of the waiters. Upon entering I was, immediately given a bottle of water and a glass. A nice touch. I was handed the various menus and settled in to make my selection. I had a strong, hot cafe latte which put a smile on my dial instantly. I ordered 2 free range eggs, scrambled on multi seed roast. It wad so simple, yet very tasty and even the butter was wrapped as a little sweet on the side.

Simple, elegant, scrumptious.

So, whilst it's possible that Origin won't be everyone's cup of tea (see what I did there), I had a brilliant breakfast yesterday. Their coffee experience and variety was right up my street and, as a fan if their coffees, I was happy before the food entered the equation. I really enjoyed my breakfast too, good value for money and very tasty. I could well be moving my weekly town coffees to Origin and finding excuses to work through the rest of their menu.
Stacey Norsworthy
This is a great little place for a coffee/breakfast in the city. However this is a coffee connoisseur's dream with their variety of coffees & various preparation methods. I was brave enough to try out the coffee tasting plate which includes a cappuccino, an espresso & the aeropress blend.
Their food was pretty good too. A lot of bussle within their store. Cute little pastries and sweets on offer too

As a coffee place needs to be: PERFECT!

As a coffee place needs to be: PERFECT!

As a coffee place needs to be: PERFECT!

Serious coffee people only!
Definitely one of Cape Towns Best. Their coffee/tea range and differentiation is superb. The Deli Pastries counter is limited but the quality superb. Breakfast is great lunch is decent. Take aways slow. Parking is a huge problem. The cold brew is brilliant.
Danieljake
Origin is said to be the heart of the artisan coffee roasting industry in South Africa; where it all began.

Their Green Point store is beautifully laid out. It has a Scandinavian theme similar Rosetta in Woodstock.

The cortado I ordered was pulled perfectly and was rich and flavourful. The temperature was fine and the texture was consistent.

They also have quite a big selection of cakes and bakes at the deli section in front.

What's also interesting is how large their selection of artisan leaf tea is. When I come back I'll definitely try one of their tea blends. They seem to be associated with Nigiro in Cavendish (hence the anagram of Origin - aha!)

A great experience overall
Hans-Werner Hartung
Very good coffee and vibe but the service is painfully slow. So order your coffee, sit back, relax, enjoy the coffee, sit back, relax, order another coffee.........The food will come some time!
Anthea Chittenden
As a business traveler this is an ideal spot for a cuppa before your day gets going, all my Uber drivers were well versed as to this mecca of coffee delights. Staff is friendly but service is slow so make allowance for this if heading to a meeting. Saturday mornings are a hive of activity, a short wait for a table can be expected. Food portions are generous and beautifully presented. Their tea selection is an adventure of its own!
The Authentic Girl
If you are serious about coffee, then Origin is the spot for you. My sister introduced me to Origin about 2 years ago and I have not looked back. Sometimes we drive 30kms for Origin coffee. The pastries and food is really delicious. I would highly recommended their burgers.

Love this spot! Its definitely one of my favourites.
Lauren Kim
What a cool spot in town ☕️
✔️ amazing coffee
✔️ brilliant service
✔️ comprehensive menu
✔️ awesome vibe
Will be back for breakfast and lunch.
Zanel
Had a flat white and the hummingbird cake, not overly sweet so was good. Their treats are smaller portions priced from R20 which is nice if you just feel like something small. My friend had a giant oatmeal and chocolate cookie and really liked it. The waiter brought a bottle of water to or table before we had even asked which is great.
Lee-Or Brittz
Just had a poitjie at Origin, I was looking forward to a tasty South African dish, but instead it came out burnt tasteless and chewy. I expected a lot better. The waiter was kind enough to remove it from the bill and apologised, but this kind of food should not be served to customers in the first place. Overall disappointed.
Rebecca Shiel
Came here in summer a while ago and had the Niçoise salad (which I've seen they've now taken off the menu) and came back the other day for a quick lunch. Not only wasn't I seated when I walked in, or given a menu, but I waited 20 mins for a waiter to help me after finally been given one before I had to leave. Terrible service.
Nic Hern
While the rest of the table may disagree with this rating my breakfast experience was terrible! For a restaurant that prides itself on coffee I find it unacceptable that both my coffees were cold! They forgot my breakfast and by the time they brought my breakfast the rest of the table had already finished their food! The food itself was a bit of a let down and my bagel was completely stale! Maybe My experience was a once off but it really was such a disappointing experience😔
Kayla Robinson
Best coffee I've ever had, really great atmosphere and very friendly staff. I'd go out of my way to stop and have coffee here, also great for sitting down for a while and doing some work.
Jonathan Holmes
A Cape Town institution you MUST visit! Fantastic coffee choices that you can have made in a number of ways. If you are a connoisseur you'll enjoy the options, but if you're a beginner they'll guide you to a great choice of coffee. Their breakfasts are great too. It lost a bit of character when they expanded and refurbished, and now you can get Origin coffee at many other coffee shops around the city, but it is still worth visiting the mother store.
Talia Lee Cohen
I love this place! It's around the corner, and the coffee is intricate, intriguing and heavenly! (although always listen to their recommendations - some coffees just don't mix with soy milk for instance).

The food is also pretty on point! I have come for breakfast and for lunch. The burgers are a must-try!! And my next is tasting the scrambled tofu 😁
Ulisha Moodley
Origin is one of my favourite breakfast spots. Great coffee and food. The service however is a little slow which can be frustrating. Usually go for the shakshuka or the eggs on toast with a side of bacon. Both are delicious dishes. Their flat whites are also great. Will definitely recommend a visit.
Sarah Mason
I was promised good coffee... Origin coffee roasting boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere with friendly staff, perfect for winter. We ordered a flat white and a Nitro coffee. The flat white was a straight 11/10 on the crazy cloud scale of coffee with A double shot of strong milky coffee. The Nitro coffee was essentially just a cold black coffee and definitely reserved for the coffee fanatic. The food however let us down. We ordered the butternut and zucchini burger which was tasteless and cold. The Banting breakfast was very good with a perfectly poached egg sauced with a to die for hollandaise sauce. We will definitely be back for the coffee and another try at the food though! P.S: The bagels are off the chiz-aaaan
Gabriela Limberis
One of the best coffee spots in Cape Town.
The atmosphere is vibrant and the coffee, well, it's exceptional. If you feeling up to it, do you barristers course and never have a dull cup of coffee again.
Eggs Benedict are also delish!

Had a great breakfast here, and the most amazing coffee... the eggs benedict was amazing. I sat a little close to the kitchen, which put me out of the actual vibe, but my seating position isn't what counts. All round great food

Its here where the coffee culture in Cape Town started. They serve the most interesting varieties of coffee prepared in unique ways. We experience with the two single estates. The first one from Papua New Guinea made by a Pourover. The second was the Brazil Fazenda Cachoeira Da Grana, craftfully prepared with the Siphon.
Fantastic coffee and breakfast. I always have the shashika and it's always delicious. Origin is one of my top 5 coffee shops to visit because their coffee is of exceptional quality. I've never had a bad cup of coffee here. The milk is beautifully frothed and the coffee is silky smooth

I love this coffee shop. Order your beans, order the method, sit back and enjoy. Whether you want an Ethiopian pour over or a house blend aero press, this is where you want to be. Also... Plum and white chocolate muffins... YES PLEASE!

Awesome, strong coffee, with a delicious new house-blend to try every week. Love the flat-white! Interior is roomy, open and rustic - Very, very laid back. Breakfast is delicious, bread is homemade, mushrooms are tasty and bacon is ALWAYS extra-crispy! :) I'm impressed on every visit.

With the number of independent coffee shoppes serving Origin, i had build great expectations regarding the origin of Origin! i was really disappointed. While location and decor are pretty cool, my flat white was cold. I was served my water long after i had finished my coffee. I'll stick with bootleggers and Haas!

Myself and my friend went for a quick coffee after our morning run . We were so impress with the service and the waitor that served us we enjoyed our short stay while drinking our coffee. We are returning tom to try out their breakfast.

A fantastic experience, a coffee journey with Jeremy!!! I will be back for sure! Phillip and Winston added to the experience with delicious coffee, and an all-round excellent friendly vibe!

We went there for a quick coffee and were not disappointed. It is strong, flavourful and very rich in taste. Also give the small treats a go - the humingbird muffin was yum

Amazing food, awesome building, too many teas and coffees to get your head around, and delicious baked goods. Also, all-day breakfast, every day. Have I said enough? The veggie options on the lunch menu are min, but the breakfast options make up for it. Always busy, so service can be slow.

Its simply the best coffee in Cape Town, most likely South Africa. You haven't had good coffee until you have had Origin;-)

They roast all their own beens that they source from around the world.
Carla Whitehead
Still rate as the best coffee in Cape Town. Always perfectly smooth, creamy and amazing coffee and the iced coffee frappe is such a win in summer
Jean-Pierre Du Preez
Don't know what the fuss is about. Coffee not that great and food is a rip off... Ordered rare roast beef sandwich and tasted bland. Service was slow...
Yanir Grindler
Well the coffee was good but everything was below average. My meal was tasteless, my friends meal only arrived once everyone else had finished their food. Furthermore, the bathrooms were filthy. Overall a not very pleasant experience.

Finally had the chance to experience Origin in Green Point. As expected, very busy - but waiting staff were accommodating and friendly. Coffee was good - not great. Loved the vibe.
Mitchell Gow
Excellent coffee brewed superbly, with wonderful baked goods and friendly staff. I thoroughly recommend it, one of the best cups in Cape Town and South Africa.

Cool spot. A warehouse style coffee zone where your coffee is made measured out and to perfection. The coffee I tasted there was Costa Rica which was very nice, although not my favorite blend. I had an iced latte which was nice but a bit sweet for me, but that's my fault as I chose it. If you're a coffee fan, go here. It's a funky spot!

I love Origin! This spot has rapidly made its way to the top of my coffee shop list! It's quality, delicious coffee and a cool space. The food is also fresh and delicious, you really can't go wrong!

I would recommend their salmon and cream cheese bagel as well as their super tasty chocolate croissants!

Walked in to get coffee and was greeted with a friendly smile and all. We asked: "do you have real dairy cream?" The lady wasn't sure. Then she asked the barista "do we have cream", He said yes. Still dont know of its real dairy cream and we wanted to make double sure it was fresh dairy cream, from a cow, not artificial non-dairy nonsense with a long shelve life and the lady said: "Im not sure, its probably the one with a long shelf life" Now if I have to ask the same question 3 times, in 3 different ways, and still cant get a definite answer, I rate your shop a 1,5. Walk over and show me the container where its from. Your shop has such a high reputation, but alas.

A viby daytime restaurant on the ground floor of Origin roasting and the source of the best coffee in Cape Town, no competition! For breakfast or lunch there is a simple but delicious selection of menu items as well as fresh baked bagels and other pastries made in-house. For a Saturday/Sunday hangover breakfast one cannot go wrong with Origin's Eggs Benedict, a buttery hollandaise sauce covering a huge helping of bacon/salmon over two eggs and dense muffin-like bread. Paired with a flat-white, of course! Just don't go midmorning on a weekend as you might not get a seat! It's either early breakfast or brunch (around 12).

I tried a macchiato for the first time, to my suprise it came with a glass of soda water and as a novice foodie I was like "and then! What is this for?" Until I took sip of the macchiato which knocked down my weak coffee palate with its strong a punch only to be revived by the soda so I can go for round 2, 3 and 4... I must say it was good and my coffee palate is a lot stronger now. After a lengthy look at the Manu I ordered a bacon egg Benedict which was AAa..mazing and I caught a slight bout of the idis after a macchiato nogal! My waiter was a bit of the silent type he needs a macchiato but the management made u for it. Good job origin Lesego BabyLee Puso Ruby Gugu ZwaneZwaneKutlwano Mphati Qiniso Pitse

A great Coffee getaway with a suburban/rustic atmosphere. Coffee is the main game but the typically "Modern South-African" sides and own their brand of unique bites are present to.
It's usually packed but still worth trying to find a seat. The best part of this coffee shop is it's location: you can walk to just about anywhere in the CBD with a large take away cup.
Origin has a lot of choice on the menu, and I decided on the Indonesian blend coffee, Aeropressed; it was delicious - very simply served in a glass tumbler.

While I do like the Origin brand very much, I think this outlet is a little over-hyped. It has a very particular, artsy, hipster vibe to it, from the decor, and the music, to the patrons. All fine, just not really my scene, I guess, and I really didn't feel much inclination to stay any longer than it took to finish my coffee.

If I lived in Cape Town I would go there often -Origin Coffee Roasting in Green Point. Plainly popular as a mobile office and meeting place.
I love to share one of the big tables, feeling like a visit at someone's country kitchen.
Besides the Flat White being delicious, I loved the Pawpaw, lime & ginger juice.
Mom had oats porridge cooked in apple juice with a little milk & honey. My sweet French toast with orange, honey and caramelised banana was rich and good.
The tea was served on a little tray with a hourglass so one can gauge the brewing time of the tea. Nice touch!

Went for breakfast the other day, the coffee was delicious, definitely a 5/5. The eggs benedict was quite good but not the best (maybe in my top10 in Cape Town so far). The only let down was the service, the waiter took quite long to come take our order and bring the coffee out and also forgot to bring out the condiments.

Love this place, the ambience- it's always humming. And the breakfasts are stunning. We start the days in Cape Town with a visit here. Service top quality too. A happy venue with interesting art exhibited.

I wandered into Origin one cold & windy day while on my way into work (in Greenpoint) - if only for a respite from the horrid weather. I was freezing, needed to get warm and so I just sat down on the first open chair I could find. When the barista/waiter came I actually had no idea what I wanted. He suggested a flat white. It was good but could of been better. (while decent I'm not really a fan of a small cup of coffee. Mugs are what I'm about). Sufficiently warmed up, the smells in Origin persuaded me to eat. I had wonderfully light & fluffy scrambled eggs on white sourdough toast (with bacon on the side). The meal was amazing (especially the jalapeño sauce that accompanied it) and served quickly. The bacon was crispy AF, maybe a tad too much. I will come back for this meal.

This is my absolute favourite place! I usually go to Origin around twice a week. They have the best staff who know so much about coffee. I am a huge coffee lover and have been to most of the coffee shops in Cape Town and Origin has always been number one. You can chat to any of the waiters about their coffee methods and the beans that they use, they will help you out with anything. (P.s their deserts are worth a try! But you have to get there early, the good ones are gone by around 12)
Goodfood
The coffee is great, the last time there I had a very good bagel with salmon and cream cheese. But the service... I may just be unlucky but tagging a waiter to take your order (previous visits) or getting a waiter to take your money (last time) takes the shine off.

If you are looking for incredible coffee in Cape Town - you've come to the right place. Walk into this warm, coffee smelling haven and allow the freshly roasted coffee and steamer to take over your senses. Try their seasonal blend: sip slowly while reading, joining the mobile crowd working on laptops, or, instagram with the artist type hipsters. I could come here weekly for their fantastic artisan bread (it is delicious and made in the back while you wait). Their juice is freshly squeezed, their staff are helpful, their breakfast is great and their passion is coffee.

Delicious coffee and food. Great buzzing atmosphere with loads of customers coming and going. Friendly, efficient service. This is a definite must visit!

This was my first time having eggs benedict (*hides) but I must say Origin set the bar really high. I thought it was phenomenal! Sadly unlike their food, the service did not make a good first impression. We were ignored from the moment we walked in and had to resort to frantic hand waving just to get a menu. Our waitress kept disappearing and the only thing she managed to serve us was cold coffee. Fortunately another waiter took over and for a second there I could have sworn he was wearing a cape with a superman S. He took our orders and in less than 15 minutes our food was ready and looking divine. He is the reason I did not lower my rating.

Good food and the coffee wasn't bad. The service wasn't on point. The order wasn't right when they served our food and the corrections took ages. The vibe was great though, a good distraction whilst waiting..

This was the first time I have been to Origin and was pleasantly surprised considering I don't drink coffee. Their selection of teas is fantastic and once chosen (the most difficult part) they bring your tea and tell you how long it should brew for, giving you a timer. It makes the tea a wonderful experience! Their food is also delicious. We had eggs Benedict and the savory French toast. Both were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately their almond croissants were sold out but I'm told they are to die for. I will definitely be returning to try out some more of their teas!

Origin coffee is just the perfect place for breakfast!
The food was delicious!
I decided to be naughty and try something not so healthy- so I went for the flap jacks with mascopne cream and caramelized banana! - it was delish.. Just one thing I thought they were a bit thick.. I like I would have preferred them thinner.

My partner had eggs Benedict.. Also tasty! I just thought the toast was a bit hard..
I'm just being picky... But the all round experience was very satisfying.. And the staff was also incredibly accommodating. Will be back!

Being bit of in introvert I was slightly surprised when I had to sit around the table with other people, however that didn't stand in the way of an awesome experience. Some of the best coffee I've had. Delectable Eggs Benedict. Very authentic, hipster feel. Definitely a place you'd find me often if I resided in the area! Loved it.

The food is stellar, the coffee even more so. These guys know coffee, and love coffee, like no other. Upstairs they have a barista academy and a roasters and they are always open to talk coffee. Upstairs is open to the public and everyone is very engaging. Go hang out with their team of roasters, coffee tasters, and trainers for a bit of coffee knowledge and a splendid time. Food menu at first seems a bit steep.. Until you taste the food. Phenomenal place if you love exceptional coffee

You know those places where you feel 10 times cooler if you're seen there? Yeah, this is one of those places.

I've only been to Origin for a take-away flat white and a delicious chocolate chip cookie, but that was enough to win me over. Their coffee is some of my favourite - but be warned, do not order a cappuccino, these don't exist and they might get upset if you say a flat white is basically the same thing (first hand experience...)

Although coffee is what they're known for, they also have a wide selection of teas and a pretty large food menu. The dishes sound amazing and I can't wait to head back to try some of them!

What the top cats have done with the space is incredible! It's a lot bigger than I'd thought actually, and I can definitely see myself getting caught up for a good couple of hours doing some work in a corner. It's got a bit of a dark grunge cross industrial cross NYC coffee shop vibe to it. I'm in love basically.

Definitely a great spot for an early morning cuppa or for a bite to eat (I'll confirm that when I eat something substantial). Your cool level will definitely jump up a notch or three.

Visited on 11 July for breakfast. Nice fibey atmosphere. Manager / owner was hovering about, making sure everything ran smoothly. Flat white was delicious. Breakfast however is expensive, and order was incorrect. Nothing special. Nice choices though...
