Review Del Mar - Camps Bay

Anthony Collier
The best Mexican food I've ever had! We came from London and it was better than any I have ever had there! 100% go. We had our New year's dinner here with a set menu and it was amazing. Service was great and the venue looked amazing. Think the venue could do with some better signage to find but amazing. Thank you Del Mar.

Super Mexican food and a menu with good variety. We most appreciated the excellent waiter (shout out to Nkanyiso) who made proactive recommendations for menu choices and was attentive and helpful throughout, explaining the menu options and so forth. Great ambience as well, well worth a visit.

The food is good though bit pricy ( chips we have to buy separately except for burgers) ..Excellent customer service...the location and the ambiance is also nice...the view of the camps bay beach is stunning. Its great for special occasions.

Authentic Mexican cuisine with a modern take, delicious food, quiet atmosphere. However the food is not readily available as shown on the menu. Ordered the fish taco, and churros but they had run out / not prepared for the day, disappointing. All in all great food.

My wife and I love Mexican and this place blew us away! Ingredients are fresh, well presented and the dishes are absolutely delicious! Waiters are also very knowledgeable and are able to explain dishes and ingredients in detail. A must-try in Camps Bay!

We had a great dinner at Del Mar with the pork belly and tamal tapas being the highlight. A couple of tips: most of the food is spicy and isn't labeled that way so work with your server to select the right meal if you're spice sensitive. They also recommend 3 tapas per person which is overkill. My husband and I were quite hungry after a day of hiking and couldn't even put down 5 between the two of us. Overall the food was excellent, service was great, and the second level seating provides a decent sunset view.

Excellent Mexican food with a Tex-Mex flair, elegantly presented. Tequila lineup is also quite comprehensive, as could be expected! Expensive but worth it if you're feeling like treating someone to a great night out, especially if you arrive in time to see the sun set over the ocean.

Loved it! Far removed from all the other food choices in Camps Bay, and I can't thank them enough for it. It's on the first floor with an amazing view and removed enough from the street traffic to not feel as if you are in a crowd. Really, try it. Take your time though and try different things on the menu.

Great beach view. The sunset is gorgeous. Great Spicey foods

I have been coming here for a few years now, and it never fails to disappoint. The Mexican fare is full of flavour and beautifully presented. The service is good , and it's in a beautiful location (across the beach).

Lovely fusion of Mexican cuisine. And superb music to match the ambience.

Great food. Great location. Brilliant interior decor. Naidoo and his staff make you feel completely at ease and are always on hand to help; they really do go the extra mile and assist one in whatever way possible. Would recommend this place to anyone. Visitor from the UK.

Okay its the strip. So you can expect a great view; a few models; good expensive drinks and sunset cocktails ; I enjoy the theme setiing and as usual you pay for the position and the vibe.

There is simply no better Mexican cuisine in SA. If you are expecting over cooked, cheese laden and grease then this is the wrong place to be at. The food is OUTSTANDING!

A great laid back Mexican restaurant where we got a table without booking. Fantastic service from Yonella and great food recommendations too

So glad my friend suggested this place for midweek sundowners! Sipping on frozen margaritas while watching the sunset over Camps Bay sounded like the perfect idea.

Not wanting a stodgy meal, I opted for a bunch of little veggie plates which included refried black beans, chipotle salsa, guacamole, corn, roast veg served with flour tortillas and tortilla chips.

The salsa, the guacamole and flour tortillas were absolute life! Taste of Mexico right there! The chips were good too, however not the corn chips I was expecting to get but instead tasted like freshly made paaper bites. The roast veg is just that... included sweet potatoes, butternut, peppers and zucchini... kinda a strange mix for a Mexican place. I was actually expecting more of a fajita veg mix... it was still good though.

My friend ordered the veg fajitas. She generally liked the dish, but was not a fan of the salsa it was served with nor the halloumi cheese. She ended her meal with churros - which apparently weren’t the greatest.

I personally loved the dishes I ordered. No clue why this place was so empty when they serve the best guacamole in town (bring your own corn chips though).

Big shout out to the friendliest hostess and our awesome waiter, Dylan for being super attentive.

Enjoyed the tequila blue cheese burger. My friend had the guacamole bacon burger and enjoyed it too. Lovely special for equally delicious burgers.

Awesome place! A MUST for Mexican lovers! Don’t miss this hidden gem! Clean, authentic, absolutely delicious! The staff was wonderful and attentive. The margaritas were just right!

I opted for the prawns as well as tortillas at Del Mar.The tortillas were superb, however the prawns were a bit over cooked.I love the location of the restaurant as it has a spectacular view of Camps Bay beach and the service was friendly & efficient, worth a try.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly stuff members and the food was simply delicious. Oh can’t forget to mention the view from the restaurant. I high recommend this restaurant for any occasion #loveit #foodie

Great service and fantastic dishes - a burst of flavour with every bite! Can’t wait to visit Del Mar again. Remember to book a table outside for a view of the ocean.

Del Mar provides you with a total taste experience of authentic Mexican served in a modern way. After eating there a number of times now, each dish has been equally delicious and the passion exudes from all the staff as well. Best Mexican food in the country.

My boyfriend booked our birthday dinner here. Perfect choice as the location was super romantic with beautiful views of the ocean. The restaurant was surprisingly empty considering we went on a sunny Friday evening in December.

The food here is Modern Mexican. I ordered the chorizo and cheese quesadillas. It was very filling. However the chorizo tasted more like plain ham and less spicy than what I was hoping for. My boyfriend had the fish tacos which were good but again could have been spicier. The food was meh considering the price.

The tasty hot sauce, delicious cocktails and churros saved the day. I would come here again for sundowners and a snack. If you are craving Mexican food, there are better priced and tastier establishments in CT than Del Mar😋

Service was good.

The food was exceptional. We had a selection of dishes and couldn’t fault one. Authentic Mexican food elevated. The frozen margaritas went down a treat too. Well done!!

Had tried out this place during our SA trip in September. Nice place to visit if you want to try out Mexican in Camps Bay and enjoy the sunset as well.We tried nachos, guacamole, prawn with jalapeño and prawn with onion, paprika and ended with some churros. All the items were good. The cocktails were decent too. Service is a tad slow though.

I loved this place , I had tacos 🌮 as expected from a maxican an restaurant, very spicy but loved the food .i had a margarita one or two oh maybe 3 who was counting.but really good service and it's also a very clean and chilled place .

So I've been on the hunt to find really great Mexican restaurants because I'm convinced I was Mexican in my past life(lol). Came across Del Mar and it was okay I guess. Service was fantastic. We were the only people there at the time but our waiter made sure we were comfortable and basically explained the entire menu to us. Food was okay. The chilli poppers were super soggy and we ended up eating one and wasting the rest because it was dreadful. The nachos weren't the best. The burger was average. Bill was pretty hectic but I don't really feel like I got the Mexican experience I was hoping for. Oh well. Spurs nachos were sadly better :(

By far one of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town. Coming from Melbourne it's harder to find decent Mexican but this place nails it. Everything is amazingly tasty and I will always bring people here for a nice surprise. Definitely a hidden gem and get here before everyone hears about it. Views also just an added bonus

Wonderful food, diverse menu, knowledgeable staff and excellent service. Loved the Queso Fundido and Barbacoa lamb. Great view and plenty of heaters for winter

This is probably the most quiet restaurant at the prom. Their cocktail menu is rather limited though however the margaritas are quite boozy so be careful. I had the tacos and I wish they were the hard kind but they were still spicy nonetheless. I do think that their portions could be more generous though considering their prices. The service was also on point.

Quite and discreet, with some great views. Lovely for sundowners whilst still providing you with shade from the elements.

Their Mexican theme was well catered for on the menu, with many diverse dishes spread across all the courses so plenty of options. I had the Enchilada, and I must say the tomatillo sauce was really fantastic, spicy but not overpoweringly so.

Whilst their cocktails are good, they cocktail menu itself is limited (of 9, 6 were margaritas).
Nonetheless, they were well prepared and one could definitely not accuse the bar man of skimping on the alcohol.

Good place, I'd make a return definitely.

We went to Del Mar for dinner, WORST MISTAKE !! what a horrible experience. The food was bland. I have had Mexican food before and this place's food lacks flavor. Don't get me started on the service, our waitress was so unfriendly and the manager could not have been bothered. I would never recommend this place to anyone...

We had a lunch here almost expressly for the Camps Bay view. That never disappointed, but the rest of the experience was a bit lacklustre. Meant to be a modern take on Mexican, the menu has quite a large variety and is pricey. Our meals were ok. The burger tasted more like lamb than beef which was a disappointment. Salad was fairly good. Nachos ok, with a good salsa verde. Restaurant was quite empty though, so felt a little sad. Service was prompt but a bit vague. Overall decent, but a bit ho-hum.

The whole Camps Bay strip is starting to look very tatty for some reason. The restaurants are all either a little bit dirty or a little bit tired. Or both. Spruce it up, it's meant to be one of Cape Town's key attractions.

Delicious food, superb service. This is definitely a restaurant worth visiting when in Camps Bay. Be sure to make a booking to ensure you get a spot as the place gets very busy.

Decided to take a group of 6 friends for lunch at Del Mar. overriding sentiment from all of us was that the food was off the hook amazingly tasty and enjoyable. Highly recommend that you let the waiter take you on the journey.

I had such a wonderful experience at Del Mar.
The service was great and the venue is wonderful both during the day and night.
There are many great options to choose from. They make a delicious three cheese fondu with red beans.
The portion size is great and the food is full of flavour. We ordered a few items and then shared this.
Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

Probably the best Tex-mex in Cape Town! Enjoyed the food, nothing fancy. Service was helpful and courteous. Would recommend for a relaxed atmosphere with children or without. Guacamole was terrific, highly recommend.

Really really great Mexican food. Best in Cape Town I'd say. Ingredients are fresh and tasty, dishes are well balanced and extremely flavourful, authentically Mexican always.

Del Mar overlooks Camps Bay beach in a beautiful setting with beach goers buzzing just off the balcony. Great ambience and service too.

We ordered the lime dressing with beans, coriander, cream cheese, coriander, cheddar, guacamole on shredded lettuce. (Served in a chip bowl - so good!)
Fresh masa flat bread with beans, cheese and prawns
Grilled prawn with peppers and onions tacos
Grilled beef with roasted chillies and spring onion tacos

We also ordered extra guac - their guac is truly exceptional. You don't see the coriander but you get the flavour as soon as you taste it.

We had some cocktails that were good enough and ended off with churros. They're served with homemade chocolate sauce and caramel sauce and they're absolutely perfect. Soft and crispy and light and sugary - so so yummy.

A simply beautiful experience - the menu is brilliant and sublime, surrounds are understated and a fantastic selection of Mexican alcohol.
This is Mexican fine dining Cape Town style.
Fish tacos a favourite of mine - yum-yum!!!
And the churros... well, it is at times like this that I wish I was a ruminant with a load of stomachs to fill.
You won't regret your meal here.

Nothing better than a corona overlooking camps bay beach while sun sets and a good plate of chimichangas... I real gem of a restaurant that I find myself visiting each time I come down to Cape Town. One of cape towns best kept secrets!

We had a positively wonderful Sunday lunch at Del Mar in Camps Bay.
A large family group, we placed ourselves in the capable hands of their accomplished and professional waitress.
A steady supply of aweinspiring mouthwatering dishes flowed on to the table. I have died and woke up in heaven!
Del Mar serves Mexican fine dining. Polished would be the accurate description.
The meal was divine, outstanding.
The desserts - Chocolate Fondant in small copper pots, home made icecream and churros - their churros are worth killing for - allmost!
And then the view across the beach to the ocean.
My only gripe was the poor neglected potplant in the washrooms - I hope it had been resqued since ;)Suzanne Geldenhuys Julian Reeve Marianne Louw

I've been to Del Mar at least 4 times and every time the food is faultless. What is sketchy is the service. So variable! Twice they able run out of tortilla chips. This place should be packed given the location and the food but it just never is. Poorly managed and marketed by the Bukhara group. Would hate to see this place close down! Please do something.

Went to Del Mar for my birthday dinner. We were a table of 7, and what a great experience! We tried a little of everything and I have to say, I was impressed. This is authentic, real, Mexican food. Not the Tex-Mex crap you get everywhere else in South Africa (being an American, I know and love my Mexican food). This is "up-market" Mexican. Our waiter Dylan was a star - very knowledgeable about all the dishes available and he made GREAT recommendations! Great margarita and tequila selections as well. You must give Del Mar a try, you will not be disappointed!

Del mar was a good experience. We were a table of 6 people. Lovely views. The food was amazing and delicious. For main meals I'd recommend having the tapas menu . We shared 4 tapa plates between two people. Some people on the table ordered one main meal off the menu which wasn't as amazing as the tapas. The pork belly tapas and stir fry beef tortilla was my favorite :) the churros were good however I would have enjoyed a more chewy consistency on the inside . The coconut ice cream is phenomenal and I may just go buy it for the beach instead of my granadilla lollys lol.

Food was really tasty, authentic Mexican experience. My favorite was the beef stir fry tortilla. I think that a better selection of tequila is required but other than that the experience was overall amazing.

Excellent gourmet contemporary Mexican cuisine in Camps Bay. The only good restaurant as far as I can gauge. gorgeous views overlooking the beach . Try the bass- really good. The anchovy salad is also amazing. It's tapas so don't order too much initially. The tortillas I had with the black bean sauce were quite tough as were the 'crisps' with my salad- those were not palatable. Haute Cab Pinot noir R75 a glass which is steep. All in all a good experience and I will be back. Our waiter Dylan was top notch.

Management I understand that this is the festive season but I brought guests from USA here and actually I am very disappointed with the sub- standard service ... Been here before and it was awesome but today very disappointed ....
Think u needed to beef up your service levels food has been great so far though 😅
Bad service is a bummer had about 4-5 different waiters already for the night ....
Highly anticipated but greatly disappointed. Being part of the Bukhara group my expectations were high. Although we were greeted warmly and treated with much enthusiasm by our waiter, we found her lingering presence to be a tad overbearing. It may be because we were amongst only four other parties in quite a big restaurant. Being a Saturday night the place was empty with little to no atmosphere. The menu, while extensive, is extremely confusing and despite asking asking for it to be explained, my partner and I were left a bit clueless. We opted for a selection of tapas style starters due to the lack of creativity of the mains. The highlight of the evening would have to be the sweet ending. CHURROS!! Admittedly it was the sole reason for our visit. Luckily I left with a sweet taste in my mouth after what I thought quite a "bitter" meal.

A family friend recommended the restaurant so the family decided to make a booking. From the moment we walked in I was truly impressed. The decor is sophisticated and really sets the tone for the dining experience.

There was a snag at the start of dinner but the manager found a way to accommodate our large group. The service was good our waiter Reeza took care of us. They also accommodated the kids.

The menu is a modern take Mexican food with bold flavours. The food did take a while to arrive, but it was worth the wait. The food was cooked superbly and the portions were generous (None of us had space for dessert). We shared our tacos and I enjoyed the carnitas and the lamb. You are encouraged to share and that really is the best way to eat. I look forward to my next visit.
