Review Mozambik Ballito - Ballito

Gerhard Olivier
If you are craving proper seafood, this ia the place for you. Keep in mind prices are not for the faint hearted. If you are looking for a cheap meal, this place is not for you. Good quality seafood is what you can expect here!

The restaurant looks cozy and nice. Ordered a takeout though I would've loved to dine-in. The staff were so friendly. We had seafood platter for 2, it was extremely delicious, the prawns, 6 stars!! Also the complementary nuts were delish!

Definitely love the food. Service was excellent. The play area for the Kids can definitely be improved.. when its not raining the kids have access to a jumping castle. When raining they have a ship to play with but it's location is not ideal... and this ship has great potential. Not sure if there are meant to have child minders... the play area is a separate room from the restaurant so I think they should have someone there

Thank you Mozambik for an amazing evening! The new sushi is exceptional and the service is flawless! Will definitely return soon!

The food and service was great. Their seafood platter for 2 is fantastic if you are in the mood for seafood. Prawns, calamari, mussels and fish were all excellent. Hand cut chips and a devine sauce to compliment the rice too. The kids had their hand made fish fingers (2x ~13cm x ~3cm) with chips and they loved it. Prices for food and drinks are good. Not overly pricey but definitely not cheap. Nice atmosphere.

A wonderful expierence, food was prepared fast and was piping hot, which is a plus for me, as I don't enjoy cold food. The food even though Mozambique inspired did not have a lot of spice to it, not in the burn my mouth away sense, but more of the vibrant spices I was expecting. The service was awesome, even though they were fully packed and the atmosphere was also very good.

An authentic Portuguese restaurant. Great atmosphere, super food. Will definitely be back. A very tasty piri piri sauce.
Sandy Martins
Best Mozambik in the country. Best Food, Service and Atmosphere. Value for money. No other restaurant i have been to in Ballito comes close in terms of getting all the elements right. Kids are safe too; the staff are on top form.
Michelle Singh
The food is absolutely divine, you can never go wrong with the full peri peri chicken, the prawns. The cheesy prawn tails, the livers. Absolutely yummy food. The staff need to be more friendly though.

Had a delicious dinner with the kids. Seafood platter for two was amazing. Jumping castle on the outside for the kids was a winner as well.
Corene Newbery
Delicious Portuguese-inspired food, great service, and space for the kids to play. Highly recommend the calamari and prawns, although the prawn curry and prego rolls are also fabulous. There is even a childminder on hand to help out so parents can also enjoy their meals. Our waitress Nombuso was attentive and prompt. Wish we lived closer so we could come more often!

One of my regular spots. An establishment that has never disappointed in service and taste. The service this time was amongst the best that we have ever experienced. Well done Sne and the others for an amazing food experience Marcus and Joanne

An amazing experience at Mozambik Ballito, the professionalism from reserving a table to the warm welcome, delicious food, refreshing drinks, greeting from the manager, efficiency from the waiters leave you feeling so good. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, loved the vibe! The food was pure perfection, the sauces were delicious and the coconut rice makes you feel as if you're on a tropical island. Thank you to the team who made our first experience at Mozambik an absolutely memorable one. We will definitely be visiting again and again :)

Thank you for the best prawns ever. The first time I felt that it's worth paying eating out as I know I can't make food like this. Really amazing awesome cocktails 🍸 brilliant atmosphere. Really worth it 👌

The place is beautiful and a great vibe. I’m in love😍 with the pool sitting area.

We absolutely loved our meals at mozambik. We started our meal outside and moved inside as a table became available. We went full out and ordered the fillet trinchado starter, along with the quarter chicken and then the calamari and prawn combo. My fiancé managed to fit a don Pedro in at the end but I was too full to even glance at the dessert menu. Lovely atmosphere and they have a generator for load shedding. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and everything arrived extremely timeously. Would definitely recommend!

If could give it 10 stars I would, absolutely love this place, food is always on point, absolutely delicious, staff absolutely friendly, humble and always willing to help in any way to fulfill whatever request you may have, this goes all the way from the waiters, waitresses to the management, just a great all around vibe👌table number 14, ask anyone of them about us, the next time you visit 😉enjoy!
Vanessa
Wow wow wow!!! As soon as we arrived our waitron SIMBA greeted us and took us up to our table. Recited the specials and was the most attentive and helpful waitron ever. Best service, looking for ways to give us food that was not even on the menu. I dined on a luscious crab curry and wow the dorado! Giblets beyond compare and escargots in the most creamy luscious cheesy sauce! Cocktails not withstanding we felt like we really were in Mozambique!!! We will definitely be back and Simba if u move to the Pearls location we will be there too!!!! You made our stay in Ballito an amazing one with your awesome service !!!
Nicola Bursnall
We went through on an ordinary Wednesday for lunch. Ordered the chicken Prego and my partner ordered the hake and chips. We were so impressed by the quality of food and the service was great too. We couldn’t help ourselves but pop in for lunch the next day too. <br/><br/>We were definitely just as satisfied the next day and would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and a relaxing atmosphere.
Alta Laubscher
Real fresh Mozambique food. Love the vibe. We went for a family dinner. For starters we had giblets and snails, and for the main we had the calamari, chips, a side salad salad and peri-peri chicken with prawns. Very tasty and huge portions, it is definitely worth the money. The waiter was friendly and great service.
Karel Janse Van Rensburg
Great service, good quality food, reasonably priced...remember to make a booking...atmosphere comfortable, informal and friendly. Don’t know why a review needs 140 characters?
Margie Beath
The service was excellent and friendly. Loved our food. Beautifully flavoured and presented. Highly recommended for any foodie looking for good quality food.

Always fab food and ambience! Highly recommended. Your stay in Ballito won’t be complete without a visit to this great restaurant with its holiday vibe. Special thanks to Fern..

Last night's experience was like the BBQ-peri-peri chicken I had, not hot at all. Food... very, very average. Service...slow, and that on a quiet night. I can go into details, but that might take just as long as the time I waited for tomato sauce. And nobody has got that much time to waste. The highlight, and second star goes to... the Luyt Lager on tap...

We have been to Mo-Zam-Bik Ballito on many occasions, but last night I was somewhat disappointed . . . . We were shown a table near the toilets (which I thought a good idea as I drink a lot of water)!  However, I overlooked water on the floor, due to the ice machine we were told.  There was a very dead plant in a pot, and bits of paper lying around - not a very nice ambiance for an evening out!  Going to the toilet, I encountered another very dead plant in a pot . . . a rather sad sight to see :(<br/>On a good note, I can highly recommend the grilled hake with wasabi mash and an outstanding side salad and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his peri-peri basted chicken and chips!!  The service was good as well . . . . but the area around the toilets needs attention!!  I was told by Luke, the Manager, that this problem would definitely be sorted - so Luke, I will be back to see what has transpired!!
Judy Thorrington-Smith
The meal we have just had at Mo-Zam-bik Ballito was outstanding. The ambiance, friendly staff and excellent service all play a big part in the overall experience of dinner at this restaurant, but it’s the chicken that blows your socks off. The peri-peri half chicken and chips can simply not be beaten. Thank you Chris (Rock), for being an excellent waiter too!
The Foodie
We have been on numerous occasions to Ballito but have never visited Mozambik before. On this occasion i finally decided to give it a shot. Parking is a major issue given the location but the food is simply awesome ! I opted for the peri-peri chicken and pawn combo whilst my spouse decided to try out the calamari and chicken combo. Fresh, tasty with a decent kick.. from the huge peri-peri queen prawns to the tender peri peri chicken which was flavored to perfection, the food was off the highest quality. My spouse's calamari tubes were soft and tender and equally good! What made the experience great was the awesimevibe in the restaurant coupled with good attentive service. On the whole, a very pleasant experience ! I will be back !
AG
I have to say that was extremely disappointed by the experience. <br/><br/>Service was really poor from the onset and we had to constantly find our waitress. Other waiting staff would walk right past you and can see that you need assistance but ignore you. <br/><br/>All our food was swimming in butter, chicken was flavourless, Calamari like rubber. Really unappetizing. <br/><br/>Ambience is rather loud. Not a romantic night out. It is not deserving of anything higher than a 2.
Sunira Kandielall
Good quality of food - amazing seafood. The combos are delicious. Large portions served and a very rustic ambience with a great vibe. Staff are super friendly and very efficient.
Katiel
If you are looking for upmarket dining this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for the best food in town then this is the best. The seafood is done to perfection with the flavour of Portuguese spices and aromas. We had a table of 16 from small children up to adults and every meal was extremely good. The dedicated play area for the children offers parents a much needed break while they enjoy there meal. The kids didn't want to leave.
Dewaldvs
Food was not fresh. All fish were frozen....for a well known place at the seaside this is really not good enough.<br/><br/>Prices are also quite high for what they offer.<br/><br/>The view was also disappointing...
Ikram Gabr
Authentic Mozambican cuisine, service could be better with more attentive waiters, but the food is excellent.<br/>Very lively environment, pleasant Deco that takes you back to Mozambique.
Rory Bekker
Fairly typical family-casual restaurant on a busy Friday night.<br/>Service was okay. Nothing exceptional, but no real issues.<br/>Mains arrived in good time. Both our peri peri chickens were cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing. Not too hot and very flavourful. Grilled calamari got the thumbs up too.<br/>Chocolate lava cake oozed perfectly and went well with the fresh ice cream. Very rich though - was more than enough to share the portion between us.<br/>We'll be back for a quick, casual meal some time.
Shalom Noxolo Maclean
I came here with high hopes and expectations because of all the reviews but unfortunately was disappointed. The waiters were friendly but the restaurant itself was quite loud, as were the children running between the tables to the play area and back. The food was not as spectacular as I had hoped as the hake still had the scales on it. The stir fried veg was a bit oily and the sauce lacked the flavour I was hoping for. Their calamari tentacles were tasty though as was the sauce for that. <br/>I would go back with a group of friends if we were celebrating something rather than going for a quiet dinner.
Krajpad
Loved the ambience! Surrounded by all those trees it really felt like we were on a far away island. <br/>Hubby and I shared a starter garlic loaf which was just the right size to appease the hunger monster while we made our way through the first round of drinks. <br/>I chose hake and chips for mains, cooked in the famous chillie sauce. It was perfect in every way, succulent hake, crispy chips yum. Hubby had the half chicken and chips which he raved about. The coconut rice was out of this world! Desert was a chocolate brownie which was more a really rich chocolate cake but good nonetheless. Oh and we got a bottle of the heavenly sauce to enjoy at home 😍<br/>
James Campbell
We went to Mozambik with 2 friends and had an awesome evening. We had the prawn with garlic and cheese starter and the Chorizo Sausages. Both were extremely good. The prawns were incredibly fresh and super tasty. For mains I had the lemon and herb half chicken with Veg that's was top notch! The ambiance is just like being in Mozambique and the waiter was knowledgeable and very friendly. Would recommend the place to anyone!

Adeel Hoosain<br/><br/>What an awesome place.. Great food, great vibe.. The rum, Best so far.. Great location, right around the corner from where we were staying..
UK
Went there recently for my mum's birthday lunch. Ordered the fishcakes for starters- abit too fishy for my liking, it needed more greens - however the mayo and crispy exterior was great! The mains were amazing as always- had the chicken and prawn combo and the fish and prawn combo! Was super impressed with the staff- they are extremely friendly and attentive - thanks to Kennedy for a job well done! Had the pavlova for dessert which was delicious! Told our waiter it was mum's birthday- to our surprise the staff sang happy birthday for her and gave her a complimentary icecream and wafer. Overall, a great place, good vibes, relaxed environment! Will be back soon!
Mahesh Redhi
Reserved a table for a birthday, we were welcomed with smiles and excitement, waiters are friendly. They have a good range of wines!<br/>The chicken is amazing!
Yaniska Singh
I swear to God the sauce they use for their chicken was created by angels in disguise. I usually order the quarter chicken and chips as it never fails to satisfy these tastebuds of mine. Lovely vibey set up and always a buzz in the air at MoZamBik. Highly recommended for those nights when you just wanna treat yo'self ;)
ABaker
The food was fantastic!! Starters of prawn bilene and calamari tentacles was fabulous. The mains of hake and the queen prawns was very delicious!<br/><br/>However, on a busy night the service is not up to standard. Will definitely go for another visit!<br/><br/>Nice vibe too!
Haydn Du Plessis
A great place to go for seafood, with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. <br/><br/>The calamari and chourico starter is an absolute winner, and something I order every time I eat here. <br/><br/>The prawns are always tasty, be sure to order some chips to soak up all the sauce! If seafood isn't your thing, give the Mozambican steak a go, very decent steak!
Cindy Bogan
Loving the new upgrade to the decor, & the food was as excellent as ever, as was the service. The peri peri chicken could definately have been hotter, but the flavour was delicious. The ambience is really great, & the staff are really good at checking to see that all is good, without being a nuisance<br/> Will definitely keep.foinf back. Well done Mozambique!!!
Rupert Roos
Good food and fast friendly service. What more can you ask for? <br/><br/>The atmosphere on the night we dined here was fantastic. We had a short wait for a table buy was accommodated within minutes. Luckily we were only two people so make sure you book a table for larger parties especially in the busy times.
Sara-Lea Van Eeden
Food was ok but over priced especially the calamari kebab, catch of the day lacked flavour but amazing coconut sauce. Vibe is probably better on the deck. Loved the cocktails.

First time here and heard great things! The food was really good. I would definitely recommend this place. The service has much room for improvement so don't expect top notch as the staff are not focused to notice your needs! I would be back though for the food!
Trudy Jones
Smoking area on top of an old boat! No umbrella's! Went there twice in a week! Rude waiters! Both times we walked out . I have been before abound 3 years ago. They went out of their way to accommodate us

I've been to Mozambik in morningside, so this was my second time at a chain in Durban.<br/><br/>The actual restaurant is allocated in a quaint little spot in Ballito and always looks like there's a vibe even if it's a little empty. <br/><br/>We got served by Ashley, a lovely guy with great service! We ordered a beef espatada and hake with Wasabi Mash. So...<br/><br/>I was really impressed with the food the wasabi mash was super tasty as was the coconut/lime sauce my bake came in. We had also ordered roast veg, which were done perfectly. My only dissatisfaction was biting into the meat of my hake and partners beef skewer. The meat was cooked amazingly but there was no flavour inside. So you almost had to cut and season then eat.<br/><br/>Other than that, I'd recommend this place to anyone date night, out for drinks, solo riding... give it a go!

Been there for dinner with visiting friends from the Czech Republic. Great food, nice location and atmosphere. Enjoyed the experience and will visit again....

Birthday supper here waz really good. Our waitress waz on the ball and attentive, though we were a large group of 10 people. I chose the calamari and chicken livers, which I enjoyed the first time I ate at this restaurant previously. Served with coconut rice waz absolutely delish. The sauce which the livers is cooked in is so tasty. The chicken and prawn espetada is also really good.
Leeia
This is a great spot and while now a franchise, this is the original one. The service is fantastic and the food good. Having a play area tucked away with a child monder is a real plus as we felt so safe to let the kids run wild. Kingsley holgates spirit of adventure sots in the restaurant and u can even done in it. This place is very popular in season so booking is a must.
Natalie Lazaris
Still love mozambik. There is nothing better than sitting on the boat having a chorizo and trinchado followed by a perri perri chicken or a fresh fish. You feel like you are in the middle of Mozambique on the beach somewhere....but since we are not... um yum. Worth the visit everytime you are in the area, just make sure you book.... its a super popular place and totally worth it.
Colleen Goodman
Great service and really good food - the chicken & prawn Espetada was yummy as were the cocktails. Energetic vibe that makes you wanna linger<br/>

Went to Mozambique for lunch today. The food was great as always, I really do find that the food is consistently good here. It has a really chilled vibe and is a great place to catch up with friends. We sat upstairs which is open and breezy, a must in the hot summer months in Ballito. I had the grilled calamari cooked in Zambeziana sauce - Devine! Perfectly cooked and the sauce is beyond delish, I really wish I could figure out the recipe! Hubby ordered the baby chicken which was a decent size and tasty. I did miss the warm peanuts which used to be served as a welcome snack, not sure if they did away with these or maybe they just ran out. Overall good service, good food, good venue and a happy me :)
Aidan
I was very impressed with this restaurant. The food was fantastic and the service was perfect. I had the prawns which were worth every cent. The entire aesthetic of the restaurant was great. This branch certainly beats it's related offerings in JHB.
Wes Smuts
I absolutely loved this restaurant for years. Sitting on the ship on the rooftop and surveying the world go by and drinking jugs of R&R (rum and sparletta rasberry) and eating the amazing prawns and peri-peri chicken after we smashed the portugese starters of calamari tentacles, trinchado and livers. A feast for a king.<br/><br/>My last two visits however have been less thrilling, but i cannot tell if it is because the food is more oily or if I don't drink anymore. <br/><br/>I can definitely recommend this spot for a sunny day out with a mozamican feast.
Jared Carneson
The food is incredible! That peri peri basting is out of this world. The portions could be a little bigger. The fact that they are some of the most delicious prawns and calamari I have ever had, are a massive redeemer.
Fluffy
One of the best restaurants I've been to in KZN, Mo-Zam-Bik delivered on every dish ordered. <br/><br/>My partner and I fought over who got the last bit of trinchado and we both thoroughly enjoyed our mains. The highlight was the silky smooth, best-I've-ever-had wasabi mash. Cocktails were also fantastic. The portions are generous and more than worth the price paid. <br/><br/>Our waitress was also wonderful, knew the menu like the back of her hand and the rest of the staff were warm and welcoming.<br/><br/>
Penny Parbhoo
Whenever we are down on holiday in Balito, we make sure we get a couple of meals in. Pretty much everything is yummy. I love their trinchardo and their fresh rolls are heavenly. The prawns are fantastic and my husband says their chicken is the best he's ever eaten. You should always book as this place is always busy.
Helen Mansfield
Mo-Zam-Bik has always been a favourite for my family when visiting Ballito, however our last experience there was below average. The service was great but the food has definitely taken a dive. My trinchado was not even remotely close to proper Portuguese Trinchado (filllet in garlic mussel sauce, yuch)and my chicken was floating in oil and dry, hope it was just an off night. Helen
Robyn Louw
Great food, really tasty and juicy chicken for me. The coconut and lime sauce was delicious with crunchy and tasty grilled veggies. The steak was good, not extremely 'special' but still good. The deep fried bar-ones were great for dessert! We sat upstairs and outdoors which is not great at night. The service was a bit slow but friendly. Not bad...
Zaahirah Bhamjee
We came here because we heard they had the best prawns in Durban and it was not disappointing!<br/><br/>The prawns werre spicy, saucy and fresh and the chips that came with them were cooked well too. <br/><br/>The vibe is really chilled. Definitely head there when you're in Ballito.
Linique Van Deventer Vogel
Food and service was amazing! Special mention to the manager lady, she was just amazing! She didn't miss a thing and attended to the small things herself, was truly fantastic service from her!
Andy Turton
Don't let the unassuming entrance fool you - this place is big and lively. I was very pleased with the food: it's traditional and delicious!
Matthew MacFarlane
The service was very slow but the food was absolutely delicious with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Will definitely come back and would recommend a visit.
Warren
Interesting location and setting when the weather is great, however upstairs can get quite unpleasant in the cold and rain.<br/>The decor is rustic and borderline shipwreck, but then our group had a long afternoon there and by evening were borderline pirate.<br/>The drinks flowed and our waiter was very attentive <br/>We had catemba and ice cold beers which kept everyone happy in the drinks department.<br/>Food was simple but tasty<br/>The chicken had a good bite<br/>The steak was well cooked<br/>And the one fish dish was complimented <br/>All in all a good spot for our big crowd
Steph
Awesome dinner on Friday night! The seafood here is really good. Prawns, calamari and special of the day Mahi Mahi was all fantastic. The restaurant has a really funky atmosphere and cool pieces of decor. Our waitress, Princess, was very friendly and sweet. Our food did take quite a while to arrive but it was worth the wait. The complimentary snack of roasted peanuts wrapped in brown paper cones were a really cool touch too.
Holly Mockridge
I love the prawns and my dad raves about the peri peri chicken!!!!! Portions are big. Really chilled vibe. I have been many times and was not disappointed once.
Razmataz
Very simple casual restaurant with incredible Portuguese food and fantastic service. Never had a bad meal, their prawn rissoles are the best, peri chicken for girls (deboned) is a win. All shellfish is superb, we generally order a variety and ask that it be served on a large platter to share. Try a platter to include calamari, Peri chicken, prawns is generally enough for four. A must when in Ballito
Neesha Fakir
I have been reluctant to post a review as I am still captivated by my wonderous experience. I am quite emphatic in my conviction that this is my best and most memorable restaurant experience to date. While not quite located on the beaches of Maputo, it feels authentic enough. The Zambesiana sauce is a heavenly treat. I am also super impressed that this restaurant gives a portion of it's earnings to efforts addressing Malaria, this is simply remarkable. I will be going back... often!
MozambikGirl
This is the best Moz-am-bik outlet I've ever been to. The food is excellent, you almost have yourself wondering if it's something to do with the beach air. The R&R is my favourite drink, because it tastes so good, so you can imagine how potent it can be ;) <br/><br/>You can't go to Ballito without going to this place at least once.
Rafaellabennett
Great food! Excellent service and a brilliant atmosphere. <br/>Starters arrived quickly although the restaurant was packed, our mains (Pregos) were cooked to perfection and the rolls nice and fresh. <br/>The R&R's are also a treat! A lovely experience overall
Andrea L
Ah Mozambik why?? You were doing so well!<br/><br/>Our waiter was really great and speedy, but unfortunately, there was a problem in the kitchen and the food took an hour and a half to get to us after we ordered. <br/><br/>I was forgiving of it, as our waiter communicated the issues to us, however, there was a huge piece of plastic in my boyfriend's food which just brought the whole experience down. <br/><br/>Having said all of this, their prawns and chicken are amazing and the decor is an awesome, beachy vibe. I feel that it was just an unlucky day maybe.
JR
Very busy so make sure you book. Service very efficient. Our waiter was very competent which brought up the rating. Starters weren't bad at all, snails and calamari. Mains: Prawns and fish ordered were a bit over cooked. There is a good choice of cocktails on the menu. A Good place for dinner with friends or as a couple
Cuan Clarke
Went here yesterday while on holiday and some blonde girl handling the booking was so rude and spoke to us like crap. Won't ever go back just because of her and her service
Rakman
Never miss a chance to go to Mo-Zam-Bik every time we are at the north coast. Food is fantastic and never disappoints. Management and staff are friendly and attentive and if there is an issue they always sort it out. One of my personal favorite places for watching a match and hanging out
Derek Hall
Perfect place for a beer, a rugby game and above average food.<br/>The chicken livers are done with a spicy, creamy brown sauce that had me wishing for more fresh Portuguese rolls to clean the bowl with. The prawns were equally delicious and one gets the distinct impression that this is their signature dish. Soft, fresh and full of flavour!

Mo-Zam-Bik started out as a project in 2005 by two friends, Ryan Stewart and Brett Michelin to allow you to experience Mozambique, without needing to board a plane. <br/><br/>However, I can't help but feel that this 'vibe', really does need to at least be near the beach for it to have a decent effect so this concept was lost on me in their Johannesburg branches. Imagine my surprise to find this wonderful little spot in Ballot which is by far the best Mo-Zam-Bik of all their outlets and a bucket list requirement going forward for me each and every time that I am in the area!! <br/><br/>All Mo-Zam-Bik's offer traditional Portuguese cuisine, and their interiors/decor are based on the authentic Mozambique “Barraca”. On this occasion, a group of at least sixty of us (a wedding party) booked for a mid-week meal and the service was really decent for such a large group. I also loved that they were able to accommodate us on such short notice. My prawns were incredible in this rustic little Mozambique beachside eatery and I loved every minute of it! <br/>*Recommendation: My favourite Mo-Zam-Bik by far! I highly recommend it!<br/><br/>For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter: LaurasWorldza

A trip to Ballito is not complete without at least one meal at Mo-Zam-Bik! Great food and vibe, as always.<br/><br/>Divine prawns, chicken and steak with good attentive service.
Kyle Holtzhausen
Had lunch here with the family after checking the ratings and hearing about it. All the good stories are 110% true! From the amazing setting to the absolutely exceptiponal meals that were served, this restaurant actually desterves a 6/5. The waiters are friendly, funny and efficient, it's generally very clean and as mentioned, THAT FOOD! wow.. <br/>You can't fault them on anything.
Gillian
First time visiting the natal version of this franchise and I was pleasantly surprised! <br/>The decor is well thought out and consistent - the staff friendly. We were there for dinner and then a comedy night upstairs. The food was simple to order - I went for a baby calamari espetada with the lemon butter but asked for Peri-peri on the side. Around the table we had a selection of prawns and fish ordered. The special sauce - the zambeziana sauce for the fish was popular but not my favourite. It's a coconut milk sauce that I found too sweet. My calamari was delicious - the tenticles smokey and crispy with the tubes soft and succulent, would definitely order that again!

A piece of Maputo in Ballito,is a must go place in north coast.Great food, local Mozambique theme ambience and a boat for kids to play. The Inhouse sauce is so special I have been sending to my sister in Middle East couple of bottles frequently from the time she n her husband tasted it here.If you are trying something spicy or mild, the taste is unique.my kids favorite..prawns biliene. The crew is well trained and the service is excellent
Dianne Williams
Always busy, great Mozam vibe and staff are very welcoming. I often ordered take-away, tonight decided to stay. A little Trinchado & Chips & Chinen later I couldn't be a happier girl. Make a booking in season!
Angela Love
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at this restaurant. The starter mussels were excellent. For the main we had Peri Peri Chicken and Prawns and they were also really good. Service a bit slow but who cares when you are on holiday!
Craig Shalekoff
For the best peri peri chicken and calamari look no further the mozambik. The truly rustic beach feel belays the fact that you are in a shopping centre and the Kingsley Holgate effects add ambience
Cleo
Loved the ambiance and busy vibe. Big restaurant/ the lemon and herb chicken dish was superb- soft and tasty. Good service experience. Best chicken dish I've had in a long time
Darryl W
Good food served at this Portugese/LM style casual restaurant - all 3 of us enjoyed our mains thoroughly - espatada, lemon & herb baby chicken and prego roll were all superb - tasted like authentic LM style food.. Service was sharp. My only reservation - sat outside - was cold, not enough gas heaters & it seemed like a a<br/>Signboard display competition with every local vendor's advert surrounding us.didn't make for great food vibe. Next time I'll sit inside.
Stephanie Kelly
I came here with my family last week and I ordered the grilled calamari main with mash. It was honestly one of the tastiest most delicious meal I have ever eaten. Whatever they put in that sauce is addictive. I wanted to order more mash so I could poor my leftover sauce all over it. The staff are very friendly and instantly make you feel welcome. I love this restaurant. Will be back here soon!
Kirstyvandeventer
Lovely service. Great food. I don't eat any spicy food at all, but there was one option that I could eat that I liked and that was the girls chicken with the girls sauce and it was fantastic! Would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for the people that enjoy a little spice in their life!

We started coming to Mozambik when it was still new to Ballito, back in good old 2005, and even then we were incredibly impressed by the quality of food, the friendly staff and the warm & inviting atmosphere. We came to Ballito three times a year and never went home without a visit to Mozambik. 10 years later, very little has changed... And if anything has, the food has only improved!! When we walked in last night, we were greeted with handshakes, smiles and hugs from the waitstaff who remember us from years ago! As a customer, I felt very special to be recognized so many years later!<br/><br/>There was a time where I ordered nothing other than the chicken prego and chips, which for a little teenage girl is the ultimate dinner, and I remember it being the most delicious prego ever! As my palate matured along with my age, I started branching out and having the Chicken for Girls with the Piri Piri sauce which, as a chilli lover, was absolutely to die for! Last night my sister had the Chicken for Girls with the Girl's Sauce, my dad had the baby chicken and I had the Quarter Chicken & Prawn Combo... In the Piri Piri sauce of course🔥 The silence that settled around our table as we tucked in was a clear indication of the heaven of yumminess we had all entered! I've never had that combo before and I cannot wait to go back and have it again! The chicken was succulent and tasty and for a quarter of a bird, I got a lot of meat on the breast! The prawns were so so juicy and infused with that amazing Piri Piri sauce which is deliciously hot but not hot enough to be overpowering. All of the flavours come together perfectly and the dish achieves the Portuguese authenticity that the restaurant encapsulates. <br/><br/>After putting our knives and forks together, licking 10 fingers drenching a few dozen serviettes in the red sauce that was all over our hands, we were approached by the charismatic owner, Brett. There is no doubt he knows what he is doing and he loves doing it. He so kindly brought us two bottles of Portuguese wine as a gift and when we drink them we will remember our awesome experience being treated so well at one of our favourite places in Ballito! <br/><br/>We could not have spent the last night of our beach getaway any better! Thank you SO much Mozam! I would give you guys 6 stars if I could!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent food and friendly service at Mo-Zam-Bik Ballito. Some of the best chicken livers we have had and the beef prego roll was excellent.

Super tasty, great service. Easy dining and kid friendly. Will be coming back. Taste options on meals is extensive and compliment the relaxed Mozambik style. Do try the baby chicken in Zambeziana sauce.

Lovely place, great service. Their chicken is the reason I keep going back. Love the chilled vibe as well and I've now got my boyfriend hooked as well 👍

Whenever P and I come to Ballito we have to have a meal at Mozambik. Tonight was the night that we just had to go back and have our taste buds tantilised.<br/>Mozambik Ballito is the original Mozambik with a growing franchise developing in Gauteng. We came here a few years ago and they have never let us down. From the food to the vibey venue to the service with a smile.<br/>When we arrived we were met with a warm smile, shown to our table and given complimentary salty peanuts.<br/>Mozambik has a number of delectable dishes. But the starter of choice is the chicken liver and calamari combo with a lemonee piri pri gravy that smacks your taste buds into another dimension. This is one of the main reasons why we come here, this combo that you can have as a starter or a main.. and trust me its worth it.<br/>P and I shared our mains of grilled chicken with side grilled veges and salads. Another successful dish, the chicken was moist, delicious and boy one of the best grilled portuguese piri piri chickens any restaurant could offer...yes its that good. We were full and had a doggy bag for home.. we had the Pemba as a take away desert. The Pemba is an amazing combination of meringues with ice cream and bananas and chocolate sauce that your hips cry when you have mouthfuls of it .. spoon after spoon.. taste sensation after taste sensation. Thank you guys for a tremendous evening.

Friendly staff. Delicious food. And fun cocktails. Extremely cool atmosphere. They have a boat, and three inside sections for dining. Feels like your in Mozam.

The atmosphere, vibe and location was amazing. Love the aesthetic appeal to this place. Service however was not that great, but after speaking to the manager everything was perfect. The food was busting full of flavour and absolutely tasty. Would definitely recommend this place for a chilled night out!

Been here twice this week, food is amazing but the service is slow and inattentive! Thankfully food is worth coming back for! Rissoles and prawn bilene are amazing

This is the original and best Mo-Zam-Bik branch, Love the atmosphere, the chicken is amazing and so are the rissoles. A place I must visit every time I'm in Ballito.

Simple. Mozambik never disappoints. Brett and his team are world class and I have honestly never had a bad meal here. <br/><br/>If you have never been here just go with the trinchado starter and peri-Peri chicken. Once you have that, you'll be hooked. Guaranteed!! Otherwise go for the calamari or rump steak. <br/><br/>If you ever find yourself near a Mozambik (rapidly growing all over SA) make sure you try it. It's that good... <br/><br/>If you don't enjoy it I'll pay for your meal ?

I am a huge fan of Mozambik and have been pleased to see it grow and expand since I first came in 2008. Now in JHB - very cool, but not the same feel. <br/>Good meal the other night but couple of sour points; baby chairs were not great (missing essential straps, waiter's didn't know how to put it together and not clean), had to use our own stroller which was not ideal. <br/>Next thing was the chicken I had was dry. Don't get me wrong, I ate it all because the taste was delicious but when you are a restaurant that prides yourself on Lekker chicken, you make sure that it is soft and juicy right? <br/>Would I go back again?.... Hell yeah!

Authentic Portuguese / Mozam cuisine's, great chilled vibe, good service, great location (close to the beach, no sea view though) . Highly recomend their platters. Def worth a visit if your in Ballito.

The concept of this restaurant is translated perfectly through their deco and food. I would highly recommend any holiday goes to visit this place for an authentic Mozambik experience and a night to remember!

This is a must every time I holiday in Ballito. I recall when it was a tiny place with a few tables n the only one around. It's become commercial and changed since with good food, not as great as it used to be. Service was not up to scratch, Zambeziana sauce remains tasty n is delicious with calamari or chicken. My peri-peri prawns were scrumptiously flavored but didn't quite fall out of it shell like it should. I love the deco, gives it authenticity...the Mozambique beers are refreshing when U've just got off the beach.

This is a spot that I try to visit every time I'm in the area, the Ballito restaurant being the first if I'm not mistaken! Their peri peri sauce is to die for. Their prawns in the Naçional sauce is incredible and the vibe is great on a busy day (be sure to book if it's in December). The chicken livers and calamari is a cracker as a starter (also available as a main). Generally service is good, I can't fault them. I do wish that they could get Morango in for their R&R instead of Sparberry to go with the Tipo Tinto!!

Although im not fond of the decor and tablecloths this is my favorite restaurant in ballito. From cocktails to wonderful dinners this really seems to be the place to be aftera day on the beach. Love everything ive had here! The periperi sauce is amazing and the zambeziana sauce and cabo del gado sauce are both amazing.

While on holiday, we try not to be too serious, so this restaurant was just the thing for a spot of lunch. Very friendly staff and good food in a light-hearted setting on the deck outside. Give it a try.  [This is a copy of a review I posted on TripAdvisor]
