Had the best Sunday evening here a few weeks ago! I love the new renovations, the place looks amazing. The decor is so sexy & understated. Gives a perfect ambience & makes you feel like you’re in a Hollywood film 😅. The staff were super friendly & helpful. A far cry from my very first time here when the waiters were rude & seemed overwhelmed. The food was PERFECT! I had the mussel starter, which was such a big portion that I didn’t finish my mains. For mains I had the pork belly which was even more wonderful a day later after I’d warmed it up for lunch. My only criticism is that the food is super rich & the portions are big, so leave your diet at the door please! I’m super glad that they separated the people who want a loud vibe from people who want a nice relaxed meal. You can still hear the music from outside but it’s not too bad. I want to go back & try the rest of the menu, this will be my go-to place moving forward!

I went there and it was my birthday, I had a cake. Immediately the waitress took it and put it in the fridge for me. We ordered our food and drinks and it all came out fresh and delicious. Our waitress went the extra mile and took pictures of me with my cake when we were done dinning. The food alone deserves praise but the extra mile service needs a mention too :)

If you're looking for the best pasta, this is where it's at. I tried the burger this time, which was decent. If you're coming here for dinner, expect the place to be really noisy.

I had a lovely experience here! The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is lively. The food is amazing and I'm not even kidding when I say that ALL the dishes we ordered were delicious. I would 100% come here again and highly recommend eating here.

Elegant, fancy, good food, lovely vibe a bit noisey though at times it feels like your in a pub.

Great dinner had here, with great service in a really busy restaurant. The atmosphere is amazing too. The food though was really good, really vibrant flavours in each dish. Enjoyable experience.

We were going to try out Pantry, only to be told “it now operates upstairs” with a totally different name. However, the guys upstairs didn’t disappoint. Good food & good service. Will definitely go back👍🏾

This is one different unique restaurant with a combination of Italian and African cuisine,the new revamp offers a fine dining experience that's worth it. May I suggest the new dish Lamb Knuckles served with mash and creamed spinach

This place is divided into 2 sperate spaces, the one space is calm and relaxed, the other space is vibey, crowded and groovy. I would give them 5 star, their food is devine. But you can literally taste the gas they use on the steak and springbock. They are a bit pricy as well. But if you have a deep pocket, I'd definitely recommend this place. Love it.

I don't know if this is relevant, but coming from USA we intentionally set out to support Black owned businesses globally. This place was a vibe! From the decor to the food and service, I have zero complaints. If you are struggling to find a place struggle no more. Make a reservation, get dressed, and enjoy

The service is top tier you don’t wait for one person to attend to you, literally anyone makes sure that you are served. Food doesn’t even take long… my main arrived while I was still half way my starter. The food was so tasty and worth every cent. If you want excellent tasting food go to Gemelli!

I wish i can dine there every weekend. Their chef is very talented i must say. Can never fault anything there. We wenr there 2 consecutive nights.

Amazing food, great service, lively atmosphere

First, we weren't allowed inside of Gemelli's main restaurant because my husband had on shorts. So, we were redirected to Phirinyane bar, which is located next door and is a part of Gemelli's. We were also told the menu would be the same. So, the Phirinyane bar: The food was pretty good. We had the Gorgonzola Gnocchi and Oxtail Gnocchi. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The venue itself is fairly small with tables very close together. It was busy and extremely loud, making it difficult to have a conversation and there was smoking and vaping with no separation. Overall, it was an ok experience, but the food and drinks were a bit pricey and I did not like all the second hand smoke.

What a disappointing lunch. I have travelled from Sydney Australia to visit my wife's family and we booked a family lunch at Gemellis to celebrate us visiting but also I wanted to dine here as I've heard amazing reviews. The restaurant decor and the ambience is fantastic and the food wonderful but unfortunately I couldn't eat my main or my salad because I asked our waiter if there was any pumpkin seeds and he assured me there was none in not only my food but my families... then our sides come out and the side salad is lathered with pumpkin seeds.. I'm not just allergic but have an anaphylaxis reaction to them so this was the tipping point as our waiter took forever to get drinks and we had to ask another waiter for our bread for the starters that had almost finished... our waiter told us they come with bread. This was on top of our waiter bringing us the wrong wine, forgetting my sons soft drink and him forgetting my sister in laws main. We also saw head chef and co partner, Paulo Santo coming out and overlooking the restaurant... I thought perhaps the manager would inform him of our issues today but I don't think he has. Absolutely the worst experience at a restaurant and to have it on such a special occasion is just awful.

The food was fantastic! Had a vegetarian pasta and it was honestly delicious and full flavors, also a really good portion size! The cocktails were amazing as well and to top it off the service from our waiter was incredible. So friendly, helpful and on the ball the whole night! I consider myself a foodie and decided to check out this place. I feel I know Italian food reasonably well, but this didn't feel like your run of the mill, garden variety Italian joint. It's a high quality, well run establishment, with courteous and attentive staff, lovely atmosphere and great food. I took a chance with my meal and while I wouldn't normally choose it, I was pleasantly surprised. Just know, this is not a cheap place, but if you have a treat every now and then, consider Gemelli.

5 pieces of ravioli at R190 just didn't cut it! As delicious as it was, it simply was not filling! I had to ask the waitress for bread, which she brought, no butter no nothing... I had to ask for that after I could eventually make eye contact with her for attention. I was forced to order desert just so I could be satisfied with my meal.. mxim

Very average then again perhaps I've just got high standards and a very keen palate. What's worse than over cooked pasta? That's right, I was served up some crunchy style pasta. Elementary mistake. The waiter seemed intoxicated and just want listening at all, he was clumsy and spilled my drink on the table. Cocktails are unbalanced and need some work. I had the lamb ragu pasta, you could count the tiny shreds of lamb on the plate, overall the flavour was severely underwhelming and the lamb tasted a bit too meaty/couchy. After complaining about the hard pasta, the waiter had a fresh dish made for me which took really long such that my guest's food got cold whilst waiting. The manager never engaged with me on the matter - very poor management. Overall a very disappointing experience, I find Gemelli overpriced for what they're serving up and sadly I will not be returning in a hurry.

Loved it. It stood up to all the expectations. The staff were great. Service was stunning. Food was a must have. From the calamari to the pasta to the pork belly oh and choc brownie.

Gemelli is awesomeness on steroids.. You are never disappointed with anything.. The service, food, drinks and ambiance are all wonderful.. But the Food.... So so yum!!! Definitely one of my top 5 restaurants in jozi.. Really good..

Hosted my birthday dinner there on Saturday. Lovely place. Great ambiance, Waiters were great & attentive. Some of the good was quite good & others not so much. But a beautiful place to be & be ready to spend money �

Jburg food scene revival? - start here you won’t be disappointed!!! Excellent attention to detail, owner is hands on and amazing, backed by a great team and of course food is delicious, beautiful and generous. Italian hits next level.

I couldn't fault a single thing from our experience last night! Starters: fresh, beautifully presented and not to mention presented to us in minutes! Mains.. meat done exactly as I'd ask and dessert oh my.. smooth prefect creme brûlée! Service.. Ayanda and Spike on the ball! We had an issue with our second round of our whiskey sours and without a slight hesitation Ayanda had taken it back and bought a second one that was prefect! Only thing we didn't like was the numbers engraved on the tables but hell.. � thats just been silly after the amazing experience! You guys aren't cheap but for a nice treat out to celebrate and appreciate excellent food passion it's worth the swipe on the credit card! Well done and Good luck

The service is excellent and the atmosphere has a great vibe. However, at those prices, you'd expect to be blown away by the food but to our disappointment it was just above average. I'd recommend it to try though.

What a nice restaurant, i like the vibe and the waiters are friendly. I like the fact that it caters for formal dinners and casual just to chil and drink. Its family oriented restaurant with class. The food is superb 👌🏽 Tasty. Well done to the management🙌🏻. Its clean as well

If I could rate this restaurant zero stars I would!!! The most shocking customer service I have ever received! I booked for Valentine’s Day, then called to attempt to amend the reservation and was told it was ok. 3 minutes later I was called to get told you have no reservation. The manager, Herbert, was so rude to the point that he was shouting at me and just stopped talking to me. No suggested solutions were provided and I was told that I was lying! <br/>This is absolutely atrocious for a business in customer service industry!!! <br/>I will never go back and I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone ever again! <br/>Do not go it’s not worth it!!

Gemelli seems popular with the young upcoming crowd. I read all Zomato reviews of this restaurant and decided to visit it based on the good reviews. We had the Salmon Fish cakes for starters which was really below average. Seeing that the Shellfish Linguine were highly rated I had that and was quite disappointed as the tomato sauce is overpowering the fish completely. My husband had the Lamb Ragu which was very tasty. We had the cheesecake for dessert and it was really good. Waiters are very attentive and our waiter, Wanke, was really very good.<br/>The decor is modern and really stunning. Lastly, when the bill came we got charged R200 corkage for one bottle of wine which left us feeling ripped off big time. I really don't understand why this restaurant get so many 5 star ratings. It must be the decor and vibe (if you are young and upcoming), but to me it is not acceptable to charge such high prices for average food. I really think I could have made better Salmon fish cakes and seafood pasta at home.

Gemelli is one of my favorite restaurants in JHB. I can safely say their pasta is the best I’ve had so far. They have a nice food and drinks menu. I thoroughly enjoyed their cocktails also. It gets really full though so definitely do make a reservation before making your way there.

This review is about alternate Gemelli venue called Pantry. It was a really awesome experience and I loved absolutely everything about it. The price point is also not that bad, I found the food to be great and good value for money. Will definitely be hitting another brunch there soon.

Service: Stopped by Pantry for brunch after hearing positive things about it. The waitress was friendly, and was excellent in the way she gave space but also came to check up on me.<br/><br/>Ambience: This is such a simple,yet beautiful place. The music they play as well, matches the decor. It's a beautiful addition to am already beautiful place.

Always love the food here! Had a starter, main and dessert. <br/>Caprese salad was one of the best I’ve had, lamb ragu pasta is still my favorite pasta dish in jhb. The dessert though was a bit of a let down, looked great but it was dry! Overall though great experience

We went to Gemelli today for a light lunch...had the Caprese salad...<br/>What a disappointment...if we had 4 pieces of cheese it was a lot...besides cherry tomatoes were so soggy...and the basil pesto did not exist.<br/>For R140...that was an absolute RIP off.<br/>So we left to have a main course else where....<br/>Jenine😏

We enjoyed our overall experience here, especially the service and the fantastic starters (oxtail spring rolls and salmon arancini). They didn't have the wine or main course we wanted in stock anymore which was a little frustrating. The seafood linguini I ended up having was a little "meh" - lacking in seasoning.

A wonderful evening. THE BEST SEAFOOD PASTA I have ever eaten in my life. Other highlights were the Cheesecake and the cappuccino. The starters were all good.<br/><br/>Yes it is a lively restaurant, but I enjoyed the ambience.<br/><br/>Lovely decor and great service.

Been there twice now and both times the food were soooo salty! I could never finish the food because of how salty it was. Besides that, the desserts were absolutely delicious. And the vibe was great. The restaurant is always packed - great places to hang out with family and friends.

First time coming to Gemelli I ordered this awesome meal, chef recommended “medium rare” so I went with it. I enjoyed every mouthful, tender and juicy fillet, fresh rocket, creamy mushrooms and cheese. Beautiful combination

This is one of my favorite go to spots in JHB. First of all the service is amazing - friendly and attentive staff. i have been to Gemelli several times but had taken my mother there for the 1st time who remarked on how perfect the pork belly was. Penne Alessandro is top 5 best pastas i’ve ever had. Great spot for anytime of the day. the cocktails are great too! too recommendation: Lesotho Lady

Lovely spot I had heard lots about and finally got the Gabe to try for myself. Service was good, food equally as good. I had the pork belly while my friends had the steak and another the seafood pasta which I will surely try next time.

Went for dinner last night (21 March) to celebrate our 11 year wedding anniversary. The place was packed and noisy. Not for everyone, but that’s Gemelli on a public holiday. In short, the pasta dishes (lamb ragu and penne Alessandro) were delicious, dessert a highlight, and service on point. Highly recommended!

Stunning restaurant. I went there for a work function and we hand an absolute great time. I order the seafood and it came with a garden salad and I ordered a cheesecake for dessert. It was such a difficult decision because everything on the dessert menu sounded so yummy. <br/><br/>I would recommend this place to working class people who want good quality food. It is not the most affordable place but I think that has to do with the persona and vibe they’ve established.

The atmosphere and food was really great! I had my birthday dinner party here recently and although there were a few hiccups with the bookings the staff were very friendly. Definitely worth a visit

I have never enjoyed my experience at Gemelli. It is very loud and I always leave with no voice from shouting over the ambient noise in the room. The service is very good, however the tables are placed very close together and I often get knocked by waiters passing by. <br/><br/>The food is supposed to be Italian, but the recipes are over complicated and full of garlic, it always causes stomach aches in me and my husband and we wake up smelling of garlic the next day. Not to mention how over-priced the food is. <br/><br/>Our last visit was our third chance, and three strikes in my opinion. Will not be back.

Had my birthday dinner here on a Tuesday evening.. The place was packed for a Tuesday! The food was good, all round. The only downside was the noise that really took away from the enjoyment. The winner of the night had to be the strawberry sorbet and the creamy prawn pasta!

Gemelli’s reputation precedes itself. Been here on previous occasions - and the overall experience was nothing short of fantabulous. Today not so much . <br/>Food was good - not fantabulous as on previous occasions. Had the mussles, pear and Gorgonzola salad and pork spring rolls for starters. Disappointing that the chef ‘wasn’t happy with the bread today’ - so no bread to mop up the mussel juices 🤨; after being told that the delay was because the bread was in the oven. <br/>Mains included lasagne, prawn and chorizo pasta and lamb ragu . Not bad - but had better on previous visits. Lacked seasoning and the usual TLC from the kitchen that usually accompanies the dishes. <br/>Pudding was tiramisu , cheesecake and creme brûlée. <br/>It was my daughter’s birthday - no pomp and flair from the waiters as per previous visits. Quite disappointing as she turned 12 and was looking forward to being fussed over. Only 2 waiters delivered a lack-lustre version of ‘happy birthday’ - underwhelming and disappointing to a 12year old who was so looking forward to her meal at Gemmelli. <br/>The restaurant was fairly empty - and seems like the wait staff jumped at the opportunity to indulge in sub-standard (and so unlike) hosting. Quite a disappointment , considering that previous visits were nothing short of amaze balls. <br/>It wasn’t terrible, but it did lack a lot of oomph this time. Will definitely think twice before I return for personal or business reasons. <br/><br/>

So I decided to treat my best friend for her birthday - and GEMELLI was just that A Treat. The Paella converted my bestie from a non seafood eater to a seafood lover. The cocktails were original and refreshing. The portions are decent. The service is A level. A pricey though but worth it.

My boyfriend has the seafood linguine and I had the prawn risotto, both dishes lacked seasoning overall but the restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and our waiter was attentive.

Gemelli Cucina upped the Italian restaurnat game when they opened. <br/><br/>Their pastas are delicious and freshly made. Their wine list hasn't disappointed us yet. The ambience is alwyas pleasant and relaxing!<br/><br/>There could be more vegetarian options though, I usually end up eating the same few things every time I'm there. Their menu is due for a refresh though, it would be a good way to keep the patrons coming back for something different,

I really loved the place and the decor of the restaurant. As a vegetarian i didn't find much options as i went on a car launch and the menu was already fixed. Its Italian restaurant and people love the same. Thanks

We took our own bottle of our favourite sparkling wine and they wanted to charge us R400 corkage! In addition to that, communication between the waiter and the maitre d' /manager and us was appalling. The waiter had not bathed / had not washed his shirt and the smell of body odour immediately distorted the thought of dining. We will not be returning.

I went to Gemelli for a lunch, the ambiance, food, service was the best I've had in a while. Tumi, Sebastian and Herman were all wonderful. The Alessandro starter, fish and prawn main and the cheesecake dessert were all top notch. I would recommend it any day.

Extremely disappointing.  Came here especially as we wanted a full on Italian meal with flavours and gutsy aromas, reasonable service and atmosphere.  This is a loud noisy place - not romantic although it is tagged as such. It was like being in a shabeen that served food - okay maybe it's the time of year for office parties and loud excited groups packed at tables too close to each other .Tables are laminated wood, surfaces are hard and noisy, we too ended up having to shout to each other over our table booked in advance and right up against the bar. Our napkins were paper, although other tables had cloth. We asked for proper napkins and finally got them. Food was substandard. We ordered the deep fried artichoke, which in Rome is a whole artichoke dipped in oil. Here it was 3 portions of tinned artichoke hearts covered in egg batter and breadcrumbs and deep fried - artichoke Mcnuggets which were heavy, no artichoke flavour and not the way I know the dish. The main course of lamb ragout and pasta had no flavour of lamb, and seemed to be shredded lamb in an overwhelming tomato and olive sauce. I'm not even sure the pasta was homemade despite being assured it was. My husband had the lamb rump which was flavoursome but very fatty - about 35% of the meat was actually fat. It all looks good but quality is not there. Service was friendly, but the place was way too busy, rushed for the waiters to cope with any semblance of order.  Having heard of Gemelli's reputation for excellent food, my honest opinion is that it's way over rated. Loud, noisy, vibey, good looking plates with very little genuine content. Go there for loud noisy vibes and Italian flavoured blotting paper if you want.

I know this time of the year, restaurants are busy and I heard some good things about Gemelli. Decided to make a large booking for today. We opted for a set menu which consist of appetizers, pasta dishes, main course and desserts. We played the waiting game.... the appetizers took forever and people were hungry. They decided to bring platters instead of individual servings, but not everyone had from the various appetizers. I made them aware of it, but nothing was done about it. Pasta was ok. My main course, fillet on top of garlic purée was ok. I asked for medium rare, it was medium. I told them to put my dessert in a takeaway box because I wanted to leave earlier. They eventually brought it in a plate!! I was told the kitchen was spinning! I didn’t ask the kitchen to put my dessert in a box?!? Not good for a first time experience at the restaurant....

This restaurant amazed me with their excellent service. Service that was instant. Hard to find a restaurant with such quick service. Faster than fast food but with much much better quality. Their food hits the spot. Pricey but worth the try.

I'm not a fan of pasta anymore but I go to Gemelli to ignite a love for it. An all round winner of a restaurant. I wish they can get a bigger place though with a view.

It was a Sunday afternoon when I decided to try out this really popular place. I’ve heard raving reviews about their food and gin cocktails that I just haaad to try it out. <br/><br/>I had not booked a table prior but the lovely hostess managed to place me at corner table with an amazing breeze of air. I then started off with the Elderflower Tonic which I must say was absolutely amazing.<br/>I proceeded to order food and went for a chicken poster with prawn tails which for me was good but was short of that something extra...<br/>I decided to down that meal with a bottle of MCC which I must say went really well with their trimasu trifle. Okay, so I need a whooole section about that dessert. My goodness it was the most perfectly balanced dessert I’ve ever tasted in my life. Wow. What an amazing end to my meal. <br/><br/>So to conclude:<br/>the service was top 2 and not 2!! <br/>The food was good! <br/>The drinks were amazing! <br/>And the dessert was superb!!!

This is my favourite restaurant in Jhb. The food, drinks and vibe are perfect. The staff is friendly! The place has such a great ambience and honestly, it sells itself 🎈

Oh wow. How I love good hearty italian food feast, meaning I LOVE Gemelli Cucina Bar. <br/><br/>The ambience is sleek, sophisticated but with old-school charm and I love the big bright yellow lights. <br/> <br/>Every time I tell myself to not eat pasta and fortunately I fail every time because it’s just that good. If you like chilli order away, but if your not into a good level of hotness I’d recommend asking for your chilli on the side. Other than that, Gemelli has never disappointed me with the variety and the quality. <br/><br/>Extremely keen to head back for some of those good-looking dessert. <br/><br/>Make your way there and you won’t be disappointed.

Lunch today and had the special Spaghetti Vongole, not the best the tomato sauce was very tart and had very little seasoning had to add Chile and garlic to help the taste, been here many times and will stick to the amazing dishes on the menu.

The food here is spectacular - the family portion option being particularly wholesome. That being said, it seems like maybe there have been either too many people cramped into the space or bad acoustics in the design - it's very loud. We went at lunch time on a Sunday, and had a pleasant time, but couldn't really talk to everyone at our own table. Service was excellent!

3 words...WORTH THE HYPE! I wanted to wait until I had been to the restaurant atleast 3 times to ensure that I wasn’t just falling into the hype of how great The restaurant is, the honeymoon risotto is worth raving over , the steak was delicious , the lasagna was delicious . They have this starter that has sausages mixed with calamari which is a combination I never thought could ever work but the flavours are so complex and rich. I can’t even recommend a specific meal because no matter what your taste is , you will find something that you like at that restaurant. It is a bit on the pricey side but honestly it is worth it, you will not walk out with any regrets. Make sure you try one of the cocktails as they’re super tasty !

This is a cool spot. It’s kinda the place to see the who’s who of Joburg. The ‘artsy/influencer’ types. Whatever the crowd, I have to say that the food is yum. My goodness! I am NOT a pasta person at all, so landing up at an Italian restaurant, I was prepared to not have a meal; perhaps just a light plate. But my friend convinced me it was worth trying and I am so glad she did. I had the Ragu di Bologna and my, my, my! Guys. I can still taste all that goodness in my mouth. Flavourful and just the right amount of each ingredient in the dish. My friend had a beef fillet and was raving about it endlessly. So their non-traditional Italian dishes are also worth trying. <br/><br/>Their cocktails are also lovely! Check out the wide selection. Their signature, the Elderflower Tonic is bae. No lies. It is definitely worth trying, especially if you’re a gin head, which I totally & shamelessly am🙈<br/><br/>Thankfully, we went there on the Saturday of the Durban July and so it wasn’t packed at all, or at least not as packed as we’ve been told it gets on a Saturday. I don’t particularly like those kinds of set ups. I like a chilled and non-jam packed environment. So if you’re like me, perhaps aim for Saturday or Sunday pm or evening of the latter. <br/><br/>The service is great. Warm and respectful. The gentlemen at the bar (we moved from the restaurant to the bar later as the day transitioned to evening) are also so very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to ensure your drinks are to your liking. Definitely pay this place a visit. You’ll be impressed. Ooh & the decor is also beautiful. Classy yet inviting and warm!

We had an appointment for 8 having our monthly meeting with my business partners. Everything about the service was amazing. I had the Pollo Gemelli and it was amazing i wish i had seconds. Definitely a great place, great vibe and great food 😊

Wow, Gemelli is nothing less than outstanding. The restaurant is busy and noisy, which is what we like. Our food was so flavorful and our waiter was the best waiter I have ever had. They gave all the women complimentary sparkling wine, for women’s day, which I thought was a wonderful gesture.

We were invited to dinner at Gemelli’s by friends - what an amazing experience ! The food was well prepared - they have a very interesting menu choice - the wines are excellent - deserts were amazing and the service was excellent. Gemelli’s was all about flavor taste aroma and enjoyment - a wonderful evening - we were made to feel very special by the staff - thank you ! <br/>

Went there 21July and the food and service was excellent. I'm giving a rating of 4, however, because of the crowded and quite noisy atmosphere. The venue was quite packed and for some reason also loitering and loud rap music outside?🤷‍♀️

Good but not great. Food wasn’t as good as the price would have you believe. Food was good, but there were just a few things wrong with it. Restaurant is nice, very busy. Service is good.

The night life is great ambience was amazing , the food was even better, wow , definitely going back and bringing my friends , if fully recommend it if you in Sandton

Good company & good food is almost always a winner for most people. When you combine that with a place as lovely as Gemelli and you have a perfect combination. Gemelli is a wonderful trendy Italian restaurant thay prides itself on good food in a beautiful ambient setting.<br/><br/>We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with some friends - I had the penne allesandro which was delicious. The others had the arabiata, pork belly (which unfortunately lacked the crisp crackling) and the line fish of the day which was kingclip served with baby potatoes & grilled prawns.<br/><br/>Pity I was so full I didn't have room for dessert but my friends shared the warm chocolate brownie which judging from their reactions was delicious.<br/>

Gemelli was honestly a wonder. The food was amazing. There was a great, warm vibe. My friend had the paella and I had the Gemelli chicken. <br/><br/>I had a bit of a problem with service. We were seated by the host and it took a bit of time before we could order our wine. We constantly had to try and get the attention of a waiter as we were not assigned our own. One waiter “took us in” in the end (lol) but besides all of that, it was a good experience.

Gemelli is a trendy upmarket restaurant in the northern suburbs. The atmosphere was slightly too loud and crowded for my liking, as I prefer slightler quieter restaurants especially when paying the prices of Gemelli. Nevertheless the food was great - the two standout dishes were the steak and the chocolate ganache-y dessert which was incredible.

Birthday dinner in the private booth. Very warm and intimate. Service was AMAZING, food was great!! And the ambiance was too much! <br/><br/>Would recommend it to anybody looking for a good dinner!

I had the lamb main dish. It was so yummy. The lamb was soft and cooked perfectly. The mushroom risotto that came with it was also delicious. I was very happy and pleased with the service.

Brilliant. From the atmosphere, to service, to food...seamless and beautiful. Our waiter, Funny, was really patient with my parents (who are quite fussy eaters!). The food was exceptionally flavored, eye catching and well portioned. I am currently sitting on the couch, full bellied, still smacking my lips from that linguine pasta

Food was incredible, service was a little slow but it seems to be very abuzz on a Friday night and the food is really worth the wait. A definite must if looking for good food and that “Jbg” vibe.

Food and service are excellent but, the ambient noise level was a detraction from the atmosphere of this restaurant. I’m not sure if there was no background music to dull down the chatter (I couldn’t hear if there was any playing), or if it’s just a bad acoustic environment, but I couldn’t hear my dinning partner across the table or our waiter, while I could clearly hear all the high pitched talking and clinking of cutlery.<br/><br/>TLDR: Food good, but too noisy

The service and food is impeccable but please please please take it off “romantic dining” because its far from romantic. Its LOUD. Great for a birthday celebration with friends or after work meal with colleagues. Nothing romantic about it though. The noise!

Dishonest billing system !<br/>Gemelli add a 12% gratuity to all their bills<br/>This is hidden in the middle of the bill as they then put all the items on your bill into alphabetical order. The bill then also comes with a tip option and the waiters do not tell you about the gratuity already added.<br/>I went to Gemelli last night ( two weeks after above review) and was impressed to see that Gemelli have dealt with the above billing issue . The 12% gratuity is still included and placed in the middle of the alphabetically presented bill , but is now highlighted and our waiter brought it to our attention.

Now this is a restaurant that represents South Africa at its best. The vibe is amazing with brilliant service to match. They are super busy so make sure to book. The pork spring rolls are brilliant. But the piece de resistance is the pork belly. It has a hefty price tag but do not be distracted by it. It is the best meal I’ve had in years. Worth every cent and then some. By far the best at the table on both occasions. Then desert - the creme brûlée is seriously orange which in my world is avoid but the chocolate dessert and cheese cake is to die for. <br/><br/>However - the pork - still the best thing ever!!!!

Italian cuisine has got to be one of my favorites. After visiting Gemelli a couple of weeks ago I had tried the pumpkin and butternut risotto, which was really good.The service wasn’t all that great though but the lovely risotto compensated for that, I would definitely visit again!

Had the breakfast and it wasn’t so tasty. The flapjacks felt like they were made yesterday and the portion was quite small for the price .... I tried the eggs, spinach, mushroom breakfast and it also tasted rather odd. Also I’m still hungry. I am keen to try the lunch menu instead.

I had the pork belly, which was an interesting and most definitely delicious fusion of flavours. The Tirimisu was an interesting twist on a conventional Tirimisu and it was pleasant. The vibe was most definitely buzzing and surprisingly busy for mid-week. Service when we could make contact was great.

I give it a 3 just for the good service, it has a nice setup and it's not too rowdy but in terms of food I felt all the dishes had no flavour. We were a birthday table of 16 so we shared our meals and I wasn't impressed with any, it was all so bland and plain.

Was really excited to go to Gemelli as a I had heard wonderful things about it from family and friends. <br/>They were all right. I was impressed. The service was excellent. I was well attended to and the waiters really know a lot about their menu and were willing to assist me. <br/><br/>The food was cooked to perfection. It didn’t take too long which is always a bonus. The cocktail I had was well balanced. <br/><br/>It was really just a good experience. Will definitely be going back!

Poor service and communication. We waited over 45 minutes for dessert 😐 which was very disappointing after all the hype about the place. We didn’t end up trying the dessert as it came too late(we were not charged for it after requesting to cancel). Staff were apologetic but it was only when we were ready to leave. Overall I would say the place is over rated and there was nothing wow about it. Waited a long time to try it out only to be disappointed.

Been there for lunch on a Friday. Atmosphere is great. Had to swop chairs for the more comfortable leather chairs. Looks awesome and very clean bathroom.<br/>Service very good. Had the tuna tartare for starter which was great but the highlight was the Lamb Rump. Awesome dish. Will Bel my back fir dinner.

This has become my new favorite Sunday spot, went for a late lunch with my fiancé, everything from arrival was 10/10, this restaurant has very well trained waiters and staff, our waiter was very good at helping us decide what we were gonna eat, we recommended the Penne Alessandro, and wow!! What an amazing dish to end off the weekend! We will definitely be coming back!

I would actually give them a 4.5 rating. We had a birthday dinner here recently and I was so pleased to finally get a booking! (I always try to get a spot last-minute) The service was excellent and they frequently checked if we were happy. We ordered the risotto and gnocchi which we then split - both amazing! I didn't order dessert, but tried some of the others and it was okay in my opinion (with the brownie being the best). My only complaint would be how stuffy the restaurant gets because everyone gets so crammed in. But will definitely be back!

I love restaurants that do not try to complicate Italian dishes by using too many fancy ingredients- and Gemelli Cucina Bar did just that. I went there for my birthday celebration and the service and food was great. I had the gnocchi dish and it was jam packed with flavour! The only disappointing part was the noise- the restaurant is divided into small 'rooms' and it makes it hard to hear each other in the stuffy, full space. Specially as we were in a section where the other table had about 20 rowdy people. Also, the chocolate cake was amazing but the cheesecake quite bland and underwhelming.

Great to see a *quality* successful restaurant in Jhb's more northern suburbs. The place gets packed but not in an overly deafening or overcrowded way.<br/>An excellent well thought out menu staying true to an Italian theme. The food was of great quality and exceeded my expectations. I wasn't drinking but the rest of the table seemed happy with the wine selection.<br/>And importantly, the desserts were fantastic! Well done.

Our dinner at Gemelli was very disappointing. The service was very slow although the staff very friendly. We ordered the mushroom Risotto balls to start. Unfortunately the were served frozen on the inside. We had the Seafood pasta as a main which served with cold mussels. A very below par performance and definitely won’t be going back.

We were greeted with the utmost professionalism and that set the tone for the lunch. The menu has so many delicious sounding dishes it leaves you spoilt for choice. We both had pasta which arrived at lightning speed and was equally delicious. The service is superb and the ambience fitting for an enjoyable lunch. For desert I chose the Cioccolato and the fact that I was salivating before we actually ate it gives you an idea just how decadent it was. Top notch restaurant with unsurpassable service standards

This is easily my favorite restaurant in Johannesburg. The service is always amazing and the food NEVER disappoints me. <br/><br/>You can take anyone there - there’s a covey bar outside (with a great selection on music) and inside you can have great conversation. From a date to a work meeting or fancy dinner with friends. THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. The owner is there often and always interacts with you. <br/><br/>I will also say that for the quality of the food there is prices are fairly good. <br/><br/>I’m an avid fan on pasta and that’s what I usually get. I’ve had all of their pastas & they have all been amazing!

I like the look of the venue, the food was delicious and the service was good. However, the portions are tiny and the venue is sightly cramped and incredibly noisy, it's impossible to have a conversation in there.

After months of hype from my friends, i finally tried Gemelli out. Came in with high expectations and was slightly disappointed. Meals are quite expensive so was also expecting Masterchef style.<br/><br/>The restaurant is always busy so it is best to make a reservation if you coming with a group. Due to the noise and space it is not ideal for a quiet romantic night (Opinion of other people i had spoken to and i agree).<br/><br/>On the food: I tasted a few meals that were ordered and they were fine. However, my medium steak was dry and tough. Dessert was great though (Redemption 👌)

The ambiance is amazing! The service is great as well.<br/>But the food wasn’t that great, I had a pasta which was under cooked, my mom and sister in law had a filet which looked boiled then grilled and they both didn’t enjoy it. I was a bit disappointed with the food since it’s priced like other major restaurants but the food didn’t live up to it’s pricing.

Really enjoyed this trendy spot. Inside is a buzz with conversation and outside a vibey bar. Such a unique setup- the steaks and polo Gemelli did not disappoint. Service was great. The tiramisu trifle is a must try. Sorry was to excited to take a pic of it.

We’ve been here twice now and really enjoyed our experiences. On the last outing I had the lamb while The Husband had the melanzane parmigiano. I thoroughly enjoyed my lamb so much so that I finished my meal before him (a first for us). Service is excellent and the ambience is great, perfect for date night.

My experience at Gemelli was average. As most Joburg restaurants service needs to be improved. Firstly my booking was incorrect, I had originally booked for 10 people but we increase to 15. I did call and let them know about the extra people, but obviously we get there and they've only set up for 10. Now as our other guests arrive we must now shuffle and move around. I don't understand why they didn't follow my booking changes as they agreed to follow up on the changes.<br/><br/>As for the drinks. We pay so much for the drinks but there was hardly any alcohol in the drinks, we had let our waiter know and he didn't even try to make a plan for us. He just told us that we had to order another drink, but how does that even help. We ordered the ginger beer drink it was tasty but hardly any alcohol.<br/><br/>The food. We were a big table so we ordered plates to share, which worked out better because we had a bigger variety of foods and the price overall was not too bad for a big table. We ordered starters and mains. With the mains, the portions of the pasta were nice and big. We also ordered a chicken and fillet dish, the portions of those were small, I was disappointed because the dish was expensive for a small portion compared to the big portions of pasta.<br/><br/>Overall the food was good, lovely flavours and exciting plating. Need to work on their service, booking system and assess the menu for value of money.

We chose Gemelli to celebrate a 60th wedding anniversary! Isaac was our fabulous waiter. The food was excellent. Every dish well presented and yummy. Awesomeness all round

This place has literally the best Pork Belly in Johannesburg, what an amazing meal. I would also like to praise the service as well as the ambiance, it was a great experience, definitely doing it again

Once again an overrated place with an over rated crowd. Really never enjoy the food. The chicken in the penne pasta tasted like chicken sausage from the supermarket. Also the gnocchi was soggy and tasted very similar to the chicken pasta.

<br/><br/>We were told that booking has to be made way in advance but we booked the day before for 8 people and manage to get a reservation.<br/><br/>Service was excellent. All enjoyed their meals however my dish, the Norwegian Salmon was tasteless. Just to check that I was not full of nonsense my colleague also tasted it and agreed 100% that it was tasteless, couldn’t eat it and the waiter offered to take it back. Sole was my replacement which was okay. The rest of my colleagues enjoyed their steak dishes and pasta.<br/><br/>Dessert went down well with most. Brownie had a weird taste. We ordered a Rum and Raisin Malva pudding for a takeaway which we did not get. Cocktails were good.

First impressions set tones for the experience one is to have in the ensuing hours. It was clear from the onset when our 15 pax reservation was only set for 10, that Gemelli Cucina Bar was going to be another disappointing Joburg restaurant full of misused potential. After squeezing together at our table, huddled beside other restaurant goers who’s tables were too close for personal comfort - we had to flag waiters multiple times just to bring sufficient cutlery and crockery for our group. In addition, our cocktail jugs of which we refilled up to six times left our group at a unanimous decision that they were poorly mixed. When brought to the waiters attention - he simply suggested we change our order if we’re unhappy as opposed to bringing it to the kitchens attention. The arrival of our food however, did not put a complete damper on the experience as it was well prepared and of a high standard in juxtaposition to competing restaurants, although overpriced. Gemelli left mixed feelings in our group as we had all enjoyed ourselves - though were not satisfied with its value for money. <br/>

Rather disappointing, given the positive reviews. The food sounds fantastic on the menu, but what is on the plate doesn't quite live up to what is advertised. The tables were much too close together, so we felt like the couple next to us were celebrating with us.<br/>

I had the steak special , it was cooked perfectly! The Julep cocktail wanted me to have another one but I chose to be a law abiding citizen instead. Can you believe it? <br/><br/>Great vibe , ingenious menu and I’m sure by now, with all the great reviews you don’t need further convincing that this place is worth a visit.

They are short 0.5 of a 100% review because nothing is ever that great. Gemelli is a must try. Call and book a table beforehand or you will have to settle for the patio just as we did even though it was mid week. Great ambiance and efficient staff. Even better food. Had a starter (loved the chicken thighs), main, dessert (😍) a soft drink and coffee all for R390 (tip included).<br/><br/>***review Edit*** (8 months after initial visit)<br/>I went back to Gemelli and I was shook. I had the chicken thighs again. And the portion had decreased dramatically. Those 2 flat chicken thighs I had are not worth the R80. Was having that for the last time.<br/><br/>We went back for a birthday dinner. There is a fee of R150 if you bring your own cake. Or you can have them make a cake for R450 - R650. Again, R450 is ridiculous for the cake we got. Rather take your own cake and pay the fee. The size, presentation and taste of the chocolate we had is not worth the R450 paid.<br/><br/>It was also extremely loud. We could barely hear each other. And this was on a random Wednesday. For a more intimate experience rather book the "Pula" dining area away from the main restaurant. I did not see how it looks or how big it is but I am sure it beats screaming from across the table.

Great combination of flavours and textures. <br/><br/>Would even just go there for dessert, I'm not a massive chocolate person but wow, their chocolate brownie is truly spectacular ( especially with the crunchy pieces of honeycomb?) <br/><br/>Great restaurant and always look forward to going there!
