Great Portuguese restaurant. The food is tasty and affordable, not fancy but proper food. Area is a bit dodge but they do have car guards. The staff are friendly and great. They do sit down and take away.

About as authentic as you’ll get! Food was simple but delicious and service was really good. It’s amazing to see how involved the entire family was and how well the owners connected with patrons who’ve seemingly been coming there for years. Well priced and and good quality.

I walked off the street straight into a family owned restaurant right in the heart of Portugal!

You will not find nicer calamari and steak trinchado in Johannesburg. The prices are fair and the portions are generous. The atmosphere is authentic Portuguese

Fantastic food. Staff make you feel at home. Shared a whole chicken with a business colleague. Comes with salad and chips. A container of peri peri sauce is available on the table. Best chicken I've had in many years. Thank you.

We had a very pleasant visit. The food was good and the porsions were generous. The restaurant is clean and we received good service. We were happy when the bill came as it did not break the bank. It is appropriate to take your whole family or even a date.

A boksburg institution.
I've visited the bar over 100 times before actually trying the restaurant side. What a fantastic gem.
It feels as homely as your mothers kitchen. The owner is everywhere, she's obviously very "hands on" on all aspects.
The food is delicious, authentic and good value.
As expected, chicken/prawn/calamari all recommended. Their homemade peri peri sauce is outstanding.

Place is as authentic Portuguese as they come. Menu is as cheap as chips. Food is ok but the owner is hands on and worth the visit just to see her in action . Prawns best thing on menu .

Manelito is a little hidden gem. Its pretty much as Portuguese as you can get. It has a homely relaxed atmosphere as well as fun and friendly staff. The food is average, but if you include the ambiance, the people and the whole experience its definitely worth a visit on a night out.

Manelito is the most authentic Portuguese restaurant I have ever been to - the food is amazing and great value for money. It feels like you are part of the family when dining at Manelito. We start getting withdrawal symptoms if we don't go often.

Visited on a busy Friday night service was ok we didn't book, as we thought it wasn't necessary so we ended up waiting for a table which was fine. The decor was authentic and had a homely feel to it. The food is once again ok good portion size. We had prawns for a side dish and that was the best and second to that I would say the Sole was good.

This places is unapologetically Portuguese. It is as authentic as it comes. My family has been coming here for years and Manelito's has always been there to provide quality Portuguese meals to not just the Portuguese but the locals in the area too. I like how there are two sides to the restaurant one being the obviously Portuguese side where the staff talk the language and understand you are most liking there for the plate of the day. Many of the regulars have been coming for years. Some non Portuguese customers may take offense to the approach of the staff but you know what this is as close to an authentic small Portuguese restaurant as you will get in Joburg.

Most disgusting food, will never order take aways from Manelitos ever again. All the food was made slap dash and no taste to anything.Very disappointed.

Nothing wrong with the food. A little plain but nothing wrong. Decor is typical Portuguese. The coffee was great! I don't think I will come back as the food isn't out of this world. Just some typical home cooked Portuguese cuisine. (Although my fiance cooks better, she is Portuguese after all)

A lovely hidden gem. Food was delicious and home-style. I had the squid: tender and perfectly spiced. My partner had the chicken which was tender and wonderful. Service a little slow, but super-friendly and helpful. Big portions, very reasonable prices, ambience great and casual.

The location may be daunting but don't let that put you off. Traditional Portuguese cooking in a quant setting. Even during the week this place is busy and on weekends even busier. Something different to try if you are looking.

Hidden gem on the wrong side of boksburg! Tasty Porra food, good size portions at great value for money. Authentic decor and friendly service makes for an enjoyable experience

We eat here more than any where else, it's our second home and we love everything about it. We have never had a disappointing meal here in the 28 years!
They are obviously doing something right to have stood the test of time.

Rustic , tatty Portuguese , however, excellent prawns, calamari , sole . Shabby area , but well visited by those "in the know".
I have never ,ever, been disappointed . Good value to money and reasonably quick , but friendly service by mainly family members

Jules

The Boksburg CBD is relatively dead. Manelito's is an exception. Traditional Portuguese favourites such as sardines, cod, chorizo dominate the pleasant family-friendly environment. Clams are rated as exceptional by my partner who has ordered them again. I found the chicken peri peri average last time but today's beef trinchado was superb. We shared a combo platter of sole, calamari and prawns. (Pictured with clams behind)
Summary: worth stopping by if you're in the neighbourhood but don't drive out here from Jo'burg. Callisto or A Churrasqueira are better bets.

The food is excellent and it is proper portuguese food

Smack bang in Boksburgs CBD the location of the restaurant may be daunting
If your looking for traditional Portuguese fare you need look no further
The restaurant is currently run by 3 generations of the same family ,
The Decor is very oldschool and the interior is steeped with tradition , it may seem a little tatty but knowing how long the place has been around for makes it OK

Notable dishes are the chicken,Kingklip and trinchado ,

If you're feeling adventurous , give this place a go.But expect a no frills hearty meal . with the order more than likely being taken by the owners wife
