Review Jackson’s Real Food Market - Bryanston

devarpan chakraborty
Jackson’s is not a market or restaurant, it’s an institution. With people realising the importance of natural ingredients, and produce, Jackson’s is an entry point to that lifestyle. The Bryanston market has a wide selection of meats, ingredients, oils, and fruits and vegetables which are organic, fresh and with minimal preservatives. Although I feel the fresh produce selection is smaller here than Kyalami. Surprisingly, some of the products are cheaper than even online retailers. There’s also an expansive restaurant with outdoor seating. The menu is good, internet is decently fast, and prices are mid to high range. It’s good place to work as well, if you like. The shopping center has paid parking with the 1st hour free. Service is good and food comes out without a long wait. Definitely recommended.

I love everything about this place. You go in for the dining experience, and it's great. You order a delivery, and it's still great. Healthy, fresh and low carb! I would definately recommend the Rainbow health bowl.

Get food, a great market, and great staff. The food caters to all dietary requirements (I personally love their meat section and fresh sourdough). The restaurant / cafe is well priced, and the food quality is out of this world.

These guys are a true gem. Authentic healthy, organic, vegan etc and offering is all very good across the board. Excellent variety. also has great sit down area. Not only for heath "nuts".

My husband and I absolutely love this market. Awesome fresh produce and other health items. The restaurant is quite nice with a great out door sitting area for summer. They have a wide selection of different food, from vegan, to burgers, and it’s free range meat. Great for the family and a Sunday morning chill.

Truly happy and impressed with the products and service provided by Jackson’s. If you’re looking for a one stop store that supplies sustainable, organic products from cleaning detergents to groceries this is the store for you. Quality is unmatched. Experience is life changing. Staff are competent and solution orientated.

I'm giving it a 5 as I found no reason not to. The food was delicious! The staff are excellent, 10/10! This place doesn't only offer delicious items off their menu but they also have a shop where you can buy organic products and produce. I see it as a step in the right direction when it comes to healthy eating and consumption consciousness. Above all, Jacksons I've found to be affordable. No ridiculous prices for good food!

Lovely atmosphere. Food’s fresh and tasty. Cakes to die for…. 🤤. Chocolate and all kinds of goodies too shop for in the market. Well done to staff and management. 🙌🙌

The trend and lifestyle towards 'whole food' is growing and with good reason. Customers are now more knowledgeable and discerning when it comes to how, where and when our food is sourced. This is of course, the first branch of Jackson’s, the other, is at Kyalami Corner. Both stock organic, locally sourced and seasonal produce as well as a plethora of whole and health foods, prepared foods, health supplements and more. My pizza had a fantastic crunchy base with enough toppings to satisfy my tastebuds and hunger. The staff are welcoming, friendly and attentive even at the busiest of brunch times. Bonus points for having a large open deck to enjoy your meal while your car is safely parked undercover.

I was looking for Off the Gluten Path's products and I found quite a few. Quite a bit more pricey than other stockists and a bit of a drive from where I stay. But the first stockist I found with Off the Gluten Path's puff pastry and phyllo pastry along with the other usual suspects. There are also a variety of other gluten free products.

Happy meals = Healthy meals ❤️ Great shop & restaurant, delicious food and friendly service. I love the concept of healthy eating and shopping at the same store. We've been to the shop countless times over the last 2.5 years and we're never disappointed. Really worth a visit and coming back!

The food here is delicious and the staff are incredibly attentive. The grocery store also has an incredible selection for all your daily needs.

Your one-stop health store with a large variety of healthy options. The store is clean and well planned out. Definitely a place for the refined palate. Great coffee, great food and a very convenient place to get all types of healthy goods - vegan, vegetarian, lacto, diabetic-friendly, Keto, paleo, dairy-free. A dream store for health nuts!

We found a whole lots of organic food and vegan food here within a very reasonable price range! Thank you to the team for a wonderful shopping experience and friendly smiles 😃

I went to Jacksons with my boyfriend. I have always loved the shopping for fresh healthy foods here. Today I took him out for lunch. I had the burger and my partner had he wrap with chips. The burger was good but not great. It's tasty, it has a lot of filling but the party itself did not feel like it was freshly cooked. The wrap was unbelievably delicious. The chips we sent back as they were too oily (and they still charged). Service was decent. Lovely place. Amazing view.

Great selection of interesting food brands. We ate and the food was very tasty, and shopped. Have never seen bacon sold like this before

Wide selection of fresh, organic health cafe foods. A good atmosphere, with outside seating overlooking bryanston views. There is an organic food market store inside. Menu prices higher, likely due to organic and unique ingredients. Recommend the Beyond Burger, Vegan Ranger sandwich and fresh smoothies.

We arrived and were seated immediately but then it took quite a while to be attended to. Finally we were assisted and the food was quite quick. I ordered The Surprise which consisted of sourdough bread, avo, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and it was delicious my only issue is that the toasted sourdough bread tends to be a little too hard.
David Hangman
Despite the food being somewhat tasty, the price is exorbitant and does not to any extent match the quality of the food. The staff are friendly and welcoming, however I found the manager, (not owner - Gary is friendly, professional and accommodating ) unprofessional, unhelpful and pathetically sarcastic. I would advise asking Gary for assistance and ignore the manager if you would prefer not having an unpleasant interaction.

The outdoor seating is very nice, staff are so friendly and honest and knowledgeable over which menu items taste better etc. There are many vegan options, and vegetarian as well.

I ordered the toasted cheesy vegan spinach pesto grilled cheese sandwich which was very, very delicious, creamy and flavoursome. (5/5)
My mom ordered the toasted vegan Ranger which I found very creative, the texture and taste of the vegan chicken strips was really yum.
We also ordered a plate of potato fries in olive oil but they were too oily and too crispy. (3/5)

For drinks I ordered a dirty Chai vegan latte which was a bit too sweet and honestly tasted like a caffe latte and not a chai, so I was pretty disappointed (1/5)
My mom ordered the eye opener, but felt the carrot was a bit too overpowering.
I had been looking forward to visiting Jackson’s and finally made the trip, the market did not disappoint and the service was unbelievably excellent, the staff went above and beyond. We decided to sit and try the menu, the service at the restaurant was very disappointing though... ordered water with my order but it never came and the food just took very long. Our waiter did apologize when the food finally arrived but it would’ve been nice if they had informed us during the wait so we don’t sit there for the longest wondering what’s going on. The food was great and really enjoyed it. Lots of options on food and the location and setup of the of the place is wonderful. Will definitely be returning and hoping the service issue will be addressed. Looking forward to my next visit.

While the food was delicious, it took 30 minutes to arrive and the service was terrible. No one waiter introduced themselves to me and identified themselves as my waiter. Instead, I seemed to have several waiters all scrambling to figure out where my food was, and, based on what I saw, I suspect that the order was not actually put in when I placed it. I had to follow up regarding my order as nobody seemed to be checking in on me. On the whole, a disappointing experience.

Always used to love coming to Jackson's. They used to have fries made with coconut oil, but apparently they've now decided to use vegetable oil. Disappointed.
Gareth Cherry
This is the first time going here and was really impressed by the quality of food that is served.Really enjoyed the meal, the coffee and the ambience. The average cost per meal is not high either. If you are into health food, then this is the place for you.
Joy Tupholme
Love the concept - the food, setting, healthy and vege options are all great but (and this is a big but) the service is terrible. So unfriendly that it's bordering on rude. This is my third or fourth time and I think my last because it's unpleasant being served by unfriendly, unhelpful staff.

Besides the service, I wasn't very happy that as a place with so many vegetarian and health options, your waitress didn't ask if I wanted my chips in beef fat or coconut oil and just served them in the beef fat, which I couldn't eat.

Didn't find the vege sandwich tasty - it was flavourless and the vegan butter wasn't a great combo.

Overall disappointing I'm afraid.
Sita
I love, love LOVE the location and scenery of this place. That outdoor balcony seating in that location is prime! (Rating: 5/5)

The menu is very vegan friendly as well, with some vegan items as well as vegetarian options that can easily be 'veganised' (yaaaay!)

I had the Beyond Burger - the most meat-like vegan burger patty I've ever had. Quite tasty, but the bun didn't seem fresh. At R135 for a burger and fries, I expect quality (Rating: 2.5/5)

I also had the most DELICIOUS smoothie ever! 'Night In White Satin' made with coconut milk, almond butter, dates, vanilla extract and deliciousness! (Rating: 5/5)

Sadly, the menu doesn't have a plain fruit salad menu item (how come?), so we asked the kitchen to throw together a medley of all the fruit available. The result was sub par for a place with so many fruit options available, judging by the smoothies available.

(Please add fruit salad to the menu. I mean, you already have fruit in the kitchen anyways)

Despite it all, the scenery, ambience and vegan-friendly menu stole my heart so I'll definitely be back again.

Such a beautiful location,
friendly and quick service,
delicious and healthy food
and the prices aren’t bad either.

Would definitely go again!
Restaurants like these are really scarce and hard to find!

We’ve been frequenting Jackson’s for well over a year now, and not only visit the restaurant on almost a weekly basis but do most of our grocery shopping there as well. Their support for a Banting style diet has been an enormous help to me this last year, besides which I have always found their meals to be delicious, staff friendly and helpful, and the ambience welcoming and inviting. Can not recommend them enough!

First time trying out this spot and very disappointed with the confusion of the food market vs restaurant. Shopped at the food market whilst waiting for a table, sat down had a lovely breakfast and then when we advised the waiter we wanted to still shop more and to pay for everything at once he said ‘no cause I won’t get my tip’. We then received the bill and noticed that the item was then included but told any additional items would have to be paid for separately. After asking a team leader, he stated the same but then changed the story and said we were then able to. Why does a customer have to pay for two transactions for restaurant vs food market when you are the same establishment? We then left the item and paid for only the breakfast.

I’ve had some fairly good experiences at Jackson’s and some terrible experiences. I prefer getting takeaways from Jackson’s and last night I had a takeaway Beyond Burger which is a vegan burger that tastes almost exactly like a meat burger and It was amazing !!
Lucian
After an early morning meeting, we stopped at Jacksons for brunch. We were seated and placed our drink orders (cappucino and cafe latte). Once received, we placed our mains (The Famous and Glaze burger with extra avo). The first burger which I ordered ( asked for medium) was burnt to death. I called the waitress which in turn took my dead burger away. A few minutes later, my medium burger arrived. I enjoyed it.

The first time I was there, the service was quick and the Nourishing Vegan Bowl (WHICH IS STILL ON THE ONLINE MENU) was delicious. I chose this place a second time specifically because of that dish. But it has been taken off the menu in store and they said they can’t make it for me because they don’t have all the ingredients, which is rubbish because everything in that bowl is on the menu. It took about 15 minutes and several times to ask before I got this ridiculous answer. The service was so slow and couldn’t get anything quicker than 10 minutes from asking (at least twice), not even a glass of water. Won’t be back. A pity.

Jackson’s is a wonderful place to go , especially for a mixed food family. My husband eats everything whereas I am vegan and often find very little to eat at most restaurants. The choice was wonderful for both of us. Healthy, fresh and beautifully presented.

Delightful spot for a weekend breakfast stop, especially after a Park Run or a walk with your dogs. Service was a bit on the slow side, but the food was delicious and worth the wait.

I often stop in for a quick lunch or breakfast after my weekly organic shopping. I love the Matcha Latte, burgers( one of top 5 in Joburg in my book), excellent breakfasts and delicious gluten free sugar free cheesecake without the guilt ! Everything is organic, grain fed and sustainable yet tastes sinfully good. Service is good. The one negative is that it can get frenzied and too noisy on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Eat Like A King
A quick little lunch at Jackson’s today. Service is good, my waiter Victor was attentive. Burger is delicious, fresh homemade bun, thinly sliced onion, I asked for it to med-rare and it was spot on. Their lemon twist was exactly what the doctor ordered for my scratchy throat. Loving their lunch specials, I’ll be back to try the chicken and avo wrap!
Gary
So annoying that you don't take reservations. Puts a real damper when you want to take someone to breakfast and all the tables are taken. I don't understand like having to play breakfast Russian roulette.
Kelly
Great vibe, music and food options. The market next door is a healthy persons haven. Food is simple and view is lovely. One main lady was a little rude when we tried to move to the sun but maybe she was having a bad day. Other than that I will be back again. Free WiFi, healthy options and a space one can work or chill out.
Sharise Smith
The food, vibe and menu is really fantastic. But the service is disappointing and unfortunately that ruins the experience. Plenty of room for improvement. Hoping for a better experience next time we come.

Went to Jackson's for brunch after our park run.A hefty R78 for a basic 1 piece of toast with bacon and eggs. Understandably the restaurant was busy but I had to follow up 3 times for my cappuccino which I received (not hot) and only once my breakfast was already finished. Very dissapointing experience overall.
Lenee Green
Always a lovely breakfast experience, nice to sit outside on a warm morning. The wraps
are delicious, the carb-free chicken and avocado wrap is amazing . Really like the peanut butter choc smoothie.
Jessica Armstrong
Fresh, healthy and tasty what more could you want? As a new vegetarian I’m always on the lookout for places that are more accommodating to vegetarians and vegans and this restaurant caters so well to all kinds. I love the market which sells organic and fresh ingredients. Lovely atmosphere at the restaurant as well everything about it is homely and welcoming. Had the most divine breakfast and it really was reasonably priced. The waiters are also very kind and welcoming. Loved it.

Jackson's Real Food Market is a restaurant and grocery store serving up organic, healthy food. The menu is great, with delicious juices and exciting breakfasts.

My husband ordered the Liver Surprise and I had ordered the Bacon and Egg Quiche. The downfall to our experience was the wait time on our food. We received our juices soon after we ordered but had to wait a while for our food.

While walking through the restaurant, we noticed a bakery with the most beautiful cakes and treats.Their grocery store sells everything, from vegetables to sugar free chocolate.
Caroline
This is the second time I’ve been to Jackson’s in the past few weeks. The food is sadly unremarkable and the service is terrible. Took 20 minutes to get a waiter to take an order the first time and had to wait nearly as long this time. Sat with an empty plate in front of me for quite a while today before it got collected and various waiters came up to my table with dishes I hadn’t ordered! It’s really sad as one does want to eat organic and free range but it’s not worth it if the experience is this poor. 😔
Let Them Eat Cake
Nice relaxed place for a quick bite to eat. Lovely for summer as you can sit outside, with a view. Versatile menu, and the staff are accomodating should you request an addition/elimination to the meal.
Love the market section attached to it, with such a wide variety of fresh veggies.:-)
Guys a must if you’re Vegan in Johannesburg and accepting to see other products as courses outside the Vegan world if not I’m sorry as this place have something for all people I’m very impressed will definitely return well done both at the restaurant as the shop before I’m prepare to give higher marks I need to understand their lowest level which must be high otherwise they can’t reach top notch Once again don’t miss this place!

Not going back there to eat again. Should have went somewhere else. And next time, definitely doing that.
Was there for roof top yoga with my sister and we decided to have breakfast there. We waited for so long for the table. We walked around and examined the whole store and ran out what to talk about on the couch waiting. We even considered going to woolies at Design Quarter.
We asked for coffee, took way long, when we asked for refills, took even longer with our waiter forgetting. And getting orders mixed up. Juices I wanted, which were many on option (not all to my taste so didn’t take the first available thing, didn’t have one at all actually) were either no longer made, but there was no indication of saying that or they didn’t have stock of ingredients, and not one specific one, there were many.
Got my food finally. Rather overpriced for something so simple. Some yogurt, açai berry, strawberries, muesli and banana. When I ordered, the waiter made eyes like saucers, like it’s the first time he heard the word açai (it was in the title of the dish). He kept on asking me in such tone like I’m stupid and wrong. Had to show him the menu even.
Service was horrible! Manager never approached us, waiter was inattentive and had to be fished out of crowds of people all the time and reminded of our food or when it’s coming. No one apologised for any delays. Very disappointing. I really wanted to like the place.
And it’s definitely not R150 for two (approximately). I had a rather cheap option and two coffees and it was much more than that just for me alone.

Although the food and ambience were delightful, we were completely taken aback by the fact that we were summarily asked to pay our bill and leave as soon as we had finished our meal and drinks - because there were other people waiting to be seated. In addition, it might be prudent to remember that over-service is as bad as under-service - so being asked (literally) every five minutes whether everything is okay really does become intolerable.
ROBERT R
Great view of the passing parade and river. Food was slow and disappointing when it arrived. Avoid the coconut oil chips. I left feeling my home made wrap is more appetizing. Ps pork can’t hormone fed.
Linguini
We went for late lunch at 4.30pm on a Wednesday and the place was empty. And by empty I mean it took us a few minutes to actually find a waitress inside to ask if the restaurant was open. She said yes and we sat outside. The terrace is beautiful and the overall atmosphere was lovely - very calm. However, our food experience wasn't good. The waitress said they didn't have avocado to make the Green Monster smoothie, but we still ordered it without it. To our surprise, my husband's Pan fried Hake came with lots of avo on the side (?) - not sure what happened there. His fish was very... well, fishy, but he did enjoy the veggies. My meal was stir fried noodles with veggies and chicken, veeeeeery spicy but I liked the dish overall although most of my friends wouldn't have been able to eat it - Too hot. The service was really slow and the food took forever to arrive to our table even though the restaurant was completely empty. Oh, the chips fried in olive oil tasted nice but they were very soggy. We enjoyed the market and bought lots of things to take home, but I don't think we will be returning to the restaurant in a hurry, especially if time is not on our side.
Sippy&nibbles
Overpriced and simply the worst service I've had in longer than I can remember. Nice view, if a 250ml beer for R55 is worth it. And when we resorted to calling the manager to find out where our waiter was who we had seen twice since seated (we were now finishing mains) had, get this, gone for lunch... Not bringing other side items which we had been waiting for since ordering. Pathetic
Estelle DeBeer
Other than buying lovely fresh, ethically farmed produce here, the restaurant serves very tasty food. I don't eat hamburgers. At all, ever. I had a bite of my husband's burger and now we go every Saturday for my "fix". The sweet potato fries are delicious. The tomato sauce & mayo that they make is sooo worth it - again stuff I usually avoid. My only criticism is that it's mostly for people following a banting diet - which I'm not. So I have no good dessert/cake options that isn't full of cream or cheese. A small price to pay for a great shopping & food experience
The Schoeman Brothers
I had a delicious and satisfying dinner here. I got the penne bolognaise and it was very tasty. When I went there was a hole in the balcony but I have recently discovered it has been repaired. Very nice place and will certainly be back.
Manavalan Tony
I like the hot chocolate it's yummy and my quiche was eggy and yummy. The kale breakfast was very chewy and the salmon was fishy in a good way and there was no flies around. The pink lemonade was sour and yummy.
Dominique Breakey
Most wonderful outdoor setting with a relaxing view to start your day right, great service, friendly staff, delicious food and pet friendly 😍
Zanenkululeko Belot
What a delight

Stopped off for lunch here this afternoon, the waitron Patience was amazing, attention and well informed.
We tried their pressed juices (Eye Opener and Green Guru) as well as their Dutch Iced Coffee.
For mains had their Noodles Bowl, The Grazer and Chicken Chipotle. For dessert we had their chocolate cheesecake, milk tart as well as their lemon honey swirl, all of which were low carb (Banting Friendly).

Their food is prepared with ingredients obtained from small farmers and producers. They cater for host of dietary requirements including Diabetics, Gluten Free, Low Carb, Vegan etc
Sara Maria Eksteen
Its a lovely eatery but im rather shocked to see how vegetarian food gets charged more than the meat meals. Since when does vegetable meals cost more than meat meals???
Téa
Very nice atmosphere with a large balcony overlooking the street and river. Have been here a few times and the service hasn't always been great but it seems to be improving substantially as Jacksons becomes better established as does the food .Grocery section inside is amazing . Restaurant itself is just your place if you're big into healthy eating and a lovely , open setting .
Chef BSL
Lovely views from the balcony over Bryanston and the best coffee beans I’ve found in Johannesburg. Tashas got nothing on em.

Just a tip for free on the Reuben sandwich, the mouth feel and flavors aren’t correct, it needs a couple more slices of pastrami and half the amount of sauerkraut. I’d be more than happy to pay a couple extra bucks for a better thought out sandwich.

See you soon.

Brent.
Michele Tagliatti
Went here for lunch today. Great atmosphere in this vibey spot with a great view of Bryanston.
The hake that we had was great and tasty. Lots of veggies and spinach to go with it. Just our waiter could’ve checked up more on us
Michael Nurick
We stopped off for a healthy breakfast but left after a cup of coffee.
The only bread option is sourdough bread and there are no oats on the menu. There were also no meat options for breakfast besides for pork, well that it what our untrained waitress advised.
We left and had a healthy breakfast at nü next door in the gym.

We were expecting a lot more from Jacksons as we have been to the Bryanston branch several times where the bar had been set.
Kerry Garden
I was expecting an average place with average healthy food and drinks. I was blown away with the amazing food, drinks and service.

You can taste how fresh and natural the juices are and the food is so yummy.
Sabrina Kennedy
Love the fact that there is a grocery store attached and love that the food is all sustainable, free range and ethical. Not very many vegetarian options on the menu though but the food is always nice

Jackson’s Real food market the first of its franchises opened in Bryanston a while back and stocks a large variety of foods for almost any (special) dietary requirements while focusing on promoting local farming all the while long.

My first experience with Jackson’s was when I was in search of Kombucha to start my own cultures at home (as one does), after searching far and wide I have determined that the kombucha I was planning on making must have contained gold in its purest form how else would you be able to justify a R120 price tag on a 500ml bottle of probiotic cultures, Jackson’s delivers in that department by supplying a wide range of products at different prices and never loosing the quality of their products, however I must say just like any “Real food” market do expect the bread to be R140 rand a loaf.

Only irritating issue I had with them is when it comes to their loyalty system, I have registered for the Jackson’s Loyalty program 3 times out of the 3 times I have been there with the usual “welcome and here’s R30 to spend on our stuff” sms and each time I have been informed that my details aren’t captured and I cannot use the points on my card... a tad disappointing, it’s not about the R30 it’s the principle involved.

Honestly besides for the prices on some of their products and the loyalty points situation Jackson’s is a warm and inviting place with kind and welcoming staff and is there for anyone who is searching for good quality food but doesn’t mind spending a bit more.

Positives: Great quality food with a wide variety to choose from.

Negatives: Y’all need to get those loyalty cards sorted.

Jackson’s Real Food Market
4.5 Stars
Kylie Jade Botes
You will probably have to wait for a table, but that's fine because it gives you a chance to shop all their special organic / fresh goodies. Coffee is fantastic. Banting cheese cake is out of this world. And their healthy breakfasts make you feel better:)
LKKotze
What a breakfast... Had toast with scrambled eggs, bacon and avo... If they sell a plate with just scrambled eggs I would eat just that. Was excellent... The best I've ever had. They even had a choice of green teas for me. Great for a Saturday breakfast after the parkrun.
Paulo Gaspar
Had the Italian rustic sandwich, but found the portions small. That said, the taste was good and all ingredients fresh. The place as a restaurant feels quite disjointed as the tables are placed next to their deli/store section which also made us cold due to the fridges in the store. It was winter, maybe in summer it may go down better.
Carien Van Der Walt
Great place for those who enjoy healthy meals! The juices are spectacular and also really enjoyed the sweet potato chips fried in coconut oil. Great place for vegetarians as they have a wide selection of veggie meals on the menu.
Melissa Marengo
14/11/17
I’ve always loved Jackson’s, however the service today was shocking. Very few waiters and not able to take down an order correctly. We ordered sparkling waters with our meal and are still sitting with nothing. Cold cappuccino, despite asking for it to be very hot. I won’t lie...I won’t be coming back or recommending them soon

my previous happy review about them:
Love Jacksons for a healthy meal, I'm gluten free so most meals are considerate of that and I'm happy to find many meals that fit in with that. Great location and cannot wait for summer days for lunches and coffees outside
Valuescout
Food and service were to a high standard at lunch Saturday. However very expensive relative to other similar quality type offerings in the area.
Onalenna Seleke
Went for a bite to eat with a friend from out of town. Staff were super friendly. They have a great collection of cheesecakes! Which taste amazing!

Definitely will be returning for a second visit. 👌👌😬
Michelle McCarter
It's in a nice location, however I found the menu very overpriced and the food wasn't amazing. Their Banting cakes look great, yet for one slice you pay an arm and a leg and then the slice is not a large portion like in normal coffee shops/cafes. I won't rush back
Christopher Berg
New take on healthy eating, but also let you eat other than healthy, the waiter and the floor manager were extremely helpful and friendly, waiting for food... no such thing food came quick on ordering. Coffee was crisp and enjoyable. I had the lamb burger which had a earthy feel to eat being fresh and with a gentle seasoning, but I really enjoyed my wife's Italian toasted with the olive tapenade and sundried tomatoes, crisp flavor, well balanced. I really enjoyed eating here.
Lisa Botha Gibbon
We popped on here after the parkrun. I think it is going to become my new favourite place!! Great food (I had relaxed kale - massaged with tahini 😂😂) - lots of very delicious but healthy options. Great beer available, and I like that they favour wine estates that are biodynamic - makes me feel good about what I drink 😇. Service was great. And then, the beat of all - wandering through the shop to see all the interesting goodies on sale.
I can't wait to go back.

After seeing so much about it on social media I figured I had to head to Jackson's to try it out for myself.

The store/market area is a health/fitness fanatic's dream, with everything organic and healthy you would think of.

I went through on a busy Sunday morning for breakfast. Service was efficient. The coffee was good. My breakfast however was borderline average. I'm a huge fan of polenta so I ordered the breakfast option. It was sadly very bland, lacking any seasoning or flavour.

The scrambled eggs however were nicely done.

Overall, I wouldn't rush back for breakfast but I did enjoy browsing through the market so that's worth stopping by for.

Jed Ashton Mowat
The food and coffee are delicious. Just not delicious enough to compensate for the shockingly slow service, with the place half full and with many waiters in the store.
Tanya Morgan
Heavenly almond Milk hot chocolate, superb coffee, great breakfast and even better service. Fantastic for a quick Saturday morning breakfast.
Prasantha Bisetty
Today I got to have a little break and grab lunch while doing some grocery shopping. Have been here quite a few times but have never had the chance to sit down as it has always been packed! On my waiters recommendation I opted for the beef burger. It was delicious ! Also had a Vietnamese coffee ... yum yum !!
Nikita Ramdutt
Terrible service, our food was cold and toast was burnt. Really disappointed. Will definitely not be back! It's a pity because prices are quite high one would expect better food and service
Mariska
Had an amazing lunch at Jacksons. A vibey spot with a warm, cosy atmosphere. Our food was delicious and it was hard to pick between all the amazing drink
options. I especially loved the food market & walked away with a lot of healthy goodies. I will definitely be back soon :)
Jacques Leonard
Delicious burgers and fantastic freshly squeezed tomatoes (juice). Awesome chilled yet "vibey" establishment and great views of trees and of the river below. Staff can do more to manage impatiently waiting customers.
Sharen Makadooj
Nice view but food's disappointing. I ordered the gluten free pizza with extra mushrooms and olives. I had one slice and sent it back, which they still charged full price even though I clearly DID NOT enjoy it. It tasted like cheese on soggy cardboard. Fine, I paid but will not be going back to eat there. Have eaten there 4 times before, breakfast was runny scrambled eggs. Had to send it back. Sandwiches are ok but there's not much room for error there. Juices and coffee are decent.

Lovely restaurant and atmosphere.

Would've given a higher rating if staff didn't refuse to make us vegetarian chips not cooked in beef tallow.

Absolutely rubbish. They claim to be so health conscious and the pioneers in health dishes, I ordered a low carb pizza and get a gluten free pizza instead. Then the waiter insists that it is low carb and exactly what I ordered. After getting a second opinion from another waiter and after eating half the pizza, I'm told that I'm eating a gluten free base. Michael, tried to redeem the establishment for the error but unfortunately was just not enough. This kind of error is acceptable from an ordinary restaurant, but unfortunately not from an establishment who purport to know their nutrition. Pathetic.

A favorite spot for healthy brunch! The matcha green tea latte is divine, as is their coffee selection. The kale bowl with poached eggs and crispy bacon is my go to meal. The berry acacia bowl was slightly bland in taste but the green one did not disappoint. Be sure to go early enough to get a table or get a number while you wait to be seated and walk around their fantastic health shop.

The grocery part of this store is wonderful, lovely produce and fresh food. Lovely for those that are Banting or have specific dietary needs.

The restaurant however was a complete disappointment. The food is so overpriced and not worth it. I didn't enjoy the fact that the chips are cooked in beef oil, as it gave the chips a meaty taste and it's not practical for those that don't eat meat.

I'm glad I checked it out but I won't be back again

Right up the road from my house- perfect healthy go to spot. Food was delicious but the reason I am only giving 3.5 is because I was quite shocked at the price they charge for tea, R26!! For a tea bag and water? A bit ridiculous if you ask me! But my wrap was delish so at least that made up for it.

Very mixed reviews. I ordered a veggie wrap, which arrived with olive oil running off the plate, let alone the wrap. There were missing ingredients too, and in my grandmother's chicken wrap, there was no tatziki. I ordered a Vanilla sky smoothie instead, which as so much nut butter that you can't even taste the vanilla so just ask them for less nut butter.

The service was also exceptionally poor. My espresso was forgotten. The manager did not seem to know what was meant to be in either wraps, nor what tatziki is. However, my smoothie was complimentary and my wrap removed from the bill.

The deli itself is magnificent!! And my sister said that the little cakes were very good (she refused to share)! I love the healthy theme, organic, vegan, gluten free, sugar free etc!

A lot of potential but it needs a lot of work..

Great place to buy fresh organic ingredients and general grocery shopping. They even have hair products and lots other cool stuff. See the stemless wine glasses. The juices are great but some tiger things were a bit too healthy for me although I am sure they taste great and are beneficial. I love the roll they put on their burger - very different and almost croissant like. I ordered the sugar free hot chocolate and that was too bitter. The pizza base was very different and healthy. JHB needs this place. Provides alternatives for the healthy eating JHB community!

An awesome spot for breakfast with a great view. The food is well worth the price, with it always tasting as if every ingredient has just come from the farm. Ask for the juice menu specifically (items aren't listed on the main menu) and try the Gorgeous Green - love it! They also make some of the best burgers I've ever had!

If you are looking for good wholesome food prepared with top quake ingredients look no furher, Jacksons got you covered. I went for the Famous breakfast option and loved every bite. It was not just how they prepared the eggs, which was great, but the quality of the eggs itself was really something special and reminded me of farm fresh eggs staight out of italy. The sourdough bread was amazingly fresh and had great texture, we also had the chicken sandwhich wich I thoroughly enjoyed, with an interesting mayo to bind it all, the only slight letdown for me, was the apple, kale and cheese sandwich, the blue cheese and cheddar was a bit overwhelming and overpowered the apple and bacon. Oh and the cappuccino was really impressive. Well done Jacksons will be back soon

Excellent food, lively environment with great view. Good setting to spend a casual Sunday afternoon with family and friends.

Health food groceries also available

Absolutely love the food here, everything is fresh and flavoursome juice blends are outstanding, bulletcoffee so far the best I've had. But the service is lacking terribly.

I always do my Parkruns in Bryanston so after another good run, I decided to try Jacksons Real Food Market. I'm very impressed! It's a beautiful space and the vibe is great even at 9am 😁. I ordered my breakfast and it was ready and at my table very quickly. Presentation ✔️. Service ✔️. Be back soon

Edit: 2017.05.06

The chicken salad was super crunchy and fresh; amazing!

Had a detox juice - definitely hit the spot. The outside seating area is awesome, basking in sunlight while sipping on some cold drinks.. well you can't beat that ;) Taking the health store concept and finally turning it into a large store - obviously prices for most products are going to be ridiculous but if you know how to shop around you can grab some really unique produce from here.

Came to jacksons for the gluten free ice creams. We found this gem when jacksons was at their old spot across the street. The owners were actually setting up their stand outside the shop when we were walking to our car. It was 10am and thought we should try it since we've been on the hunt for gluten free goodies. It was one of the best gluten free food that I've had. We've been back a few times and there would always be someone by the ice cream stand outside the shop ready to serve customers like me. Since the move to the new area, we've lost that personal touch. The ice cream is hidden in the back, we had to ask waiters running to and from the tables to serve us & they seem to know less about the different flavours.

Really enjoyed the Summer salad. Delightful flavour combinations. Beef burger delicious and fresh. Found the potato fries a bit rich but others quite liked them. Service good too. Delicious meal and will be back (to shop too - amazing selection of everything).

If you want to come for brunch here and you haven't done the Bryanston Park Run beforehand, I seriously suggest getting here early - the place fills up! Lots of wholesome, healthy options that look/ sound simple but are just simply delicious. Lots of gluten free and Banting options so this place is friendly to those diets, although it would be nice to see some regular pasta options too. I'll definitely be back to try some lunch/ dinner options.

Really love the place especially the view and the breakfast food, though i had a wrong order of which i didn't mind eating but i totally lost my appetite when the short light skinned guy a manager i guess came to apologize for the food being wrongly made, his bad breath was unacceptable for a healthy place like Jackson's i did spoke about it with my family and they suggested that i shouldn't complain instead we asked our waiter to pack it for takeaway..! I like the place and wouldn't mind coming back for more amazing breakfast but hygiene is more important at a healthy place.

Jacksons has a great vibe with a lovely outside area though the view is of a traffic circle but you can overlook that easily. I had a Vietnamese iced coffee which was good but also a little overpriced for what you get. I got the famous breakfast which was sourdough toast with avo, bacon and scrambled egg. It was delicious and simple but way too pricey for the amount you get. I do feel like this place hikes their prices up due to their trendy environment and this makes it acceptable. If you have the cash to blow on a little amount of food that looks good and tastes good then this is your place.

Love this place ! so much choice and the food is organic and healthy . The origin coffee is delicious. We opted for The Lambert Top less burger and sweet potato fries and a veggie wrap... both were delicious and portions were so filling we couldn't even finish it. Great choice for breakfast or lunch.

Love Jacksons, hey if you are trying to get healthy this is the place to go to for your groceries and now they have a lovely restaurant!

We had breakfast wraps & health juices which were amazing! I can't wait to try their other meals

If busyness was the lead indicator, this review would have to be a 5. On a Thursday morning at 9:00AM, Jackson's was packed! After a pleasant wait for a table, I had a very good omelette and flat white (Origin Coffee is the best) and a decent juice. Service was prompt and crisp without being ever-present. Their coffee is a little expensive, but the rest was decent value. Their deli is also incredible.

So went to this restaurant for breakfast on Sundays with a group of friends. From the group the best was the coffee, then food the burger was great and the sandwich was good. Then is went down hill the remaining meals were not great. The famous breakfast was so small and highly disappointing, the quiche was very dry (comment mine is 10x better) and then the wrap was average. The waiter was non existent and when asked for the drinks took very long to be received. The worst thing we tasted was that of the Rehydrate drink which had no coconut water and was basically lemon water. When I asked the waiter if there is coconut water in this he said there is supposed to be. However when the group commented that there was definitely none he just said there is and left. Don't think I will be going to this disappointing restaurant anytime soon.

Had breakfast here for my sons birthday. It's such a lovely shop with so many health alternatives, some things a bit pricey, like coffee beans and teas, but always the case with these kind of shops. The restaurant is great but if it's a bit windy don't sit on the patio you will be blown away. The chairs inside are so comfortable. The chai tea is just devine. I had an omelette and my son had a kale poached egg breakfast both were so delicious. The omelette was really a good size both breakfast were worth it cause they were of a good size so you didn't feel like you were been ripped off. The service is fine neither good or bad. You must shop in the green grocer it's well priced and you can see the food is fresh.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat one evening. The selection of healthy food is incredibly vast and the prices are reasonable, which is a quite rare for such a restaurant. The food however was quite average. I had the lamb burger which tasted solely of lamb fat. The beef burger was tastier, but nothing special. Would love to try a healthy juice and a healthy cocktail sometime soon!

I had the most delicious breakfast here after a Park Run. I was even convinced that your home made soda bread is safe for "so-called" gluten intolerant people. I hope you were not poking fun at us, the struggle is real. ☹️ I will be back for dinner, I love your fresh and healthy menu. I am so gatvol of the same old food everyone else in Joburg serves.

It seems a common issue these days, new trendy places pop up - some supposedly bigger and better - with new & adventurous menus, but then they completely loose the plot when it comes to customer service. After waiting for more than 45 minutes - and on top of that we got served the wrong food - we decided to walk out and have breakfast across the road... Even though the food could be above average, lack of customer service kills everything...

The Jacksons store is my favorite place to buy my organic groceries, kombucha, wagu and banting friendly products; so it made sense to try out their restaurant menu.
The fresh juices as you can see here are amazing, the Rehydrate is my favorite. They also have a wide range of craft beers and they serve Truth coffee which is one of the best in SA.
I had the most stunning chicken noodle salad and my hubby had this pork hamburger which he said was delicious. The chips that came with the burger tasted a little strange but overall great lunch and I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!
Love Jacksons and the other shops in the centre. HATE THE PARKING - parking bays are so tiny and when the restaurants are busy you battle to park. If there is parking available it is upstairs where you can be charged R30 after about an hour or hour and a half. Wish they would do something about this as the centre is really great and Jacksons has amazing produce

Service is really bad. Breakfast was very disappointing and that was surprising considering that it is not really difficult to get breakfast right. Staff need to be more responsive. Needless to say we won't be back.

I recently went to celebrate a friend’s birthday at Jackson’s Real Food Market in Bryanston. They pride themselves on their food being real and healthy; offering low carb, low sugar, vegan and Banting options – something for the more health conscious. Luckily for me… bacon was still an option ;-)
