Review Jason Bakery - Cape Town Central

Jehad Alzahrani
This was my second visit, and both times I haven’t been disappointed. Interior and environment: The place is a bit small, no tables inside Tables are outside, with bench seats. A bit comfy seats, clean tables. Staff and service: staff are super friendly, and helpful. Service will depend on customers if it’s a busy day ( weekends ), it’s a bit slower; but still considered good. Food : Usually breakfast till 12pm, except on all-day-breakfast Saturdays. menu was a bit different in each time. I went for EggSlutt, delicious soft egg with tasty sriracha mayo although the brioche roll was a bit dry for me. Asked for plain croissant on the side it was amazing, crunchy outside, soft and buttery inside. Eggs scrambled and fried was presented as ordered, fluffy and soft with their amazing croissants. Coffee was good too. Prices : are acceptable for the quality they offer in their meals. Overall, an amazing place to start your day, excellent environment, delicious food, and reasonable prices.

Fantastic breakfast. Ordered the strawberry crumpets that came with two large pieces of bacon. Very good and highly recommended. My friend ordered scrambled eggs on a sourdough rye, which was also good. Though I would recommend the crumpets because they were perfect. Service was fast and friendly.

We just had to visit Jason's after following them for so long on Instagram. And we weren't disappointed. Not only was the coffee excellent, a double shot flat white, but the scrambled eggs and thick bacon was outstanding. Service with a smile. Highly recommended.

Had my first red espresso flat white. So delicious! Must get here early for chocolate croissants. Fast service!

Love that amazing spot close to kloof street :) They’ve got healthy and normal breakfast and lunch options, fresh juices and matcha latte 😍 Would recommend anyone to drop in here :) Loooove!

Ah what a treat! This inner city hidden gem is any pastry or coffee lover's dream.- From the amazing menu options to the kindhearted friendly service! Coffee enthusianists, do yourself a favour

Jason Bakery has some of the best food items we tasted in Cape Town Area. They had some delicious doughnuts, and their almond buns were a great hit.
Vanessa Armstrong
Never miss an opportunity to visit this incredible bakery....breakfast is a must, Lobster roll Friday is a highlight of the week and Doughsant Saturdays are legendary. Simply the best!
Suzie Selman
This is a great place to have breakfast, it has a very nice atmosphere and food is good! We ordered the Green Pancakes and the Ragout Mushrooms, both were amazing!!
Nils Flaatten
Jason’s just has fantastic baked goods. The shop is extremely popular and you are very like to see a hip crowd there on Saturday morning. We often purchase donuts when we cater for guest at home. The only challenge is that you have to fetch you order on time otherwise it gets released to those queuing outside the shop. Never had a poor donut and highly recommend them although pricey. Parking is a challenge.

If you are looking for a place for a breakfast, lunch or both this is the place. Amazing pastries, delicious sandwiches and high quality coffee I strongly recommend this bakery. It's located in a very nice area and has a enjoyable environment. It is not large building, but there tables outside.
Jesse Gillis
Lovely breakfasts and everything that is baked comes out perfect. They put a lot of effort into their restaurant and it shows. Slightly pricey but worth the good vibe and quality of food. There coffees are outstanding. Very keen to see what they have in store for us for their next branch...

This cosy bakery deserves all the hype it gets! They serve a delicious all day breakfast with the most amazing pastries. Don't go there if you are on a diet, just accept that you have to try a little bit of everything. Go there hungry!

Very cool little place on the corner. Waiters were very helpful and bagel was amazing. Pity there was loadshedding so couldn't try their coffee
Tabasum Ahmed
Friendly staff and the food is simply amazing. They definitely get the basics right, a great quick stop shop for breakfast.

Absolutely the best pastry and bakery in Cape Town, it is a niche and classy place with edgy style. The coffee was absolutely lovely and the decor is simple yet sophisticated
Ankit Jain
Coffee at it’s best. Still not the coffee that i was looking for. Nothing much to eat for vegetarians (egg also prohibited) . Good vibe. Only suggestion if could add up a pop colour into the dark black.
Damian
Awesome place if you're into sweet things and baked goods! Very fun and creative menu. Friendly staff and excellent service. Good location, although, I could always do without street parking. Well worth the visit and money, though.

It was breakfast time and this spot was the spot to be. Was welcomed by the friendly staff and was already happy to be there within 30 seconds of arriving.
The environment was really inviting and packed for a Saturday morning.
The exciting thing about their menu is that they have a different offering every week, which is definitely a reason to come back as often as possible. The menu and the presentation of the food is enticing
I had an eggs Benedict. Even though I wish I had a bit more of the sauce, I cannot fault it anywhere else.
Tselane
My boyfriend and I love this spot on Saturday mornings. We come for the famous doughsants. Service is okay. Some menu items for me are a bit overpriced but none the less love this place.
Cheryl Coetzee
A bustling and vibey breakfast/brunch spot in Bree street. I had a turmeric flat white and a bacon croissant with scrambled eggs, cheese, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo and they were both SUPER delicious! I Would definitely recommend this spot to anyone.

Had a lovely breakfast at Jason’s the other day with some lovely sweet treats and some good food. The bagels were delicious, as was the breakfast toastie and smashed avo, however my Caperese sandwich was overpowered by tomato relish - so much so that I couldn’t taste the delicious mozzarella which was a little disappointing. When it came down to the sweet treats, we enjoyed every single mouthful. From the brownie truffle to their delicious white chocolate brownie, Jason’s is the place to go if you have a sweet tooth. I also liked that they had a large selection of hot drinks, with delicious teas made with tea leaves. The coffees were put down on the table cold, which wasn’t great, but their chai latte is very, tasty. All in all, a nice experience, but I would defiantly go for specific things.

Mother of Doughnuts, this place is insane. If you’re ever craving a bomb of sweet sin, (and let’s be real, that happens every day) go to Jason’s Bakery. They hand craft the most insanely delectable sweet treats that you’ve ever seen. (View their Instagram account to whet your appetite and make your taste buds scream in anticipation.)

Their creations are truly out of this world; from the coolest dessert hybrids, to chocolate custard filled doughnuts (made from scratch of course) that will make you believe in .

Yes, you pay for quality, but all things considered, it’s not expensive when you consider the pure bliss you get from devouring the best doughnut you’ve ever tasted.

Only downside was, there weren’t many of the crazy doughnuts available when I was there. (Just goes to show how quickly they sell out). I’ll be sure to pre-order my doughssant next time!

Plus, their breakfasts are delish, the coffee is great, and their bustling New York hole-in-the-wall street café vibe is on point. It’s difficult to create a truly unique restaurant persona in the ever-changing landscape of Cape Town’s eateries, but Jason’s Bakery nailed theirs.
Lauren McMaster
You can’t fault Jason’s. Coffee and pastries are too good. Actually just their entire menu. You’ll battle to find a seat, even on a cold and rainy Monday morning.
Gabriella
Can’t fault Jason’s bakery, not even when you waiting in a line over the weekend cause you know it’s going to be worth the wait & hey you can always grab a takeaway coffee while you wait. Love the ever changing menu, as it’s always a delicious surprise. The service is also always top notch. Don’t forget to grab a sweet treat on the way out, hard to resist as you pass them when you walk out!
Russel Roth
Always fresh, their sourdough is ridiculous, The crust is something to behold. So morish that you can eat a whole loaf at a sitting.
The Sandwich no matter the filling complemented by the sourdough or rye sourdough will be a treat.
Mvmckenzie22
Was really looking forward to trying out Jason’s Bakery, must say I was quite disappointed, what we wanted on the menu was no longer being served but yet it was still on the menu?? We just ended up having coffee
Shilan Govender
After hearing a lot about Jason’s Bakery, I decided to visit and try to get my hands on a their Cronut/Doughsant. The place was hugely popular with lines in their takeaway window going down the street. We sat inside (lucky to get a place before it got busy) as the seating space is small and ordered a number of items to share. Their dessert fare (for me) was better than their savoury offering. Savoury meals - pig in a blanket, chorizo & egg tart and breakfast bagel. Dessert - cream filled doughnut, doughsant and an almond croissant (not in the pics). The main meals were good without being great. The dessert were very interesting and tasty with unique flavours. The staff were friendly and we were took care off though I did feel a bit rushed at times. Overall, a good experience and I would definitely recommend the desserts to those visiting.

Jason’s CBD is known for their great coffee and amazing pastries. I went the other day and it was super busy inside but they had their heaters on outside making for a nice cozy atmosphere. I had the curried cauliflower salad, it was delicious! The rest of the menu looks great as well. I ordered a rooiboss latte as well which was great but charging R15 for almond milk is a bit steep. All in all, was a great lunch.

I love stopping by Jason’s bakery, I had a decadent croissant cup at the Bree Street one.The service was outstanding and our waiter was really friendly, the seating however is limited at this branch so I would suggest the Green Point branch if you’re planning on having a relaxed sit down breakfast.

Extremely disappointing.
Looking at the reviews, we traveled all the way to have a breakfast at this place. After placing an order, we waited and waited and waited forever for our food. In the interim the table next to us received their order and to our surprise within 10 mins entire group left the place....leaving more than half of each dish unfinished. We wondered how none of them liked anything enough to finish off.
Still keeping our hopes high on the rating of a place we waited for some more time to get out food. Finally the food arrived and it was so very bland n tasteless!
We could not have it anymore..... though hungry. Hence decided to order for plain toast to have with our coffee. With the first experience, we dreaded for the time it might take. So specifically asked the waiter if he can bring the toast quick, then only take the order. He did promised to bring it fast....Which eventually took 20 mins to arrive.
Completely disappointing experience on both fronts...... food and service
Richard Best
This is a cute little cafe spot for grabbing a quick bite.

The staff were super friendly and the hot chocolate and the almond croissant are great. The brownie and the kick ass sausage roll were also pretty good.
'Alessandro Cernuschi
Trendy yet very relaxing outlet to hang around with friends. Their food selection is not very wide but the quality is good. Service was ok. Prices are medium/high for the type of establishment this is. But if you are ready to pay for a small premium for a pleasant place to eat, than this outlet is the right for you
Mayuri
Great service. Had scrambled eggs and salmon on a croissant - amazing. Good chai latte. Not a lot of seating so be prepared to wait a little.
Jomari Steyn
Morning coffee and croissants!* Cannot imagine a better way to start the day! Jason Bakery really makes amazing croissants and also use water sparingly! Johann Steyn
Caitlin Harvey
Their breakfasts aren’t worth the prices they charge but the coffee and baked goods are the best! Personal favourites are the combined cheesecake and carrot cake and their daily croissant cups.
Paula Macnab
Doussant very sweet but delicious!

Highly recommend the egg slut(promise this is the name)! Great work Jason's Bakery reducing water wastage through using takeaway coffee cups! Great start to a Saturday!
Michaela
Freshly baked goods like no other! I had the cuban and the twice- baked almond croissant. 🍓☕🍞 If you are in the area, you need to try this place out! It definitely didn't disappoint. 😱😍 I just advise anyone who plans on going to go early as their baked goods sell out super fast.
Folu Okunade
This is for the greenpoint cafe. Went there after hearing so much abt it and was very disappointed. Food was bland and not well presented. I ordered the avo toast and got a guac toast instead...someone should tell the chef that avo and guac are not the same thing. Plus the guac was runny and tasteless. Waiter had no idea what cold brew was and while i admit to my coffee snobbery, in this age, any proper coffee shop should really know abt and serve cold brew! Lastly, service was extremely slow.
Joash Narainsamy
Disclaimer - this review is for the Green Point outlet.

While this place looks gorgeous and trendy, I was rather disappointed with the food.

I had the toasted croissant with bacon, emmenthal and a poached egg. You would think this would be unctuous and satisfying, but it was dry and the toasted croissant tasted stale.

My friend's shakshuka had a massive whole tomato that the chef didn't bother to break down, and the dish was served at a far too hot temperature.

To top off the sad food, service was rather miserable. It took an hour from the time we sat down to the time we got our food.

I'd recommend elsewhere if you're in the vicinity.
Colleen Kalimba
Pastries and coffee - great! Service on the other hand, not great. Got some inappropriate comments from one of the baristas. Left a bad taste in my mouth, probably won't be back.
Katy Pea
Glory, this place is good. I follow their Insta feed for my daily dose of foodporn and I'm never disappointed. Breakfasts are mouthwatering, pastries are out of this world. And the always-something-new cronut selection requires no words. Do it. Do it now.
Mosa Mashati
I stopped here for a quick meal but they were just about to close so I ordered a slice of cheese cake, I had my reservations about cheese cake until I had this one, it is not sweet at all and it is a combination of carrot cake with raisins and cheese cake (if I wasn't a fan of carrot cake I'd be quite disappointed they didn't let me know beforehand that their cheesecake isn't plain cheesecake) so be sure you enjoy it laced with carrot cake and raisins. It is delicious!
This cake was such a treat, I'm excited to try more.

The service was warm and efficient, it is a very cute spot at the corner of bree and bloem street , not much seating on the inside, there's tables outside (but it gets quite windy in Cape Town so be prepared to be seated there) , it is tall stools only inside , not very convenient for an intimate and long meet up.
I can tell it gets quite full and busy everyday but a table would clear up quickly enough because it is the type of place you go to grab quick breakfast brunch.
Totally worth a visit.
Ivi Malotana
The warm beverages are to die for. Their breakfast meals are also splendid. I recommend this place if you happen to be in the CBD in the morning or noon. Though, be prepared 'cause it's slightly pricey.

This bakery is the perfect spot to have some breakfast and coffee with good company especially on a hot summers day, the vibe is just so serene and perfect to start the day. The Avo smash is just heaven on a trying to be healthy girl's plate
Kiana Pereira
Good place, vibey & hipster. The doughsants are amazing! Rest of the food is more or less similar to most others around. All in all a good attaction on bree street for breakfast!

Updated review: returned for breakfast. Had poached eggs on mielie bread and requested for mushroom ragout in the side.

The breakfast menu is not very inspiring. But what is served is very good. The coffee is amazing, the eggs perfectly poached, the mielie bread is super filling, the mushroom ragout super tasty - but at R55 for that side dish, I don’t think it’s worth it.

My fellow diner had the egg and bacon croissant and commented that it would’ve been better if the croissant was left untoasted, but still stated that the breakfast was tasty.

I think I’ll stick to the baked goods and coffee from the takeaway window.

Review 1: Had a cheeky croissant filled with peanut butter and topped with a strip of crispy bacon. The croissant was so flakey and the peanut butter was definitely not that commercialized stuff you get in the stores. This place does pastries right!

Ps. you need to get there early to get their famous dosants. Sadly they were sold out on this day. Pic is of the time before, where I managed to snag one of the last 2 remaining.

Update: just had the best donut of my life. Cinnamon sugar coated ball filled with milk tart filling.

I took me a while to visit Jason's as I am very put off by waiting in a queue for a table, but when I finally got a table I definitely wasn't disappointed. And the queue moved way faster than I would have imagined.

They were extremely busy(apparently more so than usual) yet their staff were still incredibly friendly and attentive.

They had run out of Croissants which they informed us before we sat down, along with the time the next batch would be ready(10 mins later), and we were more than happy to wait.

Our food arrived as promised at precisely the time they said it would and was absolutely delicious!

Coffee was great too!

I took home a loaf of sourdough, which is huge, so I've sliced and frozen it for toast in the mornings.

Will be back soon.
Ntshembo Nkuna
Such a nice cosy little place for coffee. It's quiet and the set up is nice. The food was okay shame, not out of this world, but edible. The service gets a 10👏👏👏 Would I go back again? Maybe😄
Atara Jaffe
The food here is good but it's always too crowded and stressful to find a seat plus it's just like on the road so it has a very urban crowded feel to it

Food: 5
Ambiance: 5
Service: 5

Early morning breakfast or later morning brunch you gotta love the bustle of Jason's kitchen... Grabbing a simple coffee and almond croissant 🥐 even works... I'm such a fan of pastry and this bakery is such a favorite... everything is done right every time!!!
Charlotte Snyman
I just happened to see a FB post about Jason's Bakery being featured on Paul's Bakes on the Food Network Channel. So I knew we had to go there. We struggled to find parking but didn't mind paying R17 to park close by.

The menu isn't complicated. There are many options. We decided to keep it simple. My husband and I both had a flat white coffee but we each something to eat. He chose the bacon and emmenthal croissant. I chose a lovely Danish "croissant style" pastry filled with frangipane called a Tiberkes. It's only made on Fridays. It didn't take long for our borders to arrive. The coffee was hot. We split our orders in half and shared. His croissant was beautifully buttery and flaky. It wasn't dry at all. The bacon and cheese were ample and not a stingy amount at all. My Tiberkes was layers of buttery goodness with a subtle almond flavor topped with a delectable poppyseed crust. So yum and yum.

I love the vibe of Jason Bakery. I loved the quirky branding of a croissant in the shop's windows, coffee cups and saucers. The decor is slightly rustic but it feels homey. The staff is friendly and helpful. I will go there again.
Amazing, amazing food and pastries.... It will def be recommended. #amazeballs #breakfast

Its def worth the drive there. You wont be dissapointed.

The perfect way to start your day! Quick service, good coffee and fresh croissants with bacon and cheese. Yum yum! A bit pricey, but definitely the perfect treat once in a while.

This is the go to breakfast and pastry stop in the CBD it seems and I couldn't agree more. You do need to go early if you looking to get some pastries as the there is a constant queue at the outside window and they do sell out quite early, with a waiting time for a sit down as well. The Dosant is fantasticly devine. Outstanding coffee as well. Had the breakfast croissant which shows quality across the entire menu. Will make this my go to spot when in CT.
Robyn
Thumbs up, fantastic! Both the the service and the food were amazing. Try the mushroom ragout on toasted sourdough if you get a chance, out of this world delicious! Will definitely be back to this little cozy gem.
TK Boulais
Good coffee, baked goods and breakfast. Most of the tables are outside so it might not be the best choice on a cold day. But we were comfortable inside at the bar facing the street. Service was nothing memorable. We'd probably go back for a quick breakfast or a coffee and pastry to go.
Chris Rafael
First off don't say you are pet friendly if you are not 100% pet friendly. Nothing annoys me more than having a waiter see I'm with a dog then having them seat me inside only to have the manager complain about my dog. If you didn't want me to sit inside brief your staff about seating me outside in the first place. Simple.

I ended up cranky before I even had my first cup of coffee for the day or something to eat just because of my fur child. I won't get into the dog thing much more but I will say that the pet friendly status needs to be removed. Of course the street is pet friendly you can't control that but there are other pet friendly cafes and restaurants in town that actually whole heartedly welcome the fur children and these places hold a special place in pet owners hearts. Granted I wasn't kicked out because the store was so busy but I was made to feel so uncomfortable by the hostess and and her beady eyes I just shoveled my breakfast down and left.

Service was surprisingly quick for such a busy period in the morning. My latte arrived and it was nice - no distinct layers though in coffee so this could be worked on. The micro foam isn't consistent and needs some attention. I asked the waiter what their signature bake is for the restaurant and I was told the doughnut/croissant hybrid the Dough-ssant was where it was at. It came beautifully presented and basically it's a doughnut made from croissant dough. A cool concept but the cream cheese mousse that was advertised lacked heavily. There was more mousse on the top as decoration than inside as the filling. The cinnamon cookie ontop was a nice touch. There were portions of the dough that were undercooked which was sad. A lot of cinnamon going on here - a tad overwhelming because nothing else balances out that much cinnamon. There was suppose to be a milk chocolate glaze but this was lost on the cinnamon. Renaming it a cinnamon doughnut would have been a better call. Being a fat kid we know our sweet stuff - I think at the price point this particular sweet treat fell short of the glamour of signature bake for this store.

The service was quick and the staff friendly even when the manager told the waiter to tell me to move outside with my dog - he did it with the biggest "please don't shoot the messenger" smile he could muster even after I explained I only came because it was pet friendly. Place left me feeling meh.
Khanya Kay Nondabula
I had the most decadent cronut/ doughsant of my life here ! It was so decadent. However their ciabatta sandwich didn't make the cut for me the bread was extremely hard to chew or even cut through the service is average and seating arrangements aren't optimal.
Samantha
I've been here quite a few times. More often than not the Saturday doughssant gets me out of bed in the morning. The pastries can sometimes be a hit or miss but the coffee is great.

The food is good too and the wait staff are very friendly. The venue is always busy on a Saturday morning so it can take a while to get a table sometimes.

Overall I love the vibe and my husband loves the pigs in blanket!
Sharima Bramannan
I must admit that I went the Jason's just for the croissant cups that I've seen so often on Instagram. But it was all sold out when I got there. Settled for a bbq pulled chicken sandwich with sourdough bread...I enjoyed it...lots of flavour and quite a big portion!
Thecapegatsby
Dashed in for a quick lunch. Had the "KILLER GRILLED CHEESE" unfortunately the only thing this thing killed was wallet.
My expectation was something out of the movie "Chef" but then then this. Scarcely spread cheese which that also despite being "boerenkas" (wateva that is) lacked any flavour whatsoever. They should've stuck with just regular ol cheese. The Ciabatta was hmm ok not unique in any way, but the sandwich on a whole was dry and bland. Also had vagrants begging me for money and food right where I was eating. Overall a terrible experience.

But hey, least they put a heart in my coffee.
Adrian De Graaf
What a cool location. Easy place to enjoy your juice and watch the CBD pass on by. The food is also very tasty and the selections are different to what you usually experience. The service was good with very efficient and friendly waitrons.
Irina
All was divine- except for the fact that the waiters brought my food before my coffee- so my food got cold before I got my drink- otherwise it all tasted fantastic!
Charlemagne Olivier
The "Dosant" from Jason's was honestly life changing. I could die happy if that was my last pastry, even last meal I ever have. The cortado that accompanied my fresh pastry was also great and the atmosphere & friendly staff made the experience all that much better.
I can't wait to visit Jason's Bakery again when I visit the mother city.
Real_forking_diet
I heard a lot of good things about jason bakery , so thought i’d pop by and get a little treat … the place is conveniently located on Bree street and alway buzing . i just had a cake so its not a full review of the place is just a review about the cake in question and i have to try more to make up my mind .
Shelley Bell
Jason Bakery is such a treat. Their coffee is consistently fantastic. Staff are friendly and efficient. Great breakfast menu and delicious pastries if that's your thing. Wish there was more seating but then I guess it would lose its intimacy.
Nic Hern
Awesome little breakfast spot on Bree! Really good cup of coffee and the food was on point. The service added to the experience and I'm definitely going to be going back👍🏻
Melissa Do Couto
Really great little coffee shop. I went during lunch time and had a kick ass pie (beef bourguignon was the flavor of the day) and it truly was kick ass. The pastry was buttery and crunchy, perfectly cooked and not soggy. Which was impressive as the filling was pretty saucy. The filling itself was delicious, the meat was falling apart it was so tender. Quite a steal as it was only R50 and extremely filling!
The service was quick, despite how busy it was. If I can I'll be back to try a pastry!
Camron Andrews
Fantatsic to-the-point cortado! Full of kick without being too acidic. Flat white excellent. Well rounded with a rich caramel flavor. Refreshingly different from the popular african blends at the moment. This is an El Salvador bean. Not patiently waiting for lunch😊
The SA Food Guru
This famous bakery and coffee shop is very popular with locals and tourists alike. Get here early if you want something specific as the pastries sell out quickly. Their coffee is expertly made and tastes great! Can't go wrong here!
Mishka Latib
I've only ever heard good things about Jason's, and now I know why! All the food coming out of that kitchen seems to be well thought out, prepared and presented- no matter how simple it's composition. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly when querying menu items and dietary preferences.. be sure to try both their hot and cold coffee options, and get there early enough for breakfast- it's worth it! Only downside I find with this spot is the awkward outside seating at the high stools and the often impossibility to find a free full table right away.
Ajna Maharaj
Went for breakfast with my boyfriend his pain au chocolat was delicious, I was quite unhappy with my order mainly due to the lack of service or poor attention from our waiter, I ordered soft poached eggs with mushrooms and they arrived no mushrooms and hard-cooked; worse, he seemed annoyed when I reminded him of my original order, for me his service and attitude ruined the experience!
Trevor
Went for brunch.
Absolutely wonderful. Lovely laid-back ambience. Super chilled.
We had the sweet and sour ' kick-ass' pie ( special of the day ) with side salad. Perfection. The other choice was the rare roast beef on ciabatta bread.
Cappuccino was top class as was the melon pineapple and carrot juice.
Service friendly and helpful.
Place was packed which is always a good sign.
Jenna Rodd
This is such a lovely bakery. I love the concept that every Saturday Jason's creates a new doughssant (croissant plus doughnut) so it always keeps me guessing and going back for more! Their fresh juices are also delicious as are their Nutella Nuggets. The coffee is also great. It is a great on-the-go spot as they have seating where you can order or you can order at a takeaway counter.
Georgia Blueberrii
The only problem with Jason's is not being able to eat it everyday. Pastries like no other (don't leave without trying the breakfast cups with egg & bacon), best croissants in town. Easy on the go food. Phenomenal sandwich selection. Sometimes has a bit of a line with a wait but so worth it.
Ceiran Megan Vd Westhuizen
Delicious as always! I had the egg slutt again which I've had numerous times for breakfast and it is great every time. My boyfriend had the cheesy dog which was so tasty and large. The only qualms I have with this place is that it is not big enough to cater for its popularity - so we ended up waiting a long time to be seated and half their tables are uncomfortably situated on a slope.
Ruqaya Gabier
My favourite croissants in Cape Town. Friendly service, rustic decor and cosy atmosphere. It gets really full but worth the wait, definitely at must try! (The coffee is pretty good too)
Nicol Miller
Buttery, crispy outside, yet soft centered croissants, served with one of the best cappuccinos I've had in a long while.. Absolutely delicious. Jason is ALWAYS bustling and busy, and they run out of pastries really quickly(can you blame them), so get there early! Another recommended treat would be the Truffled Grilled cheese, on ciabatta, toasted. Cheddar cheese, truffle butter...so tasty.
Jessica Armstrong
I travel to Cape Town from Joburg often and I ALWAYS stop in here to grab a flat white and delicious treats! Sometimes I even fly them back home! The dousants which are served on Saturday are legendary and they are heavenly. He makes Canele that are to die for and perfect in every way, the pastis de Nata or "custard tarts" are melt in your mouth sensational. The standard has never dropped and every time I come back for a taste the creatively themed pastries and morish treats have me begging for more. A truly fantastic bakery! By far the best in Cape Town, do it!
Epikoros
Best pastries in Cape Town. Croissants are crispy buttery light and melt in your mouth good. Would receive 5 stars but the coffee lets it down slightly. Great staff, always friendly and open early so good place to go before work.

Lunch time sandwiches are excellent as are their range of soups.
Anamika Karamchand
Such an amazing experience! Heard a lot about this place and decided to wake up early one Saturday morning to give it a try.

The service is brilliant, the staff are very friendly and definitely know their menu very well, able to give recommendations, as well as answer any food related questions.

The food was simply amazing and very filling. We ordered something savoury as well as something sweet and surely was not disappointed by either!

Give your taste buds a treat and try it out. Definitely worth your while.
Derek Miller
Clearly people love this place, it was packed at 08:30 on Reconciliation Day! The photo of Jason with scowl, tattoos and meat cleaver will certainly make most people think twice before complaint about anything! Fortunately we had no complaints at all. Even though it was full we were quickly seated and served. The coffee cups are a bit small (for us coffee addicts?) but at R23 they are well priced. I had the Slutt(?) scrambled egg breakfast on a bun with bacon. It was really good with melted cheese but only problem it was served on a REALLY small plate! Michele had the scrambled eggs on a croissant. Again really good served with roasted cherry tomatoes making a good complement. So I can see why Jason is so popular and will certainly be back.
Mark Hele
Class coffee, croissants and service. No need to say anymore! Get there enjoy and go back for more and to make the 140 characters, " class coffee, croissants and service".

Went to Jason Bakery with a friend for lunch.
Sitting outside in the breeze on bree street was a treat and lovely setting for a good catch up.

I ordered the croissant with ementaal and bacon which was lovely, while my friend ordered the Italian sandwich on seed loaf. She enjoyed it but felt that it was a little heavy handed on the balsamic glaze , making it overly salty.

Unable to decide what baked goods to order for dessert , we shared the croissant cup and the chocolate croissant. Both were beautiful and buttery, but my personal favourite had to be the croissant cup - will definitely be back for that in the future!
An absolute treat to visit Jason Bakery on Bree street. We started with good strong flat whites and moved on to a croissant cup to amuse our pallets 😊 the cup was delicious, although a bit dry. Our main meals were the sushi sandwich on sourdough rye- always amazing; and the quinoa egg bowl- different and divine.
I'll be back soon!

Nice breakfast/ great coffee/ lunch spot. They often have creative, hybrid creations - like the doughssant, which changes weekly.
The egg slut breakfast croissant was delicious and satisfying with a good salty, sweet, soft, buttery combination.
First prize is outside seating if the weather permits. It can get quite windy but they are prepared with blankets on hand.
Our waiter was very friendly and fast.

I'm an absolute sucker for cronuts so I knew I would love Jason's before I even walked in. If you're looking for a quaint bakery on Bree Street with heavenly scrambled eggs and the most decadent cronuts you've ever laid eyes on, this is definitely your place. They only make cronuts on Saturday though, so make sure you get there early!

I wasn't sure what to have for breakfast this morning so the waiter suggested I try the herbed quinoa and I'm so glad I did. The bowl is filled with herbed quinoa ,kale, portebellini mushrooms, pesto ,green beans ,shavings of parmesan and a perfectly soft poached egg. It was delicious ! The service is also great.

Tiny, but busy! Good strong coffee! The Boom! Crispy croissant with perfect poached egg, emmental cheese, and bacon, value for money. Love the street vibe. Limited seating, so take it away.

Jason is always lovely & makes each customer feel welcome.
The breads, croissants & other baked goodies are truly delectable.
I've had the octopus salad & WOW, my taste buds were satisfied beyond belief! My food loving companion always makes a point to try new things & has had almost everything on the menu & has yet to be disappointed.
A superb bakery with an amazing vibe! We never leave empty handed!

I decided to take away one of the croissant cups that's always tempting me on Instagram. It was a chocolate and coconut croissant cup topped with a cherry. I enjoyed it and would love to go back for their doughsants some day soon.

Difficult to grab a table, and if there's wind, you'll have to pinch one outside. The staff scramble around with the many orders. We tried for a seat and waited a while for service so instead we decided on a takeaway.

The Asian green Teriyaki chicken salad again took its time but it was perfectly flavoured with many delightful vegetables to crunch on!

It's usually near impossible to get a table but today we were lucky, we got seated almost immediately. The only problem was that most of the yummy pastries were sold out. I suggest you go early in order to sample some of the pastries on offer. I had their hot chocolate and I have to say it was delicious, have to return it's a must

So I've had their dousant thing, I don't know how to spell it. It was good. Today we popped in.. there were no pastries, the coffee was average. The one waiter was nice but unfortunately he wasn't ours. I feel our waiter was a bit put off by the fact that we didn't order any food but occupied a table - all she could offer us were bacon croissants and we'd eaten earlier.

Probably the best bakery in Cape Town!

Although small in size and always being full, Jason Bakery has some of the best pastries out there. I ordered a plain croissant with a cheese and tomato sandwich with ciabatta while my best friend had the scrambled egg croissant with bacon and cheese.

We loved it!
Great value for money, great service.

PS: they're hot chocolate is out of this world!

Been dying to come here and I wasn't disappointed!

Great breakfast and the staff are pretty great too, they manage their tables well even though the bakery is always packed.

I had the flavour of the week omelette which contained chorizo, emmenthal and tomato. It was great although I was disappointed with the rye toast and it may as well have been a cracker.

My friends croissant was amazing and I have actually had an almond croissant from here before which was also exceptional.

I'll be back here soon to try their poached eggs, carrot cake cheesecake and their legendary doughsants!

Jasons is absolutely amazing👌👌. What made it even more special is the fact that after 35 years I once again entered this premises. This is the building that was owned by my grandfather and where where my mom grew up us, the grandkids played. The Bakery is where my grandfathers butchery was. Apart from the food being fabulous it was great to be back there again. If you havent had anything from this bakery yet you should definitely take a trip there.

Woke up early this morning to come try out the popular dough-ssant. This week's one was blueberry and white chocolate mousse, with a whipped cream cheese topping! The actually pastry and the filling were both absolutely incredible. Also tried the croissant with melted emmental cheese, which was nice but nothing to rave about. The service was delightful and the coffee was great too. Will definitely be back to try out more pastries. The breakfasts looked delicious as well...The restaurant filled up quickly this morning so I'd recommend getting there early if you'd like to have a sit-down meal.

I finally got to taste something from the amazing jason bakery and it was incredible. I stopped for a quick take away coffee and crossaint cup. There were only two left, they were beautifully chocolatey with a homemade oreo and chocolate custard. It was so delicious and buttery, crisp on the outside and soft and melt in your mouth on the inside. Truly amazing and... It was only R20. What a steal. The coffee was great too and service was super quick. 4,5 because I definitely will be back to try everything.

A CBD legend. Now I know why. Stopped by for a latte and croissant. Some menu items were not available and the place feels a little cramped and claustrophobic but the crispy, buttery croissant made up for it.

Love the vibe here - perfect for a in-the-city lunch stop or a quick pastry on the go. I had the 'Cup of Love' which was sweet potato and sundried tomato, mmm. Coffees and bread are good, and I'm dying to try one of their doughssant creations!

Finally decided to wake up early enough on a Saturday morning to try out a signature Jason Doughsant - It was totally worth it! Part of their apparent 'seven deadly sins' series, today's Doughsant was aptly named 'wrath'. Filled with strawberry jam and topped with sweet cream, this decadent delight has definitely appeased my sweet tooth for at least a week (until I try out the next doughsant!)

So very disappointed - now on two occasions. The vibe and reputation of this spot is far better than the food. The smoked chicken is oily brown meat, clearly just taken off the bone - I had to pick most of it out of my drenched-in-oil sandwich - and their almond croissants are again overly oily and contained no trace of almond - aside from the burnt flakes placed on the top for decoration. Suffice it to say, I won't be returning.

As a true pastry queen this is my ultimate indulgence spot! The candied bacon croissants and fresh rye bread are top notch! Also had a fair share of delicious fresh and flavourful salads. A relaxed, trendy vibe and popular coffee spot. Get their early before the good stuff sells out and to ensure your seat!

Food looks great however the seating area is tiny and not very pleasant. They served my latte in a glass mug without any handle so not a very pleasurable experience.Wont be rushing back.

We stopped here to work for the morning as our hotel wasn't ready yet and we had to pass the time. It is a nice spot with a good vibe, but the seating is more suitable to a quick, casual meeting. The cappuccinos were good, but the food let us down a bit. I had poached eggs on sourdough and wanted avo but they were out of stock. The eggs were very bland with no seasoning.

Finally got to try Jason's and really enjoyed it. Went on a Saturday to try out the famous doughssants which did not disappoint. They are crunchy and golden on the outside and soft and layered on the inside and are divine. We also tried out the mini Nutella doughssants which were also lovely, although they would have been even better if they were warmed up a bit.

Also tried out their breakfast and had the egg and caramelised onion in a brioche bun which was very good.

Overall a lovely experience and will be back a few times to try their other baked goodies which look amazing too!

This is my favourite bakery in Cape Town. Everything they touch turns to gold. From the bacon and peanut butter filled croissants to the incredible doussants. The coffee is great too. They always run out of their specials which is disappointing but reflects how good they are.

Lekker lekker

Jason's bakery is clearly a popular place,
so always make sure you bring your coat in winter. The long queues are worth it, but there is unfortunately more outside area than inside area! If you like croissants - there are so many different types of selection!

Jasons used to be a favourite place for a quick coffee and croissant, unfortunately lately the service has been getting slower. On my last visit I had the salmon and chorizo tartlets. I had to order from the counter as the waitress were not around on both occasions. Both tasted good but I found a piece of wrapping I guess from the chorizo in the tartlet. The manager suggested it was egg and offered to replace, I declined payed and left.

Nice little spot on the corner of the street, waiters were very nice and the food was nice but not worth the price. The food was also really oily, but it was nice atleast. went there with my GF especially for the deserts and they were already sold out of deserts at 1 O'Clock which was really disappointing.

Who doesn't love a corner bakery? Glorious bread and pastries... Good luck choosing what you'd like to indulge in. Usually packed, but if you can find a seat, try and sit inside - it's very cosy!

Excellent joint for a morning breakfast. But you have to get there early because it gets packed. And for good reason. Big portions and big flavour. Definitely worth the visit too, but a warning...you must go on an empty stomach! I had the stuffed jelopeno stuffed chicken breast. It sounds crazy but it was divine!

Busy busy busy and for god damned good reason. We went in for a Saturday morning breakfast. I know the tradition is to have a cronut but I went for the homemade Mango and Coconut granola. The perfect amount of crunch and flavour. The crisp coconut has me dreaming about it - one day later.
