Review Europa - Bedfordview

The Food Musketeer
28.07.2018 While waiting for the draw to take place at Bedford, we decided to have breakfast. I have noticed alot of the Europa branches slowly disappearing, so i was happy that this one is still surviving. They have a great selection of food to choose from. The Rustic Hash breakfast immediately caught my eye (because you know.... carbs and garlic go together) A Poached Egg on top of Garlic, Herbed Potatoe and Bacon Hash, with a Tomato and Cream Sauce drizzled with Basil Pesto and Rocket. Delicious, i could have added a bit of green chilli oil for some extra kick but it was good as is. My sister had the Spanish style Baked Eggs i.e. Frittata baked Eggs, spiced with Red Pepper Flakes, Peas, Zucchini, Garlic, Onions and fresh Coriander with grated Mozarella and toasted Ciabatta, except she asked for NO peas. Really good, even my Cappucino with cream was piping hot. Yes the food did take quite a while, but i can happily say it was worth the wait. Shingie our waiter kept us informed of our foods arrival :-) Would definitely go back and try some of the main meals or even the cakes, it looked pretty Yum. #TheFoodMusketeer #TheFoodMusketeerEats #TheFoodMusketeerDrinks #TFMEuropa

Great place. Wonderfull pizzas

The food was so fresh and alive. We had to go back again and again. Wonderful variety on the menu. Friendly and efficient staff. Ambience and decor is really so pleasant. What a treat!
Aidan Rabinowitz
I really enjoyed the service and atmosphere but the food was a bit lacking in portion size, imagination and extra ingredients added such as garnish on a hamburger. I ordered the bunless lamb burger, which was basic in presentation but quite tasty.

I like the place as I can hangout there by myself and read or just chill after gym which is a few steps away as is the Ster Kinekor cinema. Service has improved. Food is above average. Quieter these days but can be busy on Saturday mornings.

This particular Europa has been a personal favourite of mine for as long as I can remember. The setting is warm and relaxed, and out of the hub of the main Bedford Centre shops. I love to make use of the outside seating as it offers just the right amount of sunlight and warmth. The coffee is outstanding, with a robustness hard to find at other establishments. The menu has an assortment of options to choose from with each meal presented with a flair and style that is simple, yet sophisticated. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and attentive no matter how busy or quiet the setting is and go out of their way to ensure the customer is happy. The menu is moderately priced and you can find your perfect meal whether it be a quick and healthy snack to go, or if you have a hefty appetite and need a to wind down with a good belly-filler. Additional perks is that it is wheelchair friendly, easily accessible from the lower level of Bedford Centre and has access to clean public toilets directly opposite the restaurant. You can be assured you've made a great choice if you choose to stop off here.

Good food & fairly good service. Took a while in the beginning to get service though.
Samantha Brown
My favourite Europa branch. Friendly staff, good food, yummiest chocolate cake. Wallet didn't complain but the waist line is!
Jennie Browning
Food is always good, service excellent.
Andrew Masterton
The food is good. Great value for money
Vanessa Jones

Large menu with a big choìce. Generally food ìs more than acceptable. Staff are friendly and customer oriented.

This place brings back memories... I remember spending mornings drinking coffee and eating breakfast (in my case and at that time, breakfast was always cake 😃) it still remains one of my favourite places to visit and the quality and freshness of the food and the service has not changed. Europa, it is always a pleasure 😊

Casual place to meet for a quick meal or a bad cappuccino. Yes, I’ll go back because it’s convenient but improvements are needed. Coffee should taste like coffee not hot milk.
Wayne
We tried Europa cafe at OR Tambo, what an utter disappointment. Disinterested and unfriendly staff, half the menu items not available and an incorrect order. Will not use again.
Kayla Groth
The pasta is soooooo good. Perfect little restaurant to go to before or after watching a movie. Preferably before so you're not full from the popcorn. The food comes quickly and the staff are attentive.

Whilst the waitron was friendly and quick, I’m afraid the food was a disappointment. Both dishes were tasteless. The Eggs Benedict was smothered in sauce and the bacon was greasy. The chicken dish which was a sandwich with chicken and avo had no taste at all and the amount of rocket was overkill. Very disappointed and I’m only giving 3 stars based on the service.

amazing atmosphere and the menu had a wide choice of light meals and cooling refreshments, super service and the little ones can go and play on the facilties and even go and watch a movie 5 star guys

Where does one start, especially when there are so many great things about this little place. I have been going to Europa for many years now and will continue to do so for many to come.

This restaurant is set in the perfect place in Bedford and just allows for so much enjoyment. The staff is super friendly and those that know me make sure to come greet by name and always with a smile.

Being a chef I am very picky about where I eat, but I know that I never have to worry when it comes to this place. They always have the best variety and make sure that their food is always above standard. Their pizza is definitely their strong point and will have you itching for more. Whether you are looking for a light meal or for a stuff your face kind of one. This is the place to be.

I do and always will recommend this place to anyone looking for fantastic service, great food and an atmosphere to live for.

:)

I've been to Europa a few times and have always found the service as well as the food excellent. Their gourmet milkshakes are the best I've ever tasted and the food is always of high standards!
Back in the days, it used to have one of the best alfredos in town! Now, I can't say the same. Last time I've ordered it, the sauce came Grey and it did not look appealing at all. Unfortunately I had to return it. Today, I decided to give them a 2nd chance and ordered an alfredo. Guess what? Big disappointment, buyers remorse! Pasta was blend, no salt at all. An arrabiata was also ordered and no chili at all. This is not proper Italian, and, unfortunately no 3rd chance will be given at this time. Not recommended :(

This has always been my go-to place, I come here all the time for dinner with friends and family. Love the choices they have for vegetarians. They always add new foods once in a while, which helps keep the good vibe going.
Darren
This place only survives because of its foot trade from the mall. There lack in service and delivery is where they fall very short. I had the breakfast which arrived cold, everybody else who order also received a cold breakfast. The manager attended to us but only offered a coffee on the house, I'm not to sure if that is going to fix the issue for there other customers. This is the last time I will waste good money on an sub average breakfast.

I visited this place quite a while back where I had the mac n cheese. Now I decided to pay another visit and start writing my review. Well, firstly, this is a great location and considering they had football on, it was a given. Service was good and the pasta, well finally found something very healthy. My pasta was green and although it was tasteless initially, a bit of seasoning made it taste better and wholesome. if you are looking for a get together, this is one option

Europa is an elegant little cafe in the newer section of Bedford, and the outside seating has quite a nice romantic setting. We stopped by for a catch up session with an old friend and had some coffee and a few snacks.

Margherita Pizza: not a great pizza. The base was chewy and doughy and the cheese was way too solid. Their pizza is definitely not their strong point.

Carrot Cake: this was quite a standard carrot cake, it didn't have a fresh, homemade taste at all and seemed quite generic. The icing was thick and very very sweet. I wasn't a huge fan of it.

Overall a nice setting for having coffee with friends and from the other reviews I've read the food seems to be quite decent, just avoid the pizzas.
Anele Sikakane
The food is decent and the service is good. The carrot cake is one of my favorites. I enjoy sitting in the outside area especially on a warm sunny day.

I popped in to this Europa the other day to grab a coffee while I tackled some emails. Out of all the restaurants on the square this particular little shop stood out to me as all the tables outside were full and it looked very busy - a good indication that they are doing something right.

The waitress who served me upon my arrival was very helpful in getting me a table followed by a very tasty cappuccino. After a short while I decided to grab a little breakfast too as everything I saw coming out of the kitchen looked amazing.

I ordered a plate of their Rustic Breakfast Hash as it sounded amazing and I over heard another table going on about it.

My breakfast was exceptional. It was fulling, tasty and erupted with fresh flavour. The combo of roasted potatoes with bacon and Napoletana sauce was amazing and every bite was better than the last.

It's been quite some time since I've had a breakfast as good as that and based on this short experience I will definitely be back again soon for some more.

If you're looking for a great spot to grab some breakfast or even just to sip on a coffee and read through the morning paper I would definitely recommend checking out the Bedford Europa. The whole place has a great vibe in the morning and I'm sure this carries through the whole day too.
The menu description of meals do not match the actual quality presented. Exceptionally average food and half-hearted service from staff, with no apology from the manager when food was sent back.
Patricia Hutchison
Enjoying a kiwi and sparkling water drink. Love the fresh ideas here for drinks. Staff is friendly. Nice and cool area to sit outside. Only thing is the muffins aren't fresh. But the food is phenomenal.
Tanya
Enjoyed a healthy dinner for a girls night out before catching a movie. I enjoyed the lazio, grilled chicken breasts glazed a balsamic and lemon reduction served with a side salad and seasonal roast vegetables. The chicken was tender and juicy, the veg done to perfection and the salad fresh. It's a filling meal and value for money! Friendly staff that were very amenable to our requests.

Good place for a quick coffee or meal. Service was alright. My plate seemed to have just been washed but not dried. There were water spots and streaks which spoiled the look. Pawpaw was not fresh. Too ripe and not nice at all. The nuts were nicely toasted and the Greek yoghurt was okay. Not the best.
Courtney StarBerry
Europa is the perfect place to stop for a quick lunch in the Bedford Centre if you are looking for somewhere quite with a café styled vibe. The waiting staff are friendly, efficient and eager to please. The menu is vast and offers something for everyone (even for picky eaters such as myself).
I absolutely adore the mango granita which is flavourful and cool which is perfect for a hot day. I have tried the crumbed chicken strips with zucchini fries (the zucchini fries are to die for) and the Daniele pasta, both were delicious. The pastas 'half portion' is massive and definitely offers great value for money.
Whenever we go to Europa everyone is always satisfied with their meals and the staff try their best to keep us satisfied. We will definitely be returning soon.

A Regina Pizza will set you back odd R80 and you can expect to receive sandwich loaf ham slices which taste almost as delightful as dog food.

A restaurant that prides itself on quality food certainly doesn't seem to understand that quality food is produced using quality ingredients!
What happened to the good old days of authentic shaved ham?

Needless to say I will not be ordering pizza from Europa again.
I refused to pay for the pizza as I couldn't stomach it, somehow it was still on my bill and finally the issue was settled with a free cappuccino and no need to pay for the food. Service was good. But it is still embarrassing for staff to serve food when the customer may take it out on the wait staff even when it isn't their fault what the chef does.
Arshad Karim
Poor service. Average food. Really unpleasant experience. Visited on a Sunday afternoon and everything was slow. Truly shitty place. Rather order Mr Delivery and eat in.
This place needs a shake up.

I thought the food was really good, service was pretty good too, the food didn't take too long either. I would definitely recommend it. Overall a great experience.

I often meet up with my girl friends at Europa for either lunch or dinner, last night I met up with them for dinner. I had a seafood pasta, which was overcooked and chewy and gave me food poisoning!! Big thumbs down!! While the rest of the night was enjoyable, I rate that highly but due to getting food poisoning I am very disappointed!
Jeanique Pretorius
Definitely worth a visit. Fresh produce and vibrant feel to the place. Easy to find and has seating in and outside.
Ordered the pasta and have to say I was alittle disappointed. Lacked flavour and that something. Portion size was nice, maybe more cream would have helped. But nonetheless I will return.

Probaly my favorite eating place in Bedford centre. My favorite meal has to be the tra-Torino oh my word what a yummy chicken mayonnaise tramazzini!! I use to frequently order the pizzas there but found the last couple of times to be a little soggy when i add the artichoke! Nevertheless Verity has to be the best waitress there! She is so friendly and always makes our experience worth while!
Robert Tony Yao
Very good vibe and amazingly good pizza, and pretty much all items on the menu. suppose for a place in bedford centre if your quality is not up to standard you will be out of there soon, so as eaters we are definitely benefiting from the competition between all the restaurants.
Natalie Jayne Benic
I can't say this place blew me away. The setting is wonderful, but the food very bland! Had to really churn that salt grinder. My husband had a chicken type of pasta, he said very bland and chicken dry and tasteless. I had the steak , Ag it wasn't wonderful - also very bland!
Fawn Rogers
I love Europa, they always seem to have the right meal for my craving. Unfortunately they no longer have soups on the menu which I rather enjoyed. I recently visited the Bedford Europa and it was really lovely. It was a lot more modern than some of the other branches I have visited and the staff were fantastic. We each had a salad and they really hit the spot!
Natasha Lutz
Met a friend for breakfast. Service was ok but I am astounded at the little poached egg on big toast with nothing else on the biggest white plate. The kitchen don't know what a medium poached means, first raw then over cooked. I marked 1 point higher for the cappacino which was good.
Damndaniel63
Decent food enjoyable vibe really like the bedford centre square :) will be going back to try some good tasty food. 3.5 / 5 always room for improvement.

We went to this restaurant with two friends, but unfortunately it turned out not to be a good choice.

Ambiance: This restaurant is very crowded, very busy and extremely noisy as it is located in a middle part of the shopping center.

Menu options: Although the menu is not limiting you to anything, it seems that they specialise in pizzas and pastas.

Price: Competitve, maybe a little bit expensive.

Food: I ordered a bazil pasta and I asked the waiter about this. Well...I could not taste the cream they added, the pasta did not taste well, it was dripping with oil, and too blunt. I was not impressed with this option. However, I wanted something else at first and by the time we ordered, only then the waiter informed me that they do not have avocados (could he not tell us beforehand?). Was it not for the salt, pepper and chillies on the table, the pasta would have been worse.

Portions: Some people ordered half portions and other full portions. Except for the price, I could not see any difference between the two options.

Service: Terrible! We waited about half an hour and then no one helped us, so we had to get up and drag a waiter to our table. Everything took long, drink orders were wrong, and it was a mission again to get the bill and pay.

This is obviously a popular restaurant with hood ratings, but I will think twice before going there again.

I've always had a good time here. The atmosphere is lively, the service is above average and so is the food. Great desserts and coffee as well.
Micaela Lo Russo
Popped in for lunch here, the service was good, and the pizza were delicious, recommend this restaurant if you are hungry while doing some shopping at Bedford Centre
Italian Offspring
When you Walk to the restaurant Europa it is like looking at a hot blonde nice to look at but inside eish the food was terrible no taste whatever the nice thing about Europa is that it's in Bedford center and right next to the movies and that's all I had a wrap it was soggy and terrible the cappuccinos were even worse basically water
Big Fat Italian
The original Europa was located in Orange Grove, the little Italy of Johannesburg back in the day, it was a destination store for all things Italian from the pasta to the bread to cured meats etc...you wanted to eat and cook Italian you went to Europa. Now....it saddens me to see what has become of this brand, loss of identity, loss of quality the service is horrendous the list of bad things is endless. Europa has now become just another SA style wanna be everything but in reality is nothing. When you can't get the simple cappuccino right you know that you have come to the wrong place. Only 2 words can truly express the experience we just had....Una Merda! #unamerda
Bleedingears
A nice breakfast menu with some decent alternatives. Their flavoured lattes are also quite tasty. Not a huge fan of the rest of the menu though.
Gabriela Taryn Isaacs
Stunning food and drinks. The food was absolutely exceptional. I ordered a new item on their menu, a pasta dish with calamari and it was creamy and delicious. It is pleasant to sit outside the restaurant in the sun . You have a view of the square and can admire art from a distance from the art gallery situated close to the restaurant .
Jimmy Nicolaou
I hadn't been here for a while and wanted to try it again for a light lunch.
I think they were just having a bad day.... We ordered a Giselle chicken salad and chicken livers starter portion.
The meal took over an hour to arrive. When it did eventually arrive, the chicken livers were just average and I had to send back my salad as the lettuce were withered and shriveled and it looked limp and very unappealing. I called the manager over who immediately apologized and replaced the salad very quickly. What a difference, this salad was fresh and crisp and I enjoyed it.
Why couldn't they do that the first time?

Kylie
I really like this restaurant, the decor is authentic and looks very Italian. The plan is always comfortably busy. The service is always fast and good. The menu is fresh, new and gets your mouth watering.. You kind of want to order a few dishes so you don't miss out. I enjoyed trying the Marina pizza & Opera pizza .. Absolutely loved the Marina!!!
Lee-Ann
What an amazing experience. The menu is amazing and the food out does the descriptions! The service was good and there is a great atmosphere, decor is very continental and relaxing. Very good choice for any occasion
Annabel
A great place to go to for a quick meal before or after your movie. Great light lunches and dinners too and their thin based, wood oven Pizzas are delicious. Great service and lovely atmosphere
Thando Kgaphola
The plan was for a cup of coffee while we had our meeting. The service and attention to detail made me curious if the menu marched. Now it's pretty hard to screw up a toasted sandwich and chips, and that was average but my waiter earned every cent of his tip pitty I didn’t catch his name because he was the MVP.
Monique Pereira
If you're looking for a refreshing freezochino this summer, Europa in Bedford Centre is the place for you! Their food is also fresh and yummy and it is a casual and laid back environment. My go-to meal has to be the 'Romeo & Juliet' salad.
Renus Muller
Been there a number of times with a chill in the air, and even though most of the seating is outdoors it is still quite snoozy with all the heaters.

I find the menu more interesting than most.

Also, what makes the restaurant nice is that it serves as the entrance hall to the cinema niveau, but if you watch the late night show you probably will not have a snack there since the kitchen will have closed by then.

Service is always good.
Eleni
Europa is by far one of my favorite spots at Bedford Centre. Not only is the view a pleasant one, but they have impeccable service. Moreover, their food and drinks are incredible. I've been there a good couple of times and I can vouch that it is one place that everyone should visit! :)
Kenan Germaner
Europa never disappoints! Cafe style comfort food, generous portions and good value for money. Friendly wait staff and a laid back vibe make it a good venue for any time of day.
Epicurean Republic
One of the better Europa's in Gauteng. I often drop in for a quick meal and a cappuccino. They revamped the restaurant in 2014 which has made a huge improvement. I recommend the Ada Salad or one of their wraps.
Nicola Fox
The food was average but the waitress was am absoulute superstar, my food was cold and she was accommodating, constantly smile and made the whole experience worth it. 👍 I value good service as 65% of my experience.
Nicky Visentin
I have been here several times and each time, I am MORE disappointed. Service is horrible, they brought us white wine when we asked for rosé and button mushrooms instead of black due to stock issues. Service was slow but friendly. Can't say I thought it was worth it.
Gary Greenberg
I have visited this branch of the Europa chain numerous times in the past and it is good for a quick bite, casual meal or business meeting. The food is quite enjoyable and the service is sometimes disappointing even though they do get quite busy.

I find their vegetarian selection more than adequate compared to other chains around the country. I good sandwitch, pasta or pizza goes down well here accompanied with a few coffees. The portion sizes are good and their food pricing is well aligned.

This cafe is well positioned in the newer section of the shopping centre right next to the movies which makes it extremely convenient.

I will be visiting here in again in the near future as their food, cleanliness and quality is consistant.
Pakman
Just went for a light meal before an early movie. Wrap was very tasty, if a bit messy. Fell apart after the first bite. Service was slow. Some wait staff walked right past us twice. Saved eventually by a manager. Good spot. Could improve the experience with a little more effort.
Monique Da Silva
Ultimately convenient to grab a quick bite whilst shopping, and the perfect pre-movie dinner or post-movie coffee spot! The menu has a wide range of choices for every mood, from on-the-go sandwiches, wraps and fresh salads to hearty pastas and pizzas. The service can be slow when very busy but the staff are friendly. It isn't a restaurant for an exciting experience but definitely is delectable and enjoyable!
Cristina Peral
Supposedly the place to go for coffee and dessert. So was quite disappointing when the tiramisu that we ordered was off. Fresh cream was totally sour!!! #SoNotFresh!! Gross makes me wonder how long they kept it in their fridge for..
Jade Hill
We went to Europa for breakfast . One of the guest ordered one of the dishes and requested crispy polenta even though the dish on the menu says "crispy polenta" , the waiter told us to choose something else as its busy and the kitchen will forget to make it crispy !!! if it's on the menu as crispy polenta, whether your busy or not make sure it's crispy!!!
Michelle
Decor is casual and looks like it all needs a good clean.
Table was sliding all over the place
Service is good and friendly .
Tramezzini was tasteless!
Chicken fillets were horrible !
Food was not good at all.
JR
Probably the best Europa I have been to. Food is great especially the pizza. You need to try the pizza! Coffee also good. Service not so much. The waiter we had didn't know what a sweet potato was! We asked if they have sweet potato and he said "yes" when we got the order it was regular white potato. We told the waiter and said sorry then brought us regular potato again but in a different format (roasted to smashed) - not the brightest star in the sky. Other than than good food. Service not so good so the rating is less.

Update to the about review....
Since the above I have been to this place about 3 times...much to my dismay. The most recent visit was the last straw. Service is always slow and lack of attention to detail is obvious.
Wendy-Lynn Naude
Unfrozen freezoccino, shocking service, or rather no service, generic caterers meals with minimal flavour. 3 tables around us also battled to get service. Manager presence only after we requested it, up till then he did not leave the inside area. And table wasn't cleared, even after we'd voiced our concerns. Blegh!
Andrea P. Diaz
Great spot to grab a quick casual bite before the movies. I really enjoy their chicken soup. You can't complain about the food, and the service is great.
Taniko Gough
Amazing and delicious breakfasts , well worth the money . Waiter even managed to serve the BF a Black label at 9 am ! :) Looking forward to going back !
Gideon Bakkes
My experience as a quick stop before the movies is unfortunately not so great! The service was slow. My pasta was under cooked and my wife's steak was overdone (she asked for medium). Well maybe it was because we visited the restaurant on newyearsday?

I visited Europa in the past and was always OK.
Brendan Roche-Kelly
Overall: I don't come here to be pampered at all, but it makes a nice stop before the movies: inexpensive if one is looking for an outing between coffee and restaurant. Drinks with an option of food.

Atmosphere: convenient, open, a bit chilly due to openness

Seating: not uncomfortable, nicely spaced out for some privacy

Service: polite, a bit slow sometimes

Food: generally good, not exciting
Jose De Carvalho
It's our first time at #Europa and believe me when I say that .. that we will be back. The food was tasty setting your taste buds onto food heaven. Being a person that watches what I eat I asked for little or no oil and they were quiet accommodating. The beef sausage was tasty and the salad vinaigrette really something special. My partner in crime had a salmon sandwhich which was just as tasty.
Jonathan Keytel
With 30 min to spare before the start of our movie we looked for a place for a quick bite. Europa staff said they could make us a quick meal so we gave it a go. As promised our pizza arrived quickly. The quality is very good with the ingredients and flavours perfectly matched. Staff were helpful, friendly and very efficient! A great place we will return too, next time with more time to spare to savor their food offerings.
Candy Kane
Europa must be one of my favourite eateries in Bedford Centre.

They cater for your every nibble need - from light starters and platters to Delicious pizzas and pastas .Friendly staff, yummy food and an awesome vibe, all you have to bring is a companion to enjoy the atmosphere with you.

A must try is their Nutty Mocha - I never fail to have one when I'm at Europa.
BobEd
Very, very poor service. Sat down and not one waiter came to serve me. They were two busy watching the soccer on the tv inside. They had their backs to me and did not turn around to see if I needed service. When I eventually got their attention and ordered 1 cup of coffee, it took ages for the coffee to arrive. I saw that the coffee was made but the waiter did not bring it too me until I again complained. Not going back there again.
Janel
Went there last before the movie. Wow! Was I impressed with the food. And the vibe is so good. Waiter was slow, but I guess coz they were packed. Otherwise really enjoyed! Very impressed!
Blue-genie
This is my favorite place for a pre-movie dinner or a post-movie coffee when I'm watching movies at the Bedford Centre. Great relaxed atmosphere,
Their variety of available foods will suit anyone in your party, from a wide range of salad options, sandwiches, wraps, burgers to pizza and pasta, and even heartier meals - I've never had anything that I've not enjoyed. Their service is quick and efficient and very friendly - perfect for when you're on your way to a movie.

Only gripe is that most of the seating is outside, which on a beautiful sunny SA day is great, but as we creep towards winter, those outdoor heaters just don't cut it. Sitting inside is possible, but their indoor section is tiny.
