The sushi at Jungle is by far the best sushi I have tasted. It's so fresh and made so well. Good value for money. Friendly staff!
Delicious food! Authentic and fresh. Had oysters for the first time! Tasted a variety of food and dessert. Everything was great.
Been going for years, best Sushi ever!!!!!
We have eaten at Jungle a few times. This time we decided to try their sushi, and once again there was nothing I could fault. We started with Chicken, sweet corn soup (it was so good I forgot to take a picture) With tempura prawns - with a ginger soy dipping sauce, and fragrant, coriander filled beef potstickers. Husband was determined to attempt one of their sushi boats, but they looked HUGE and I was determined to save space for dessert, so we shared the salmon sushi platter with extra salmon roses and spicy salmon inari - all were delicious and incredibly fresh! We ended off with their infamous pancake and deep fried ice cream.
The food was (as always) out of this world, service was great and the cost was totally reasonable! No wonder why they’ve been in business for such a long time 🙂
This is the best sushi restaurant in Johannesburg. The portion size is huge! The service is excellent. Maureen was super friendly. The food is absolutely divine! My husband and I love it here! Great, great, great! Thank you for making our experience with you so special and delicious.
Once again we had the most delicious Japanese oysters! Even my 6 year old has 6 of them and begs us for ours 😂 truly amazing and seriously only R12 each, what a treat! Now for some delectable teppanyaki prawns 😋
One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. The service is always really efficient and the staff is also extremely friendly. The food is also served at an acceptable pace. The main dishes that we tend to order would be the grilled eel- although this has deteriorated over time. I have noticed that many people tend to order the very classic sushis that one could get at other seafood restaurants- I highly recommend the special platters that are restaurant specials! The first one on the list (can’t remember the name) is one of my favorites.
Definitely a hidden gem!❤️ Their food and sushi is 10 out of 10 and they are well priced, the staff is polite, friendly and ready to help you, proper traditionally made food with no Fancy gimmicks.
Had heard a lot of good reviews and they definitely lived up to the expectations!
This is my favorite sushi place by far, the staff is friendly and the food is great. My favorite thing to eat is the salmon salad. My family usually just orders a sushi boat which contains many different kinds of sushi and is delicious. They also have deep fried ice cream which is the best dessert ever. They also deep fry salmon fish heads if you are looking for something new to eat.
We have eaten sushi here a few times and it is always excellent, and very good value for money compared to other sushi restaurants.
Highly recommended!
I love this place. The sushi is fresh. The Japanese oysters are sweet and tangy. (worth trying) They have a wide variety of interesting food. The Green Tea icecream is also very different (don't expect a sweet icecream) Beef tataki Salad was also quite tasty if you like rare beef. Overall this restaurant is great, had no issues with the service.
11.11.2017 This place has been on my list for quite some time especially since I've started eating alot more sushi of late. For a Saturday afternoon it was extremely quiet the entire time we were there.
They have quite an extensive menu with good variety. And the prices are also quite reasonable. Friendly staff greeted us on arrival and showed us to a table.
For starters I tried the Deep Fried Calamari, I was rather disappointed with this as it was really small pieces and mainly squid heads that were very chewy and tough. For mains I selected a few varieties of sushi. The Teriyaki Chicken, the Deep fried Prawn and the Dragon Roll. The Teriyaki one was probably my favourite out of all 3. The Sushi was good but fell apart very easily.
They are usually known for their Sushi Boats to share as it's a massive amount of Sushi. Maybe on my next visit I'll attempt that.
I have been here quite a few times and I must say this must be one of the better Japanese restaurants in Johannesburg. Their sushi is pretty good and the boats are definitely one of my favourites. Their teppanyaki and fried rice is pretty decent as well. As for desserts, deep fried ice cream has to be my favourite
This place offers the best and freshest sushi. Love the platter options as well as the sushi boats for larger groups of people. Service is quick and staff are always friendly.
I never tire of this place.
Their variety of sashimis on their sushi boats are great, great enough to come back again and again.
So far the only place I found that serves butterfish sashimi - which, o my goodness, is mouth wateringly soft - something you can't get out of salmon or tuna.
Their Japanese oysters: absolutely exquisite - refreshing, sweet and tangy. Even my brother who hates oysters, loved them.
Their dobinmushi: a must have, satisfyingly refreshing yet rich in authentic flavour.
Their tempenyaki: fun to watch, generous in portion and (black pepper fillet), tender, spicy and heavenly.
Always had attentive and warm service - having had 2 birthdays in their private room and countless socials. Their private room, with the floor sinking in, offers plenty of privacy and space.
Loved Jungle....had wonderful Japanese oysters have to have it with an extra tequila shooter had edamame beans and teriyaki prawns all top class ....sushi had the small boat to share between 3 ppl more than enough had deep fried ice cream and fortune cookies all wonderful. 5star all the way. Service was good
Really enjoyed my time here. The service was amazing, the food delicious! And the place had a warm Japanese feel. I order platter of sushi. For R168 I got about 20 piece. It was worth the price. The portion sizes are very generous. We get to watch the chef make our food right in front of us, great experience. The restaurant itself is in Bedford view so a little far from home, but whenever I'm in the area I'd love to go back.
Excellent sushi. A good variety of fish beyond just the usual salmon and tuna. Very fresh and the portions are generous. Try the wasabi ice cream!
Delightful little spot!We indulged in sushi for the evening and no complaints on the service, food or the price! Well done Jungle :)
Jungle Sushi is one of the better sushi places I've been to recently!
They have really interesting sushi choices, such as oyster sushi, which was delicious. The sushi boats are great for display, and you get a nice variety, too. Go with plans of sharing though, because those sushi boats are big!
The also do green tea ice-cream, which is authentic and delicious. The service was great, too!
This is my second time coming to the Jungle. The food itself is not the grandest but if you if you want some fresh fish this is a right place is you are around the area. Try their dobinmushi the soup for a change, it is light and flavored with seafood and mushroom. For drinks the green frappe is a great option for hot summer weather. Their sushi portion is quite decent and sashimi is fresh fresh fresh!!! We have also tried their udon, the broth is light and fresh, but nothing grand about it. We were stuffed with food that we have to skipped the deep fried icecream. But definitely the next time.
I love their matcha (green tea) ice-cream. It's not too sweet and refreshing 🍃 It also comes with 2 scoops which is perfect to share.
A fantastic meal... ! Japanese style oysters, sushi, teppanyaki and egg fried rice a must! Never had an average or bad meal.. service with a smile every time ! SILANI the best best waitress!
Tucked in this little corner is a gem. Absolutely loved the food and atmosphere. Especially when it's prepared right in front of you. It did take a bit of time but worth the wait. Deep fried ice cream...must try!
Really money deal. Get the big ship platter. Very yummy and definitely get your money's worth. Fish was fresh. Have a lot of Japanese varieties
This is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants to come to in Johannesburg. Been to many but this place is always constantly good! To start off they have a seafood soup served in a tea pot (dobinmushi). These you only really find in authentic Jap restaurants. It's quite pricey but super worth it! Sushi is always fresh and rolls are made very well too. If you lucky they have oysters on special for 15 rand each. Very fresh and well worth it.
The sushi is jungle is some of the best Johannesburg has to offer. It's tasty and they not stingy with the salmon :) If you're in the mood for sharing, the small boat (pictured here) is a real treat.
One of my fave sushi spots in the East. Big open plan area with a sunken area with three teppanyaki counters seating about 10 at each counter. Decor is minimalist Asian style but sushi is to die for. Their "boats" come in three sizes and are literally, golden boats, featuring a variety of sushi. Owned by Mr Jungle (not sure if real name) a super friendly host and the service is generally good. This has to be one of my best finds in Johannesburg thus far. Highly recommended for sushi lovers :)
Nice Japanese restaurant with clean lines and a simple feel. sushi and sashimi of a good standard. Service is in alignment with expectations, so what's stopping it from getting more than a four? I guess I think it's a little pricey, nor does it push the boundaries with respect to delivering something a little different from what is expected of a typical sushi place. No issues with returning again.
I eat at jungle between 2-3 times a week and it's one of my favorite restaurants, the service is always great and so is the food, if it's your first time going, you can't go wrong with their sushi, prawn teppanyaki and my all time favorite beef tataki 😍😉😍
Best sushi I've tasted since going round Japan with the "spicy" sauce blasting your tastebuds with wonderful happiness. Highly recommend this restaurant and finish your meal of with their deep fried ice cream.
The sushi at Jungle is delicious and there is a large variety to choose from. The Japanese oysters are fantastic , a must try!!
The service could do with some improvement on attentiveness but overall it was a delightful experience.
Sushi was delicious and fresh with the usual favourites and some chef specialities. The Japanese oysters have an unusual sweet taste and are a definitely ones to try out. Theres even something for the sweet toothed - the pancakes and fried ice cream were great. The only thing that lets this restaurant down is the almost non existent service.
Such a wonderful establishment!
We had the beef egg fried rice and the spicy beef teppanyaki which were both really good.
We also ended off the meal with deep fried ice cream - this was s true winner!
This place is vibey, relatively inexpensive and offers really quality food and service!
I've been going to Jungle for a very long time now and is still one of my best sushi places to go to.
Their crab and cheese spring rolls are my best and some of the best I've tasted before, and the sushi is always fresh and well made.
The prices are a little steep, but the boats work out very well for a nice mix of variety and options.
Worth a visit.
Great Sushi, and very tasty Teppanyaki. The restaurant décor is very average and the food a bit pricey, but they do make the best pancake and ice cream which you cannot get anywhere else in Gauteng. Try it.
Good teppanyaki service is very slow so be prepared to wait. Last time we went there was a Sunday for lunch we were the only ones in the restaurant and it took ages to get our food! But having said that the food is good and the best is the delicious PANCAKES with ice cream worth the wait!!!
Absolutely amazing food and service. 3 meals in one night and each one outstanding. Newly done decor adds to the delicious occasion. Recommended to all!!
I remember this establishment being wonderful when visiting as a child. I recently rediscovered it and have been dying to try it since. Walking in I was a little worried as the restaurant seemed bare and appeared to need updating/renovating. However the food was stunning. One could see the teppanyaki chief had years of experience, the food was presented beautifully and the flavours were amazing. By the end of the evening the chairs were filled and the vibe was merry. Jungle is a little more pricy then the competition but your belly will thank you
Tucked away in an awful strip mall, but the most delicious sushi ever. I order sushi once a week and it is always exceptional. Order the avo maki and dragon rolls. Sashimi could be sliced thinner.
Experiential Eating... sitting at the Teppanyaki bar just made me even more hungry after the 3rd course. Always been a special, authentic place... and I will continue to recommend it.
Jungle is the restaurant that made me fall in love with sushi. If you're hungry with a pocket of money this is the place to be. You wont be disappointed when it comes to sushi or Saki.
If you're up for something new, ask Jungle for some special oysters, he makes them himself and they are well worth it.
For the less adventurous the cheesy crab sticks will always be a winner.
Once a month, every month.
We went to jungle sushi and teppanyaki for lunch this past Saturday and it was a very pleasant experience.
We arrived to a very warm welcome by our waiter. He was friendly and very knowledgable of the menu. We order a pot of green tea and a coke as we were a party of 4. Those came quickly and we then ordered our food.
We ordered the medium boat which consisted of 14pcs assorted sashimi, 8pcs assorted nigiri, 10pcs rainbow roll, 16pcs maki, 8pcs California roll.
The sashimi was mostly fresh, except for what I think was the butterfish. The sushi was good. The rice had a great constancy and didn't fall apart when dunked into the wasabi soya sauce.
I also ordered the deep fried tofu and and two handrolls, a prawn tempura handroll and a salmon handroll. These were delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed them.
We had a great time and the waiter was very helpful and on hand to help us when we needed.
I consider myself to be a sushi snob - and without doubt, this restaurant has the best sushi in South Africa, prepared by real sushi masters.
I met up with one of my chairpersons and P. We decided to have a social and just have a relaxing time. I must admit that the setting was nice. Sitting around the Tepenyake dude seeing him making the dish is quiet an experience, If you do that, just be careful that you do not fry your brows or any of your fingers and you can easily get distracted.. especially after a saki or two. LOL...
Well we had a starter of oysters with some interesting dressing.. We asked for 6 oysters but they whack you with the price. We all decided to have tepenyake which was really tasty. The setting is pleasant and the service friendly. When making use of the toilets you have to go through this room where it seems the smokers go and my greatness you feel that you going into a dodgy place. But my experience here was nice. It's a good experience.. If you like sushi I would recommend you visit this place. .
I've had dinners here a couple of times. I think it's got great consistency in quality of food.
The service I would say is okay.
The atmosphere is much better after the renovations.
Personally recommend:
Green tea/ mocha milkshake
tempura platter (get a platter so u can have both seafood and vegetables)
Deep fried tofu
Inari salmon (battleship)
Handrolls are good as well
Will definitely be coming back for more.
Amazing salmon sashimi along with their salmon roses.
Venue isn't too shabby either and in a great part of bedfordview.
Staff can be slow on the take at at time.
I was curiously made aware of Jungle Sushi, which is essentially walking-distance from my house, by a Zomato ad.
My interest grew when I noticed that this restaurant offered unusual sushi choices: clam, marlin and red snapper. These are the exact sashimi portions I tried, in addition to cream cheese salmon california and salmon roses.
It was an interesting experience, the rice and clam were very good, but the salmon lacked taste.
This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Johannesburg! The food is super tasty and the service is quick and friendly! Strongly recommend their sushi boats to all the sushi lovers out there!! :)
I really like this place for a quick casual sushi night. The fish is always fresh, and their roll selection is great. Their fried rice was also delish. I've never tried their teppanyaki, but smells divine.
Good but not amazing.
Jungle serves Sushi, Teppanyaki and some rice/noodle dishes. They have quite a cute deco, not tacky like most of the Eastern Asian restaurants. The service is friendly and the ambiance is pretty decent.
We ordered a Salmon platter, the portion was quite large given the price. The sushi rice is pleasant, but the salmon was a little warm and doesn't have the 'melt-in-mouth' effect. It might be because it was a really hot day and we were sitting by the tepanyaki table so everything is a little more heated around there.
We also ordered the pepper steak, chicken and pineapple, chicken and mushroom tepanyaki. The chicken was soft but is slightly under-seasoned. The pepper steak was delicious, but got a little too pepper-y in the end. I was quite disappointed that starch had to be ordered separately, so I couldn't justify the price that we had to pay for it.
One plus side is that sometimes they have complementary deep-fried Salmon head. My friend also ordered the green tea milkshake which was very delicious and refreshing.
Bottomline: Everything is quite mediocre
Pros: Cute deco, free salmon head, big slices for sashimi
Cons: Have to order starch on the side
p.s. For comparison, see my review for Yamitsuki (also sushi and tepanyaki) around the corner.
Best sushi I've had in the area, reasonable pricing and great service. Definitely a must go for Japanese cuisine. For this I have become a regular customer
I come here often and I absolutely love it! The sushi melts in your mouth, the soups are packed with flavour, the teppanyaki is delicious and everything is filling. All the decor and setting lends itself to a very authentic and "Zen" feeling. Service is quick and friendly and the food is very reasonably priced. To top everything, there are chocolate dipped fortune cookies!! :D
This place offers tasty and affordable sushi (buy one get one free daily specials). I went there for dinner on Saturday evening with a friend and they weren't so busy.
Their Japanese oysters were really well made and delicious. The teppanyaki chicken was a little salty but pairs well with white rice. The noodles was made with soy sauce so it didn't pair too well with the salty chicken.
The teppanyaki chef was really friendly and had great showmanship. It was very entertaining watching him do his craft.
Only negative experience I had was the slow service. Our waitress was scarcely present throughout our meal and never asked about our food once. We needed serviettes, the menu again, order more food etc but always had to fight to get her attention 😅
Update: went back and got more sushi and their Salmon salad is amazing.
Out of the all the Sushi Restaurants I have been to, this is the place with the highest quality of 🍣 Sushi around Johannesburg. A lot of nice side dishes too. We always get the boat platter and a soup whilst ordering. It was a pity they reduced the size of the menu. But it is still top quality.
I had a lovely time here. There is currently a buy 1 get 1 free special, so as usual, we had as much as we could stomach. Easy to find parking and the waitress that I had was attentive and friendly. The sushi could use bigger pieces of sushi and sometimes do skimp on a few of the pieces. The tiger rolls and tempura prawns are the assorted menu are really delicious. If you want your sinuses cleared then the wasabi parcel will definitely do that. The handrolls were really tasty. Overall good experience.

I have visited many times over the years and always considered Jungle one of my favorite hidden gems. The food is always excellent quality and the service is great. If you get a good table, you even get a very entertaining show from the skilled cooks at the teppan bar or the sushi bar. It's always a lot of fun.
When a recommendation for all-you-can-eat sushi was fully booked we decided to try Jungle as an alternative. When we arrived we were hesitant as it was very quiet and we almost thought it must be for a reason. Well I am so happy we decided to give it a chance.
The waitress was sweet and pleasant, the Sushi was delicious and so well presented. We got a lovers platter which was great value for money and with the buy one get one free we ended up eating as much as we could have at an all-you-can-eat but for far less.
The drinks were well priced( best Rock Shandy I've ever had) and the Jasmine tea was moreish .
I loved how everything was presented.
I think we have found our local sushi spot and cannot wait to come back and try more dishes.
The sushi was really great and the service, was my first time visiting and I would definitely recommend them.

Amazing service and even better food. Love watching them cook right in front of you. Go all the time and have never been disappointed.
Ordered a sushi boat which was filling for two people, the quality of the sushi was good. The grapefruit tea was a little too sweet, had to ask for more hot water to dilute it. Good value for money! Keen to come back and try more dishes.
What a delightful experience. The food was top notch, service was efficient and so friendly, and the atmosphere cozy and relaxing.
Very balanced combo from warmth of the waiters ,time taken to prepare and the actual taste ,overall the service was impressive for a minute .
Lovely sushi, good value for money, pleasant experience, peaceful atmosphere
Sushi is fresh and really great. I will be returning here. Service was good too
Really good food and service at affordable prices. Loving coming here amazing sushi.
