The food was fantastic! Had a vegetarian pasta and it was honestly delicious and full flavors, also a really good portion size! The cocktails were amazing as well and to top it off the service from our waiter was incredible. So friendly, helpful and on the ball the whole night! By far the best service I’ve had in a while 👌🏼

I consider myself a foodie and decided to check out this place. I feel I know Italian food reasonably well, but this didn't feel like your run of the mill, garden variety Italian joint. It's a high quality, well run establishment, with courteous and attentive staff, lovely atmosphere and great food. I took a chance with my meal and while I wouldn't normally choose it, I was pleasantly surprised.
Just know, this is not a cheap place, but if you have a treat every now and then, consider Gemelli.
Loved it. It stood up to all the expectations. The staff were great. Service was stunning. Food was a must have. From the calamari to the pasta to the pork belly oh and choc brownie.

Gemelli is one of my favorite restaurants in JHB. I can safely say their pasta is the best I’ve had so far. They have a nice food and drinks menu. I thoroughly enjoyed their cocktails also. It gets really full though so definitely do make a reservation before making your way there.
This review is about alternate Gemelli venue called Pantry. It was a really awesome experience and I loved absolutely everything about it. The price point is also not that bad, I found the food to be great and good value for money. Will definitely be hitting another brunch there soon.

Caprese salad was one of the best I’ve had, lamb ragu pasta is still my favorite pasta dish in jhb. The dessert though was a bit of a let down, looked great but it was dry! Overall though great experience
We enjoyed our overall experience here, especially the service and the fantastic starters (oxtail spring rolls and salmon arancini). They didn't have the wine or main course we wanted in stock anymore which was a little frustrating. The seafood linguini I ended up having was a little "meh" - lacking in seasoning.
A wonderful evening. THE BEST SEAFOOD PASTA I have ever eaten in my life. Other highlights were the Cheesecake and the cappuccino. The starters were all good.

This is one of my favorite go to spots in JHB. First of all the service is amazing - friendly and attentive staff. i have been to Gemelli several times but had taken my mother there for the 1st time who remarked on how perfect the pork belly was. Lovely spot I had heard lots about and finally got the Gabe to try for myself. Service was good, food equally as good. I had the pork belly while my friends had the steak and another the seafood pasta which I will surely try next time.
Went for dinner last night (21 March) to celebrate our 11 year wedding anniversary. The place was packed and noisy. Not for everyone, but that’s Gemelli on a public holiday. In short, the pasta dishes (lamb ragu and penne Alessandro) were delicious, dessert a highlight, and service on point. Highly recommended!
Stunning restaurant. I went there for a work function and we hand an absolute great time. I order the seafood and it came with a garden salad and I ordered a cheesecake for dessert. It was such a difficult decision because everything on the dessert menu sounded so yummy.
I would recommend this place to working class people who want good quality food. It is not the most affordable place but I think that has to do with the persona and vibe they’ve established.
The atmosphere and food was really great! I had my birthday dinner party here recently and although there were a few hiccups with the bookings the staff were very friendly. Definitely worth a visit
Had my birthday dinner here on a Tuesday evening.. The place was packed for a Tuesday! The food was good, all round. The only downside was the noise that really took away from the enjoyment. The winner of the night had to be the strawberry sorbet and the creamy prawn pasta!

Gemelli’s reputation precedes itself. Been here on previous occasions - and the overall experience was nothing short of fantabulous. Today not so much .
Food was good - not fantabulous as on previous occasions. Had the mussles, pear and Gorgonzola salad and pork spring rolls for starters. Disappointing that the chef ‘wasn’t happy with the bread today’ - so no bread to mop up the mussel juices 🤨; after being told that the delay was because the bread was in the oven.
Mains included lasagne, prawn and chorizo pasta and lamb ragu . Not bad - but had better on previous visits. Lacked seasoning and the usual TLC from the kitchen that usually accompanies the dishes.
Pudding was tiramisu , cheesecake and creme brûlée.
It was my daughter’s birthday - no pomp and flair from the waiters as per previous visits. Quite disappointing as she turned 12 and was looking forward to being fussed over. Only 2 waiters delivered a lack-lustre version of ‘happy birthday’ - underwhelming and disappointing to a 12year old who was so looking forward to her meal at Gemmelli.
The restaurant was fairly empty - and seems like the wait staff jumped at the opportunity to indulge in sub-standard (and so unlike) hosting. Quite a disappointment , considering that previous visits were nothing short of amaze balls.
It wasn’t terrible, but it did lack a lot of oomph this time. Will definitely think twice before I return for personal or business reasons.
So I decided to treat my best friend for her birthday - and GEMELLI was just that A Treat. The Paella converted my bestie from a non seafood eater to a seafood lover. The cocktails were original and refreshing. The portions are decent. The service is A level. A pricey though but worth it.
Gemelli Cucina upped the Italian restaurnat game when they opened.
Their pastas are delicious and freshly made. Their wine list hasn't disappointed us yet. The ambience is alwyas pleasant and relaxing!
There could be more vegetarian options though, I usually end up eating the same few things every time I'm there. Their menu is due for a refresh though, it would be a good way to keep the patrons coming back for something different,
I went to Gemelli for a lunch, the ambiance, food, service was the best I've had in a while. Tumi, Sebastian and Herman were all wonderful. The Alessandro starter, fish and prawn main and the cheesecake dessert were all top notch. I would recommend it any day.
This restaurant amazed me with their excellent service. Service that was instant. Hard to find a restaurant with such quick service. Faster than fast food but with much much better quality. Their food hits the spot. Pricey but worth the try.
I'm not a fan of pasta anymore but I go to Gemelli to ignite a love for it. An all round winner of a restaurant. I wish they can get a bigger place though with a view.
It was a Sunday afternoon when I decided to try out this really popular place. I’ve heard raving reviews about their food and gin cocktails that I just haaad to try it out.
I had not booked a table prior but the lovely hostess managed to place me at corner table with an amazing breeze of air. I then started off with the Elderflower Tonic which I must say was absolutely amazing.
I proceeded to order food and went for a chicken poster with prawn tails which for me was good but was short of that something extra...
I decided to down that meal with a bottle of MCC which I must say went really well with their trimasu trifle. Okay, so I need a whooole section about that dessert. My goodness it was the most perfectly balanced dessert I’ve ever tasted in my life. Wow. What an amazing end to my meal.
So to conclude:
the service was top 2 and not 2!!
The food was good!
The drinks were amazing!
And the dessert was superb!!!
This is my favourite restaurant in Jhb. The food, drinks and vibe are perfect. The staff is friendly! The place has such a great ambience and honestly, it sells itself 🎈
Oh wow. How I love good hearty italian food feast, meaning I LOVE Gemelli Cucina Bar.
The ambience is sleek, sophisticated but with old-school charm and I love the big bright yellow lights.
Every time I tell myself to not eat pasta and fortunately I fail every time because it’s just that good. If you like chilli order away, but if your not into a good level of hotness I’d recommend asking for your chilli on the side. Other than that, Gemelli has never disappointed me with the variety and the quality.
Extremely keen to head back for some of those good-looking dessert.
Make your way there and you won’t be disappointed.

The food here is spectacular - the family portion option being particularly wholesome. That being said, it seems like maybe there have been either too many people cramped into the space or bad acoustics in the design - it's very loud. We went at lunch time on a Sunday, and had a pleasant time, but couldn't really talk to everyone at our own table. Service was excellent!
3 words...WORTH THE HYPE! I wanted to wait until I had been to the restaurant atleast 3 times to ensure that I wasn’t just falling into the hype of how great The restaurant is, the honeymoon risotto is worth raving over , the steak was delicious , the lasagna was delicious . They have this starter that has sausages mixed with calamari which is a combination I never thought could ever work but the flavours are so complex and rich. I can’t even recommend a specific meal because no matter what your taste is , you will find something that you like at that restaurant. It is a bit on the pricey side but honestly it is worth it, you will not walk out with any regrets. Make sure you try one of the cocktails as they’re super tasty !

This is a cool spot. It’s kinda the place to see the who’s who of Joburg. The ‘artsy/influencer’ types. Whatever the crowd, I have to say that the food is yum. My goodness! I am NOT a pasta person at all, so landing up at an Italian restaurant, I was prepared to not have a meal; perhaps just a light plate. But my friend convinced me it was worth trying and I am so glad she did. I had the Ragu di Bologna and my, my, my! Guys. I can still taste all that goodness in my mouth. Flavourful and just the right amount of each ingredient in the dish. My friend had a beef fillet and was raving about it endlessly. So their non-traditional Italian dishes are also worth trying.
Their cocktails are also lovely! Check out the wide selection. Their signature, the Elderflower Tonic is bae. No lies. It is definitely worth trying, especially if you’re a gin head, which I totally & shamelessly am🙈
Thankfully, we went there on the Saturday of the Durban July and so it wasn’t packed at all, or at least not as packed as we’ve been told it gets on a Saturday. I don’t particularly like those kinds of set ups. I like a chilled and non-jam packed environment. So if you’re like me, perhaps aim for Saturday or Sunday pm or evening of the latter.
The service is great. Warm and respectful. The gentlemen at the bar (we moved from the restaurant to the bar later as the day transitioned to evening) are also so very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to ensure your drinks are to your liking. Definitely pay this place a visit. You’ll be impressed. Ooh & the decor is also beautiful. Classy yet inviting and warm!

Wow, Gemelli is nothing less than outstanding. The restaurant is busy and noisy, which is what we like. Our food was so flavorful and our waiter was the best waiter I have ever had. They gave all the women complimentary sparkling wine, for women’s day, which I thought was a wonderful gesture.
We were invited to dinner at Gemelli’s by friends - what an amazing experience ! The food was well prepared - they have a very interesting menu choice - the wines are excellent - deserts were amazing and the service was excellent. Gemelli’s was all about flavor taste aroma and enjoyment - a wonderful evening - we were made to feel very special by the staff - thank you !
Went there 21July and the food and service was excellent. I'm giving a rating of 4, however, because of the crowded and quite noisy atmosphere. The venue was quite packed and for some reason also loitering and loud rap music outside?🤷♀️

Good company & good food is almost always a winner for most people. When you combine that with a place as lovely as Gemelli and you have a perfect combination. Gemelli is a wonderful trendy Italian restaurant thay prides itself on good food in a beautiful ambient setting.
We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with some friends - I had the penne allesandro which was delicious. The others had the arabiata, pork belly (which unfortunately lacked the crisp crackling) and the line fish of the day which was kingclip served with baby potatoes & grilled prawns.
Pity I was so full I didn't have room for dessert but my friends shared the warm chocolate brownie which judging from their reactions was delicious.
Gemelli was honestly a wonder. The food was amazing. There was a great, warm vibe. My friend had the paella and I had the Gemelli chicken.
I had a bit of a problem with service. We were seated by the host and it took a bit of time before we could order our wine. We constantly had to try and get the attention of a waiter as we were not assigned our own. One waiter “took us in” in the end (lol) but besides all of that, it was a good experience.
Gemelli is a trendy upmarket restaurant in the northern suburbs. The atmosphere was slightly too loud and crowded for my liking, as I prefer slightler quieter restaurants especially when paying the prices of Gemelli. Nevertheless the food was great - the two standout dishes were the steak and the chocolate ganache-y dessert which was incredible.

I had the lamb main dish. It was so yummy. The lamb was soft and cooked perfectly. The mushroom risotto that came with it was also delicious. I was very happy and pleased with the service.
Brilliant. From the atmosphere, to service, to food...seamless and beautiful. Our waiter, Funny, was really patient with my parents (who are quite fussy eaters!). The food was exceptionally flavored, eye catching and well portioned. I am currently sitting on the couch, full bellied, still smacking my lips from that linguine pasta
Food was incredible, service was a little slow but it seems to be very abuzz on a Friday night and the food is really worth the wait. A definite must if looking for good food and that “Jbg” vibe.
Food and service are excellent but, the ambient noise level was a detraction from the atmosphere of this restaurant. I’m not sure if there was no background music to dull down the chatter (I couldn’t hear if there was any playing), or if it’s just a bad acoustic environment, but I couldn’t hear my dinning partner across the table or our waiter, while I could clearly hear all the high pitched talking and clinking of cutlery.
TLDR: Food good, but too noisy

Gemelli add a 12% gratuity to all their bills
This is hidden in the middle of the bill as they then put all the items on your bill into alphabetical order. The bill then also comes with a tip option and the waiters do not tell you about the gratuity already added.
I went to Gemelli last night ( two weeks after above review) and was impressed to see that Gemelli have dealt with the above billing issue . The 12% gratuity is still included and placed in the middle of the alphabetically presented bill , but is now highlighted and our waiter brought it to our attention.
Now this is a restaurant that represents South Africa at its best. The vibe is amazing with brilliant service to match. They are super busy so make sure to book. The pork spring rolls are brilliant. But the piece de resistance is the pork belly. It has a hefty price tag but do not be distracted by it. It is the best meal I’ve had in years. Worth every cent and then some. By far the best at the table on both occasions. Then desert - the creme brûlée is seriously orange which in my world is avoid but the chocolate dessert and cheese cake is to die for.
However - the pork - still the best thing ever!!!!
Italian cuisine has got to be one of my favorites. After visiting Gemelli a couple of weeks ago I had tried the pumpkin and butternut risotto, which was really good.The service wasn’t all that great though but the lovely risotto compensated for that, I would definitely visit again!
I had the pork belly, which was an interesting and most definitely delicious fusion of flavours. The Tirimisu was an interesting twist on a conventional Tirimisu and it was pleasant. The vibe was most definitely buzzing and surprisingly busy for mid-week. Service when we could make contact was great.
Was really excited to go to Gemelli as a I had heard wonderful things about it from family and friends.
They were all right. I was impressed. The service was excellent. I was well attended to and the waiters really know a lot about their menu and were willing to assist me.
The food was cooked to perfection. It didn’t take too long which is always a bonus. The cocktail I had was well balanced.

Been there for lunch on a Friday. Atmosphere is great. Had to swop chairs for the more comfortable leather chairs. Looks awesome and very clean bathroom.

This has become my new favorite Sunday spot, went for a late lunch with my fiancé, everything from arrival was 10/10, this restaurant has very well trained waiters and staff, our waiter was very good at helping us decide what we were gonna eat, we recommended the Penne Alessandro, and wow!! What an amazing dish to end off the weekend! We will definitely be coming back!
I would actually give them a 4.5 rating. We had a birthday dinner here recently and I was so pleased to finally get a booking! (I always try to get a spot last-minute) The service was excellent and they frequently checked if we were happy. We ordered the risotto and gnocchi which we then split - both amazing! I didn't order dessert, but tried some of the others and it was okay in my opinion (with the brownie being the best). My only complaint would be how stuffy the restaurant gets because everyone gets so crammed in. But will definitely be back!
I love restaurants that do not try to complicate Italian dishes by using too many fancy ingredients- and Gemelli Cucina Bar did just that. I went there for my birthday celebration and the service and food was great. I had the gnocchi dish and it was jam packed with flavour! The only disappointing part was the noise- the restaurant is divided into small 'rooms' and it makes it hard to hear each other in the stuffy, full space. Specially as we were in a section where the other table had about 20 rowdy people. Also, the chocolate cake was amazing but the cheesecake quite bland and underwhelming.
Great to see a *quality* successful restaurant in Jhb's more northern suburbs. The place gets packed but not in an overly deafening or overcrowded way.
An excellent well thought out menu staying true to an Italian theme. The food was of great quality and exceeded my expectations. I wasn't drinking but the rest of the table seemed happy with the wine selection.

We were greeted with the utmost professionalism and that set the tone for the lunch. The menu has so many delicious sounding dishes it leaves you spoilt for choice. We both had pasta which arrived at lightning speed and was equally delicious. The service is superb and the ambience fitting for an enjoyable lunch. This is easily my favorite restaurant in Johannesburg. The service is always amazing and the food NEVER disappoints me.
You can take anyone there - there’s a covey bar outside (with a great selection on music) and inside you can have great conversation. From a date to a work meeting or fancy dinner with friends. THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. The owner is there often and always interacts with you.
I will also say that for the quality of the food there is prices are fairly good.

I like the look of the venue, the food was delicious and the service was good. However, the portions are tiny and the venue is sightly cramped and incredibly noisy, it's impossible to have a conversation in there.

But the food wasn’t that great, I had a pasta which was under cooked, my mom and sister in law had a filet which looked boiled then grilled and they both didn’t enjoy it. I was a bit disappointed with the food since it’s priced like other major restaurants but the food didn’t live up to it’s pricing.
Really enjoyed this trendy spot. Inside is a buzz with conversation and outside a vibey bar. Such a unique setup- the steaks and polo Gemelli did not disappoint. Service was great. The tiramisu trifle is a must try. Sorry was to excited to take a pic of it.
We’ve been here twice now and really enjoyed our experiences. On the last outing I had the lamb while The Husband had the melanzane parmigiano. I thoroughly enjoyed my lamb so much so that I finished my meal before him (a first for us). Service is excellent and the ambience is great, perfect for date night.
We chose Gemelli to celebrate a 60th wedding anniversary! Isaac was our fabulous waiter. The food was excellent. Every dish well presented and yummy. Awesomeness all round
This place has literally the best Pork Belly in Johannesburg, what an amazing meal. I would also like to praise the service as well as the ambiance, it was a great experience, definitely doing it again
We were told that booking has to be made way in advance but we booked the day before for 8 people and manage to get a reservation.
Service was excellent. All enjoyed their meals however my dish, the Norwegian Salmon was tasteless. Just to check that I was not full of nonsense my colleague also tasted it and agreed 100% that it was tasteless, couldn’t eat it and the waiter offered to take it back. Sole was my replacement which was okay. The rest of my colleagues enjoyed their steak dishes and pasta.
Dessert went down well with most. Brownie had a weird taste. We ordered a Rum and Raisin Malva pudding for a takeaway which we did not get. Cocktails were good.
Best pasta I’ve had in years. Staff are attentive and friendly. Great place for a lunch meeting. Looking forward to going back. Thank you Gemelli!

They are short 0.5 of a 100% review because nothing is ever that great. Gemelli is a must try. Call and book a table beforehand or you will have to settle for the patio just as we did even though it was mid week. Great ambiance and efficient staff. Even better food. Had a starter (loved the chicken thighs), main, dessert (😍) a soft drink and coffee all for R390 (tip included).

I went back to Gemelli and I was shook. I had the chicken thighs again. And the portion had decreased dramatically. Those 2 flat chicken thighs I had are not worth the R80. Was having that for the last time.
We went back for a birthday dinner. There is a fee of R150 if you bring your own cake. Or you can have them make a cake for R450 - R650. Again, R450 is ridiculous for the cake we got. Rather take your own cake and pay the fee. The size, presentation and taste of the chocolate we had is not worth the R450 paid.
It was also extremely loud. We could barely hear each other. And this was on a random Wednesday. For a more intimate experience rather book the "Pula" dining area away from the main restaurant. I did not see how it looks or how big it is but I am sure it beats screaming from across the table.
Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Jhb at the moment.

Their seafood pasta is absolutely delicious and their house salad is one of the best salads I've ever had! Great combination of flavours and textures.

Had the best Sunday evening here a few weeks ago! I love the new renovations, the place looks amazing. The decor is so sexy & understated. Gives a perfect ambience & makes you feel like you’re in a Hollywood film 😅. The staff were super friendly & helpful. A far cry from my very first time here when the waiters were rude & seemed overwhelmed. The food was PERFECT! I had the mussel starter, which was such a big portion that I didn’t finish my mains. For mains I had the pork belly which was even more wonderful a day later after I’d warmed it up for lunch. My only criticism is that the food is super rich & the portions are big, so leave your diet at the door please! I’m super glad that they separated the people who want a loud vibe from people who want a nice relaxed meal. You can still hear the music from outside but it’s not too bad. I want to go back & try the rest of the menu, this will be my go-to place moving forward!
I went there and it was my birthday, I had a cake. Immediately the waitress took it and put it in the fridge for me. We ordered our food and drinks and it all came out fresh and delicious.
Our waitress went the extra mile and took pictures of me with my cake when we were done dinning. The food alone deserves praise but the extra mile service needs a mention too :)
If you're looking for the best pasta, this is where it's at. I tried the burger this time, which was decent. If you're coming here for dinner, expect the place to be really noisy.
I had a lovely experience here! The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is lively. The food is amazing and I'm not even kidding when I say that ALL the dishes we ordered were delicious. I would 100% come here again and highly recommend eating here.

We were going to try out Pantry, only to be told “it now operates upstairs” with a totally different name. However, the guys upstairs didn’t disappoint. Good food & good service. Will definitely go back👍🏾
This is one different unique restaurant with a combination of Italian and African cuisine,the new revamp offers a fine dining experience that's worth it. May I suggest the new dish Lamb Knuckles served with mash and creamed spinach
This place is divided into 2 sperate spaces, the one space is calm and relaxed, the other space is vibey, crowded and groovy. I would give them 5 star, their food is devine. But you can literally taste the gas they use on the steak and springbock. They are a bit pricy as well. But if you have a deep pocket, I'd definitely recommend this place. Love it.

I don't know if this is relevant, but coming from USA we intentionally set out to support Black owned businesses globally. This place was a vibe! From the decor to the food and service, I have zero complaints. If you are struggling to find a place struggle no more. Make a reservation, get dressed, and enjoy
The service is top tier you don’t wait for one person to attend to you, literally anyone makes sure that you are served.
Food doesn’t even take long… my main arrived while I was still half way my starter.
The food was so tasty and worth every cent. If you want excellent tasting food go to Gemelli!
I wish i can dine there every weekend. Their chef is very talented i must say. Can never fault anything there. We wenr there 2 consecutive nights.
Amazing food, great service, lively atmosphere
First, we weren't allowed inside of Gemelli's main restaurant because my husband had on shorts. So, we were redirected to Phirinyane bar, which is located next door and is a part of Gemelli's. We were also told the menu would be the same. So, the Phirinyane bar: The food was pretty good. We had the Gorgonzola Gnocchi and Oxtail Gnocchi. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The venue itself is fairly small with tables very close together. It was busy and extremely loud, making it difficult to have a conversation and there was smoking and vaping with no separation. Overall, it was an ok experience, but the food and drinks were a bit pricey and I did not like all the second hand smoke.
