Good service with a nice atmosphere. My favorite Ocean Basket in Johannesburg

Excellent, well worth a visit. The food is well-prepared and this branch has friendly, efficient and unobtrusive staff. I am writing this however in September I am referring to my experience before covid lockdown. A few days ago I drove past and I was under the impression that this branch might be closing down sadly? It seems like it when I drove past? Do phone to check and confirm first if you plan on going. It would be very sad indeed if this branch closes due to covid.

Good service and good quality - among the better of the franchises in the area. I usually swap the chips for stir fry and this Ocean Basket seems to have the freshest vegetables. Waiter did mess up my order on the last visit (got fish fried instead of grilled) but it was isolated considering the number of times we've eaten there. Maybe make sure he/she writes it down.

Had a beautiful birthday lunch. That is my favorite ocean basket in Joburg. They never disappoint. The service is always friendly and they know me by my first name. Def a relationship there. Thanks for keeping up with the standard.

This is one of the best OB's I've been to lately. Service was prompt and friendly, with our waitress checking on us without being intrusive. We had a sushi platter to start, and it was fresh and well prepared. I had the Dorado with stir fried veggies, which for once wasn't oily. My boyfriend "wasn't hungry" after the sushi, but helped me with my meal quite a bit. My only complaint is their drinks. I had a daiquiri, which tasted very syrupy. And the tequila was served warm. All in all, I'd definitely recommend it. But maybe stick to the stuff that arrives ready-made.

The best Ocean Basket franchise my wife and I have been to; we are definitely regulars here! My wife loves their calamari and hake and I generally go for either the delicious grilled sole or salmon. We also normally get a plate of lemon Mediterranean sushi, which is such a tasty and different kind of sushi. Also, as a particular stand out for me, is that they are one of the few places that will actually give you really crispy chips/fries if you ask for it :)

Pleasant evening. Weather was good so we sat on the balcony. Food is always good. I don't know what you do to your feta but it's amazing

The location is nothing special. The ocean basket adheres to the standards of the chain, kind personnel. Good and reliable, good food on an ample choice of fish dishes, excellent value for money.

The usual experience, but they handled the calamari and grilled fish better than at other outlets. Generous extra scoop of lemon butter sauce.

Really fresh well-cooked fish, and the rest of the food was just as good. Quick service, cheerful waiters. Reasonably priced. Will visit again.

Great food...great service. The best Ocean Basket in the whole of Johannesburg. Great service with the smile, hot and tasty food. My go to restaurant.

The service is always prompt here.  The fried calamari and rice always to the same standard.  I think that they could put a little more salt in their food to give it flavour.  When sitting inside it gets very 'smokey' maybe they need to invest in a better extractor fan.  Overall it is acceptable.  The waiters are friendly.

I love eating at Ocean Basket! It has amazing sushi and calamari, as well as prawns. I usually get sushi, or a seafood platter. I would highly suggest this restaurant.

Whenever we walk into this restaurant it feels like we dining with friends, yip we are here very often. Always warmly greeted and served with excellence.<br/><br/>We love and enjoy all the dishes and the waiters know exactly how we like it served. Musi - the manager always checks on us making sure we are happy.<br/><br/>Highly recommended - the only Ocean Basket we enjoy.

Well now was I not pleasantly surprised 😳 I have not been to this restaurant for about the last 6 years. My daughter wanted fish so we decided to go here, it was great. The food was really good, tasty and so satisfying. I was really impressed and we really enjoyed it. The staff is fine this is not fine dinning so they are not trained in the fine art of waiting, but they are still good.

Went in to this place yesterday to get food to take home. The service was good, and food came very fast but these Zucchini fritters where probably the most disgusting things I have ever tasted. In the first place that’s not a zucchini fritter as I know it, but some kinda grated zucchini hash brown oily patty 😝. Our fish in our platter also smelt funny and tasted funny. We went and got sushi somewhere else! <br/><br/>I don’t think I’ll return

My family and I arrived at the restaurant pretty late on Sunday night after watching a show. One of the waitress was a bit annoyed with our arrival as she informed us the restaurant closes at 8:30pm and it's 8:29pm! <br/><br/>My husband called prior to us coming through, and the person on the phone said it was alright to come through. <br/><br/>Despite of her attitude, our waiter Chris was wonderful! He took the drink order and then our main, he never rushed us, and let us enjoyed our meals ! <br/><br/>The food out from the kitchen was YUMMY 😋 <br/><br/>We will definitely be back !!!

Decided to visit this restaurant for a casual Sunday night dinner. We had sushi, a seared salmon salad to start, as well as salmon sashimi & salmon fashion sandwiches for our mains. I could taste there was something a bit unusual about the salmon, so I didn’t finish my food. The next morning when I woke up, I found myself extremely sick, I had been vomiting the whole day, and the worst part was that I had a 10 hour flight to catch later on that day, luckily enough, I was able to recover by the early evening. Would not recommend this restaurant and definitely will not be visiting again after that experience.

One of the better and bigger ocean baskets around. Standards are good but obviously by ocea basket standards. Worth a shot only if you are an OB fan

Ocean basket is not my favorite go-to place for seafood , However they're quite reasonably priced and close to home. I enjoyed the prawn starter with a herby lemon Mayo! Yum! & the fish and chips with rice never disappoints. The village salad 🥗 is a must try , I dream of the creamy feta they use in their dish.

If you are in the surrounding areas definitely come grab a quick lunch or dinner here! I love the vibe here as the waiters are super friendly and service is good! I always order the pangasius and salad which is delicious. The calamari and vegetables are so good and you get a generous portion which is superb!!

Ocean basket has a birthday special for today! R21 for fish and chips, I came to the one down the road from my office park, fried chips and fresh fish was the order of the day. Not bad for 21 bucks

We decided to have an early evening dinner as the restaurant is quite nearby.<br/>We walked in and were immediately seated. Out editor was very attentive and service was actually super fast.<br/>We ordered sushi as a starter and then I had the prawn and chips. The food tasted great, the food was full of flavor. An enjoyable meal indeed.

Stopped by Ocean Basket for a quick dinner and opted for the salmon platter. The sushi was fresh and tasty and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend it.

Always my first choice when it comes to that seafood craving. Decided to taste the new Mediterrassian sushi and boy did it hit the spot! Tasted amazing...my tastebuds did a backflip or three. Bravo on the consistency, it dosnt go unnoticed :-)

Sometimes one just wants good service and a decent meal at a decent price, and that's generally what we get at this particular OB. After more than a year away, Our most recent visit was on Monday, which was sweltering. Sadly, the aircon under which we were seated wasn't working too well, but the service and food made up for that. <br/><br/>Our waiter was friendly and charming, and explained our dishes well when we asked (I, for one, did not know that the lemon butter contains flour, to which I am allergic). Their new menu is fun and eye-catching, but still doesn't contain a mention of squid heads - it's a good thing we know about these delicious morsels. <br/><br/>To follow, my husband had the prawn curry (and cleaned out the dish with his finger because it was so tasty). I had grilled Basa (Pangasas) with stirfry - delicate and delicious.<br/><br/>Definitely a good place for a friendly, comfortable meal.

Fresh fish and laid back atmosphere. Not every Ocean Basket has good quality food, but this one is an exception to the rule. The food is always tasty and quick, it has a very casual dining atmosphere which make for a nice family meal and the staff are very friendly. It's easy to eat healthy here too, and value for money is great!

A nice spot upstairs with a deck which is perfect for the hot days and nights. <br/><br/>I came here for lunch on a very hot afternoon. Grilled fish with lemon butter sauce accompanied by a village salad. <br/><br/>The fish was slightly under-cooked for my personal taste. <br/>The salad - you can't go wrong with an Ocean Basket salad- creamy feta cheese, crisp cucumber, juicy tomatoes and olives in a wonderful balsamic vinegar dressing. <br/><br/>The waitress was very friendly and knew when to come to the table and when to leave me to enjoy my meal. <br/>

This is always a favourite as the quality of any meal I have ever eaten here is always good whether it be sushi or fish and vegetables. The service here is super efficient and have never had to wait more than 15 to 20 minutes for my food.

This became a office favourite when they opened up as it was down the road from our offices and even had my birthday lunch herr with colleagues. It was at this branch when i first ordered a greek salad from and loved it so much i always order from OB when i go there. Something about their salad dressing was just divine and the others dont taste exactly the same. The fish here is good and the calamari isnt bad (still cant beat the emperors branch).

Went for a quick meal last night, the food was good and service quick, we ordered Irish coffees and the cream ontop was sour! The food is good value for money just lacks overall atmosphere.

Nice and friendly service from Trish B. Ordered the Fish & Veggies. Could not go wrong with that. Spinach was not that great today. Butternut was nice.

I walked in for a quick bite to eat for lunch and loved the openness of this little place. This Ocean Basket is tucked away in a corner of Coachmans Crossing and this has automatically become my favourite Ocean Basket around. Complimentary bread and the traditional Ocean Basket choice of sauces arrived as we were seated - I love nibbling on something while I wait for my order to arrive. <br/><br/>Sadly, the service on this particular visit wasn't incredible, but their 'specials' and lovely, fresh food, was really wonderful. <br/><br/>I love the fact that they have a separate little menu with the weekly specials on it and I loved the combinations of seared salmon & avo with sushi on my 'Salmon Suprise' platter. The Portuguese sardines and stir-fry vegetables were also a winner!  <br/><br/>*Recommendation: When it comes to value-for-money, if you are wanting seafood or sushi, this Peter Place Ocean Basket is a gem!

Good value for money, good service and great lemon butter sauce on the calamari and prawns. I head to this Ocean Basket often for a quick bite and it's always pleasant. The food comes quickly and is tasty. The service is friendly and efficient. It's nothing fancy but still nice. Their new sushi menu is also quite impressive. I will be giving that a try next time I go. Definitely a winner of a place if you looking for a well priced quick bite out.

This ocean basket is always reliable food good food and quick service had a variety of meals and they are always consistent in there quality good value for money as well.

I have visited many Ocean Basket outlets in the past and service and quality of food varies in all of them. This branch is one of the best I have visited. It just has a clean fresh feeling about it, is nice and spacious, and the food lived up to my first impression of the restaurant. Nice and fresh, no time delay and efficient service in and out in under an hour. Just what you want when on the run. Will return soon.

Very nice store and friendly staff. The location is a bit weird, it's above the Spur, but once your inside the store is very welcoming. They do have a covered outdoor seating. My only concern was the vibe in the store, the store is rather empty, but then again I was in the there over the lunch period. I have no complaints or issues at all.
