Review On The Rocks - Bloubergstrand

Amber Duncan
I really loved the atmosphere of this place. The staff were so friendly, chatty and welcoming. Everything was presented well and it was buzzing inside in the best way. Gorgeous view of the sunset too. I had the white wine cream mussels and my partner had the curry mussels. I found the sauces to be a little too subtle in flavour for my liking, very light but they didn't add any extra depth to the flavour of the mussels themselves. Mojitos were delicious!

Everything absolutely superb. Prices were unbelievably competitive for such high quality. Our service guy, I’m so sorry forgot your name, but above and beyond Oh and the views….wow.

We had a great time, food was delicious . Thanks to our Server George, who was committed to great service and very friendly. The fireplace created a good ambience. Highly recommended this place for sunsets, great food and wine.

Great view, lovely atmosphere, friendly and efficient service. Cape Malay mussels had me feeling like the critic in Ratatouli. Wow!!

Wow just love this place a must visit if you in Cape Town. The food exceptional and the view really worth it. I had the best line fish with risotto. Highly recommend On The Rocks. BTW Best view of Table Mountain
Tayla Wessels
Excellent, tasteful cuisine with phenomenal views of the ocean and Table Mountain.

Food was AMAZING..Definitely made up for the slow service and the fact that half the items on the menu was not available. I would definitely go back again just for the mussel cape malay curry!

A beautiful setting. We had a very pleasant breakfast and the service was good. It looks like a really nice restaurant for a lunch gathering and the patio is right on the rocks.

Amazing service, the drinks were great! Their cocktails are strong and tasty. Absolutely loved our food! It was delicious! The service was 10/10 Thoroughly enjoyed my experience there and will be back!

Absolutely divine dining experience. This is truly a gem of a restaurant. Great for socializing and meet-ups. But the highlight is the culinary experience. Ordered the clam chowder soup for starters which was amazingly rich, the lamb for mains and my colleague ordered the kudu both if which were incredibly well-plated and delicious. For dessert, we had the creme brulee, also rich even though I’m not a dessert guy. Overall a very pleasant night.

The kudu carpatio and squid heads was really good. The wine list is very comprehensive.

Great place, fantastic view of Cape Town, good food

Breakfast was amazing, everything was very fresh and delicious and value for money. Hot beverages was definitely tops and what made it more Better was the quick service from the waiter and the stunning view. Would definitely be returning again, highly recommended.

There are classy seaside establishments, and then there is On the Rocks. Professionally managed with engaged and attentive staff. Good food in more than adequate quantities. All food is well prepared and attractively presented. Hold on to your manager and give him a big pay rise because he captains a fine ship.
George Wolhuter
Fantastic view and the deck is right up on the ocean. You can literally feel the spray from the waves. Food was great and our waiter was spot on. Exactly what we were looking for.

My partner and I were there last night for dinner, and it was spectacular beyond anything we have ever had prior. From the service to the view, the entire ambience of the place is warm and inviting, and the servers do not rush you to leave in any way, allowing for a more relaxed state of being as the food arrives. Now for the food... I am and remain convinced that you have no mere man in the kitchen as a Chef because no mortal could have prepared and placed the food that we enjoyed last night. Your Chef is more than an artist of culinary delights, he specializes in sorcery as well and has somehow managed to capture the taste of perfection. I had the steak with the marrow topping and a wonderfully crisp bottle of white wine that was as well selected as the restaurant. For dessert? I don't actually have words adequate enough to describe the experience but I'll try. I've never before had food give me goosebumps or a feeling akin to painful pleasure. Music has certainly moved me to goosebumps and near tears of joy, but never food. Not until this cheesecake. The taste was exquisitely amazing, and I'm certain that it is what joy must taste like if it were food. It left the most delightful aftertaste that persisted long after having finished (sadly) the last bite. At the end of the evening, when we wanted nothing more than to pass along the happiness received from this lovely place, and its people - we were even offered a chance to meet this magician behind the scenes in the kitchen, alas he was understandably busy... but I bet the Wizard of Oz is not meant to be seen. ;) If anyone else is reading this wondering if this is the place to go for dinner or any other meal... I can't stress enough how wonderful the restaurant is, from the view of the mountain and her clouds that pour off the top, the rocky coast and beach, and an uninterrupted view of the sun as it dips below the water... everything here is combined so perfectly that this place is a fully sensory delight that you will never top again.

Stunning view, average food and poor service. Definitely overrated. Would not recommend. Used to be so much better. Very disappointed.
Melissa Stemmet
I am very disappointed in the service that I received today. We were served by several different people, the cheese for the continental breakfast was stale, we had to order our drinks thrice and our original waiter just gave us a hand gesture when we tried to get his attention. We had to get up to go pay for our bill and of course this was quickly handed to us, unlike the rest of the experience. Very disappointing as this was also a birthday breakfast.
Elizabeth Loock
Just love this place. Excellent food and service. Yummy breakfasts, especially the Pan Breakfast and the Omelette. Definitely worth a visit. Bonus obviously is the sea view with Table Mountain as the backdrop. See you soon again.

Had a great dining experience , quite simple menu that doesn't confuse you , I had the lamb and my gf had the ostrich steak it was perfectly done . Like the fact they have a fire place . We fell in love with the background music :) service was good and food arrived on time . Well done to team , def will be back .!.
Vicky Middleton
The food was terribly prepared and lacked spicing. There was no atmosphere or romance. To make it even worse, the service was not the best either. Not a place that will ever see me again.
Rodney Alan Swales
Great food, huge selection of wines on tap, excellent service, and awesome views to top it all off!

I have always loved this restaurant but on my birthday I had the worst meal of the group, had to send my steak back even a sharp steak knife would not go through that steak and sorry to say the replacement was bland:-((

Expected 5 star, got one star, went there as a trial run to decide if we should host our renewal of vows at On The Rocks, walked away shocked at the poor service, food and cleanliness of the restaurant. Issues included a dirty table cloth and floors, a pork fillet tough as rubber, a pita bread so hard you could not get a fork into it and needed a steak knife to cut it, and the cherry on-top, we had to wait an hour and a half for the food to arrive, even though the restaurant was only about 20% full. We visited On the Rocks a couple of years ago and loved it, we are horrified and disappointed at what has happened to this "once great restaurant". So the search continues for a venue we can host our friends and family at for our renewal of vows.

There is nothing more horrid than expecting romance and you arrive to a place that has lighting that could be used for a deon supermarket... Then you have a table booked and are place amongst all the business folk who obviously are needing a romantic view while they talk business and a large family group that are naturally in a romantic buzz as they holler all their year events in your ear... Not to mention you are at the sliding door to the terrace where every couple of seconds a bumbling man or two open to go out to smoke and their smoke fills the cold chill they give you to ensure you go home smelling all rosy to complete the romantic touch... You watch your partner saw through a tough, cold steak accompanied with a few dried out prawns... And as the bill arrives for all of this, you swallow... Thinking that he has gone all out of his way to make this a special evening for the two of you and should not make a fuss... Glancing as the waiter tidies your table and his own wallet at the same time... Disappointment is underrated when it comes to this evening...

We were there on 29 Nov for a Birthday. There were 12 of us. I must first say that 20 of us were there about 6 months ago...we had a set menu and it was brilliant,,,BUT was Tuesday night a shocker.....Out of the 12, 6 had bad meals....four of us ordered the seafood curry.....the tasteless coconut sauce was overwhelming with no curry flavour.....very bland and anaemic. (to his credit the manager did remove from bill) The one person had a Surf and Turf,,,,,3 prawns, salad and the steak. The steak was so tough the person said it was like trying to cut and chew through there handbag......(Again the manager took the steak off the bill but still charged for the 3 prawns and salad) The last person managed to finish there steak...it also was very tough and chewy. The service was ok but not fantastic as waiter could have been round more. At these prices one would expect a quality of food and service to be exceptional....not a great experience...will think twice before going back....many other restaurants to choose from......pity

It was breathtaking and I would love to stay there again

This spot is beautiful. Great location and fabulous view. Management and waitstaff are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The food is simply excellent, perfectly plated and delicious. Pity about lockdown as a glass of wine would round off the perfect night out.

Had a great breakfast here. Staff are friendly and setting is beautiful.

Had a great experience at On the Rocks. Excellent setting, prices were very good and great value, and service brilliant When we ordered, Blessing, our waiter, warned us food may take a while due to a large group, which I always appreciate knowing in advance, yet the food arrived very quickly. Good quality breakfast and couldn’t fault a thing Definitely on the list to frequent more often!

Having lived in the area for years, I can’t believe I have not been to On The Rocks before. But while my dad was here visiting recently, my wife suggested it (after going her dad a few months ago and having a great breakfast) and we decided to give it a go. It’s such a nice venue with some of the best views of table mountain I’ve ever seen. The staff are absolutely amazing and the food is great, too! We had coffee, tea and a number of different breakfast options, all of which were tasty and went down a treat. We al cleared out plates and left full to the brim ready to take on the day.

Just gorgeous. Amazing view, excellent service and good breakfast. What more can one ask for.<br/><br/>Bf eggs benedict was perfect; he was very excited saying it was the first place we've gone to that made it right. Like a kid in a candy shop. Making me watch each egg as he cut into it so the egg oozed. He also like the creamed spinach instead of the normal wilted ones. The poor guy had a food orgasm and even considered ordering a second plate.<br/><br/>Mine was good too, nice pork bangers. Eggs perfect<br/><br/>Looking forward to going for lunch or dinner<br/><br/>Edit: those potato balls instead of just 1 I'd like all. JK 2more wouldve been nice

Excellent!<br/>Our waiter was fantastic - remembered who ordered what and he had a great sense of humor too. <br/>Food - was delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meal. Aged rib eye, pork rack, seafood curry, lamb shoulder. Very very good. Food came in a timely manner and was presented well too.<br/>Lovely setting with the view of Table Mountain.

Beautiful day on a beautiful deck. Our table was basically on the rocks, what a good spot! Food was good in some ways and not so special in others. The mains were the best, with very tender meat and tasty fish. Starters ok but not amazing, as well as desserts, which is a pity since it would be good to finish the meal on nice note. Still very enjoyable and the waiters are friendly and fun.
Sonja Bezign
The venue is stunning, service was very good. But the food was cooked with no talent. The prawns was so boring and not the best quality. Very disappointed we were a group of 8 all eating starters and mains and not one dish was exceptional.
Carike Stravino
Service is always great along with the food and don't even get me started on those cocktails! Yumm yum yum! Only wish they would stock up on oysters, always finished when I get there.
Clarize Thompson
Wooooow the food is 5 star!!!! We had the fish taco and the Cape Malaye Seafood Curry. Out of this world. We couldnt stop talking about how delicious the food was. Very well presented as well. A place like this is the reason why you would fall inlove with food. A must visit when you are in Blouberg.
Greg Krause
On the rocks is excellently positioned, the restaurant is nestled up on the shore side and over looks Table Mountain. Beautiful. <br/>Service: was unfortunately what let the restaurant down. They were out of basic ingredients which was disappointing so couldn’t have one of the meals on menu. Waiter also left people out when taking orders. <br/>Food came at different times which meant some people were finished when others started.<br/>Food when it came was really good. Nice light meals well presented. <br/>Cost was I think fair.
Mariska Venter
Just loved it! The kids enjoyed the mussels and we had Malay Seafood Curry. The atmosphere and service were excellent. The food tasted exceptionally, beautiful setting and atmosphere!

Great views to Table mountain, delicious food, generous portions, wide wine selection. Nice spot for sunset ! Although the menu on Zomato is not correct!

Most amazingly prepared good. Perfect plate quantities. Flavors that elicit the most pleasant and unexplored emotions. Complimentary ambiance. The mood music is spot on. Recommend to anyone hoping to make an impression. Very uplifting culinary art. Well in Chef. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Awesome little breakfast spot. Delicious eggs Benedict & will definitely be back for the spinach & feta omelette. Also surprisingly reasonably priced (shhh, don't tell everyone...). Only downside was the coffee (no one likes a "flou" flat white)!

Been for: Breakfast (served til 12)<br/>Ambience: 💠💠💠💠💠 - - So close to the beach that you'll feel the sea spray. Stunning view of Table Mountain from the outside seating area.<br/>Food: 💠💠💠💠 - - The breakfasts are great. I had the bacon, mushroom and mozzarella omelette, served with a small rosti ball and hollandaise sauce. The omelette is light and packed with fillings to keep you going during that walk along the beach that you can't help but take after an indulgent breakfast.<br/>Value for Money: 💠💠💠💠💠 - - Very well priced breakfast menu. Most breakfasts are ~R55-65.<br/>Service: 💠💠💠💠 - - Friendly and attentive service.

The best thing about this restaurant is the view of Table Mountain and Robben Island. The decor tries to be upmarket and luxurious but due to clumsy execution ends up feeling a bit kitsch. The food is a bit hit and miss. Out of our group of six, one sent back the fillet as it was salted to the point of being inedible, while the two guest who ordered the ostrich fillet were both disappointed as the food did not match the description on the menu (the blue cheese and sundried tomatoes mentioned on the menu were nowhere to be found). I had the line fish of the day (dorado), which was fine. The happiest diners at our table were those who ordered the lamb shoulder.<br/>The service was decent, although it was a bit strange that our waiter would not divulge where the dorado had been caught. Will probably not return, unless someone else is paying.

Great staff very friendly with a fantastic View of Robbin island and table mountain. The calamari starter is good and tender. Fillet steak was also tender although a little overdone and the brûlée was really good.

Perhaps the location and the view from the restaurant just mesmerizes you entirely however, we thoroughly enjoyed our mid week brunch here. <br/>The food was exactly to order withe beyond well cooked eggs and it was absolutely Devine. <br/>The serving staff are exceptionally polite and very friendly making the dining experience even better. <br/>

Arrived to an unwelcome reception. Decor is trying to seem upmarket but does not achieve this. The chairs are uncomfortable, heavy and visually distracting. We lifted the overly long table clothes to find last night's festivities under the table. The starter muscles were ok, not a big fan of the pasta-esque sauce that accompanied them. The line fish was blue fish on the day and was great. The beef fillet was tough and cut incorrectly but tasty enough. To some up it was alright but at the price point we expected much better. Skip this.
Devin Sage
Such a good location but such a mediocre experience. <br/>The view from this restaurant is amazing. Unfortunately the decor wasn't too great, it's try too hard to be upscale but the execution is just all wrong. The chairs are simply too heavy and too uncomfortable and because of their ridiculous weight it make it near impossible to simply move the chair backwards or forwards. The tablecloths are far too long and I see what they were trying to do but it just looks untidy and goofy, far from the luxurious aesthetic they were trying to achieve. <br/>So onto the food... Let's put it this way, none of it was bad but it most certainly wasn't what I was expecting at the price point. The fillet was stock standard, the prawns were good but nothing amazing, the chili sauce had a rancid taste to it. The line fish was very smooshy towards the center and the skin wasn't crisp in the least. The one order they got right was the lamb, it was beautiful. I should have asked if they used a homemade cheese sauce for the potato bake because it tasted like it came from a packet. <br/>Service was good, shakey at times.<br/>My starter was an epic disappointment. The waiter gave me some up saying that the chef hadn't started preparing it yet. If it's on the menu then I need to be able to order it. <br/>I won't be going back any time soon.
Sibyl Wong
Not a very good experience unfortunately. <br/>Firstly, I called and checked availability, but reception kept asking me questions without telling me availability status. When he was about to put down the phone, I ask him if table is available and if reservation is confirmed. <br/>When I arrive, I can't find any proper parking, it's only on street parking. <br/>Thirdly, waiters has totally forgotten to give us napkins. When I asked for serviettes, he gave me napkins. I have to tell him clearly that napkin should have come before meal, and I have finished my meal and I now need serviettes. <br/>Fourthly, the food! Oysters are fine, my mum loves it. Beef tartre is not authentic at all. Mussels are not fresh at all. Main dish : line fish is ok ; but the lamb shank is obviously disappointed, it's dry dry and dry. <br/>In short, Not recommend at all!

Thursday evening, and busy! Big portions of well prepared food, staff and managers on the floor to attend to one's needs, and overall a satisfied experience.

Had a disappointing lunch here today. Service was painfully slow. Waitress had attitude and was patronizing of one of our elderly guests. Menu choice was very limited. Pasta dishes arrived cold and needed to be sent back for reheating. Rice was under cooked with the line fish. There were weird long strips of celery garnish piled high on our meals! I feel that for the prices we paid, the quality of food could definitely be improved. Loud saxophone music did not add to the ambience. We voiced our concerns to 3 different service staff and only then did we receive an apology rather than lame excuses! We will not be returning here.
Maxime Budan
We had a nice dinner there with a friendly waitresses. Seafood was excellent. I had the open ravioli with shrimp and crayfish as a starter and a 650 g crayfish as a main. Very juicy and was fresh. My entire group was also happy with their choice.

I have been to this little hidden gem 3 or 4 times and I have never left disappointed. I love the outside sitting area - facing the majestic table mountain and literally on the rocks. I love the sea breeze and the smell of the beach. The view is soothing, calm and picturesque. This place is ideal for a laid back lunch with friends on a sunny Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The waiters are detail orientated, attentive and quite friendly. The services is well orchestrated. Their food takes long though, prepare to wait on average 30 or more minutes for your food to be served.Luckily it is worth the wait and it gives you time to enjoy your drink of choice- in my case my bubbly and take in the beauty. I had so many dishes at this establishment and have enjoyed each. I had West Coast oysters and I paired them with  Methode Cap Classique (MCC)<br/>Graham Beck Brut.My sister had Patagonia calamari tubes, they were prepared well and not rubbery. The flavours were eminent yet balanced. she paired this with Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot Noir.My other favourite is their seared tuna, very smooth and made to perfection. I will also recommend the Mussels and heirloom tomato; that is a divine dish.<br/>For mains, I miss their Lamb shank- they took it off the menu. I, however had their Lamb shoulder, that was some funky dish. Different flavours, very dramatic and yet they married well on the palate. It is sensual and I would recommend it to a person who loves flavour fusions.<br/>My sister and her partner had  Rolled Pork Belly. This is a winner, simply delicious and very well balance. Outstanding dish, this was. We paired all our mains with Rupert and Rothschid classique. Her other all time favourite  is their sea bass.It is a very well prepared dish, a classical case of "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".<br/>Their desserts are magical, absolute heaven, not too sweet and  not too complex. They are smooth and subtle. I am not a dessert person but these, I can never leave without having them. Little temptation!!!.<br/>I had all the desserts on their new 2017 menu... ohhh not at the same sitting. On this particular day my sister had the crème brule- her reaction after her first spoon was priceless... that look of complete satisfaction. Utter happiness. I had warm dark textures of chocolate<br/>cake and spiced plums.... I am lost for words. I will do this tasty, creamy, flawless dessert injustice if I even begin to try. All I can say is "Please try it". My sister's partner had Lydia's baked cheese cake and all he could do was mutter the following " smooth, heaven must be like this" We laughed!  All we can say is CheckMate

One of my favourite restaurants in Blouberg! <br/>This restaurant is a great place to sit outside on the deck, and enjoy amazing cocktails with friends.<br/>We ordered a crème brulee last time, and the presentation was absolutely stunning - which was made even better by an amazing taste! <br/>You sit right by the water, and hear the waves crashing "on the rocks" right below. On a clear day, you can see the beauty that is Table Mountain. <br/>The staff have always been friendly, and other than slow service on some days, there is nothing else I could speak negatively about.

Outstanding! The view is out of this world and the food is excellent. We came for breakfast and left having breakfast and lunch. Superb. A MUST to come to.

Just been here for my moms birthday, great view. We had dinner and I had the mushroom pasta. I'm not a vegetarian but I feel like the menu options lacked variety. It's not a big menu. Pasta was good and I really enjoyed the cape sponge cake for dessert. My wife ordered the scallops and I had a taste. Chewy and not very well thought out. Poor actually. For over R200 you would also expect to get a few more. They give you 4??? The rest of the family seemed to enjoy their steak, fish and lamb meal. I won't be back in a hurry to be honest. Besides the view, it doesn't have much going for it and feels stuck in the past in my opinion. Needs a good menu upgrade.

This place is one of the few places in the blouberg area with a bit more of an upmarket feel, which is a nice change from the usual beach style relaxed dining. <br/>The staff follow the menu, a touch of class without being too pretentious. <br/>I love the outdoor area where you can sit and watch the waves crash against the rocks right next to you. <br/>Just be careful if it's a windy day! <br/>I'd say visit here for a special occasion or maybe a date 😉

My wife, brother in law, his wife and myself visited  On The Rocks on Tuesday night for Monday night for dinner as we had a lovely time there about 2 years back and oh my word what a difference. We would never return again.<br/>We ordered drinks and our meals and over an hour later we still had not received our food. We called on the manager (junior) who had an attitude that stinks for any restaurant besides a fast food chain. He was abrupt with us and came back to tell us that our tickets is second in line, which meant that over an hour later and the chef hadn't even started our food yet desserts were flying out the kitchen. About 15 minutes later our food arrived but not my wife's. The waiter then came to tell us that they don't have stock of my wife's meal and she must order something else, an hour and  a half it took for them to realise that my wife's chosen order was not available and now all our food was getting cold. She chose the .... it took 2 minutes to arrive as it consisted of a plate of rocket leaves, some onions and off, sour, fizzy tomatoes. I had chosen the pork belly and was told it was the best with delicious crackling, well first off i didn't get crackling as it was out of stock, secondly the meat which was soft was incredibly dry and obviously had been sitting there all day and night. My brother in laws seafood curry was made from frozen seafood mix. With a restaurant claiming to be fine dining, i have had better food at a local dodgy pub than this place. Our poor waiter was the only good thing of the night trying his best to help and keep us calm as we couldn't wait to get out of there and leave. And also once again, the manager didn't care about our complaints and the senior manager was non existent.<br/>Clearly a chef that is non caring about his food and a managerial system set up for failure and an owner that has lost touch of his business or who's heart is no longer in it. Any chef or manager who sends out three plates and leaves the fourth with nothing needs to go back to chef school 101. All from our experience, for this sort of money i would suggest trying another establishment with a great view.

Stunning view, but lacking in service. We only ordered drinks, I ordered a Haute Cabriere Pinot Noir chardonnay waitress at first did not know if any was in stock and then came back and served me a glass of Iona. When I asked the waitress what it was she served me as it wasn't what I ordered, she did not know and had to check with the barman. I ordered a pierre jourdan haute cambriere instead. Waitress apologised and She was very sweet, just not au fait with the menu. Also we were not asked if we would like to eat anything. 😞 very sad service as it wasn't busy on a mid morning Friday.

Last night I visited On The Rocks and I really enjoyed the decor however the service was a bit long due to a large function being present. The noise levels were very high. I ate an ostrich fillet which was very good as it was topped with some cherry relish and some potatoes and a sauce. The ravioli as a starter was not filled with the correct ingredients as there was a lack of lobster and was filled with shrimps.

Been to On the Rocks recently again - They used to be on top of their game some years ago. Off course they have an unbeatable view over table mountain and situated, as the name suggests, much on the rocks.<br/>They serve great food, but I have found them rather inconsistent over the years. At times you will get a great meal and leave with a great experience, while other times you leave feeling that everything could have been better.<br/>They recently upgraded the entrance to the restaurant to a small coffee shop little corner, with a barista on site selling various coffee based drinks, croissants etc. One can also order a quick coffee walking past the restaurant, as there is a Take Away opening on the outside which is rather cool.  After 5 this same space becomes a Cigar bar. As a non smoker, I don't like the idea of sharing that same coffee space as a cigar bar at times. But that can be seen as a personal opinion. <br/><br/>I recently had lunch there with people. Someone opposite me ordered the Pork Belly. It looked fantastic and feedback was great. It comes with a small piece of crackling too, which I love. I can recommend this. I ordered a Cape Malay style seafood curry. It came with a yellow Coconut milk based sauce. They serve it with one decent sized prawn, one mussel and about 12 calamari tubes. Would have ,loved to see more fish or other seafood in there. They serve that with a side of basmati rice. The garnish on top was flat leaf parsley, I think a few sprigs of Coriander would have been more suitable. Again just a personal opinion. Various starters consisting of Carpaccio which looked nice, were ordered as well as calamari tube starters.

I phoned them to book a table fmon the deck for we are on honeymoon, i spoke to a to a person and he told me the deck is of limits, my question is why do they advertise the deck then and the person was rude and im glad i didnt visit them because how would their service be at the place self if a phone conversation was that horrible.
Janet Bellingan
Decor, service & food sub-standard.<br/>Very disappointing by any standard, but by fine dining standards completely unacceptable. Aside from what i have mentioned, the restaurant was half empty but waiters "spinning"

I was truly disappointed this evening. I had been telling my new boyfriend about this special little place on the rocks and couldn't have been more embarrassed. The ambience had completely changed since I was there a few years ago. On a chilly evening like tonight, the fireplace was not lit and the new LED white lighting did not do it any favours. After our first order was not available, our second took almost an hour to arrive. The lamb was ice cold in the centre and even though it was taken off the bill it has left a cold feeling between us. On a night that was supposed to be extra special seeing as there will be almost a month before we see each other again the only smile we can muster is a memory of our excellent waiter Maxwell, a bottle of Haute Cabriere and the Pizza Hut takeaway we've bought on our way home.

On the Rocks is undoubtedly Blouberg's gem in terms of fine dining. They have been around for as long as I can remember and, in my experience, the quality and service have been consistently excellent. Although they lean more towards the expensive side, they offer an elegant, silver service, fine dining experience, which includes attentive staff and meals that are always perfectly prepared. Expect classic seafood dishes and continental European cuisine, and a spectacular view of the coast. True to its name, the restaurant is quite literally positioned on the rocks, making it ideal for special occasions (and impressing foreigners). <br/><br/>I recently celebrated my birthday here, and it was a truly memorable experience. Along with some complementary still-steaming bread buns and farm butter, we indulged in the most fresh and meaty West Coast oysters. This was followed by rich and hearty main meals which included the slow braised lamb shoulder, marrow-crusted beef fillet and Cape Malay seafood curry. Thereafter we indulged in decadent and beautifully presented desserts of Cape brandy  pudding and creme brulee. My only area of critique is that the service could have been slightly more efficient. A lovely experience nevertheless.

Nice little spot. Beautiful view and great winelist and the food is pretty good. Parking is just always a bit of a mission in winter time through the Cape Town wind and rain.

Setting, style, service and stature, this place offers it all in abundance.<br/><br/>The heavy damask table linen, wrought-iron chairs and fynbos in the bathroom basins all add to the olde world charm. Add the postcard view of Table Bay and Mountain and the sea breezes, and you have the perfect setting for a brisk business breakfast, languid lunch or perfect dinner party.<br/><br/>Wish we could visit more often.

On The Rocks has an amazing view, great food and excellent. A nearly perfect restaurant! Really had a great dinner there. Thank you very much Matthew!
Eleni Bates
What a pity our food arrived cold and had to send it back !! Otherwise service was good. For the price we paid we expected better quality food. Excellent venue on the rocks but won't be going back in a hurry.
Geraldean Howes
Always so pretty and perfectly located. I keep going back hoping for a better meal than the previous time. Such a pity they just never seem to get it right! The food was beautifully presented, the crayfish was amazing but the fish of the day and my cleverly stacked prawns were just too over cooked! Loved their wine by the glass selection. <br/>We thought we would try it for breakfast the next day as I live 1km away and the view if the crashing waves is amazing. The cheese platter was lovely but they served really stale bread which they instisted was freshly baked - not!!
Samantha Katzen
DINNER:<br/>The service was lovely, our waiter recommended some delicious wine. I started with the mussels soo yum, my boyfriend had the cheese croquettes. also super tasty.<br/><br/>I then got the Kingklip, which was cooked really well, I found it slightly bland but still delicious. My boyfriend got the Chicken roulade which looked really great.<br/>BREAKFAST:<br/>Went back today for breakfast after having such a great time at dinner. So different besides the amazing view, the service was pretty bad, waiter didn't seem to be interested. My tea was cold. Ordered the Salmon Benedict, my eggs were done well but overall it was pretty tasteless. <br/><br/>I ordered a glass of water which never came.<br/><br/>My boyfriend asked for soft eggs and was given hard. <br/><br/>May come back for dinner but will definitely not be back fir breakfast anytime soon.

We had a superb lunch for a work colleague's farewell on a perfect Autumn afternoon.  Lovely modern chic decor with an awesome view over the sea to Robben Island in one direction and Table Mountain the other. It is literally ON THE ROCKS! For a large group I was amazed how good the food was with us all dining at the same time.  My fillet was awesome, slightly more medium than the medium rare I asked for but so tasty with chicken liver/bone marrow topping.  I also chose to have a deliciously gooey chocolate fondant that literally melted as you broke it open - YUMMY!  I would love to go back again, next time for sundowners on the deck as I imagine sunset is spectacular from there.

Wow we were lucky to get to last open table for the night! What a pleasant evening. Firstly the staff is so welcoming from the begging you feel at home! The atmosfere is cosy and sofisticated. The food was amazing and one of the most pleasant meals I ever had! The quality was outstanding! I would visit a again and reccomend anyone to go and have something to eat! Oh and did I mention the spectacular view? Table moment in eye sight with the sea a few meters away?
Tulsidas Naidoo
The most amazing ambience, food experience and service from Davis. The location with the backdrop of Table Mountain was epic. Definitely a restaurant to return to.
Elizabeth Loock
We had the Breakfast pan there on 3 April 2016.  Was well presented, tasted as good as it looked.  Great atmosphere.  Great service and vibe.  Melissa went the extra mile to fetch the baby chair for my granddaughter.  They will definitely see us again.
Rhudwulf
Starters was very nice, waiters are a bit slow but sort of fit into the laid back atmosphere. The their wine selection is good and their food is well prepared and delicious.
Garry Marc
Great food, great venue and nice vibe. I recently took visitors from overseas here for dinner and the food was really good. Staff and management were very friendly and overall a pleasant experience. I had the pork belly which was outstanding. Our waiter could have been a bit quicker in response to our drinks order but well worth a visit in future.
Tanya Roos
Excellent service and beautiful view of the sea. The food was excellent and value for you money. The atmosphere makes you want te escape the hustle and bustle.
Nicolett Schwarz
We love the food and the ambience and the beautiful view. The newly opened lovely coffee shop is just perfect for early morning stops after a run or walk.
Tami Magnin
The restaurant was empty when we visited one Thursday morning so its hard to judge service when we were the only ones there to be served. Breakfast was good, with the poached egg done perfectly and the portions were quite generous. The views are beautiful and the waiters were friendly.

Went for lunch Feb 24/16... On arrival there was an fly in my wine, sparkling water was flat, was ad dirty peace of paper ubder my lemon as i full my glas it came up under the lemon, worst of all, food was very bad,i had trio of fish, witch not only looked bad,but tasted awful best yet....i have food poisoning, is very sick, since last night, went to the doc because i felt like dieing.... will never ever as a local go there again... Ever... beautiful view with bad sickening food..
Konrad Davidtz
Had the most amazing pork belly. Succulent, tender and very tasty.... We sat outside almost on the rocks with breathtaking views of the ocean and Table Mountain....Jamie served us and her service was incredible. Thank you On the Rock's for an amazing experience....
Cara Attewell
What in incredible view, especially with sunset! Our waiter, Maxwel was extremely friendly and gladly got some water for our pup. It's a great place to walk to if your in Blouberg area and is pet friendly!!! We had the linefish, which was cooked beautifully. Would highly recommend the food here.
Derick Downing
Had a absolutely fantastic view. The food was excellent. The service was very good. I will definitely return. Only request I would make is if at all possible to add Craft beers to the menu #FantasticExperience
Jade Hill
It was my first time at on the rocks. On arrival they hadn't changed our booking in which we called to change the time to two hours later , thankfully they could accommodate us. The service was terrible but I guess it is Cape Town which according to me is no excuse for bad service. The food was good . I had muscles for starters and shared a seafood platter. Besides for the service it was a good overall experience.
Colin Spies
In terms of placement and a somewhere to have dinner, this place exceeds in both areas. On the Rocks in blouberg is a gem. Rump steak, lamb shank and a seafood platter for two was the order of the day. Rump was tender, lamb was falling apart and the seafood was fresh. Service was friendly and the waiter knew his menu. I would recommend this place to anybody who is looking for a place to chill out and have sundowners or enjoy a fantastic meal. Either way you will be doing it 20ft from the atlantic ocean.
Ayrton Da Silva
Service: terrible, although the waiter was friendly, many basic elements were left unattended. For instance, we had no napkins or utensils and many tables were left dirty for long periods of time - making the place seem dirty. We had to call a waiter to bring us menus and order. <br/><br/>Food: the food was terrible value - as the portion sizes were tiny. In the "signature" salad the amount of Parma ham was very little for the price. The butternut salad had 3 small pieces of butternut. The catch of the day, which we were told was "Cape Salmon" was definitely not Salmon and only tasted of butter. <br/><br/>On the whole, this was a poor dining experience with poor service, a far over priced menu and a tacky venue.
Laura-kim Le Roux
We had such a lovely date night here. Nice, chilled vibe. Menu was small which is actually nice and the food was really good. The desserts looked amazing and but we were just too full. It's a beautiful spot right on the beach - ideal to watch the sunset. You do need to book in holiday season though
Sash Gaffoor
Been a year since we were there but the food and service were excellent then<br/><br/>Seafood is fresh and atmosphere relaxing in the day and a romantic ambience at night.<br/><br/>Highly recommended
Mel Woudberg
Had breakfast here this morning with a business partner. Had the Alaskan breakfast, which was devine. The view is amazing as well, but I am not too keen on the decor.
Chanyn-Lee Zeelie
Beautiful location. Disappointing service. We were very excited to have a splendid dinner at a restaurant we have been to for years. We were not welcomed whatsoever. The service was slow, no butter served with bread, waiting for ice, etc. The setting out competes the service. Good food!

I just have to say a very big THANK YOU to Wayne and Jason at On The Rocks. I celebrated my birthday there last Sunday. We had 18 guests in total. Wayne ensured that everything was in order before we arrived. We had great views, and the table looked very special. The whole occasion ran beautifully. Jason was absolutely superb with his service and outstanding customer rapport. Everyone's breakfast arrived at the same time, and the food was just delicious. Every plate was presented beautifully. The music was outstanding - in fact the whole experience made it my best birthday ever. My guests left very satisfied and with lovely memories. Wayne and Jason - thanks so much. That was really a very special occasion and you certainly went way beyond what is normally expected. Kind regardsJulian Raubenheimer

Look its got one of the best views -no doubt about that and the decor is sort of Joeys/Roman..sort of semi - swish but slightly tired and dated. Our waiter was very good. <br/>But I found the menu distinctly uninteresting and quite pricey for what it is. The wines were exorbitant. <br/>We were served warm fresh rolls which were very nice but a bit on the sweet side- too much added sugar. <br/>Most of our party had the line fish which looked quite ordinary and was served without much presentation. I had a pasta dish which was large and very uninspiring. I can't even remember what it was supposed to be! <br/>We were there for Sunday lunch and there were plenty of diners who looked bored by a long lunch and sleepy from a bottle of expensive wine. <br/>Maybe it was just me, but I wasn't impressed and the view alone won't entice me back.
Kamal Naran
I would have rated higher but unfortunately there was no crayfish which i was really looking forward to having. Other than that, the food was absolutely delicious! The waitress was great! Very friendly and interactive. She recommended the tuna steak which was so good! And my calamari started was the best i've had in a long time! And then theres the view. Just breath-taking!
Tom Van Vuren
Due to the fact that some of the items on the menu weren't available, I couldn't give a higher rating. However, the waitress was incredibly gracious and knowledgeable about the menu. She recommended the salmon and tuna, which was spectacular. Accompanied with a breathtaking view, the night turned out to be one of the best.
Maddy Brown
Just by driving past it looks inviting, and we just couldn't resist. So we popped in for dessert....which was an absolute wow. The food also looked amazing. The atmosphere is cosy with stunning views of table mountain and Robin island 😀

Overpriced under deliver<br/><br/>Tourist hot spot<br/><br/>Took friends for lunch [Birthday treat]<br/><br/>Ordered 2 x Seafood platters at R700 each, apparently serves 2 each?????? 3 prawns, little tiny piece of fish, one crayfish, 3 mussels, 3 potato wedges and a slice of tomato = R700 note everything comes in 3`s but it is platter for 2???? You make the sum?? I was very embarrassed at what we got served and it left a bad taste in my mouth. <br/><br/>Location - 10/10 absolutely stunning on the beach! <br/>Food - 2/10

Had a lovely dinner with high quality food. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Didn't wait long for your food and we were a rather large group of people. Will happily return again.
John De Beer
Had an amazing lunch with friend. I heard they do weddings. Absolutely incredible setting and awesome menu that's affordable. Great friendly service from their staff. Will be back.

Just came for an breakfast to celebrate my birthday. What a disaster we ordered a simple continental breakfast and was so disappointing.<br/>Croissants was old then replaced by an fresh raw one.
Joshua Coetzee
Nasiefa: went for my birthday lunch, the venue and service was stunning, but quite disappointed in my meal, Lamb Shank. Was the toughest meat ever, probably way over-cooked. They were however nice enough to not charge for the disappointing dish.
Cheryl Van Straaten Smit
Disappointed with my meal this evening. Firstly there was a hair in the butter. Then my main was disappointing. Ordered Madagascan Kingklip. Mash was lumpy and had a large piece of potato in it. The fish was on the dry side and swamped with sauce. It doesn't really match the price tag. I was with people as a guest so I didn't want to make a fuss, but I won't be back.

We had a wonderful lunch at On the Rocks. The view is unbelievable making it the perfect lunch time spot!<br/>For starters I had an amazing baked brie dish! The oysters were also another popular order. We had a great rump steak for main course but it was a little overdone.<br/><br/>Dessert was a little disappointing. We ordered the crème brulee with a really perfect crème but unfortunately the sugar on top was not a bit close to being a brulee. The top was just granules of sugar and not caramelised at all.
Monya Pelser
Such a Cold environment, food was very disappointing frankly we were quite scared to order any dessert based on the mains.. The view during the day must be quite a treat.. But the restaurant.. Not at all. Wont be returning sorry

A few years back, my husband had some colleagues down from Germany of which one is crazy about seafood. We heard great things about On The Rocks so decided to take them here. We had a great time. The food was delicious! My husband's colleagues ordered the seafood platter and we ordered from the a la carte menu. I would however, say that this a place for special occasions because the seafood platter alone cost R1000. Its probably much more now. Having said that, the service was impeccable and the experience was decadent ☺

Had dinner with my husband last night at On The Rocks. What a disappointment from start to finish! The standard of this restaurant has dropped terribly. From an uncomfortable stark stiff environment, no music playing, lights turned on bright... it all got worse! Food was tasteless, ordered lamb taurine... Bland off putting huge portion with a huge pile of onion rings on top! Ox tail for my husband, so bland with no flavor at all. After sending the food back we ordered cheese cake and chocolate fondant... What a disaster! Cheese cake had that old fridge taste to it, chocolate fondant had collapsed and was burnt. Restaurant manager apologized and said she was so embarrassed that the food was that bad! She admitted that herself! It was a Friday night at month end and the restaurant was less than half full! Now we know why! Sad!
Wanda Geldenhuys
Was very disappointed with the food and service was very slow and they are a bit pricy for what you get. The view is very nice though but I will not visit them again.
LeMarc Gouws
This is a great place for breakfast or even the mid day lunch or Sundowners.. Great view of the sea as it is virtually as close as you can get to the water.. Nice comfortable setting, with a log fire and great food options with good prices. Impressed and will go back here anytime when in the area.
Nikki Tromp
We visited this stunning location for an impromptu lunch today - wow wow wow!<br/><br/>The service was out of this world, from the time we walked in to the time we walked out. Our waitress gave us the best service I think I've ever received. The food was impeccable - 3 deep fried cheese balls for starters, which were perfectly crispy and not at all oily. I had the duck as my main (which was so soft and moist on the inside and beautifully caramelized on the outside) and the roast veggies and infused rice were simply lovely. My dad had the lamb - so soft and moist that it came straight off the bone (YUM). My sister had the crumbed calamari - perfectly seasoned and cooked and not at all oily or rubbery. <br/><br/>For dessert we shared a creme brûlée (possibly the best I've ever had) and a berry panna cotta (incredibly more-ish). <br/><br/>All the food was presented beautifully and the portions were more than fair. Awesome value for money!<br/><br/>5 star service. 5 star food. 5 star experience. Well done, On The Rocks!
Jess Styles
Really amazing views of the sea with a nice cosy restaurant. They can be a little pricey but the food is really good. I love their french toast with berry compote for breakfast! Quite the nice romantic dinner venue too!
Juanita Rene Stears
Nice place! Amazing sea view.... On the rocks! :-) warm and cozy for winter as well, we had breakfast, and it was delicious! Service good be topped up a notch.
Debbie Coulson
We went to On the Rocks for a special occasion lunch with our extended family-11 of us and loved the setting- a magnificent view of Table Mountain! The service was good and the food-I had the Cape Salmon - was excellent.
Heather Charnock
this use to be my favourite restaurant in the whole of cape town, it made mouth watering steak and i couldn't wait for my next visit. then i am guessing it changes hands, management or chefs because the next visit i had literally one month after my previous one was a shocking ordeal. i haven't ventured back and i am really saddened by this entire ordeal. i hope my faith will be restored one day
Allan Moita
This restaurant couldn't be more disappointing. The furniture, the floor, the staff, the mediocre food, the absolutely awful wine list... Everything!<br/><br/>Not even the view could save it. <br/><br/>
Kalay Maistry
Love the view from this restaurant when the weather is good, it's simply spectacular!<br/>And it is the reason to visit. You sit almost on a wave with Table Mountain as the backdrop. We usually pop in before departure the Cape enroute to the airport. The food is good. The service a tad slow, but when ending a visit to the Motherland that's not such a bad thing. The grilled calamari is always a safe bet - fresh and tasty as one mentally prepares to leave behind the holidays and head back to work.<br/>Will return, that view and a cold glass of Chardonnay is hard to resist!
Stephanie Van Straten
Absolutely extraordinary. Gourmet food for a very reasonable price. The view is out of this world, if the weather is good sitting outside is delightful. The service was impeccable. <br/>This place is definitely one of my favourite.
Alicia Smit
The food here was absolutely delicious! I just wish that they would remove the shells from the prawns and mussels as it's quite difficult to remove unless you use your hands.<br/>I must just say that we had a steady stream of gnats and flies all through our dinner which we did not appreciate. <br/>Over all - good service and great seafood.
Bronwyn Groenewald
We have been there for breakfast outside. Great view. Breakfast is also great. Also been there for dinner which is then more of a fine dining experience. Service was great as well
Charné Banger
I love On The Rocks and often go their for my birthday or my anniversary with my boyfriend. On The Rocks serves AMAZING seafood! It's so fresh and delicious that we keep coming back because of the good quality of their food. The waiters are friendly but not too pushy. The view is incredible, especially if you go their for dinner and see the sunset. The food is worth the price and the atmosphere is comfortable and warming.
Darren Franks
Lovely setting, staff ok, food not great. Mussels overcooked, tuna undercooked, sides rushed (and therefore underdone). Why use Wagu beef in a meat ball (and if you're going to do that then make sure it's moist)
Dana Booth
Great setting on the beach with an amazing view. Service could have been better for the prices they are charging. I had the duck which was delicious, but came swimming in a liquid orange sauce. Will definitely try them again
SvN_lovedining
I think the best thing about this restaurant is that it is On the rocks. Being a nature girl and livening the beach, it is awesome to dine so close to the beach. They also have a outside light which lights up the beach so you can see it at night.<br/><br/>The food was very delicious - I loved how the calamari was prepared. The steak was also yummy and big portion.<br/><br/>They also have a winter special which I think is good - R300 for 2 people for 3 course meal.<br/><br/>
Bev Moss-Reilly
A firm favourite! A place of special sentimental significance where I married the love of my life.<br/>The function coordinator was so organised efficient and professional that she was a pleasure to deal with and all ran smoothly. Its a place that my spouse and I visit often due to the significance it has to us.<br/>However it is always very much enjoyed.<br/>The décor is superb, ambience extremely pleasant be it breakfast lunch or dinner! The food is always very good and presentation magnificent. This restaurant is really in its own league - its a special occasion place, a place to hold a special function or event and definitely a place that is classy elegant and sophisticated.<br/>The setting and location alone sets it apart as a firm favourite. Set on Blouberg beach literally "on the rocks" allows one to feast ones eyes on the majestic mountain, the ocean and the world famous Robben Island.<br/>Im never disappointed by the sole or the fillet steak. However its a great breakfast place too. Certainly a place to unwind first with sundowners outside on the deck where there are wooden bench tables and chairs. Smarter fine dining sets the inside tone.<br/>Its an excellent choice for breakfast - Ive been through most of the breakfast menu and thoroughly enjoyed whatever I have had.<br/>Consistent and reliable - never disappoints. A place to propose or a place to impress!<br/>A favourite for sure!
Yolande
We live in Blouberg, so have been to On The Rocks on several occasions. It's not cheap, but then again, it's not somewhere you'd go every day. The location is just incredible and you are literally ON THE ROCKS, with the waves crashing almost by your feet. Service and food is fantastic too. We usually go for things like birthdays or anniversaries.
Tracy Poulter
These peeps are a bit on the pricey side with their dinners which yes the times that I have had dinner there was fantastic but there are other places in the area with great views that have the same dishes for a little less! <br/><br/>However it is a completely different story when it comes to their breakfast menu! They have absolutely amazing breakfasts for really great prices! I would recommend them for the brilliant view 1st thing in the morning and a very yummy breakfast! We have never had bad service there not even when we are the 1st customers of the day! On the rocks is another one of my favourite places that make just the perfect Eggs Benedict for my taste. <br/><br/>BONUS POINTS: Great wedding venue too!
Samuel C
Visited On the Rocks as at 2 December 2013 for a company lunch. Had the seared tuna dish as the main meal. Two other colleagues also ordered the same meal. All three of us suffered diarrhoea overnight.
