Review Ocean Basket Lakefield - Benoni

The food was really good and the staff were very friendly. It was one of the tastiest ocean baskets. The only problem I had was that within the 45 minutes I spent there, I had about 4 different people coming to see if everything was ok a total of 6 or 7 times. It does become annoying when you trying to enjoy your meal but need to respond with a full mouth 😂. But other than that, I would highly recommend.

Fantastic service from both waitron and management. Made us feel welcome yet was not a hindrance. Food quality was amazing with the sushi chef's expertise coming second in SA. Definitely a restaurant to visit.

Food is always fresh and cooked to perfection! Staff are also very attentive. Often during winter the managers welcome you with a shot of sherry. There is definitely a personal touch.

I absolutely love this Ocean Basket!! The service is really good and the waitress we had was really nice and had a good humour. We took take away the other day and they were really nice about that too!! Will definitely go there again!!

Had a great lunch. Nice, clean friendly staff. Had the best fish and chips in the area there. I belief the restaurant is under new management.

This is by far the best Ocean Basket around the East Rand. The food is fresh and the staff are super friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for a good plate of seafood.

We visited Ocean Basket Lakefield because a friend was singing there. We arrived and two people we knew, called us to sit with them at their table. They were eating already. We ordered drinks (sangria and a pina colada) and then also a Meze platter not too long after. We waited and waited, and waited some more for our drinks. We eventually started asking our waitress and she said drinks were coming. Keep in mind; they were not even busy at all – probably about 4 tables. In the end our platter arrived, and still no drinks!! We were told they are coming. which happened well into our platter only. The sangria was crazy sweet. We did not send it back because new drinks would have probably arrived after our food was finished. At the end the evening we asked the owner and the answer: they added Coke to the sangria. COKE?! Since when do you add coke to sangria? I even tried finding a sangria recipe with coke on Google, but they don’t exist!! Also, no little starter breads for us either before our meal. I thought this was a standard thing at Ocean Basket? I know it’s bad for me, but I love them. Would we have received them if we sat at our own table? After the meal we settled our main bill and then our friend decided a last round would be in order. I ordered a Kahlua coffee and my partner an Irish one, the others Dom Pedro’s. Before our drinks even arrived the owner came to us and asked if she can bring our bill because they wanted to close. We did not plan to stay all night, but that is just plain chasing your customers away! Anyway, so we paid without arguing and waited for the drinks to arrive. My Kahlua coffee arrived without any cream on top. I sent it back and they returned it with cream. Apart for the chip in the glass, it was perfect. The Irish coffee however had a lot to be desired… Consistency in presentation is crucial. It had some kind of white mess in the bottom of the glass, the cream filled almost half the glass, and the coffee was cold. I don't complain easily, but this is the worst Ocean Basket I have ever been to!

Total disregard for disabled patrons. Laugh at them and management refuse to take action against the staff, even threatening legal action when asked to do so. Will never go there again

Always good service... good food ... entertainment on Friday night enjoyable. Friendly staff.

The food should taste the same or very close in all Ocean Baskets but this is unfortunately one of the branches where the food is not great. Sushi is very badly prepared and dry.. maybe it was my experience both times I ordered sushi or they need to get someone who knows how to make sushi.<br/>Cocktails is a BIG, FAT, NO as in at all OB branches.<br/><br/>Update: I recently ordered sushi to go at this branch and it was delicious. I am not sure if they have a new sushi chef but whoever made the sushi... hats off to you... it was really yum and I will order from here again the next time I am in the area...

Was apprehensive when a friend suggested we meet for small bite after reading reviews on Zomato and not being from the area. I was thankfully pleasantly suprised. The owners & staff were attentative. The food was delicious , fresh and tasty. This place deserves a better rating than depicted. Look forward to visiting again soon. The Seared Salmon a must.

One of the less inspiring Ocean Baskets. Sushi was good and the mezze platter tasty. Sadly the kingklip was undercooked. Prawns however were delicious.<br/>Service was a little all over the place despite restaurant being mostly empty - waiters meandering about, owner/franchisee running about yeliing at staff. All a bit unprofessional.

Friday lunchtime in a busy shopping center. After my lunch, I fully understand why almost every table was unoccupied. <br/>The review requires at least 140 characters but the less said the better.

07.05.2016 Discovered we have more fishing spots in the neighbourhood. Decided to give this branch a try as we couldn't decide on food. It's a nice big open space it's a lot bigger than I thought. Friendly staff on arrival.<br/><br/>I looked at the new sushi options and ordered the calamari gunkan with the cheesy garlic prawn starter. My mom took the fish and chips combo with prawns. Even though the food was nice it just wasn't as wow as our favourite branch none of the branches can top the emperors one as yet.<br/><br/>The sushi was good and full of flavour. Something different to try.

What an experience, waiters friendly and effecient (Terrence was on point) sushi was so fresh and delicious. The sushi plate was the same as the pics with decor and all. Met manager and owners(Thanks Gary) .Platters was full of food and extremely tasty. Our new OB of choice

Stopped by for lunch, had the platter for one, food was well prepared, generous portion of fish and calamari. This is a new outlet in Lakefield, the food and service have impressed me. It will be my Ocean Basket of choice going forward.
