Review Mien's Tea Garden - Arniston

Darryll Thomas
What an absolute gem of a restaurant. Mien's Tea Garden is tucked away in the Kassiesbaai fishing village of Arniston, but don't be fooled by the beautifully simple surroundings. Mien is a most gracious host, and her food is amazing. In fact, if the only reason you come to Arniston is to taste her creamy garlic mussels or her lightly battered calamari, it would be worth the trip. Both those dishes are out of this world.

Do NOT be put off by the rustic surroundings - this is a real treat of a place. Fish so fresh you can taste the sea, beer and soft drinks to quench thirsts, and lovely service from the very genial hostess. A gem of a local business (and a crazy bargain!).

Arranged a big family celebratory lunch at Mien's Tea Garden. It was a memorable occasion. The food was excellent - good home cooking in a relaxed atmosphere. Calamari, fish & burgers for mains, followed by malfa pudding. Mien was friendly and fun - will definetely be back. Highly recommended.

I want to say that this is Arniston’s best kept secret, but I haven’t been anywhere else in Arniston. I want to call it a secret because for everything you get — homey, warm service; deliciously filling food, and more — it’s a wonder how this isn’t flooded with folks, ahead of a line that snakes down the road. Mein is an amazing host, and has used her years in the hospitality industry to craft an unforgettable experience. I’ll definitely be back, like the gentleman that we met who returns to her establishment whenever he’s in the area on holiday.

Unassuming & wholesome hosts. Miens and her husband made I feel right at home. They regaled us with their local knowledge & stories of bygone days. The seafood which we ordered was the best we’ve had in years.Fresh & well prepared. So good in fact we ordered other items on the menu to take home as we were leaving Arniston. We will most certainly be back & will take friends along!
