Review Taste Of India - Bryanston

Today was my first time at this beautiful restaurant and the first impression was absolutely mind blowing! Walking in we experienced a stunning traditional environment and were welcomed by extremely friendly staff. The food was impeccable! The service was splendid! The view from inside the restaurant was breath taking! Covid protocols well followed! Great overall experience 10/10

We went for a birthday. The food was delicious 😋 the personal service was excellent and the view of Jhb (could even see the Dome and the Randpark Ridge Boskruin where we stay) was awesome. Loved it and will definitely be back. Thank you. JGT.

Best Curry I have ever had! Wonderful staff. Great atmosphere too.

I bought mutton beef biryani from Taste of India. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by their portions, so much meat instead of just potatoes like in other restaurants and the rice they use is basmati instead of parboiled like in other places. The taste was authentic (like the way briyani is supposed to taste) and also refreshing with their side salad and sauce. I will definitely order from here again.

What a view! Food was great and meat was not overdone or dry 👍. Was also very surprised at the impressive drinks and cocktail menu

Awesome food and service. The view is epic of the jhb City Skyline. So recommend their delicious food.

Authentic Indian food. Lovely view and good decor

I have never had a sit down meal here but I went to collect a take away meal, it was the most delicious food. They have a absolutely incredible view, like nothing I've seen before from restaurants in Bryanston area. It's worth seeing!

Had a kids birthday celebration and enjoyed a lot. All my guests have enjoyed the party, the food was awesome and venue hall is also has plenty of space to accomodate all my guest. Music arrangements is such a way that you can play your own songs during the party. Highly recommend.

Awesome restaurant and best for catering events. We attended a friend's party yesterday, the food was delicious. The staff was hospitable and they made sure the food was at perfect temperature so that everyone could enjoy it in chilly weather. Highly recommended.

The place offers you good quality Indian food, I have enjoyed my food evert single time n never disappointed with the taste. Just a suggestion little work required on atmosphere to make it more vibrant.

The food was amazing, ambiance was great and the staff were friendly and efficient. Will be back soon.

Sadly we found it extremely quite, and that ruined the atmosphere. It is an awesome restarant, and deserves to be right a the top of the list if you are in the mood for Indian food. The food is first class, and the portion size presents good value for money.

A very good restaurant with a great taste, nice seating area and a very humble owner with a great staff. Nice view outside of the restaurant...

If you are looking for authentic Indian soul food, this is the place for you! Most pleasant staff and top notch customer services. Been there twice with my family, and must say buffet and from the menu order taste equally good. Ambience and vibes is a different level all together. With large sitting area allowing you to move freely within the restaurant (unlike suffocating curry smelling food joints). View of the city from the top, where you can spend your whole evening staring at the sunset till the supper time. Extremely good bargain for a quite relaxed drinks and bellyful meal. Cant wait to visit again with my parents next time.

My colleague has been raving about this restaurant for months. She always orders take out for Lunch. Until about an hour ago I was convinced it has great food. Until she found a cockroach in her lamb briyani. Absolutely disgusting!!!!! Did I mention that it was cooked?

We had a great meal on Friday. The servers were well trained and very knowledegable. Their suggestions resulted in a very satisfying night out.

Went there today for a weekday lunch as we wanted to use The Entertainer App and use the buy one get one free offer. Only when we wanted to pay they indicated that lamb and seafood dishes are not included in The Entertainer. Checked with The Entertainer and they said all main menu offerings are included unless specified in the offer which they didn't specify. So meaning Taste of India is not honouring the rules of program and makes it up along the way. Very disappointed in them for their dishonest behavior.

Phoned in an order for collection, arrived and waited for 45 minutes, watching Uber eats deliveries prioritised over walk in customers, only to be told by a junior staff member they don't have ordered item in stock. No apologies, no word from management nothing. Pity, since normally their food is great. Won't go there again.

I saw that their rating was 4.0 on this site so decided to give it a try. I ordered through orderin and the food arrive promptly, well before the time advised which was very good. Sadly that is where the positive review stops. I ordered the butter chicken and it was unpleasant to eat. A number of the pieces of chicken were burnt and it did not taste anywhere near freshly cooked. I am very saddened as the restaurant clearly has potential judging by the other ratings, it clearly needs to work on consistency.

Their curry is decent comfort food. I usually order the chicken curry lunch special. It comes with either two rotis or rice. It is very filling and affordable. Their service is exceptionally fast. Unfortunately, lately they haven't been cooking the rotis properly and they have raw parts on them. The curry taste has also been a bit inconsistent.

Very very good place to have Indian food.. we just were here for a friend's party and no regrets for having selected this place...the service was 100% and quality of food and taste too was awesome... No difference in their both branches.. perfection defined :)

We had supper there last night. Service is great and lady who helped me was polite. We placed a take away order. Very fast and efficient. Food is tasty and very generous portions. Really great place to visit

Food was delicious. Service wasn't great. Restaurant had 5 tables with people and 2 waiters but seemed 1 waiter was serving all tables. Was a little cold next to huge windows on a winter eve.
Food was delicious. Will give it another try.

This is the best Indian restaurant in Johannesburg. We had the veg n nonveg platters for starter and chicken tikka masala for main course . Food was great but the best part was the ambience . We went around sunset and got to see a wonderful view from the restaurant .

Large portions of flavorful, aromatic food. Stunning view of the Westrand at night. Fast friendly service. We ordered a chicken biryani and aloo matta gobi. Both meals were absolutely flawless. We wil definitely be back.

Situated at the Sloan Centre on the first floor. A good setup with real Indian decor. Service is a bit slow however the food is good. Real ethnic Indian Indian food. If you seated at the window you will have quite a view.

so I went to this place finding it on the entertainer app. if it wasn't for the app I would never of known about it; and im glad I went. they were so friendly and oh my word the view is amazing....the food was so tasty and good portions and the pricing is reasonable. if you want good Indian food this place is the place to go

A stone's throw from the office so when someone shouts, "who's up for curry?", most of us say yes..
It's all very formal inside but eating with your hands is not frowned apon. These curries are so good you have to lick your fingers!
Try a "Steelworks" with the Madras curry, definitely sorts out the burn..
Butter chicken is superb and so is the Rogan gosht.
Service was a tad slow but the waiters were friendly and the drinks were cold.
Definitely worth more than a visit or two.

I ordered a chicken bunny chow through UberEATS. The delivery and service from Uber was great; the bunny chow however was plain awful. It was not a curry, it was left over bits of chicken that tasted a lot like they’d been in an Indo-Chinese dish, that got thrown into a slapdash sorta curry sauce and placed in a quarter loaf. This was no curry, it wasn’t aromatic with spices, the gravy did not look or taste like a proper curry, I felt like I was eating a Chinese dish as opposed to a South African bunny chow. It was awful, I had two bites and threw the rest away. R72 later.

Ahh.. the taste and smells of India. What a romantic name for the ghost of "the maharaj" imagine our disappointment at the empty restaurant (spolier alert ) mediocre service, mediocre food and less than mediocre response to our complaint of the food. Samosas, dry, floury, oily, thick dough triangular wads of tomorrows early morning consitution. A lamb vindaloo as weak as our presidents excuses and made with the remains of what I can only imagine was an old wily mountain goat that eventually got caught. Tough, dry and bland. Butter chicken serving was decent, but dhal makhine watery and flavoured with knorrox at best. For R1100 the chicken licken up the road would have been better value for money. Really disappointing meal. They made a sale, but lost a customer.

Amazing food and best value for money. This place definitely deserves more love and attention. Definitely a house favourite. Just can't get enough.

We always go to Taste of India for their absolute delicious roti rolls! Their manager is always so kind and welcoming its one of the reasons we always go back!
Wendy
Prices a bit too high for the food you get. Not a good value for money. Also be aware if you order 2 cups of masala tea, they will only give you one portion but you pay for two. So not worth it. When I asked the waiter to give me two tea jugs and not one, they took the same jug and went back kitchen and separate into two smaller jugs. When I asked them this is a not right, they took the same tea back and re-boil it with more water, so tasteless and diluted. I felt they ripping you off, just because you not from India doesn't mean you don't know how India cruisine taste like#!$% The briyani taste is terrible too, no flavours. Highly don't recommend you going there.

I don't know if it was because I had a takeaway from this place, but it wasn't all that great. Had the lamb curry, asked for medium option and I got not hot at all. I was charged for delivery, yet my office is literally across the road. Not sure if I'll be going back.

The food is absolutely devine. The lamb biryani and prawn biryani are well prepared, succulent and bursting with flavor. Absolutely amazing. The service is great, staff are friendly. The scenery at night in tranquil and very calming. One of my favourite Indian restaurants.

Service was really good. The food was freshly prepared and was really tasty and tasted really authentic. Price;s are really good as well. Really enjoyed our dining experience. Will be bak again soon.

Had the lamb biryani... it was one of the best north Indian biryanis I've had in Gauteng. Ordered a takeout and expected it to have less meat but it was a huge portion loaded with meat :D

Probably the worst Indian food we have ever eaten. I don't understand the rating of this restaurant. We had the Sunday Buffet selection so we were able to sample a few of the dishes. Sadly the naan was the tastiest thing we ate. Old and refried onion badjia, thin lentil soup parading as "Dahl makenhie", sour paneer tika masala, tasteless chicken biryani... The staff were friendly and attentive but couldn't make up for the poor food. We paid as quickly as we could to head to our favourite spot. Sorry Ghazal on Peter Place, we will never cheat
on you again.

What a wonderful gem , service is genuine and the food is lovely. The secret is the stunning view from the window that looks over west jhb. Have yet to be disappointed and they really deserve a sit down visit!
Tanya
Went to Taste of India for their Sunday Lunch Buffet, had a 3 course meal, trying a variety of different dishes in addition to the regular favorites like butter chicken and lamb Rogan Josh. All curries were mild which suited the rest of the family, personally I can't wait to try something warmer. Service was excellent, we will definitely be back.

We tried this restaurant over December & it was very quiet due to the holidays. We went again last night & it was quiet but it's a long weekend so unsure what the vibe is like when it's busy. We love it!
The prices are way cheaper than other places like Raj. The service is great, very attentive. Food is always hot (temperature) and never disappoints. We shared the starter platters, onion pakora is my fav! I really should try something else but always default to butter chicken. I prefer naan than rice but rice is included - bargain! We were too full to order dessert but it arrived, on the house! We will definitely return!

I have been looking for a place to get a good bunny chow near Fourways and have always come up short until now. I had the mutton bunny chow and I could not fault it. It was packed with lots of meat and gravy and was simply delicious. I would rate this a 5 if it came with some sambles. I ordered take away though I look forward to a sit down meal.

Ordered dinner for my family last night. We love indian cuisine but have not found a restaurant that is affordable with great food...until last night. We ordered the chicken curry, the lamb korma and the chicken palak, with one roti, one butter naan and rogni naan. WHAT an experience!!! the food was firstly delivered earlier than expected (thank you to orderin.co.za) and was piping hot. The naan breads were massive and the taste of the food was absolutely hands down without a doubt the best any of us had ever had. The meat was tender, the curry full of flavour and the portions more than generous. To my absolute delight there was still some korma and chicken palak left over with half a naan for me to enjoy for lunch today. The whole meal came to R295.00 (including delivery fee). My husband and I were so impressed. He orders curry for lunch at least twice a week (he works for an indian owned business with many indian food vendors in the area) and he felt that compared to last night's food the other curried that he previously enjoyed tasted watered down. Absolutely exceeded our expectations. We will certainly order a meal from there every week...Thank you so much for the pleasant experience

Listen guys, there seems to be an overwhelming influx of people using some form of colouring in Indian cuisine these days, and its uncalled for.... I'm coloured already, and I don't need more secondary tones to contribute to my already "darker than most" face. However, this establishment realizes that and I love them for it! Well done Amigos!

Visited Taste of India on a random Tuesday evening - the place very quite. I tried their chicken palak, one of the best I've ever had!

The service was amazing, 3 waiters came around to keep checking on us.
The food was delivered within 15min. Which is very good.

It's fairly priced as well.

Will definitely go back there again.

I am so impressed with this restaurant!!! I ordered takeaways a few days ago and decided to come and have lunch here!!

Atmosphere, staff and food is truly amazing!!!

Great sized portions, and excellent value!!

This will definitely become a local favorite!!

We were so impressed with both the food & service at Taste of India! We both had curries which were absolutely delicious. We also felt it was very good value for money. We will definitely be back 😊

Taste of India is a brand new restaurant in Bryanston that we happened to come across recently. The staff and management are incredibly welcoming and friendly and really go the extra mile to make sure you enjoy your meal. The restaurant is great and the booth seats have a lovely voew of Jo'burg. The food is all delicious as well. We tried the onion badjia to start and had the chicken vindaloo and chicken kak frejie with naan bread for main. Everything was delicious and full of fresh flavours. We also had the gulab jamun and Bombay crush for dessert which were super tasty and the perfect end to the meal. Taste of India is also a fair amount cheaper than some of the other Indian restaurants in the area so you get great value for money. I would definitely go back here for sit down or take away.

Amaaaazing Indian flavours delivered right to our doorstep! Perfect portion sizes and just felt like a home cooked meal - will definitely order again!

Very well done. We did a home delivery order. The food arrived on time and was 'piping hot' (oven warm). Amazing flavours. Had Vindaloo, Korma's and tikka chicken masala as well as a small starter with the family. Prices are great as well, compared to many other Indian style restaurants. Unexpectedly outperformed any of our expectations. Again for sure. Well played !
