Wow what a great find! Amazing food and service was excellent. Had a quick tour with the manager Jean, very knowledgeable and so passionate about the business. We will definitely be back
Another wonderful evening here! Great staff, full of life as well as amazing food! We defeintly stuffed our faces with have 2 pork bellies, crispy calamari, pork ribs, the prawns as well as the Camembert platter! And finished off with a lovely tiramisu.
Again leaving this resturant with a happy heart and full belly.
Very well priced for quality and quantity.
We visited Bouchon Wine Bar & Bistro the other evening and boy were we blown away.
The manager was welcoming and warm! We ordered a bottle of white wine and some nibbles and we were mightly surprised. The wine was out of this world and the eats were INCREDIBLE!!
Seriously, do yourselves a favour and go to Bouchon and you will not be disappointed.
Very easy and nice dinner. The location is intimate, soft lights and dark walls inside a wine cellar. Just like in a french bistro the tables are small , but big enough to fit our bottle of wine and a few tapas. They only serve those but all we had was tasty.
A quaint bistro/wine cellar in the heart of the city, excellent wine list paired with amazing tapas. I had the most amazing experience and will definitely be back again ;)
I’m sad it took me so long to visit the sister restaurant of one of my all time favourites, La Boheme. I was so pleasantly surprised. The decor is cosy and intimate and very welcoming. As usual I got the very best service from Faisal, and the chef and staff were phenomenal. They went out of their way to accommodate my allergies, as well as being a vegan whipped up the most delicious meals. The wine was one of the nicest I’ve had in a while and the pea risotto was dreamy. I can’t wait to return.
Very nice atmosphere, We were a table of three and ordered a variety of 12 plates in total, Not one of them disappointed. Definitely a hidden gem in Houd street.
Wonderful evening out with friends. Great atmosphere and we really enjoyed the touch of a little Gin trolley with great new flavoured and well thought out. The food was lovely and we selected a few dishes to share. The spring rolls and gnocchi were particularly nice.
All and all a fun evening out and will be back.
A lovely evening of tapas and wine at Bouchon! It's not too difficult to find and there's ample parking (if perhaps expensive) in the area.
We arrived early before the dinner rush and were treated to personalized, super quick service. We started off with complimentary cheesy breadsticks and were then visited by the gin trolly. Here, there are 5 different types of gin you can pick from, each coming with their own combination of flavors, from orange and grapefruit to olives and pink peppercorn. The combinations are endless and priced at R80 per drink.
We decided to share 5 tapas between the two of us. The tables are quite small, so they brought our food out in 2 "waves", sort of like starters and mains. First up was the mushroom risotto and the duck spring rolls. The risotto was delicious! Cheesy and cooked perfectly, being nice and warm but not too hot so that it burns. Very rich, so the perfect portion to share. The spring rolls were tasty, but I felt the filling was a bit underwhelming in comparison to the risotto. However, the dipping sauce worked beautifully with it - my better half went as far as to put some of it over his risotto!
Our next three dishes arrived soon after the first two - pork belly, chicken and potato gnocchi. Unanimously voted dish of the night was the pork belly - very fatty and a bit rich, but so soft and crispy. I've never had a fatty pork belly that wasn't chewy, so hats off to the chef for pulling it off! The skin was beautifully crisp and it worked well with the honey glaze. A close second was the gnocchi, which was also rich and juicy. I don't think it's the most inventive dish on the menu, but it certainly just lets the pasta speak for itself. Perfection on a plate (or in a bowl, in this cast). The letdown of the evening was the chicken, which was quite tasteless and something I wouldn't order again.
We couldn't resist ending with a mouthwatering chocolate brownie. Sinfully delicious, I think we were both disappointed that we had to share it!
I was expecting more from their wine list. Although they do offer a lot of by the glass wines, I feel the variety is quite limited and the international wines are too expensive. I struggled to find something that was to my taste and eventually settled on a glass a Chenin that was recommended to me by the sommelier. Average, nothing worthwhile in my opinion.
Quite an expensive evening out, with portion sizes being quite small and drinks being a bit taxing on the wallet. We enjoyed it, but you won't see us hanging out there every night. A quiet, intimate space perfect for a date and the large room in the cellar is ideal for hosting functions and parties. Delicious food, friendly and fast service. I'd recommend you give it a try at least once!
Absolutely fantastic!
On a side street in the CBD, this outstanding restaurant can be a little difficult to find but it's well worth making the effort.
The shop does not have any windows so as you walk in, it gives the impression of a wine cellar. This really suites the style of the shop, perfectly!
The wine list is superb and offers a number of wines on the list, by the glass. This is perfect for pairing different wines with the tapas selection. Every dish we had was superb. Seriously high quality food.
We were 6 without a reservation, we waited about 15 minutes and it was totally worth it. Delicious dinner, amazing drinks and excellent service. Seth was amazing and very forthcoming, he definitely made our experience memorable. Thanks!
The setting is truly unique and really a dining experience to remember, both outside in the garden and especially inside in the library. Service is interesting, but professional. Star is the food, absolutely stunning. Delicious.
This place seems to be nice for a group. As solo traveller, I made a booking in advance for dinner. The table was (unfortunately) right next to the entrance where you have less visibility on beautiful decorations. So I recommend to go as a group, more than 4 ppl. Had burger, very juicy patty, and a pint of beer. Will definitely try cocktails later. Oh, the dessert was actually Crème de la crème, dark chocolate fondant with burnt marshmallows and vanilla ice cream. You should try it. Yum!
An absolute gem in every context.
The decorations and overall atmosphere are close to perfect.
Service is friendly and great.
But the highlight is of course the food. An ideal selection, not too much, not too little, of high quality, incredibly tastefully prepared meals.
Highly recommend the oysters as a starter and and ostrich main.
Overall, a must visit for tourists and an incredible treat for locals.
Wonderful ambiance, highly attentive service, delicious wine menu and unique ostrich main made this place positively exquisite. The garden is nicely decorated for evening meals outside and the we finished with cocktails in the bar which was equally stunning. Can’t recommend the ostrich enough— easily one of the best meals I’ve had in South Africa!
Kloof Street House is an incredible restaurant with a bustling atmosphere and a constant flow of people. The food is top-notch and the hospitality of Forrest is truly exceptional. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with warmth and kindness, making you feel like a valued guest. The overall experience at Kloof Street House is nothing short of amazing and I cannot recommend it enough.
This was the best place we ate at in South Africa. My friend and I are both seasoned traveler with 50+ countries each and have eaten all over the world. This was one of the best restaurants we’ve been to. The atmosphere was amazing like a cozy living room. The service was great. Our waitress came over regularly to check up on us and have us good recommendations. The lamb was one of the best I’ve had but the stand out was the ostrich steak it was the best ostrich I’ve ever had by a mile. The chili grilled prawns was also really really good. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely time at Kloof street house. The food was delicious and there was a vast drinks menu to chose from. The ambience is cool and provides some good photo opportunities.
We did find the reservation process behind the times by having to email and also confirm the day before to email to avoid losing the reservation. It was also a cold evening and we couldn’t swap our outside reservation to inside but other than that would recommend.
Kloof Street House is a must-visit! With exceptional food, outstanding service, and a lively crowd, this restaurant truly stands out. Every dish was a delight, the staff were attentive and efficient, and the atmosphere was vibrant and inviting. Highly recommend for a memorable dining experience.
Ooh lah lah!!!!
What an amazing place with an amazing vibe! It is quite pricey but worth the money. The waitresses are stunning and the staff helpful.
Victorian-style restaurant with unique decor. Perfect place for drinks with friends or a romantic date night.
