Review Lbv - Bryanston

Jozi Girl
Been here twice. Cosy restaurant with plenty of parking. Wine by the glass is Around R60 - we took our own bottle and was charged R60 corkage. Service was quite pleasant. My husband had the starter portion calamari and pork and I had the starter prawn. Was really good and well presented. Service was pleasant and the staff are really friendly. Yes I would recommend LBV.

Excellent service, delicious food and overall experience was beautiful. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. I am definitely coming back to the restaurant

A wonderful and tranquil place to go with a partner or with friends. Top class restaurant quality food at affordable prices. Well worth the visit. I promise you wont be disappointed with both the food and service.

Rich and earthy flavours, succulent red meat. Our waiter was attentive and knew the menu well. An intimate little restaurant, great for date night.

One of my top 3 favorite tasting menu restaurant. The price is not bad for a 9-course meal. Each dish looks beautiful to eat and it tastes good!

LBV Bistro is a wonderful dining experience with great service. There is also ample safe parking. The food was of a high standard, delicious and expertly presented on high quality crockery. LBV is great for date nights and for group of friends.

Went to LBV to celebrate my 30th with a lovely dinner. I was not disappointed! The atmosphere and staff are lovely. Once settle, we got an interesting board of flavourful delights. I had no clue there was such a thing as an apple meringue ... who knew apple and cheese tastes good together! The food is incredible - I had the pork belly as my main and the créme brulee as my dessert. I highly recommend the pork belly! The pork was tender, the mustard mash and bacon brandy jam were unique and divine and the crackling... so crunchy and light! I'll definitely be back for that dish. A definite must.

Was beautiful & exceptional. The food was absolutely delicious, it was a great dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful & warm

Tasting menu at LBV in Bryanston. There were 9 courses in total. 6/9 of the dishes were great. Lots of techniques being used in all the dishes, may be some refinement is needed to perfect this menu. Fantastic service by all the staff.
Nick Dempers
I really like this restaurant. Good food and a great vibe.
Hannelie Berrangé
Beautiful restaurant, fantastic service and amazing food.

I’ve always only had the best meals at LBV! They allow corkage and have both an inside and outside section. In winter, it’s nice and cosy inside and they are wheelchair friendly. Bookings are essential!

It's very rare that everyone around the table said that their food was amazing. It's even more rare to see that everyone's plates are clean after dinner. This is one of these places. Amazing service, amazing food and an overall great experience!

Very good food, great place to take your date

The food was amazing...friendly waiters...the presentation of the food is on point ...I'd love to go there again I'm definitely bringing friends and family over this place

Why does everyone love this place. Worst meal and experience ever! I travel to Cape Town often and really get to dine at at well established restaurants!! The funny thing is for being the only patrons at this restaurant for lunch I have never received an apology even for the many reviews. Do NOT waste your money here!

Our experience at LBV was exceptional. Our favourite starters were the springbok carpaccio and the crispy duck. For my main I had the beef short rib gnocchi which was delicious.Their wine selection was affordable and great! The head chef walked around the restaurant and greeted the customers and asked if they were enjoying their food. The service was great with attentive and friendly waiters. The ambience was relaxing and cozy. Affordable prices all round. We will definitely be coming back!!

Incredible food and Joburg’s next best restaurant! The tasting menu is a must!

LBV has been a favourite restaurant since they opened about five years ago. The service and food have always been excellent. This is a restaurant that you know you will enjoy even before you arrive. I will definitely be back at LBV again, and again, and again!

We had a 30th themed birthday party in their Link room with their wine pairing menu. Loved it! The staff were superb and food incredible.
Mike
What a disappointment! Waited over an hour for mains with zero communication from the staff. Short rib (when it arrived) was 25% fat, which had not been trimmed. Dessert was a cold and congealed “lava” cake. The manager only appeared when requested and his assurances to respond have not materialized a week later.

This was supposed to be a Restaurant Week promotion - but it has had the opposite effect and I will certainly not go back!

Highly overrated establishment. Service not up to scratch - we were served the wrong meals. Food is average at best. Take your date elsewhere.
Lauren
I went to LBV for dinner and was delighted by the friendly staff and good service. However, I found the food to be very disappointing, very rich and overly complexed dishes.
Edwards Matt
Having been to LBV a few times before, I've never been less than impressed with the generous portions, friendly service, and delicious food. So, when we decided to do a combined Mom's birthday/Father's Day/Youth Day (Yes, June 16 is lit in our household) lunch booking, LBV was a no-brainer.

The 3-course set lunch actually turned out to be 3 courses, plus an Amuse-bouche to kick things off (a buttermilk rusk topped with confit duck, beetroot caviar, and garlic mayo - delectable!) and a refreshing virgin Pina colada palate cleanser before dessert.

My uninspired crew all chose the roasted cauliflower soup for their starter, which I'll admit was deliciously hearty and perfectly balanced with a hint of truffle. Served theatrically in two phases, the soup itself was poured over a garden of micro-greens, parmesan tuile (unbelievably tasty in itself), and cauliflower purée. Defying the cauli-cult, I started with the chicken liver Pâté, served with perfectly browned crostini and crispy bacon bits. The starters set the tone perfectly and everyone was raving about the opening salvo.

Once again, the fam ordered in solidarity, choosing the pork belly main. As the main attraction arrived the first thing everyone remarked on was the portion sizes - two huge chunks of pork belly clad in some of the crispiest crackling I've ever tasted, resting regally on a bed of truffle parmesan mash, caramelised apples, and bacon, accompanied by a little jug of pork broth to be poured over. Obviously, it was gastronomic greatness - rich, moreish, bursting with simple yet refined flavours.

My main was the beef fillet with parsnip purée, roast potatoes, carrot dust, and mushroom panna cotta, garnished with a generous marrow bone. Ordered medium-rare, it was cooked to perfection. Butter-soft fillet that seemingly melted in the mouth. Superb!

Finally, we ordered an even split of the two dessert options - Apple crumble with vanilla ice cream, salted caramel sauce and apple bites, and a medley of some kind of chocolate ganache, raspberry sorbet and hazelnut truffles, with a strawberry glaze and topped with fresh, diced strawberries - to share. It was a feast for the eyes and the taste buds, with the raspberry sorbet emerging as the fan favourite.

I honestly couldn't fault a single aspect of the meal, it was simply exquisite, and, considering how large the portions were, that kind of value for money (R295 per head), without compromising on quality, is almost unheard of.

Finally, another major highlight of the day was our waiter, Issue. Amiable, animated, and knowledgeable, he made the whole experience that much more enjoyable, and he even brought us a celebratory round of Amarula shots, on him, when we mentioned mom's birthday.

One negative aspect I must mention - the main motivation for this review, in fact - is that the restaurant was relatively empty and has been on past occasions. This could come down to the fact that LBV is tucked away in the back of the Cramerview centre, making it a quintessential 'hidden gem', but, honestly, if you're looking for an unmatched, gourmet dining experience, without the posh pretense (or pretentious price), LBV is second to none.
Used to be one of our favourite places, we haven’t been for a while and it has gone completely downhill. Food was average and the service was ridiculously slow. First time in ages I’ve been in a restaurant where a manager didn’t come at some point to check whether everything was OK. Then to top it off we see the kitchen staff dipping their fingers into pots to taste stuff. Last time they’ll see us.

We visited LBV on a Wednesday during their restaurant week special. The venue is great. Safe and secured. The staff gave us a warm welcome on arrival. We ordered drinks which was separate from the set menu. Every course was plated beautifully and tasted amazing. The flavours of the fishes blended amazingly with one another. We will definitely be back!
Tarryn
My family and I decide to visit this place for restaurant week... Had a really good menu, food was very tasty and beautifully presented.... The truffle fillet was the winner.... However we waited 45 min to get our mains after starters and felt like was a bit too long... I would be back and was a good experience overall

My husband and I went to LBV for our Wedding Anniversary and had their "Special Autumn Menu" as part of the Restaurant Week promotion. This is a 5 course set menu for R350 per person. So R700 for a couple, excluding drinks. LBV won best restaurant for 2018. Unfortunately, it seems that the pressure the perform in 2019 was just too much for the chef as each dish felt like it was trying too hard. Rather than sumptuous dishes that looked good and tasted better, the food was roundly bland and the flavours generally not complimentary of one another.

The Wild Mushroom starter seemed like a mish mash of leftovers from the fridge. Whole mushrooms were thrown into a watery broth along with gnocchi dumplings. Too many different things going on at the same time that should not have been in the same bowl.

For mains my husband had the Fillet Steak. A huge bone sliced in half long ways (the marrow component of the meal) was plonked on top of the steak, reminding me strongly of a dog's dinner bowl. This was simply one of the blandest steaks he has ever eaten. It desperately needed some kind of accompanying sauce as the hint of jous on the plate can only be described as decorative at best. The meat lacked anyone significant flavour and the truffle sauce mentioned on the menu was another decorative element, rather than a gastronomical one.

For Dessert I had the Cheesecake. To be honest, it reminded me a lot of the cheesecake that you get served on an airplane. It looked and tasted like it had come out of a box of instant mix powder. I could not finish it. My husband had the lavender ice cream which had such an overpowering lavender flavour that he couldn't even get half way through it before abandoning it.

The service was okay but left something to be desired. For example, we had to ask the waiter 3 times to bring my husband another drink, which was just a beer, before he actually bothered to bring it to us. We asked to have a look at their A La Carte menu and to our surprise, the "Special Autumn Menu" actually cost significantly more when everything was added up than if we had simply come in and ordered all the courses directly off the menu without the "Special". We would have had a better selection of food and paid a lot less for our meal. All in all quite a disappointing experience especially for such a high cost per head. We will not be returning anytime soon.
Alex
Very, very underwhelming (3 hour) experience. Spent a small fortune on the tasting menu for Valentine’s and really came away feeling hard done by. Extremely disappointing. Waiter was nice, so that gets you an extra star.
The Great Diner
Magnificent experience. Dining at its finest. Did the 9 course wine pairing menu. Excellent sommelier introduced all the dishes and the accompanying wines. Each course was a masterpiece. Delicious flavours and textures, each course elevating the experience. Each course got better and better than the next. Personal highlight was the springbok dish. Young chef came to the table later and introduced himself. He is really awesome with such skill at his age. Only great things ahead for him.

I'd never heard about LBV until my husband made a booking with them for Restaurant Week.

Their food was out of this world! We had a set menu (as is standard with Restaurant Week bookings) and were blown away. I couldn't believe this place had been under our radar until now.

The first thing you notice about LBV is how casual and relaxed the atmosphere is. There are no airs and graces when it comes to the staff, management or the chefs. They are eager to help and are happy to create beautiful food for their patrons.

Their vegetarian selection is a little on the light side but whatever I could eat, was divine! Their prices are a little high but I think definitely worth it.

They have created a beautiful, relaxed space for people to enjoy stellar food!

Good food and good portion size! Service was excellent and general experience was great!
Had the pork belly, which was fantastic. One of our friends said the food was slightly dry. Also, the desert was not quite on the standard of the mains, but still good!

Absolutely delightful. A hidden gem, worth a recommendation! Thank you so much for the lovely food, will definitely be returning soon 🙂 Merci

What is good is the ambience, the service of the waiters, friendly staff.
What is not good is when you order food and asking for bread and olive oil and balsamic vinegar, we were willing to pay for it, and we are told the chef refuses to part with his bread because “it is for the set menu”. We are looking for 2 pieces of bread.
When the restaurant then is only half full on the same Saturday evening, almost no-one having this set menu, then this leads to a silly situation.
Short-sighted.
The Schoeman Brothers
LBV had amazing food and all the flavors just caused utter delight. Magnificent smells slipped away from the kitchen. The ambiance was cheerful while staying peaceful even with many people in the restaurant.

We had the Crispy Duck and Calamari as our snacks. The duck was tender and sweet with a hint of bitter. The calamari was delicious and the garlic mayo was creamy.

We had Exotic Mushroom Tortellini and Pork Belly as our starters. The tortellini was rather mild and I enjoyed the light flavor. The pork belly was juicy with the crunch of crackling during a bite.

I had the Beef Short Rib and I have never tasted such classy and authentic food! The short rib was juicy and tender with no bone in site. Crunchy pumpkin fritters accompanied the delicious beef.

Dessert was not possible with our stomachs full. I definitely recommend LBV and love every little detail! On the pricey side but worth it!

Had thier set menu for restaurant week last night. The starter and main were really great. However they did run out of tortellini. The menu was set so they should have been better prepared. The desert was a major let down. The baked chocolate mouse was in a plate of juice which was incredibly tart. Supposedly berry? The red wine sorbet also melted everywhere which made the cake a bit odd tasting. But again the main duck and starter of pork belly were really amazing, awesome flavors and cooked brilliantly. Such a pity about the desert!

I recently dined at LBV for what should have been a romantic dinner with my partner. I had high expectations since they had won the last Restaurant week. We waited 20min before we got our bread course, we asked for cocktails that took over 30min to which the waiter said they did not have enough ingredients to make said cocktails. The food took a long time after each course. I was highly disappointed by the food and could not believe how shocking the service was.

We went for dinner and firstly I can say our waiter was sweet and engaging. The ambience was good...but the food... We ordered two starters and mains at the same time. Took aboit 30mins for the starters to get to us. Then we waited for another 30-45mins for our mains. It was slow. Both mains was overcooked and dry. I ordered the seabass, and my husband ordered the porkbelly. Wasn't impressed with the value for the price of the food and it took way too long to arrive.

We found this spot during the Resturant week that has been running that we booked for.

The food was exceptional. We tried each of the starters and they were delicious.

Main course we had the Duck and the Mushroom Tortellini both were superb.

Will definitely be back to try the normal menu.

Another spot we found on restaurant week, really a nice restaurant, friendly, helpful, food was excellent. Nice atmosphere. The chef came to ask if we happy with everything, i give them a 10 star if i could

LINK by LBV – The experience definitely worth trying out!

If you did not know of LBV, I firmly recommend that you go and try out their LINK 11 course, wine pairing.
In fact I insist! Once through the door, you are warmly greeted by friendly staff that only wish to make your taste buds dance with the spectacular food served from their unique menu.
If you choose the wine pairing, you will be introduced 1st to a pleasant rose water tasting champagne. Shortly followed by an awe-inspiring Toffee Apple LBV imagination driven dish.

I won't give it all away about the 11 dishes, however, I will mention some of our favourites. The Duck and the Lamb are certainly worth mentioning. The Duck was perfectly cooked- rich in flavour with the perfect balance of extra’s, plum sauce and what I can only describe as a delicious yellow smudge on the plate. Artistically placed almost looking like a Zen garden (perfect balance). The lamb is accompanied by variants of onion and is presented beautifully as well.

All in all, every dish tells a wonderful story and has an imaginative theme of sorts.

We found the atmosphere to be electric, I will elaborate: it was by no means fast paced however you are never left waiting. Regarding the above, I would suggest setting aside at least 2-3 hours to enjoy this wonderland of flavours. What an escape from reality and the average dining experience. I’m so glad I took the chance and hope you do too!

Visited this restaurant a few weeks back! What a hidden gem it is!! I had heard it was worth a visit and was not disappointed! The atmosphere is great, with fun chic decor. The service is excellent, but what makes the night even more memorable is the food!!! Everything on the menu sounded amazing, matching together ingredients that leave you wandering, but set your taste buds alight. Worth every cent!! Back tonight for round two - so will do a further review after!

Four of us went for supper on Saturday 4 August. The food was superb but let down by non-existent service.

The food was some of the best that I have eaten in years but great food is not the only thing that makes a great restaurant. The service let this restaurant down as otherwise I have nothing bad to say about them. I would have given LBV a 4,5 star rating if it had not been for the service. This is now the second time that I have received poor service at this restaurant. I don’t want someone hovering around the table all the time but when you need to call the waiter every time you need something it is just not acceptable. This was just for basic things you expect as service - to order, to get another bottle of wine.

The food however was superb. All four people rated their food highly. The cauliflower soup was spectacular. The pork belly, risotto and lamb dishes were really good. The creme brûlée and chocolate lava cake were also good.

Great food.
Non-existent service.

Overall I give LBV a 3,5 star rating only due to the superb food. Sort your service out and you would get a 4,5 star rating.

Splendid night out! First thing I experienced was a comfortable chair. We navigated our way through their interesting menu and decided on cauliflower soup and tortellini mushrooms for starters. The soup arrived as a bowl with a little treat in the plate. The waiter then came and poured the soup at the table and dressed the soup soup at the end - more flavors. The mushroom tortellini was a delicious combination of flavours.
For main, we had Beef short rib and Pork belly. Both were very tasty. Each nibble on you plate had an interesting flavor to it in isolation. The combination of them was also exceptional. The portion was surprisingly filling, so there no space for dessert. We will be back for sure. The waiter was very attentive and the whole evening exceptional. Well done LBV!

Good atmosphere and decor lends itself to a romantic setting. Food however is really not worth a try. We ordered the duck starter which was pretty much a spoon of black cat with a strawberry and four somewhat off tasting pieces of duck. The flavor combination felt a bit strange although with the relatively high rating on Zomato we brushed the experience aside. The mains however was not as easy to forget. The salmon was overdone and drenched in old oil. Very possibly cooked in a well used deep fryer. The asparagus was just plain boiled. First time I’ve ever not finished my meal. The lamb that my partner ordered was not as bad but very average. Just an old potjie reheated and served at premium and reheated store bought gnocchi. Only thing I would describe it as is very sweet, so not for anyone who doesn’t like that sort of thing. We couldn’t really tell if it was lamb though so could have been the wrong dish brought. Manager was no where to find. We left halfway through the mains and went to another cafe. Starter, sparking water, and 2 half main dishes comes to over R600 without any wine. We will definitely never be going back there again, not even a pub standard. (We went on a Monday evening so could be a management issue)

The location doesn't inspire much confidence, but the restaurant is cozy and inviting and has a relaxed atmosphere not always present at fine dining establishments. I came with a group of friends to try their tasting menu. They offer a vegetarian tasting menu (request when booking). The wait for the food was quite long, but when the courses arrived, it seemed the wait was worth it. The food was delicious and clever and just perfect for a winters evening. Will definitely return!!
Sam
This is one of the best restaurants I have been to . The food is amazing and it is very clear how passionate Lisa and Darren are about their restaurant. They graciously hosted my birthday party and I could not fault a thing . The food is of superior quality and the service is on another level . Such a treat and a wonderful evening. Will definitely be back many times. Try the mushroom tortellini-out of this world .

It’s a hidden gem. Super friendly owner. He setup a table for us on the outside as it was a beautiful night. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Very cute little place.

What a cool spot. Different and nice. Food is thoughtful and tasty. Portions are decent. If we weren’t on the hunt for good food places we would be back and back again.

I attended an awesome 40th at LBV last night. The food was absolutely divine, the service was great. I started with exotic mushroom tortellini which blew my mind - definitely the best mushroom dish I've ever eaten. For mains I had a kabeljou with lemon curd followed by a chocolate lava cake with salted caramel which I couldn't finish because it was too rich after all the other amazing dishes but still great. I should have gone for the creme brulee. We also had a strawberry and basil palette cleanser before dessert.
Sheri
Bad experience, not waste your money on a sub average restaurant trying to be fine dinning. Went here for lunch as part of restaurant week and what a disappointment. You clearly don’t get the food that is described when the “ chefs” are not there. Had the tuna starter which was full of sinew, I have never had that in my life. What bothers me the most is that when asked if we were enjoying and we said no, they didn’t seemed to care and did nothing to fix it.

La Bella Vitto, or more commonly known as LBV has been on our list for a long time. Just outside the heart of Sandton lies this quaint little bistro and wine bar.

The Welcoming
We walked into a warmly lit restaurant with staff smiling as they welcomed us in and seated us next to the wine closet. The decor at LBV is quite unusual as it doesn't seem to have a distinct theme. Each wall seems to be decorated with a different style, from brick and artificial plants to chalkboard with an array of drawings.

Other than the different decoration styles, LBV sure is lit for a cosy and romantic evening. Perfect for our taste.

We decided to visit LBV during Restaurant Week to see what they had in store for this seasonal occasion, seeing as they do pride themselves on their seasonal menu.

Starters
Starting off with a delicious bang. Say hello to the Cauliflower, almonds, parmesan and beurre noisette which was poured over all posh-like by our waiter.

We also got the Exotic mushroom tortellini with truffle, pine nuts and sage. This was a masterpiece. If you enjoy mushrooms then you will absolutely fall in love with this dish. Almost licked the bowl clean on this one. Well done LBV.

Both these starters were amazing. Plated to perfection, packed with flavour out of this world, making you just want more and more. Wish they were the mains, to be honest.

Mains
The mains were also quite lively but not as great as the starters. We had an Ostrich fillet with celeriac, fennel, raspberries with pieces of buttermilk rusks and black garlic. This was a really good pairing of flavours. The ostrich was cooked really well, very soft and tender, and it mixed so well with the celeriac and buttermilk rusks. That does sound like an odd combo but it worked so well.

We also grabbed the Champagne and Leek Risotto with walnuts and blue cheese, which, to be honest, was a letdown. Risotto is such a dangerous dish and this one sounded very exciting but each bite tasted the same and quickly became very monotonous.

Desserts
Now begins the next 3 dishes which all fell into the category of dessert. We got a palette cleanser that really felt more like a proper dessert. Vanilla ice-cream in greek yoghurt with these balls filled with green tea and rooibos. Those balls popped and filled your mouth with their very strong flavours. We didn't feel this can be classified as a palette cleanser though.

Next up was the real desserts. A Black Forest chocolate with berry jelly and plum ice cream. Very rich and oh so sweet chocolate cake next to an ice-cream that could almost be disguised as a sorbet as it had a hint of sourness.

The other dessert was the Tiramisu with coffee, vanilla and Kahlua. This dessert was not as sweet but kind of all over the place in terms of flavour.

Don't worry we aren't done yet. After this came another sweet treat. An ice cream cone filled with ... and topped with candy floss. These sweet treats came in a jar filled with sugar. LBV sure do have a sweet tooth. Suffice to say, we were completely sweetened up by the end of the evening.

Service
Our waiter seemed to be very new but this was in no way a bad thing. He was very attentive and kept on making sure we had everything we needed as well as clear the table in a prompt manner. It was only after mains that things started going down a bit. The dishes took longer to come out and finding him got more difficult, especially when we wanted to order a coffee to end off the evening. Decided to flag another waiter and order from him instead.

Value
LBV Bistro & Wine Bar is not a cheap place, even though Bistro means "a small restaurant, serving moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting". A 3-course meal for 2 and a bottle of wine and a coffee coming to R1000 is definitely not moderate pricing though.

Verdict
The evening started off really well on all fronts, it just didn't keep the bang till the end. We were a bit disappointed with the Restaurant Week menu, as it didn't feel like the dishes paired well with each other and LBV did seem like a place that would be able to do that very well.

TTT’s rating out of 5: Food - 3 | Service - 3.5 | Atmosphere – 4 | Value – 3

LBV gets a 'Good on Ye' from Two Tasty Tummies

We celebrated mothersday at LBV and it waa truly a great experience. I was at LBV long ago and with the new chefs (Lisa de beer) and partner its really changed into a great restaurant. I am really impressed and we had a fine dining experience that included a starter, main, desert and a glass of wine for R350 and the food is simply amazing. This place is a must try for any foodie out there.

I would give this little gem a 6 out of 5 if I could. We had the most incredible dining experience here for our anniversary. Lisa and Darren are a talented, special young couple. We will be back.

Honestly never fails to disappoint - I have been here the past 4 restaurant weeks and always just want to come back. Curious to try coming outside of restaurant week to see if its still value for money. But the atmosphere is great love sitting outside but inside can be quite romantic . love the décor - the staff just improve every time I go there - they are always wonderful and attentive and I always love the choice in food - different unique and tasty! If you haven't been its worth it. A little hidden but a gem to find!

Seen this restaurant often on Zomato and finally gave it a try for our first date night since baby has arrived.
It’s close to home so a plus wen yr late cos baby doesn’t want to go down for the night, and easy to find. Plenty of parking on a Saturday night.
However when you get out of your car be prepared as there is a bar in close vicinity playing rather loud bar music.
I booked online via Zomato, quick painless and easy. Another plus! However when we got there the reception was rather poor, no list checked and the restaurant was empty to my surprise.
Once seated however there was a much warmer welcome and once we chose the 9 course tasting menu we were asked if we would like to move to the outer area, which once we did the ambience was much better. We had a full view of the kitchen and could watch the prep, and there were other diners there also and the ambience right on point of what I was expecting.
The service thereafter excellent and prompt.
My favorite was the cauliflower soup and ostrich dishes. I’m not an ostrich fan but it was down right the best prepared ostrich I have ever tasted. After the 9 courses you are definitely stuffed, and if u love chocolate, the dessert is right up your alley.

A quaint little fine dining restaurant, and we will definitely be back.
Amazing food and service. Had the nine course Valentine’s Day tasting menu. Each course was a mouthful of heaven. An explosion of flavours beautifully presented.
The food had so much flavor. I have included pictures of my colleague’s meals. The presentation of the food was really awesome. I greatly took pleasure from the modest portion sizes. It was just enough for me especially since I don’t eat a lot😃

LBV has upped it’s game. What a wonderful experience - Great service, atmosphere and most importantly, the most delicious food. Down-to-earth fine dining, if that’s a thing.

2018/03: I went back for their 9 course tasting menu and luv’d it. My favourite courses was the apple meringue & goats cheese, risotto with blue cheese & Champagne, tastes of tiramisu! Will posts the pics.

2017 (spring): Visited LBV Bistro as part of the restaurant week special and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Started with a springbok carpaccio with truffle & mustard vinegarette...really good. For mains I had a mushroom risotto...I enjoyed the warm creamy flavours. And for dessert I ended with Chocolate, hazelnut, biscuits & passion fruit which was all very well put together!

A hidden gem located in behind Cramerville Village Centre in Bryanston! When I noticed that the chefs were from Cube Taste Kitchen I knew that this was going to sure be an experience worth ‘talking’ about so here’s my review:
Occasion - Business Year End Executive Dinner
Bookings - Made the 2 days in advance due to last minute change in plans and LBV was very kind to accommodate us. The restaurant was however very busy for a Thursday evening
Ambiance - Quaint, simple with very little decor that has somewhat a cozy feel and a very well organized open view kitchen area
Service - Our waiter was very friendly but I felt at times we had to ask to be served and had to tell him when we were ready for the next course
Menu - Don’t doubt the quality of the food by the quality of the menus, you will receive A4 sheets of paper staples together but this is NO reflection of the food! The food was plated so creatively and more importantly tasted fabulous. Every meal ordered was cooked to perfection. My side of the table opted for different starters so we could all try as much on the menu. Needless to say i was hoping no one wanted my prawn tails as they were really good (8/10). The salmon, duck and calamari would all get the same rating and the portion sizes for a starter was fairly size able considering a fine dining experience. Our mains lived up to the quality and creativity of the expectations set by our starters and I would highly recommend the salmon. There was a few that raved about the Pork Belly on the table as well as the lamb shoulder. As for dessert my fav was the chocolate lava cake - dessert shared again - my bowl was left with not a crumb, served with an amazing side ice cream which up until now I still am not sure of the flavor but was devine. I liked that the menu also caters for vegetarians and pescatarians.
Price - For a fine dining feel with a true experience through the creativity of the platting and more importantly the quality of the food LBV was great value for money
Occasions recommended for - Business dinners, anniversary celebrations, special birthday parties or perfect for a date night spoil!
What a lovely lovely evening. A cozy restaurant with friendly, very well-trained staff and a menu that's to die for. I had the duck breast as my starter and the pork belly as my main. Both of which were absolutely delicious! Everyone at the table were equally impressed with their food. Stand-outs were the mushroom risotto and the calamari starter. For dessert we all shared the Crème Brûlée (because by this time everyone was stuffed but had to at least try one dessert!). It was also utterly divine! Thanks for an amazing experience!

Everyone must please try the beef short rib gnocchi. It is really something special. Duck and orange (condensed milk!) starter also a delicious and different treat. Desserts we tried were not quite as impressive, but nice enough. All round, a tasty and satisfying experience.

I've driven past tons of times and didn't really see the restaurant but just the shopping centre. Decided to venture out for lunch. Also more especially since i heard the guys from Cube were cooking. Had the two course for R200 which was wonderful (part of the Restaurant week offering). Kudos to these guys. When I got my meal I was over the moon. The braised lamb looked simply amazing, and it tasted even better. It felt like heaven on a plate. A perfect combination of textures, flavours and colours.

For dessert I went for the chocolate. Delicious as usual.

Service was wonderful too. One thing I would've liked is maybe a homemade version of non alcoholic drinks(lemonade, juices etc). I'm not too keen on preserved ones. But that didn't make my lunch any less amazing.

Can't wait to go back!

Our last stop as part of restaurant week and by far our favourite. The food is full of flavor and portions are very generous. Great value for money and is sure to be a future favourite. Highly recommended.

So it’s Restaurant Week at the moment and naturally an exciting few weeks for all the foodies of South Africa. Restaurant Week allows us to try some of South Africa’s best restaurants at really great prices. This is Restaurant Week’s 5th anniversary and the spring season is running until the 5th November. Last weekend I visited LBV Bistro and Wine Bar. They’re an Italian restaurant based in Bryanston, in the Cramerview Village Centre. I’ve heard great things about this restaurant so decided I’d make a reservation with them for Restaurant Week.

Enjoyed this place. The booking system was efficient and very automated which I liked. The staff and management were great and food was good. I will definitely go back

Hidden away at the back of Cramerview Village Shopping Centre in Bryanston is LBV Bistro. I had heard great things about this restaurant but had no idea where it was. My sister decided to have her birthday dinner here and what a perfect restaurant it was for the occasion.

As we walked in, the staff greeted us in the most friendly manner and showed us to our table. The service was fairly quick as it was a Monday evening and the restaurant wasn't too busy. The dim lighting and simple decor with different shades of brown creates a lovely relaxed ambience.

To drink, I ordered a cola tonic and Sprite Zero, which came in the biggest glass. I was wishing for a pasta so I decided to try out the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Pasta. The crust on the chicken was amazing, the pasta was cooked to perfection and the portion was so big that I even had leftovers. The other food at the table looked just as good.

Their desserts are beautifully plated. They gave my sister the Chocolate Lava Cake as a birthday treat. I had a taste of it and I have to say that it was the best one I've had to date. I also ordered a cappuccino after my meal, which was pretty good.

LBV Bistro is a great restaurant to try out if you are in the area. The food was delicious and the service was great. I would love to go back!

Loved the starter and dessert! The lamb main could have done with some jus or a light sauce.Service from the waiters was beyond excellent!Overall it was a good experience.

We had a birthday party here for 25 people, they accommodated us perfectly. The food was out of this world and the service impeccable. Thank you!

Absolutely smitten with the new dishes at LBV! We went there for dinner on Monday night (16.10.2017), the food was fabulous. We had the springbuck and artichoke dishes to start. Pork belly (an old favorite) and the mushroom risotto for mains, and the cheesecake and chocolate desserts. All beautifully presented and expertly prepared by chefs Darren & Lisa. The service was also impeccable. Can’t wait to go back! 🥂

An absolute hidden gem of note!

This place serves impeccable food, accompanied by a fine dining feel and an elegant setting. All this is obviously followed by a hefty price tag however, it is definitely worth every penny!

The food variety is not the largest however, all the food is prepared to absolute perfection. Waiter etiquette is of high standards and the service was pristine - as can be expected from such a place.

A lovely place to bring-and-spoil a loved one on special occasions.
Gergana Young
Great restaurant. We came here for our anniversary, the food was really delicious and the service was really good. Everything we ordered was really tasty, but the pork belly was probably the highlight. It is also nice that they have corkage.
Kimera Singh
Had lunch on Saturday afternoon 16 September at this cute little hidden gym. The restaurant was clean and waiters so friendly. I had a halloumi starter and the salmon for mains. Both were absolutely delicious, I would maybe change my fried halloumi for the grilled the next time. Definitely will be back.

My husband and I dined at LBV for the first time on a date night one Tuesday evening. We were greeted by multiple polite and friendly staff from the moment we walked in the door and could sit anywhere we preferred. The restaurant was clean, cosy and despite the fact that there were only about 3 or 4 other tables there, it still had a very pleasant atmosphere.

The menu is brief and comprehensive but still offers a wide enough selection of everything. All our orders took the time one would expect, the food was delicious (and quite creative), and the portions were equal to their price and quality.

But it was McDonald - our polite, friendly, professional and efficient waiter who totally made our evening! He offered us exceptional service throughout the evening and portrayed an attitude of nothing being too much effort for him - love that!

We used a voucher currently being offered on Hyperli. Having a voucher for a fine dining meal has the potential to be quite awkward but LBV Bistro's staff handled is so exceptionally well! It was so refreshing to be dealing with staff who were not only totally clued up on the offering, but also handled it with such simplicity and class.

Without anything to fault this hidden gem on, a 5 star rating is fitting. We will definitely be back and would recommend LBV Bistro to anyone!

We visited this restaurant last night after seeing many good reviews. Service was poor, waitron didn't seem to understand the concept of bringing clean glasses for new bottles of beer, or a glass to be used with a bottle of water. He was either pushing us to order while in the middle of conversations or nowhere to be seen when plates needed to be cleared.

The food was ok, gnocchi was chewy and tasteless, Lamb Shank ok.

Disappointing evening out
The Tubby Fellow
Online booking facility is wonderful. All restaurants should have an online facility like this.

Food: Crispy skin salmon - a little over cooked. Rib eye steak - not the usual tender piece of steak that I am used to.

Service: Non existent. I had to phone the restaurant to get them to send a waiter to the table.

Overall: The overall experience was poor and left a bad taste in the mouth.
Dale Walden
Lovely evening, manager and staff very attentive. Cosy restaurant. We shared the Apple and blue cheese salad - huge for 2 people - but very tasty. The gnocchi was great but very very rich. I had the duck gnocchi and my partner had the lamb...neither of us could finish our portions. Wine choice excellent. A hidden gem

Can't decide what was better, the food or the service
What a lovely little bistro with amazing food and the friendliest staff. My fiancé and I had a 3 course meal and could not fault a thing. Will definitely be back

I first dined at LBV years ago, just as they'd opened, and was pleased to see how this little neighbourhood bistro has matured into the bustling and cosy restaurant it's become.

I had fond memories of their calamari starter but unfortunately was disappointed on my subsequent visit, nor was I impressed by the prawns. Our mains, however, were delicious. I had the roast pork belly which was cooked to perfection and well complimented (albeit a bit sweet), whilst my friend loved her lamb shank. For dessert I had the chocolate lava cake which was decadent and oozy (as it should be) and my friend had the creme brulee.

All in all a lovely experience and I'll definitely be back to try other starter options.
Sungula Nkabinde
Wow. Gotta give praise where praise is due. Cosy. Intimate. But the biggest highlight is the food. Best meal we've had in a long time. I think this is going to be our go-to place
Junior
I was a little concerned when I saw the exterior of the place but I was quite impressed when I saw the interior decor.

The food is pretty good. I had some hake and my date had salmon. Both were very fresh and delicious.

I suggest booking a table before hand

A little gem hidden away at the back of the Cramerville Shopping Centre. They've been there since 2013, who knew, as yesterday was our first experience. Food was brilliant!!! Decor is beyond cute!!! I had stuffed calamari, very unique dish packed full of flavour. Hubby had the pulled lamb shoulder and my word was it amazing!!!! The service was great, not hovering over you 24/7, but close enough to call them anytime. Our waiter was full of smiles and incredibly helpful. A definite must. We'll be back!!
Donné
Overall great experience, will definitely be back. From the moment we entered until we left, 10/10!!!!
Highly recommended, and cannot wait to be back.

Amazing restaurant. Very friendly manager and staff. The food was bursting with flavor. Would recommend to friends and family. Had a fantastic evening.

Wonderful hidden gem! If you didn't know the place was there...its very likely that you would just drive past. Delightful decor and generous portions of delicious food.
Krinisha Kara
Such a gorgeous little intimate spot! I walked in and my heart melted! Such friendly, always around service. I felt extremely comfortable and welcomed. The food is perfection with each meal having a special touch, looking like a masterpiece. It is definitely a gem of a place!

I have been to LBV Bristo twice. On both occasion I have had a wonderful experience. LBV Bristro is hidden behind Cramerview shopping Centre. From the moment you walk into the restaurant you are made to feel that you have entered a fine dining establishment. The staff look professional and behave in the same manner. The decor is warm and inviting whilst retaining a modern quality.

The food is served beautifully and tastes as good as it looks. The portions are large and you certainly get what you are paying for. I recommend the beer battered fish, the rabbit gnocchi and the pork belly.

LBV Bistro is definitely one to try. What an awesome way to spend my Wife's Mother's Day. The food was amazing, the friendly staff willing and eager to please. Will definitely be back.

We were four and very excited to try this restaurant during Restaurant Week as I believe it gives the chef a chance to cook outside of their normal menu. So for each course we tried both meals. Starters were a choice of either pork belly or mushroom & cheese fritters. The pork belly was tasty but our friends who had ordered the fritters could not see or taste the mushroom. The mains beef brisket was tasty & the kingklip fine enough but did not seem that it was properly defrosted before cooking. Dessert choices was between a rock hard cookie that could not be consumed with spoon or teeth and the feta/honey cheesecake was ok but not exceptional. The food was not inspired and we would have done better choosing off the regular menu. It would also have been cheaper as cost for the 4 of us was R1730 (including tip). Dissapointing! It will make us leary of participating next year, I believe

LBV is definitely a hidden gem - in an inconspicuous part of town.

We were greeted by Macdonald - the most friendly, energetic waiter ever. Always smiling. Accommodating of the indecisiveness we had. And willing to answer all our questions and explain everything.

The food was yum! Absolutely loved the chicken salad!
I think, the only thing I would critic is that there were only 3 pieces of stuffed calamari in the Calamari dish. Would have definitely loved more!

The decor is so warm and welcoming.
I'll definitely be back.

We had a lovely 4 course dinner at LBV Bistro during Restaurant Week. The staff was friendly and attentive. We just couldn't always hear what the waiter, Kennedy, was saying as he spoke very softly, but he was very friendly and professional and overall a great waiter.

The restaurant had a great ambience and is quite small but cosy. I liked the decor which is modern and funky. The table was set beautifully and professionally.

The food was overall great. We loved the Mosbolletjie pre-starter which is so South African and took me back to my youth when my mom used to bake it. The pork belly was so tender and tasty and that bit of crackling served with it was so crunchy and delicious. The fritters was a bit oily, but it tasted amazing. They served a delicious pallet cleanser in between our meals which was a lemon sorbet. The Brisket was very tasty served with the mash and vegetables. The Kingklip was a bit of a let down as it was overcooked and very dry and had a tough texture to it. The malva pudding was a bit dense and didn't taste like the traditional malva, but the added items made up for that. The feta and honey cheesecake was very nice, although a bit sweet, and I espesially liked that they made it with a phyllo pastry base. It was like baklava underneath the cheesecake.

I would definately go back to LBV Bistro as it's a very nice restaurant and the food was beautifully presented, well seasoned and very tasty overall.
Shane Van Jaarsveldt
Better than the average, decor cost, friendly service. Pricing was good with a well priced wine list. I had a great gluten free burger served on a mushroom base. The rocket salad I ordered was replaced with a nice Greek salad as the chef refused to serve the rocket he had as it was sub standard - very mature!

Overall a nice experience and I would go back. One tiny fault was the triple fried fries were a. It stale tasting and the taste of the cooking oil was stronger than I would have liked.
Jennifer Cochrane-Murray
Absolutely delicious food, great service and a nice chilled vibe. I had the salmon with gnocchi which was to die for 😍 Cooked perfectly and a generous portion. My boyfriend had the fillet which was so cooked to perfection and delicious. They didn't have avo for our salad starter but happily added for cheese in place. Will definitely be back soon!
Rebecca Paulsen
Our ten year anniversary was celebrated last night at LBV Bistro. What an absolutely incredible night! I had the pork belly with bacon and brandy jam, and my boyfriend had the braised duck gnocchi, which is probably the best thing I've ever tasted. The service was quick and attentive (thanks, McDonald 😉). Their wine list is amazing, too. 10/10 and I can't wait to go back!
Neil Hymers
Comfortable bistro style decor. Good wine list. Attentive service. Disappointing food. " Crunchy" calamari starter was underdone & raw at centre. Duck gnocchi sauce was thick/gooey and way too much tomato. Killed the flavour. Kingklip good as was crispy skin Salmon & pork belly. Desserts hopeless. Deconstructed melktert was a solid tasteless jelly. Didn't finish, creme brulee cheese cake likewise. Yet nobody asked why we didn't finish them. Good coffee.

My new favorite restaurant! This was our first visit to LBV. Delicious food, friendly and efficient staff, great atmosphere - what more can one ask for?!
Frans Sauermann
Great service! They even gave us champagne for free and upgraded our wine! The waiters are friendly and the place is nice and cozy! Would recommend it!
Bianca
Wow so impressed with this restaurant! First of all, when we got there we immediately got the sense of a romantic vibe, very nice and cosy with the candlelight. The waiter, staff and floor manager was amazing, such sincere people. The food was really special, from the started through to the desert. Every plate was put together so nicely and the flavors and combinations really compliment the dish really good. Well done LBV. We will be back soon!
John Braham
Went there for lunch today. I had the sliced fillet steak which had sinew running through every slice the vegetables were overcooked. My friend had the beer battered hake which was grey in colour. The beers were not very cold. I will not be returning.
Jason
A favourite of mine. The decor creates a warm and relaxed atmosphere to enjoy the great food and a lovely selection of wine, craft beer and spirits; all while not breaking the bank.

This is a great restaurant and a must to try.

It is not situated very well and we discovered this restaurant by accident. I am very glad we did.

Ambiance: Relaxed, trendy, warm and welcoming. Perfect place to entertain friends and chat.

Service: Great, the manager is very involved and they are very concerned about allergies (great!).The first time we went to this restaurant, they were very concerned abiut allergies. Unfortunately we did not experience that the second time. But waiter was friendly and attentive.

Menu: A variety of great combinations (not too many, and it remains difficult to choose) offered at a reasonable fine dining price. Reading the menu is mouth watering.

Food: Excellent! You cannot go wrong with anything you choose! The presentation is great, food arrives fast, and you can expect a perfect balance in all the food options.

I am very satisfied with this restaurant and can definitely recommend it to anyone!

This restaurant was part of restaurant week this year, so we decided to visit them during restaurant week.

The venue is small enough to receive attention from staff, but big enough to nit feel cramped in.

Service is marvelous, with the waiter explaining everything in detail. The restaurant week menu was great. We had pork belly for starters, lamb main and chocolate brownie dessert.

The food is wonderfully cooked and presented.
Keri Wilson
Amazing staff, fantastic service, outstanding food! My husband and I went there for our anniversary and we were greeted with complimentary champagne and a warm welcome! The starters were delicious and we can highly recommend the porkie yorkies and calamari. For mains we had the lamb and duck gnocchi which was out of this world! We finished off our incredible evening with Chocolate Lava Cake and Pumpkin donuts...Yum! Fabulous evening we will definitely be back!
Sarah Campbell
This place is an unknown delight. The casual bistro vibe is unpretentious and welcoming. The staff are cheerful and competent ...and the food is delicious. I had the to die for pork belly and tasted the wagu meatballs which were also great! Our table was right next to a hens party which was quite noisy but the manager did explain and apologize. That's sometimes all it takes! Definitely worth a visit and it's very well price!

After seeing the reviews and pictures of special occasions celebrated at LBV, my fiancé and I chose to celebrate our 4 year anniversary at this restaurant.
I was sad that it turned out to be an ordinary dinner date, with no special effort taken as seen with other guests experience. I was also stunned to see a summer menu on Zomato but a winter menu still being served in the restaurant.

For starters we had the jalapeno poppers and squid head stir fry. My main was average ( very dry ) - I had the lemon and herb chicken breast stack. My fiancé's main tasted delicious - He had the braised lamb gnocchi.

For dessert we had the delicous molten lava cake which combined with salted caramel ice cream, caramel popcorn and toasted peanuts was an amazing combination. The setting is laid back yet with a touch of class. At the end of our meal we received a complimentary shooter from the manager, who is such an exceptional host. He made sure we were doing great.
Victor
Great restaurant and highly recommended. Service was very slow and mains were served cold even though the restaurant was not so busy and we arrived early. Food is great, well presented and quality ingredients. Comprehensive Wine list with great food paring. Highly recommend for a relaxed dinner in a comfortable yet sophisticated setting.
Leigh Dermick
After hearing may good things decided to give LBV a try. It was sadly a disappointing dinner. Waiter was untrained/ inexperienced. Nothing on menu grabbed me or the other 5 people with us. We eventually decided on a few options and no one was wowed. Not terrible but not great either. Best dish of night was chicken livers for starters. Would we return? Sadly not
Lindsay Shuttleworth
Great atmosphere but disappointing good- the lamb pasta sauce was delicious but the lamb itself was fatty and chewy. The line fish was bland and lacking a sauce. It was a pity because the vibe is quite special.
Carolyn Purdy
A quiet and quaint atmosphere. Great for an evening with family and friends with some wine. Pastas and salads are great and a true combination of great flavors
Roelia Schoeman
What a fabulous Restaurant Week experience! We were treated like gold from the moment we walked in. Awesome service and fantastic food. Every single item we ordered was delicious and stunningly presented. We will definitely be back! Thank you LBV!
Nico Henning
Awesome restaurant. Food was on point. Great environment and Jacques the host is super friendly! Service is incredible. Had the prawn starter and kingklip main.

Oct 2018 - back for another restaurant week menu, 3 courses, starter of pork belly and pumpkin risotto, followed by sous vide duck and lamb tortellini, ended with chocolate mousses and apple mille feuille. Every dish looked and tasted delicious.

My only issue here after visiting thrice now, is its not air conditioned, in today's joburg heat at lunch, the fans were just not good enough.

Oct 2016 - loved this place, on reading the restaurant week menu, I couldnt wait for my booking. Everything from the starter to dessert was amazing. We opted for the pork belly and prawn starter, followed by a fish and lamb main and a chocolate brownie dessert. For me that was probably the best lamb I have eaten, and that pork belly just as good. I loved that the chef went to each table. Its always about attention to detail over and above good food, my waiter was on the ball with drinks top up and friendliness. I cant wait to return.
Thabie Lechesa
We went to LBV for the first day of Restaurant Week which was last night. We had the pork belly starter which was truly divine. In between our starters and mains, we were served a palate cleanser- a lovely sorbet. For our mains we had the lamb rack which was unfortunately a little bit under-cooked but everything else on the plate went well with the meat. The waiter was great but kept apologizing in advance for things going wrong because "this is our first day of Restaurant week". I eventually asked him to stop. The desert was not to our liking. The chocolate mousse lacked texture and the chocolate was just overpowering. My husband had the goat's cheese desert, in a phylo pastry--a little too much on the bitter side but the almond ice cream was wonderful. The ambience is great- just enough tables. The floor manager was attentive and did a great job. All in all, I loved this restaurant which for me was a nice neighborhood hidden gem. I will be going back in the future, without a doubt.
Linda Meyer
Loved the experience. The food was really good - the burgers are a must! Great selection of craft beers. Limited spirit brand selection. Please expand you whiskey and tequila brands. 😉
