Review Erawan - Bryanston

Malcolm Timberlake
An Elephant’s sufficiency. The reception is warm, seating is available outside, but a pleasant atmosphere inside was warmer on a chilly May evening. The far wall is decorated with an elephant representing the Elephant god Erawan. Our waitress Busi gave us the necessary space to familiarised ourselves with the Thai menu and an extensive wine list which includes pairing recommendations. An number of wine by the glass options are available. The sight of a passing Ben Koppen draught lager was too tempting for me. Sashimi portions were good, the Dim Sum pastry too thick for our liking but their Crispy Duck is a winner. We opted to share as the portion is very generous at the price. We walked out having had a very pleasant evening, an elephant’s sufficiency, and will return to try a number of the other dishes. It's winter and the soup looked really good.

Ambience tick.... Food tick.....great service tick.... Just forgot to bring our prawn bao.... But we were so full anyways. The deep fried prawn sushi was to die for. I love beautiful settings n great crockery. This was a true Thai experience. Just beautiful tick.
Angela Kavallieratos
Such an underrated restaurant!!! It's delicious, very well trained staff, and lovely setting.

Back again and the food as always is amazing. Despite this restaurant being in business, for what in JoBurg restuarant terms, is a long time, weekend evening reservations are the norm. The staff dealt with our small group efficiently and the beef noodle dish, top of the noodle list (I cannot remember the full name or spell it) was top class and the starter soup was a revelation in how tasty a veg soup can actually be.

Excellent dim sum. We had the crispy pork and cashew nut stir fry. Will definitely return - much to taste.

Delicious! I’m a fussy sushi eater, and this place has incredible standards. Salmon California rolls are more salmon than rice! Prawn roof is also amazing! Highly recommend
Louise Impey
Delicious thai dishes. Very generous portions and very tasty. Overall a lovely ambiance and good service. Will be back!

Very fancy in my opinion and enjoyed every moment. The waiter was very professional and friendly and made the experience even better. The food was incredible! We even asked to NOT make things spicy, as everything is, and they did. You also Pay for what you get - good quality and service. The cocktails are great and nice variety of international beers. You go here if you want the perfect service and feel fancy and have the money. I would suggest to only get different starters, and sushi and dim sum AND then share between each other!

I love this place, great setting, fantastic food and excellent service. Our waitress and the manager really went the extra mile, we had a friend with a mushroom allergy and they basically double checked the entire menu to let us know what was safe to eat. When the food came it was all delicious. Really enjoyed the experience. What a gem.
Maria Struwig-Carreira
Really lovely visit. Great lunch spot. Not sure about dinner though, will have to go and try the evening ambiance. Food was superb. Good portion size. Excellent service. I will go back and give them a second visit. I most certainly do recommend them.

Absolutely The BEST Thai restaurant in JHB North. Chicken / ginger Dumplings and the Prawn Tom Yum Soup is a must as starters. The chefs special Prawn Curry dish is a must for mains, it's hot but very tasty. Very comfortable seating and romantic. Enjoy x

They couldn't find out reservation, so we had to wait at the bar for a bit. The sushi was out of this world, but I was a bit disappointed with our dimsums. They were tiny and felt like they were undercooked. And the service was very good, except for the reservation issue. But in general, a good experience. Would definitely go back.

Food was excellent, ambiance was pleasant. Our waitress seemed a little distracted even though it was a quiet night however the manager was very good. Would have been 5 stars but for the tardy service which I am sure was not the normal standard. I will definitely go back.

Great restaurant and tasty dim sum menu. Wine list says which food would best pair with each wine. Recommend crispy duck with coconut rice. So delicious.

Set in a beautiful shopping Centre on the ground floor with tasteful decor, this Thai restaurant offers great service with excellent food. I had lunch with my wife and definitely will be back. I ordered pcrispy pork with chilli paste and crisp duck with egg fried rice paired with an excellent wine from their extensive wine list. Bravo for us foodies!

Delicious authentic Thai food! I love everything about this restaurant. The food is great, the service is good and the setting is nice and modern. Nice variety of food and drinks. Special tea selection. A definite must try!

Really impressed with Jintara
Amid all the chaos of Covid-19 I saw the staff clean menus and tables regularly.
Always served with a smile
I think this time calls for love and humility and this restaurant deserves to be supported
Mike
They've revamped and everything is superb. Great ambience, service, wine list and perfectly balanced Thai food. Will certainly be back and oh, did I mention the chocolate mousse!!
Thandi Mpanza
The food is always good especially my personal favourite, Crispy Duck. They have a cocktail hour on Fridays, perfect way to start a weekend 😀

The food here is always good.
Both Rose and I ordered meals with half chicken half prawns today. Rose got 2 prawns and I got 3.🙁
Other than the lack of prawns the meal was excellent as usual.
Victor
We ordered from Erawan and when we got home noted we only received half the order. Stan the manager, personally drove to come and deliver the remaining order after apologizing profusely for the error. The benefit of this was that the experience of the great food was extended
Lauren
The food here is to die for! I have been to Erawan three times now and it has been very consistent. Friendly and helpful staff and great Thai food and sushi.
Elle Mbadaliga
This is a very charming relaxed hidden gem. The food is mouth-watering. Service is excellent. The prices are quite reasonable. I should actually go more often

Went to Erawan on a Wednesday evening and I was surprised to see how busy the restaurant gets considering the location. Luckily we got there before 6:30pm so we were able to get a table for two without a booking other people that got there later had to sit outside on a cold winter night but at least they have heaters.

We ordered two dim sum for starters, a chicken coriander dumpling and a prawn dumpling. These were pleasant and tasty with the chilli dipping sauce.

For main I ordered a chicken cashew egg noodle dish as per the attached photo. I ordered medium and was slightly spicier than I had anticipated that being said it was still a delicious meal. My husband ordered Thai style and that was super spicy for a person who normally eats spicy food.

Overall, considering the zomato rating of this restaurant I was expecting much more. But service was good, food came out speedily and waiters were on point.
Nicole Du Plessis
I suppose the food doesn’t taste bad but it isn’t Thai food. They shouldn’t call themselves a Thai restaurant. If you want authentic Thai then this is not the place to come to.
Amit Raga
Birthday celebrations brought us to Erawan Thai. After reading the reviews, I anticipated a very different experience. Unfortunately the service was extremely disappointing. Some starters like dim sum were good but the spring rolls were off (the manager later confirmed this). The main meals were served but the service made it a negative experience without the manager or Waiter asking about our meals. Definitely would not recommend it despite the good flavours.
Nicole Adolph
So delicious! One of my top choices for Thai. The dim sum’s and spring rolls were tasty, the main dish of chicken cashew nut and chili paste is a winner every time.
Kerry Garden
Decided to try something different
Staff are very friends and good at their jobs.
Don’t go when you are hungry and need to eat the food takes a while to come out especially the sushi.
Sushi was very fresh, very enjoyable (it is a bit expensive)
I had stir fry with chicken and cashew nuts and my husband had chicken curry. We shared egg noodles as they come in quite a big portion. I thoroughly enjoyed my food and so did he. Lots of taste
Jessica SINGH
Freshest sushi I have has in a long time! Beautiful decor and amazing service and attention, especially on Valentine's night! Can't wait 2 return!
Vinolin Naidoo
Great food and service, especially considering the place was really full on a Friday night. The mains were large portions (I would recommend sharing).

Mains were excellent! The starters - pulled duck dim sum was deep fried, which I didn’t quite like. Too much dough and that’s all you could taste.

All in all - good place, great vibe, good value for money.
Hansley Jugar
Erawan came highly recommended, and after quickly and easily making a reservation on their website I was excited to get to experience their authentic thai cuisine myself.
Food: I shared dim sum for starters and had a red curry with chicken as a main. The dim sum was disappointing, barely any filling and super sticky. The curry on the otherhand was flavorful and very filling.
Service: The restaurant was very empty but service was surprisingly slow.
Atmosphere: Cozy and relaxed.
Verdict: Average dining experience in a nice setting.
O-Mizu Satori
We had some sushi and dim sum here which was all so good. The time lapse to get the food was a bit tardy, but after tasting it I understood why. The chef takes time in making the dishes to ensure perfection and I will definitely be back to try some Thai curry. Just make sure you aren't already starving upon arrival and you have time to wait.

Why do I rate Erawan a 5? Because it is always consistent and exceptional in terms of quality. The tables, chairs, crockery, glasses, and cutlery are classy and immaculate. The atmosphere is sublime in the daytime or evening. Service is professional and impeccable. But the food? Just the best there is in terms of Thai and sushi. You just cannot go wrong. Absolutely delicious. Such care taken. Not the cheapest but then you are getting a classy experience and that makes it really worthwhile. You get what you pay for and it is beautiful!
Robyn Imray
Food is absolutely delicious but don’t ever try ordering via Ubereats as the restaurant doesn’t prepare the food timeously so your delivery time just gets pushed out more and more. Expected food in 40 minutes and ended up with almost a 2 hour wait. Completely unacceptable.
Princess Niritika
Good ambience however a disappointing experience for a pure vegetarian as everything was pre-made with fish sauce or oyster sauce extracts, there was only one thing on the menu I could have, which was mediocre ! The non vegetarians had a good meal...management was not apologetic and if you are vegetarian for religious reasons then this place is a no no
Sabeeha Dawood
This restaurant has the best prawn cashew nut curry ever! I'd give this place a 5 star rating just based on this dish. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was slightly above average. The tom yum soup was nice but nothing to shout about. Sipped on many virgin cocktails and they were quite flexible about trying your own mix. The restaurant is elegant- I'd give it a 4 star. It was a pleasant experience.

25/8/18 - I have given Earwan a second chance at the behest of the owner and came back with the most critical staunch friend I have. Joshua was attentive and most helpful. The food was delicious we had wontons, sushi, crispy duck and noodles with black bean sauce (pretty much the same order as my last visit) but if a place does something pretty well, why stray? Unlike my last visit this time the manager in duty was Andrew who knows me from all my previous visits and he checked up on us several times. We shared a bottle of Klein Constantia bubbly which is by far one of my favourite local MCC. All round a much better food and service experience than my last visit the review is which is below. I am changing my score from 3 to 4

16/8/18- My friend and I came to Erawan cause we have always had good service in Wynberg but frankly we were denied a table that was open all night for a sub standard table cause Stan couldn’t be bothered to come and solve the problem we raised Busi our waitress tried but without the help of management it was an exercise on futility Stan thats a no from me! No no no why did you make
Me and my friend be liars because the reserved table is still empty #justsaying

After reading the reviews I was so excited to get Uber eats from Erawan. The pad Thai was so disappointing. No egg or shoots at all and minimal chicken. Simply Asia makes a better one! Unfortunately I will not be ordering here again

I am honestly not a fan of this restaurant. Ate here about 4 times already - once my choice the rest others.

Waiters have lack of knowledge on their dishes and drinks and food their food is nothing to rave about, nothing out of the ordinary. Whatever I ate here all the times that I was here was just ordinary.

Sorry Erawan - I travel and I am a foodie and you just don’t do it for me

Most amazing Thai food experience to date! Food was tasty and full of flavor. Service was quick and staff were friendly. There are lots of vegetarian options as well.. my favorite being the green curry!
Warren McKay
Our regular restaurant. Recommendation for ordering is the crispy duck and Khoi Soi Chiangmai noodles to share (spiced hot). Best taste combination on menu. Not a good place for vegan/strict vegetarian friends (it is a Thai restaurant).

Awfull experience last Saturday night. My strawberry cider glass was defectuous and the bottom suddenly failed when I was drinking. I had my cider on my new clothes and shoes. The waiter did not clean the floor under me, did not suggest to dry/clean my clothes and did not offer a new beverage! When I asked the bill, no reduction, apologize, nothing. I complained to the manager who just said sorry. When I came back at home after changing my clothes I called the manager who said he would make an inquiry with the cameras and come back to me! We never know! I could have invented that story for fun!
Sophie Baker
Amazing speciality sushi and wonderful thai soups! Will be back to try the noodle dishes. i found it reasonably priced for the size of the portions and particularly loved the tom kha. creamy, full of lime flavour and all round delicious.
Camilla
We had heard rave reviews from our friends about Erawan but had never been. We went last Friday night and we were not disappointed! We had a selection of starters and some sushi. Everything was absolutely delicious. Service was excellent and our waiter, Chris, recommended our absolute favourite dish of the night (the Goong Phad). It is quite pricey but for a treat, definitely worth it!
Caroline
I’ve been to Erawan a few times and i’ll go back many more! Their food is great from the dumplings and spring rolls to the thai curries. It’s always busy which is testament to their service and delicious food!

This was my experience with Thai food and I want more!!!

My wife and I shared the chis pak dim sum (filled with delicious butternut, feta & spinach) as well as the ones filled with chicken and ginger combination. It was amazing - nicely cooked dumplings with generous filling inside.

For mains i had the pad Thai stir fry (with chicken). Very delicious and more than generous portion.

Service was a little slow and it was very busy. Try to make a reservation as this is a popular place. For a first experience with Thai food, I was impressed with this place.

Such a cute restaurant, really Serene atmosphere with delicious food. Waitering staff were attentive and evenly spaced to assist you on request. With the right company and in mellow shopping centre at night, it made for the perfect quiet foodie experience.

For starters I had 3 of the dim Sims and for the main, my favorite, Tom yum going soup hot. I would definitely recommend a visit. A Friday night spot.
James Barrow
Food is good but a little bit too pricey in my opinion. Have had the thai green curry, and the chicken phad thai. Both quite nice, but again think the pricing is a bit too much especially with the green curry since the rice was separate. Can get the same if not better elsewhere for less. Still good quality though. Might be back to try the sushi on special.

Very disappointing experience. We decided to try out this restaurant given their Zomato ratings and the menu seemed to have a vast variety of vegetarian options. To our disappointment this was not so. We ordered the carrot salad which looked vegetarian on the menu but turns out it had fish sauce in it. To our surprise on calling the chef, he said he could not make it without fish sauce!! He then went on to tell us he couldn’t make any of the curries vegetarian either!! They had shrimp paste/ oyster sauce. We only had a choice of stir fries. This was really surprising given the menu has options for vegetables/ tofu. The stir fires we ordered were ok. However the pad thai noodles were tasteless and gluggy.
The spring rolls seemed like they were fried in fish oil too!
Definitely not a place that caters for vegetarians and that is truly disappointing as the menu looked quite good! Not sure we will go back in a rush.
The service was ok. Our waitress, Musi was friendly and accommodating.
Anet
We have always loved the food and it is so close to home that we have been regulars. it has lost its shine though. The food is still good but when you ask for extra veg, you always have to ask again as that order does not reach the kitchen. The menus also seem to be reprinted regularly with prices adjusted upwards, or is it just the wine? Does it still present fair value........ mmm I'm not sure

Best Thai restaurant I’ve been to in a while. The sushi and Thai curry is my favourite! The vibe is great, especially on a summer night out on the patio.

Visited for dinner on a Friday night with some friends. I ordered the Penang with chicken and the hubs ordered the ba me prik phao. The food was a little too sweet for my liking. I did, however, really enjoy the atmosphere and the service was great.

Outstanding service from Antony, delicious food, refreshing experience. Dim sum a bit spicy. Noodles and stir fry very yummy. We have lived in Asia so appreciate the authenticity
Candistripe
Nice atmosphere.
Crispy duck is was good. Dim sums are quite different.
Pad Thai need more egg and bean sprouts I think.
Thai curry are average but you are needing that coconut fix it is extremely satisfying.
A soup we had with tofu and glass noodles was extremely salty.
But again nice setting.
Foodie Businessman
The restaurant is an upmarket Thai establishment with fresh decor. The food was excellent, with the dish and Penang curries we had the tom yum soup with prawns unfortunately only 3 small prawn tails but the broth was very good, I ordered the hot which is pretty spicy and would be very tempted to try the Thai style. All in all a great night out

Food is always great
Great tastes with superb fresh ingredients and a good wine list
Pity the service is sometimes just not up to the quality of the food

This place is good for satisfying your Asian Fusion craving. It is rare to have an Asian restaurant which could serve decent quality of different types of Asian cuisine. The chef is mainly a thai chef. But they serve up some decent Chinese and some mean sushi. My friend and I shared the lunch special for two which included thai soup, dim sim, sushi and spring rolls for R350. The tom yum soup was nice with tofu. The sushi was very decent. The taste and the texture were very nice with the combination they put into each sushi. And the rice is decently prepared (as any sushi chef will tell you that's the most important basic of sushi making). Dim sim didn't have the traditional taste (as my Chinese background would judge it more harshly). For me, some tasted pretty good while some of it could be better (The bun looking one is a bit dry and the cream spinach one is just a bit odd for my taste ). The spring rolls, the chicken one was nice while the duck one was a bit dry. My friend had a pina colada. The presentation was pretty and it tasted very yummy. The waiting staff were friendly and courteous. It didn't sound like lot of food but we both had very full stomachs. Overall we had a very satisfying experience. The price for the dinner menu may be different as we didn't look at it.

Great waiters but manager arrogant and lied to us. Placed order with manager . Waited a hour and post him asking he out right lied and then avoided contact with us.

Today I decided to stop at Erawan Riverside for a quick, light lunch between meetings and ordered the Yum Woon Sen Salad. It's supposed to be a chicken and glass noodle salad with onion, coriander, red and green chillies, lemon and peanut. I've had this type of salad before in Thailand and had high expectations, suffice to say something that should be very quick to prepare it took over 40 Minutes to arrive. I was about to cancel my order when the dish finally got presented.

As you can see from the picture it was a poorly constructed salad sitting in a lettuce cup with a very unbalanced sauce leaking all over the plate (an overpowering abundance of fish sauce) the glass noodles were overcooked, there was almost no chicken and to top it all off there were big quartered chunks of raw onion and tomato sitting in this warm salad.

I had no choice but to send it back and ask for the bill it was literally inedible.

I doubt Executive Chef Noom would have ever let this dish leave the pass in Cape Town...

Come on Johannesburg step it up?

The only nice thing about the experience was that the manager didn't make me pay for the meal or my drinks.

I am sure the sushi and the other dishes are a lot better but this review was based on my first experience at this establishment.

Richard
Having been before to Erawan and been happy with what we ate I have the habit sometimes of only rating on the second visit, which in this instance is the case. One thing I must say is that Erawan is not a cheap establishment so for a meal for 2 with wine starters and main you are looking at R650. We stsrted off with chicken spring rolls and tempura prawns. The spring rolls were nice, but the tempura prawns had what I would describe as an unconventional batter coating, which if you compare to Yume in Dainfern as an example is not of equal quality, which was a bit of a let down. For the mains we both had pork stir fries, mine with a chilli sauce and my partners with ginger and garlic. This accompanied by rice noodles. The mains were ok, but not to the standard we had previously due to my partners being overpowered by too much ginger and mine with far too many green and red peppers that diluted the the taste combinations. Hence my 2.5 rating whereas based on our previous visit I would have given our meal a 4. You have to be realistic when spending R650 on a meal for two the quality has to be tops, which on this night was not the case.Jacky Kriel Hayden Green

Always happy when I visit Erawan, especially for lunch. Asian fusion cuisine at it's best and the most delicious sushi in town (I recommend the prawn roof every time👌🏽)

The vibe is cosy and not-too-casual but still relaxed. The decor is simple and it's great to see at an Asian restaurant that hasn't gone all out with the Asian symbols - it's refreshingly different. The restaurant was fairly busy (Saturday night) and so it was a little noisy, which meant talking in slightly raised voices - but not uncomfortable.

The menu was fairly simple. There was dim sum, sushi, a variety of Thai starters, and a slighter smaller variety on the mains. There weren't too many options, and that was great. Unfortunately, it didn't appear that there were very many vegetarian dishes and so I will not recommend it for vegetarians and, more so, vegans.

The food was delicious. I started off with two types of dim sum and both were so great I considered skipping mains altogether and ordering dim sum. The main (pennang curry) was pretty tasty, the only problem was that it was too spicy for me. My only critique is, therefore, that patrons should be told that "medium" is still incredibly spicy (I have a fairly high spice threshold, too). I ate less than half of my meal (and a manager ought to have recognized the issue) but I'll definitely be back to try the mild version.

Service was good. The waiting time, despite their being busy, was not long. And special mention goes to Bridget, who was an attentive and pleasant waitress.
Excellent Thai food. Sushi is good albeit not too traditional (tempura and covered in sweet sauces variety) but it is tasty. Tom yum soup is phenomenal - hot and sour - can serve as a main in most cases. Thai curry also great.

Such a consistent favourite of ours! Cant go wrong for a quick bite at lunchtime or a fancy dinner to impress clients or friends. Service and food top notch.

I've been here a few times. The food is always really good and fresh. The selection of Dim Sum is amazing - the salmon and cream cheese is my personal favorite. I've tried a few stir fries here but the chilli and cashew nut (chicken) couples with egg fried rice is a really good combination. The food is authentic and staff is friendly and accommodating. This is a awesome choice for Thai food in Bryanston.

My friend (who is quite the sushi guru) suggested this spot & it really blew me away! We had the prawn rock chef specialty which is by far the best sushi I've tried. The service was great & I liked how they gave complimentary chip things (not sure what they called). One should definitely go to this restaurant hungry as the portions are well worth the price. Will definitely be back!

If I could go up to 10 for this restaurant, I would. Staff are always friendly and super helpful - even get greeted with a "welcome back, nice to see you again". Food is out of this world, never ever been disappointed! Thai green curry was tantalizing - for the chili lovers try the Thai style and see how long you can last 😆 sushi comes in relatively large portions and is great value for money considering all the other ripoff places there are in SA. A definite must try!

Someone suggested Erawan to me a year ago & it's taken the longest time for me to visit. It was a good visit tho...had a delicious prawn green Thai curry...the gravy was creamy & spicy. It went perfectly with a glass of Warwick wine's Sauvignon Blanc!
Jessica Moshanyana
Fantastic food. Waiters are attentive and the wine selection is pretty amazing! Dined there at least three times this year and never been disappointed
Kirsty Morey
I have been to Erawan twice and both times I have felt very underwhelmed. The food is good but when I have been there it certainly hasn't blown me away. It's also very pricey for what you are paying for. Food was bland!
Pelonomi Manana
Crispy duck is well worth trying 👌🏽. The Bangkok Mojito could do with more sugar syrup but is coloured so beautifully. Ambience is amazing. Great place for a great date night.

The food is excellent but the service needs a lot of improvement
We have to wait for service when we got there. Had to call the waiter who called another waiter and he took ages to get to our table.
Got our food and no one came to check on us. Waiting for my wine to be poured
Service average. I thought food was reasonably decent- until I got ill after eating it. I would urge the health inspector to pay the restaurant a visit. Unfortunately I cannot say that I will return here- given the horrid after effects of the meal.

The most amazing food at Erawan this evening but even better than that was the service that our waiter, Joshua, provided us with! This gentleman was beyond excellent in every way possible and made the evening very special indeed! Thank you Joshua, we will be back soon and ask for you to serve us!

Warmest regards,

John
The experience was disappointing. The ambiance
was non existent there was so much loud talking from the staff. The service was soooooo slow and then starters were brought with the wrong sauce ? The main took forever to come and it was luke warm and taste was poor. My son took us out as he had many a meal there and was so desolutioned. Very very expensive for the quality of food. 🙁

Took a while to sit on this review.. see when you review a restaurant you think of the experience, the vibe, but in essence you go there to eat.

I have eaten in establishments where the lacking service was forgiven due to the food served, where the ambiance and decor was by passed because of the smells and gastronomical experience had.

So with this review it wouldn't be fair to not review how beautiful this restaurant is, the look and feel leave you already confident for the expertise in this establishment, that goes in hand with the amazing staff, professional, prompt, friendly. Great atmosphere!

Alas... we ordered 2 different dim sum from their vast selection - the prawn was incredible, it was moist, tasty, thin parcels.. they where beautiful. The second lot of dim sum where thick and plodgy and the flavors were really lost in how thick the parcels where - left them chewy. We moved past this and on to mains..

I specifically requested a medium heat as I am pregnant .. my partner ordered a curry with pork - and he ordered his Thai style hot!

My soup arrived and it was inedible.. a spoon full felt like lava down my oesophagus.. in hand it was really just warmed up coconut milk with chili flakes and mussels thrown in.. to go with this the virgin mojito I ordered came with alcohol, I passed the drink to my partner, pushed the soup aside and left it be. I climbed into some of pork curry, the heat not being Thai hot as ordered, the pork was hard and the fat (more of than pork) was too much.

Twenty minutes in a very friendly manager came over apologized, offered me another meal I declined but appreciated it. He took the soup off our bill and apologized for the matter.

I understand restaurants have an off meal or two however looking for Thai? Kong is a 4! It wasn't a terrible experience but next time we in the mood for Thai Erewan won't be it.

This place is tasty ,delicious ,big portions with a wide selection of Thai Curry's, sushi and other amazing dishes.its just to small, we always have to wait 30 mins to be served. Even on weekdays it's packed, they need a bigger premises asap.
Angela Kavallieratos
Attended a farewell last weekend, so only had a small portion of food, it was so good I went back this weekend to try more. All the food was delicious, fresh and different. Friendly staff and lovely setting. We tried the sushi and dim sum, both highly recommended.
Zizi “Zed-I” Dlamini
Erawan hits the mark everytime. Their flavours are a little more muted than I'd like (hence the 3.5) but they are, nevertheless, enjoyable. The sushi is really great, as is the dim sum. I find it best to order a selection of meals to share. This time we also ordered the cashew nut noodle dish with chicken - delicious? The service was great, they have a wide selection of beverages too. I'll definitely revisit again and again.
Monique Le Roux
Delicious Dim-Sum and Sushi! Yummy! Had the chicken cashew and chilli noodles dish last time as well and it was delicious. Portion was quite big which meant left overs for lunch the next day - yay!

Absolutely awesome food, great service, amazing manager and fantastic venue.
I would highly recommend and I'll be back here again and again.

5 stars for great service, and yummy food. Loved the crispy fish! Nice sized portions as well and lovely wine list. Big up to the manager (Andrew?) who made a plan to accommodate us at late notice. Will be back!

Simply Fantastic! A full house almost every night and deservedly so. The food is made with high quality products and the chef is not shy with spices or creams. Arguably the best asian spot in JHB
LactoOvoGastro
Not much to say except the experience left a lot to be desired. Service was lacklustre and did not reflect the MO of the restaurant. Food was less than average and would have expected far more on quality. He dumplings were stodgy and really tiny. The chef forgot to add cashews in my cashew curry and when I pointed this out, rather than return the dish and prepare it with cashews, a bowl of cashews was bought to my table. Little details become important when you're forking out a pretty penny at this establishment but unfortunately it's more in the appearance than in the execution. Things like a fresh glass should bought to the table when you reorder a drink, or your place setting should be moved if you choose to flip sides to avoid being knocked by each passing waiter. If they value my patronage then refinement is necessary. I will certainly be more mindful of other feedback before revisiting this rather exorbitant restaurant.

It was a first time visit to Erawan for an anniversary dinner. The food was served hot, with good service. The venue is clean and simply but well decorated but there isn't the most memorable ambience. The food was good but didn't quite warrant the price. We paid about R530 excluding tip for 2.
Himesh Mistry
Upmarket Thai food at its best. Impressive deco with good service. A bit pricy though but not bad for a night out. Reservations are scarce so book in advance to avoid disappointment. Definitely worth a try

I had an unplanned early dinner this evening at Erawan. I must say I was pleasantly surprised as I walked in with no expectations.
Possible the best crispy duck I have tasted in a while served medium hot ...
I will sure be back again to try their Thai curry dishes as the menu looks quite appetizing and extensive.
Very efficient service from Chris who was our waiter this evening and very preety space and neat restaurant.

I quite liked the ambiance 😍

I would highly recommend if you in too Thai food...
Nice restaurant with good service. The dishes are very sweet and rich. Unlike some other Thai places where the dishes are lighter and more savoury. We ordered red wine and the bottle was hot. These days good red wines are services chilled and I would have expected this restaurant to know it.

Finally got to try this out for myself after hearing so much about it. Felt very peckish so we order a variety of dim sums & curry to share. The dumplings that they offer is not the ordinary ones you get at a Chinese restaurant...which I like! A mix of spinach and cream cheese dumplings; butternut, feta & spinach dumplings; prawns, bamboo chestnut & chicken ginger dumplings. The manager overheard our conversation & jumped in as he wanted to know more about my opinion. His team was very hospitable and knows what's on the menu! Will definitely come back soon! Starters were dank to say the least! Who would have thought simple prawn chips would taste so good with their 3 dips clearly crafted from a geisha's bosom.
Ambiance is very friendly and the manager immediately engaged in conversation that was as authentic as their Thai food.
This place makes Simply Asia look like the Mcdonalds of Thai cuisine.
The dumplings blew my mind and the red curry made my tastes-buds explode with delight.

Yum! Yum! Yum! Awesome food. Went with a friend for her birthday, and we 'co-ordered' everything so we could taste as much deliciousness as possible. For starters we had prawn dim sum and the salmon on crispy rice. Heavenly. Followed by crispy duck and chicken Pad Thai. Dessert was rice pudding and chocolate spring rolls. Every mouthful of every course was divine. Neat (our waiter) was friendly, cheerful and always available.

Erawan is our favourite local spot. The most delicious food and friendly service. The staff always go out of their way to make sure you have a great meal and incredible evening. The Prawn Cashew is a win as well as all of their sushi. A must if you are in the Morningside/Bryanston area!

Lovely venue and great service. It's a bit pricey for what it offers and portions not big. I don't like the fact that rice is separate and comes in a small bowl.

Even though a bit of a drive, Erawan has an luxurious feel to it. The staff are especially well trained and tend too your every need. The variety on the menu is unique and their soy sauce is to die for. All their sauces, actually. I found myself cleaning my plate.

Previously gave it a 4 because I love it. Was just told they had stopped takeaways "because they are too busy". Disappointing as we are regulars and will not be back.

Ate here twice this weekend and while the food was good, the service was a bit slow/uninterested on both occasions. Portions are also rather small for the price you are paying - especially the dishes where you have to order your rice/noodles separately. My partners cashew nut chicken came with only about 4 small pieces of chicken which for R98 (excl. side) is rather pricey. Would have also liked the waiters to be more attentive or proactive in terms of taking orders for starters and mains rather than having to request to order. The curries seem to be a popular option.

We were going to visit but decided on takeaways from Mr D instead. The spicy beef dim sum and duck spring rolls were tasty. Each came with a delicious dipping sauce. The green curry (with beef) and oyster fried beef were flavourful. We forgot to order rice on the side though, and here's the gripe... The portion sizes are on the small side and they're a little pricey, so the rice should really be included. I'd much rather visit the restaurant than order takeaways again.

Ordered a sushi takeaway on Valentines night. Really disappointing. The 8 piece Prawn Roof had only 6 prawns on the 8 pieces and the other two orders were just poorly made. None of the precision that makes sushi great. Sloppy. When we called the restaurant to complain they said we were served bigger prawns on the Prawn Roof so you get 6 and not 8. Seriously? This is your menu. 8 piece is 8 piece. Bottom line, when we complained the restaurant really didn't care. Won't be back.

I had the best sushi ever here! Everything sushi item on the menu was to die for. This is the best Thai fine dining experience ever, a definite must try. They also make the most delicious & potent cocktails! The service was average though.

Awesome flavours and great staff. A must dining experience! Rivals the best Thai cuisine I've had anywhere in the world. My new favourite Thai experience.

Fantastic experience with Thai style or Southeast Asian gourmet dishes. in the happy ,. lovely evening, and the time is passing by so quickly.

Erawan Riverside always delights.
For starters of Prawn Roof sushi, Jeeb Goong Dim Sum and spicy Prawns on Toast are all delicious.
The Cashew & Chilli Paste Stir-fry with egg fried rice is awesome. For the salty palate, a must try is the Black Bean Noodles. The service is always fast and friendly.

Fine Dining Asian experience, so I had to try the dim sim (spinach and cream cheese) which was nice. I tried something that I never tried before crispy coconut milk which I will probably go back for. This was so yum with soft, crispy and silky textures. I had the caterpillar veg California rolls topped with avo which was nice but I will not be going back for the sushi. Would like to try the stir Fry's next. My colleagues had the crispy duck which they said was delicious.

This is probably the best fine dining Asian restaurant in Joburg which I visit regularly. They cater well for vegetarians. Their har gao with spinach and cream cheese is fresh and of a very high standard. The accompanying dipping sauces just put a special touch to your meal.

Their Suki Num clear soup with veg and tofu is quite filling and it is a good portion. The meals here very authentic and of a consistent quality.

There is a wide selection of stir fry meals on the menu as well as curries. I have been informed by the staff only the Chiang Mai style curry is the only curry considered vegetarian as it does not contain shrimp paste.

Please be aware that if you order something hot it will most certainly pop your head off if you can't handle it. Meal prices are a bit high but the quality, ambience and service do justify this.

This place is definitely worth a try.

We've been waiting here for 1hr 50min for our first course, and still no food out of the kitchen. If you feel like drinking 3 bottles of wine and waiting a loooong time for your food, and changing waiters 3 times, then this might be your place. We, on the other hand, are considering ordering Uber eats Thai for delivery to our table.

Been here a few times, all I have eaten especially the red curry is excellent so the food is consistently good but the service from start to finish for all my visits has been consistently dismal what a shame.

Was very disappointed it was a good Resturant but the manager is very inattentive. There is no interaction with the patrons. The Flies are a really big problem in the Resturant and you have to beg for a candle. The Resturant was not busy but took forever for the meal to arrive. Will think twice about coming back. Do something about the flies!!!

I found my dining experience here to be average. It's a romantic elegant restaurant but what brought it down was the disappointing mains that lacked flavour and presentation. The saving dish of the evening were the steamed mussels in a spicy Thai and coriander infused coconut milk - delicious! We then had two dim sum dishes - a "spicy" chicken and the other prawns with bamboo and water chestnuts. For mains we shared their crispy duck and pancakes for two. The duck was dried out and the dipping sauces (hoisin and plum) were bland. More authentic, better tasting versions of this dish can be found elsewhere!

Heard along about this place. We were greeted on arrival and seated. Restaurant is very beautiful decorated and has an open atmosphere. Was given two menus which both were missing pages. Third one was complete. Wine menu is well put together with suggested pairings for food. Food menu is also diverse and offers a good mix of Thai food. I had Tom Yun soup and ordered it with chicken and medium .
It was delicious but definitely was not medium, also I think I two or three pieces of chicken in it.
As a main I tried the Green Curry with chicken also medium and a side of rice.
This was also very tasty and was medium. Rice was a good portion.
We were served by Prudence who was very attentive and we never had to look for her.
All in all it was a good experience with room for improvement. Definitely will go back.

Disgusting service and when the food eventually arrived, the chicken wings starter was off. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. They tried to hide the off-smell with a generous chilli sauce.
Melissa
Delicious food, attentive waiter and outstanding manager. What a great experience! For starters there was sriracha chicken wings (my favourite ) and crispy rice with salmon. For mains there was green curry and rice and then cashew nut chicken with chilli paste! What a treat.. will be back soon!
Steffen Ryan Kahn
If you are looking for an amazing chicken cashew nut dish, then you have to try Erawan's. There are a variety of sauces you can choose from. I recommend the chilli paste. If you do not like spicy food, go with the mild strength.

If compared to thai cuisine, like Wang Thai, this was really sub par. Had extremely high expectations of this place but beyond its really amazing decor and ambiance there wasn't really much else.
